The “Sylvia Plath Calendar” - 90 years ago today: Otto Emil Plath married Aurelia Frances Schober on Monday, 4 January 1932 at the Ormsby County courthouse in a civil ceremony in Carson City, Nevada. From ‘Rough Magic: A Biography of Sylvia Plath’ (1991) by Paul Alexander: “Drawn closer together by the letters they had exchanged that summer, Otto and Aurelia began dating when Aurelia returned to Boston in September to assume the Brookline High School faculty post she had been offered. Almost immediately, weekend hiking trips, afternoon strolls through the Arnold Arboretum, and nights at the theatre launched the couple into a serious romance. Before long, they openly discussed marriage. Finally, just after Christmas 1931, they left Boston by car and, chaperoned by Aurelia’s mother, drove cross-country to Carson City, Nevada, where on Monday, January 4, 1932, Otto filed for and received a divorce from Lydia Bartz, the woman he had not seen in over a decade. Later that same day, Otto Plath and Aurelia Schober, each of whom swore in writing to be a current resident of Reno, Nevada, were married in a civil ceremony in Carson City, at Ormsby County’s courthouse. Following a honeymoon in Nevada, the Plaths, still accompanied by Aurelia’s mother, drove back to Boston to begin their married life. Aurelia moved into Otto’s apartment, a six-room first-floor rental in a house at 24 Prince Street in Jamaica Plain. Before she could resume her teaching job at Brookline High, Otto insisted that she resign, which she did even though she was a successful teacher and probable future chairman of the German Department. Otto wanted Aurelia to become a full-time housewife, and he wished to start a family as soon as possible. In fact, they would become parents much sooner than even Otto had hoped: only weeks into the marriage Aurelia became pregnant (with Sylvia).” . If you want to learn more about Otto’s and Aurelia’s family histories, I can definitely recommend Alexander’s ‘Rough Magic’, as it provides many details. . . Hello Tumblr!
You can call me Yuuki Redstar. I’m currently 19 years old. I was born in Jamaica and now I reside in New York, New York and I’m also single. I’m a college student at New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, NY on my 2nd year making a living by going to classes and making art. I’ve been drawing for 11 years now and I never get tired of it to where I can one day go into the art industry and show off my skills in animation. I don’t smoke nor drink. Sometimes, I like walking by myself to reflect on my day blocking some negatives and keeping only positive vibes and events I needed to look over and learn from them. I do indeed play a LOOOT of video games such as Smash, DBZ, Fire Emblem etc. I do study a lot and I have fun doing so. Repeating the material over and over may be annoying but, A and B+ Grades are usually the result to this. Welcome!

It Takes Two To Tango 1 (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/story/315181703-it-takes-two-to-tango-1?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_myworks&wp_uname=Amiele_Brett&wp_originator=5BQop0eBYYXMZVnoJ0qYLdVlnhv61zgoaGok%2FMyZQWue%2FxJLE9VSOPMkmsiyDFsZjIiIGNYiEmMl5UTgTrfAIu67DnYfnMqaFZmrREFDbTAdW3pF5N9CovCSb1EFoHZf It Takes Two to Tango is a phrase often used to describe an action that cannot be done by one person only. The story is about a resident doctor Jamaica Claire Sta. Inez comes back to the Philippines after seven years with her daughter, Camila. After being invited by her friend to work at the hospital he was in, she takes that opportunity to finally settle things with Camila's father, Dereck James Sy. When they are already building the family she and Dereck wish for, Jamaica's parents come to the scene and put their relationship to a test. This time around, it is Dereck's turn to prove what she really means to him. It Takes Two To Tango is hopefully a romantic comedy written by Amiele Brett to share the value of family and to entertain in this time of the pandemic.

Help for Raheem
New Post has been published on https://goodnewsjamaica.com/culture/help-for-raheem/
Help for Raheem
RAHEEM Powell’s situation is looking more hopeful after the Jamaica Observer highlighted the 17-year-old’s plight of not having a birth certificate, which kept him from going back to school after he dropped out at Grade 6.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Floyd Green yesterday expressed interest in assisting Powell, through the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA).
In addition to Minister Green, the Registrar General’s Department, Heart Trust/NTA and Observer readers have offered assistance to the struggling teenager.
Last Tuesday, Powell told the Observer that he had informed his mother on numerous occasions that he wanted to go back to school. His mother admitted in an interview that he had expressed her desire for some time now; however, she was unable to fulfil his wish.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
“Yeah, he told me about it and I said, ‘Raheem, I am not working enough money to get the birth certificate; as soon as I get the money I will try to sort out the birth certificate’,” Douglas admitted.
“I want him to go back to school,” she said. “This make mi feel like I am a careless mother, like mi don’t care. But mi care about him still. Dem seh a late entry (late registration application) I have to look ’bout,” she said.
Yesterday, the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) contacted the Observer and pledged to assist Powell, who resides at Watson Grove in Gregory Park.
“We will be assisting Raheem; we have started the process — the late registration — and he will not have to pay. Where we have started is with the hospital where he would have been born and then we will take it from there,” RGD Marketing and Planning Manager Nicole White said yesterday.
Meanwhile, Sandra Bodden-Reid, head of customer care at the Heart Trust/NTA said the agency is also ready to assist the teenager. “We have made the relevant contact in our organisation and they are very enthusiastic about being a part of the solution,” she said.
Bodden explained that the agency would, however, have to conduct a diagnostic assessment to determine Powell’s reading and comprehension levels. Based on the assessment, she added, he would be placed in an appropriate programme he said he however could not go straight into the skill area of electronics. The youngster now assists electronic technician Andrew Tomlinson to repair fans and other electrical items at his workshop in Gregory Park, St Catherine.
“If he needs basic remedial work we will do that first,” Bodden-Reid said.
Observer reader Yvonne Patterson, who said she was moved by the article, said she wanted to help. “It really hit me hard,” Patterson said when she contacted the newspaper yesterday evening.
Patterson said she contacted the RGD immediately after reading the article, inquiring the cost for late registration.
“I said to myself that I was not going to let it pass and would ask three other persons to contribute and go with his mother and get him registered,” she said.
“It is nothing to look down on. The fact that he wants to learn now, we should assist him,” she added.
When the Observer told her that the RGD had already contacted the Observer to assist, she said, “Praise the Lord.”
Yesterday, Powell’s grateful mother Ann-Marie Douglas thanked the agencies and the people who have offered assistance. “I’m glad for the help for him,” she said.

Esther Niles’ Alisha is an attempt to name a nameless woman. To give an identity to an undocumented character lost in the annals of history. The film “Waiting for Myself to Appear”, currently showing at the re-baptised #MuseumoftheHome (formerly known as the Geffrye Museum. More on that later) combines different strands in order to position a forgotten wet nurse centre stage. From notions of identity to the concept of home, in just over twenty minutes, writer and director Michael McMillan weaves all these loose ideas together cleverly. The screening couldn’t be more timely. As the Coulston Four were acquitted last month, the debate on controversial statues across Britain rages on. The Museum of the Home has been no stranger to this soul-searching national discussion. It was only summer last year when a peaceful protest was staged on its grounds. It followed the museum’s trustees’ decision not to take down the statue of slave trader and one-time mayor of London Robert Geffrye. This is why Niles’ Alisha is so important. In the short movie Alisha is a Hackney resident who also happens to work at the museum. One day she finds out that, as a baby, the Geffrye alsmhouse chaplain’s wife was accompanied by a wet nurse from Jamaica to Britain in the 1800s. Nothing is ever recorded of the black nurse, so Alisha takes it upon herself to give this black woman a voice and name: Mary Anne. For me this is what the current statue reassessment is about: to contextualise what happened, when it happened, how it happened and why it happened. It’s not about pulling down all statues in the UK. It is mainly about bringing nuance to what so far has been a black and white issue (no pun intended). As a society, we show maturity when we’re ready to listen and compromise. For a long time the story of Britain’s role in the slave trade has been conveniently reduced to Wilberforce’s abolitionist stance. By contrast, the voices of the many Mary Annes, nameless and anonymous, were silenced. “Waiting for Myself to Appear” is a much welcome attempt to redress the balance. #Cuban #Immigrant #Londoner https://uk.bookshop.org/a/6886/9781528994293 #photography #London #visitlondon (at Museum of the Home) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaDAY0iMlEg/?utm_medium=tumblr

Day 41 Ep. 312 The Bakra: Young Ian is in Jamaica with his captives. The treasure is handed to a man who tells the crew to keep Ian, as the Bakra likes young boys. He’s taken to see the Bakra & Geillis Duncan’s foot pops out of a bloody pool. She gives Ian a truth serum. He tells her that maybe his uncle took the jewel b/c he’s the only one who knew where the treasure was. Ian tells her that his uncle James Fraser of Broch Tuarach & he will come for him. Geillis tells Ian that she has her way w/ Virgins to which Ian replies he is not. “Good, you’ll know what to do then.” Jamie & Claire arrive in Jamaica. There is a grand ball at the new Governor’s residence. They find out the Governor bought the slaves from the Bruja. Claire attacks a man selling a slave. Jamie buys him & names him Temeraire. They ask for his help to find his nephew & he agrees. Geillis needs to find the missing stone to learn the prophecy of the Barhan Seer, which will tell when a Scottish King will rise. The Frasers arrive at the ball & wait in line to greet the Governor. We are treated to some steamy eye bangin’! Jamie approaches the Gov., shocked that it is Lord John Grey. They talk in private & Jamie asks about Willie. He’s well and still rides. Jamie says he’s missed him & LJG says Willie still remembers him. Jamie tells LJG about Ian being kidnapped & notices the sapphire that he gave him. Willoughby approaches Margarete & tells her that her brother mistreats her. Margaret tells him he is a rare soul. LJG approaches Claire & says it is nice to finally meet the love that was Jamie’s every heartbeat. Claire notices Geillis and excuses herself to find her. We learn that after the baby was born Dougal came to fetch him & helped her escape. She oddly says he her kid was as warm as balls. Geillis notices the gemstone on LJG & demands Margaret do a reading on him & then pressures the Governor to do so. The prophesy states that she needs a 200 year old baby to kill. Capt. Leonard arrives & they rush out the back. Temeraire learns that the slaves have seen Ian. They rush to Rose Hall, free Temeraine, & Jamie is captured by Capt. Leonard. Incredibly honoured to be spending time with the @alphamusicja students today on this special webinar. As a proud Jamaican, it brings me such great joy to see the continued culture of music and audio being taught, supported, and celebrated in my homeland. 🇯🇲 Posted @withregram • @alphamusicja The Alpha School of Music is grateful to Greg ‘Stryke’ Chin who will lead a master class with students tomorrow. "Deconstructing The Song With Pro Tools" - presented by @stryke303 Avid Audio Specialist and artist/producer/DJ Greg ‘Stryke’ Chin will lead students through a deconstruction of one of his signature music releases while demonstrating recording tips and editing tricks made possible by Pro Tools software. This will be an opportunity to explore the power of Pro Tools and learn how to integrate the tools within your own creative, audio capture and mixing process from a Pro Tools expert! Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Greg Chin has had a passion for music since birth. Stryke began his music career at an early age, playing classical piano at the age of four. Moving to Miami, Florida (where he still resides) at age ten, and becoming heavily involved in early electronic alternative scene. His love for Beethoven and Chopin were quickly joined by his new love for groups such as Depeche Mode and New Order (not to mention an unhealthy addiction to video games, which he still has to this very day). Buying his first synthesizer at age 12, Stryke quickly learned the ways of additive synthesis and began writing electronic songs discovering house and techno from a mix tape given to him by his cousin, a DJ in New York. He was hooked. Today Greg states, "Both production and DJing have really become one in the same for me. I really can't separate the two. The words musician, artist, and DJ, all have the same importance to me." He boasts a lengthy discography on some of dance music’s most iconic labels such as Nervous, MURK, Tronic, Ovum, and many others. He has been a member of the Avid family since 2006 and is proud to be its Audio Evangelist! https://www.instagram.com/p/CVSxLAjrgtW/?utm_medium=tumblr

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has warned that unvaccinated persons should not expect the Government to prioritise bed spaces for them at hospitals in the future, should they contract COVID-19. He also stressed that once the island reaches an adequate level of COVID-19 vaccination, personal "responsibility" will be key once the virus prevention protocols are relaxed. "Once it reach to that level (of vaccination), we can open up back and return to some level of normalcy, and then the burden shifts to the individual," said Holness while on a vaccination tour in St Mary on Thursday. "At that time, if yuh nuh want tek the vaccine, ah your business, but don't expect the Government to take a bed away from somebody who needs to do surgery, to put that bed into COVID care," he stated. "At that time, it is your decision and your responsibility. There is no freedom without responsibility, so those people who preach free choice must understand that they are not free of responsibility," he added. Holness told residents of the north eastern parish that vaccinations presented the best opportunity for Jamaica to move out of the COVID-19 pandemic. "At some point in time we have to transition out of this pandemic, and for us to be able to do that... we need to get the vaccination up to a level where we protect (the) vulnerable in the society," he elaborated. Wassup! IS ANYONE STILL ON HERE?
Regardless if anyone still uses Tumblr religiously I am back and I am ready to stay committed to writing entries here just in case some next shit ever happens.
In celebration of SUMMER 2K18 I decided that this will be the main platform in which i will be documenting majority of my journey. I will be posting on my Instagram occasionally but in all honesty I truly decided to begin using my Tumblr again so that i can have the freedom to express myself in many more ways that IG was restricting me from.
Tomorrow morning I will be catching my flight to Kingston, Jamaica. I will be leaving the country for the first time without a close relative accompanying me and I don’t have family out there either. I will be leaving with my beloved best friend and residing at his family’s home. My purpose for this trip is to just experience. Gain knowledge on agriculture and culture along with learning new knowledge throughout the journey.
6 weeks away from my comfort of family, friends and my pets. oh yeah and the lit beach bon fire parties..
in exchange for
6 weeks of change. 6 weeks of learning to adapt to new surroundings. 6 weeks for new people. 6 weeks of experiences I worked hard to have. 6 weeks of Mind Expansion.
I am so ready for this trip! I kid you not I truly manifested this trip into reality when I told myself at the beginning of the year that I will by any means necessary travel this year and add another stamp to my Passport. I will love my best life especially since I’m just 21.
Crazy to think I truly proved myself! I am not fond of working a 9-5 or a 5 day a week job at some place that is not fulfilling my life purpose. When i tell you i grind for this trip, i truly fucking mean i grind. I didn't have to do anything crazy either. I mean besides actually believe in my self... I didn't even have to sell art work in the subway this time. I attracted the funding for my trip by simply doing the things i always loved to do and especially the things i already had well experience in that have proven success in the past. Whether I was selling my Vegan Empanadas that I spent time putting love and patience into, curating and hosting my own backyard events with my best friend, creating beautiful paintings I vended at events or customs for amazing clients that truly support and admire my work. I even picked up a Saturday ONLY position at a small coffee shop off Wall Street for 8 hrs of my life a week and I actually fuck with it! Only because I work with 2 people max. and I get to drink a fresh espresso shot in the a.m and learn cool latte art, most importantly practice skills in which will assist me when I have my own business.
What I did differently this time around was simple. I made more with less and attracted my money to me. I worked with it rather than against it. I learned a lot of money management skills from fellow humans that I know have their shit together financially and from a few books my lovely beautiful friends allowed me to borrow.
The Business of the 21st Century by Robert T. Kiosyaki
&
The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason
Check those books out if you're eager to learn some new things.
Yo anything can happen if you put your mind to it. Educate yourself and know yourself!
Anyways enough about me forcing people to pick up some damn books. Earlier today I was viewing the images from my CUBA 2K17 trip in June. I was noticing how sexy my 2 week tanned looked on my skin and already excited for the 6 weeks of fun and sun. My experience in Cuba last year will defiantly be different than Jamaica this year, even with the islands only being 237 miles apart. I can already imagine how the juicy mangoes of Jamaica will taste and the crystal blue waters of the island will flow. I envision the mountain skyline all around me as the sun rises and the birds hover by.
I’m getting sleepy and have to catch my flight in the a.m.
Stay Tuned for the beginning of my journey! Day 1 of 6 weeks in the island of Jamaica begins as soon as the Sun rises in New York and I hop on that Kingston bound Flight from JFK.

Jamaica’s First Agent Banking Facility Opens at Boulevard Supercentre
New Post has been published on https://goodnewsjamaica.com/business/jamaicas-first-agent-banking-facility-opens-at-boulevard-supercentre/
Jamaica’s First Agent Banking Facility Opens at Boulevard Supercentre
Finance and the Public Service Minister, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, on Thursday (September 6), officially opened Jamaica’s first agent banking facility, which is operated by GraceKennedy (GK) Group subsidiary – First Global Bank (FGB) at the Boulevard Supercentre, Washington Boulevard, St. Andrew.
Finance and the Public Service Minister, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke (left), shares a joke with GraceKennedy (GK) Group Chief Executive Officer, Senator Don Wehby, during Thursday’s (September 6) opening of Jamaica’s first agent banking facility by First Global Bank (FGB) at the Boulevard Supercentre, Washington Boulevard, St. Andrew. FGB is a GK subsidiary.
The launch is consistent with the Government’s Financial Inclusion Strategy (FIS), aimed at expanding access by persons and businesses to affordable and convenient financial products and services.
Dr. Clarke said that the facility will serve residents and other stakeholders in the communities of Pembroke Hall, Duhaney Park, Maverley, Hughenden, Patrick City and Washington Gardens, particularly First Global clients who normally have to go to Ligaunea, Cross Roads or downtown Kingston to conduct business.
“With agent banking now opened here (at the Boulevard Supercentre)… this will allow for much broader coverage and improved access for customers and will help us to diversify the base of persons who have access. Agent banking is a win-win for (all) the parties involved,” the Minister contended.
Dr. Clarke noted that the Government is keen on seeing the expansion of agent banking, which is deemed pivotal to Jamaica’s growth and development.
“I want to assure the entire financial sector of the Government’s determination to continue to support the market’s development that can be the foundation for growth… and will continue to ensure that the financial sector operates efficiently and effectively, and is supported by a robust and responsive regulatory framework,’ he added.
Agency banking is where a commercial bank appoints a third party (agent) to transact business on its behalf, such as deposits and withdrawals, payment of bills and loan repayments, electronic transfer of funds, among other things.
FGB, which acquired the island’s first agent banking licence earlier this year, has appointed Stapharm Services Limited as its representative.
Stapharm, which is headed by the father-daughter team of Patrick and Tanya Brissett, operates GraceKennedy’s flagship Bill Express/Western Union/FX Trader services outlet at the Boulevard Supercentre.
GraceKennedy Group Chief Executive Officer, Senator Don Wehby, said that agent banking is another GK Group innovation and is consistent with the company’s mandate of actively participating in and supporting the Government’s financial inclusion thrust.
He pointed out that financial inclusion is about providing the appropriate products and services to a wider cross section of Jamaican consumers and businesses, “to facilitate their right to financial stability, growth and protection”.
He noted that with 80 per cent of adult Jamaicans having limited access to low-cost, efficient and user-friendly financial services, 34 per cent being unbanked; 30 per cent saving through regulated financial institutions; and only 11 per cent of individuals and 27 per cent of micro, small and medium enterprises having access to formal credit, agent banking will be a game changer “if we get [it] right”.
Senator Wehby said GK and FGB would be looking to expand the number of agent banking locations to over 30 by the end of 2019, adding that “[by] 2022… we want at least 50 per cent of the GraceKennedy Western Union locations to be offering agent banking”.
For his part, operator of Stapharm Services Limited, Patrick Brissett, welcomed the partnership with FGB to deliver a wide range of products and services to clients, and commended the dedication of staff attached to the Boulevard Supercentre outlet.
Maverley resident, and FGB client, Desayo Smith, welcomed the opening of the agent banking outlet.
He said that he previously had to travel to FGB’s Liguanea or Cross Roads branches to transact business.
“When I saw the [agent banking] sign… I was so excited… [because] it’s [now] really convenient for me. I’m going to spread the word about this new facility, because I [know] a lot of people who live in the area who have FGB accounts and who can also benefit from this new location,’ he told JIS News.
Another customer, Ann-Marie James, also welcomed the new outlet, which she said now affords her the convenience of making lodgements to her savings account, among other transactions.
Agent banking was introduced under the Banking Services Act 2014, and the accompanying Regulations in 2016.
