you tried to go to as many games as you could, but you had a job so making it to every game was impossible. but, when you could make it to games, mat made sure to plan ahead and make sure you were gonna have a good time.

"you have a ride, right?" mat asked from the bathroom where he was still getting read.

"yes, i have a ride." you sighed. a moment of silence enveloped you and you knew something was wrong, "you okay? you need help with anything?" you asked.

"...yes." he hesitated.

"you can't tie your tie, can you?" you smiled.

"no." you could see the pout on his face as you made your way into the bathroom.

"ooh." you teased, "mathew barzal, who let you be this cute today?" you teased, enjoying the shy smile on his face.

"stop please. just help." he handed you the tie he wanted to wear, but you shook your head, "what?"

"mat, i love you, but your sense of style is awful." you winced, recalling every bad fashion choice you had seen him make. you set the tie on the counter and grabbed a different one, one that better matched the suit he was wearing, and began tying it.

"i should.be offended." the smile on his face told you he wasn't.

"i'm saving you from ending up on people's worst dressed." you shrugged.

he rolled his eyes, "so, before i go, can i see what you're gonna wear tonight?" it was no secret that you loved dressing up for games. it was fun and you liked doing it. you usually had little pieces with his name, number, or team colors. something to show your support, and mat loved it.

"nope." you shook your head.

"what? why not?"

"that ruins the surprise," you told him.

"you're gonna make me wait till after the game to see." he pouted.

"i don't know. maybe i'll be there at warmups." you shrugged, smiling when he perked up, "i think syd's bringing win, so maybe i'll go down with them." she was your ride, so going down to the ice for warmups made sense.

"okay, well, i guess i might see you during warmups." he kissed your forehead.

"maybe." you shrugged, wrapping your arms around his waist, "try not to fall, okay?" he rolled his eyes.

"i don't do it on purpose." he insisted.

you smiled, "score goals." you told him, leaning up and giving him a quick peck.

"for you, always." he hummed.

after he left, you got ready as quickly as you could and before you knew it, sydney martin was pulling up outside your building, "y/n yl/n, you always put the rest of us to shame."

"oh, stop it." you smiled bashfully.

"i'm serious. how you do it astounds me." she ran her finger over the sleeve of your jacket, "doesn't y/n look pretty, win?" you looked to the backseat where winnie was sitting, clutching a stuffed animal.

"pretty." she smiled.

"thank you, miss win." you winked before getting into the passenger side.

true to your word, you followed sydney down to the ice for warmups and helped keep winnie entertained. you could tell sydney was a little tired, so you did your best to keep her attention.

when the boys came out, you couldn't help but smile when mat tossed a couple of pucks over the ice to a few kids. winnie's eyes were glued to the ice as she watched all the guys skate around.

matt skated over, making his daughter laugh, blowing her kisses and even tossing her a puck, which she clutched to her chest along with her stuffed animal.

when your mat finally skated over, sydney took her daughter back so you and mat could have a moment. he smiled, taking notice of your jacket. he spun his finger, and you gave him a little twirl so he could see your jacket.

he gave a thumbs up and a nod, which made you laugh. he tossed a puck over and nodded to a kid behind you, whose eyes were glued. on mat, watching him mesmerized.

you nodded and waved. as he skated backward, he waved and winked. you rolled your eyes before looking at the puck. you smiled when you noticed that mat had signed it.

you turned around to the kid, who looked at you, probably after having seen mat point at him. you laughed before you handed it to him, "this is from barzy." you told him, "have fun tonight."

you turned back to sydney, who had her phone out and was probably recording and taking pictures of the whole thing, "you guys are so cute." she hugged you, "now come on, let's get some drinks." you smiled when winnie raised her arms in your direction, a signal that she wanted to be picked up.

after the game, and an ot goal scored by mat, you waited with sydney and the other girls in the tunnel. you were sitting with sydney, and the entire game, winnie was in your lap. somehow she had gravitated from her seat into your lap, but you didn't mind.

"look, win, there's your dad." you pointed when you saw matt walk out. she gave him a wave, but yawned and laid her head on your shoulder, "i'm tired, too." you patted her back, making the martin's smile.

you waved when you saw mat walk out. he made his way over to you and hugged you, pressing a kiss to your cheek, "i'm proud of you. overtime goal!" you cheered quietly, not wanting to disturb winnie too much.

"i know. all for you." he smiled into your hair before pressing a kiss to the top of your head, "you ready to go?" you hummed.

"wait, wait, before you guys go." sydney stopped you, pulling out hr phone, "can we wait a second? i wanna take a picture of you right now." she begged.

"fine." mat rolled his eyes playfully, but posed for the picture nonetheless. after the picture was taken, you were going to hand winnie off to her parents, but she clung to you.

"come on, we gotta go home, winnie." sydney sighed, flashing. youan apologetic smile.

"how about this? i'll carry you in the car, but after that, i gotta go." you offered, and she nodded, "all right, let's go." you switched arms and started heading int he direction of sydney's car.

mat walked by your side, holding your hand and talking to you about whatever. unbeknownst to you, sydney, who was trailing behind you and mat, was snapping pictures.

you set winnie in her car seat and waved, "bye, winnie girl." you blew her a kiss and she blew you one back, which you accepted and held close to your chest, which made her laugh.

you walked back to mat's car, "that felt very domestic." he told you.

"keep dreaming, barzal. let's stick to babysitting."

"i know, i know." he raised his hands in surrender.

as you got waited for mat to get into bed later that night, you saw sydney's tag and checked out the instagram story. it was a photo she had taken, without your knowledge, of you and mat walking towards the parking garage, hand-in-hand, winnie in your arms, her head on your shoulder with the caption 'her favorite person ever ❤️ @/yourusername'

mat hopped into bed next to you and saw the post, "you're right. we do look domestic." you smiled.

"let's stick to babysitting." he joked.

I want to put a little into here on what I’m gonna be posting on here or what I’m about i guess??? I recently got really into asoif universe and the history lol I’ve always loved game of thrones but never got deeper than the show until recently! Dany has always been my best girl now I love every Targaryen woman to ever live bc they just do no wrong not sorry 😌 I think I will be posting my face claims for some of them on here as well maybe edits at some point if I get around to it! Also like my bio says I’m team black BUT I do understand some points of certain greens even if I don’t support their claim or agree I can understand from THEIR perspective lol Helaena & her children are the only one who do no wrong soooo…. But yeah that’s about all I can think of atm 😭

Akutagawa Ryuunosuke:

i love akutagawa ryuunosuke my angst child but i’m just like ‘hmmmmmmm’ when it comes to what his course would probably be

after extensive research aka reading his character page on wiki i feel like maybe he’d be a history major because,,,, he likes antiques?

well his clothes do seem very dark academia-esque and i can see him liking something as cool as history

akutagawa’s probably into something like war history but he’s not weird about it he just finds it really cool how different strategies work or analyzing what exactly makes the winners win

he absolutely HATES the fact that he keeps having to read the Iliad for class

he’s also that classmate who INTENSIVELY DEFENDS achilles for being a bit of a little bitch (but he fully agrees that patroclus and achilles were gay af ok this was random moving on)

akutagawa has practically no social life. he doesn’t go to parties, he doesn’t talk to his roommate, he doesn’t even like to eat in the dining hall

BUT he absolutely loves being in debate team because WINNING

he’s such a nightmare to work with though but he just delivers so well when it’s time for him to speak. like, if he’s on a negative and it’s time to hash out rebuttals, just prepare to get MURDERED

other debaters: “esteemed scholars and adjudicators...”

akutagawa: “you, sir, have no idea how wrong you are.”

that is until dazai decided to randomly show up at a debate tournament all ‘la di da da’ like and completely crushed akutagawa along with his ego

from then on he started stalking dazai and just SOMEHOW managed to end up in his circle of friends

even though he’s antisocial in real life, akutagawa 100% runs a dark academia aesthetic blog on tumblr i’m right and i don’t accept criticism

it’s actually really good he has a ton of followers and even does requests for moodboards if someone asks nicely

atsushi was the one who actually found out about it but he’s nice so he didn’t tell akutagawa about it

kunikida probably follows that blog

Chuuya Nakahara:

if this part sounds like i’m just thirsting for chuuya then you’re absolutely right i love wine man

don’t get mad at me but i can ABSOLUTELY SEE HIM MAJORING IN FASHION DESIGN I MEAN LOOK AT HIM

he’s just always had such a good eye for fashion and he’s veryyy meticulous when it comes to snipping and putting together clothes

chuuya also carries a sketchbook full of designs and his drawings look amazing and he isn’t afraid to just show them off

that said he doesn’t dress like a tired uni student at all, like he just always looks so on-point and unbothered by his five million deadlines

dazai: chuuya, i said this was a CASUAL LUNCH

chuuya, dressed in what looks like silk pajamas: THIS IS CASUAL

tbh if he just wore a white t-shirt and jeans i would die maybe he’s actually saving us from this ordeal

he has so much talent though as a designer he’s probably had several internships with design companies all throughout his years at uni

i feel like chuuya’s also really active in extracurriculars and has been in leadership positions in some of them (he probably runs the student org for fashion design)

chuuya in a student band though oh my gosh i can’t breathe i can’t breathe him as a VOCALIST?? and wearing torn jeans and eyeliner and that same hat in concerts ican’t brEATHE

okay in all honesty he would thrive being in a band chuuya loves the attention and the creativity of being able to design their whole look and write songs

tbh i don’t know if he’d have a roommate chuuya’s probably the type who’d rather have one of those single rooms or just rent a flat for him to stay in even after graduation

because his social life is super vibrant, he does have a lot of friends and he does make an effort to get to know all of them individually 

but he’s more open around those who he’s been friends with for a really long time and as much as he’d like to say dazai isn’t one of them, he is

also chuuya is definitely the type to party hard during the weekends and has more than once crashed in someone’s house after drinking too much (dazai drew on his face on more than one occasion)

Oda Sakunosuke:

i love this man SO MUCH you guys have no idea i would literally die for him

100% this guy majors in creative writing because this is supported by FACTS and not just me wanting to be coursemates with him in this fictional world

super serious and diligent with his work especially since he’s passionate about writing. he loves to read in his spare time and is such a fan of classic novels about social realism or philosophy

oda spends 99% of his time in second-hand bookshops that the owner probably knows him by name at this point

he’s super old school when it comes to writing though, like he still keeps and writes in a notebook before typing it up on a laptop and no matter how many times dazai tells him its impractical, oda just keeps doing it

lmao whenever workshops come around he’s super nice with his critique. i bet a lot of his fellow classmates like sending their writing drafts to him

he draws smiley faces and always adds ‘nice work’ on people’s drafts omg i love odasaku

he’s such an old soul, he probably doesn’t do a whole lot of partying but he likes more quiet, private social events like drinking with close friends or just hanging out and talking at other people’s houses

he and dazai probably met when dazai decided to take an intro to creative writing class and wrote a long poem about double suicide on his first day that kind of put off everyone in the class from wanting to sit with him

odasaku was the only one who wasn’t exactly bothered but he did give dazai some comments to help him with his poetry and dazai instantly wanted to be his friend

in terms of extracurricular life, i can definitely see odasaku joining a writing organization and even the campus newspaper. he does find joy in interviewing students for newspaper articles

he’s also pretty into photography and uses a really old, second-hand camera that he bought at an antique store and fixed himself. at one point he won a prize in a contest

odasaku would be the best roommate. he’s super sensitive to when you have a bad day and will invite you to sit on his bed and hug his pillow and talk about your problems

scratch that, everyone talks to odasaku about their problems and now your room is like a therapist’s office

Edgar Allan Poe:

ANOTHER CREATIVE WRITING BUDDY AHHH I WOULD LOVE TO BE BESTIES WITH HIM AHHH

well actually i feel like since he’s super ambitious and already has a fixed idea on the stuff he likes to write, he’d probably double major in something like forensic science because he’d use it to write his mystery novels

omg that’s where he meets ranpo and now pretty much every main character poe writes is slightly based on on ranpo

it’s a problem. his professor brings it up more than once during his classes but it’s poe’s Thing now

he also has such an unending passion for gothic literature and he wears those white, long-sleeved blouses and waistcoats on a REGULAR BASIS

chuuya probably saw him once and was like ‘hmm, i could pull that off’

poe’s daily route is just going to the library and to class and then go home and that’s about it

he ended up working as a student assistant at the library because he’s just super familiar with the book collections and it’s a job that’s peaceful and quiet 

more than once though, he’d just be really in-deep with his writing to the point that he doesn’t even notice that the library has closed or that he hasn’t eaten the entire day

that’s alright though because ranpo always passes by the library at night to check on his friend and (reluctantly) give him some snacks

also since poe’s pretty much a recluse, he doesn’t go to any social event UNLESS it’s a halloween-themed one

he loves going all out with his costumes because he’s a Drama Queen like that but the problem is he keeps dressing up as gothic novel characters and nobody gets it

dazai, trying to guess his costume: umm,, Two-Face from Batman?

poe: IT’S DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE

there was this one time when poe took it upon himself to host the halloween party and it was EPIC

he basically designed it as a murder mystery night wherein everyone who came pretended to be guests at a house and then a murder happened

the only problem was that ranpo was conspiring with poe and it was pretty much unfair

except for the fact that ranpo was frustrated at how bad everyone was at deducing that he ended up solving the mystery for them

Fyodor Dostoevsky:

one of my favorite scenes of him in s3 was of fyodor playing the cello because god damn that is beautiful and therefore i am hc-ing him as a music major and you can’t tell me otherwise

fyodor is an absolute music genius and he was definitely scouted by the university’s music program and then he was granted a scholarship (because in this ideal university, the arts are valued)

he purposely decided to go to a university rather than a music conservatory because he’s also interested in learning a bunch of other things

aside from his music classes, he ventures into comparative literature and philosophy, even a bit of computer science at some point

people always assume that since he’s a music major he probably wouldn’t do well in other subjects but SURPRISE BITCH

anyway, fyodor’s a genius because god clearly has favorites

aside from attending class, he’s even part of an official orchestra and has even landed a few solos 

that said, he’s quite busy and very preoccupied in his own work to actually have a social life either

you’ll often find him rehearsing by himself in an empty classroom for hours and hours on end (someone pls bring him food he’s also the type to forget to eat or even drink water)

if you are able to catch him perform at an orchestra or just practice by himself, it’s quite a mesmerizing sight. his eyes are often closed so he could focus on the sound alone and his fingers move so elegantly along the neck of the cello

(sorry i just love people who play any form of stringed instrument)

fyodor also takes such good care of his cello. also he would probably kill you on the spot if you touched his bow

he has a fairly small group of friends and they like playing chess together (even though fyodor is better than all of them) and just talk about um,, idk philosophy and stuff (whatever it is smart people do idk i’m not one of them)

i have a feeling he actually follows akutagawa’s dark academia blog and loves his content, even to the point of requesting ‘cello player moodboards’

also because he’s a cello player he needs to take care of his fingers so he wears gloves a lot (idk why i find this hot)

been better, been worse. right now leaning to worse and about ready for them to spring back the other way, ya feel?

4. what was it that first inspired you to write? what inspires you today?

needed an escape and figured i wanted to make my own, which led me to the rpc here.   now, its the friends i get to write with here and their fantastic muses. 

5. if you had to put together a team of 5 fictional characters plus yourself to save the world, who would you choose and why?

andy from the old guard bc she’s kickbutt and immortal, amos burton from the expanse bc scary murder teddy bear,  sherlock from the  bbc version bc as much as i’d wanna strangle him he smart as hell, nook from animal crossing so we have someone with us we wont feel bad about sacrificing if need be, and maybe klaus from umbrella academy bc.... first of all i love him and secondly. there is no secondly. thats it.  

6. what is your favorite fictional trope? least favorite?

hurt / comfort, people learning how to cope with their past with the help of others.       ....... kinda dark, but the whole  ‘ redemption for abusers ‘   thing, like the   ‘ forgiveness helps you heal ‘. i hate that. makes my blood boil every time. 

7. what unpopular opinion do you have toward the rpc or tumblr?

i feel like callout culture’s really harmful and unnecessary. if you have an issue with someone, block and move on. no one’s forcing you to interact with them. 

8. if you could spend one day with your main muse (or your muse of choice), what would that be like?

listen. if i spent a day with mahia, it would literally be comprised of me getting as much food into her as i can, stocking her up with supplies, showering her with love and comfort and support.... 

9. if you found yourself in one fictional universe of your choosing, which would it be and why?

sub.nautica.    i know its terrifying, but honestly i love the ocean and the chance to explore an alien world just me, myself, and my cuddlefish??  yes pls.

idk. u know me, im not one to hold back when it comes to making muses...

Ok so…your famous theory that the pride play better when Ash is not in goal … explain last nights game then .. they played Gotham not that long ago and won no goals conceived and last night against the same team with Ash in goal again they played shit and lost .. so pls pls explain that with your Erin in goal better pride theory … cause your theory makes no sense. No Offenes tho.

I mean the Gotham win wasn't a whole team effort tbh. They still didn't play well that game even though they won they just got lucky that Gotham didn't have its full fledged attacking power like they did tonight. And my theory isn't about wins or losses its about how they play in general. In general, aside from those weird ass subs last night, the Pride don't play with the same fire or kick as they do with another keeper in net, or if they do find their fire, it's in the dying minutes of the game and it means nothing. Not only that, they can't manage to score more than 2 goals with Ash when they've had two games where they have scored 3 goals with Erin (teams that, when played with Ash, again only resulted in one goal both games - not to mention it was a draw against Louisville and Ash had to be the one to make the assist).

Idk what the real problem is aside from the inconsistency of the midfield and the offense. I don't get why they suddenly get how to play soccer when Ash isn't in net. And I'll bold it here, it is a really small sample size because Erin has only played a handful of games. I just don't get why the same spark isn't there with a keeper as good as Ash. The defense wasn't the biggest problem last night, but they were and have been steadily been a problem. A lot of the wins Orlando has had or even some of the draws, haven't been because of a stellar defense but because of Ash holding down the goal and Syd holding down the entire field. For example, the CC game against Washington wasn't a win for the Pride even though it ended 1-0. The defense was awful that game and so was the midfield. It was thanks to Ash and her 10 saves and Syd and her goal that we won that game. It was not a stellar performance by the entire team, for real. With Erin, the entire team comes to play and it looks like we have ten field players playing.

Let me be clear: this is not about Erin being better than Ash. On paper Erin has more experience, but the Pride is Ash's baby and she does a phenomenal job and if she has two bad nights I don't blame her when she's carried this team on her back through this season. Erin is amazing at her supporting role that she plays and I'm sure Ash values having someone like her in her corner. Ash should always get the start but her team is the one that needs to step up for her.

I don't take offense, don't worry. It's an unpopular and rather weird theory. But it's the theory I have and the reason why I believe in it is because whenever this team plays with Ash the energy shifts. Idk if it's because of that thing one anon said, where Ash's mood or energy sets the tone and if she's off the rest of the teams off (but that can't explain the CC Washington game or when we played NCC and lost 2-0 and she still had a fantastic night at home - both these games she was on fire but her team was nowhere to be found to help out).

I think the fundamental problem lies with the inconsistency in how the Pride play overall, regardless of who's in net. It might be completely circumstantial that Ash's presence has any effect on how they play, thus I may be totally wrong, but that's okay. I still believe in my theory, but the only way to test it further is throw Erin or Britt in net and there's no way to do that now since we have 3 crucial games to win and we can't be making changes to GKs unless for injury. It's an experiment for next season if the Pride are willing to test this absurd theory (which they won't bc I'm a tiny little tumblr blogger in the ass end of nowhere and my opinion or theories don't matter in the grand scheme).

Anyways idk if that makes any sense but to sum it up, the reasons why I believe in my theory that the Pride play differently (not better or worse just differently) when Ash is in net vs any other keeper is: 1) they manage to have dominant wins and play as a team, 2) the whole team energy shifts and passes/distributions/set pieces are more effective, 3) AK leads with authority and the backline is much stronger and stingy, and 4) every game where Ash hasn't played so far has resulted in being a draw or a win for this regular season. Again, it's a super small sample size comparing these 4 games to the 17 that Ash has played in but if you review even our wins, you will see they were not so much dominant Pride performances (excluding Chicago and the first Portland game), but rather getting a goal or two and then sitting back and defending, or getting a last minute goal to draw. It's frustrating to watch because Ash deserves better and her team is so inconsistent that you can hardly tell what you're gonna get each game they do play.

Anyways this was a long one but hope it makes sense and you can definitely disagree and says it makes no sense, but it would be interesting to see why you think the Pride play better with Ash in net with your evidence or reasoning (since I've provided mine). Then maybe we can compare notes and see if there are things maybe I missed that I should've taken account, or even with what I've said here, things you've missed and should've taken account into. @consultingreaders sent me some truly excellent Steve Rogers/Tony Stark recs, and I’m totally hooked. I just…love them so much. It’s making me kind of misty eyed, haha. I love that Tony’s an eccentric inventor genius who drinks too much coffee, talks too fast, and gets incredibly excited about projects (and Steve); and Steve just loves him to pieces and thinks he’s the smartest, funniest dude ever. Ahh. So I’ve barely waded into this fandom (SEND ME ALL THE RECS PLS), but I’m falling over my heels for the way it rocks the our-team-is-a-big-quirkly-cuddly-supportive-family trope and delivers identity porn like woah. This fic in particular is so good. I spent a great deal of time raving to my friends about how good it is. Um. Iron Man is a supervillian who keeps kidnapping Captain America, Captain America is, you know, a super hero who enjoys flirting with Iron Man whilst tied to chairs in about-to-be-exploded warehouses. They’re also undercover as teachers at a high school because this is a teacher AU!!! My new kink is Tony Stark’s friends calling him “Tones;” it’s just adorable, I can’t even. Have I mentioned how adorable people (and Wordsplat in particular) seem to write Tony and Steve? Like I was shook at first. I think the Inception fandom has ruined me (I mean, in the best way) with delicious smut for days. But, like, Tony and Steve seem to spend a lot of time texting each other constantly, cuddling while watching movies, and hanging out with their friends. Oh god my heart.

I wasn’t sure which trope to slot WAR into here, but I’m going with misunderstood because over the course of this YA-novel-fic, Graintaire is misunderstood by a lot of people, most significantly himself and his fake-boyfriend-for-social-justice Enjolras. Like, I don’t even need to ramble, starry-eyed about how amazing this story is, how I’ve already read through the World Ain’t Ready tumblr tag freaking out, how many times I’ve listened to “Shake the Sheets” in the past couple weeks; everyone knows this story is the Best Thing Ever. Ugh, also, the ~2006 high school suburbia era setting was just spot on. Other things that will be amazing forever: the adorable friend group being adorable, Bahorel’s backpack of bouncy balls and mix CDs, R being hella short, the hugging and bedsharing, R’s sparkly purple toenails, Jehan’s shoes, I could go on all day. ok so i’ve been pretty vocal about this on my twitter and my private instagram account (as well as in my real life lol) but you’re right i haven’t really said anything here. i don’t really have a reason for that, i just haven’t had the motivation to write out a big post since my opinion is very much out there on other platforms. that being said, i will throw in my thoughts now that i’ve been asked about them:

okay, so like you mentioned, i was a HUGE ptv fan. i still very much am, but it used to be my entire life. these guys are the reason i’m in the scene at all and they were my first ever concert. i’ve been listening to them for nearly five years (seventh grade to junior in high school). i’ve seen them live ten times and i’ve saved every piece of confetti and every ticket i’ve ever gotten from going to their shows. i even have tony’s pick (which i picked up from the ground and stuck IN MY MOUTH so i wouldn’t lose it until i got to my hotel room) so, huge fan right? right. 

just before all of this happened, i saw them at the same place, same festival i saw them at for the first time, over four years ago. i was on top of the world bc this show reminded me again how much of a ride or die i am for these guys. with all of the shit about gross band guys coming out, i though about how lucky i was that this would never happen to my band (lol). like, i’ve always thought that i was lucky this way, bc when all of that shit with front porch step back in the day, ptv were my guys and they’d never done anything wrong up to that point so i was okay. 

then this stuff with mike happened. i saw someone vague tweet about it, so i was confused and i had to dig through twitter to find the original post. when i read it, i felt sick. at first i completely doubted it, but as i kept re-reading it and going through the thread, the more i started to believe it. i didn’t want to think that someone i loved for so long could be so irresponsible, but it kind of added up to me. 

my school has late starts on wednesday, so instead of going in at 8 like i usually do, i went in at like 9:30. and i was so sick and upset that i ended up going home early bc i just… couldn’t handle it. like… one of my favorite people was now completely different to me and i couldn’t deal. 

now, one thing that really bothered me about this whole thing was how long it took them (or anyone else!*) to make a statement. I completely understand that it does take time for people to release statements, but in my opinion this took too long. i mean i can somewhat understand because it was around thanksgiving but it REALLY rubbed me the wrong way when they were posting about their black friday sales while keeping the whole situation hush, hush. it may have been their team doing that for them, but it looked really shady and like they were brushing this under the rug so as not to interfere with the most profitable time of the year.

*and what i mean by “or anyone else!” is that Alternative Press, Kerrang!, and Rock Sound did not say ANYTHING about this situation until AFTER the statement came out. with other bands in the scene, they write articles almost immediately and update their readers as more information comes out, and then once a band finally releases a statement, they end with that. but they didn’t do anything with pierce the veil. the only websites i found talking about this was tiny underground music blogs that gain no traction and that i had to DIG to find. again, this makes it look shady and like they’re deliberately sweeping things under the rug. i don’t want to outright accuse them of doing that or anything, but it definitely looked bad.

anyway, i worried myself sick waiting for their statement. i checked literally every day and it was the biggest thing on my mind. i found out that they released a statement when someone on twitter posted about it. now, (and again this is gonna be over thinking things, blah, blah) but it does bother me a LITTLE that they only posted this on their facebook (and have since deleted the post), as a lot of people don’t use facebook. it would have reached more people if they had posted a link to the statement on their twitter and released the statement in full on their tumblr page (also pls feel free to correct me if they did post it on their tumblr and have since deleted it! i just can’t find it rn so maybe they did? idk.) because again, it makes it look like they are hiding this and deliberately making sure that it reaches less people. the only way i found the post was going to the Alt. Press twitter and scrolling down to find the like they posted. (which i have now noticed seems to be missing from their website…)

now, i don’t really have many issues with the statement, other than the fact that the way they worded it makes it sound like mike could be allowed back in the band. “So, I have decided to take a break and step away from my position in the band..,” and, “While away from the band…” these two phrases make it sound like he will come back, which, in my opinion, is a horrible move and could seriously jeopardize their careers. 

i mean, honestly, how many parents are going to allow their kids to go to these shows now that they know the drummer has been accused of sleeping with a minor? there is seriously no fucking way my parents are letting me go to their shows, and these are two people who have loved ptv along with me for years. it just doesn’t seem appropriate to have him back when the majority of their fanbase is the age the girl he “dated” was, or younger. also, doing so would completely change the dynamic of their tours. if he’s let back in, you can kiss meet and greets and fans pulled up on stage for Bulletproof, goodbye. those things won’t happen or be acceptable anymore. 

mike is one person of a four-piece band, and he is not the lead singer. yes, it is difficult because he is vic’s brother, and he is and incredible drummer, but he is replaceable. it would be ridiculous to allow him to ruin their careers, and if he truly cares about the other three in the band, he will permanently step away from the band so as not to tarnish their reputations as well. i sincerely doubt that at this point in time he needs the money he would get from being an active member in the band, and i’m sure that they would be more than capable of working out some sort of deal where he can still make a living off of his contributions to the band.

now, for all of the shitty comments that people give in order to justify his actions:

1) i do not care if the age of consent in [INSERT RANDOM COUNTRY/STATE NAME HERE] is lower than 18. in california, where this situation took place, the legal age of consent IS 18. Maybe you disagree with that, but the law in this state clearly states that it is illegal for an adult to be engaged in sexual acts with a minor. also, the way people are raised in different countries can be completely different to how they’re raised in a place like california. not to mention that even if this is the case, it still doesn’t automatically make it right for an adult to date a teenager.

2) stop bringing up the fact that vic and danielle have a ten year age difference. yes, they met when she was 18, but she was of age, and they weren’t in a committed relationship until she was twenty. this argument is void. next,

3) why would this girl be bringing this to light solely because she was jealous of him and was upset that their relationship had ended? wouldn’t she have done that as soon as they had ended things? also, how would she have known that they’d be at the height of their career right now? did you truly believe that 10 years ago, she thought to herself, “in 10 years i’ll get back at him for breaking my heart because that’s when they’re be really big” ??? like, they would have broken up around the time that their second album was coming out, and they were nowhere near the level of fame they are now. how was she to know that they’d be bigger than just some little local band who were barely making a name for themselves? come on.

4) you can support the band without supporting mike. they are not less of a band without him and they should not be reduced to having to live with his actions haunting them. supporting the other members of the band doesn’t automatically mean that you condone Mike’s actions. but it also doesn’t make you less any of a fan to not want him back. 

5) i dont care if you were 14 when you started dating your 20 year old boyfriend or whatever and so you think this was okay. it’s not and i’m sorry that your adult partner thinks it’s cool to date kids.

6) no, i do not believe that he is some evil, horrible, monster of a person. but i still don’t want him back in the band. he did something incredibly irresponsible and damaging some time ago, and these are his consequences. i believe that what he did was wrong, and i do not want him back. there is not changing my mind on this and if he is allowed back, i can no longer support the band. it breaks my heart to even think about that, but that is the way it has to be for me. here’s to hoping that it doesn’t have to come to that, but only time will tell.

Thankful.

Hello, it is me again.  If you’re wondering how me and FUEL are, I sorted everything out with them over the retreat and there was so much forgiveness, love and understanding. A good closure for the months of pain and hurt I felt. :) But I’m here not to rant, or share about ow unhappy I am, or about FUEL. Today, I’d just like to say how blessed I am with the Scotty McCreery and how God visibly made it possible. So I woke up at around 5am on Wednesday because I slept too early. Haha! It’s so weird. Anyway, when i woke up, I headed straight for my phone to check messages and social media notifications. While scrolling through Facebook, I saw accidentally clicked on Scotty McCreery profile. “Oh heck, I’ll just take a gander”, I thought. It was then that I noticed that McCreery and his team were supporting and sharing articles about his new single, “Five More Minutes”, from more independent and lesser known country sites, if you will. They’re not the usual TasteOfCountry or SoundsLikeNashville. “Hmmmm”, I thought. “Maybe I can reach out to his team to see if they’d like to do an interview with CMchat! It’d be great coverage for both his song and our website!” So, I followed my instincts. After I reached out, a favorable response came in in an hour. “Great! Would love to set you up with a phoner with McCreery.” Are you kidding me?! Just like that! Yeah, just like that! Well, not really. A little speed bump surfaced when his manager asked for my number so that they can call me at the scheduled time. “Oh shucks, I can call them instead. But, what happens when they know I’m from Singapore? Would they not want to do an international interview or phone call? Would they think I’m a fraud? Who writes country music from Asia?!” Eventually, I quickly replied, explained how and why I’m writing for CMchat from Singapore, supported it with a link of one of my pieces, and offered to call instead. After I hit the “send” button on my email, I put my phone away and prayed: “Lord, honestly, realistically speaking, the odds are against me. They can do so many other interviews within the States and they don’t need to go through this hassle. I may even be perceived as a fraud or creepy fan in Asia who wants to pester Scotty, I don’t know.  But God, if it is Your will, please let me have this. Pls let this be my first interview. You know how much I’d love to see this work. But also, if this isn’t your will, or if it’s not the time yet for my first interview, please give me the strength to accept the rejection and peace in your plan, something that is always better than what I can perceive. Lord, I lift this up to you.” After that, I reached out for my phone and saw a reply. Scotty’s manager understood and was still keen on setting up the interview. We then went on to fix a time and talk about all the typical interview stuff before it went down.  [Fast-forward to Friday night, 20 minutes before the scheduled phone interview time] Just as I was testing out my new phone call recorder app, the network connection and everything else, I realised that while the app was recording calls, it could never save the recordings and play them! Of course, I panicked! I mean, who wouldn’t, right? In a state of complete anxiousness, I tried to rectify the glitch and pray at the same time. “Oh shit, Lord pls fix this. Let the issue be known to me. If I can’t record the conversation, I would have close to nothing to transcribe! Pls Lord, pls make this possible...” Boom! I found the issue. The wifi I was connected to was not working well, and so the recordings that used internet connection to save, could not go through. OK fine it’s pretty stupid. But honestly, the issue could have been worse. God made a way again.  So 2 minutes before I dialled the numbers, I prayed again, for peace (I was anxious I would screw up!), composure, instincts to ask good follow-up questions, and just to have the conversation be led by Him. I’m pretty blessed that the whole interview went decently well. :) All praise be to Jesus for planting that instinct in me, getting rid of every speed bump that surfaced, and just letting His guiding hand be present as we were talking. The transcribing and piecing together of the article went well, too. :) Thanks for reading!! Lol, look at me personifying tumblr.
