WELP, Tumblr killed the Fanfic Recommendation List...

Upon doing today's update to the Hunter-Centric Fanfic Recommendation List I've discovered that any change to the list now immediately removes all the links. So it looks like the most up-to date version of the original post will be the 5/26/2023 update.

It is EXCEEDINGLY frustrating that there was no warning that today was the day, or that instead of just NOT ALLOWING the edit, it instead let me ruin the whole post in a way I can't undo now.

Thanks so fucking much @staff @changes for not making that clear! And thanks for putting tiny link limits in the NEW editor you're forcing me to use, effectively meaning I can no longer do this. Thanks for taking that sliver of joy and community from me.

Unless something about the new posting editor's limits changes I will no longer be able to bring you an ordered, and updated list any longer.

I had fun while it lasted, but I wish I could continue....

Yup.... I lost a link list post I'd been updating for nearly a year today because of them fucking with the legacy editor. They didn't even just remove it entirely, instead it just reformats the whole post and ruins it irreversibly. And I can't even replicate it because the new post editor had a tiny link limit.

At what point do we acknowledge that capitalism has effectively turned the whole internet into an overflowing molten landfill? And anything that hasn't become a dumpster fire YET inevitably will as soon as money takes priority over community? Whether it's compromising to make enough money to keep a site alive, or the owners being greedy little shits and just wanting more for the sake of having more.

More money. More money. More money. Even when it's enough, it's not enough. Fuck these corporations and their "growth at any cost" mentality. You know what else grows at any cost and eventually destroys the systems that brought it to life in the first place?

Hello, Tumblr. Tumblr here. We’re launching live streaming on Tumblr, and we’re calling it…well, Tumblr Live.

Tumblr Live brings streaming directly to the dashboard, meaning your Tumblr audience and your streaming audience can converge. What’s that, you say? Synergy? Beautiful.

Initially, we’re rolling Tumblr Live out to the US only via our Android and iOS apps. Desktop and international streaming and viewing will follow in time.

Here’s how it works:

The little 🎥 at the bottom of your dashboard in your mobile app will take you to a Tumblr Live tab, where you’ll be able to scroll through streams that are live at that time—indicated by a green dot. (Your search bar is still there! It now lives in the top right corner of your screen.)

As long as you keep it clean, you can stream anything that takes your fancy by tapping the “Go Live!” button—ducks in the park, the wonky snowman you built, your cursed cross stitch, etc.

Streaming works with both front and back cameras, so if you’re camera-shy, you can stream without showing your face. 

You can bestow bouncer status upon your most trusted and loyal viewers, which means they can help you moderate your stream for any nasties while you’re live.

You can tap on any live avatar to jump into their stream—whether you follow that blog or not.

You can send little gifts to the streamer during their stream if you’re enjoying what they’re up to.

You can collect your favorite streamers in a special tab for later.

And that’s it for now. Just imagine! Gaming live streams! Book clubs! Live fungi feed! D’n’D campaigns! Artist live draws! Shark facts! GRWMs! Cosplay and con casts! Knitting hour! I just scrolled 600+ posts on here and can I just say, this site is a lot more entertaining than twitter. In less than 12 posts I saw Stranger Things smut, REALLY GOOD furry art, a pic of someone with a bloody nose, people welcoming Redditors, discourse on punk patches, boobs, some girls art that I may go buy a piece, a recipe for strawberry cookies, a pic of a kitty in a hoodie, a really attractive guy, someone bitching about the state of the DC universe, and more boobs, really nice ones too.

And I don't feel exhausted from all the casual hate and meanness I felt doing the same thing on Twitter. I feel like I'm home. A lil place that shows me all kinds of strange things, that'll be even stranger tomorrow. (Yeah there's haters on here but it's so easy to just block and ignore em.)

Ok, I'm just going to reblog myself to provide more info for my fairy light hack, especially since our originator of getting the dumpster fire made, @kedreevaa, asked.

I am one of those types of people who just HAS a stash of fairy lights. They look like this:

If you also have a small human in your house who likes to make things, you buy a few extra so you can say yes to their creative endeavors. One of my endeavors was turning a clear umbrella into a jellyfish:

Where do you get 'em? The Internet. Amazon, Etsy, pick your vendor and they will have them in all sorts of colors. The ones I used for this project are orange or amber or similar. You should probably have on hand 2032-batteries, as they require 2 to work. They come with a set, but if you fall asleep too many times with the twinkle lights on, they will definitely not last. Have fun!

It has arrived. My dumpster fire. It's better than I was expecting.

It is 2 parts and comes with a tea light.

Except I have fairy lights and the inside of the 3D print flames is mostly hollow. So I did this.

It is beautiful.
