Tumblr media
āœ¦ Okay, I give in. Let's upload our gifs on the beta editor to prepare for a gif pack page. Resources are available at the bottom, so lets get started !!
Tumblr media
So first things first, you can only upload 30 gifs at a time. Now for me, I will always upload as I gif, around every 20 gifs, then upload to the page (this also ensures I don't skip any or have doubles) and keep gifing. That used to mean that I don't have to wait for tumblr to load 300 gifs and die from impatience. For the rest of y'all that means you're going to have to batch upload. I know, I'm sorry.
Note: With the help of @nataliealynlind we discovered that the daily limit is 250 gifs! So if you have more than that, prepare to upload your gifs over the course of a couple days or use a second blog. (imo this is another great reason to upload as you gif! that way you don't have to get stuck at 250!)
Tumblr media
So after you upload your gifs (in this case I only did 10)*, you're going to go to the gear at the top of your post and click it. Then scroll all the way to the bottom where it says Text Editor. This looks familiar, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Note: If you don't save it as a draft first, your gifs will be in .gif format, not .gifv. This means you can skip removing this tag later on, but I'm not sure if gifs that are uploaded but never saved/drafted will later disappear at some point. To be safe, I would save it as a draft. I just forgot at this part tbh
Well the good news is, you only have to change this once! The bad news is, we don't do Markdown then HTML anymore bc Markdown doesn't strip any of the code anymore šŸ™ƒ So just change it to HTML
Tumblr media
Now it should look like this! Fun!
Tumblr media
Okay, now we're going to copy that text and take it on over to our new best friend, the HTML Cleaner! So you're going to want to paste it on the right side of the screen. Your gifs should appear on the left side. If both sides have text, that's how you know you pasted it on the left.
Tumblr media
So in order to get ride of all this extra code, it's going to take a couple extra steps. First, you're going to check these boxes on the left hand side.
Tumblr media
Now, on the right hand side, you're going to enter these under Find and Replace (copy/paste section below!!). I know you're like, uh what? Where the hell did you get those numbers? Well, I got them from our gif post code!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For easy copy pasting:
Find: <figure> Replace: (leave blank)
Find: </figure> Replace: (leave blank)
So after you add the specific widths for your gifs, you're also going to want to add the following:
Find: .gifv Replace: .gif
Find: alt="" Replace: (leave blank)
Find: /> < Replace: /><
NOTE: If your gifs are usually the same size, I would recommend saving these snippits above on your computer's sticky notes or a draft to copy/paste for future uploads! While I do appreciate the viewer traffic, I'm sure coming to this tutorial every time is gonna get old real fast.
After all that, click Clean HTML
Tumblr media
And now, your code should look like this! If there's still a space between your image links, just click Clean HTML again and it should get rid of it!
Tumblr media
Now your code is nice and clean to put into your gif pages! Not quite sure how to do that? Read the Setting Up Your Sidepage section in this older tutorial!!

schlatt x single mom!reader part 1 (aside from my post about how you met)
(this will be going up on my ao3 once it's ready, i'll probably edit it and format it differently and stuff so don't be surprised if it's a lil different but tumblr gets the first version)
(if anyone has an idea for a title for this series lmk pls eek)
even though daphneā€™s alarm clock went off at the same time every morning with the same exact song like, wellā€¦ clockwork, it still infuriated you to no end. having to wake up to ā€œcrazy frogā€ every damn day since you made the mistake of showing it to her almost a year ago now was bad, but what was worse was how for the past few weeks, you would stub your toe or shin or whatever it may be on one of the dozens of packed up boxes strewn about the cramped studio apartment you shared with your daughter on your way to turning off the godforsaken hello kitty alarm clock. if it werenā€™t so special to the both of you, you would have chucked it out of one of the two tiny windows you had ages ago.
ā€œup, daphydil. we gotta be at the cafe in 20, openingā€™s in 2 hours. now, cā€™mon girlie,ā€ you gently coaxed her out of bed. she was small for a five-year-old, golden brown ringlets messily framing her face and hanging in front of her forever wild eyes. a soft smile played at your lips as you stroked her hair. ā€œthereā€™s my beautiful girl. alright, can you be ready in 10 minutes? i bet you canā€™t. i bet you canā€™t so much that if you are ready to go in 10 minutes, shoes and everything, iā€™ll let you ride on my back all the way to the store. does that sound good?ā€ daphne grinned mischievously and nodded.
ā€œcan i have a muffin for breakfast at the store?ā€ she asked.
must be a good day, you thought. sheā€™s talking.
ā€œof course, bear. iā€™ll make the blueberry ones like you like for both of us, how ā€˜bout that?ā€
ā€œokay. stop taking up my 10 minutes, please.ā€
you laughed and rose off her bed. ā€œthatā€™s fair. the clock starts now, daph, gogogo!ā€ you set a timer on your phone and chuckled to yourself again as she raced to her pile of boxes to pick out an outfit. she had the most eccentric taste for a kindergartener. well, she would be in kindergarten. you had yet to find a school that worked for herā€” sure, she had only tried preschools, but the amount of other kids there combined with the lack of your presence sent her into a shutdown for almost a week each time. so you decided to homeschool her. school didnā€™t start for another week, so you still had time to get things sorted. but it was going to be extremely challenging, running the cafe, teaching her, getting moved into the new apartment, and all the other stuff you had to attend to.
for a split second as you walked back over to your own pile of clothes, the man from yesterday flashed through your mind. you couldnā€™t stop yourself from going over his features while you changed into working clothes; something about him made you want to give him a chance. and so, before you knew it, you were responding to his ā€œthanks againā€ text he had sent once you parted ways.
you: schlatt. if youā€™re free, meet us at this address for breakfast. would love to talk. if not, weā€™re there all day. thanks.
with that, you sent him the location of the store and chucked your phone onto the bed, hissing in regret and running a hand through your hair. the embarrassment was short lived, though, as almost immediately your phone dinged with a response.
jesus, eager much?
but being the hypocrite that you are, you dove for the phone, just as excited as he was.
schlatt: hey!! yeah, sure, i can be there in maybe an hour. see you then!
taking deep breaths, you slid your phone into your back pocket and strapped on your work boots, grabbing your bag and slinging it over your shoulder.
ā€œiā€™m ready.ā€
ā€œfuck!! oh, jesus, daph, iā€™m sorry,ā€ you panted. ā€œyou scared the shit out of me, girl, you walk too quiet. alright, let me grab a few last things and weā€™ll go.ā€ she nodded, smiling, and stepped out of your way. after you had locked the door behind you both, she raised her arms as if asking to be picked up and made a grabbing motion. with a dramatic sigh and a roll of your eyes, you squatted down and helped daphne climb on top of your back. once she was settled, you began the trek down the street to the cafe.
you wished more than anything you could see the world through daphneā€™s eyes. to her, pigeons were fascinating creatures that she could spew off facts about for hours. she was so full of knowledge and so willing to share it; it was how she showed her love. to her, a piece of trash on the ground could be turned into an accessory for a hat, or a decoration, or whatever it may be. she was endlessly creative and resourceful (where she got that from, you had no idea). to her, her mother was a hero. and, god, how you envied her ability to see you that way.
ā€œweā€™re here!ā€ you announced as you turned the key in the lock and stepped into the dark building. flicking on the lights, you leaned down and let daphne hop off your shoulders. ā€œsmells like coffee.ā€
ā€œi hate the smell of coffee,ā€ daphne mumbled.
ā€œme too, bear. now, cā€™mon, we gotta get going!! weā€™re opening soon!ā€
she began her routine of sweeping the dining area first, and then the kitchen, and then the bathrooms while you turned on all the machines and let a few employees in the back entrance to help start everything up. opening always goes quicker than closing, so it wasnā€™t long before you opened the doors and let the regulars in.
but among them was schlatt. somehow you had forgotten he was coming, and daphne lit up when she saw him walk in.
ā€œfunny man!ā€ she yelled, dropping the tongs she was holding and sprinting around to meet his fistbump from her station at the muffin display.
ā€œdaph!! now i gotta wash those again,ā€ you grumbled. ā€œhey, schlatt.ā€ you sheepishly finished wiping down the counter and scanned the store for any customers. luckily, it was saturday, so there were only a few people already seated and enjoying their food; you had some time to talk before the next rush came in.
ļæ½ļæ½child labor, y/n?? really?ā€ he joked, eyeing the menu above you.
ā€œitā€™s not child labor if you went through labor to have the child,ā€ daphne spoke, repeating a phrase you had said in passing once to a friend.
ā€œoh my god!! daphy, please, can you go make sure the mug shelf is all straight?ā€
she nodded, glancing at schlatt one last time before she left. he was trying to hold in his laughter, but let out a sputtering chuckle once she walked away.
you closed your eyes and took a breath before speaking. ā€œiā€™m so sorry. i swear i said that once. like, genuinely one time and she says that whenever someone comments on her working. sheā€™s too smart for her own good, i donā€™t know what to do with her.ā€
ā€œyou know, you do an awful lot of apologizing when thereā€™s nothing really to be sorry for. sheā€™s hilarious, from what iā€™ve seen. why do you always try to defend her?ā€
your face went hot and you stammered a few times. ā€œbuy me a drink first, damn, dudeā€¦ā€ with a huff, you went back to scrubbing the spotless counter.
ā€œi- fuck. iā€™m sorry. thatā€™s too much. let me start over, please?ā€ he leaned in a bit, resting his elbow on the surface between you. when you gave him a short nod, he sighed a bit with relief and nodded his head towards a blueberry muffin. ā€œcan i get one of those?ā€
you couldnā€™t help but grin at his choice of pastry as you packaged it. ā€œanything to drink?ā€
ā€œwhatā€™s your coffee order?ā€
ā€œthree cans of diet coke. i donā€™t drink that shit,ā€ you tried to jest but it sounded bitter.
he blinked a few times and nodded. ā€œgood, me neither. i was willing to, though, let that be known.ā€
with a laugh, you replied, ā€œnoted. here, take a seat and iā€™ll bring you a lemonade? daphā€™s idea, she thought it would be refreshing to keep in stock for the heathens like us who donā€™t drink bean juice.ā€
ā€œsounds good. iā€™ll be over here,ā€ he called as he walked towards a table hidden away in the corner. you couldnā€™t stop smiling to yourself as you poured two lemonades, thanking the stars above you remembered to actually make some this morning. usually nobody ordered any until the afternoon.
setting the two glasses on the table as you slid into the seat across from him, you shot one final glance at your assistant manager, who was running the counter while you took a few minutes to talk with schlatt. luckily, she was too busy with a customer asking for a refill to make a face at you and your new potential suitor.
ā€œholy shit, thatā€™s fancy lemonade. is that mint on top?ā€
ā€œyeah, daph says it ā€˜enhances the flavor profile,ā€™ or some shit. she likes food network a lot.ā€
he eyed the green sprig and took a cautious sip, eyebrows raising once he made a decision on the flavor. ā€œsheā€™s really smart, man. i never woulda thought of this. how old is she?ā€
ā€œfive. she has autism; sheā€™s always been crazy genius. i donā€™t know how to keep up with her, sheā€™s already smarter than me,ā€ you chuckled quietly. ā€œsheā€™s so creative, too. i canā€™t find a school good enough to teach her things, she has a hard time being away from me and itā€™s just a whole thing. speak of the devil, actually.ā€ daphne was skipping across the dining area and sat down in the seat next to you. ā€œhey, bear!ā€
ā€œiā€™m not a devil, mama.ā€
ā€œitā€™s an expression, baby. remember? like, ā€˜easy as pie?ā€™ā€
ā€œoh yeah. because we tried to make pie and it went really bad.ā€
you sighed, smiling, and rested your head in your hands. ā€œyes, bear. ā€˜speak of the devilā€™ just means, ā€˜here comes the person we were just talking about!ā€™ā€
daphne pulled out a notebook from her apron pouch and took a pen from your shirt pocket to write down her new phrase.
ā€œwhatā€™s that?ā€ schlatt asked her. ā€œyouā€™re five and you know how to write??ā€ you opened your mouth to tell him, but daphne beat you to it.
ā€œi like to write things down so i can talk better.ā€
ā€œi think you talk just fine, personally.ā€
both of you flicked your eyes up to squint at him, curling your mouths in the same look of confusion and intrigue.
ā€œoh my god, you two look identical making that face, thatā€™s hilarious,ā€ he mumbled through a mouthful of muffin. at the same time, daphne and you side-eyed each other and started laughing.
ā€œmama says i talk just fine too, but nobody else ever did. now two people think i talk good. maybe you could be my dad,ā€ she wondered aloud. you choked on your lemonade and slammed it back onto the table, spilling some onto the old, damaged wood.
ā€œokay, daph. can you go get me some paper towels from the back to clean this up and then go see if anyone needs help putting sprinkles on the donuts?ā€
ā€œi already looked, the donuts are done. but the syrups need refilling.ā€
ā€œokay, go do that, bear.ā€
ā€œmhm.ā€
she skipped away, oblivious to what she had just started, and returned a moment later with a roll of towels to clean up. it was silent until she left for the second time.
ā€œyouā€™re gonna trust a five-year-old to refill syrup bottles?ā€
ā€œsheā€™s actually steadier than i am. she came up with, like, a whole system, itā€™s really cool. and sheā€™s not by herself, we have a highschooler thatā€™s working with us for the summer, she helps her.ā€
thank god thatā€™s the first thing he brought up.
ā€œmm. listen, i understand how kids are, we donā€™t have to talk about what she justā€¦ā€
ā€œyeah. thanks. sheā€™s, umā€¦ she just kinda says whatā€™s on her mind; i canā€™t stop her.ā€
ā€œi get it. so, uh,ā€ he rotated his now half-empty glass a few times as he went over what to say in his mind. ā€œwhy does your nametag say ā€˜owner?ā€™ā€
with a glance down at your badge, you slunk down in your chair. ā€œthis is my parentsā€™ store. they always wanted me to take over, and i kind of didnā€™t have a choice after mom fell down the stairs over there. they used to live above the cafe, now theyā€™re in a home and i have to run this dump. at least i get to move out of my studio and into this place, though. if i can ever find the time to actually get my stuff from one place to another.ā€ you sounded more and more dejected as you went on, unable to meet his gaze.
ā€œi can help you move,ā€ schlatt offered smoothly. you smiled, but shook your head.
ā€œnah, man, we have a lot of stuff. itā€™d be too much to ask of you.ā€
ā€œshut the fuck up, itā€™s fine. look, how about we make a trade? iā€™ll help you move if you let me take you out on a date.ā€
you blinked a few times in confusion as your face heated up. ā€œm-maybe, dude. i dunno. look, weā€™re in a rush now, iā€™ve gotta get behind the counter and try to help my employees get this under control. iā€™ll come back in a bit.ā€ you gestured to the line that was almost out the door and rose from your seat.
ā€œlemme help!ā€
his words stopped you in your tracks. ā€œwhat??ā€
ā€œlet me help,ā€ he repeated, ā€œitā€™s clear you need it, youā€™ve got three guys besides you and one of them is a toddler.ā€
he had a point. flustered, you waved for him to follow you. ā€œjust put on an apron and wash your hands.ā€
the rush of patrons took about an hour to deal with; they just kept coming. schlatt handled everything with grace, upselling people on pastries when they only ordered a coffee and making casual conversation with the usual customers that came in to ask about you and your family.
he was so much better at dealing with chaos than you thought he would be. for some reason, you were expecting him to dip out as soon as he could. it was hard to picture him wanting to hang around after learning about you and how complicated you were. but for some unknown reason, he stayed. you watched him with a soft smile on your face as he undid his apron and hung it back up before stepping around to the other side of the counter.
ā€œwasnā€™t so bad,ā€ he teased, flicking his head towards the lemonade dispensers. ā€œgimme another one of those.ā€ you pushed the hand that was extending a credit card towards you away and turned around to grab a to-go cup.
ā€œyou kickinā€™ me out?ā€ he asked, holding a hand to his chest in mock offense.
ā€œi canā€™t work right with you here. need to think. so, i guess, justā€¦ show up here at 8 tonight wearing something nice and ready to take me somewhere. youā€™re gonna help me move my stuff this weekend.ā€ unable to look him in the eyes as your face burned, you handed him the drink and quickly crossed your arms when he took it.
ā€œi am, huh?ā€ he was grinning as he took the straw between his teeth.
ā€œyes.ā€ you swept some crumbs away with your foot and glanced at him for a split second.
ā€œalright, y/n. you like steak?ā€
ā€œi guess. havenā€™t had it in years, itā€™s too expensiveā€¦ā€ you mumbled.
ā€œperfect. iā€™ll see you at 8, toots. bye, daphne!ā€ he waved to the girl who was sitting at the table with an elderly woman sketching something in her notebook.
ā€œbye, funny man!ā€ she called back, not looking up from her drawing. the woman across from her looked shocked at her words.
ā€œbye, schlatt!ā€ you waited until he was down the street before jumping up and down a few times and pumping your fists in the air.
ā€œgot a date?ā€ the woman watching daphne asked across the nearly empty store.
ā€œuhm. yeah, actually, i do, mrs. reid,ā€ you stuttered.
ā€œneed me to watch daphne for you?ā€
ā€œyeah, that would be super helpful, actually.ā€ you brought her a new cup of tea and traded it for her old one. ā€œon the house.ā€
ā€œsheā€™s been talking a lot more.ā€
running one hand through your hair, you sighed and sat down next to daphne. ā€œyeah, weā€™ve been working on it a lot. something about schlatt makes her open up. anything to say, bear?ā€
she just stuck her tongue out in concentration and continued drawing pigeons.
ā€œthatā€™s okay, daphy. you donā€™t ever have to talk if you donā€™t want to.ā€ with a gentle pet of her head, you stood up and walked back behind the counter to help a customer that had just come in. you were unable to stop yourself from running over the events of the morning in your head, focusing on how schlatt would smile at you and how he seemed genuinely interested in what you had to say.
you just have to be careful, you kept telling yourself. donā€™t get your hopes up.
it was too late. you couldnā€™t help it; your hopes were high. he made you feelā€¦ normal again. it had been almost six years since you felt that way. now you were just praying it would last, even if for only a night.

!theres no smut in this guys . give me a break this is my first time posting on tumblr!
words: 1.6k
Tumblr media
After months of looking and years of hard work at college, Y/N finally got the call. She had gotten her dream job at a law firm, which might not sound like much but it very much so is. All her life this had been just what her dad wanted for her, to grow up and become a powerful lawyer and strong young woman.
So thatā€™s what she did. She worked her ass off, never attending parties and never straying far from the lines. Pretty much everything she did was to please the memory of her beloved father.
Tonight though, was a change of pace for Y/N. A group of her friends invited her to the local bar, after finding out about her new found job.
ā€œCome on Y/N. One drink. Live a little before you jump into that great job of yours.ā€ Mia said into the phone.
Y/N sighed and looked around at her apartment. She didnā€™t really have any plans for the night, and there wasnā€™t any harm in having one drink with her friends. I mean, how often do you get to celebrate things like this right?
ā€œFine, Mia. Just one drink. No funny business though, I really canā€™t go in tomorrow with a hang over.ā€ Y/N smiled.
One drink very quickly became two, and two became four. Y/N was very drunk. The room was a bit blurry, but she was certainly sober to know sheā€™d had enough.
Mia and the group were having a blast, and of course she was as well. This type of thing was never Y/Nā€™s scene. She was more of the ā€˜stay inside with a blanket and a bookā€™ kind of girl.
She kind of hated nights like this. The smell and taste of alcohol overpowering her senses, drunk sweaty people dancing around, and a black dress that was all too short and uncomfortable.
After looking at her friends a while more, she had decided she was done. Itā€™s way past time to call it a night.
She gave a smile to know one in particular, and turned to get her wallet.
She did not expect though, to be met with very pretty eyes and the most gorgeous hair she has probably seen on a man, or any human being for that matter.
ā€œCan I buy you a drink, love?ā€ The man asked, eyeing her carefully up and down.
His voice was dripping with attractiveness, and a beautiful english accent.
ā€œUhm, I really should be going. Thank you though,ā€ She did her best to be polite.
Although the man looked like a literal gift from God, she really needed to get home.
She missed her pajamas. And her cat.
ā€œCome on, just one. If you really wanna go after that, Iā€™ll call you an uber.ā€ He smiled.
Okay, by now Y/N was very sure she was dreaming. No man that sexy can possibly be that kind. Nope.
She looked at him carefully, like he did to her just moments ago. He was quite tall compared to her, and he was wearing a very nice suit, that fit him perfectly. A businessman maybe?
The man continued to patiently wait, until she gave her answer.
ā€œOkay fine one drink, can I at least have your name?ā€ She smiled at the curly headed man.
He clapped his hands together softly, and let out a chuckle.
ā€œIā€™m Harry.ā€
ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”
Y/N felt the warmth of the sun on her as she slowly sat up in her bed. The memories of last night still a mystery in her mind.
All she knew is that, somehow she was not late for work.
And there was someone in her bed.
A man was laying next to her, facing the opposite direction. From what she could see, he was hot. He certainly had a very nice back.
ā€œIā€™m Harry.ā€
Memories from the night prior flooded her mind. She began to slightly panic. Sheā€™s never experienced anything like this before, and she didnā€™t quite know what to do with the man in the bed next to her.
He was fast asleep, and right now she wishes she were dead. Out of all the stupid things she's ever done, this seems to take the cake.Ā
Trying her best not to wake the man, Y/N made her way quietly out of her room. I mean, she could just get ready for work? Let him wake up on his own?
With the few times that she had gotten drunk in the past, she's never really had a hang over. Call it good karma, or maybe just luck.
She examined her self in the mirror, noticing the hickeys that littered her pale chest.
"Jesus. Couldn't he have aimed a little lower there Harry." She grimaced, turning away from the mirror.
Although she felt a little stupid and embarrassed, she didn't really regret sleeping with the man in her bed.
He seemed mature, which is always nice in situations like this. Not to mention he was mind numbingly attractive.
ā€”
Soon after her shower was finished and she had gotten ready for work, she stepped out of the bathroom trying her best to prepare to wake the man up.
It took every bone in her body not to just let him stay there until he deemed fit to leave, but she figured that wouldn't be the best of ideas. She walked down the small hallway and quickly noticed the smell of coffee surrounding the apartment.
Walking into the kitchen, the man was stood in just his boxers, patiently waiting for the coffee to brew.
Standing there she decided to indulge herself a bit. She never really gets the pleasure of housing someone like this in her apartment, so she figures it wouldn't hurt to admire a bit.
"The mugs are in the top cabinet." She was a bit surprised by how weak her voice was, considering how confident she was last night.
He turned quickly and gave her a quick smile. He seemed a bit wrecked, which was a given under the circumstances.
"Hangover?" She asked, slowly making her way to the medicine cabinet.
He nodded and sat with his cup of black coffee, placing his hands around his head.
"Yes. You seem perfectly fine though. Is it bad that i kind of wish you were hungover too?" He laughed a bit, but quickly grimaced at the sound of his own voice.
What he said made her giggle a bit, before she handed him a few ibuprofen.
He mumbled a quick thank you and finished his cup of coffee.
He stood, placing his hand on either side of the counter where Y/N sat.
Suddenly, she felt like she was in junior high all over again. Y/N felt her cheeks go hot and it felt like every sign of breath had vacated her lungs.
"Hangover or not. From what i can remember, last night was great." He said in a slight whisper.
He was close enough now, that Y/N could feel his breath on my neck. It sent shivers down her spine and she could've swarm she would die right on the spot.
He placed his lips on hers gently, and boy she could've sworn she felt sparks. Her whole face was on fire at this point. No man, or woman, has ever had quite this effect on her.
"I wish I could stay love, but I have to head in to work in about an hour." He said, tracing circles on the side of her arm.
She smiled and looked at the clock, she still had about thirty minutes before she had to get to the firm, and living pretty close surely helped her situation.
"It's okay you can go. It was nice- meeting you Harry."
He gave her one last kiss on the lips before returning to the room to get dressed.
ā€”
Y/N was actually quite sad that he had left. She wishes he could've stayed longer, but she wasn't going to be that girl.
It was a one night stand, and nothing more.
She sighed and looked up at the polished building. Her cup of coffee had gone a bit cold, but she drank it nonetheless.
She checked her watch quickly, and decided it would be best just to go ahead in.
Y/N was very nervous. She worked hard and earned her position, but she was still a bit worried about how her arrival would be taken.
She was a nice girl, and she hoped that people would treat her the same.
She got a few looks as she walked in, but most everyone continued on with their business as if she was just another intern. That she was though.
"Y/N hey!" She stopped in her tracks as her close friend Liam flagged her down.
He stopped in front of her and began to give her the run down of the building.
"Here's everything you need, badge, ID card, and I wrote down the pin numbers to the break room doors. Oh and you have a quick meeting with the boss in about five minutes. He's running late, so you can just go wait in his office." Liam panted.
I was a bit overwhelmed with all the information he gave me, but I did my best not to show my nervousness.
"Okay. I'm going to head there now. Wish me luck okay?" She grinned at the man.
He gave her a quick hug, and then hurriedly made his way over to his office.
ā€”ā€”ā€”
The bosses office was quite bare. She'd never seen or met this man. Y/N was hired by the head of the department she'd be working in. This man that she was meeting with was the head of the whole damn building.
Kind of intimidating, but it's nothing she can't handle.
After waiting for about fifteen minutes, the door opened and closed quickly.
"I apologize for my lateness, Miss Y/L/N. I was stuck in morning traffic." A familiar voice rang out.
She grimaced and turned around slowly to face the man.
Her boss.

Hellooo babies and dear Anons šŸ‘‹šŸ¼šŸ¤— Welcome to a new ā€˜Q&Aā€™ post. Enjoy šŸ™ƒ
Tumblr media
Here, dear Anon. I spoke and gave my interpretation of Find U Again here: https://fa-by.tumblr.com/post/648195009382842368/2-%C9%9F (sixth question).
Tumblr media
Here, dear Anon. I talked about Michael Clifford here: https://fa-by.tumblr.com/post/648194217526640640/%C9%9F (Point nĀ° 2).
Tumblr media
Nope and nope, dear Anon. Camila was in a relationship before they got together. May I advise you to listen to their songs with a little more attention, dear?
Tumblr media
They were certainly more distant, dear Anon. As for the not speaking, it was a bit impossible not to do it work-wise speaking, but they certainly didn't talk about them and their situation. Not until Laur finally got her head out of her ass.
Tumblr media
1) Of course I do, dear Anon. 2) She didn't hide it very well as you say. 3) Yes, because Lauren, but also Camila, are anything but subtle when they're jealous.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much, dear Anon šŸ¤— and forgive me, but I don't think I understood what you mean. Do you mean if they were angry at each other? Because if they were angry at each other, then I don't think they shared a room šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ā€
Tumblr media
Hiii to you too, baby CS šŸ‘‹šŸ¼šŸ˜„ Lauren created her Tumblr at 14, so, no, I'm sorry, dear. It has nothing to do with Camila.
Tumblr media
Hello to you too, dear Anon šŸ‘‹šŸ¼šŸ˜„ When they stopped communicating again. It became painful when they stopped sharing with each other moments, situations, feelings, desires, opinions, fears, and everything that is enclosed in communication. But this happened after their first breakup. Their real first breakup lasted very little and led to their rings, dear. Sooo.
Tumblr media
No, dear Anon, they weren't fighting. That was a soundcheck, not the concert. Can't you see they didn't have their white stage costumes? Can't you see they were all lazily rehearsing the steps? And then, I'm sorry, dear, but have you ever seen Camila angry? Does it look like she's angry here?
Tumblr media
That's just Mila being Mila, dear Anon šŸ¤£
Tumblr media
No, dear Anon. That rumor was created as soon as the video of Camila singing the ā€˜The Hills/Crazy in Loveā€™ mashup cover came out on July 3, 2015. It's just that. A cover like many others she's done. Mila at the time still didn't have the possibility and the access to record in a professional studio outside of 5H, so let alone if she could write and sell a song. And another proof I can give you about this is the fact that she hadn't even written I Know What You Did Last Summer yet. Camila, Ally, and Troy (Ally's ex-boyfriend) went to Taylor's ā€˜1989 Tourā€™ concert on July 10, 2015 (Shiseido was one of the opening acts, and that was the day ā€˜they wroteā€™, sure, Jane, a part of IKWDLS backstage). Exactly 7 days after that video. So, dear Anon, my answer is no. I don't believe at all in the possibility that it happened.
Tumblr media
Hello to you too, dear Anon šŸ‘‹šŸ¼šŸ˜„ Yes, I read it, and no, dear. The story was written in 2014, so even though we can find coincidences today, it means absolutely nothing. They're just that: coincidences. The girl who wrote it, Jazmin, is from Germany, and that alone should make you realize she's not an insider. She's just a really talented and brilliant girl who has been able to write stories like Do I Wanna Know, CC7, and LJ10.
Tumblr media
Of course I've seen/heard that video, dear Anon. I also talked about it in my last post, about the kiss more specifically. And to answer your questions:
1) neither. You can hear someone say: ā€œThis is weird. I missed you so muchā€. And honestly? I find this part of the audio so incredibly strange. You wanna know why? Because the video starts with screaming fans, right? One of them even screaming Laurenā€™s name. Then there's this sentence said at the same time as the kiss. That alone proves they didn't say it, but thatā€™s not even what makes that sentence weird for me. It's the fact that I believe it was inserted into the video. I mean, I can't hear what Lucy and Nando are saying who are much closer to the camera than Camren, but I can clearly hear this sentence which is should supposedly have been said by one of them in a low voice from inside the van? Like, whaaaat? Come on, now. Look and listen for yourself if you don't believe me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAZS1QhEgoU.
2) Surprised by what? And why are you so sure they slept together?
I hope you're having a good day too, dear Anon.
Tumblr media
Hello to you too, dear Anon šŸ‘‹šŸ¼šŸ˜„ To me, Camila explains in a brilliantly sarcastic and sassy way, how she doesn't need a guy. Like ā€œCinderella never asked for a princeā€, in this case, her.
If you think about it, all Disney princesses are beautiful, well-dressed, thin, with long hair, often naĆÆve, and especially in the first movies, white. And all of them always follow the same basic model: they wait for the intervention of prince charming to solve the problems of their existence. Disney has luckily evolved over the years, but do you realize that theyā€™ve made us grow up with the idea that to save us from our troubles and to change our lives, will be the encounter with ā€˜the right manā€™? That finding the love of one's life is the goal for a woman, and that beauty is the means to conquer it?
Disney movies, undoubtedly, convey a lot of positive messages. They can spur us on to being altruistic and optimistic, to commit ourselves to what we do, to try to change our own destiny, etc., etc. But they also have negative aspects and messages like, indeed, a Cinderella. The poor and beautiful maid, forced to work as a scullery maid by her stepmother and evil stepsisters, envious of her beauty. An unhappy housewife who doesnā€™t lift a finger to change the bad situation sheā€™s in. And what's the only way her life changes? When the handsome and rich prince she met for only five minutes, marries her. I mean, what? Sis, you danced for a couple of hours at a party with him! You basically know nothing about him, but you marry him? Okay...
Disney animated movies are rites of passage, and although it may not seem from what I said, I really love animated movies. Although they have messages that may or may not adversely affect, they're also beautiful and fun. I grew up seeing them, and I am who I am today. I watched the videotapes every day and knew them all by heart. But then growing up, I realized that not everything they show is right. So, I advise you, dear Anon, and whoever is reading this, if you have a little sister, a little cousin, or are dealing with little girls, please, explain the differences to them as you watch those movies with them. Explain to them that beauty isn't everything. Explain to them that they don't need to be blonde and blue-eyed like Cinderella. Because they are and will be beautiful as they are, and that especially when they're older, this will not have to become a requirement to be socially accepted.
But anyway. Sorry if I dwelt, dear Anon šŸ˜… I believe Camila used this song as her own unique way to dispel the stereotype of the classic Disney princess. Sentences like ā€œShe said ā€˜a dream is a wish your heart makesā€™, and he's a sad realityā€, ā€œUs twenty first century girls need chivalry tooā€, and ā€œI'm still a damn princess to youā€ make us understand this. She didn't need a guy, and that's all the song stands for. Hope you have a good day too, dear šŸ˜Š
šŸ¤øšŸ»ā€ā™€ā€šŸ¤øšŸ»ā€ā™€ā€šŸ¤øšŸ»ā€ā™€ā€
Aaand I'm done šŸ˜› I hope I was helpful in this case too šŸ™ƒ Thank you all for your asks and as usual, know that I'm available for those who have questions, so feel free to ask šŸ˜Š
Always remember to be kind, to others and to yourselves. Be a good example. Be patient. Be safe and take care of yourselves. Don't let our ship sink. Keep shipping them, but please respectfully šŸ™šŸ¼ Sending you virtual love and hugs šŸ¤—šŸ¤—šŸ¤— I love you, babies. Always with love,Ā FĀ ā¤ļø

A/N: Iā€™ve been posting a lot of content. Weā€™ll see how long Iā€™m able to keep the creative juices flowing. Quarantineā€™s got me all fucked up, but at least itā€™s given me time to waste on Tumblr. Enjoy :)
Tumblr media
Steve was angry. He was fucking pissed off, to be exact and it was all because of you. You knew it, felt the way his eyes drilled holes in your back all night. You could practically sense him fuming from across the club, even though the darkness as a result of the smoke machine near the spinning table engulfed you and the 150 other people in the room.Ā
Of course, it was Tonyā€™s idea to rent one of the fanciest clubs in NYC for the night. Youā€™d completed a very big mission just a few weeks ago, and after everyone had time to heal in the medical bay and file the appropriate paperwork, the case was closed at last, and he insisted on a celebration unlike any other.Ā
Bottles of champagne flowed across the dancefloor. Sweaty bodies of special agents, paper pushers from the lowest possible level and Avengers alike, all pressed up against each other in the room hotter than what you imagined hell to be like. You didnā€™t even fucking feel like going when Tony first proposed the idea, but everybody knew you couldnā€™t say no to him. Nobody could say no to him and his lavish parties. Not to mention the fact that you never wanted to go and yet you always managed to be the last to leave. You blamed the alcohol.Ā
Heā€™d hired the best DJ in town. His tunes kept you on your feet despite the fact that they were starting to get sore, hips swaying sensually to the music in between Natasha and some random level 3 agent whose name you couldnā€™t remember for the life of you. He was just as tall as you in your patent leather Louboutins, his hair swept carelessly to one side. He clearly hadnā€™t changed after work, because he still had his SHIELD pin mended to his breast pocket. Youā€™d just pulled his tie to drag him closer to you, which earned another hard glare from Steve. Everybody in the fucking room knew you were his, they didnā€™t even dare to come close to you, but this guy was clearly wasted and youā€™d initiated it.Ā
You could feel level 3ā€²s dick through his pants while he continued to grind against your ass, just as you did to Natasha. You smiled, bopping your head along to the song, your curly hair bouncing lusciously up and down. A quick glance towards the bar made you snicker soundlessly, afraid heā€™d be able to hear you despite the loud music and people singing along. The thought of him being able to smell the perfume on your skin, his favorite, from all the way over there made your heart flutter and your stomach tighten.
He looked fucking good. Hair slicked back, deep red button-down loosened at the top tucked tightly into dark denim. He hadnā€™t shaved, he knew damn well how much you liked that, and his eyes werenā€™t so blue anymore in the strobe lights that illuminated him every twenty seconds. They looked black as if his pupils had bled into his irises.
Youā€™d put effort into your appearance too, he could tell in an instant. Your lipgloss sparkled the same as the diamond necklace he had given you that hung around your neck. He remembered buying it for you, eyes nearly rolling out of his fucking skull when the guy that helped him pick it out told him the price. Your dress, black and short, had a split so high he was certain he could see your pussy if you made a wrong move, meaning level 3 could see it too.Ā
He downed another glass of scotch, slamming it down on the bar with a growl so low only Bucky could hear it. He shook his head at his friend, who also refused to get on the dancefloor. The way 21st-century people danced was unlike anything they were used to seeing back in their day. He couldnā€™t get drunk, but Steve could taste the alcohol on his tongue and the warmth of it in the back of his throat when he gulped another glass down. He hadnā€™t even noticed Bucky left him for Bruce, who also wasnā€™t dancing. Didnā€™t give a fuck, either way. All he had eyes for was you, showing off his money like it was yours, to begin with.Ā
You didnā€™t do that often. You were humble, wore jeans and a t-shirt on most days, didnā€™t indulge much. You tried to live sustainably where possible through recycling and cruelty-free beauty products.Ā Hell, Steve had only actually seen you wear the necklace a handful of times, including your auntā€™s wedding just to piss her off and make her jealous. He knew you had money too, it was a perk of being an Avenger, but spending money on yourself wasnā€™t the same as lavish gifts from your handsome as fuck boyfriend. Besides, you donated a lot of it to animal shelters and safe houses for women.Ā
ā€œThe partyā€™s out there, you know?ā€
You gulped, skin-crawling in fear when Steve appeared out of the bathroom stall without warning. How long heā€™d been hiding the bathroom you didnā€™t know, but he knew it was you the second you pushed open the door and stepped inside.Ā
He could smell that guy on you as you stood in front of him, cheeks red from dancing and stray hairs sticking out from the sea of curls. It made his fists curl, his brow crease. He was mad as hell.Ā
ā€œYou scared me,ā€ you said exasperatedly, blood rushing to your cheeks when he stepped out of the shadows and into view.
He didnā€™t smile back to you, which told you exactly how the night was going to go down.Ā
ā€œYou havinā€™ fun?ā€ He asked, walking around you in a circle after you stepped away from the dirty mirror.Ā
He wanted to drink you in, take in your appearance while you still looked put together. Soon enough, the charade would be over and heā€™d have your make up smeared, clothes on the floor and your hair a mess.Ā
ā€œYeah,ā€ you smirked, ā€œyou?ā€
ā€œNot yet,ā€ he growled in your ear, ā€œbut I will.ā€
Heā€™d disappeared as quickly as heā€™d appeared, leaving you leaning against the dusty sink, breathing deeply in and out through your nose. When you trusted in your ability to stand up without tripping over your own feet, you grabbed your lipgloss from your purse, along with your perfume, of which you added two more spritzes. You didnā€™t want him to know how easily he was able to get to you, how easily he was able to make you shake.Ā
He had a plan, concocted it while drinking expensive scotch at the bar. Steve came up with it while he was watching you grind on another man. He knew why you did it, you wanted to get a rise out of him, and getting a rise out of him was exactly what you did. Of course, he could do the same to you, which is why he left you stumbling in the bathroom with nothing but a promise he intended to keep.
You returned to the floor after getting another vodka sprite from the other end of the bar. He noticed how empty your wrist was and told himself heā€™d buy you a diamond bracelet to match the necklace. Youā€™d like that. Heā€™d fuck you raw and stupid after giving it to you, just like he did when he gave you the necklace.Ā
Even when you were starting to get a buzz, you could still feel his fucking eyes on you, never leaving your swaying hips, bouncing tits and shaking ass. For a moment, the two of you made eye contact. Instantly, you knew you were screwed. You could read him like a book.Ā
ā€œSteve,ā€ you gasped when his hands tightly gripped your waist suddenly, ā€œyouā€™re dancing.ā€
He was on the dancefloor, yeah, but the man was hardly dancing. The only thing he was moving was his hips against your ass. He didnā€™t need to tell Level 3ā€²s sorry ass to fuck off, the look on his face had the young man scrambling away in fear immediately. Natasha had left minutes before, busying herself with the hottest bartender in the club while he poured her a dirty martini with five olives.
ā€œWhat the fuck do you think youā€™re doing?ā€ He whispered in your ear, lips pushing against soft flesh. His beard scratched your throat, sending delicious tingles down your entire spine.
ā€œWhat do you mean?ā€ You asked, pretending to be oblivious,Ā ā€œIā€™m not doing anything.ā€Ā Ā
Steveā€™s hand caressed your hip, snaking around the front to touch your barely clothed pussy. Your cheeks reddened, eyes frantically searching for anyone who might be watching but finding none. Everyone around you was either drunk or making out.Ā
ā€œWhat are you doing Steve?!ā€ You hissed, biting your tongue, ā€œSomeone might see us.ā€Ā
ā€œI donā€™t care. This is what you wanted, isnā€™t it?ā€ he asked, kissing the side of your face and neck,Ā ā€œit is, I know it.ā€
He dragged you out of the club and into his BMW, harshly securing your seatbelt before getting behind the wheel. His knuckles were white against the steering wheel the entire drive, and you could see him straining against his pants. You didnā€™t say anything, the only sound audible being the angrily revving engine of his car. He was flooring it the whole way there, ignoring red lights and swerving around every car on the road that was in his way.Ā
ā€œSee how it feels when you tease me,ā€ he mumbled, ā€œyouā€™re gonna be fucking sorry real soon.ā€
ā€œNo,ā€ you stammered, ā€œplease.ā€
He sat down on the bed, grabbing your wrists and yanking you down over his lap. You kicked your heels in the air in an attempt to get free from his iron grasp, but he only needed one hand to restrain you while the other traveled up the back of your legs so slowly it made you want to cry. His hand disappeared under your dress and found no panties, just as he expected. He knew you too well.Ā
ā€œYouā€™re real bad, arenā€™t you?ā€ He asked, retrieving his hand back so he could pull the dress up to expose your naked pussy,Ā ā€œdid you think I was gonna let you get away with what you just did to me?ā€Ā
ā€œI didnā€™t do anything!ā€ you mewled,Ā ā€œI swear.ā€Ā
ā€œGrinding up on that guy all night? Letting him touch you in front of me? How dare you?ā€
He caressed your ass, tracing his fingers over your lips before smacking both cheeks without warning. You squirmed, wiggling on top of him. Youā€™d seen him angry before but only on rare occasions; either when he was chasing after bad guys, or when youā€™d pissed him off and this time, youā€™d pissed him off real good. Just like you wanted to do.Ā
ā€œDonā€™t you dare move against my dick,ā€ he said with a tug on your hair, ā€œor you donā€™t get to cum.ā€
He plunged three fingers into your mouth, silently ordering you to suck on them while he continued to keep your wrists bound. You already knew what was going to happen and it took every ounce of strength for you not to move. He chuckled when you nibbled on his fingers, coating each and every one of the three with your saliva.Ā
He plunged them into you without warning. You cried out, unable to stop yourself from trying to break from his grip on you. You were already wet, probably didnā€™t even need the saliva, but it helped his fingers glide in so easily it made him want to laugh. You were putty in his hands and he knew it. How the hell had he gone from being little, insecure, baby Steve to this man, this unrelenting, unforgiving force of a man?Ā
ā€œShut up,ā€ he growled, picking up the pace,Ā ā€œdid I tell you you could make noise?ā€
ā€œN-no,ā€ you stammered,Ā ā€œno Steve.ā€Ā
His fingers left your cunt before you could properly enjoy it. You knew why he did it; he was getting you ready for his cock. Youā€™d had it countless times in places you couldnā€™t even recall, had it gently and so hard you couldnā€™t talk after, but you always needed time to adjust.
He grabbed ahold of your legs with his slick-coated fingers and picked you up, effortlessly tossing you onto the bed like a ragdoll. You heaved, hair already beginning to stick to your forehead while you watched him slowly unbutton his shirt.
ā€œWhat do I keep telling you about pissing me off, huh?ā€ He taunted, slipping the shirt over his broad shoulders.
ā€œI told you not to do that,ā€ his pants were next, falling limply at his feet after he unzipped and unbuttoned them,Ā ā€œbut you donā€™t listen. You donā€™t listen because you like what happens when Iā€™m mad, donā€™t you?ā€Ā
ā€œNo, Iā€™m sorry,ā€ you breathed, gazing up at him through fake eyelashes,Ā ā€œI didnā€™t mean to-ā€
You werenā€™t sorry. You enjoyed this, this side of Steve. Loved it even, how sometimes, he was able to let go of his own righteousness and give in to his darkness. It had taken almost a year of being in a vanilla relationship for him to show you this side of him, and youā€™d ached for it ever since. You did it on purpose, grinding with other people, dressing up in clothing inappropriate for the occasion. Short skirts, tight blouses, and fuck, those sheer black stockings with the black stripe running along the back of your heel to your panties. Short shorts and cropped tops in the summer, so short they nearly showed off your fucking tits. He hated it because men worldwide couldnā€™t help but look at you even though you were his and his alone. You were his prized possession.Ā
ā€œDonā€™t lie to me.ā€
ā€œYou know,ā€ you answered smugly,Ā ā€œI could feel his erection on my ass the whole time.ā€Ā
Steve growled, pushing your back into the mattress before starting towards you.Ā  Ā
ā€œI told you what happens when you make me angry,ā€ he said, lowering himself onto the bed until he was straddling you, one leg on each side of your trembling hips,Ā ā€œyou know what happens, donā€™t you?ā€Ā
ā€œYes, Steve,ā€ you moaned, rocking your hips up against him.Ā
You gripped his bicep, but once again, he used his hand to bind your wrists, this time holding them above your head,Ā ā€œYou gonna be good for me and apologize?ā€Ā
ā€œYes,ā€ you cried out,Ā ā€œIā€™m sorry!ā€Ā
You still werenā€™t. In fact, you had to fight the urge to grin. You had him right where you wanted him, despite his hold on you. You wanted him to fuck you until you couldnā€™t see straight and he was going to give it to you either way.Ā
He let go of you, hands traveling across the diamonds around your neck. He ripped the necklace from your throat in one single motion, earning a gasp and a loudĀ ā€˜what the fuck?!ā€™Ā from you when it snapped in half. He tossed it to the ground as if it was trash, discarding it like it hadnā€™t cost him the price of a house.Ā
ā€œDaddyā€™s gonna buy you a whole lot more diamonds if youā€™re good,ā€ he whispered,Ā ā€œIs that what gets your little pussy dripping? Me spending my hard-earned money on you? Answer me!ā€
ā€œFuck yes,ā€ you replied,Ā ā€œshoes, too. And a car.ā€Ā
He laughed, taking your clothed tits and rubbing them before ripping the silk dress in half with his bare hands.
ā€œWhat do you need a car for? You donā€™t even drive. I do. Iā€™m like your fucking private chauffeur, always driving you around.ā€ He was right about that.Ā Ā
You smirked,Ā ā€œwant you to fuck me in it.ā€
Steve began to grow tired of your mind games. His dick was hard as granite, as were his bulging muscles, and he needed a release fast. Heā€™d go back to being sweet old Steve after he got what he wanted, but for now, he was a man in heat, needing to take what was rightfully his. One of the busted diamonds pierced the skin on your ass when you found yourself laying on it, but you didnā€™t care. You welcomed the sting.
Steve rolled you over until you were on your stomach. With one arm around your throat in a chokehold, he lifted up your body, taking you in a position that could almost be classified as Doggystyle. He lined himself up with your entrance, enjoying the lovely sight and the sweet smell of your pussy dripping just for him. Your love for him was like a fucking disease and unfortunately, it turned out to be terminal. You ached with anticipation while he dragged the head of his cock along your entrance, back and forth between your pussy lips.Ā
The air was taken from your lungs when he shoved himself inside you, not wasting any time with pleasantries and soft-spoken words. He bit down on your shoulder, earning a loud moan to escape your lips. He wasnā€™t gentle, this wasnā€™t making love, but it was what you both desired and he was more than happy to give it to you.Ā
You whined breathlessly, pussy clenching around the length of his cock as he drove into you.
ā€œCouldā€™ve just told me you wanted me to fuck you,ā€ he groaned,Ā ā€œā€™stead of makinā€™ me all mad at Tonyā€™s party.ā€
You wanted to tell him off and if you would, heā€™d probably have to tell you you were right because he never did this unless he had a reason, but your mouth remained shut instead. Steve was a softy at all times, sweet and gentle and a true gentleman, except for when you brought out the beast in him.Ā
He grabbed your hair, yanking it so your body stood flush against his. You could feel him, every inch of his marvelous abs expanding and contracting and his hips, slapping against your ass with each thrust. You arched your back into him, exposing your neck to his lips. He began to suck on your skin immediately, leaving marks that would last for days on your beautifully soft skin. This pulled another sinful moan from your glossy lips.Ā
You turned your head, forcing his head towards your face with your free hand while the other grasped the one on your hip. You kissed him hard, lips and teeth and tongues crashing together. You could taste the scotch on his breath and he caught a whiff of your strawberry lip gloss. You smiled into his mouth, taking his bottom lip between your teeth and biting down on his skin. Theyā€™d see the bruise in the morning, although come afternoon, the serum wouldā€™ve taken care of it. You hoped somebody would see.Ā
ā€œGoddamnit,ā€ he cursed after tasting blood, hand around your hair loosening before sliding down the length of your body in search of your clit,Ā ā€œgonna make you cum so hard you can only say my name.ā€
He wiped the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand and slapped your ass with it before resting it on your hip so he could get a better grip.Ā
You whimpered when his fingers made contact, another moan drawn from you when he began to rub the sensitive bud forcefully. You couldnā€™t hold on much longer.Ā
ā€œWant you to say it,ā€ he ordered,Ā ā€œsay my name. Say it right now.ā€
ā€œSteve,ā€ you cried out so loud you were sure whoever had the room next to his could hear,Ā ā€œoh, fuck Steve!ā€
ā€œDonā€™t stop,ā€ he rubbed faster,Ā ā€œkeep saying it. Gonna fuck my name from your brain, fuck it right out.ā€Ā
ā€œSteve,ā€ you squeaked,Ā ā€œSteve, Steve, Steve.ā€Ā
You grabbed the wrist of the hand on your clit and dug your nails into his skin, whining his name over and over until you couldnā€™t stand the tightening of your stomach any longer.
ā€œDonā€™t stop saying it,ā€ he commanded,Ā ā€œI didnā€™t give you permission to stop.ā€Ā
Ā You did as told while he continued to ram his cock deep into you, grunts escaping from his lips while he pounded into you at an unforgiving pace. Your throat would be sore in the morning, but you didnā€™t stop, chanting his name over and over like a prayer.Ā Ā
ā€œYou gonna cum all over my dick, huh?ā€ He throbbed inside of you, panting harshly against your lips.
ā€œWant you to cum inside me, Steve,ā€ you dug your nails into him,Ā ā€œgive me your fucking cum right now.ā€Ā
ā€œFuck,ā€ he groaned,Ā ā€œIā€™m gonna give you my fucking cum.ā€
You loved drawing profanities from a man who didnā€™t curse. It was like a game to you, seeing how many curses you could squeeze out of Americaā€™s golden boy before heā€™d collapse on top of you. You loved how dirty he could be behind closed doors, loved the contrast between the sweet and gentle Steve that held your hand in public and this monster of a man who bought you expensive things and fucked you senseless with his thick cock afterward. He loved it too, didnā€™t even know it until you pissed him off for real one time and it just happened out of the blue, but after that, he hadnā€™t looked back. It came so naturally, he was afraid of himself sometimes, but then heā€™d see that blissful sheen, that fucked out look on your face and the smile you wore just for him and he was instantly reminded of why he did it.Ā
Because it felt good.Ā
You already knew youā€™d be bruised when youā€™d wake up next to him in the morning from the way his fingers grasped you tightly, but you loved it, knowing you carried his markings under your clothing and you were sure he loved it too.Ā
He didnā€™t stop, not even when youā€™re moaning his name so loud itā€™s almost deafening. He didnā€™t stop when your pussy clenched painfully around his dick, didnā€™tĀ stop when you began to tremble and shake so hard he thought you were having a fucking fit. You started moving away from him in an attempt to ease the overbearing sensation of his fingers still forcefully rubbing on your clit, but he simply yanked you back against him, sweat-covered biceps flexing while his thrusts became so sloppy he could hardly stay upright. You gripped the headboard so tight you thought it would splinter.Ā
His cum shot up into you in hot spurts, coating your walls in it while he rode out his orgasm. His hand finally left your pussy, allowing you to breathe in what felt like ages.
ā€œJesus,ā€ the drawl of his voice sounded like music to your ears,Ā ā€œyouā€™re gonna be the death of me.ā€Ā
Smiling sweetly at the man beside you, you pressed your lips softly to his burning cheek. Then, you rested your head on his shoulder, allowing his arm to engulf you and pull you flush to his heaving body. You sure managed to cause Captain America to work up a sweat.Ā
He inspected the purple spots on your neck and looked down, eyes scanning the dark red marks on your hips that were there to stay for at least a few days. Heā€™d learned to accept them, to love them, but he hated the idea of hurting you at first. You had to remind him each time that you were completely okay with it, that it didnā€™t actually hurt in a bad way.Ā
ā€œIā€™m sorry about the diamonds,ā€ he offered, looking at the discarded Cartier on the floor,Ā ā€œand the dress.ā€Ā
ā€œShould be,ā€ you mumbled, eyes closing at the sound of his heartbeat in your ear,Ā ā€œthose werenā€™t cheap.ā€Ā
It wasnā€™t even your money that just went to waste. Hell, they could probably fix it up at the store, but that wasnā€™t a part of the game. It wasnā€™t good enough.
ā€œIā€™ll buy you new ones,ā€ he kissed your forehead,Ā ā€œI told you I would.ā€
The next day, he did indeed buy you a new diamond necklace. And a diamond bracelet. And earrings.Ā
Now, all you needed was a ring to match.Ā

Marriage and Murder Pt. 1 (Shelby!Reader)
Tumblr media
a/n: I'm a bit disappointed I had to post this in two parts, but alas, the original one-shot was too long for Tumblr.
summary: Things get progressively darker as you try to survive Tommy and Grace's wedding night.
words: 3101
warnings: Themes of drinking and sexual assault.
Ā "(y/n), for fuck's sake, hurry up!" Polly shouted from the betting room. She, Ada, Finn, John, and Esme were dressed in formal clothes, waiting for you to get ready.
Ā Ā "Five minutes, Pol!" you called from your bedroom.
Ā Ā "I swear to God," your aunt said under her breath as she checked her watch. "It's her own brother's wedding and she's decided to take her sweet time."
Ā Ā "What's taking her so long anyway?" Finn asked, bored to death.
Ā Ā "She probably looks ugly as hell and can't stand to face it," John whispered, earning a chuckle from Finn and a smack to the back of the head from Ada.Ā
Ā Ā "I don't care š˜øš˜©š˜¢š˜µ she's doing, if that girl's not down here soon we're leaving without her." Polly huffed.
Ā Ā What Polly and the others didn't understand was that you were by š˜Æš˜° means taking your sweet time. If anything, you were practically tripping over yourself to try and find a dress to wear to Tommy and Grace's wedding. You'd accidentally ripped the dress you were supposed to wear the night before when you'd gotten your arm stuck in one of the sleeves. Now, you were caught between a rock and a hard place; go downstairs and face humiliation, or stay in your room and face Polly. You could tell today was going to be stressful.
Ā Ā You were legitimately considering cutting off the sleeves of your dress entirely when Polly came bursting into the room without warning.
Ā Ā "Pol, wait!" you shouted, instinctively holding your arms in front of your head for self-defense.
Ā Ā "I don't give a shit if you're ready or not, we're going," Polly growled. She grabbed your arm, unknowingly pulling at the rip in your dress. With one strong yank, your aunt had doubled the size of the tear. The two of you froze in shock at the damaged material.
Ā Ā "š˜‘š˜¦š˜“š˜¶š˜“, (y/n)," Polly muttered.
Ā Ā "I know, it's awful." you sighed.
Ā Ā As you stood there, Finn peeked his head into your room. Immediately, he saw your dress and gasped.
Ā Ā "š˜š˜°š˜š˜ŗ š˜“š˜©š˜Ŗš˜µ, (y/n)." Finn chuckled. "What the hell did you do?"
Ā Ā "Go away!" you shouted angrily. You grabbed one of your shoes and chucked it at your brother, hitting him in the shoulder. He stumbled out of the room laughing.
Ā Ā You threw yourself face-first onto your bed in utter despair, sighing dramatically.
Ā Ā "Oh, Pol, this'll be the death of me," you whined, your voice muffled by the covers. Your aunt rolled her eyes as she lit a cigarette.
Ā Ā "Stop feeling sorry for yourself," Polly spoke. "We'll figure something out."
Ā Ā It wasn't long before Ada and Esme had made their way upstairs and into your room. The four of you sat in silence, quietly brainstorming. Suddenly, Esme stood up.
Ā Ā "I've got a dress that might work," she said, and immediately rushed to go fetch it. Your face lit up, and you excitedly hopped off your bed to go with your sister-in-law. Ada and Polly exchanged glances.
Ā Ā You followed Esme into her and John's old room, where she was digging through her closet.
Ā Ā "Now, (y/n), you're a bit smaller than I am, so hopefully this won't look too awkward on you," Esme said, tossing clothes in every direction.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
Ā Ā "Now, if only I could find the damn thing."
Ā Ā "What's it look like?" you asked.
Ā Ā "See for yourself," Esme responded, pulling out a green shapeless dress with beaded lace embroidery.
Ā Ā You gawked at the beauty of the thing; it was an excellent balance of elegance and youth. Not too modest, not too sexy; it was superbly tasteful.
Ā "Oh my God, Esme, it's perfect." you breathed.Ā
Ā Ā "Hurry up and try it on!" she urged, pushing the dress into your arms. With that, she rushed out of her room.
Ā Ā To your relief, the dress fit perfectly. You barely had any time to show it off to the others before Polly had rushed everyone out of the house and into the cramped car, practically dragging you all by the wrists.Ā
Ā Ā The five of you slipped into the chapel quietly as you could. Tommy gave you all dirty looks as you scooted into the pews one by one.Ā
Ā Ā "Where the fuck've you been?" Arthur whispered to Polly as she sat down next to him.
Ā Ā "There was a complication," Polly answered. "Nothing worth worrying about now."
Ā Ā "Complication my arse. š˜›š˜©š˜Ŗš˜“ one took forever to get changed." John scoffed, pointing his thumb towards you.
Ā Ā "It wasn't my fault, the dress ripped!" you whined.Ā
Ā Ā "It was š˜¤š˜°š˜®š˜±š˜š˜¦š˜µš˜¦š˜š˜ŗ your fault, (y/n)," Finn added smugly.
Ā Ā "I swear to God if you three don't š˜“š˜©š˜¶š˜µ š˜¶š˜± I'll drag you all home by the ears." Polly threatened under her breath. Nobody had anything to say about your dress after that.
Ā Ā John grumbled as Grace entered the chapel.
Ā Ā "Here come the fucking cavalry, late as usual." he griped.
Ā Ā "I don't get it, why's everyone hate them?" you asked in a whisper.
Ā Ā "Well, first of all, they weren't supposed to wear their uniforms. Just goes to show they're disrespectful bastards." John whispered back.
Ā Ā "š˜™š˜¦š˜¢š˜š˜š˜ŗ? That's all it is?" you questioned.
Ā Ā John sighed as he tried to find the right words for the situation.
Ā Ā "Listen, (y/n), just stay away from them. Half those men are self-righteous pricks who'll take advantage of you if you give 'em the chance," he warned.
Ā "Hush." Esme chimed in, squeezing John's hand. "They're exchanging vows."
Ā Ā Your gaze turned to the men in red uniform as Tommy and Grace stood at the altar. You accidentally locked eyes with a boy who couldn't have been older than twenty. Not sure what to do, you smiled politely at him. To your surprise, he smiled back.
Ā Ā Ā Your exchange was cut off by the sound of Jeremiah Jesus's voice filling the room.
Ā Ā "I now pronounce you man and wife." he declared, and everyone in the chapel applauded as Tommy and Grace shared a kiss. You couldn't help but feel a pang of pride as you watched your brother smile at his new wife. There was something magical about the way he was able to just š˜³š˜¦š˜š˜¢š˜¹ in her presence, especially since you couldn't think of another day Tommy wasn't trying to take over Birmingham.
Ā Ā š˜–š˜©, š˜›š˜°š˜®, you thought wistfully, š˜øš˜©š˜ŗ š˜¤š˜¢š˜Æ'š˜µ š˜ŗš˜°š˜¶ š˜£š˜¦ š˜š˜Ŗš˜¬š˜¦ š˜µš˜©š˜Ŗš˜“ š˜¢š˜š˜ š˜µš˜©š˜¦ š˜µš˜Ŗš˜®š˜¦?
Ā Ā Ā Unfortunately, the warmth of the wedding ceremony quickly faded as everyone gathered outside for the family photo. Nearly ten minutes went by as the Shelby clan struggled to organize themselves into a tight group.
Ā Ā Ā You initially tried to stand behind Polly and Arthur to be near the other women, but that plan quickly failed when you realized you were too short to stand behind either of them. It was a tremendous effort to try to force yourself in between them, and the result left you in a painfully awkward position where you were left standing sideways. The ultimate solution was to have you stand with John's children; you were mortified.
Ā Ā "Christ, I look like a š˜¬š˜Ŗš˜„," you whined, showing the picture to Finn. The two of you sat together at the base of the stairs in Tommy's house, trying your best to avoid the crowds of people wandering the halls..
Ā Ā "It's not that big a deal," he said plainly, taking the picture in his hands. "Nobody really cares."
Ā Ā "It's a big deal to me." you mumbled.
Ā Ā Ā You could see John and Arthur approaching from a distance. By the looks of it, they'd already gotten their hands on some champagne.
Ā Ā "Finn. Tommy wants a meeting in the kitchen." Arthur spoke as he passed by.
Ā Ā "I should probably go with him." Finn sighed as he stood up.
Ā Ā "Wait, take me with you!" you pleaded, grabbing onto his arm. "I've got nobody else to talk to."
Ā Ā Finn quickly leaned over the stairs to check if Arthur and John had gone. Once he saw the coast was clear, he turned back to you.
Ā Ā "Fine. But you shouldn't say anything," he advised.
Ā Ā "Wasn't planning on it."
Ā Ā You and Finn had assumed the meeting would be family only, but as you snuck your way into the kitchen you were surprised to find a swarm of Blinders men crowding the room. You instinctively stuck close to your brother, trying your best to avoid bumping into anyone. The two of you slowly hovered towards the center of the room, where the immediate family gathered. There Tommy stood in the midst of it all with a cigar in his hands.Ā
Ā Ā Ā "Right. Today is my wedding day." he began, and the room fell silent.
Ā Ā Ā "Yeah, and you said there'd be no uniforms, Tom." John interrupted, and a few people murmured in agreement.
Ā Ā "In spite of there being bad blood, I'll have none of it on my carpet." Tommy continued, ignoring John's comment. "For Grace's sake, nothing will go wrong today."
Ā Ā Ā Tommy began circling the room as he spoke, making sure to lock eyes with every man present.
Ā Ā "And if any of you fuckers do š˜¢š˜Æš˜ŗš˜µš˜©š˜Ŗš˜Æš˜Ø to embarrass her, kin, cousins, your kids, your horses, š˜¢š˜Æš˜ŗš˜µš˜©š˜Ŗš˜Æš˜Ø.."
Ā Ā Just as he was about to finish his sentence, Tommy noticed you standing there next to Finn. He froze for a moment, then furrowed his brows. You cursed under your breath.
Ā Ā "What are you doing here?" Tommy asked, but it felt more like an accusation.
Ā Ā Ā You realized every man in the room had their eyes on you. You shifted uncomfortably.
Ā Ā "It's a family meeting, isn't it?" you grumbled. "Last I checked I was a Shelby."
Ā Ā Ā Tommy sighed deeply and rubbed his eyes in annoyance.
Ā Ā "š˜ š˜°š˜¶ š˜¬š˜Æš˜°š˜ø š˜øš˜©š˜¢š˜µ? I'm glad you're here because there's something I should say." he began. You crossed your arms defensively.
Ā Ā "You've been wild these past few months, (y/n), don't think I haven't noticed."
Ā Ā "So?" you scoffed.
Ā Ā "š˜šš˜°, I won't have any of it tonight. I swear, if I find out you've been drinking, flirting, or doing š˜¢š˜Æš˜ŗš˜µš˜©š˜Ŗš˜Æš˜ØĀ  that might damage this family's reputation, I assure you that you'll live to regret it. š˜‹š˜° š˜ŗš˜°š˜¶ š˜¶š˜Æš˜„š˜¦š˜³š˜“š˜µš˜¢š˜Æš˜„?"
Ā Ā You didn't know how to feel about Tommy's words. In a way, he was right; you'd been drinking more than usual as of late, not to mention fooling around with some of the boys you were going to school with. You didn't understand why that was such a big deal though, especially since you were a saint compared to your brothers. Really, the whole thing seemed unfair.
Ā Ā "Yeah, I understand." you finally answered. "I'll just spend the night boring myself to death while you boys do whatever you want."Ā
Ā Ā "That's the spirit." he shot back.
Ā Ā "Tommy, what about snow?" Isiah asked from across the room. You silently thanked him for taking the attention off you.
Ā Ā "There'll be no cocaine," Tommy answered sternly. A few men in the room sighed.
Ā Ā Tommy took the opportunity to get back to his speech.
Ā Ā "No sport. No racing. No sucking the petrol out of their cars. You give them š˜Æš˜° excuses to look down their noses."
Ā Ā The room was uneasy. Nobody was sure what to think as Tommy stood there, almost desperately trying to talk sense into his men.
Ā Ā "But the main thing is, you fuckers.." he began.
Ā Ā "Why are you mad at š˜¶š˜“, Tom?" Finn mumbled.
Ā Ā "..in spite of provocation from the cavalry.."
Ā Ā Tommy walked along the line of men standing around him, getting close to Arthur, then John, then Finn, then finally you.
Ā Ā "..no fighting. š˜•š˜° š˜§š˜¶š˜¤š˜¬š˜Ŗš˜Æš˜Ø š˜§š˜Ŗš˜Øš˜©š˜µš˜Ŗš˜Æš˜Ø!"Ā
Ā Ā And with that, everyone was sent out of the kitchen.
Ā Ā The party started slow, and you found yourself wandering around the house aimlessly with nothing to do. Everywhere you went people were already drinking, and a part of you wanted nothing more than to join them. The other, more sensible part remembered Tommy's warning and decided to avoid alcohol for the night. As much as you wanted to piss him off and indulge yourself, you knew getting drunk would only prove that you were irresponsible.Ā
Ā Ā Dinner in the great hall was an absolute disaster. You sat between Finn and Ada, who were both caught up in their own conversations. You were starving, and Tommy and Grace had been taking a suspiciously long amount of time to get ready. Even after they'd finally come downstairs, Arthur had to get through his speech before anyone could eat.
Ā Ā "Now, I'm not one for speeches." Arthur began. The poor man looked like a deer trapped in headlights.
Ā Ā "Sing then!" John shouted. Esme grabbed his arm wearily.
Ā Ā "I've got a speech written down here. but it's not everything I want to say." Arthur droned on. You buried your head in your hands.
Ā Ā "Arthur, just read what we've written down," Tommy said softly.
Ā Ā "I will, Tom. But first, a few words from the heart."Ā
Ā Ā Arthur gently placed the small piece of paper into one of his pockets, then cleared his throat.
Ā Ā Ā "š˜š˜¶š˜¤š˜¬." Tommy breathed.
Ā Ā Ā "I'd just like to say that my brother helped me survive hard times. Trouble in my head.."
Ā Ā As Arthur gave his speech, you noticed Polly staring at a man who sat opposite her. He was older than she was and wore a dark suit that matched his serious expression.
Ā Ā "Who's that?" You leaned over and whispered to Ada.
Ā Ā "Kaledin something," she whispered back. "Don't bother talking politics with him, I've already tried."
Ā Ā Unlike Ada, you weren't interested in having political debates with strangers. Still, there was an air of mystery surrounding the man. Something about him made it impossible to look away, even when he met your eyes with his. You felt a shiver run down your spine.
Ā Ā Arthur's trainwreck of a speech was eventually cut short by Tommy. You felt bad for your eldest brother, but you were desperate to eat. Polly gave you a disapproving look as you scarfed down your food, but you didn't care; you were too hungry to act like a lady.
Ā Ā An hour had passed since the food was served, and by then everyone had made their way into the ballroom.
Ā Ā John and Arthur had set up a boxing area outside with Tommy's reluctant permission. After hovering around Polly for nearly half an hour, you finally gave in and went outside to watch the fights.Ā Ā
Ā Ā You were used to seeing your brothers fight, so not much could faze you in the boxing ring. Tonight was different, though. The men had such anger in them as they landed their punches. It was almost disturbing to watch Finn get knocked into the ground by a man in a red uniform.
Ā Ā "Gruesome, isn't it?" A voice asked from behind you. You turned around to face the very same cavalry boy you'd locked eyes within the chapel. Only now, he was standing a mere foot away from you and the two of you were practically alone.
Ā Ā Ā "William. Fraser." the young man said, extending his hand.
Ā Ā You took his hand in yours and shook it. The dim light from the boxing ring illuminated your faces, and you were able to get good looks at each other. To your excitement, not only was he young, he was š˜©š˜¢š˜Æš˜„š˜“š˜°š˜®š˜¦.
Ā Ā "(y/n). Lee." you introduced yourself, lying through your teeth. You were done being a Shelby today.
Ā Ā "Mm. I thought you were a gypsy." William spoke. You raised your eyebrows in amusement.
Ā Ā "Really? How could you tell?" you asked.
Ā "It's the dress. Very... š˜£š˜°š˜©š˜¦š˜®š˜Ŗš˜¢š˜Æ," he replied.
Ā "It was a gift, it's not mine," you assured, flattening the dress out. You suddenly felt a pang of self-consciousness.
Ā Ā "Oh, well it suits you well enough." And with that, William placed his hand on your waist.Ā
Ā Ā Ā "What are you doing?" you asked, chuckling nervously.Ā
Ā Ā "Enjoying myself."
Ā Ā He slowly started to pull you into a kiss when you noticed Finn in the boxing ring. Another one of the cavalry boys had landed a particularly heavy blow onto his gut, and he fell onto the ground in defeat. You pushed William away to watch the scene.
Ā Ā "You know him?" William asked.
Ā Ā "He's my brother," you responded quietly, not taking eyes off Finn.
Ā Ā "He fights well enough for a boy his size, I didn't expect him to last as long as he did." William retorted.
Ā Ā "He's really good, actually. Likes it a lot, too," you said, relaxing as you saw Finn get up and shake his opponent's hand.
Ā Ā William took the opportunity to pick up where you left off and started to wrap his arms around your waist. You hesitated and stepped back.
Ā Ā "Wait, we shouldn't. Not in front of them." you gestured towards the crowds of people who were watching the fights.
Ā Ā "Good point." the young man hummed into your neck.
Ā Ā You lead William to a fairly secluded area of the gardens. There was a small, wooden bench that was nestled in between some of the bushes that lined the back wall of Tommy's mansion. The two of you sat together; there was an uncomfortable sexual tension between you.
ļæ½ļæ½Ā William kissed you slowly as his hands wandered around your torso. You kept trying to cut him off, but he was persistent. If you would grab his arm, he would use the other one to pull you closer. If you turned away, he would kiss your neck.Ā
Ā Ā "William I don't think we should do this," you whispered.
Ā Ā "Don't worry, love. nobody's around. You won't get in trouble." he assured.
Ā Ā "š˜—š˜š˜¦š˜¢š˜“š˜¦, just stop." you pleaded.
Ā Ā "Relax, I promise I'll make it worth your while.
Ā Ā With that, you'd had enough. You started smacking your palm against his shoulder, and he finally separated.Ā
Ā Ā "š˜žš˜©š˜¢š˜µ? I thought you wanted this!" William snapped.
Ā Ā "Why didn't you stop?" you asked him with a hurt look on your face. "I was š˜µš˜¦š˜š˜š˜Ŗš˜Æš˜Ø you to stop!"
Ā Ā Ā "š˜Šš˜°š˜®š˜¦ š˜°š˜Æ, don't act like you didn't want it. You took me out here for a reason." he countered.
Ā Ā "I didn't think it would happen so fast!" you shouted.
Ā William huffed, stood up, then brushed himself off.
Ā Ā "š˜Žš˜ŗš˜±š˜“š˜ŗ š˜£š˜Ŗš˜µš˜¤š˜©." he spat, then walked away.
Ā Ā "What the š˜§š˜¶š˜¤š˜¬ did you call me?" you shot back. "Do you even know who the š˜©š˜¦š˜š˜ I am?"
Ā Ā Ā William froze in place and turned around. He gave you a dark look as he lit a cigarette. The red glow of the tiny embers illuminated his face.
Ā Ā "My name is (y/n) š˜§š˜¶š˜¤š˜¬š˜Ŗš˜Æš˜Ø Shelby." you hissed, and William's expression changed.Ā
Ā Ā "You're related to the groom?" he realized.
Ā Ā "I'm his sister," you spat.
Ā Ā The young man sighed deeply and ran his fingers through his hair.Ā
Ā Ā "š˜šš˜©š˜Ŗš˜µ.. I had no idea. Let me make it up to you." he began, but you were already leaving.
Ā Ā "š˜š˜¶š˜¤š˜¬ š˜ŗš˜°š˜¶." you scoffed as you passed him.Ā
You made your way back to the ballroom, leaving William standing there alone.
Ā š˜ˆš˜Æš˜„ š˜§š˜¶š˜¤š˜¬ š˜µš˜©š˜Ŗš˜“ š˜Æš˜Ŗš˜Øš˜©š˜µ, you thought, heading straight for a bottle of wine.

donā€™t do drugs kids. most of them arent worth it i promise
and yes just like i mentioned wattpad in the last one tumblr is coming up on this one weā€™re breaking the FUCKING fourth wall
part one here
Tumblr media
You passed out on his shoulder, exactly as he predicted, at about 2:00 AM.
He didnā€™t notice for a few minutes, and once he had, he had to make a very hard decision.Ā
He knew you were leaving in the morning, you had other places to be. And he had to get home, Cliegg was going to be pissed heā€™d been out this late as it was. But- just like you, he never wanted the night to end.
At 2:15, he shimmied out from under you, finding your room key quickly. Once heā€™d slipped it into his pocket, he picked you up, carrying you all the way back to your room. The door seemed to scream as it opened, but none of the girls were awake. He laid you onto the only empty bed, leaving your room key on the dresser, and kneeled at your beside, for just a moment.Ā
A night he wasnā€™t going to forget. One he wasnā€™t willing to leave behind.Ā
He found the notepad left by the hotel for guests and its nearby pen, scribbling his phone number onto it before smacking it onto your room key so that he knew youā€™d see it.Ā
He wasnā€™t taking any chances. He did everything he could to make sure that you were safe, that youā€™d sleep soundly, that heā€™d see you again. It was a bit of a walk back to where heā€™d left his car, at the venue, but it was worth it- he shrugged his jacket up around his neck against the cold and kept going, remembering how itā€™d felt to hold you.Ā
But, in all of his kindness, he had made one mistake. You didnā€™t get to say goodbye.Ā
You woke up in the hotel room the next morning, for a moment thinking that maybe youā€™d dreamed the whole thing. But then you realized you still had your shoes on, and you were laying on top of the sheets, why the hell would I do that,Ā and you phone hadnā€™t been plugged in, and-Ā
And there was a phone number on the dresser.Ā
You werenā€™t reallyĀ ā€˜datingā€™- you shouldnā€™t call it that. If you were going to call it that, then there would inevitably be a post on someoneā€™s tumblr that you had a boyfriend, and who was he, where was he from, yada yada... that damn website already had half the internet convinced you were dating Padme, you didnā€™t want to add any more fuel to the fire.Ā
So no, you werenā€™t dating. But you were texting every day. You learned so much about him, about how he was raised by his mom and worked at her friend Wattoā€™s auto shop, about his step-brother and future step-sister-in-law, how his mom died when he was nineteen, about how heā€™d tried to move to California with his friend Obi-Wan a few years ago, but it fell through. In return, you told him about your life- living in the outskirts of San Francisco, being pushed into ballet lessons as a kid (as he said- ā€˜thatā€™s why you look weightless on stage!ā€™), being cut out from your family for quitting college to pursue music.Ā
You texted every day and every night, sent him videos from gigs, and he sent dumb little snapchats from underneath whatever car he was working on. You expected that to be it, probably for a long time- neither of you had the money nor the time to see each other more often. So you held onto the connection you had, the night youā€™d spent together.Ā
And you thought thatā€™d be it. But- the universe has a funny way of surprising you.Ā
Your record label was based in LA, so you lived in Salta Ana, about thirty miles away, where the real estate was way cheaper. The band lived together, close as four friends could be, so they knew all about how youā€™d fallen for Anakin. Ahsoka would notice you glued to your phone, and ask snarkilyĀ ā€œtexting skyguy?ā€ to which you always scolded her that his name was Skywalker.Ā
Living so close to LA made it easy to do gigs at any venue that would take you- bars, clubs, a particularly anarchist biker hall. A bar- such was the case for tonight.Ā
Like usual with a gig like this, Aayla had taken to instagram and called any fan in the area, so the bar was mostly filled with people who knew the music, but there were regulars, too. People who couldnā€™t be damned to listen to the lyrics, and just let the atmosphere move them.Ā
The setlist changed, when you were at a place like this. You didnā€™t necessarily rely on the hundred voice chorus that you loved so much, and so couldnā€™t include some of those songs. Your music strayed a little more to the rock end of the spectrum, when you played in places like this. With that high energy came faster music, more running around the stage, more movement, but you werenā€™t tired, when the set ended at 11:25. You were more energized than usual, in fact.
ā€œPads, Iā€™ve never heard you solo like that!ā€ You said, a bright smile on your face as you pushed out of the employee entrance of the bar. She gave you thanks, but not a moment later stopped dead, not saying a word, staring at you. You paused, looking at her, then Ahsoka and Aayla, whoā€™d both stopped, too.Ā
ā€œWhat?ā€ Ahsoka and Aayla, though, were looking at something past you, which made you realize that Padme was, too. You turned, and leaning against the wall was- was Anakin.Ā
ā€œOh my god,ā€ you said under your breath, dropping into a run toward him immediately.Ā ā€œAnakin!ā€ He shoved himself off of the wall, letting you run into his arms, and just held you. You pulled away to look at him, amazed that after months, here he was, right in front of you, real.Ā
ā€œWhat are you doing here?ā€ you asked, bewildered, surprised, ecstatic.Ā
ā€œVisiting Obi-Wan,ā€ he said, and he lifted his hand to your face, giving you a good look at that tattoo you hadnā€™t quite forgotten, dark lines reaching from his elbow to his palm.Ā
ā€œAnd you,ā€ he added. You couldnā€™t help it- you hadnā€™t seen him in so long, you couldnā€™t help the way you leaned into it when he pulled you into a kiss, and this time you werenā€™t exhausted, and you could let yourself feel it, you could pay attention to his chapped lips and the way he slid them over yours, still soft, even after waiting in the cold. You never wanted to leave this moment, like so many of the others that you spent with him, his hands on your face keeping away the January air.Ā
ā€œYeah, Iā€™m heading home,ā€ Ahsoka said, making you break the kiss.Ā ā€œComing, or not?ā€ You looked back at her with a bit of a glare, letting Anakinā€™s hands fall to your neck.Ā
ā€œYou guys go ahead,ā€ you said, checking your jacket pocket for the essentials- wallet, phone, house keys.Ā ā€œI think I have a tradition to uphold.ā€Ā
The bar youā€™d played at tonight was a bit far away from the place you wanted to take Anakin, but you didnā€™t mind the walk, since it was with him. Youā€™d been texting every day, and yet it felt different, there was so much more to talk about now.Ā
Apparently, Anakin hadnā€™t seen Obi-Wan since heā€™d left to move to LA, so it was a visit to an old friend as much as it was an excuse to see you again.Ā
ā€œSo youā€™re staying with him?ā€ You asked, leading him by the arm down the street.Ā
ā€œYeah,ā€ he said, hooking his elbow into yours, which let him keep his hands in his pockets.Ā ā€œHeā€™s got an apartment in east LA, itā€™s got a nice couch.ā€
ā€œEast LA, not bad. Whatā€™s he do?ā€Ā
ā€œHeā€™s a talent manager, actually. Went to business school and everything.ā€ Anakin paused, suppressing a chuckle.Ā ā€œHe told me that heā€™d love to represent you, if you didnā€™t already have someone.ā€Ā
ā€œSadly, we do,ā€ you said, playful,Ā ā€œbut Iā€™ll keep him in mind.ā€Ā
Youā€™d pretend it was the winter chill that brought the flush to your cheeks- heā€™d told his friend about you. That had to mean you were important to him, right?
ā€œWhere are we heading, anyway?ā€ He asked, and you, luckily, could channel your inner dramatic and turn toward the doorway youā€™d been heading toward all along.Ā
ā€œRight here,ā€ you said, and you took him inside.Ā
This was your recording studio- it was always open, so that any artist could stop in and get out whatever creativity they had. You showed your ID card to the lobby clerk, who approved it and called the elevator. Anakin followed your lead until the door closed, and just like you had on the night you met him, you pressed the button for the highest floor.Ā
ā€œThis is one of the buildings for our record company,ā€ you said, the elevator so familiar.Ā
ā€œWhich would explain why he let you in,ā€ Anakin said, a slight teasing tone to his voice. All you could do was chuckle, waiting for the elevator to reach the top floor.
From there, you lead him to a glass door, and swiped your ID card through a reader near its frame so you could step outside.Ā
ā€œThis is the rooftop set,ā€ you said, gesturing to the wide space,Ā ā€œItā€™s where we film a lot of music videos.ā€ This close to the door, it was hard to see over the side of the building, and so you took Anakinā€™s hand.
ā€œThe city lights keep us from stargazing,ā€ you said with a smile, and brought him to the guardrail at the edge of the roof.Ā ā€œSo I thought Iā€™d show you the cityā€™s version of the night sky.ā€ Looking out across the city, there were a thousand orange sparkles, windows illuminated in buildings stretching as far as the eye could see. Criss-crossed between them were lines of red and white, LA traffic clogging the city streets even so late at night.Ā
No matter how many times you came up here, youā€™d never get tired of the view. Fifty-five stories up, there were other buildings that dwarfed this tower, but the west was free of them, so your view to the horizon was clear, even in the LA overcast.Ā
ā€œWow,ā€ he said, looking out over it all beside you.Ā ā€œIā€™ve never- I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever been up this high.ā€ You fixed him with a surprised expression, leaning your elbows down onto the banister.Ā
ā€œNo? Really?ā€
ā€œI didnā€™t grow up in a city, like you,ā€ he said, settling in beside you, his arm pressed to yours. You let your head rest onto his shoulder, remembering the night you met.Ā
ā€œIā€™m glad you came out to LA,ā€ you said,Ā ā€œthough Iā€™m hoping youā€™ll stay a while. IĀ  want to go on an actual date with you.ā€ You heard him exhale.
ā€œYou donā€™t call this a date?ā€ he asked, and you lifted your head, looking at him, the lights of the city giving his face the slightest, golden glow.Ā
ā€œWell, I mean-ā€ If this was a date, then so had been the one after the show, back in October. Which meant this was your second date, and youā€™d technically beenĀ ā€˜datingā€™ this whole time, which kinda made him your- boyfriend?Ā
ā€œIs it?ā€ Anakin slipped his hand into yours, lacing your fingers together.
ā€œThis is better than any dinner and movie we couldā€™ve gone to, I think.ā€ He turned over your hand, tracing his first finger over the skyline tattoo that bisected your forearm.Ā ā€œEspecially since it seems like this means a lot to you.ā€ You couldnā€™t believe heā€™d noticed that tattoo- it meant he really was paying attention to you.Ā
ā€œYeah,ā€ you said with a smile, lifting your arm up, his hand still held in yours, aligning the tattoo with the skyline you were looking at.Ā ā€œI got this done after we did our first video.ā€ Silently, he examined the ink and compared it to the sky, seeing what you meant.Ā
ā€œThatā€™s really cool,ā€ he said, bringing your hand back down, since his fingers were getting cold in the wind, and he had to assume yours were too.Ā
ā€œHow long are you going to be in town?ā€ You asked, resting your temple down onto his shoulder again.Ā
ā€œA week, or so. Watto says he needs me to work on a mustang that weā€™re getting- I think Cliegg told him to say that since he doesnā€™t want me in the city.ā€Ā
ā€œWell, I donā€™t want to undermine your dad,ā€ you said,Ā ā€œBut I wouldnā€™t complain if you stayed here a lot longer than that.ā€ You ran your thumb over the back of his hand.Ā ā€œItā€™s really nice to actually have you with me, and not over the phone.ā€ Anakin turned to kiss the top of your head.
ā€œTell me about it. Itā€™s worse for me, I promise- I listen to your music all the time, and it just makes me want to see you.ā€Ā
ā€œSometimes I forget that you were once just a fan,ā€ you said with a laugh,Ā ā€œlistening to our music.ā€Ā
ā€œThe luckiest one in the world,ā€ Anakin added, and you almost wondered how youā€™d ever lived without him.Ā
You let a moment pass, in silence.Ā
ā€œIā€™m twenty five,ā€ you started, wondering if you had the courage to finish,Ā ā€œdo you think Iā€™m too young to be in love?ā€ Anakin didnā€™t respond, at first. He turned to you, lifting his furthest hand to your face, making you look up at him. You could never get over those blue eyes- youā€™d forgotten how intense they were.Ā
ā€œI guess it depends on the guy,ā€ Anakin said, his teeth quickly catching his lower lip.Ā ā€œDo you think you are?ā€ You reached up past his arm to his face, your first finger tracing his eyebrow before your palm came to rest on the ridge of his cheekbone.
ā€œNo,ā€ you said, and you rushed forward to meet his lips.Ā

Like Lightning After the Thunder: Chapter Two: Reprieve
Fic Summary:
His breath wavered as he stared into Katsukiā€™s eyes. He knew he could get out if he tried. He could knock Katsuki out, hope that no one else would find them, and run back into the shadows where he belonged. Katsuki may have had him pinned down but he was in Denkiā€™s range now and it would take little effort to send a charge through Katsuki to paralyze him temporarily.
It would take barely any additional effort to kill Katsuki.
As the sparks began to charge, lighting up the air around him, Katsuki refused to back down.
ā€“
Katsuki always knew he was destined for great things.
He didnā€™t think heā€™d have to turn his back on all heā€™s ever known to get there.

ā€“
Katsuki wasnā€™t surprised to see one of his former classmatesā€™ face on the news report with the tagline ā€œfound dead after hero-villain fight.ā€Ā
The reporter gave a rundown of the fight that had happened a few days earlier on the other side of the city, between a small gang of villains and Ochako. The villains themselves werenā€™t very high rankingā€• potential to be B-rank if they were more organized as a group, but C-rank individuallyā€• but they had managed to cause a decent amount of damage before Ochako had arrived on the scene. The news replayed the footage taken live from the battle, showing Ochako using her quirk on larger pieces of rumble to assist the lower ranked heroes in the area with evacuation as she charged forward towards the villain group herself.Ā
The footage wasnā€™t ideal. It was grainy from trying to capture the scene just outside of the limits of its scope and if it werenā€™t for the pink of Ochakoā€™s hero costume, Katsuki was certain the camera person would not have been able to keep the camera centered on her. The footage continued until Ochako grabbed one of the villains, freezing seconds after the villain began to float. A red circle appeared around the villainā€™s face along with a mugshot before cutting back to the reporter.
In the aftermath of the fight, that one villain was never found.Ā
Ochako had been frantic when they had met up after, her gaze thousands of miles in the distance every time Katsuki looked. She denied anything being on her mind despite it being so blatantly obvious that something was, but Katsuki chose not to question it. After all, if she had wanted to talk about it, she wouldnā€™t have asked to meet him.
The report continued to explain the search procedures that had taken place over the past few days before describing a call on the tip hotline that ultimately resulted in the discovery of the villainā€™s body. While they didnā€™t show a photo of the body, Katsuki couldnā€™t help but wonder just how bad it was for the report to completely skip over the cause of death.
In the end, Katsuki supposed it didnā€™t matter what caused the villainā€™s death. Ochako was certain to end up finding a way to blame herself, for not paying better attention during the fight, for not trying hard enough to find the villain after, for being the last person who saw the villain alive.Ā
Even if she didnā€™t, there were parts of society that would make sure she would never forget.
Cheeky: can you meet up with me today?
Katsuki: Takeshiā€™s?
Cheeky: yeah
Cheeky: drinks/dinner on me after if you want
Katsuki: Iā€™ll be there at five. Donā€™t be late.
Cheeky: got it!
Cheeky: hey wait why are YOU telling ME not to be late when Iā€™M the one who asked YOU to meet me
Katsuki: You know why.
Cheeky: it was ONE TIME KATSUKI ONE TIME
Katsuki was at Takeshiā€™s gym a quarter before five, reserving their usual space and changing into workout attire before sending Ochako a text to let her know he was already inside. He started his stretches, looking up only when he saw a pair of pink sneakers approach the ring.
ā€œYouā€™re late,ā€ Katsuki said, continuing his stretches.Ā
ā€œBy five minutes!ā€ Ochako dumped her water and towel on the bench next to Katsukiā€™s, quickly joining him in the stretches. ā€œI was outside before five, waiting for you!ā€
ā€œI sent you a text saying I was inside.ā€
ā€œYeah, like two minutes before five!ā€ She huffed. ā€œI was totally on time.ā€
ā€œWhatever. Hurry the fuck up.ā€
They continued preparing in silence, speaking again only to confirm that the other was ready to start. This time, only a couple of the guests flinched when Katsuki charged forward at Ochako yelling out ā€œdie!ā€
After the fifth time a hit landed that Ochako would have normally been able to block with ease, Katsuki stood down. Her form had been lacking for the better part of the past hour, and there were a few times that her blows hadnā€™t hit with the full force Katsuki was familiar with. She didnā€™t even react to Katsukiā€™s change in form until Katsuki had walked over to the bench for his water.
ā€œWhā€• hey! What gives?ā€ She frowned but joined him for a water break when he didnā€™t return to the ring right away.
ā€œDonā€™t insult me,ā€ Katsuki rolled his eyes at the shock on her face, ā€œYouā€™re distracted. What kind of fucking spar is worth the time when your opponent isnā€™t giving their all?ā€
ā€œIā€™m focused on the spar! Iā€™m totally and completely here! I wasnā€™t insulting you but I am now, youā€™re just saying that because of your enormous ego,ā€Ā
Katsuki paused, looking at her directly in her eyes. She didnā€™t flinch.
But the longer he held his gaze, the more Katsuki could tell that she was holding back.
ā€œFirst,ā€ He began, ā€œDonā€™t be cheeky with meā€•ā€
ā€œWell maybe I wouldnā€™t be so cheeky with you if you didnā€™t call me cheeky all the time!ā€
Katsuki held back an amused smile.
ā€œSecond,ā€ He continued, ā€œI hit you five different times in ways that you should have been able to block with your eyes closed.ā€
ā€œIs that supposed to be an insult or a compliment, because what Iā€™m hearing is that you think I could fight you with my eyes closed.ā€
ā€œInsult. You didnā€™t fucking block the hits, dumbass.ā€
Ochako huffed, crossing her arms. ā€œWhatever. Iā€™m going to focus on the compliment part of it.ā€
ā€œThird, you didnā€™t even notice I walked away until after I reached the bench.ā€
ā€œIā€• I was expecting you to come back! That it was some sort of trick to get me to lower my guard or something!ā€
ā€œAnd fourth, you speak faster when you lie.ā€ He let Ochako stammer for a while in response, continuing when her shoulders slumped with a heavy sigh. ā€œYou sure this is the break you need? I donā€™t mind wiping the fucking floor with you if thatā€™s what you want but you better respect my time back and fucking fight me with your all,ā€ He shifted his weight a bit before adding hesitantly, ā€œI can try to listen if you want to talk instead but thatā€™s not really my thing,ā€
Ochako didnā€™t answer immediately, instead taking a drink of her water. Katsuki waited as patiently as he could, although he did offer her a glare to try to speed up her thought process.Ā
She put her water back down and hit her knuckles together, briefly reminding Katsuki of Eijirou. ā€œOkay! One more round. I need to redeem myself before we leave for drinks,ā€
Katsuki grinned, shoving her lightly with his shoulder as he walked back towards the ring. ā€œWhatever you say, Cheeky. Youā€™re still going to fucking lose.ā€
ā€œIā€™ll make you eat your words, Katsuki!ā€
She did not, but not for lack of trying. Ochako actually paid full attention to the spar after the interruption and while Katsuki still had the upper hand on brute strength, she was nimbler and lighter on her feet. Katsuki was fairly certain that had the shift manager not interrupted to tell them that their time was up that Ochako was only a handful of moves away from finding some ā€œbarely legal in a spar between friends but completely legal in a rules free battle against a villainā€ opening and winning the round. While technically neither of them had won, he did agreeā€”after some teasing and pesteringā€” to counting it as her point in their ongoing scoreboard, adding, ā€œBut if you want me to count it as eating my words, youā€™ll have to fucking try again.ā€
Ochako seemed to be in a brighter mood when they met up again post-changing in front of Takeshiā€™s. She bumped shoulders with Katsuki as he approached and began chattering about work and her day as they made their way over to the restaurant they usually ate at after sparring sessions. He didnā€™t offer much other than the occasional ā€œyeahā€ and swear when her story necessitated it, but she didnā€™t seem to mind. She spared him from talking until after they were already seated and ordered their food and drinks.Ā
ā€œOh yeah! I heard from Tenya that you finally sent in your response to the reunion! Do you know when youā€™re heading down to Musutafu yet? We should get on the same train so that the ride isnā€™t as boringā€” well, kinda, since youā€™ll probably not be talking,ā€
ā€œShut the fuck up, I can talk when I want to,ā€ Katsuki scowled, rolling his eyes when all it resulted in was a laugh from Ochako. ā€œI havenā€™t looked at the train schedule yet. The Shitty Four Eyes approved for both the 28th and 29th off though.ā€
ā€œNice! Well, when you figure out when you want to head down, let me know and Iā€™ll be your Anti-Explosion Time buddy for the ride down,ā€Ā
ā€œOh fuck off.ā€
Ochako laughed again. Katsuki hoped this would be the extent of the reunion talk but she continued, ā€œItā€™ll be great to see the entire class again, donā€™t you think?ā€
ā€œYou make it sound like we never fucking see anyone. I literally saw you a few fucking days ago and you spend half your weekends with Frog Face or Four Eyes or the fucking Nerd or whoever the fuck,ā€ Katsuki pointed out. ā€œWe see basically everyone at the Billboards too,ā€
ā€œDonā€™t be such a bore, Katsuki. Reunions are different from the Billboards. We donā€™t have to deal with those ā€˜damn extrasā€™ at the reunion,ā€ She put on her best Katsuki impression at ā€œdamn extras,ā€ extending her palms outwards and adding a playful ā€œBoom! Pow!ā€Ā
ā€œI donā€™t fucking sound like that.ā€
ā€œYes you do. Iā€™m the great Katsuki Bakugou! Die you fucking piece of shit! Boom! Bam! You fucking extra! Bow before the king! Boomboom!ā€
Katsuki let the faintest hint of a smile slip. ā€œI have never said ā€˜bow before the king,ā€™ā€
ā€œOh come on Katsuki, you tried to name yourself King Explosion Murder, donā€™t deny it. Even if youā€™ve never said it, youā€™ve definitely thought about it.ā€
He scowled, muttering a ā€œfuck offā€, refusing to acknowledge that yes, yes he had thought about saying it once or twice.
ā€œSo you admit that Iā€™m right!ā€
ā€œFuck off, I said no such fucking thing.ā€
ā€œYou didnā€™t say ā€˜noā€™ either though.ā€
ā€œIā€™m demoting you to a fucking extra, you shitty fucking extra.ā€
Katsuki was given a brief break from any potential cheeky response from Ochako when the server stepped in with their drinks. They raised their glasses, a silent toast to making it another day alive, to making it as far as they had come, to their friendship.
To the silent understanding that there were some struggles that were best left unshared.
He didnā€™t press further about whatever it was that was stressing her out, even if he had a strong feeling about what caused it. She didnā€™t comment on the circles under his eyes or how his mind seemed to wander after she brought up certain high school memories. They talked, ignoring their stressors, and for a while, they could pretend everything was fine.

I'm Gonna Crawl: Post 1
(Divided because of length)
Tumblr media
Post 2
Summary: Five years. That's how long the reader and Bucky have been apart (although for him, it was only five minutes) Now with Thanos defeated and both of them taking up the mantle of Avengers, can their relationship return to what it was? Or will they have to discover a new normal?
Pairings: Bucky Barnes x fem! enhanced! super-soldier! Reader (Reader can see pieces of the future in visions as well as speak every language)
Warnings: Angst, fluff, language
Author's note: Tumblr is being a poo-poo head and won't let me post the whole fic because it's too long, so this is a two parter.
*************************************************
The text comes when sheā€™s in the middle of teaching English feminine and masculine pronouns. Immediately, she knows itā€™s something important. Thereā€™s a very limited amount of people sheā€™s allowed to filter through the ā€œdo not disturbā€ status she sets her phone in while sheā€™s in the classroom. Her first though is Barnes, but at this point, heā€™s memorized her schedule even more thoroughly than she has, so itā€™s unlikely heā€™s responsible for the disturbance. Pepper, maybe? But no, sheā€™s a powerful enough woman that if she needed anything, she could simply ask and it would be hers. Peter? Itā€™s within normal high school hours, so if heā€™s messaging her, sheā€™ll give him a lecture next time she sees him for texting in class. That only leaves one person, or rather, organization. As she instructs her students to come up with a few examples of common words which can be said different ways to demonstrate masculine and feminine, then takes a moment to check her phone, her suspicions are confirmed. Rhodes. The Avengers.
ā€œYou guys keep working. Thatā€™s an example of an English masculine. Now what would the feminine be?ā€ A chorus of ā€˜galsā€™ follows her out the door. Once sheā€™s rounded the corner, she dials the number, completely skipping the texting process. The line only rings once before Rhodey answers.
ā€œHello?ā€
ā€œSoothsayer. What is it?ā€
ā€œYou need to come in. Weā€™ve got a mission, and it has to be you.ā€ She lets out a silent groan before asking,
ā€œHow much time have I got to square things away at work?ā€
ā€œWheelā€™s up in ninety minutes. You need to be here at least fifteen before to read over your orders.ā€ Her boss isnā€™t going to be happy, but itā€™s doable.
ā€œRight. I think I just got a crippling migraine. Iā€™ll call you back later.ā€
ā€œThanks. I owe you one.ā€
ā€œYouā€™re damn right.ā€ She mutters it as the line goes dead.
Thirty minutes later, sheā€™s on her way after giving the sub her notes and her boss a bullshit excuse. So far, no oneā€™s worked out that sheā€™s one of the people who fought in the battle against Thanos, and she hopes to keep it that way.
She speeds across the city, driving a little faster than is responsible, but her reflexes are fast enough to cover for it. If this is going to be the sort of mission where they need her brawn as well as her brains, sheā€™d like a few minutes to warm up before she has to hop on a quinjet. Grabbing her go-bag (complete with weapons, her suit, and a set of spare cosmetics), she jumps out of the car as soon as itā€™s parked in front of the newly rebuilt Avengers compound. Warm up, and make a call to-
ā€œWell, look who the cat dragged in.ā€ She turns her head towards the voice, catching sight of Sam and-
ā€œWhatā€™d you tell them? Stomach flu?ā€ Barnes. Okay, maybe she wonā€™t have to call him after all, but that brings up more questions than answers.
ā€œMigraine.ā€ She falls into step next to him while Sam rushes on ahead. ā€œThey called you too, huh?ā€
He nods, grimacing. ā€œLooks like itā€™s something big.ā€ Obviously. If theyā€™ve called in both him and Sam, not just one or the other, then itā€™s a guarantee the situation is FUBAR. Plus her? Sheā€™s usually in the background. If sheā€™s being pulled then-
ā€œYou alright?ā€ She nods, smiling with more confidence than she feels.
ā€œYeah. Just wish I knew what we were getting into. If they want both unstable super soldiers-ā€ Itā€™s a joke, which thankfully, he gets.
ā€œThen the situation must be pretty hairy.ā€ Thatā€™s putting it lightly. Theyā€™ve never been called up together before. Never.
If the mounting evidence werenā€™t enough to clue her in that this is going to be major, the final factor would be, after Rhodes explains to all three of them that with the return of so many people to Earth, a former dictator who disappeared in the snap has gathered up his forces and is attempting to usurp a now-peaceful democracy in hopes of using the territory to levy compliance from surrounding nations. Usually that wouldnā€™t be their thing, but when the words ā€œdirty bombā€ and ā€œgamma radiationā€ are brought into play, itā€™s no mystery as to why theyā€™re being called in.
Itā€™s about what she expected. Falcon is running point, Winter Soldier is the man on the grassy knoll (she shudders when Rhodey goes with that particular descriptor because of a confession several years back just after he woke up in Wakanda; ā€œI really hope Iā€™m remembering this wrong and it was just a dream, but I think I was behind what happened to the president.ā€), and sheā€™s on evac and rescue, making sure thereā€™s as few civilian casualties as possible. However, when the briefing is called to a close, itā€™s a total shock that Sam is let go while she and Barnes are told to stay back.
Rhodes sits at the edge of his desk, arms crossed, wearing his most serious expression. ā€œYou two have completed the appropriate training hours together, correct?ā€
ā€œYes.ā€ They say it at the same time, and she has to bite her cheek to keep from yelling out, ā€œJinx!ā€ It was a requirement after the defeat of Thanos that the two of them specifically learn how to work together as a team, play off of each otherā€™s strengths, just in case something truly catastrophic happened. She also trained with Bucky and Sam as their third. What sheā€™s wondering is, why ask a question Rhodes clearly knows the answer to? Heā€™s the one who set up the training, after all.
ā€œAnd youā€™re comfortable working as a squad?ā€ She catches Buckyā€™s eye, and itā€™s clear that heā€™s come to the same conclusion as her: this isnā€™t what Rhodey is really after.
ā€œWeā€™re fully capable, yes.ā€ Heā€™s the one that answers, while she reaches out into the unknown, hoping for a vision. No dice.
With a sigh, Rhodey stands.
ā€œWhat I mean is, can you be objective out there on the battlefield? Can you work together like anyone else?ā€ This time, sheā€™s the one to speak up.
ā€œCan we be objective? Yes. Can we work together like anyone else? No, but that was your goal with the training program.ā€
ā€œYou wouldnā€™t have called the two of us up if you didnā€™t need what we can do together.ā€
For a moment, she feels sympathy for Rhodes. The poor man is clearly struggling to make a point. Thatā€™s when it hits her, a vision of what heā€™s prepared for them to do. As soon as it passes, she kicks Barnesā€™ chair leg lightly, which is enough that he gets the message.
ā€œJust say it, because sheā€™s already seen it.ā€ She wouldnā€™t want to be in Rhodesā€™ position for the world right now with the news heā€™s about to deliver.
ā€œFine.ā€ Rhodey nods. ā€œIf we get in a tight spot, someone is going to have to draw fire. It canā€™t be Barnes for obvious reasons.ā€ Part of their mission is to obtain stolen scientific data located deep inside enemy lines. Sheā€™s smaller and therefore faster, can fit into tight places more easily, but heā€™s been trained to go unnoticed, and whatā€™s more, to incapacitate anyone who sees more than they should. Itā€™s an obvious choice. Sheā€™s in essence the diversion, the boy crying wolf while the real thief makes off with the shepherdsā€™ wallets. Her size and speed will work to her advantage, as well as the fact that they wonā€™t recognize her, so they wonā€™t know right away that sheā€™s the decoy, whereas the second they have eyes on him or Sam, theyā€™ll know to batten down the hatches.
She doesnā€™t have to look beside her to know what he thinks of that idea. She can practically feel him seething. But, itā€™s a scenario that, along with Sam, theyā€™ve trained for.
ā€œWhat I need to know is that, once the bullets start flying, you wonā€™t fall back on instinct and run to protect each other. Out there, you are not a couple. Youā€™re teammates, fellow soldiers, nothing more. Got it?ā€
She keeps her eyes focused on Rhodeyā€™s face as she nods, otherwise hers will show what sheā€™s feeling. ā€œAgreed.ā€
ā€œBarnes?ā€ Thereā€™s a pause, so long sheā€™s about to kick his chair leg again just to get a reaction.
ā€œUnderstood.ā€
ā€œGood.ā€ Rhodesā€™ posture immediately changes. ā€œNow, suit up. Quinjet is leaving at 1300 hours.ā€
___________________________________________________________________________________
ā€œOh!ā€ Bucky looks up from the building schematics heā€™s studying at the surprised noise from the woman next to him. ā€œThis oneā€™s actually not bad.ā€
ā€œWhich one?ā€ He leans towards her, scanning the house listing on her phone. ā€œNah. I donā€™t like the look of that roof.ā€
ā€œTrue, but it says here theyā€™re willing to knock some off the asking price if weā€™re willing to do our own repairs-ā€
A groan issues from the other side of the jet.
ā€œAre you two really searching realtor.com while weā€™re on our way to save the world?ā€ Sam asks, scowling.
ā€œNo, of course not.ā€ She shakes her head, smirking. ā€œItā€™s zillow.ā€ That reminds him-
ā€œScroll down. Letā€™s see when it was built.ā€ It looks likeā€¦ ah. ā€œHard no. That thingā€™s older than me.ā€
ā€œAnd like you, it has character.ā€ Itā€™s too good of an opportunity to pass up. He sees an opening, and heā€™s going for it.
ā€œDid you just compare me to a house?ā€ She snickers.
ā€œNow that you mention it, there are some similarities. Good bones, had some renovations done, could use some landscaping-ā€
ā€œYou know, you couldā€™ve just said ditch the beard.ā€
She gasps, clutching a hand to her chest. ā€œI would never!ā€
ā€œAlright, Iā€™m gonna stop you there.ā€ Sam holds up a hand. ā€œIf youā€™re gonna talk about his hair anywhere below the neck, Iā€™m gonna open up the hatch and jump out.ā€ It would be a more effective threat if he wasnā€™t already wearing his wings.
ā€œMind out of the gutter, Sam.ā€ She half-heartedly scolds before returning to examine her phone. ā€œThe market is just shit right now but thereā€™s got to be something listed thatā€™s less expensive than renting an apartment in the middle of Brooklynā€¦ā€ Thatā€™s what all of this is about, really. After the snap (at least from what heā€™s read) the price of renting was lower than it had been since the fifties. Now that everything is back to normal, everyone and their mother is looking for a place to rent. Not that he can blame them. Heā€™s one of the returned, after all.
ā€œI guess we could move into the complex once itā€™s repaired. Just for a little while-ā€
ā€œNope.ā€ Sam cuts them off. ā€œHell no. Itā€™s enough that I gotta deal with you and Judge Dredd here being all domestic on missions. If I have to hear you two going at it, Iā€™m gonna lose my shit.ā€
He may not understand the pop culture reference, but he caught the sexual one. The truth is, they havenā€™t slept together since he returned. Itā€™s not like things have been platonic; they shower together, cuddle, and make out like teenagers walking down loversā€™ lane. However, five years is a long time (even if for him, it was barely more than an instant), and while heā€™s ready to resume their sex life, heā€™s not going to push in case sheā€™s not there yet.
Before he can go too far down that rabbit hole, the intercom crackles to life and their pilot announces that itā€™s time for the drop. Heā€™s not a huge fan of parachuting (falling to his near death and losing an arm sort of took the magic out for him), but he calls on what remains of his training now that HYDRAā€™s brainwashing has been deactivated and puts on an emotionless front.
ā€œCom links on.ā€ As Sam speaks, he activates his own com. ā€œEveryone getting a signal?ā€ He is, and if the face she just made is anything to judge from so is she. ā€œOkay. I drop first, then on my mark, Winter Soldier drops; five seconds later, Soothsayer follows. Copy?ā€
ā€œCopy.ā€
ā€œCopy.ā€
Sam shoots them a grin that doesnā€™t completely hide his nerves. ā€œGood luck.ā€
As soon as his partnerā€™s exited the plane, he catches her eye. ā€œLove you. See you on the other side.ā€
ā€œLove you. Come back in one piece.ā€
___________________________________________________________________________________
Even before Sam hits the ground, he knows itā€™s going to be a shit show. Even though he doesnā€™t activate his com to tell them as much, itā€™s obvious as the super soldier plummets past him that his chute didnā€™t open. Sam might worry about this if it werenā€™t for the fact he saw Steve jump out of many a plane without anything to keep him from free falling. Their tag-along, however? She has activated her coms (either that or she forgot to deactivate them) and she lets out a gasp. Thatā€™s all, a gasp, but itā€™s enough to put Sam on edge. This is why coupling up is dangerous in this line of work. Your affection can work to your disadvantage.
Because he canā€™t have his team scattered, worrying about each other, he asks, ā€œBarnes, do you copy?ā€
ā€œCopy, Falcon. Donā€™t think Iā€™ll be doing that again.ā€
ā€œOh, you are so getting shit for that when we get home.ā€ He rolls his eyes.
ā€œLetā€™s cut the chitchat. We have a mission. On my mark, Soothsayer heads into the encampment to lead any P.O.W.s and civilians away. Copy?ā€
ā€œCopy.ā€
ā€œCopy.ā€
He lands just before she does, and as soon as sheā€™s detached her shoot, he gives her the go ahead.
Any thought that they might have succeeded in having the element of surprise on their side goes out the window when a shot whizzes past his head.
ā€œBarnes, cover me.ā€
ā€œCopy.ā€
Even with the rain of bullets from his own personal sniper, he barely gets past the first defensive line in one piece. He takes out at least a dozen hostiles, incapacitating when he can, eliminating where he must. Just outside the main fortress, he asks,
ā€œCome in, Winter Soldier. How many hostiles between you and my position?ā€
ā€œEighteen.ā€ A muffled shot follows the statement. ā€œSeventeen.ā€
ā€œAlright. Clear a path. Letā€™s show these sons of bitches what they get when they threaten innocent lives.ā€
He thinks that maybe theyā€™ll be able to turn it around when they find their human target fairly easily and are able to capture and incapacitate. The orders, however, were not just to bring him in alive but also to seize the assets theyā€™ve lost before a bomb squad and team of radiation specialists comes in and sweep the place. The only way heā€™ll be able to get their target back to the jet unharmed (not to mention survive himself) is if they do the one thing he was hoping it wouldnā€™t come to.
ā€œSoothsayer, this is Falcon. Come in. Over.ā€
ā€œCopy, Falcon.ā€
ā€œWinter Soldier is going in. Deploy ā€œbig bad wolfā€ initiative.ā€ In other words, go get shot at while at the same time covering me.
ā€œCopy. Be advised, there are hostages in the building. I repeat, hostages in the building. Over.ā€ For a moment he wonders if she saw it in a vision or if one of the people sheā€™s just helped escaped has started talking out of gratitude, but pushes it to the side. He has biggest issues.
ā€œWinter Soldier, Soothsayer, get into place. On my signal, we move.ā€
ā€œCopy.ā€
ā€œCopy.ā€
ā€œThreeā€¦ twoā€¦ oneā€¦ go!ā€
Sam kicks off into the air, thanking whoever the hell out there invented this tech that he doesnā€™t have to fly with an extra 250 pounds of dictator in his arms (Redwing is handling that). Out of the corner of his eye, he catches Soothsayer making a run for it, shooting as she goes. Where the hell did she get the gun? Problems for later.
Heā€™s just about to radio into the jet to see if the ā€˜packageā€™ was delivered when the shots turn in his direction. He returns fire at the same time a dagger flies past his head.
ā€œThrow it a little closer next time Soothsayer. I dare you.ā€ Itā€™s muttered under his breath.
ā€œSo you wanted a sniperā€™s bullet in your back?ā€ Damned super hearing.
ā€œArenā€™t you supposed to be causing a distraction?ā€
ā€œI am. Close your eyes and cover your ears.ā€ He complies just in time for the flashbang to go off over his head.
ā€œFuck! You couldā€™ve told me thatā€™s what you were doing!ā€ Thereā€™s no reply. ā€œSoothsayer?ā€ A grunt followed by the sound of impact comes over the com.
ā€œLittle busy. Hold up.ā€ Hand to hand, if he had to venture a guess. More shots are fired, and he flies lower, returning them, kicking a few assailants in the head as he goes.
ā€œWinter Soldier, this is Falcon. Come in.ā€
ā€œI read you.ā€
ā€œDo you have eyes on the target?ā€
ā€œAlmost there. Thereā€™s a few more obstacles than we thought.ā€
ā€œCopy. Over and-ā€ He doesnā€™t get to finish the sentence as a yell of ā€œGet down!ā€ pierces the night.
It all happens in slow motion. He reaches for the shield, but he can already hear the gun discharge. A force runs into him, knocking him to the ground. Realization hits him: itā€™s her. He doesnā€™t see the bullet impact, but he hears her cry out. On instinct, he covers both of their vital organs with the shield, and thatā€™s when he sees the splotch of red blooming from her right shoulder, which so happens to have acted as a human barrier, blocking what would have most assuredly have been a kill shot to the head for him.
ā€œFalcon, Soothsayer, come-ā€ Thereā€™s a muffled shout over the com, followed by more sickening thuds and a few shots.
ā€œBarnes?ā€ He hears a whisper of movement from behind him, and without looking, fires. ā€œBarnes, do you copy?ā€ As he speaks, several hostiles gang up on him at once. Using the shield to itā€™s full advantage, he knocks two off their feet, kicks another in the gonads, then chin, and punches two moreā€™s lights out. He starts on the one thatā€™s left, but out of nowhere, the hostileā€™s legs go out from under him. What-
ā€œThis is Barnes. I have the target. Moving hostages out now.ā€
Sam opens his mouth to speak again, but a tug at his ankle draws his attention. Sheā€™s sitting up, features drawn in pain and still bleeding, her fist bloody from the last hostileā€™s face.
ā€œDonā€™t tell Barnes.ā€
Internally groaning, he speaks again. ā€œCopy. Meet us back at the ship. Over and out.ā€ Grabbing her good arm, he hauls her to her feet and drapes her body over his shoulder. ā€œPretty sure the bloodā€™s gonna tip him off. And the bullet hole.ā€
___________________________________________________________________________________
ā€œItā€™s not that bad.ā€ This has to be the tenth time sheā€™s repeated that sentiment in the past five minutes since arriving back at the quinjet, and yet itā€™s still not making an impression. As she stands yet again, Sam gives her good shoulder a hard push.
ā€œSit your serum-ed up ass down. Youā€™re gonna bleed out if-ā€ She narrows her eyes at the man with the shield. ā€œFine. Youā€™re still dripping blood everywhere.ā€ Yeah, well, itā€™s not like it hit a major vein or artery. She saw it coming, after all. Stillā€¦ it fucking hurts.
ā€œShouldnā€™t you be hailing Barnes again?ā€
ā€œWhoā€™s in charge here? You or me?ā€ She thinks about snapping back with something truly brutal, but bites her tongue. ā€œOnly thing you should be worrying about is how weā€™re gonna get that slug out of you.ā€
ā€œGive me a pair of pliers and Iā€™ll do it myself.ā€
ā€œThe hell you will.ā€
ā€œOh, for fuckā€™s sake! Itā€™s-ā€ Before she can repeat herself again, the door opens. Her breath seizes in her throat a she takes in Barnesā€™ appearance. Dear God.
ā€œTarget acquired?ā€ Sam nods and motions towards the back of the plane.
ā€œWhat about you? Package secure?ā€ With a thump, a black bag is dropped onto the floor between them. Sam opens his mouth (more than likely to make a sarcastic remark about being careful with the brain child of at least a dozen scientists worldwide), but before he can-
ā€œYouā€™re hit.ā€ Heā€™s in front of her, crossing the narrow space in just two strides.
Biting back a wince, she stares pointedly at the oozing bullet wound in his thigh. ā€œSo are you.ā€
ā€œItā€™s nothing.ā€ Sheā€™s about to call bullshit (thatā€™s a fuck ton of blood, and also she doesnā€™t remember that cut on his forehead last time she saw him), but he turns away, fixing Sam with a hard stare. ā€œWhy didnā€™t you say we had a man down?ā€
ā€œNot a man-ā€ She starts.
ā€œAnd technically, she never went completely down. Plus-ā€ She knows what heā€™s going to say, and mouths a silent ā€˜Donā€™tā€™, which Sam ignores. ā€œ-she told me not to.ā€ There it is. Sheā€™s never gonna hear the end of this.
Returning his gaze to her, he asks, ā€œYou told him-ā€
ā€œIt wasnā€™t a big deal. Can we talk about this later?ā€
ā€œI second that.ā€ Sam nods. ā€œPreferably when youā€™re not both about to bleed out in the air.ā€ Buckyā€™s lips twitch momentarily, and she barely contains her own smirk. Theyā€™re not about to bleed out. Still-
ā€œYou want to go first with the pliers, or do you want me to?ā€
ā€œFor the last time, no one is using pliers to go spelunking for bullets. Arenā€™t you two supposed to be smart?ā€ She raises an eyebrow in Buckyā€™s direction, and he smirks.
ā€œTechnically, I think the serum just turned us into better soldiers. Not geniuses.ā€
ā€œRight, and since it would take us what?ā€ She glances at her phone, checking the time. ā€œFive hours to get home? More than likely we wouldā€™ve already started to heal pretty significantly around the bullet and would have to disrupt that so they could dig them out.ā€
ā€œSo, pliers.ā€ She nods.
ā€œPliers.ā€
With a groan, Sam stands and, digging around in the compartment overhead, produces a first aid kit.
ā€œFine, but if either of you starts to hemorrhage, donā€™t come crying to me.ā€
Rolling her eyes at his retreating back, she asks, ā€œThe question still stands. You want to be the surgeon first or the patient?ā€
ā€œThat depends.ā€ Bucky motions to her own bullet wound. ā€œIs that as bad as it looks, or worse?ā€
She attempts a shrug, but the motion makes her wince. ā€œItā€™s just a scratch.ā€ The look on his face tells her heā€™s not convinced.
ā€œThen I guess Iā€™ll dig yours out first. If push comes to shove, I can fix myself up.ā€ This time, sheā€™s with Sam. The hell he will. Sheā€™ll just power through.
ā€œAlright.ā€ She motions to the few members of the TACK team still hanging around. ā€œIf you donā€™t want to see me shirtless, Iā€™d suggest you find somewhere else to be, or at least look away.ā€ Shockingly few heads turn at her words. ā€œOkay smart-asses. What I mean is give a lady some privacy and avert your eyes.ā€ There. Thatā€™s more like it.
Sheā€™s kinda pissed off that sheā€™ll have to junk the suit. It was a new one. Even more infuriating is that when she goes to unzip it, thanks to her injured shoulder she canā€™t manage it, and whatā€™s worse, she lets out a groan of pain.
ā€œEasy. Let me help.ā€ If they were alone, sheā€™d make an off-colored joke (something along the lines of ā€œany excuse to get me undressedā€), but she swallows it down and grits her teeth as the material tugs at her wound. Sheā€™s just going to have to toughen up and rip it off like a band-aide.
ā€œI think thereā€™s a water bottle somewhere, so we could soak-ā€ Bracing herself, she gives the material a sharp tug, completely exposing herself. ā€œ-or you could just do it the hard way.ā€
ā€œAfter all these years, why would I start doing things the easy way now?ā€ She feels more than hears the short intake of breath that signals a laugh.
ā€œGood point. Hold tight while I check the kit.ā€ Taking advantage of the brief lull, she closes her eyes. Sheā€™s not exactly squeamish, but thereā€™s something about seeing a bullet lodged in her shoulder thatā€™s somewhat unsettling. ā€œAlright. This is gonna sting, and then itā€™s gonna hurt like a son of a bitch.ā€
ā€œDonā€™t threaten me with a good time.ā€ That one earns her an actual snicker.
Sure enough, it does sting. That is, if by ā€œstingā€ you meant ā€œfeels like I scrubbed myself with a sandpaper washcloth and then rinsed off with vodka.ā€ Still, she manages to keep still and wipe any expression of pain from her face as the disinfectant is poured on, completely soaking her.
ā€œSorry.ā€ She shakes her head.
ā€œNothing a towel wonā€™t take care of.ā€
Heā€™s in front of her now, so she opens her eyes, concentrating hard on his face so she wonā€™t look down.
ā€œYou alright?ā€ Itā€™s completely false, but she pastes on a smile.
ā€œSplendid. Thinking of taking this up as a hobby, actually.ā€ He frowns.
ā€œYou couldnā€™t just take up embroidery like a normal person?ā€
ā€œNo one-ā€ Her breath catches as he starts to probe for the bullet. It was a distraction. ā€œ-takes up embroidery as a hobby anymore.ā€ Deep breaths. She needs to take deep breaths.
ā€œShit.ā€ Shit? Thatā€™s not comforting. ā€œDo you want the good news first or the bad news?ā€
ā€œDealerā€™s choice.ā€
ā€œGood news, itā€™s in one piece. Bad news-ā€ He looks up, holding her gaze. ā€œItā€™s lodged pretty far in there, Doll.ā€ Of course it is. Just her luck. ā€œDo you want to wait ā€˜til we get home, or-ā€
ā€œJust do it.ā€ Once more, she closes her eyes. ā€œSooner we get it out, sooner the super soldier mojo can do itā€™s thing.ā€
ā€œYou sure?ā€ She nods.
ā€œJust do me a favor. Donā€™t tell me when you start pulling it out. I donā€™t want to know.ā€
Itā€™s silent, no one saying a word. Still, she clings to the little sounds she can make out in order to keep herself occupied. The engine running. The air filtration system. Her own jagged breaths and his measured ones. Despite her attempts at distraction, she can feel it the moment he starts easing the bullet out of her shoulder. On instinct her body seizes up, and she has to force herself to relax each muscle. Itā€™ll only be more painful if sheā€™s tense.
ā€œDo you want something to squeeze? Maybe a hand to hold?ā€
Taking a slow, deep breath, she answers.
ā€œThat depends. How much do you like that arm?ā€ If she takes out the pain on anything else, sheā€™s almost certain sheā€™d crush it.
ā€œIā€™m sort of attached to it, so-ā€ She chuckles, and thatā€™s when the bullet slides free. ā€œAnd, next time you make fun of my corny jokes, I get to remind you of this.ā€
The patching up process is simple from there. The bleeding is easily staunched and although itā€™s in an awkward place, they manage to bandage her without much trouble. Sheā€™s so nervous, she expects her hands to shake as she takes her turn and, with her good arm, digs the bullet out of Barnes (his is in fragments but luckily, a vision hits and shows her the shardsā€™ locations), but surprisingly, her hands are steady. She glances up at his face just as she pulls the last shard out, but of course, heā€™s shut down, completely expressionless.
Finally, the quinjet touches down outside of what used to be the Avengersā€™ compound. Normally they would disembark, then head straight off to a debriefing, but under the circumstances, Sam calls it a night and tells them to get some rest, then come in tomorrow to go over mission reports. As they watch Falcon climb into his car and drive away, it hits her how terribly exhausted she really is. Between her bum shoulder and his bum leg, neither of them is really fit to drive home, so-
ā€œThink we can get a cab this time of night?ā€ Great minds think alike, it seems.
ā€œI donā€™t know, but Iā€™m willing to give it a try.ā€
Itā€™s only once theyā€™re home safely and sheā€™s climbed into bed that she allows herself to wonder if theyā€™re ever going to talk about today.

and for @hecky-heckicravedeath (x) who gave me inspiration for this fanfiction. Also Thanks @3tothe1 for being my beta. (Youā€™re such a sweetheart, and I love you so much)
Anyway, Ā I hope you like it, my dear Witchlings!Ā šŸ’›
I present you: NURSE GERALT!Ā Ā
Chapter 1 Word Count: 2461
ao3: (x)Ā
Chapter 2 Tumblr link: (x) Chapter 3 Tumblr link: (x) Chapter 4 Tumblr Link: (x)
When Geralt arrives for his shift, still feeling exhausted from yesterday, he has no idea whatā€™s waiting for him at the hospital. His days are never too ordinary because you never know what youā€™ll come across.
Thatā€™s a part of being a nurse.
But he could never think that one of the not-so-famous musicians, his daughter, Ciri adores, was going to have a terrible traffic accidentā€”which somehow isnā€™t on the newsā€”and end up in the hospital he works at.
He already knows his name since Ciri just canā€™t stop talking about how nice he is and how he sounds like an angel. To the point where sometimes Geralt wants to say ā€œOkay he is wonderful, so kind and lovely and you really love him, I get it. Can you please just keep eating your pasta? Yes Ciri, yes, I know that pasta is his favorite food, you say that every time weā€™re having pasta. ā€
Geralt isnā€™t there for his intake, apparently, the accident happened last night, and the musician was badly injured.
Jaskier has a ruptured spleen that caused internal hemorrhaging, which the doctors were able to repair. He also has a mild concussion, a couple of broken ribs, along with some cuts and a broken leg which he is probably going to need another surgery for.
Since the other nurse who was responsible for Jaskier last night, Ā is having some family issues and has to take his annual leave, Jaskier is in Geraltā€™s care now, they let Geralt know.
When Geralt is home, Ciri starts talking about how Jaskier hadnā€™t posted anything in two days, and how worried she is since Jaskier had promised them a new song, ā€œHe never breaks his promises,ā€ she says.
Geralt thinks that keeping the fact that the young man was in a traffic accident to himself is a better idea.
***
Three days later, when Geralt cracks open the door to Jaskierā€™s room, the man still sounds asleep, his chest rising and falling with every slow breath he takes as the morphine keeps dripping into his system. Itā€™s enough to keep him subdued, if not completely pain-free.
He checks his IV, and takes a few notes onto his clipboard, right before the musician comes to, his eyelids fluttering.
And damn if he hasnā€™t got the most breathtaking eyes he has ever seen in his whole life. Even when they lack the spark Geralt is sure they normally hold in them.
Jaskier is confused, of course. So he tells him about what has happened and clears his throat before speaking.
ā€œMr. Pankratz, I need to take your vitals and then give you some medicines for the pain, may I have your arm?ā€
ā€œHell you can, might as well take my poor heart that seems to be beating forā€”ā€ Ā Jaskier flirts and coughs before he has the chance to finish, his voice is low and hoarse from lack of use.
Geralt makes no comments, and fills a cup of water for him instead, helping him to drink it. He is surprised by the musicianā€™s flattering words, and he is also glad that he is good at keeping a neutral expression on his face. Ā
ā€œā€¦you.ā€ He finishes. ā€œWell, I would normally use the ā€˜am I dead and in Heaven?ā€™ clichĆ©, but, see,ā€ Jaskier keeps talking after sipping some water ā€œIā€™m in too much pain to think that Iā€™m in heaven. You sure look like a sexy angel or something though. Ā Ohoho, are you gonna give me a sponge bath, too? Just wondering. If so, Iā€™m totally down for it. Just so you know.ā€
Geralt canā€™t help but snort at that a bit, ā€œDo you always talk that much?ā€
ā€œMaybe itā€™s you who doesnā€™t talk enough, you ever considered that?ā€ Jaskier teases, and then suddenly his whole playful expression changes like he remembered that he had left his cat on the stone, and he frowns to himself, ā€œOh God, three days you said? Shitshitshit,ā€ he drops his head back onto his pillows in a way too dramatic manner, covering his eyes with one hand ā€œI had promised them a new song,ā€ the nurse hears him mumbling ā€œI am such an idiot.ā€
Jaskier truly seems so disappointed in himself that Geralt feels the need of comforting him. The man had a traffic accident, for crying out loud!
And yet, he is concerned for his fans because he couldnā€™t keep his promise, rather than being worried for himself.
Not even an hour has passed since he had the chance to talk to the man, but he already can see why Ciri likes this guy that much.
ā€œItā€™s not your fault that some idiot decided that running a red light and colliding with your car was a good idea,ā€ Geralt says ā€œdonā€™t beat yourself up over it.ā€
Jaskier still seems disappointed, but he mumbles a silent 'thank youā€™ before he says ā€œ you may be right, but I promised them.ā€
***
Days go like this: Jaskier keeps flirting with him every time Geralt steps into his room to check on him and give him his medicines. Geralt never flirts back because of obvious reasons, but he never tells him to stop either, even though he does judge him with his eyes now and then.
The moments Geralt can spend with the man is the most he feels happy at work.
He canā€™t even deny that at this point.
Ciri keeps asking him why he looks happier nowadays, and why he suddenly became clumsy all of a sudden because he loses his focus easily.
ā€œWho is the reason behind your smile? I gotta know! Cā€™mon, itā€™s not fair! Donā€™t leave me hanging like this!ā€ Ā She insists, being the stubborn girl she is, and after a second she grins like cheshire cat ā€œYouā€™ve finally met someone special?ā€
ā€œā€¦I might have, pumpkinā€ Ā is his answer. ā€œI might have.ā€
***
He doesnā€™t know why, but Geralt doesnā€™t like Thursdays. Well, itā€™s probably because everything bad has ever happened to him seemed to happen on Thursdays, usually.
And sadly, this Thursday is no exception.
Hank, a seventy years old man who has been here for more than a month, and who has been very ill passes away. Who he had become really close with and really cared about.
Jaskier catches his change of mood when he goes to check on him and simply says, ā€œTalk to me. I mean, you donā€™t have to. But you look like you could use a friend. And Iā€™m so bored of watching television anyway.ā€
So Geralt talks to him.
He talks about Hank, about how wise he was. He talks about how he has been working here for years but how it still affects him so much when someone passes away. How he doesnā€™t suppose to feel a connection with his patients, how terrible of a nurse that makes him.
ā€œThat makes you human, not a terrible nurse.ā€ Jaskier assures him, his voice as gentle as always. ā€œBelieve me. I wouldnā€™t lie to you.ā€
Geralt isnā€™t sure when Jaskierā€™s hand finds his hand as they talk, and when his dainty looking, long fingers link with his; but the intimate gesture feels so natural, so right that he just lets him.
***
Jaskier has surgery for his right leg the next day, and itā€™s not the first time that Geralt hears his patients saying the most ridiculous things after their surgery, thanks to the sedation.
But oh boy, if Jaskier doesnā€™t take it to a whole new level.
ā€œMaaarry meee, my dear nurse!ā€ the musician yells, ā€œwe could make the most adorable babies together! One of them would have my voice, one of them would have your weirdly sexy brooding or something. One of them would have myā€¦. my tongue? Ā Or eyes? Cheeks! Yes, cheeks. And the other would have your lips while the other would have yourā€¦ DIMPLE! I love that cute dimple you have on your jaw! ā€
Geralt laughs, because how can he not?
ā€œThatā€™s biologically impossible.ā€ the nurse says. ā€œAlso how many kids you have in mind? That was awfully a lot.ā€
ā€œHmm, letā€™s see. Marie, Duchess,ā€ Jaskier starts to count with his fingers, and he looks so damn adorable that Geralt finds it extremely hard to not just reach out and ruffle his hair. ā€œThomas O'Malley, Toulouse, and Berlioz. So, six!ā€
ā€œItā€™s five, actually,ā€ Geralt tilts his head to the side slightly and corrects him with a fond, little smile. ā€œSoā€¦ youā€™re planning to name your kids after The Aristocats?ā€
ā€œOur kids, mind you. And Iā€™m not straight, love. You canā€™t expect me to do the math, I donā€™t make the rules.ā€
Love.
He just called Geralt ā€˜loveā€™
ā€œHe probably calls ā€˜loveā€™ everyone,ā€ the nurse reminds himself and swallows, not being able to focus on what Jaskier says for a minute or so. ā€œYouā€™re no special.ā€
But the way Jaskier utters that one word, makes him feel like he is lying to himself.
When he can finally focus on what he is saying, Ā Jaskier is still talking about the same topic.
ā€œā€¦and you should be grateful that Iā€™m not planning to name them after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! If weā€™re gonna have more than six, Iā€™m totally doing that though.ā€
ā€œWhy Mr. Pankratz, weā€™re not even married yet. But I already donā€™t have a say in anything, it seems.ā€ Geralt canā€™t help but tease with the young man in return.
Jaskier waves one hand weakly: ā€œDonā€™t take this as my marriage proposal though, Iā€™m better than that. If I were to propose to you I would do that in the most wonderful way. Roses, candles, and everything. Even fireworks.ā€
Geralt remains silent, so Jaskier talks again: ā€œAnd ya know, joking aside, actually we couldnā€™t name them unless we adopted them when they were babies.ā€
ā€œWhy do you want so many kids?ā€ the nurse wonders, raising an eyebrow.
ā€œWell, growing up in a foster care system will do that to you,ā€ Jaskier lets out a loud and somehow cute yawn.
Geralt knows that he wasnā€™t even supposed to ask that, and he shouldnā€™t even listen to Jaskier rambling about his life, which he wonā€™t even remember after the sedative effect wears off.
But he canā€™t suppress his need of knowing more about him.
He just canā€™t.
ā€œWanna adopt as many kids as I can, so I can provide ā€™em a life filled full of love and everything they deserve. All the beautiful things in the universe. All the things I couldnā€™t have when I was a kid.ā€ Jaskier admits, and his words make Geraltā€™s heart clench in his chest.
At that moment, Geralt is sure that he is falling so hard for the musician.
Maybe he already did.
ā€œDonā€™t think that Iā€™m not gonna name our dogs after them though. Or cats.ā€ Jaskier mumbles. He looks like he is just two seconds away from falling into a deep sleep.
Right when he moves to leave, Jaskier grabs his hand as he softly, sweetly whispers, ā€œGeralt, donā€™t leave me.ā€ And he sounds so vulnerable, so weak that the nurseā€™s heart skips a beat in his chest.
Geralt would love to say that he doesnā€™t leave all night, but he has other patients he needs to check on, so he leaves.
But not before staying for five minutes as he holds the musicianā€™s hand, and watches him fall asleep. Nobody needs to know, right?
***
The next day, Jaskier doesnā€™t remember most of the things he had said last night, but somehow he remembers that Geralt had stayed for a while.
That day, feeling guilty about yesterday, Geralt talks about his life.
ā€œItā€™s only fair,ā€ he thinks.
He talks about Ciri, and he lets the musician know how crazy his daughter is about him. That makes Jaskier smile at him warmly, but then again, his smile is always like this.
Warmer than the sun on a hot summer day.
Blushing, Jaskier hesitantly says that he would love to meet her. His big, baby blue eyes seem to be searching for something in Geraltā€™s eyes.
And Geralt understands that he finds whatever he was searching for when Geralt nods and says: ā€œWe would love that, too.ā€
***
ā€œLook! Jaskier finally posted something!ā€ Ciri says one morning while they are having breakfast, well, more like Ciri is having breakfast, and Geralt is just busy with his coffee since he is in a hurry.
ā€œHmm?ā€
ā€œWait, was this an ā€˜Iā€™m Actually Curious About What You Have To Sayā€™ type of ā€˜hmmā€™? Because it definitely didnā€™t sound like your usual ā€˜I Donā€™t Careā€™ type of ā€˜hmmā€™. Nice! That might be the first time you actually seem curious about what I have to say about him.ā€ Ciri smiles, and lets out a sad, little ā€œOh.ā€ After reading whatever Jaskier had posted.
ā€œHe says that he is having some minor health issuesā€¦ā€
Geralt huffs at that.
ā€˜Minor health issuesā€™
If what he had gone through is ā€œminorā€ to Jaskier, Geralt doesnā€™t even want to imagine what ā€œmajor health issuesā€ Ā mean in his dictionary.
But he is sure that the only reason why the musician says ā€œminorā€ is because he doesnā€™t want to worry his fans.
ā€œā€˜I am in good hands thoughā€”I mean it, really really good handsā€”so no need to worry. Love you all, xoxoā€™ Hmmā€¦ I hope itā€™s nothing serious.ā€
The nurse looks at his daughterā€™s phone screen and the excessive amount of winking face emojis after ā€˜really really good handsā€™ part catches his attention.
He tries to hide his smile behind his black coffee mug.
And luckily, he succeeds.
***
A few days later, itā€™s time for Jaskier to be discharged from the hospital. And Geralt feels a bit sad about it, to be honest. Because he is already used to having the young man around.
To his never-ending flirting and jokes, to his smile, to his everything.
But the good thing is, that means that he will be no longer his patient.
Jaskier gives him his number before he leaves, and tells Geralt to call him whenever he is free.
ā€œIā€™m totally getting into another accident and make sure they bring me here if you donā€™t call, Mr. Handsome Nurse,ā€ the musician jokes in a low voice.
ā€œWe wouldnā€™t want that now, would we?ā€ Geralt smiles. ā€œYou can be sure that Iā€™ll call, Jaskier. And we can even have some pasta maybe.ā€
Itā€™s the first time that Geralt calls him by his first name, and the nurse can see how the other manā€™s smile widens when he does that, eyes sparkling.
ā€œWow. Now I have no doubt about how much Ciri talks about me,ā€œ scratching the back of his head, Jaskier chuckles shyly, and itā€™s music to his ears. Ciri is right. He does sound like an angel.
"Till we meet again, Geralt. Till we meet again.ā€

This story has never been posted to tumblr before, but itā€™s still to this day my most popular one shot on Ao3 (by both hits and kudos). I still can hardly believe it because when I wrote it, I honestly didnā€™t think anyone would even read it, much less like it. There are certain expectations for one-night stand fics, and this fulfills none of them. Mainly, thereā€™s no smut. I just loved the concept and had to write it, then was beyond thrilled that other people liked it too!
Summary: Ruby convinces Emma that the best way to finish off her birthday celebration is a one-night stand with the hot British guy at the bar. But, as usual, things never go as Emma plans.

People talk about having a voice on either shoulder. Emma Swan has three. In the form of her three best friends. Ruby sees everything through the lens of fun. If it feels good do it, que-sera-sera and all of that. Sometimes Ruby helps Emma get perspective and lighten up. Other times she just gets her into trouble. Then thereā€™s Mary Margaret, the hopeless romantic who thinks that out there somewhere is Emmaā€™s true love, and once fate leads her to him, Emmaā€™s life will just fall into place. Like what Mary Margaret has with David. Mary Margaretā€™s voice is usually the easiest for Emma to ignore. She stopped believing in fairy tale endings a long time ago. And then thereā€™s Elsa, the practical one. She also just gets Emma because where Emmaā€™s been called prickly, Elsaā€™s been called cold, so she understands Emmaā€™s walls. But she also cuts to the chase and isnā€™t afraid to call Emma out on her crap. The only problem is when the words coming out of Elsaā€™s mouth sound like psycho-babble. So Emmaā€™s constantly got three differing opinions chirping in her ear. Even when they arenā€™t present because she knows in every situation what each of them would say.
All three of them agreed, however, on the best way for Emma to spend her 28th birthday. So she left Henry with Granny and the four of them headed to New York. After a day of shopping and a Broadway show, theyā€™re now in the hotel bar, and Ruby thinks the perfect way for Emma to cap off the day is with a no-strings attached night of passion with a good-looking guy.
ā€œThe last thing someone with Emmaā€™s intimacy issues needs is casual sex, Ruby.ā€
That was cerebral Elsa, of course.
ā€œAlthough,ā€ puts in Mary Margaret, ā€œstriking up a conversation with someone wouldnā€™t be such a bad idea. You never know where it might lead.ā€
ā€œWhere could it possibly lead?ā€ argues Elsa. ā€œWeā€™re on vacation. In a different state.ā€
ā€œWhy does it have to lead anywhere?ā€ Ruby asks with a shrug, ā€œIā€™m just trying to find a guy for her to bang. When was the last time you had sex anyway, Emma?ā€
Mary Margaretā€™s and Elsaā€™s pale cheeks both turn ten shades of red. Elsa is blunt but never crass, and Mary Margaretā€™s never known any man but David, high school sweethearts and all. Ruby does have a point, however, itā€™s been . . . well, Henryā€™s three, so letā€™s just say itā€™s been awhile.
ā€œBesides,ā€ Ruby continues, ā€œif you donā€™t drag that guy over there upstairs, I will. I mean, damn, would you look at him?ā€
All three of them follow Rubyā€™s gaze to the bar, not really expecting to be blown away because, honestly, Ruby didnā€™t get the title man-eater for nothing. But then Emma sees the guy, and ā€“ hot damn! ā€“ Ruby was right. Itā€™s been awhile since Emmaā€™s jaw has dropped just looking at a guy, but itā€™s happening now.
ā€œWhoa,ā€ is all Mary Margaret can say. And thatā€™s actually a lot. She usually only has eyes for David.
ā€œI bet heā€™s an actor on a soap opera,ā€ Ruby giggles, ā€œwith a pretty face like that?ā€
ā€œI wouldnā€™t call him pretty,ā€ Emma says hoarsely. He exudes too much raw masculinity to be called pretty, not to mention the scruff on his face that gives him an edge of mystery.
ā€œI agree with Emma,ā€ Elsa agrees, ā€œI would guess heā€™s a musician. Look at those tight jeans and that leather jacket.ā€
ā€œOh, Iā€™m looking alright,ā€ Ruby purrs.
The guy glances their way (because he feels their eyes boring into him, most likely), and they all hurriedly look away, except for Ruby who grins wolfishly at him and wiggles her fingers in greeting. But the glance was enough for Emma to see how bright blue his eyes are.
ā€œGod, Emma, did you see those eyes?ā€ Ruby asks as she continues to ogle the guy. She smoothes out her skirt and moves to stand. ā€œIā€™m not letting that man candy go to waste, Emma.ā€
Emma clamps her hand down on Rubyā€™s arm. ā€œNow wait just one second. Heā€™s mine.ā€
Ruby smirks at her in triumph while Mary Margaret encourages her to talk to him and get to know him while Elsa keeps admonishing that the whole thingā€™s a bad idea. Emma knocks back one more shot, but not to get her tipsy. She needs to have her faculties to read the guy; sheā€™s not stupid. She just needs a shot of liquid courage. Because Rubyā€™s right ā€“ itā€™s been awhile.
The guyā€™s not stupid either, he glances over her shoulder when Emma approaches him. He knows full well they were checking him out. But his eyes also rake over her approvingly, and itā€™s plain as day heā€™s happy that she approached him. When he opens his mouth, a British accent comes out. The next chance she gets, she glances back over at Ruby and mouths, ā€œOh. My. God.ā€ Then she composes herself, smooths out her hair, and dials up the flirting. Their banter is laced with innuendo and contains absolutely no personal content, which is exactly how Emma likes her one night stands. It only takes one more drink for him to have her pressed against the wall in the elevator. God, heā€™s a good kisser!
They giggle and stumble down the hall to Emmaā€™s room, unable to keep their hands off each other. The door has barely shut behind them when he has her on the bed, trailing open-mouthed kisses down her neck.
Emma doesnā€™t know exactly what happens. One minute sheā€™s moaning as he kisses along her dĆ©colletage, and the next heā€™s sliding the zipper down the side of her too-tight dress and the action is like a bucket of cold water being dumped on her. He gasps and pulls away from her, feeling it too. They both look at each other with wide, panicked eyes and then speak simultaneously.
ā€œI canā€™t do this.ā€
ā€œI canā€™t do this.ā€
He groans and rolls over onto the bed, flinging his arm across his face. Theyā€™re both lying there panting as their heart rates work to get back to a normal rhythm. When they speak again, itā€™s at the exact same time.
ā€œI have a son.ā€
ā€œI have a daughter.ā€
And then theyā€™re both laughing at the absurdity of the situation. They both roll over to face each other, and Emma realizes neither of them are as drunk as they had been pretending to be. Emma props her head on her hand.
ā€œI used to do this all the time. But then I had Henry, and well . . .heā€™s three.ā€
He smiles back at her in understanding. ā€œI used to do this all the time, too. But then I met my wife, and then she died, and now itā€™s just me and Haley . . . sheā€™s five.ā€
He stares at her for a moment, then sighs and stands up. ā€œWell, Iā€™ll be going then.ā€ He says it in such a sad, resigned voice that it breaks Emmaā€™s heart a little. He picks his jacket up off the floor where Emma had pushed it off his shoulders. But before he can put it back on and walk out the door, Emma grabs his hand. Sheā€™s hearing Mary Margaret in her head. You understand each other! Thatā€™s got to mean something.
ā€œYou donā€™t have to go,ā€ she tells him. ā€œWe could watch TV, get room service.ā€ Emma bites her lip, nervous sheā€™s pushed too far.
ā€œSeriously? Because usually when I mention my dead wife and my daughter, women are halfway out the door.ā€
Emma shrugs and gives him a smile, ā€œMen usually do the same when I mention my son. Please stay. I want you to.ā€
ā€œOkay then,ā€ he says, smiling so brightly she can now see he has dimples. He tosses his jacket on the back of a chair. ā€œMy nameā€™s Killian, by the way. Killian Jones.ā€
ā€œEmma Swan.ā€
*************************************************************
Emma wakes up the next morning in Killianā€™s arms, but not because they changed their minds about the sex. Theyā€™re both still fully clothed. Okay, maybe not fully. Killianā€™s in only his boxers and his white v-necked undershirt, and Emma is in a t-shirt and yoga pants. Still, they only did two things last night ā€“ well, three if you count eating way too much candy from the mini-bar, and sex wasnā€™t one of them.
The first was just talk; they never did turn on the TV. Emma would have kicked him out or tackled him in exchange for mindless sex instead if it hadnā€™t been for Elsaā€™s practical voice in her head. This is good, Emma. This is healthy. Amazingly, she told him all about her years growing up in foster care. Far more than she had ever told anyone else. But itā€™s because Killian, it turns out, is an orphan too and has his own tragic stories to tell. At age 13 his brother Liam became old enough to be his guardian, and then he had some semblance of a family.
She tells him how she started sleeping around at fifteen, craving intimacy while fearing it at the same time. She admits that she has no idea who Henryā€™s father is; even if she could narrow down the guy, she wouldnā€™t know his name. Her eyes drop to the mattress at that, but Killian tilts her chin up to look at him. She sees in his eyes that he understands.
He tells Emma how he idolized his brother. So much so that he followed him into the Navy, only to lose him. Itā€™s then that he went off the deep end with liquor and women. He was in a band, too, so one-night stands had been easy to come by. Milah, his wife, owned a pub where his band played frequently. Even though she watched him go home with different women every night, she still fell madly in love with him, and he with her. When Milah got pregnant, he gave up the band, but they were so blissfully happy. Haley was only a year old when Milah got sick ā€“ stage five breast cancer. Six months later, Milah was gone and Killian was alone with an 18 month old baby.
ā€œHaleyā€™s my whole world,ā€ he tells her then, and Emma looks up at him with tenderness in her eyes.
ā€œAnd Henry is mine.ā€
Killian leans down and kisses her then, and itā€™s the most tender kiss Emma has ever known.
So here they are, morning, and Emma is curled up against him, her head on his chest. She thinks heā€™s still asleep until his hand starts rubbing her arm. Killianā€™s touch has heat that lights her on fire from the inside, which reminds her of the other thing they did last night: make out like a couple of teenagers. Even though he canā€™t see her face right now, she blushes as she remembers the moans just light petting had elicited from her. Itā€™s then that reality hits Emma like a Mac truck: what they shared last night was far more intimate than mere sex would have been. She can hear Elsaā€™s voice in her head: Queue the panic. And sure enough, it comes. Emma takes a few deep breaths before slipping as calmly as she can from his embrace. Heā€™s leaving for London this morning. Sheā€™s leaving for Storybrooke. Itā€™s not like this can go anywhere, but she still doesnā€™t want to hurt his feelings.
ā€œHey,ā€ he says sleepily, grabbing her hand as she eases from the bed, ā€œhow about some breakfast.ā€
ā€œOh, um, Iā€™m actually meeting my friends for breakfast,ā€ Emma explains as she shrugs into a hoodie. She stands there regarding him awkwardly, tucking her hair behind her ears and crossing her arms across her chest. It isnā€™t a lie; she really is supposed to meet the others at nine before driving back to Storybrooke.
ā€œOkay,ā€ Killian replies easily as he stands and pulls his jeans back on. He then reaches for the hotel pad of paper and pen on the bedside table and jots something down on it. He rips off the top sheet and hands it to her.
ā€œMy contact information,ā€ he explains with a lopsided grin. His gaze is both gentle and sincere as he continues in a softer voice, ā€œI really like you, Emma. Since we didnā€™t do anything stupid, Iā€™m hoping we can stay in touch. I mean, this wasnā€™t just a one-time thing. Not for me, at least.ā€
Emma gives him a tentative smile as she takes the piece of paper and crams it unceremoniously into the pocket of her hoodie. Killianā€™s gaze follows her movement, and the light in his eyes dims.
ā€œWell,ā€ he says, scratching behind his ear, ā€œIā€™ll take my leave, then.ā€
He shrugs into his shirt without buttoning it up, then heads for the door with his jacket and shoes still in his hand. Emma lets her head fall backward in frustration at herself.
ā€œKillian, wait,ā€ Emma calls after him.
He turns in the doorway, and Emma just stands there, unsure of what exactly she can say. Finally, when he raises his eyebrows at her in confusion, she decides that if sheā€™s never going to see him again, at least she can get one last kiss. So she grabs the gaping lapels of his unbuttoned shirt and hauls him in. He gasps in shock at first, dropping his jacket and shoes with a thud. But he quickly catches up, kissing her back thoroughly until both their lips are swollen. She thinks again that heā€™s the most fantastic kisser sheā€™s ever met.
When they finally part, breathless, Killian rests his forehead against hers and thumbs the dimple in her chin. ā€œI could fall in love with you, Emma Swan,ā€ he whispers, his eyes still closed. He opens them before Emma can look away and she feels as if sheā€™ll drown in the deep blue of those eyes. He traces her cheek with his fingertips, ā€œBut you wonā€™t let me, will you? Youā€™re going to throw away my contact information, arenā€™t you?ā€
Killianā€™s hand drops away and he sighs as Emma remains silent. He bends to retrieve his things, and with a whispered good-bye, walks away from her door.
ā€œI could fall in love with you too, Killian,ā€ she whispers to his retreating form.
But she doubts he heard her.
********************************************************
ā€œSo he spent the night in your room ā€“ the entire night ā€“ but you didnā€™t sleep with him?ā€ Ruby hisses across the table, half-eaten bagel still in her hand.
ā€œWell, technically, we slept,ā€ Emma responds wryly.
ā€œBut no sex? Seriously?ā€ Ruby tears a piece from her bagel violently, but pauses before putting the piece in her mouth as a revelation seems to hit her, ā€œWait, is he gay?ā€
ā€œNo, he is definitely not gay,ā€ Emma states emphatically, feeling infantile when she blushes.
ā€œSo what did you do all night?ā€ Ruby asks incredulously.
ā€œWe talked mostly,ā€ Emma says with a shrug, ā€œand . . . other things.ā€
ā€œWhat other things?ā€ Elsa asks.
ā€œGod, Elsa,ā€ Emma says with a roll of her eyes, ā€œdo I have to spell it out for you? We made out.ā€
Ruby reaches for the collar of Emmaā€™s button-down flannel shirt, exposing the black and blue mark on her neck. ā€œA hickey!ā€ Ruby exults, ā€œHe gave her a hickey!ā€
ā€œQuiet down, Rubes,ā€ Emma hisses as she re-adjusts her collar, ā€œwhat is this, high school?ā€
ā€œSo what did you guys talk about?ā€ Mary Margaret asks eagerly. Only she would be more interested in the conversation.
Emma shrugs again as she spreads jam on a piece of toast, ā€œYou know, just stuff. Our childhoods. Our kids. We talked a lot about our kids.ā€
ā€œHe has kids?ā€ asks Ruby with a wrinkled nose.
ā€œYes, Ruby,ā€ Emma snaps, ā€œkids. Which is probably why we thought twice about having sex with someone we just met.ā€
Rubyā€™s eyes grow large, ā€œHow many does he have?ā€
Emma drops her knife with a clatter, frustrated at Rubyā€™s inquisition, ā€œJust one. A five year old daughter. His wife died three and a half years ago of cancer.ā€
ā€œOh, Emma,ā€ Mary Margaret breathes, ā€œhe sounds wonderful! And itā€™s so romantic that you stayed up all night just kissing and talking. What a gentleman! I hope youā€™ll stay in touch.ā€
Emma shakes her head, ā€œHe wanted to. Gave me his information. But I threw it away.ā€
Mary Margaret gasps in shock, and even Ruby thinks sheā€™s crazy, but Elsa is the cold voice of reason.
ā€œI think Emma is wise to break it off now. Heā€™s a grieving widower with a child. Emma has a child of her own. Not to mention that long-distance relationships never work.ā€
ā€œWhat was he doing in New York?ā€ Mary Margaret asks, ignoring Elsaā€™s cold logic.
ā€œA job interview,ā€ Emma answers, ā€œhe didnā€™t really get into the details.ā€
ā€œSee,ā€ Mary Margaret tells Elsa smugly.
ā€œSee what?ā€ Elsa scoffs with a roll of her eyes. ā€œItā€™s still long-distance. Emma needs to use her head.ā€
ā€œShe needs to follow her heart,ā€ argues Mary Margaret.
ā€œI was thinking of an organ a little farther south,ā€ quips Ruby.
ā€œAnd I would appreciate you all dropping the entire subject,ā€ Emma huffs in frustration.
ā€œEmma,ā€ Mary Margaret whispers urgently, ā€œthere he is!ā€
Emma glances behind her, and sure enough, Killian is sitting at a table on the other side of the room. Heā€™s perusing the menu, so he hasnā€™t noticed her yet. Emma quickly turns back around.
ā€œYep,ā€ Ruby says with a nod, ā€œjust as hot as I remembered.ā€
Elsa narrows her eyes as she takes him in, ā€œActually, Emma, on second thought, maybe using your head in this situation isnā€™t the best course of action.ā€
Mary Margaret nudges Emmaā€™s arm, ā€œGo on, go talk to him. Give him your number!ā€
Emma stands quickly, hands shaking, and tosses some bills onto the table. ā€œThat should cover my order. Iā€™ll see you all in Storybrooke.ā€
Emma then walks as quickly as she can for the hotel exit, ignoring her friends protests. She purposely keeps her head forward, not wanting to see the look of hurt in Killianā€™s eyes as she walks away. Or the look of indifference.
She isnā€™t sure which would be worse. Either way, itā€™s why she doesnā€™t turn around.
************************************************************
A week later, Emma is enjoying her favorite lunch of grilled cheese and onion rings at Grannyā€™s. The buzz around town is that Mayor Mills finally hired a new harbor master, and whoever it is just rolled into town in a black extended cab truck with just a few suitcases and boxes in the back. The type of vehicle combined with the small amount of personal effects has every single woman in town speculating that itā€™s a bachelor. Emma just rolls her eyes at the gossip. The only thing she cares about is how the harbor master does his or her job, since it directly affects hers as sheriff.
Emma is licking the last drop of cheese from her pinkie finger when a little girl scrambles onto the stool next to her. Sheā€™s wearing a tunic shirt covered in daisies over a pair of yellow leggings. Disney princess shoes adorn her feet, the kind that light up when you walk. She has to kneel on the stool so she can reach the counter.
ā€œOne chocolate milkshake please,ā€ the little girl tells Granny in an adorable British accent.
Emma and Granny both raise their eyes, looking around the diner for the childā€™s parents. Emma catches Grannyā€™s eye, and the older woman nods.
ā€œYouā€™re a little young to be ordering all by yourself,ā€ Emma says gently, tipping her head so she can look the child in the eye. ā€œHow old are you, kid?ā€
ā€œWould you believe ten?ā€
Emma suppresses a chuckle and shakes her head.
ā€œEight?ā€ the child sighs as Emma once again shakes her head. ā€œOkay, Iā€™m five.ā€
Emma nods. She wants to get information, and she knows the best way to do that is to play it cool, ā€œSo where are your parents?ā€
The little girl sighs, bites her lip, and then leans closer to Emma, ā€œOkay, see, my dad said we would come here for lunch today. I want a milkshake, but Dad always says no. That I have to eat my lunch first. But I donā€™t want lunch. Canā€™t the milkshake be my lunch?ā€
"So you got here early so you could have the milkshake before he saw you.ā€
The little girlā€™s face brightens, and when she smiles dimples appear on her freckled cheeks. ā€œExactly!ā€
Emma leans forward, ā€œThe problem is, Iā€™m a mom, so Iā€™m not going to let you either.ā€
The little girl scowls and crosses her arms, ā€œBut youā€™re not my mum.ā€
ā€œBut you do need money, kid,ā€ Granny tells the child gruffly.
The little girl swivels on her stool to face Granny, reaching smugly into the pocket of her tunic. She pulls out a ten dollar bill with a flourish and smacks it down onto the counter. ā€œWill that cover it?ā€
Emmaā€™s hand flies to her mouth as she suppresses her laughter. This kid is the most precocious, sassy little thing sheā€™s ever seen. Once Emma has composed herself, she leans over the counter towards the child and speaks to her sternly. ā€œYou know what else I am besides a mom, kid? The sheriff of this town.ā€ The little girlā€™s eyes grow large. ā€œWhere did you get that money?ā€
The child quirks one dark eyebrow and tilts her chin defiantly. ā€œMy allowance.ā€
ā€œIā€™m gonna let you in on a little secret, kid. I have this gift ā€“ weā€™ll call it a super power ā€“ I can tell when people are lying to me. So Iā€™ll ask you again. Whereā€™d you get the money?ā€
The little girl sighs and lowers her head, ā€œMy dadā€™s wallet.ā€
ā€œWhatā€™s your name, kid?ā€
ā€œHaley.ā€
Emma feels as if the room is suddenly spinning. She blinks and looks the little girl over. Dark hair, bright blue eyes, British accent. It couldnā€™t be . . .
ā€œHaley Elizabeth Jones!ā€ another British voice calls out from the door of the diner. Emmaā€™s jaw drops as Killian Jones himself rushes towards her. But he doesnā€™t even see Emma, too intent on his little girl who he hugs tightly to his chest. ā€œBloody hell, lass, you just took ten years off my life! Never, never, wander away like that!ā€
ā€œIā€™m sorry, Daddy,ā€ Haley mumbles against Killianā€™s neck as she throws her little arms around him. Killian pulls away and looks her over, running a hand over his little girlā€™s hair and over her shoulder as if she might be hurt. Haley sheepishly takes the ten dollar bill and hands it to him. ā€œI took the money from your wallet, too. Iā€™m sorry. The sheriff lady caught me.ā€
Killian finally turns towards Emma then and blinks rapidly as if heā€™s seen a ghost. ā€œSwan?ā€
ā€œKillian,ā€ Emma breathes, her hand fluttering to the pale mark still on her neck. The way theyā€™re grinning at each other like idiots and blushing like fools, you would think they had actually had sex. ā€œWhat are you ā€“ what are you doing here?ā€
ā€œI got the job,ā€ he explains, ā€œthe one I was telling you about.ā€
ā€œYou mean, youā€™re the new harbor master?ā€ Killian nods and Emma shakes her head in confusion. ā€œBut your interview was in New York.ā€
ā€œMayor Mills had some business there anyway, and she thought travel would be easier for me from London. I thought the change would be good for Haley. Living in a small town and all.ā€
They just stand there staring at each other until Haley pipes up. ā€œThe sheriff says sheā€™s a mum too, Daddy,ā€ Haley takes Emmaā€™s hands in hers and looks at them intently. ā€œBut she doesnā€™t have a wedding ring. Are you married, sheriff lady?ā€
ā€œNo, sweetie,ā€ Emma says with a mirthful smile, ā€œIā€™m not married.ā€
ā€œThatā€™s great! My daddy isnā€™t married either, and I need a mum!ā€
ā€œOkaaaay,ā€ Killian chuckles nervously as he scoops Haley up into his arms. He turns to Emma blushing furiously, ā€œIā€™m gonna get this lass home. And then Iā€™m gonna dig myself a really deep hole and crawl into it.ā€
He scratches behind his ear with his free hand as he turns towards the door, still carrying Haley. Mary Margaretā€™s voice is suddenly in Emmaā€™s head, chirping on about fate and destiny, which propels Emma off her stool.
ā€œKillian, wait.ā€
He turns towards her, that lopsided grin of his on his face.
ā€œI know how it is unpacking. I was thinking Henry and I could stop by later with a couple of pizzas.ā€
ā€œI appreciate that, Ms. Swan. Thatā€™s very hospitable of you.ā€
Okay, sheā€™s going to have to be far more direct. ā€œI was hoping Henry and I could eat with the two of you. We could consider it our second unconventional date.ā€
His eyes crinkle at the corners as his smile widens. ā€œReally?ā€
ā€œYeah,ā€ Emma says, smiling back, ā€œthis thing we started; may as well see where it goes, right?ā€
Hope sparkles in Killianā€™s eyes. ā€œRight. See you tonight, Swan.ā€
Behind the counter, Granny canā€™t hold her laughter back any longer when Haley pumps her little fist into the air and crows, ā€œYES! Iā€™m getting a mum!ā€
It turns out the little girl was right. Eight months later, Haley Jones has a mum and Henry Swan Jones has a dad. Turns out Mary Margaret was right all along: thereā€™s nothing hopeless about being a romantic.

in which lee rambles about how great writers are
I donā€™t really know what this is. I donā€™t know if now is the right time to do this, or a really bad time, or if it makes any sense, but I want to talk about it! I feel like a broken record saying ā€˜the writing matters most, the writing matters mostā€™ but maybe I need to show what I mean by that? So, here is an attempt.Ā
Iā€™m sorry not all of these are the same length and not everyone is here, because every time I see that someone is a writer I do try to follow but I donā€™t always know/remember! Also I am weird about this sort of thing and donā€™t want to tag people in a monster-long post, so Iā€™m just going to link. I also donā€™t want to make this a producers vs writers thing, itā€™s not, itā€™s just, when I say I notice writer-stuff, an explanation of what, specifically, I mean.Ā
Writers have a style fingerprint. Iā€™m sure someone with an actual creative writing or English background could describe it all academic-ly, but my ex-chemist ass is just going to call it a fingerprint.Ā
My first game in Lovestruck was Starship Promise - I love Firefly, Iā€™m a bisexual disaster scientist by education, it fit. But I had been REALLY put off by GIL when it first came out (this was back when they released stories in parts? And the heroine, which I will get to) and though Iā€™d glanced at AFK, I mistrusted it after GIL and Medusa, who was who I was interested in, wasnā€™t out yet. So I resisted a LONG time.Ā  I finally picked up LS and SP and played it explicitly because a friend said, you need to give this another chance, for a list of specific reasons.Ā
And when Atlasā€™s route came out, I read it a stupid number of times. I must have re-read his season 1 & 2 at least eight times apiece (he is still my most read route, despite the fact I have not read his last season because I want to leave the story open-ended)Ā  so when I read Neil Dresnerā€™s route, I recognized the fingerprint. Not only that, when I was reading Jett and the episodes with the paint scene (YOU KNOW THE SCENE) came out, my breath caught with how lovely it was, a particular in-between moment and touch, and even though it wasnā€™t a phrase I had seen, the style of it, had me re-reading (because it was gorgeous) again and again from the log for like five minutes and I thought, ā€œI bet Melissa wrote thisā€ AND SHE DID.Ā
Physical touch! (& in-betweens)
Melissa-grey has a particular way of writing about physical touch in very emotional moments that is very real and grounded and ironically the effect is just magical. It creates these so skillful ā€œin betweenā€ moments, those little things that arenā€™t dialogue and arenā€™t metaphor but SHOW you that this closed off person is cracking for their little ray of sunshine. They are SO subtle and so beautiful, like, the heroine noticing the scent of a pillow, or a softening of an aborted hand movement.Ā  She sets up and executes these moments of physical touch as a conduit for emotional touch with characters who arenā€™t ready to admit he latter and itā€™s DELICIOUS. Those little in-betweens are what I live for in story - and it includes all the supporting cast moments, who swell up to make the world feel lived in, and balanced (I loathe love stories where no one else exists! Thatā€™s a recipe for disaster, people need networks) I noticed when she stopped writing, and because I missed it, I went and bought the entire Midnight Girl series, as well as Rated (I hope that is flattering and not creepy!) and that style of writing is so unique, that without KNOWING, I picked it up in four separate routes (noticed in Sevā€™s s1, too!)Ā
Pacing (& friggen heartache)
Another fingerprint! Ripping your heart out! Arthoure has had me in tears, MULTIPLE TIMES and I get very grouchy about it every time because I am the least sentimental and romantic person that I know (I once MOVED STATES to avoid an ā€˜I love youā€™ conversation. I once said ā€˜yikesā€™ in response to an ā€˜I love youā€™ and I once broke up with someone because I thought he was going to propose. Iā€™m a bitch) but I think itā€™s because of pacing! I know that producers play a role in that, but that actually makes it more impressive, because making each bit of story feel like it fits precisely the amount of space it needs when you donā€™t really get a say in how much space that is has got to take a MASSIVE amount of effort. Every little hint, every emotional beat, every character tell, they drop at a consistent build so the emotional payoff is just brutal (in a good, cathartic way?) every time a route makes me cry I wait and see and YEAH ITS ALWAYS ARTHOURE. The sweep and sentiment of Remyā€™s season 2 is unparalleled. Across Time is gutwrenching, and I actually stopped reading Renzei at one point because I was so emotional over it I had to like, LEGIT TAKE A BREAK to recover. Pacing and heartache. I have to stop and wonder - is it because the routes themselves are so gut-punching? OR is it because she knows how to wring every last emotional drop out of whatever story framework is handed to her? Because, Ezekielā€™s villain costume is a bit silly (there I said it, it is)Ā I get the cobra helmet shape in theory but in practice, ooof, but POINT BEING despite being skeptical Iā€™d be able to take his story seriously as a result, I was hiccuping from crying so much (and I am gosh darn adult, in my thirties, with three degrees and a high-stress job at pretty major company. I DONā€™T CRY EASY)
Ā Dialogue (& heroines!)
Xekstrin is the gosh damn master of dialogue. Clever, witty banter that doesnā€™t go where you expect it to, meandering but natural topic changes that are delightful to follow and feel real, and--special shoutout for this, okay--the navigation of viscerally important topics like consent, kink, self-worth, power in relationships, self-sacrifice, and apologies in a way that is not stilted or forced at all (listen, I know Viv & Lyris are the most recent and they are amazing but I remember this first hit me when I was reading Astraeus, and I spent half the route with my jaw on the floor going, oh shit,Ā  oh shit. The communication! The navigation of the complexity of emotion going on, chefā€™s kiss! Casual isnā€™t the right word, but, natural, maybe?). I donā€™t actually take that many screenshots of the app--itā€™s usually single lines that get me--but when I do, they are almost always conversations from one of her routes, because theyā€™re so damn good, and often so unexpected, and yet always make such perfect sense for the characters involved. Dialogue is SO HARD OKAY. Actually try and transcribe a conversation sometime, itā€™s nuts how people talk vs how most people write people talking. Xekstrin also writes some of my absolute favorite MCs, and going back to fingerprints, I was reading Lyris s1 and right there in the first tavern scene, as we were following along with the heroineā€™s thoughts I went, ah, yes, I know who you belong to and I am SO EXCITED. Being able to give the heroine unique thoughts and quirks, to make her genuinely relatable, without overriding the necessary template of the genre dictates, is a skill all of its own. But I love her MCs! There is a beautiful balance of compassion, competence, and dash of bratty, wild, fun mischief. I can actually cheer for them. I can actually get behind them. I WANT the love interest to flop at their feet for who they are, not just because the story says so. And that comes from how the heroineā€™s thoughts are written, from her phrasing in conversations, how she sees situations, not just a producer saying ā€˜she is a strong lead who is self conscious about her ears and sheā€™s nervous in the council meetingā€™ or whatever. I AM REALLY STRUGGLING to articulate this if you canā€™t tell from how long I have been blathering. Maybe this - the heroine is the same across every route, presumably, yes? Everyone has the same base. I NEVER question, when xekstrin is writing, why the love interest falls in love with her. Side note - I had hard written off GIL after a bad experience with the standalone app. I only read Aurora BECAUSE I learned she wrote it, and I would have SO MISSED OUT otherwise.
A complete aside in which Lee grumbles about heroines and not writers!
(Complete side vent: Often, the heroine is, if not a blank slate, a sort of collection of assigned traits, and she often remains so unless the story demands she become otherwise. Which is fine! I donā€™t personally, but I know a lot of folks self-insert, and so erring towards that makes sense. Almost all the otome Iā€™ve played were originally written for a Japanese audience. When I played original Voltage games, starting back in 2014, I always had to remind myself - different culture, different culture, different culture, and it was not possible for me to relate to most of the heroines. I still enjoyed the stories, but I rarely cheered for the heroineā€™s romance, especially in some of the slice of life stories. I understood her, but I rarely wanted her to get with the love interest, I wanted her success to come in other ways! Another game company, Cybird, tried to ā€˜Americanizeā€™ their heroine to IMO disastrous effect - it was such a stereotype, and made no sense since they didnā€™t also Americanize the context, so she come across as, frankly, ridiculous. And frankly, Voltageā€™s GIL heroine REEKED OF THAT. When they first posted her on social media I was legitimately annoyed about it, like could you lean into this more? I think not. So when I talk about being able to relate to and cheer for the heroine, itā€™s a big deal, because my blatant mistrust of Voltage and their ability to craft a heroine I could tolerate was a BIG factor in how long it took me to give Lovestruck a try. I was willing to tolerate it in translated stories, I was so skeptical of -en only ones.)Ā
Metaphors (& balance)
literacouture writes beautiful metaphors for connection between humans! Iā€™m really bad at keeping track of who writes what, but I purposefully kept an eye out on tumblr after reading Calā€™s route, because there were some lines that were pure poetry, and I wanted to keep an eye out for more. It is HARD to spin metaphors prettily without delving into trite, painful, purple prose cringe territory, and itā€™s navigated beautifully in Calā€™s route. Thereā€™s a balance between those spin-out moments and things that are tangible and anchoring and make it feel authentic and unique to the two characters involved, instead of just ā€˜I am trying to make this sound romantic and this is a romantic phrase so here it isā€™. That balance is really necessary. You NEED the mundane alongside the metaphor or it doesnā€™t feel authentic.Ā Also. Trying really hard to write this without throwing any authors or producers under the bus, but...listen. I love Sin with Me. But the world logic (or LACK THEREOF) drives me up a wall. I donā€™t read Cal because of his character traits or sprite or (sigh) his story. I read him because literacouture writes a beautiful romance.
Ā So anyway...
There are more! When I am less tired and donā€™t have meetings, I will try and write them up (Please know there are so many routes I love, and so many things I do recognize across chapters! I donā€™t even HAVE words for whatĀ theivorytowercrumblesĀ accomplished with Helenaā€™s story not to mention how much I adore Cyprin,Ā  SummerLightningā€™s handling of Onyxā€™s past relationship was so deftly done when it could have so quickly becomeĀ ā€˜milk abuse for plotā€™ and joidecombatĀ gave Sev a fresh, mischievous energy and navigated the dream/reality line with SUCH skill, and so on and so on.)
Iā€™ve written a lot of reviews. And I try to give nods where I feel theyā€™re due - sometimes, it really is obvious that the whole teamā€™s work came together to makes something great, the world, the plot, the arc, the art, the words, and the music all fit into place in aĀ  well-crafted tour de force. And sometimes one piece or another is lacking, and Iā€™ll admit Iā€™ve left some...less than kind reviews to that end (I try and soften it, because I know there are humans on the other side of everything, but Iā€™ve been harsh more than once with my opinions).Ā  Iā€™ve read routes with plots that made me want to tear my hair out because I DO value consistency and logic to a degree, even if Iā€™m going to accept at face value that, say, space travel is a thing or demons turn to sand when stabbed.Ā
In the end, these are romance stories. So I will let a lot slide when it comes to plot. What sells a story are the words - not the outline.
And if Voltage doesnā€™t believe that - just remember that Hamlet existed long, long before Shakespeare wrote it. His was the version that lasted, because the people liked it best. The plot, the world, the characters, they all existed a hundred times over. Even just look at fan translations of manga. Why do people keep translating, even if someone else has? Because the words someone else picked donā€™t do the story justice.Ā
I donā€™t know. Iā€™m talking in circles because I donā€™t know my own thesis!Ā
Maybe itā€™s just - the worlds these stories in are nice. But when I say Iā€™m a fan of something, the premise is like. 10%.Ā The rest is the writing.Ā

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...
Writing journey #4.
15/05/2021 07.22 My break has officially been over for five days, and i have done some writing, but itā€™s been incredibly inconsistent, so I decided to start this blog post over. Bay Tree has been archived, and though FSB isnā€™t done, Iā€™ve realised I need to take a step back. Itā€™s why writers leave weeks at a time between drafts--so when they return, theyā€™re in a different mindset, and can improve their work.
For this same reason, I need to take a step back before I finish my outline. My thought process is becoming monotonous, which means Iā€™m losing my excitement. When you start a project, you have the idea in your head as perfect, and when thoseĀ ā€˜vibesā€™ become tangible, it is less exciting. Thatā€™s unavoidable. But I just need to take a step back, so when I return, I have fresh ideas, and the plot becomes more exciting to me.
So today, Iā€™m going to start brainstorming a new idea I had, which I donā€™t have an alias for yet, and I have an idea to essentially bind every project I have together, but not in Grishaverse- or Shadowhunters-style where you need to read ten books just to read the one you want. Just a nod to anyone who does read multiple, like when Aelin falls through worlds and sees Rhys and Feyre for a split second.
So. Letā€™s brainstorm.
My plan, I think, is to alternate weekly. This week, Iā€™ll work on the new one, next week Iā€™ll do FSB. I could just take this new idea and apply it to FSB, except I just donā€™t see how that would work. I have different worlds in mind, and this new one is a fantasy where FSB is sci-fi(/fantasy. Itā€™s kinda both).
16/05/2021 07.07 I really wish I was a pantser. Even though I havenā€™t got to the editing stage, my favourite part of writing is implementing new ideas and making changes, but Iā€™m just not a pantser. I need to know where each part is going. Instead, I have to sit here, brainstorming, for days, to figure everything out.
18/05/2021 07.06 I did a lot of work on the 16th, but I was busy yesterday, and didnā€™t get any writing done, because, when I was free, I was just reading. So, Iā€™ve decided Iā€™m going to at least write before I leave the house, which gives me about 45 minutes this morning.Ā
23/05/2021 18.30 Based on the fact it has been five days, I think you can tell how good Iā€™ve been about keeping writing. The problem is that I donā€™t actually have much past a concept for my new project, so Iā€™m trying to figure out how, precisely, I could merge the two projects. FSB is interesting, but doesnā€™t have a huge amount of depth, which adding the characters from the new project would absolutely do, while the new project is lacking plot, which FSB (at least the first book Iā€™ve planned) does. So, Iā€™m going to start a new Scrivener project, and consider how I can merge the two concepts while implementing both plots.
Is it too much? I have only two main characters in FSB, but five in the newer one, which gives me seven main characters, divided into three groups. And do I want to write a book with so many separate storylines? I know readers (myself included) always end up favouring one storyline over another, getting annoyed when certain POVs come up. I donā€™t know what to do.
I could keep the new project, but implement FSB? Hold up. New Project (NP) has two protagonists who could undergo a similar development to the protagonists of FSB... I had a plan for the male protagonist of FSB, his arc, which wouldnā€™t work for NPā€™s male protagonist, but would work perfectly for its female protagonist...
Tumblrā€™s glitching. It wouldnā€™t let me reblog a post earlier, and now it wonā€™t let me save this draft. Please, no.
Okay, so I had to copy what Iā€™d written for today, disconnect and reconnect to the Wi-Fi, then wait for my drafts to load to paste it. Going great!
21.00 So I didnā€™t get a huge amount done, because I caught up doing ~evening things~, but I at least have a plan going forward, which is an accomplishment
30/05/2021 09.29Ā Iā€™ve spent the last couple weeks doing everything I can to avoid writing, but i now have an insane amount of free time, so I have no excuse. I want to use this time in a productive way, and, for me, that means writing.
03/06/2021 10.31 I swear to god, Iā€™ve hadĀ ā€˜writingā€™ on my to-do list every single day, except not doing it is probably my own fault, because itā€™s been so far down on the list. Also, Iā€™m doing a buddy read, but am also unfortunately descending into a reading slump, so even reading 50 pages takes me about 90 minutes--theyā€™re not even long pages.
I actually went back onto my old Wattpad account earlier, where I found a load of old, unfinished stuff, but none of it was as bad as I thought it would be, and the ideas werenā€™t bad. I just really have no idea what it is Iā€™m writing right now, and I hate trying to figure it out.
11.30Ā There are so many Ss in the wordĀ ā€˜assassinā€™ this is not okay.
This is actually going so well. I have two storylines in my head, a complex cast of characters, and Iā€™m so looking forward to plotting this.
04/06/2021 08.04 Look at me, two days in a row. Anyways, Iā€™m thinking I ought to name these characters ASAP, because itā€™ll be easier to shape them to their names than it will be to find a name which fits them once theyā€™ve been shaped.
14.41 Hereā€™s what Iā€™m realising: I like to pants plots, but I canā€™t do that while Iā€™m actually drafting, so I think my plan is actually to bullet point everything that happens, then revise that, then start drafting, so the story is basically set in the first draft.
Iā€™ve actually gone through a lot of stuff--I have workable plot material!
17.16 So, me being me, Iā€™ve semi-outlined (I say semi-, itā€™s more like a tenth) a trilogy, meaning I have ideas for three books following this storyline, and it... makes sense. Itā€™s the kind of story where I can follow multiple arcs, a few at a time, instead of several overarching ones, or maybe itā€™s just that Iā€™m letting myself.
07/06/2021 16.44 I donā€™t have a damn clue what Iā€™ve spent the day doing. I havenā€™t done anything in a couple days because it was the weekend and I was busy, but Iā€™m back now. The thing is, I havenā€™t spent the day reading, watching, drawing, or doing anything, really--itā€™s escaped me. But, at the very least, Iā€™ve relaxed, so who cares?
Iā€™m not applying story structure to the ideas Iā€™m having quite yet--rather, Iā€™m just developing them to see how they bloom on their own, then Iā€™ll fit it in; it just seems like a more natural and effective way to develop.
Yeah, no. Itā€™s too late in the day for this. I have zero motivation.
08/06/2021 09.49 Maybe Iā€™ll accomplish something today; who knows? Certainly not me.
Iā€™m now applying the 3-act structure, but Iā€™m realising I have way too many details worked out for this--switching to more acts.
22.20Ā Why am I doing this to myself? I wish I could say Iā€™m not entirely sure, but itā€™s because I canā€™t sleep, because this project, and my character Lihan, are the only things I can think about, so here I am. I donā€™t want to be a night writer, but que sera sera (I wish I could type accents on an English keyboard).
23.22 I accomplished more in the last hour on this project than I have in the last four days.
09/06/2021 - 1,115 words 09.29 I really hope I donā€™t prove today that night-writing is my sweet spot--I donā€™t want it to be. Can the world just let me have a functional sleep schedule??
Anyways, so, as Iā€™ve mentioned before, I use Scrivener, which enables me to sort which documents are part of the manuscript from the ones that arenā€™t. Iā€™ve been working outside of the manuscript, but I think Iā€™m going to move them into it--I have a plan I believe will be more effective for my own drafting. I think I very much need the events to be set in stone before I begin writing in actual prose, so how can I do that? Especially when I also enjoy pantsing, but not in prose?
Hereā€™s the plan: I plot out the main events, then bullet point everything in very high detail, similar to what many people call a zero draft, in which they draft a book in short form. Iā€™ll sort the bullet points into chapters (but not scenes, because as I discovered with Bay Tree, I find scene-blocking makes the narrative less natural), leave it alone a while, then revise, so I can have my plot more-or-less set in stone before I work on prose.
As a result, Iā€™m going to shift my plotting into the manuscript section, because it is, essentially, an early draft, and also I want a word count as a progress metre.
13/06/2021 - 1,611 words 8.18Ā Alas, I have been busy the last few days, but Iā€™m here now.
9.20 The amount of secrets and who-knows-what in this story is genuinely absurd, but Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll clean it up eventually.
14.01 A few days ago, I came across a post about balancing large casts, which is exactly what I have, and the first thing it mentioned was the two-trait rule, in which every character has two traits completely unique to them, to help both reader and writer differentiate. Which Iā€™m now going to implement.
14.42 I have these two characters, and I know exactly what I want their dynamic to be, except I canā€™t decide who should be which part of it.
I have made my decision. It probably works better now, but it does alter their roles, so I need to fix that.
I literally swapped them round solely because I decided one was taller than the other and thought it would be more interesting if the short one was the sadist. Why do I make my own life so difficult?
14/06/2021 - 1,574 words 11.08 I didnā€™t make an enormous amount of progress yesterday, but I did make some, and made notes of ideas for relationship arcs last night, so I count that a victory (forced optimism--surprisingly effective). Iā€™m currently just working through bullet-pointing book one, while making notes of events I want in the rest of the series (Iā€™m projecting three books, and telling myself I will finish them). Iā€™m currently fiddling with one of my storylines to see how I can mould it to FSBā€™s and OH MY GOODNESS I JUST HAD A GREAT IDEA must take notes, one moment pleaseeee.
Okay, so I have four bullet points for relationship arcs and an idea to adjust one of the storylines--Iā€™d say I have six main characters, two of whom are really the protagonists, two of which are my favourites, and the other two are fun, but in need of development. Theyā€™re split into a group of four and a pair, and Iā€™m definitely more into the storyline of the four, mostly because the four contains my two favourites, and itā€™s more developed than that of the pair.
Iā€™ve been keeping a list of things to add: motivations, loose plot threads, plot points I want to include--I really need to re-organise it.
On another note, I am so glad I named the characters as early as I did. Iā€™m debating having two of the characters swap names, but I donā€™t think I will, because I will absolutely mix them up, and one of them is part of the perfect ship name.
My mouse isnā€™t working. I changed the batteries, but itā€™s not working, so now I get the joy of trying to figure out if the batteries I put in are just old or if the mouse no longer works, which would suck.
Yes, Iā€™m going to describe this. Mostly because when I changed the batteries the first time, it took a minute to stop working, and this will waste a minute. So, first set of batteries, which weā€™ll call set 1, donā€™t work. I donā€™t know if itā€™s both or just one, but if itā€™s one, I donā€™t want to throw away both. I take out set 1, I put in set 2. Set 2 works perfectly. So itā€™s not the mouse. Now I take out battery 2B, and replace it with 1A, so I have 1A and 2A in here. I know 2A works, but Iā€™m not sure about 1A, but the mouse works, so 1A is fine. Letā€™s replace 1A with 1B.
Yep. 1B is the problem child. 1A works fine, but 1B doesnā€™t. Lovely. Crisis averted. It wouldā€™ve really sucked it I had to get a new mouse. And back to writing!
12.13 Iā€™m bouncing between documents as I organise, which means my word count is actually decreasing, so I feel like Iā€™m making significantly less progress than I am.
I just realised my two protagonists are cousins. Iā€™ve had it in my head that oneā€™s father was the brother of the otherā€™s father, but somehow I didnā€™t realise that makes them cousins.
Iā€™m about to delete a list because Iā€™ve reformatted it--my word count is currently at 1,958, but is really about to drop.
AND NOW WEā€™RE AT 1,572. My session word count is -32. Minus thirty-two. I hate it here, but itā€™s fine, because weā€™re ~developing~.
15/06/2021 - 2,113 words 09.39 Itā€™s not even technically summer yet, but itā€™s too hot, and I hate it here. All the windows are open, so everythingā€™s cool, thereā€™s a nice breeze, and lots of light, but the birds are so loud, and I have to keep all the doors closed because the open windows send them swaying and slamming. You know when you close a door when all the windows are open and it slams? Yep. Not into it.Ā
I feel like every day I try a new way to organise my plotting. Iā€™m unsure as to whether thatā€™s helping me or holding me back, because it forces me to review what I have, which usually sparks new ideas, but Iā€™m not convinced Iā€™ll ever get to the end as long as I keep doing this.
21/06/2021 13.40 I spent the latter half of last week with zero motivation, then I was busy at the weekend, but Iā€™m here now. Iā€™ve been trying to make myself write basically all day--I have a plan, and a list of things Iā€™ve come up with the last few days, but I just couldnā€™t make myself do it. Iā€™m not in a good mood, but maybe this will help.
I have, however, just reminded myself that I need to prepare this weekā€™s post, because I sincerely doubt either this or my ongoing Recent reads will be ready for Friday. Actually, if I do quite a bit of writing this week, this post might be, but Iā€™m not willing to bet on it.
And oh, crap, now I just want to write a blog post.
No. No I donā€™t. I started looking at the list of ideas I had, and now Iā€™m just not feeling it. Iā€™m pretty sure when I open my document for this project Iā€™ll lose all motivation too, but itā€™s worth a shot.
Thereā€™s a specific relationship in an anime I recently watched that I want to pull apart--thereā€™s this ship, and the author of the manga has called the two charactersĀ ā€˜soulmatesā€™. Thereā€™s just this huge amount of tension between the two, and I want to re-watch the show because I love it, but also so I can take notes to figure out what was so effective about it.
13.53 Iā€™ve been doing this for 13 minutes, but I do think I need to leave this project/outline alone for a bit, give it an opportunity to ruminate, to evolve. In truth, I may not even come back to it until Iā€™ve re-watched the anime I was talking about so I can tear that ship to pieces.
17.33 So I just learned brainstorming is apparently significantly easier on paper. Hm. Iā€™ve just worked out so damn much, stuff Iā€™ve been struggling with.
18.00 I have successfully tied up so many plot threads, simply by working with pen and paper. This is revolutionary. (I know, not really, but it is for me, someone adamant about working with a keyboard and monitor)
22/06/2021 09.42 Seriously, why did I never try actually working on paper before? Something about holding a pen to paper and scribbling and drawing a mindmap--it just works. Iā€™ve been obstinate about avoiding working on paper because I hate physically writing, yet here we are.
25/06/2021 11.09 Iā€™m really not managing much reading at the moment--since I started reading manga, my attention span has just gone down the drain. Iā€™m currently reading Mister ImpossibleĀ by Maggie Stiefvater, and I donā€™t think it helped that I had to stop less than a third of the way in to do a buddy read, but I just donā€™t have much motivation to read it, though I do so want to. I havenā€™t been listening much to audiobooks lately either, because when Iā€™d usually listen--when Iā€™m getting dressed, waking up, going to bed etc.--I just want to listen to music, because I also recently fell down the well of k-pop, and the group whose discography Iā€™m getting to know at the moment is BTS. Basic, but theyā€™re the fifth group Iā€™m doing, and they have so many songs. Which would happen after eight years, but still.
I want to read so, so badly, but I just donā€™t feel like reading Mister Impossible. But I do want to finish it before reading anything else. I think Iā€™ll finish my current audiobook, then if Iā€™m still feeling stagnated in Mister Impossible, Iā€™ll switch to the audiobook of that, then just take a break from reading until Iā€™m ready to actually read.Ā
But this post is for writing, not reading. I did write on the 23rd, but I just didnā€™t update this post. The 24th I was busy, but my wall is now covered in post-it notes of world-building, characters, gods, plot points, and a whole load of other stuff.
Also, I had an idea for a book title this morning--not for this one, just in general--and when I went to add it to my list, I found a title that would so suit this project. I donā€™t want to say it, but letā€™s just say this project will be called ItLotG--or not. Thatā€™s a hideous combination of letters. I promise it is actually a good title.
11.52 Iā€™m having another crisis over these two characters. Iā€™m thinking it would make more sense to have Lā€™s betrayalĀ ā€˜arcā€™ initiated before the catalyst, or rather have it be the catalyst, except the problem there is that theyā€™re not in the city they need to be in to receive that offer.
UNLESS,,,, what if this point happens just while theyā€™re in the capital.... Iā€™ve got it.Ā
17.16 Iā€™ve been taking notes this whole time of everything I want to happen in books 2 and 3, and I have so much now i think theyā€™ll be so much easier to plot than this one.
The downside of working mostly on paper is that my plans on Scrivener have been refined to one document, which is now only 878 words.
Right now, thereā€™s a glaring hole between the midpoint and the ending, but my climax is one of those where the climax itself is a very small part of a bigger event, so if I figure out what I want to happen in this big event which is essentially the whole of the third act, I should be able to fill in the rest of Act Two with the setup for that.
So Iā€™m leaving it there for both today and this post. In the last month or so, I decided to start over and mash two projects together, which created a whole new storyline I love, and now Iā€™m mostly done with the first outline. I want to treat outlines as more than just preparation for drafts, because I find notes so much easier to edit than actual prose, and I hate writing without a clear idea of where Iā€™m going.Ā
I think Iā€™m going to call theseĀ ā€˜runsā€™--an outline is a run through, a draft a run through, so Iā€™m nearly done with my first run, and Iā€™m very proud of that, so go, go write the idea you have, drink some water, take a nap if you need one, eat if you havenā€™t eaten in a few hours, and Iā€™ll be back with another writing update innnnnnn probably august, honestly.
Go write that idea!

synopsis. Yuuei's notorious bad boy Bakugou Katsuki was the student you crossed off your potential secret admirer list without reluctance. Because surely, the explosive foul mouthed boy knew nothing about the flowers you receive anonymously, right?
pairing.Ā Bakugou Katsuki x Reader
genre. fluff
authorā€™s note.Ā first imagine lezzgoo!! inspired by a comic post i saw on tumblr long ago and immediately thought of my man kacchan
Tumblr media
You love a lot of things.
From chocolates, to flowers, to your lovely group of friends, and to a certain classmate of yours named Bakugou Katsuki; you love them all dearly.
You thought that only your friends returned that love, but it seemed like even the flowers came to love you back as well.
When you entered your classroom on a normal school day, the students were louder than usual with their shrieks and coos instantly greeting you.Ā
Almost the whole class of 1-A (Todoroki simply didn't give any care and Bakugou looked pissed off more than usual) were huddled around your assigned seat, all babbling excitedly to each other about some secret admirer that didn't make any sense to you at all. Eyebrows wiggling suggestively and knowing smirks were all directed towards you. Confused out of your mind, you approached the small buzzing crowd to see what they were so incredibly excited about.Ā
Turns out a delicately beautiful red tulip was left on your desk by a classmate of yours that was yet to be named.
Days passed and nothing changed. Endless teasing, the lovely flowers awaiting you, and no one still admitting they were the anonymous person planting a smile on your face.
Everyday, different kinds of the prettiest flowers were always present in places you were at the most: your classroom desk, your usual table in the cafeteria, and even on the doorstep of your dorm room. You stored the various flowers on vases, some taped on the wall serving as decoration, and some just idly laying around. Even with the majority of the flowers wither, you still thought it gave more life to your once plain room.
This small act indeed flattered you to no extent and you do enjoy receiving all these little gifts, but it was starting to get frustrating as you unfortunately have no idea who could have been giving you flowers. No notes, no clues, no anything given to help you know even a name!
Midoriya? Yeah, he is adorable and makes your heart swoon, but you are pretty confident your ultimate ship with him and Uraraka stands real.
Todoroki? Honestly, that boy is too perfect for you
Kirishima? Your right hand man in investigating.
Bakugou?Ā
You could only laugh, as if.
Ever since you stepped foot in Yuuei, Bakugou Katsuki's aggressive and arrogant personality managed to make you harbor some kind of romantic feelings towards him. With his mindset on becoming the Number One Hero as his only priority, and the clear annoyance and hatred he shows to each student, you couldn't admit to yourself that you admired him more than a classmate and future pro hero even though it was clear as day.
You were quite sure he hates your guts more than anyone in this school. Surprisingly, maybe even more than the sweet Midoriya. For some awful unknown reason, he just seemed to plant a deeper, special kind of hatred only for you. Death glares, aggressive cursing, and the unusual deep flush of red you thought justified his petty anger, yet still made you fall harder and harder for him as each day passed.
Bakugou Katsuki hated you.
You had enough evidence then.
You crossed off Bakugou on your list with a sigh.
Tumblr media
Bakugou trailed behind you alongside some of his friends, the chatters of your classmates barely reaching his ears as it instead chose to listen to the soft chuckle that left your plump lips as you joined in, with his gaze not seeing anything around him but the pretty smile that stuck like glue on your face which he thought only added charm in your personality.
From your annoying hysteric laughter whenever Kaminari tries to woo you with a lame joke, to the charming smile you shoot him whenever you enter the classroom, the stupid pouting of your lips and the scrunching of your brows when you fail to execute a new move and even to your annoying sound of your voice that does peculiar things to his heart, Bakugou absolutely despised just the thought of your stupid face.
But with a small hint of hesitance masked by a scowl and a push by Kirishima, he still accepted your invite to join you and your classmates on a small study group session in your room.
It seemed like those were all the more reasons for Bakugou to hate you.
You suddenly stopped in your tracks, with everyone following suit in front of your room door.Ā
The boy held his breath as he turned his head to the side, eyes darting everywhere when he saw how the growing smile on your lips reached up to your eyes as your cheeks suddenly kissed pink like the spring rose ā€” the same color as the flower sitting at your doorstep.
You bent down, gently grabbing the stem of the rose in your hands, quietly examining it with the soft smile still planted in your lips ā€” and Bakugou's eyes were fixated, yet again, to you.
"Aww! Your secret admirer is so sweet!" Uraraka gushed from behind you, peeking from your shoulders and her statement only making the redness on your cheeks brighter.
You bashfully tucked the stray strand of hair behind your ear, eyes setting down on the floor. "I love the flowers and this person too, to be honest."
"A mysterious romance is blooming in Class 1-A!"
Unbeknownst to any of you, Bakugou clutched his hands into fists, biting the insides of his cheeks as his face turned into an embarrassing reddish hue. He wouldn't know what to do if someone saw him in such a flustered state.
You only giggled quietly as you started to unlock your door. The moment it opened, the floral scent of your own personal flower garden welcomes your guests.
They slowly waltzed in, some jaws dropping in surprise as they examined the room heavily decorated with all different kinds of flowers. To the walls, tables, and bed; from lilacs, to carnations and roses, your room was practically transformed into a cute little flower shop.
At this point, Bakugou's heartbeat couldn't be felt anymore when he spotted the first ever flower your secret admirer had given you weeks ago, ā€” a red tulip, a symbol of declaration of one's love to another, still alive and flourishing in the prettiest vase you owned on your bedside table.
"Holy smokes!" Ashido exclaims in amazement, "You're like a-a... magical flower...fairy princess!"
You giggled, walking towards your table that had a minimal amount of flower decorations. Thankfully, you had one last vase left without its own flower complementing it standing lonesome on that table. "I'm flattered to become a magical flower fairy princess."
"Or maybe I'll be a florist instead of a hero in the future." you joked, causing soft chuckling to stir.
You placed the pink rose in the simple white vase, the soft colors of each item perfectly suiting each other. You opened the drawer on the table, a long enough pink ribbon just idly laying there along with different scrapbook materials. You daintily tied the ribbon on the stem of the flower to make it more pleasing to look at.Ā
For a finishing magic touch, just like what you do to each flower you were gifted, your lips touched the pink petal for a soft kiss.Ā
"Told you she's a flower fairy!"Ā
"Come on now, let us start studying." Iida stated, already starting to take out his textbooks from his backpack.
"That's boooring~"
With the image of a flower garden and its flower fairy tending to it with soft love as a gentle caress, Bakugou was finally aware of one thing.Ā
You unknowingly planted a seed in his heart, and just your smile could make flowers ā€” and even him grow.
Perhaps, Katsuki Bakugou liked you more than he planned.
Tumblr media
"Damn it, I forgot my book."
You sighed to yourself, reluctantly standing up. Present Mic would surely annoy the hell out of you for the whole English period, especially that you forgot your textbook in your dorm room. As to avoid anymore of your teacher's antics, you had no choice but to drag your lazy ass all the way to the dorms in less than five minutes just before homeroom starts.
The fact that your oh so lovely crush still hasn't made his presence known in some way dramatic only added to your already sour mood.Ā
With the little energy left on your body, you ran all the way back to the dorms, mumbling in annoyance to yourself every so often.
Hey, he is your motivation after all.
But when you finally approached your room, you quickly came to a halt. Your eyes shifting on a certain item and your jaw dropping in surprise.
That spiky ash blond hair that belongs to someone you were too familiar of.
There he was, Bakugou Katsuki, Class 1-A's infamous bad boy who seemed to hate you, standing at your doorstep with a gardenia, a flower that symbolizes secret love, held delicately in his hand.
Unfortunately for you (and him), before you even found the chance to hide, he had already felt your presence stood frozen behind him. He swiftly turned around, his eyebrows already scrunched in annoyance like an instinct.Ā
When his gaze caught yours, his eyes started to twitch. His teeth gritted against each other as veins started to visibly appear on his fists with the poor flower slowly getting crushed. You didn't miss the smoke coming out his clenched fists, and you swore you even saw some from his ears. The beetroot color of red painted his face, and you knew Bakugou wasn't angry, perhaps embarrassed. Or maybe he was angry because he was embarrassed? Which one was it, really?
But it surely did look like he was going to kill you, then himself.
"Bakugā€”"
And without even letting you finish whatever you had to say, the unusually blushing teen quickly fled the scene, not bothering to finish the business he was about to do.
"So.. he's the...secret....admirer...?"
You spent all night freaking out about your latest discovery that you barely slept a blink. You were too occupied screaming into your pillow and giggling alone in your room like the crazy high school girl absolutely head over heels over some cute boy.
And all was true in that.
Bakugou Katsuki standing at your doorstep with a flower surely wasn't a coincidence and your eyes weren't just making tricks, right?
My head hurts. You groaned quietly, fingers tiredly rubbing your temple.Ā
Today, there were still no signs of the hot headed teen and none of the pretty flowers that greeted you every morning. And that only added to your depressed mood; the literal opposite of what you were feeling just last night.
Just as you were about to continue sulking to yourself, the door slammed open, revealing Bakugou himself with the infamous ticked off expression of his you were all used to seeing which was a complete contrast to Kirishima who stood beside him, cheerfully greeting a good morning to your classmates.
With Bakugou's hands shoved in his pockets, back hunched, and the seemingly permanent scowl and glare etched on his face, he perfectly portrayed the bad boy title as he trudged over to your desk. Instead of a flower, he clutched a crumpled piece of paper in his hand.
He stopped in front of your chair, eyebrows furrowed and jaw clenching, tilting his head to the side to avoid your curious eyes. This time, you didn't miss the red painting his cheeks.Ā
Without uttering a word, he opened his fist, allowing the paper ball to land on your desk.
"Whaā€”"
"Shut up."
And with those two sharp words, you obeyed with your eyes quickly averting on the paper as he sat on his desk just behind yours, of course not forgetting to curse at Kirishima who only asked him what just happened.
With shaking hands, both in fear because who knows, he might want to kick your ass after class, and excitement because whatever was written here might prove he is your secret admirer, you slowly unfolded the paper to read Bakugou's scribbled handwriting.Ā
fuck youĀ
it isn't meĀ
you didn't catch me leaving you a flower yesterdayĀ
don't be delusional and think i'm your stupid ass admirer or some shit like that
dumbass
But when you came back to the dorms after class, a daisy which was widely used to predict whether one returns another's feelings, sitting at your doorstep and a certain figure hurriedly scurrying away from your room said otherwise.
You guessed that not only the flowers loved you, but it seemed like Bakugou Katsuki did as well.

Character Study
@faithchelā€‹Ā  and @scarlettkat86Ā  were kind enough to tag me waaaaay back for this one (thank you both! <3), and after nearly losing this twice to Tumblr eating the draft, I can finally post it. *phew*
Tagging: @sharky-broshaw @amistrio @foofygoldfish @shallow-gravy @ma-sulevin @teamhawkeye @guileandgall @painterofhorizons @fadedjacket @redroci @lxmbert @princess-underthemountainā€‹ @mackie-hattwie @words-and-seeds @geronimo-11 @stvnningstrike @raisinghellinotherworlds @shelliechen @hawkfurzeĀ  and anyone else thatā€™s interested! And if youā€™ve already completed this, donā€™t mind me at all, unless youā€™ve got another OC youā€™d love to share. :D
Deputy Hana Vao
Tumblr media
LAYER 01: THE OUTSIDE Ā
NAME: Hana Vao
EYE COLOUR: Dark brown, almost black.
HAIR STYLE / COLOUR: Auburn hair tied back in a low messy bun. She doesnā€™t have the patience to put in any bobby pins and try to smooth it out, especially when her hairā€™s wavy enough to try to escape on its own. So, itā€™s quick, it gets it out of the way, and itā€™s easy enough to fix if it ever falls out.
HEIGHT: 5ā€²6ā€³!
CLOTHING STYLE: Jeans, t-shirts, boots/sneakers, and her red motorcycle jacket are outfit staples. She likes to dress in a combo of comfortable and functional, but with a bit of the punk/rocker vibe going on. Also, at least one of the articles of clothingā€™ll have red, because she canā€™t go a day without having her favorite color on her or with her.
BEST PHYSICAL FEATURE: Sheā€™d guess her eyes (all while batting her lashes exaggeratedly), but others would say her smile. Itā€™s something that sheā€™ll do easily without thinking or holding it back, and itā€™s hard to find her without one. Over time they start to become a little more infrequent, but if anyoneā€™s able to get a smile out of her, itā€™s never a small thing. Itā€™ll be bright and paired with a laugh, as she lights up completely.
LAYER 02: THE INSIDE
FEAR:Ā  That sheā€™s the one to break and ruin things by getting involved. That people are worse off for knowing her.
GUILTY PLEASURE: Period dramas/romance flicks. Theyā€™ll have her on the edge of her seat, and if she reaches for your hand during a critical moment, sheā€™ll have a death-grip on it too. Itā€™s all in the high drama, man. It gets her, bad.
BIGGEST PET PEEVE: Anyone talking over her or down to her, and ignoring her input. Being told she doesnā€™t care.
AMBITIONS FOR THE FUTURE: Finding stability. Finding home, and a place she wouldnā€™t mind waking up in every day. Knowing she has a job where sheā€™s able to be useful, and knowing that she has people she can depend on for help if needed, and that she trusts enough to want to reach out to.
In the short term? To not royally fuck up any of this any further. To get to tomorrow, and have it be a safer, happier one.
LAYER 03: THOUGHTS
FIRST THOUGHTS WAKING UP: *slaps at the alarm clock* Oh Jesus, no. Just five more minutes...
WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT MOST: Where to head to next, whatā€™s the news looking like up north, east, west? More than a few of her ridiculous movies to help illustrate the plans sheā€™d like to pull off next. How ridiculous Sharky is, and how much she loves him for it. How much of an asshole John is and how she needs to start charging him rent if heā€™s going to stick around in her thoughts like this
WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT BEFORE BED: What to do tomorrow. How she really hopes a spider wonā€™t crawl into her bag. How Graceā€™s is doing, if sheā€™s resting enough. *once in bed* How Sharkyā€™s able to snore so damn loud, and put off so much heat. Just a rambling stream of things that tend to cover all bases, as her brain slowly shuts itself off.
WHAT THEY THINK THEIR BEST QUALITY IS: Being able to put a smile on someoneā€™s face. To take their mind off of whatā€™s concerning them even for a little while, and sheā€™ll make an absolute fool of herself if she has to. And if they donā€™t feel like sharing or saying anything at all? Sheā€™ll be there to offer a shoulder if they need it.
LAYER 04: EITHER OR
SINGLE OR GROUP DATES: Both sheā€™s great with, but one-on-one movie dates sheā€™s the most fond of. She has to be able to watch at least one bad movie with them, and itā€™s the only way to be sure. Ā
TO BE LOVED OR RESPECTED: She wants both, but if sheā€™s not respected, there isnā€™t enough love in the world to substitute for it.Ā
BEAUTY OR BRAINS:Ā  Sheā€™s got a weakness for a pretty face, but intelligence can be equally hot to her too. Just as long as the person in question doesnā€™t use it as an excuse to be an insufferable dick.
DOGS OR CATS: Dogs are adorable to her, but sheā€™s weak for cats. Thereā€™s a good chance that if you have a cat, sheā€™ll at one point be on the floor, reaching out them cautiously, hoping theyā€™ll approach her only to have someone walk in on her.
LAYER 05: DO THEY
LIE: Yes, and when she does itā€™s mostly lying by omission.
BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES: Sheā€™s working on it. Her friends and family believe in her, though, and thatā€™ll have to do for now.
BELIEVE IN LOVE: Yes. Sheā€™ll crack jokes and downplay her feelings, but sheā€™s a romantic at heart, and believes in it enough to give her heart a proper beating in the process.
WANT SOMEONE: Yes. Much as it hurts for a while going in either direction, and much as she didnā€™t plan on any of it, period.Ā
LAYER 06: HAVE THEY
BEEN ON STAGE: Oh yeah, and if itā€™s a karaoke stage, itā€™s not a question of if, itā€™s a question of when.
DONE DRUGS: Only a handful. She sticks to cigarettes and alcohol as her main vices.
CHANGED WHO THEY WERE TO FIT IN: When Hana was younger, sheā€™d often try new things in the hopes of catching the eye of anyone she admired, but never was able to change the core of what she was like or about. That led to more rejections than she wouldā€™ve liked, and in some cases, taking more risks in the hopes of impressing them.
LAYER 07: WHATā€™S THEIR
FAVORITE COLOR: Red. Whenever she wears it she feels like she can take on the world.
FAVORITE ANIMAL: She loves cats, and red animals in general ā€“ cardinals and foxes, plus goldfish and koi, because orange is cool too, darn it.
FAVORITE BOOK: If pressed (and a little inebriated) sheā€™ll admit itā€™s Pride and Prejudice, though sheā€™s only seen adaptations of it. She always meant to start it someday, but doesnā€™t get a chance to until years down the line.
(John somehow unearths a copy in the bunker and gives it to her. Which she starts, but then persuades him to switch off on chapters as he reads to her, and itā€™s a hell of a lot easier to get him to do it than she anticipates)
FAVORITE GAME: To limit it to a few: Truth or Dare, a million card games (including Strip Poker), Pictionary, and Charades.
LAYER 08: AGE
DAY THEIR NEXT BIRTHDAY WILL BE: Oct 6th.
HOW OLD THEY WILL BE: (at the start of FC5) 32!
LAYER 09: Iā€¦
I LOVE: ā€œCheesy 80ā€²s flicks, a night in with some pizza and friends or a date, riding on my bike, just...ā€ *sighs happily* ā€œAll of the above.ā€
I FEEL: ā€œTired. So damn tired. ...But thatā€™s the lack of coffee talking, so if you could point me towards the nearest source Iā€™d really appreciate it.ā€
I HIDE: *someone points out a huge mottled bruise poking up past the collar of her shirt and Hana tugs at her shirt to cover more*
ā€œHmm? Oh, that? Itā€™s nothing. Yeah, I know it looks bad, but you should see the other guy.ā€
I MISS: ā€œā€¦My mom. I donā€™t think thatā€™ll ever change.ā€
I WISH: ā€œI hadnā€™t been such a stupid kid at times. I wasnā€™t thinking, just...ā€ *she pauses, and chews on her lip as she stares at the ground* ā€œI donā€™t know. I shouldā€™ve been better. Done more. Been more.ā€

You just met Sam after three weeks, time in which he had been away in Europe, for touring. Now the two of you were in your car and the music faintly playing in the background. Outside was cold like hell to be honest, even though there was a shitload of snow covering the streets and peopleā€™s yards.
As you stepped behind the steering wheel, you took of your warm hat and threw it on the backseat and did the same thing to your gloves. You knew that poor Sammy mustā€™ve been exhausted from the travelling and playing and he was most likely jet-lagged, even though he wouldnā€™t admit it for nothing in the world.
ā€œCome on, babe,ā€ he pleaded, looking at you with puppy eyes.
Damn you Samuel Kiszka and your cute face, you thought as you looked over to him. He knew you couldnā€™t resist when he pulled off that face. ā€œFine. But when you feel the slightest bit of tiredness, you tell me and we stop,ā€ you tell him and point your finger at him and boop his nose earning a laugh from the boy wrapped in a knitted Christmas sweater made by your mom.
ā€œI wonā€™t be tired. I am not tired, Iā€™m telling you! I am totally capable of bringing a couple of boxes from the garage and helping you with the Christmas tree,ā€ he flashed you a smile as you put in the key and started the engine of your car.
The music was still playing softly in the background. Maybe it was a little too soft, because while you were focusing on the frozen (and dangerous) road ahead and keeping conversation to a minimum, Sammy was resting his head on the window and eventually fell asleep.
It wasnā€™t that much of a drive back home. Once you pulled in the driveway of the house you shared with Sam, you noticed him peacefully sleeping and smiled to yourself.
You didnā€™t want to wake him up, considering he was tired as hell, but you also knew that now, once you turned off the car engine, the car was going to cool down and sleepy Sammy was going to catch a cold, so you decided to turn the volume all the way up. All you had to do was sit back and observe with a smile in which was hidden childish mischief how Sam slightly jumped at the increasing volume.
ā€œYou know, you couldā€™ve just called me, I wasnā€™t sleeping. I was justā€¦ resting my eyes for a little bit.ā€
ā€œAs you say, babe,ā€ you answer him with an innocent look on your face as you reach over and peck his lips.
After Samā€™s stuff was all inside and both you and him changed into way more comfortable clothes, Sam went outside, to the garage, as he promised, to bring inside a couple of boxes filled with Christmas decorations.
You watched him from the window in your living room. Snow was falling heavily, but it all seemed so peaceful. So quiet. You actually enjoyed when it snowed, you just didnā€™t like the aftermath of it ā€“ the frozen roads, the fallings on the sidewalk, those kind of things.
ā€œHey bud,ā€ you heard Samā€™s cheerful voice as you walked out the door, wrapped in a warm winter jacket and the same hat that youā€™ve thrown earlier on the backseat.
ā€œHiya Sammy,ā€ you heard the voice of the little boy living next door. ā€œYou are back.ā€
ā€œYes, Iā€™m back buddy, and I am going to be here for a while,ā€ Sam smiled at him. Tod was the boyā€™s name. Todā€™s ocean blue eyes brightened up as he heard Samā€™s words. The two of them were like besties. On some summer days, theyā€™d play football all evening and Sam would bring him to your home and show him some records or a certain tune and he tried to teach young Tod how to play the clavinet.
You were just resting against the door frame now, looking in awe at your boyfriend. You were head over heels in love with him and he never ceased to amaze you and warm your heart with his kindness, love and generosity. You were so damn lucky.
ā€œLook Sammy, itā€™s Y/N!ā€ Tod laughed loudly and pointed at you.
ā€œHiya Tod,ā€ you speak to him as you move from the door frame, closer to Sam, right in front of the fence that separated you and the little boy.
ā€œTod, here you were,ā€ you heard his momā€™s voice, followed by a relieved sigh. ā€œIā€™ve been searching for the little one over here for the past five minutes. Come on, we need to get to the doctor,ā€ she spoke to you then to her son.
As they both waved you goodbye, you turned to Sam, whose face was half buried underneath a scarf.
ā€œGod, I love you so much, Sammy,ā€ you speak up with a smile on your lips.
ā€œTurns out that speaking to kids is such a turn-on, am I right?ā€ he smirked and grabbed hold of your waist and pulled you closer to him.
ā€œI guess it is,ā€ you shrug and peck his lips.
ā€œThatā€™s all I get for being able to talk to kids?ā€ Sammy pouts as he lets go of you and kneels, grabbing a fist of snow.
ā€œNo. Donā€™t you dare,ā€ you whisper and you see the words leaving your mouth and raising up into the cold air.
ā€œOh yeah, I do dare baby,ā€ Sam laughs loudly as he models the snow into a small ball and throws it at you. It hits you in the shoulder.
ā€œThis is war,ā€ you laugh as you crouch and make a couple of snowballs and wait for the ideal moment to throw them at Sammy.
You had this snow fight for about half an hour. Both Sammyā€™s and your cheeks were red from all the running around and especially from the cold around you, stinging at any uncovered piece of skin. You were breathing heavily as you let yourself fall into the cold, yet fluffy snow.
Once the initial shock of the cold wears out, snow turns out to be kind of warm. Like a blanket. Sam falls next to you as well and you both start laughing as loud as your lungs allowed you. You didnā€™t get the chance to simply fool around and forget all about your duties for a long time now and this felt so damn good. Laughing, running, playing.
You turned your head and you looked at Sammy, who did the same thing.
ā€œI love you, Y/N,ā€ he spoke softly and you rolled in the snow over to him, in his arms. If the snow was so cozy, now you were even cozier, in Samā€™s arms.
You spent a few more minutes like that, in complete silence, and afterwards you went inside and briefly washed your hair and dried it and Sam did the same thing.
ā€œGod, I am so tired,ā€ Sam finally admitted as you walked out of the bathroom dressed in your Christmas pajamas and red socks with reindeers on them.
You smirked a little, knowing that you were right all along, but kept it to yourself though and decided to put on display a pout. ā€œAnd I wanted to make hot chocolate and watch some Netflix.ā€
ā€œNever too tired to that,ā€ Sammy objected and pulled you in for a kiss.
ā€œGreat, you can start searching for the movie, I am going to make the hot chocolate. Want any gingerbread?ā€ you ask as you rest your forehead against his.
Sammy hummed against your lips and once he pulled away, he jumped on the couch, underneath a tiny blanket. ā€œIā€™m already on it, babe.ā€
