darry sayin they aren't gonna fight in the rumble n tim saying dallas said they were tuff. OUGH. 'yeah well look where that got dallas' AUGH. ouch. Jesus christ.
love Steve in this version. that's my guy. I dunno what's up with him but I love him.
this scene is pitch black. I can't see SHIT.
who the hell is this child. she's trauma dumpin n ponys like. u like to kill a mockingbird. OH. this is scout. ok thats where scout comes from. wait are they settin scout up to be like? Johnny? also btw STILL no mention of that guy.
oh my god. this white girl just wrote slave fanfiction. what the fuck.
ponyboys writin actually. aough. I will say there's a lot of flaws with the show but I like gettin the chance to see pony in school.
shows givin us dyslexic pony. aough. they gettin the whole FAMILY.
I'm sorry are they tryin to imply pony n cherry are just meetin? isn't this supposed to take place AFTER the book?
feel like the two bit castin was really well done.
ponyboy is so whiny n pouty in this version. actually. hell yeah. I stand for whiny ponyboy supremacy. let that kid be a brat every now n then.
DOG. he just had the whole oh we used to be fine before mom n dad died. DID THE BOOK HAPPEN OR NO?
ohhh I am actually sick to my stomach. 'when Darry gets scared it comes out angry. or when two gets scared it comes out funny. or when you get scared you smoke too much'. soda in every universe they could never make me hate u ily.
when Soda hugs its always so desperate. like he's just tryin to hold on to his brothers with everything he has. AOUGH.
two n pony duo actually so important to me. we don't see them much in the book or movie but I'm lovin this duo so much.
SODAS LIL FRILLY APRON WHILE HES COOKIN AWWW
'we take turns doin dinner' 'no we don't. pony starts dinner n then he wanders off n it burns to a crisp. we take turns doin the dishes' AOUGGAHGHH BROTHERS EVER I LOVE THEM
SODAS BLUE MASHED POTATOES AWAUGG
darry roofin content n pony school content the show is FEEDIN us
tim followin darry around?? 'we need you. I need you.' HELLO???
'you ain't nothin but a Northside greaser like the rest of us. n if we don't stick together we're nothin' FROM TIM TO DARRY??? what the HELL is the nature of their relationship. I'm obsessed with them.
tim opens his fridge. takes a beer. takes somethin else (?) off the table. turns around n says 'those Socs will let you build their roof darry. but they ain't ever gonna let you under one.' n then fucks off. insane. no notes.
JOHNNY MENTION!!!! JOHNNY MY BABY!!! he is trash talkin the SHIT outta him. however. wait. ok. so. the events of the book did happen. STAY GOLD MENTION. oh. so we are swappin in scout for Johnny. hm. I don't know how to feel about that.
the way darry says 'you got me little brothers?' aough. I'm sick to my stomach.
darrys gettin fired? n he says he needs this job. but didn't he? get hired at a country club? this show cannot keep up with its own lore.
steves sittin? IN the sink?
AOUGH THEM ALL PILIN IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK OUGH MY KIDS
why are scout n pony just. watchin 2 teenagers make out. freaks.
PAUL N DARRY MENTION. WOAH.
pony is so cute in the show actually. that's my son.
why are they at a dance. what is HAPPENIN. why is pony just sittin there poutin.
I know they probably didn't mean it this way. but settin up that scout is exactly like Johnny. n then lettin her. be ponys romantic interest. do we see. what you are implyin. here.
AW he's so awkward. apugh. my baby.
STEVE TALKED SODA INTO GOIN TO THE RUMBLE. AOUGH. guys. I can't explain how important it is to me that every so often STEVE is the one convincin SODA. AOUGH
very cool. another pitch black scene. all I can see it like. vague car shapes.
pony runnin into the fight late VERY reminiscent of Dallas in the book huh.
goddamn darry is MEAN in the show. like. oddly so. he's soft at times but I feel like. hmm. I dunno. they just can't pick a lane with his characterization.
IS THAT SODA? DID THEY STOMP THE HELL OUTTA SODA? man I sure wish the show was more then three pixels.
WHAT THE FUCKIN HELL. 'DONT GIVE ME ANY TROUBLE SHEPARD. I PUT DOWN YOUR BUDDY DALLAS. N ILL PUT YOU DOWN TOO' WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE HELL. oh I hope Tim kills that guy. fuck that cop.
the way. Tim talks about Dallas. oh. dear God. like. I can't even sum it up here. the cop sayin no one gave a damn about Dallas. n tim sayin someone did. Tally shippers we are WINNIN tonight. how we FEELIN
AND tarry shippers actually. darry sayin he only went to the rumble for tim🤨 hmm
wait. does sandy still happen? in the show? is that a plot line?
there is a train whistle or a dog barkin every ten seconds.
'u know. we never think about darry havin any problems. he's always superman to us. let's go get him.' SODA THE BROTHER THAT YOU AREEEE
GODDAMN SODA CLEARED THAT FENCE IN ONE LEAP
guys. the brothers ever. like. let them be brothers. please. 'so you screwed up. seems anyone can screw up once darry. even you' 'yeah I might even someday!' AOUGHGGGG BROTHERS EVER ACTUALLY
ok. pilot done. final thoughts? I liked it. I think the shows only problem is it doesn't know what story it wants to tell. whether it wants to be the story of the outsiders or POST the outsiders. n the second they figure that out. well. honestly? I'm here for it

Just woke up from the most interesting dream that I think could make a great modern AU and I might write it.
There was this art club in my town that me and the RttE gang attended. One day my mum was driving me and my best friend Rue and her little sister home from the art club and Astrid was also in the car with us except Rue and Astrid kept fusing into one person so make of that what you will.
Anyway I was trying to organise a bunch of old bottles and stationary that was on the floor of the car because me and Rue were about to go on a road trip into the mountains and the car was a mess. I found this letter and opened it up and there was some police document in it. Astrid started explaining that Ruff and Tuff were in trouble with the law after this one old evil boomer photographer guy saw how good this girl from our art club was at taking photos. The boomer had tried to get our art club shut down by exposing every member, one at a time, for supposedly doing illegal things we'd never done, until either nobody was left or our art club was labelled a threat to the public and shut down because of how many "criminals" were involved in it.
Inside the letter were literal urine and blood samples from Ruff and Tuff that Astrid and her lawyer were going to use to clear the twins' names. If the plan didn't work and they were framed then the twins were going to fake their deaths to avoid punishment and use that newfound freedom to spy on the boomer and expose him.
Other things happened in this dream, such as mum almost hitting a dog that ran in front of the car. We also stopped at a Caltex and I went inside to buy a bag of chips and a drink and when I went out of the store this truck with a massive trailer drove past carrying five giant Peepy and Oui-Oui plushies, each as big as like. The standard bouncy-castle.

Chapter 13: Get Along
Chapter Log!
Michelle had shown up at house unexpected, and uninvited later on that same Friday. And somehow, someway convinced me that going to the gathering would be a good thing. Sitting in the passenger seat of her 8-year old Camry. I was still trying to decide if she'd been right or not. KISS 95.9 was currently playing on the radio. Love in This Club by Usher blasting through the speakers. And at just number eight on their top-forty countdown, it had me counting the mile markers on I-83. Just praying each one would be the last we'd pass.
I'd asked Michelle just about a hundred and seven times since she'd shown up at my door where we were going. And each and every time I did, she gave me the same cookie cutter response. Just a small smirk, and a "you'll see" that had my eyes rolling and my brain contemplating just ending it all. But in Heinz sight, if shitty radio play and a sketchy best-friend were the worst things I had going on in my day, I guess I was doing okay. Still, I impatiently tapped my fingers on my tanned knees the entire remainder of the drive. Only stopping when she suddenly slowed down and pulled off the main road and onto an uneven dirt path. One that certainly didn't look like it was meant for any form of recreational use in the past generation or so. "Okay, where on Earth are we actually going?" I asked at the sight of it. Our small bodies bouncing and swinging around in the cab of her car as it jumped and jostled. Thanking God for the second time in my life for inventing the seatbelt. "Lord, is your patients as thin you are!" She joked, rolling her eyes. And I couldn’t help but start to mutter under my breath for a greater power above to give me some patience. Because if I was handed strength in that moment I probably would have just up and punched her. She was the one that dragged me out to the middle of nowhere and wouldn’t tell me where she taking me to probably get wacked and left for dead. But thankfully for both me, and Michelle's arm a second later she somehow managed to round a brushed corner without bottoming out her little gold car. Pulling into a large open field. We rode down the grass and destroyed patches of road, kept in a straight line by sporadic metal posts till we passed a small white structure caving in on itself. Other cars soon came into view. An array of varying vehicles from little ones like Michelle's to large pickups were parked in a semi-circle, people gathered in the middle. And soon I spotted the most bizarre thing just beyond the group. A towering fifty-foot-tall screen stood sky high. Small white panels pealing at places and completely missing in others leaving nothing but holes or exposed plywood. We were at an old drive-in movie theater. My eyes were probably the size of bowling balls by the time she'd parked her car and turned to me, calling my attention back to her. "You good?" She asked simply. And I looked out through her windshield at the group of people wandering around. Unable to make out exact faces. "I'll be right beside you the whole time if you get overwhelmed." I nodded thoughtfully and chewed on my lip. Not daring to make moves to unbuckle myself, even when Michelle did. There were about twelve or so people in the group if my math was correct. And all things considered, there was probably one person I knew for certain, and only two to three others whom I'd just recognize. "Tweedle Dee?" She called again, probably noticing my internal debate. I looked over to see her now up and out of her car, standing in its open door. "Just remember, all these people are your friends, whether you remember them or not." I nodded my head and forced my hands to move. "You're right" I muttered, crawling out of the car. I tried to repeat Dr. Walker's words in my head, telling myself how this would help me remember. But it was kind of hard to once Michelle ran around to me. She hooked her arm in mine and lead us off towards the crowd, rambling the entire time about how excited everyone would be to see me. But I didn’t need her assuring words for long. Because the second we drew close enough to identify, a long-legged, skunk haired kid was running right at us. "KENNERS!" He screeched, straggly arms waving through the air. A trail of dust being kicked up behind his brightly colored Nikes as he stormed towards us, throwing himself at me the second he could. His sternum crashed into my cheek with full force, knocking me back a few steps and clean into a memory. "Allright, everyone! Listen up!" Jack shouted, from behind me. Causing everyone in our small huddle to turn around and see the raven-haired boy by Alex's truck. His long limbs contorted in strange and certainly uncomfortable ways as he swung himself up onto the dropped tailgate and rose to his feet. Bible in his left hand he'd swiped from the glove box, was then used to tap the beer bottle clutched in the other. Once a gift from Alex's grandmother after his confirmation was now just a prop. His feeble attempts to make any sound fell short. But still, everyone around who hadn't already been watching on turned to see what the commotion was. The air was warm as it swirled around us, ice cold Coronas and Busch Light cans were in everyone's hands as we gathered in the center of our favorite spot in town. The old abandoned Timonium Drive In. It was the core of the summer, and the usually scorching sun just begun to set, dipping slightly behind the large screen which somehow still stood. But Alex's skin was still speckled with sweat as he threw a bare arm around my shoulders. Warm sun-tanned skin sticking to my own. I knew just as well as the boy beside me that the fleeting light wouldn’t stop that twenty-person party from raging on into the night. And as the golden hour shined down on Jack where he towered above us, it was as good of an assumption as any. "Tuesday, July 15th 2005 will be a day for us all to remember!" He shouted, beginning to walk back and forth across the rusted bed. "A day greatness was released from the womb of the greatest band to ever come from the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland and out into the world!" "Pretty sure were the only ones in the area!" Rian hollered from behind. His arm slung causally around Kara's waist. "Shut up, I'm giving a speech you, turd licker!" Jack laughed, "Today, we as a band, released our first ever full-length album, The Party Scene!" And on that note, everyone started to cheer. Hoots were hollered and beers were sipped but Jack wasn’t quite done there. He kept on talking, pacing and swinging his drink as though he here Charlie Champlin. And our small group of friends were watching his movie. "You don't get much for certain in this life, and we sure as Hell didn't think this little garage band would make it this far, that’s for damn sure!" He drunkenly rambled. "But as I stand here, managing to convince you all somehow that what I'm about to say may have some hidden wisdom or be sweet and meaningful to hold onto and laugh about in years to come. I'll tell you right now, you're dead-fucking-wrong." "Oh, then just get on with it!" Another friend yelled. "Well," Jack popped, coming to a stop and turning to face us all. "I would, but to be honest I forgot what I had to say the second, I climbed up onto this truck. So, I'll just say what mamma Merrick always has. All you're really given is the sunshine and your name!" "My mom doesn’t say that?" Zack chimed in, and not a second later the most miraculous thing I'd ever seen started to happened. As though mother nature was toying with Jack's mention of the sunshine pouring over us all. Not a second more passed before small drops of water began to fall from the sky. And I couldn't even begin to describe just how magical the chorus of our laughter sounded in that moment of time. "Look what you've done now, you fuck!" Rico manically yelled as one drop became two, and then three. And before we knew it large rain drops began to fall all around us from the still sunlit sky. In a matter of seconds, the mere drizzle was a full-blown downpour and people began to scatter. I was ripped from the memory almost as quickly as I'd been knocked into it. Looking up once I could to see Alex holding Jack by the shoulder and rolling his eyes. "You're going to crush her to death if you squeeze her like that!" "Well, I'm not going to apologize for it!" He laughed, turning to me and letting his black and bleached hair fall into his eyes. "I've missed you Kenn, like the dessert misses the rain!" His small, clueless remark made me laugh a little too hard at its relation to my memory. But still, my shoulders instantly rolled back. Now free from his death-like grip and much more relaxed than they'd been just moments before in the car. "I've missed you too, you crazy." I smiled. Not knowing exactly what I'd been missing, but the words felt right as they rolled off my tongue. He smiled at me, big brown eyes glistening in the fading sunlight. I could practically see the sporadic thoughts bouncing through his skull as he tossed an arm around my shoulder and started to walk. "Well how 'bout we say hi to everyone else who's been missing you almost as much as I have." I could hear Alex and Michelle's steps as they followed close behind. Talking softly to one another as Jack lead me by my neck towards the crowd. A few slowly turned around one by one to our direction. But not everyone had seemed to notice us approach, most just carried on with their loud conversations over the even louder music flowing from a Jeep. But one boy seemed to pick up on my presence instantly, a smile spreading across his face I could see clearly from even a foot away how bright and perfect his teeth were. He was a broader man, his head was buzzed, and subtle tuffs of scruff lined his jaw. He didn't look like anyone I'd pictured before, but for some reason my brain drew a connection I didn't even know was there upon seeing that smile of his. "Hey Rian," I waved. His already large smile growing even bigger as he managed to pull me out from under Jacks arm. Tugging me instantly into a brief, firm hug. "How are you?" "I'm good!" He nodded and let go. His smile still so wide I was beginning to think he would start to catch flies soon enough. "How are you, how have you been doing?" "I mean, I've certainly been better." I shrugged, trying to laugh it off like I'd been getting in the habit of doing. He just gave me a knowing nod. "I'm sure, but hey, Alex has been telling us you've been coming along pretty good!" He said motioning to the singer who'd stepped up beside Jack. Already blushing profusely by the time I'd looked over. "Is that true?" "It is..." I dragged. Watching for a second with a smile as Alex kept his hidden before I looked to my other side at Michelle. The shorter brunette shooting me a grin. "I didn't know Alex talked about me so much." "No more than he used to!" Rian laughed, receiving a swift smack to the arm by his shaggy-headed friend. "Alright, well that's enough of a re-introduction to Rian, I think!" Alex cut in right after, deciding that conversation was dead and buried. Being quick to replace Jack's place at my side as he grabbed my hand and hauled me off to the others. Being dragged around that makeshift party and being re-introduced to person after person in my life was a lot of things. For starters, it was outright just a lot. A lot to take in, a lot to digest, a lot of fresh names in the bank, a lot of faces I just straight up didn’t recognize, and a lot that I vaguely did but had no idea of why. It was confusing at times, but fun at others. For instance, when I was put in front of a boy with a rather interesting last name, I remembered him. Not much, but now at least I know Alex Grieco. And that I was assigned to be his guide when he came into Dulaney High just one year after the rest of us. And how we'd laughed the entire time at the fact that even I still didn't know how to get around that damned high school. And the entire time I had someone with me by my side walking me through it all. Either Alex, sipping a beer and sharing a story of something ridiculous and borderline unbelievable I’d done with someone. Or with Michelle, which I almost preferred, not that Alex wasn’t helpful. But purely because anytime someone that didn’t even begin to ring a bell would walk away, she'd turn to me and whisper a juicy bit of gossip on how I'd felt about them back in high school. All of which had the two of us laughing and snickering like immature school girls again. Eventually we'd all found ourselves gathered around Alex's truck. Zack was sat on top the truck's cab. Someone who I'd recognized almost instantly despite his drastic change in appearance from the dark and stormy kid I’d envisioned. I was perched on the tailgate, legs swinging over the edge. Wedged between Michelle and Alex while all the others wereeither sat in collapsible chairs or standing around. Each and every one having a story to share of a time they'd spent with me they just couldn't wait to get out. "And I just stood there, completely shocked," One kid Timmy, a rather robust individual told. "You just slapped the dude clean across the face, no warning or nothing!" "There is absolutely no way I did that!" I laughed along with everyone else. Leaning over and hiding my head in Michelle's long hair once Timmy was done telling his story of me. Large hands up in the air the entire time he explained it. "Oh, but you did, my little fire-cracker!" He pointed at me, exposing my bright red face to the whole group in the process. "Yeah that's a good one," Zack laughed from behind me, hopping down and making the truck jolt just a bit. "But not quite as good as the time we went to Dick's Last Resort!" "Oh, my gosh I almost forgot about that!" Michelle laughed, turning around to look up at Zack as he placed a hand on my totally confused shoulder. Everyone around me beginning to chuckle and nod. Each and every one seeming to recall the moment with ease. I on the other hand was having a much more difficult time. "Why, what happened at Dick's Last Resort?" "Well you know how the whole point of Dick's is that you go, and get those funny paper hats and the waiters basically just pick fun at and mock you the entire time?" Michelle excitedly asked, staring cheerily into my lost eyes. "I mean, kind of, I guess." I shrugged, trying to recall. Still not really seeing how this could lead to a memorable story. Unless my friends really thought a waiter laughing at me was just that hysterical. Which they just might of, honestly. "Well we all went there to celebrate something-" "My birthday!" "Yes," Zack sighed at Michelle's interruption. "And were just downright miserable the whole time! Our waiter was basically bullying you the entire meal. Calling you Scrooge, saying you could drive a preacher to drink with an attitude like yours all this crazy shit!" "Eventually you basically snapped!" Jack chimed in with a chortle. "What did I do?" I asked, genuinely a little worried to hear their responses. But I of course was only immediately answered with a wide variation of laugher. "You made some absurd remark about being able to charm the dew off a honeysuckle or something bizarre like that and went on this hilarious little rant about how cheery of a person you were!" Zack started again, "But then you made the big ole mistake of spewing out that you used to be a cheerleader!" "I was a cheerleader?" I asked, not believing it for a second as I turned to the grinning boy. Scrunching my nose up at his smile. "Not that we knew of!" He chuckled, shrugging a bit. "You cheered for a little later on in high school and hated it they were so bad, but I guess in Boston you were really good at it." "Yeah, you were smoking at the ears practically when our waiter only started to pick on you more, saying that you probably couldn’t get your scrawny legs of the ground!" Michelle laughed, borderline crying she was giggling so hard. "Hey, this is my story for Kenn!" Zack snipped, smacking her lightly on the top of her head. "But yeah, like she said, you were pissed as all Hell, and you made a bet with the guy that if you got up on their stage right then and there and did a back flip that he couldn't say one more word to you the rest of the night!" "I didn’t know I could do a back flip!" I chocked, looking wide-eyed at my boney knees swinging over the tailgate's edge. "Yeah, neither did we!" The boy continued to laugh. "We all thought for sure you were about to eat hardwood when you got up on the platform, but crazily enough you landed it! Still probably the coolest thing I've seen you do." "We did get banned for a year though because of it..." Rian muttered. And everyone started to laugh again. Including me this time. "I don't know, Zack..." Jack sang, taking his turn as he sloshed his beer around in its can. "I think the concerning number of drunk backflips she's done in Gaskarth's back yard would have that story beat!" "I did not do back flips drunk!" I laughed, shaking my head in utter disbelief. "Oh, sweet pea," Michelle sighed, "You've done so many, so far from sober we lost count after fifteen or so." An eruption of laughter exploded through the friend group after that. And I laughed along ever so slightly and I fell, red-faced into Alex's side. "I didn't realize how crazy I was growing up..." I chuckled. So soft probably only the singer had heard. He just sighed and wrapped his arm around my back. Pulling my blushing form closer into him. "It's one of the many, many things we all love about you. Kennedy Paige."

There is very little info out there about this band, so I thought I’d collect it and post it all right here in a coherent timeline.  Enjoy!
This band history has been pieced together with fragments of band member comments found on the Interwebs.  My primary source was the fantastic writeup on the now-defunct Dirty Sheets Zine, along with various thread comments from band members Martin John Butler and Bob Jones.
The Demons were spawned around 1974 by 19-year old guitarist Martin John Butler, who had been part of the New York City Rock scene since he was 15, and drug dealer/aspiring singer Eliott Kidd (nĂŠe Cohen).  Looking for a second guitarist, Butler brought in his former bandmate Walter Lure, who he played with in The Stray Cats (no, not those Stray Cats).  Robbie Twyford (bass), Bob Jones (guitar), and Billy O’Conner (drums) rounded out the quintet.  Billy would leave to join Blondie, so Mike Rappaport was drafted to fill the drummer slot.
The band was close to other lesser and better known groups on the scene, including Elda Stilletto, Snooky and Tish and Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, the Ramones, Television, Tuff Darts, and the New York Dolls, who The Demons shared a loft with on 23rd St., next to the Chelsea Hotel.  Actually, the Demons-Dolls bond went further than cohabitation; as Lure recollected, “[Eliot Kidd] was a drug dealer who sold drugs to the Dolls....[The Demons] started playing original stuff, and it was decent. Plus we were using the Dolls’ rehearsal loft, because he’d been selling drugs to them for years. That’s where I got to meet Johnny and Jerry [Nolan] for the first time.”
Not to get sidetracked, but let’s pull the string on Waldo’s tenure with The Demons, as he split not long after the band played their first gig.   It was at that Spring ’75 gig at legendary cabaret 82 Club (aka Club 82, at 82 East 4th St.) that word of the Dolls’ demise began to circulate amongst the cognoscenti.  â€œWe heard that The Dolls had broken up down in Florida and Jerry and Johnny were coming to New York and joining Richard Hell to start a band. They already had a name, The Heartbreakers, and there was word out that they wanted another guitar player,” he said.
JT and Jerry attended that first Demons show, probably to buy coke from Eliot, as Waldo tells it, and invited Lure to try out for the ‘Breakers later that night.  A week later he had a try-out, didn’t hear anything for about a month, and when The Demons were booked to open for a Hell-less Heartbreakers at CBGB’s for a July 4th festival at CB’s, Jerry approached Waldo with an invite.  Lure’s final performance as a Demon turned out to be a miserable one, with a rainstorm preventing much a crowd from attending.  Looking back, Lure said that “with about 20 people in the audience, it was depressing.” The following day, he joined forces with JT, Jerry, and Billy Rath.
So, looping back to The Demons, they had made recordings that were slated to be on a second installment of the Live At CBGB’s album, but with other bands on bill, like Blondie and Mink Deville, signing with major labels, the release was frozen.  Craig Leon, an assistant to Richard Gottehrer, who had worked with the Ramones, Blondie, Suicide, and Richard Hell, had produced the CBGB’s recordings, and subsequently introduced the band to Mercury Records. The Mercury contract was for $1.7 million in 2019 dollars and five albums.
Live, The Demons played a brand of hard-edged Rock ’N Roll.  Mercury, though, had different ideas, and following that familiar tale of “Record Company Knows Best,” Leon colluded with Eliot to file the Demons’ edge down to something more akin to Power Pop.  Butler fought the change in sound.  â€œHad they listened to me, we would have been a fair amount harder on the record. I always felt we were more like a Punk version of the Animals, than the Punk/Pop bands like the Knack and the Romantics later copied.”
Listening to the album in 2019—on vinyl, as it’s never been reissued on CD—it doesn’t have the punch you’d expect from the guy who’s listed as the producer for the Ramones first album.  That said, the album sold around 250,000 copies and reached #1 in 11 states.  The only problem was that tragedy and bad karma were about to rear their heads.
In the wee hours of December 31, 1977, Rappoprt had pulled over to the side of the Gowanus Parkway in Brooklyn, only to have a truck slam into the back of his car, killing him almost instantly.  â€œHe'd been living a wild life then, and we expected something like this to happen at any time. He'd grown as a person,” Butler recalled.  â€œMichael was getting getting high, starting fights with Hell's Angels, and causing all sorts of trouble wherever he went. Yet, he was the sweetest soul of us all. He came into the band later, when we were clear that a record deal was imminent.”
About the same time, Kidd’s pharmaceutical entrepreneurship caught up to him, and he was shipped to prison on drug charges, leading to Mercury dumping The Demons, before Eliot was on the other side of the bars.  The Demons had been scheduled to head out on a world tour covering 180 dates with other Mercury artists, including David Bowie and Rush, whose Farewell To Kings had edged into the American Top 40, on its way to platinum status.
“The deal with Mercury was a huge deal,” Butler remembered, “but when Eliot was stuck in jail, and our drummer Mike died, Mercury dropped us.”
“It was a case of the people who signed us leaving for another company, and the new people not knowing us personally. Since we weren't a big money maker yet, we were expendable to new management. It was a mistake on their part.  We sold more albums in that brief time than anyone, with the probable exception of Patti Smith.”
Eliot’s four-month stint at Rikers had come to an end in early ’78, but he was so occupied with his court case that most everything else took a backseat, including the band.
The Demons were careening into the void, yet not all was lost.  As Punk was beginning to boil over, they had caught the attention of legendary record executive and then-Arista Records boss Clive Davis, who offered a $1 million contract ($3.9 million in 2019 dollars), but, as Butler recalls, “Eliot then tried to take over the band by asking for a 60% share of the band's stock. I refused and quit, despite the incredible deal.”
And now, fans of The Demons’ lone recording can only wish that the smattering of other recordings that found their way to tape would resurface.  Butler recalls, “There was a demo recorded at Electric Lady that was way more like the band really sounded, but it's lost in time. We also did a monster set at CBGB that was supposed to be a Live at CBGB vol. II, but the other bands on the record had gotten famous, and their labels didn't want it released, so Hilly recorded over the master tapes.”

Fair Play Meeting at Tuff Sound Recording | September 17, 2017
Summary Notes | Moderators: Heather Kropf (pictured), Christiane Leach & Shay (not pictured). This event had no panelists.
PLUS +
What Works About the Current Scene?
Culture of support - you don’t hear about it much until you leave
Everyone knows someone who knows someone - feels connected
Not competitive or less competitive, depending on genre
Not competitive so that you can experiment and find your own voice
Cost of living is reasonable to build a life in the music business
Many collaborators available — wide variety of musicians
Everyone is in everyone else’s band — musicians are shared
Easier networking than some places
Venues and the scene are built on the skill of the person running it
People can come together to build something
Many opportunities to play regionally
Musical variety
Heritage puts a flavor on all the sounds coming from the city, especially from not having certain opportunities
Artsburgh as a hub
WRCT - accesible
Music in the parks — love the programming
Solar powered shows
Producer meet-up at Tuff Sound
Studio scene cross pollinates a lot
Chill studio scene, not too cut throat
A variety of studios have good pianos
Variety of studio sizes and engineers
Foodie scene has begun to collaborate with live music
MINUS -
What’s Not Working About the Current Scene?
Music is so connected to the bar industry and drinking alcohol culture is stronger than culture to listen to the music
Audience enthusiasm is lacking
Culture not changing quickly enough
Market is oversaturated and people aren’t excited to see/hear music
Responsibility of the artist to put on better shows
Pittsburgh artists are too complacent — exception doesn’t match performance
Not checking for good sound
Live performance vs. a SHOW
Missing industry piece: performance coaching
People need to see other acts
Not enough jamming
Flip side of non-competitive is complacency
Are venues supportive?
Shadowlounge is gone and no replacement
Venues are perceived to take advantage of artists, promotions are reliant upon artists only, live music makes the bar money
No venues that are ladder up and out of city
Soundperson competence
Lack of commitment except by unique venues to commit to build a live music scene
Awesome bass for an electronica show
How to hire a sound person ?
Shows feel random
Low pay for sound people
Where does the money come from to support the musicians?
Bad parking
Bad public transportation — Uber/Lyft works but not for larger instruments
Studios that force you to book a block of time vs hourly rate
The feeling that the less you invest the less the studio/engineer will put in the effort
Blurry producer/engineer lines
People don’t speak the same language of creating in the studio
Writing as a live performance vs writing as a recording — how you record it makes it good
Dude culture in some studios that don’t believe women know things, especially technical things
No depth of bench to find session players for the nuances of performance and production styles
No awareness of all the session players available who CAN do it quickly and professionally
Trouble with budgeting for recordings
Players maybe don’t get enough work/practice/experience in a particular genre to be good enough for session work
Engineers could do better to respect women - don’t mansplain, don’t be a dick, don’t be a creep, and listen better
Leaking of players with ambition/talent to other cities
NEEDS & IDEAS
How Can We Make it Better or Easier?
Tax credits for musicians and artists, subsidies
Hosting all ages venues not relying on alcohol
Get state/county to invest in music (ex. Georgia/Atlanta)
10% of legislation of marijuana to the arts
Grant for monthly event, or weekly events
PDP - partnering with organization and being at the table
Reversing “Enticement” law from city code
School to Pro musician pipeline - music education, broadly
Busking - a pro-busking government
Hire a consultant for performance coaching — open up to musicians to participate, help elevate the craft and expectation
Social media, performance, paid to write songs. See CMOAA Event for example
Cohesive organization for Music. See Pittsburgh Film Office as example
Food truck style! A mobile sound truck. Subsidized rental truck for musicians.
Pop up concerts on city lots, purchase lots
Rate your club/venue - survey monkey survey
Database of musicians and artists interested
Start a new musicians union

Scruff’s Top 5
It has been a busy week, a great start to the 2019 season. Proms, hip hop shows, and soon weddings will be taking over the  calendar. Production wise I'm about 75% done with my next track, which means its about time to think about the next one i'm going to start. My  mentor says that your best track is the one you haven't started yet, so for me I need to keep on trucking, I want to see what my best track will look like. I have some ideas on what I want to start but nothing set in stone yet, I will keep everyone up to speed on the  process as time goes on. Friday I started my weekend off in Rock Rapids for Central Lyon's High School Prom. It amazes me how some music is still relevant after 10+ years, and some disappear after just a couple weeks. Overall, I got some pretty good song requests, which helps me out a lot, especially when it comes to school dances. It's hard to keep up with student trends, the music scene changes rapidly and I have found that the popularity of the artists can definitely dictate what songs I spin. Deciphering what can be played on school grounds is another beast to tackle, I have a responsibility to two totally different demographics at the same time. I want to keep the students dancing, keep them engaged, and ultimately make their night memorable. At the same time though, administration pays me, so keeping them happy is also on the agenda. I have found the happy medium for this school, but each one is different, so the battle forever continues. I will call this prom a success, the students had fun,  no complaints from staff, and booked for next year already. If that's not a successful evening, I don't know what is.  Saturday Lee and I made our way up to Worthington, Minnesota to perform/host a fundraiser for the Suicide Prevention Crisis Center/Hotline of Worthington. There were 10 artists on the bill and I can say that I was quite surprised with the level of talent that the performers gave. I can personally say that there was at least 1-2 tracks from each set that I would play out for a crowd at a club or show. For me, that says a lot because usually when dealing with local artists I have learned to accept what they do is a passion for them, but not necessarily marketable at that time. These guys came to bring the house down and they all played their parts in doing such. For me, it was great to be able to provide all the sound equipment needed for the show including mics. Just goes to show that there is potentially another avenue of revenue that can be invested in when the equipment isn't being used for another gig. It's not a perfect set up just yet but I can see the possibilities. Overall it was a successful event, and though it was a long weekend, I'd say it was a great start to the 2019 busy season.

Let's talk the 80's on the Sunset Strip. Some of us were there, but many more were not. People often ask about it, and I try to give people a good story or two. It's awesome to have experienced it, but to try and explain it, is near impossible. Let's take flyering for instance. How many flyers were handed out? Tens of thousands nightly, or maybe hundreds of thousands. So many, that by the end of the night, after clubs closed, the sidewalk looked like Mardi-Gras. There was a street cleaning crew in WeHo (West Hollywood) that would come down that section of Sunset Blvd to clean up the mess. Several men, brooms, garbage cans and a truck. I recall at times there being so many people, that there were police on horseback. It really was a scene. Easily thousands of people converged on that section of the Strip, between Whisky-A-Go-Go, The Roxy, Rainbow & Gazzarri's. I recently unearthed several hundred BAM magazines from 1982, thru the end of the era (early 90's). In one of the BAM's I found a full page ad from Bill Gazzarri. He was being sued, and had to go to court for the amount of handbills (flyers) that papered the street with his club’s name on them. Along with other parts of the city, and surrounding cities. Telephone poles, street lights, phone booths, the sides of banks and businesses and more. Even freeway overpasses were covered, like the Gangs would do with Graffiti. In looking back I recall being warned by the clubs, including the Troubadour and others were we fequently played. Bill Gazzarri was a good guy. RIP #SunsetStrip #Hollywood #California #1988 #Tuff 🎸🎤😊

How to gain confidence in your offroad driving abilities!
There are many different ways to gain confidence and grow more familiar with the capabilities of your vehicles off road performance.
It comes as a HUGE surprise to many new 4 Wheel Drivers that before you take your brand new (or new to you) 4WD vehicle off-road for the first time you won’t need to make ANY modifications.
Vehicle manufacturers spend millions of dollars every year to ensure that the vehicle you have purchased will offer a comfortable blend of performance and reliability in many different conditions and will provide a fairly even compromise of offroad ability in a range of varied terrain and weather conditions depending on the model of vehicle you are looking for.
Familiarity
The first thing you need to do is become familiar with your vehicle. Learn where all the controls are and how to operate them. Things like engaging 4WD and how to operate low range, will mean that when the pressure is on you aren’t pulling out your user’s manual to have a look at how it works (unless you really need too!).
  Start small
Just as with anything you undertake, starting small is the easiest way to learn a skill. You don’t have to enter TUFF TRUCK CHALLENGE with your 4WD to learn how to 4WD. We recommend finding a large gravel carpark and working out how to use 4WD and low range in a controlled comfortable environment.
Have a go at crawling along in 1st gear low range and letting your vehicle idle along. This is one of the most useful skills to have on tough sections of track as it prevents your wheels from spinning unnecessarily and digging you into soft terrain like sand or mud.
  Air Down
It’s easy enough to forget this all-important step, but the importance of airing down your tyre’s increases the contact area of your rubber. Making sure your tyres are let down accurately and low enough will add a surprising amount of offroad performance and grip without requiring fancy modifications such as ‘lockers’ or upgrading to more expensive offroad specific tyres.
There are many ways to let down your tyres down, and in many of our early years the solution was to use the end of your keys to drop pressures down, periodically using a conventional tyre gauge to ensure we’ve hit the desired pressures. This is time consuming, so learn from our mistakes and get yourself a dedicated and accurate Tyre deflator such as a Kwiky Tyre Deflator.
By quickly removing the core of your tyre valve in a controlled environment inside the Kwiky Tyre Deflator, you can quickly dump air pressures with the integrated release valve to gain additional tyre contact area, whilst still maintaining accurate air pressure balance between all 4 corners.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget a reliable 12v air compressor to air up your 4WD tyres! we use a Thumper max compressor for the fastest inflation
  Take a lesson
There are stacks of 4WD Schools out there, taking a lesson from a trained professional can enhance your off-road driving abilities with plenty of professional tips and tricks and instantly give you confidence in the ability of your 4WD in what would seemingly look like a hairy situation to untrained eyes.
A good lesson from a reputable school or club will give you all the tools you need to get your vehicle further offroad, avoiding damage and getting stuck in easy to get out of situations.
  Bring recovery gear!
No matter how far you are travelling off-road, whether it’s a quick trip or a massive expedition into the outback, it’s always a good idea to pack a reliable recovery gear kit.
Without bringing a reliable recovery kit with you, you may end up having to call for help resulting in being stranded for a long period of time. This can be embarrassing and expensive, some remote places charging 10s of thousands to recover a vehicle.
Getting yourself out of trouble can sometimes be as simple as reducing your tyre pressures a little bit more with a Kwiky Tyre Deflator.
However, in trickier situations having a fully kitted out Hercules Complete Recovery Kit you can setup full winch recoveries with a Domin8r X 12,000lb winch and even clear debris from under your vehicle making recoveries with the included Snatch Strap easier and hassle free.
Gaining confidence driving offroad doesn’t take long, simple preparation and a little bit of knowledge goes a long way. So get out there and have more fun offroad with equipment from 4WD Supacentre!

Module 9: Mystery at the Club Sandwich
• Genre Mystery
• Book Summary This book is about Nick Trunk, an elephant private investigator, and his unruly case of Lola Gale’s missing marbles. After performing on stage at the Club Sandwich, Lola goes to her dressing room and sees that her lucky marbles have been stoles. Lola Gale hires Nick Truck, via her assistant Maggie Trouble, and Nick Trunk is set on finding the culprit for a fee of peanuts. When Nick and Maggie arrive at Club Sandwich, Nick starts looking for evidence in Lola’s dressing room, as well as the whole club. Nick finds three suspects (Maggie Trouble the assistant, a magician, and the cook; who all are connected through the clues of an empty jar of peanut butter, a peanut butter smudge on the door, and an ostrich feather. Each suspect had access to the room, but Nick figured out who would have the most to gain from the stolen marbles, which was Maggie. After discovering Maggie ate a peanut butter sandwich that night, and a rejection letter from another club addressed to her, Nick Trunk knew the case was closed. To prove his claim, Nick found the marbles, which were hiding in plain sight inside the fish bowl, and revealed Maggie as the culprit. Although a nutty case, it still got cracked, thanks to Nick Trunk.
• APA Reference of Book Cushman, D. (2004). Mysteries at Club Sandwich. New York, NY: Clarion Books.
• Impressions I liked that it was a black and white picture book. Most picture books tend to drown in color and heavy illustrations, but this book was the first one I’ve seen that was monochromatic. In a way, it is a picture book for older kids (5th graders) because of the lack of color, the reader can focus more on the text than the illustrations. As a crime show buff, I knew who the culprit was before the end of the book. If the name Maggie Trouble didn’t give it away, it was a combination of her actions and drawn expressions that made her seem guilty. All in all, it was a pretty good whodunnit picture book for older kids.
• Professional Review Lola Gale has lost her marbles. Literally. Nick Trunk, private investigator, has been hired to find them. He’s a very good detective, but this case is a tough nut to crack. The only clues are an ostrich feather and lots of peanut butter—delicious peanut butter. Will Nick be able to solve this sticky crime? Monochromatic illustrations give this hilarious whodunit the dramatic feel of an old black-and-white movie, while endearing animal characters, plentiful P.I. and peanut puns, and a suspenseful but-not-too-hard-to-follow mystery make this a crime story that’s hard to put down. • APA Reference of Professional Review Mystery at the Club Sandwich. (2004, October 18). In Goodreads. Retrieved December 1, 2017, from https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/138096.Mystery_at_the_Club_Sandwich
• Library Uses The library could share this title, along with an activity that involves gathering evidence to solve a mystery. Either as simple as playing the Clue board game or as intense as an Escape Room, kids will have fun incorporating the story with real life mysteries they can solve together.
• Read-a-likes 1. Ace Lacewing, Bug Detective by David Biedrzycki (2005)- Both titles focus on anthropomorphic animals solving mysteries in a picture book. 2. Tuff Fluff: the case of Duckie’s missing brain by Scott Nash (2004)- Although the titles are geared towards different age groups, they both depict stories of animals solving cases among other animals. 3. The top secret files of Mother Goose by Gabby Gosling (2003)- Both titles are picture books that focus on solving mysteries among animals.
