Will oâ the Wisp - Ch. 11 (Umbrella Academy Complete) Diego x Reader
Authorâs note:Â The last chapter. I'm sorry this took so long. Rough translations in the end notes. (I'm not Spanish and haven't taken a course in it in 14 years, but to be fair neither of these characters are native speakers either. They would have learned it like anyone else.) While I was trying to finish this I did actually write most of the stories for season 2 and 3. Not sure if anyone would read those if I posted them. This one might get a POV shift and repost if I post those.
So as it goes, Y/N = your name. Y/N/N = your nickname. Reader pronouns She/Her.

Chapter 11: A Standoff and a Show
Y/N focuses back in on the Wisp as Viktor seems to have a conversation with himself. She wishes she could say something. That the Wisp could actually convey something helpful. But she canât.Â
"Thank you for trying, Y/N/N,"Â Viktor says, glancing at the Wisp. "I hope this won't hurt you." He apologizes to the Wisp before he uses his powers to take out the bunker wall. He ends up taking out the Wisp in the process.Â
It feels unusually painful when the wave of destruction hits the Wisp, causing Y/N to gasp violently. She would have stumbled if Diego hadn't been dragging her along. No one had ever essentially snuffed out one of her forms before but her.Â
"Hey!" Diego shouts after trying to get her attention for a few seconds. "You okay?" She stared at him wide-eyed. "No one has everâŚthe Wisp it-" she shivered, and he pulled her closer to him. They are too distracted to notice the ceiling above them give way. She and Diego are knocked out cold as part of it hits them. Klaus shouts for them. A larger section begins to separate. Klaus manages to pull her out of the way, and luckily, Ben somehow manages to pull Diego out of the way as a huge slab of the ceiling falls and would have crushed them. Klaus manages to get his sister up, but sheâs still confused and off-kilter so he half drags her with him. His other arm pulls his half-stunned brother. Thankfully, Diego recovers enough to move on his own quickly. She seemed so bewildered as they make it outside. They beg Grace to come out, to try and save herself, but she doesn't. It's too heartbreaking to think about. So Klaus focuses on his sister.
âCome on, Sunshine. Youâre freaking me out more than this place falling apart.â
âSorry,â she mumbles. She reaches up to get a look at the cut on her brotherâs forehead.
âWant me to?â she holds up her hand, but before she can even try to see if her powers she can control her powers while this out of sorts. They both turn their attention to Diego as he clamors over into the rubble of what was their childhood home.
âMom, mom! Guys, come here. Help me search!â Diego looks around the rubble frantically searching for Grace. Klaus looks at his sister and she shakes her head.Â
âDiego,â Klaus starts. âJust stop.â
âWhat?â Diego looks up at him confused as Klaus tries to pull him away. Y/N moves closer. Diego tries to go back to searching. âWhat are you-â Diego resists as Klaus continues to try and pull him away. Y/N cringes at the way Klaus pulls on their brotherâs injured arm. But it doesnât seem to phase Diego. âLet me go! What are you doing?â Diegoâs eyes snap to hers. âY/N, help me, mi luz.â She smiles sadly, and despite the uneasy feeling and pressure behind her eyes, she decides to help him her own way. Ignoring her doubt and pain, she draws on the Wisp. It takes her longer than usual to pull enough strength, but she manages. She uses the weakened orb to search the rubble at light speed.Â
âDiego,â she starts as her vision adjusts, but Klaus has managed to pull him to his feet.
âStop, stop!â Klaus tells him. âSheâs gone. Sheâs-sheâs gone, okay?â Diego doesnât want to believe it. He looks over at their sister.Â
âIâm sorry, Diego,â she puts a hand on his chest. âI checked. Itâs just rubble.â She lets that sink in. "I know this is hard for you. No one loved her as much as you did. But we need to focus. I need you to focus. Because we canât lose anyone else."Â
âWhat do you wanna do?â Diego challenges. âYou wanna... wannaâŚw-w-walk away from this? What about Pogo?âÂ
âHe didnât make it,â Luther says. Â
âWhat?â Diego asks as they all turn to their approaching siblings. Allison goes over to hug her sister. The silent sister pulled back to get a look at the other. The blood on the usually glowing sibling was a stark contrast with her unusually pale completion. Allison tries to wipe off some of the blood. She also doesn't like the way their brother is supporting most of her weight. Diego keeps a tight grip on her as he talks to Luther. Glancing over at the sisters now on and off.
âViktor killed him,â Luther states.
âBut Viktor wouldnâtâŚâ their brother says.
âNo, I saw it,â Luther insists. âJust before we got out.â
âI'm mostly just tired,â Y/N assures her as she continues to check for worse injuries.Â
The brothers continue. âMom. Now Pogo.â Diego, consciously or not, pulls his luz closer as he tries to process everything that has happened. It finally registers how shaky she is. He ignores the ache in his bad arm as he reaches his hand over and takes her wrist. Solid pulse but her temperature seemed off again. Chilled for her. Allison was clearly onto something, fussing over their sister. But he didn't have time to figure it out. Five shows up with unsettling news.Â
âGuys,â Five starts. âThis is it. The apocalypse is still on. The world ends today.â
âI thought you said it was over,â Luther says.
âI was wrong, okay?â Five admits. âThis newspaper, I found it in the future
the day I got stuck. The headline hasn't changed.â
âNo, that doesn't mean anything,â Diego insists. Â
âTime could've been altered since that newspaper came out this morning.âÂ
âYou're not listening to me,â Five continues. âWhen I found it, I assumed this place came down along with everything else. But here we are. The Moon's still shining, the Earth is in one piece.â
âFiveâŚâ his closest sibling starts.Â
âBut not the Academy.â
âI'm confused,â Klaus states.
âThen listen to me, you idiot!â Five shouts. âViktor destroys the Academy before the apocalypse.â Five sighs. âI thought Harold Jenkins was the cause, but he was the fuse. Viktor is the bomb. Viktor causes the apocalypse.â
âWe have to find him.â
Sirens can be heard in the distance as well as the whirling of helicopter blades.Â
âWe gotta go, now,â Diego says. He takes his sister's shaking hand in his and squeezes it. He gets an uneasy feeling in his stomach when he realizes the wisp is still nowhere to be seen. Something that only usually happens when it rains or she is in a crowd trying to blend in. She rarely kept her light to herself. Her lack of a bright glow didn't bode well, but he didn't have time to do anything about it now. Once they got where they were going, he would deal with it.Â
âRegroup at the Super Star. Go!â
âWhoa, hey,â Diego asks as they make their way into the bowling alley. In the bright lights, he gets a good look at her and it worries him. âYou don't look so good.â He leads her to a bench near the door and helps her sit. âHow are you feeling?â He brushes the hair out of her face and tips her head back slightly to see her face. He barely gets a look at her bloodshot eyes as she winces at the harsh fluorescent lights.
âHead hurts,â she admits. âBut it's fine.â
âIt's not fine, you got knocked out. Where exactly-â he lets her lower her head as he runs his fingers carefully through her hair for serious injuries. Her breath hitches and she whimpers as he finds a nasty bump. It tugs at something in his chest as her shaking fingers grip at his jacket.
âLo siento, mi luz,â he says as he shifts. He gently guides her to lean into his shoulder when he sits down beside her.
âLets just regroup,â she tells him. âThen figure it out.â
âRight, okay,â he keeps her tucked into his side while he keeps an eye out for the others. He ignores the odd looks from employees.Â
Klaus comes over when he sees them.Â
âBoy am I glad to see you guys,â he says.Â
âStay with her,â Diego says in a slight whisper.
Klaus gives him an odd look at how she didn't protest to being shifted around by her brothers. She just leans into Klaus much like she had in the car.
âHow hard did that ceiling hit you?â Klaus mutters as Diego leaves. It seemed odd that Diego was up and moving like barely anything happened but she was practically out cold again. No one around them can hear how Ben complains she needs sleep as he worriedly studies his sister.Â
Klaus hums in agreement but doesn't say anything else until Diego comes back and tosses a bag and some bowling shoes on the bench.Â
âCome on,â Diego says as he wakes her up enough to get her on her feet. He takes most of her weight again as he does. âAnd bring all that.âÂ
He leads them to a lane and gets their sister settled on a bench.Â
âPut those on,â Diego gestures to the bowling shoes as he grabs the small duffle bag.
âWhere did you get that?â Klaus asks.Â
âLocker,â Diego tells him as he tugs a zipper hoodie out of the bag.Â
âWhat are you doing?â Klaus asks.
âWill you just do what I told you to and keep an eye out for the others?â Diego grits out before turning back to Y/N. âWork with me here, Luz.â
Klaus watches as his brother helps her get out of her jacket. He shakes some of the debris and dust off it as he tosses it aside. Klaus wasn't sure the last time he saw his grumpy brother act so gentle. Even Ben finds it interesting as Diego adjusts the clearly oversized hoodie on the female and carefully zips it up. He pulls the hood up to shield her eyes from the light.
âLos demĂĄs llegarĂĄn pronto. SĂłlo relĂĄjate por ahora,â Diego quietly tells her. He goes to pull away to make sure Klaus had actually done what he asked when her hand grips his.
âDonât leave me,â she begs. And whatever he was planning on doing doesn't matter.Â
âNot going anywhere, Luz,â he assures her as he sits down beside her. âNot going to let anything happen either.âÂ
He puts his arm around her and she snuggles into him. Klaus is damn near giddy when Diego looks up at him.
âDon't start,â Diego cautions. âShe's exhausted and hurt.â
So Klaus doesn't ask about the fact the two siblings used to hate each other are now cuddled on a bench. âWhy am I not surprised you have a locker here with a bug out bag? That is just the most you thing ever.â
âIt's called being prepared,â Diego states. âBe useful and put names in, will you?âÂ
The rest of their siblings join them, except of course Viktor.Â
Allison goes over and tugs her sister up and leads her to the ladies' room. Allison raises an eyebrow at Diegoâs sweatshirt. The slightly glowing sibling shrugs because she didnât hate it. And she was too exhausted to be embarrassed. It was clean and warm and it smelled like Diego. Allisonâs amusement disappears at the amount of dirt and blood that comes away as Y/N washes her face as best she can.Â
âIâm mostly just tired,â Y/N tells her sister.
Allison scribbles on her notepad. âBecause of blood loss.â Then Allison points at her throat.
âItâs not that,â the light bender assures her. âItâs from the Wisp. It was in the bunker when V took it down.â Allison looks like she is about to ask another question. âWe should get back. We need a plan.â Â
Their names are on the scoreboard above the lane as they return. Y/N drifts in and out where she is stretched out across one of the three-seat benches. Her jacket under her head. It's not comfortable but she doesn't have to hold her head up. Without getting up she uses an orb to knock the pins down when it is her turn. She doesnât care if draws extra attention. Diego takes a frame for her when she is too out of it to notice. She tries to listen as they talk.Â
"How you feeling, Sunshine?" Klaus kneels next to her. She cracks one eye open at him and regrets it. He puts his hand up to shield her eyes from the harsh lights, tugs the hood back over her eyes with his other hand. "That bad huh?"
"Honestly, I've never felt anything like that, Klaus. Worse than when Dad would try to drown the Wisp in training. My fully formed Wisp was snuffed out like it was nothing. Not just dampened or forced to shift. It was stamped out. Extinguished. It wasn't like when I let one fade it was likeâŚyou know when you put a lid on a candle and the flame dies as it burns through the only oxygen until it can't sustain it?"
"Yeah," Klaus says.
"The smoke builds up, and the oxygen is just gone."
"I'm following," he says.
"It was like that but in an instant. The Wisp was gone, and it was like nothing was there, then that build-up was in my head. Like my powers didn't have what they needed to work, and my brain couldn't process it for a moment. Then it came back, but the pressure had done its damage."
"Okay,â Klaus nods. âForget the bowling. You just take it easy."
âYou sure?â she asks.
âYup,â he assures her. âLet the Wisp recover.â
"I'll do my best," she smiles.Â
Klaus takes her next frame, but slowly the siblings begin to focus more on the planning than the bowling.Â
âHello! I hate to intrudeâŚâ the female employee says to them. âBut my manager says if youâre not gonna bowl, you gotta leave.â To emphasize the point, the manager slaps a set of bowling shoes on the counter.Â
âWhose turn is it?â Diego asks.
âOh for-â Luther hurls a bowling ball like it was made of nothing without looking behind him, and it clatters a few lanes over towards the pins. It would have been comical if their situation wasnât so dire.Â
âWe're the only ones capable of stopping this,â Luther states. âWe have a responsibility to Dad.â
âTo Dad?âÂ
âNo, I've heard enough about-â
Even Y/N groans because she is done doing anything for the man who used to use her against her family.
âHe sacrificed everything to bring us back together,â Luther argues.Â
âI'm with Luther on this one,â Five says. âWe can't give him a chance to fight back. There are billions of lives at stake. We're past trying to save just one.â
âHey, you know, guys, uh maybe I could help,â Klaus offers. That gets his lounging sister's attention. She sits up and pulls the hood back to fully join the conversation. Five and Luther seem very annoyed by that offer.Â
âNow is not the time.â
âNo, let him finish,â Diego interjects to support Klaus. âHe saved our lives today. Mine and Y/N.â
âIs that true?â their brother asks, looking at the three of them.Â
âWhy would Diego lie?â Y/N asks.
âYeah, yeah, I did take credit for it. And I did save Sunshine,â Klaus says, smiling at her. âBut it wasn't all me. In fact, the real hero was Ben. Today. Listen. Today, he punched me in the face.â Y/N didn't think he was lying but still looked at him in confusion. He continues. âAnd earlier at the house, he was the one who saved Diego's life, not me.âÂ
âYou are unbelievable, Klaus.â
âCome on, you guys. He has a point, I think. I mean, I was out of it,â she shakes her head. âHow could he have saved both of us on his own? I was already dead weight. How could he have gotten me out and Diego?â They still look like they donât believe him.
âYou want proof, is that it? All right. I'll give you proof.â Klaus picks up a bright pink bowling ball. âAll right, it's showtime, baby. Catch!â He throws a bowling ball, and nothing happens. The ball just hits the ground and bounces away. She sighs. She loved her ridiculous brother and she didn't think he was lying. She just didn't know what to believe.Â
âIs there any way to silence that voice in your head that screams out to be the center of attention?â Luther asks him.Â
âYou know, I liked you a lot better before you got laid,â Klaus retorts without thinking. He tries to backpedal when he realizes how Allison reacts. âWhich was a complete It It wasn't his fault, 'cause he was ridiculously high, right? And the girl, she thought he was a furry.â
âStop!â Â
âOkay.â
âAllison, wait.â Luther goes after Allison. Y/N shakes her head and lays back down, and mostly tunes out. Using the same sort of focus on her surroundings as her body gets when she utilizes the Wisp. The only difference is her powers are still inside her. It isnât something she usually let herself do. It would usually make her paranoid, but Diego and Klaus had made it clear they wouldnât let anything happen to her. Five was there too. Nothing was getting past all three of them. Her glow was masked by the harsh fluorescent lights and the neon lights around them. She tunes back in when an unfamiliar voice speaks.
âExcuse me!â The overly cheery womanâs voice says as she approaches. âItâs my son Kennyâs birthday today. And wouldnât your son be happier with kids his own age? Assuming thatâs okay with your two dads.â Diego just stares at the woman as Klaus looks over at Diego. Y/N tries so hard not to laugh from where she is sprawled out across the bench of seats across from them. Her eyes closed against the fluorescent lights. Â
âI would rather chew off my own foot,â Five hisses.
âLetâs go, Kenny,â the woman says as they hurry away.
âIf I were going to date a man, youâd be the last one I would date,â Diego tells Klaus.
âYouâd be lucky to get me,â Klaus teases. âBut you're sweet on Sunshine, aren't you, tough guy? What do you call her, your light?â
She tunes out the two as they argue. She doesnât even open her eyes when she feels someone standing over her. She doesnât need to in order to know who it is. She can just tell itâs Diego. âYou worry too much. It radiates off you more than I do light.â She reaches up blindly and pats his chest, the handle of a knife cold against her palm. âIâm fine, just not feeling the bright lights.â
âCome on, sit up,â he says.Â
âYou just donât want to be mistaken for Klausâ boytoy again,â she grumbles but sits up anyway. She leans back against him once he sits down. He rubs her temples like he always sees her doing. She groans and pretty much melts into him. He grins to himself.
âWhen I asked you two to get along, I didnât mean that well,â Five states.Â
âFuck off,â Diego says, as he keeps the pressure on her temples.
âWell, you get what you get, and you donât get upset,â she mumbles.
âItâs almost more annoying than when you two constantly fought,â Five says.
âNah, you missed the worst of it,â Klaus tells him. âItâs amazing Diego didnât spontaneously combust some days from her glaring. Especially one time he cut off a chunk of her hair in training. Iâm shocked no one had to call the fire department on that one.â Klaus kept talking, she ignores him.
"CariĂąo," she says as she pats Diego's leg. "Agradezco la ayuda, pero tienes que seguir jugando a los bolos o nos echarĂĄn."Â
"EstĂĄ bien,â he nods. âEstĂĄ bien." He helps her sit up and kisses her forehead. Klaus smirks at that and nods when Ben says he'll watch her so she doesn't fall over.
Klaus and Diego take turns bowling.
She is pretty sure she dozed off for a few because she wakes up to dark lenses of sunglasses covering her eyes and leaning against Diego. She isn't sure who managed to put the sunglasses on her without her even feeling it or waking up. But she gives up on that line of thought as Luther asks. "All right, where's Five?"Â
"He left." She looks around, not sure what she was expecting. Their brother has seemingly vanished again. Something else she slept through.
"Oh, for the love of-Where'd he go?" Luther asks.Â
"Didn't tell us."
"Well, we're not waiting around for him."
"The concert starts in 30 minutes."
"All right, so what's the plan?"Â
Diego gets up to make sure he's ready now that he wasn't being used as a pillow. He checked his knives were all in place.Â
"Well, I think that," Luther says. "Uh We go to the Icarus Theater."
"That's a location, not a plan." Diego points out.
"What?"
"Is that all you got?â Diego asks. âLook, you wanna be Number One, fine, but you're gonna have to get us on the same page, because right now, we're all over the place."
"You're right. We need a plan."
The bullets start flying as soon as the armored, glowing-eyed and gas-masked gunmen enter the bowling alley.
"Get down!"Â
They all scramble for cover.
"Who the hell are these guys?" Diego asks. He pulls Y/N tight to his chest as they shelter from the bullets. She is sandwiched between Diego and Luther. Both keeping her blocked. She has one hand gripping the arm around her torso. The other grips the arm that Luther had thrown out to help cover them. Or keep her upright. She isn't sure.Â
âMaybe theyâre here for Kennyâs birthday!" Klaus shouts from where he and Allison hide.
"No, I'm pretty sure they're here for us!" Luther argues.
"They're blocking the exits."
"Diego," she says. He looks down at her.Â
"I got you," he says. "Just stay close and donât let go." He throws a knife with enough force to knock one of the gunmen out. The masked figure taking out the lights as they did. Black lights, neon signs, and the persistent glowing from Y/N's powers light the area. She takes advantage of the darkness and throws out multiple forms of the Wisp to try and confuse and disorient their attackers while the others use whatever they can find, including Kenny's birthday cake, to make an escape. Diego takes her hand and leads her while both continue to defend and defect any oncoming attacks. They made their way up the lanes without falling somehow. The Wisp hold the gunman off long enough to keep anyone from getting shot. Between adrenaline and her little nap, she was managing better than she had been before.
Diego's hand has barely left hers since he took it so he could pull her along with him. He let go only long enough for her to get past the machinery of the lane. And again when she superheated both hands to melt the lock on the door they ran out of in order to slow down their pursuers. She quickly found his again once her's were cool enough to touch. If anyone noticed they haven't mentioned it. Even as they pass under the brightly lit marquee.Â
Allison stops Luther making all of them stop as they clear the lobby and reach the stairs.Â
âWhaâŚâ a confused Luther starts but stops when she holds up a note saying she needs to go alone.Â
âAllison, I can't let you do that, all right? She's beyond reasoning.â
âYou hear the music?â Diego asks. Y/N nods. He turns back to the others. âIt's started.â
âDo you honestly think she's gonna listen?â Luther pushes. âAfter everything that's happened?â
âWe don't have time for this,â Klaus says.
âOkay,â Luther agrees to let Allison go in alone. They watch as Allison leaves.Â
âYou're using her as a distraction, aren't you?â Diego asks Luther.
âIt's our best chance to incapacitate Viktor,â Luther reasons. âShe'll thank us later.â
âFor the record, I hate this plan,â Y/N states as Diego starts up the stairs, a slight tug at their joined hands has her following.
âNoted,â Luther says as he starts to go as well.Â
âSo, what's the plan?â Klaus asks.Â
âUh,â Luther turns back to tell him. âYou wait out front.â
âWhat?â Klaus asks.
âYeah, youâre the lookout.â
âThe lookout?â Klaus asks in disbelief. He looks up at his sister, who had forced Diego to stop, much to his annoyance. She looks back at Klaus.
âYou and Ben, two sets of eyes,â she assures him as Diego tugs again to get her moving. âYouâll do great!â She adds before she is dragged too far for him to hear.Â
Diego drops her hand and opens the backstage door. She hurries inside and moves to get a good look at the stage.Â
She looks on in awe as Viktor plays. She feels Diego step beside her. She looks at him. He looks back at her. He thinks for a second how this all might end with them all dead and this may be their last moment of peace, ever.
"Fuck it," he mutters before pulling her into a kiss. She is shocked but recovers quickly and kisses him back. They pull apart for air. He notices the light coming off her is warm and golden for the first time in over a decade.Â
She wishes they could stay like that forever. Unfortunately, their little bubble is shattered by an object hitting the floor beside the. They look up to see Luther glaring at them and gesturing towards Viktor. Diego looks over at her one last time.Â
âStay here, maintain visual, use the Wisp if you see an opportunity,â Diego instructs.
âBe careful,â she tells him. He nods. They both look at Luther. Diego signals he's ready.Â
While Viktor has his focus on Allison, Diego and Luther go in for the ambush.
Viktor knocks them back with a blast. Y/N curses but stays in the wings. Not willing to risk a move too soon.
âShe's stronger than expected,â Diego says as he sits beside Luther.Â
"Yeah," Luther agrees but is distracted when something hits him in the head. He turns to see Allison. âYeah. We're fine, thanks for asking," Luther says to a clearly frustrated Allison. Luther continues trying to rationalize their actions.âLook, I almost lost you once, all right?â Luther tells her. âI wasn't about to lose you again.â
âWell, so much for the element of surprise,â Diego complains. âWhat else you got?â
Allison hit the seat to get their attention. She mimics playing a violin.Â
âNo shit, Allison,â a frustrated Diego says, âTell us something we don't already know.â
âShe's talking about the violin,â their brother says. âIt's her lightning rod. If we can take it from her and stop her from playing, we might have a shot.â
âI told Y/N if she gets a shot with the Wisp to take it,â Diego tells them.
Allison throws a shoe that was near her at him.
âBelieve me, I donât like it either,â Diego glares at her. âBut what was I supposed to do, tell her to stay outside with Klaus? She still only listens to me about half the time. Sheâd never have gone for that.âÂ
Still backstage Y/N doesnât bother summoning the Wisp. She slowly makes her way on stage. She puts her hands up as she nears the conductor. Trying to signal for him to leave but he and the musicians looked more scared of what their soloist might do if they stopped. So they kept going. Viktorâs eyes locked on his glowing sister's. She lets her light show, attempting to distract him long enough for their siblings to come up with something.Â
Allison hits the seat again to get their attention. They look at her and she points at the stage. The glow from Viktor now joined by their sisterâs.Â
Diego curses. âI told her to stay put.â
âSheâs made it closer than we did.â Luther states.Â
They watch as Y/N reaches a hand out to Viktor. Viktorâs gaze narrows at her but is drawn away as the armed gunmen storm in. Whether intentional to get her off the stage or to just knock everyone back, Viktor sends out another burst that sends Y/N offstage. Diego doesnât hesitate to run towards her. Allison and Luther not far behind.Â
âLuz!â Diego helps her sit up. âTalk to me, Luz.â Â
She groans. âHurt less than the first time, but damn. I think my concussion has a concussion,â Â
The gunmen shoot at the area around the. Y/N throws a fully formed Wisp out to get an better vantage point, as Diego pulls her down to cover her. She curses as her usual tricks donât work because of the lighted goggles.Â
âWhat the hell happened to Klaus,â Diego shouts Luther. âHeâs supposed to be our lookout!âÂ
âYeah, are you surprised?â Luther asks.
âThose stupid goggles! I canât do shit like this!â Y/N shouts. Her body no longer glowing but her eyes shine bright. She continues, âI either have to go hands-on or-â
âDonât even think about it!â Diego refuses.Â
âYou want me to just sit here and do nothing?â She hisses.
âBe a better lookout!â he suggests.Â
She looks over at Luther. âCanât hurt,â Luther adds, âYou can at least tell us where theyâre at.â
âFine!â She shouts. Just as Five reappears in the aisle.
"What's with all the lollygagging?" Five asks.
"Five, get down," their brother demands.
"Y/N, do it,â Luther tells her.Â
She and Diego share a look before she seems to steady herself and starts to pull away. He knows he told her to do it, but his instinct is to pull her back and keep her sheltered, but he sees the way her fists are starting to glow, her eyes bright to match. She nods. He nods back. They had to do something. The Wisp glides above them with ease. As she start to relay numbers and locations, Klaus comes running in. âGuys, itâs Cha-Cha! Itâs Cha-Cha. Sheâs come!â He ducks as the gunmen take aim at him. Five teleports onto the back of the nearest gunman. The Wisp drops in front of another one. She superheats the Wisp and pushes it forward, focusing the heat on the masked figureâs ammo clip. Igniting the gunpowder in the rounds, sending shrapnel into the air and the gunman. She goes to repeat the process but sheâs not sure how long she can actually keep it up. Sheâs out of practice, recovering from being shot, she has a concussion and a desperate need for sleep, but she keeps going. Adrenaline flows and she knows she needs to focus. Her attention is drawn as she hears her siblings.
"Is that?"
"Ben?"Â
Klaus had managed to summon Ben with his powers, and Ben uses his powers to take out the gunmen. She pushes Diego off of her to get a better look. To confirm what she is seeing from the Wisp.Â
She half sobs her mind trying to wrap around not only seeing her lost brother but at seeing his power from dual perspectives. She wants to never forget that moment. The ghostly tentacles whip past her and the Wisp with precision as they find their targets.
âNow whoâs the lookout?â Klaus says, clearly proud of himself. Â
âMe you dumbass, since when could you do that?!â She shouts at him.
Diego sees his opportunity as his siblings argue and goes after Cha Cha when the assassin stepped on stage. Cha Cha was focused on the chaos the siblings were creating. He glances at his siblings, Klaus and Y/N now together. Diego knows this is probably his only shot at revenge. So he takes it. After a bit of a scuffle He manages to get the upper hand and Cha-Cha is at his will. He could kill her. He should kill her for Patch. For all the people she has killed with no remorse. They had injured not just him but his siblings. She deserved it for what she did to Klaus. But what Five said to him gives him pause. He had meant it when he said that Eudora had seen the good inside, despite seeing the worst in the world. âWell, I'm sure she'll be proud to know that you're killing Hazel and Cha-Cha as a way to honor her memoryâ. That is what Five had said. In that moment, when the academy still existed, Diego had looked to Luz. She didnât admonish him. She didnât say anything. She just gave him a sad smile. She had always been the one to challenge him when he was about to do something stupid. If the world wasnât ending and she wasnât fighting her own fight, would she try and convince him not to do this? She would probably tell him to focus. That she needed him. That he could still make the right decision.  Â
The eighth sibling looked over at the first. As they started to refocus on Viktor.Â
"You got closest, see what you can do!" Luther tells the one sibling who seemed to actually be willing to take orders from him right now. She nods and splits her attention to the Wisp to try and get to Viktor. She starts to get that uneasy feeling she felt at the academy.
"Luther!" Her glowing eyes lock on his. "I'll try, but V has taken the Wisp out once already today, I'll have one shot at that violin! No recovery time! This is it!â
"If we fail it won't matter!"Â
"Well then, I guess I'll see you on the other side, Number One!â She splits her focus and inches both the Wisp and her glowing physical form down the aisle.
"What did she mean about the Wisp?" He asks Klaus.Â
"Viktor snuffed the Wisp out in the bunker. Her powers freaked out, saying it was like putting the lid on a candle and it dies from lack of oxygen. It was like her powers didn't have what they needed to work, and it took a minute to get them back. Thatâs why we were trying to get her to rest instead of bowling."
Allison glares at him.
"Why didn't she say anything?" Luther asks.
"She did to me. And Allison probably would have asked if she could. You just didn't.â
âWhy didnât you say anything?!â Luther shouts.
âYou were mad about Five and then bullets!â
"That would explain why she said she'd have one shot," Luther admits. They look over at their glowing sister. âSheâs our best shot right now, If she fails or worse dies-â Allison shoves his shoulder despite it having little effect.
"Let's not find out," Klaus says. "Apocalypse be damned, Diego might kill all of us if that happens." He looks at Luther. âEspecially you.â
âWhy me?â
âYou told her to do it,â Klaus says. Luther looks at Allison and she shrugs.Â
Luther goes to say something but stops when Diego rejoins them.Â
"Oh, welcome back."
"Where were you?"Â
"Honoring a memory," Diego says. Allison squeezes his shoulder.Â
"What is she doing?"Â Diego asks as he looks over both Y/N and the Wisp.Â
"Trying to use the Wisp to get the violin from Viktor. But she said Viktor took the Wisp out already, and she has one shot."
âAnd you all are just going to sit here and watch?!â
"Well, let's give her a hand."
"How?"
"We surround Viktor."
"All right? We come at him from all angles."
"So it's a suicide mission."
"Yeah, but one of us could get through."
"And Y/N has a head start and the best odds."
"It's the only chance we've got."
"Are we all in?"
"Yeah."
"All right."
"Allison?âÂ
âStage left,â Luther says nudging Diego. He indicates himself. âStage right..
"You guys back Y/N up and take the front."
Allison tries to get his focus. To try and get him to consider Viktor and other options.Â
"I'm sorry,â he tells her. "There's no time, Allison. If she finishes this concert, the world goes up in flames. Do this for Y/N. We can save her.â
She hears Klaus's voice in her ear. "Stay behind us." She nods and shifts enough of her concentration to move when he does. She barely had it in her but she does it.Â
The rush of air from the constant vibrations and force of Vâs powers had her straining. Viktor was strong, but their powers had been dulled for years. Y/N always had hers. She should be stronger. Â
âNow!â her brother calls.
She gives everything she can spare over to the Wisp. She could feel her body struggling, but she ignored it. Ignored how every little scrape and bruise, even the air in her lungs, seemed to burn. But she pushed forward until Viktorâs power latched onto the Wisp. Quickly draining the lighted form. The shock of the loss has her body falling but never hitting the ground. She feels someone has caught her.Â
âI canât-itâs-,â her voice is broken and almost too quiet, but the figure holding her hears it tightens their grip. She tries to clear her vision, and it takes a few tries before she is successful.Â
âBen,â she sobs when she realizes who it is. Ben had gotten Klaus to true again when he realized what was happening. Klaus hadn't argued when he'd glanced back to see fresh blood drops in the floor. He wished he could see her face but her eyes had been too bright. So he focused and let Ben help.Â
She stares at her long lost brother, but can only focus for a second before she feels Viktor's powers latch on to her physical body this time. The ghostly form of Ben fading. She strains to see others suffering from the same treatment. She can barely keep her eyes open.
Allison puts an end to Viktor's rampage by firing a gun next to Viktor's ear. Y/N can't brace herself enough as she hits the ground. Y/N tries to pull on any energy she still has left in order to stand up but she fails, causing her to whimper.
"Shhh, it's okay." Klaus gently rolls her onto her back and Diego drops down beside her and pulls her against him. Klaus would almost laugh at how possessive it seems if everything didn't seem so desperate. Diego holds her so they can get a look at her. She looks so fragile and drained. Diego has never seen her push so hard. He carefully wipes blood away from the corner of her eyes before he pulls her tight against his chest. Kissing the top of her head. Klaus goes to checkmon the others. She curls up against Diego and hides her face in his neck. It feels like a part of her is missing. Like a piece of her soul is damaged. He manages. He holds her tight, but he feels her weakly push against him. He pulls back enough to see her.
âVâŚâ she starts, trying to get to her feet. And he couldn't tell her no. Not after what just happened. Not with her blood stained cheeks and tear filled eyes. He doesn't have it in him. Diego helps her over to Viktor. She picks Viktorâs hand up off the floor and holds it tight.Â
"Sunshine," Klaus smiles down at her before sitting beside her.Â
âKlaus! Ben, he caught me. You-â
âHe did, didn't he,â Klaus chuckles. âHe watches over you when we're around just like you always did us.â She rubs at her face as the blood and tear mixture blocks her vision again. Diego stops her. She looks like she might go to tears again.
Klaus takes pity on her. "Oh Sunshine, what did you do?" He takes the edge of his vest and tries to clean some of the blood off her face and neck.
"Not a good look for me, huh?" She jokes.Â
Klaus tuts. "You always look good, right, Diego?"
"She does," he agrees. She feels his answers rumble in his chest as she leans against him.Â
"And I'm the one with head trauma and maybe internal bleeding." She uses a shaky hand to wipe at her sore eyes again. This time Diego catches her hand and pulls it away. He knows her other one won't be letting go of Viktor's anytime soon.Â
"You're gonna make it worse,â he tells her as he intertwines their fingers. âWe'll get you cleaned up soon.â
She looks past him at the moon, Klaus follows her gaze.
"Well,â she does her best to look at Diego as she gestures weakly to the sky with their joined hands. âYou won't have to worry about it for long, cari."
"Uh, Guys?â Klaus says. âYou see that big moon rock coming towards us?"
"That's not good."
"So this is it, huh?âÂ
âSo much for saving the world," Klaus says as he looks down at the dog tags.
"If only Sir Reginald could see us right now, huh?" Diego says. "The Umbrella Academy A total failure.â He stares up at the fractured moon.Â
âAt least we're together at the end,â Luther says. âAs a family.â
âThis doesn't have to be the end,â Five tells them.
âWhat? What are you saying, Five?â
âI think I have a way outta here,â Five says. âBut you gotta trust me on this.â
The three brothers all reject that idea. Y/N smiles despite herself. These were her brothers after all.
âWell, then, we might as well accept our fate,â Five states. âBecause in less than a minute, we're gonna be vaporized.â
Diego looks down at Y/N. She gives him the sad smile heâd only started to decipher because itâs heartbreaking for both of them. Heâs pretty sure heâs right when she squeezes his hand. All he knows is this cannot be the end. He looks back at Five.Â
âWhat's your idea, then?âÂ
âWe use my ability to time travel,â Five starts to explain. âBut this time, I'll take you with me.â
âYou can do that?â Diego asks.
âI don't know.â Fives answers honestly. âI've never tried it before.â
âWhat's the worst that can happen?â Diego asks.
âYou're lookin' at it.â Five states. âA 58-year-old man inside a child's body, so there's that.â
ÂżQuĂŠ te parece, luz?â He asks as he looks down at her again.
âNo puede ser peor que esto,â she tells him.
âWeâre in,â Diego says.Â
âYeah, whatever.â Klaus says. âI'm in.â
âMe too,â Luther agrees. âAllison?â Allison nods her agreement. âWhat about Ben?â
âGreat, yeah,â Klaus answers accurately for once. âHe's in.â
âOkay, great,â Five says.Â
Diego goes to pick Y/N up but she shakes her head.
"I think I can stand or...at least lean," she assures them. Klaus helps Diego get her up on her feet and she curls into Diego's side. Her head lulls against his shoulder. "I'm okay, I know you've got me," she assures him. She feels his lips press against her temple.Â
"Luther, grab Viktor," Five tells him.Â
Luther does it but he ask. "Wait, should we be taking him? I mean, if he's the cause of the apocalypse. Isn't that like taking the bomb with us?"
"The apocalypse will always happen,â Five states as he gets them to start joining hands. âAnd Viktor will always be the cause, unless we take them with us and fix them."
Diego puts wraps his arm just under Y/N's shoulder to keep her there. He wasnât going to lose her now. Her hand searches blindly until Klaus grasps it tight. They anxiously watch as Five draws on a larger portion of his powers than usual. Diego hadnât realized how much light was involved with so many of their siblingsâ powers. Y/N, Viktor, Five. Even Klausâs power had a glowing aspect to it.Â
"Ah! It's working!â Five tells them. âHold on! It's gonna get messy!"
They all vanish under Fiveâs powers.

The NFL began to institute reforms [in response to 2010s concerns about brain injury]. New on-field rules were put in place: Defenders were prohibited from lowering their heads to tackle an opponent with their helmet or from hitting âdefenselessâ players in the head or neck. Contact was limited during practice, and the league instituted a âconcussion protocolâ every concussed player must follow before returning to the field. There were now âspottersâ at every game, whose sole job is to survey the field for players who might be injured, and independent neurological consultants to offer a medical diagnosis that would theoretically be uninfluenced by a teamâs desire to get its players back on the field. Concussions were still happening every Sunday, but the league appeared to be trying to alleviate the problem and it became easier for fans to watch with a cleaner conscience.
The media also stopped covering the subject with the same urgency. âYou know enough about the press to know that one reporter comes along and is able to gain traction with something, it gets exposed and then everybody moves on,â [Alan] Schwarz [a sportswriter who has extensively written about CTE among football players] said. Investigative journalism in the sports world has shrunk â the sports department Schwarz worked for at the Times no longer exists â and the NFL was now in business with practically every major media company. Even Schwarz admitted that it became hard to find fresh ways to write about the issue. âIt got tedious â âOh my God, another dead player had CTE,ââ he said. âIt got to be sort of, âDuh.ââ
When we spoke, Schwarz said he could think of only one thing that might produce an actual recalibration of how Americans think about footballâs risks. âEverything would be different if an NFL player died on the field due to head trauma,â Schwarz said. âIf Tua were to seize up and somehow not recover, then that would change the entire conversation.â ... Chris Nowinski [a longtime activist focused on brain injury in football] wasnât sure it would. âI love Alan, but a player can die on the field from a brain injury and itâs not gonna change anything,â he said. âPeople will say, âItâs only happened once in the history of the NFL.â Theyâll compartmentalize.â ...
Predictions that youth football would collapse as parents kept their children off the field have also not come to pass. Youth football participation steadily decreased for more than a decade after news about CTE started to break, but it is on the rise again. Roughly a million boys still play high-school football â twice the number that play either basketball or soccer â and it remains possible in much of the country to sign up your 5-year old to be a linebacker. Most surveys of parents find that they understand there are risks but that they also donât want to keep their kids from playing. The enduring appeal of youth tackle football is often chalked up to the promise of a college scholarship, but for many parents and kids, football is simply the best of a limited number of options. Earlier this year, when student reporters at the University of Maryland visited the small town of Lexington, Mississippi, which is in the stateâs second-poorest county, one parent pointed out the football team remains popular in part because the entire county has no swimming pools, no soccer fields, no tennis courts, and no YMCAs. (Youth-football participation has gone down more dramatically in wealthier communities.) Tackle footballâs continued popularity among young people was, in this sense, a sign of a bigger failure. Last year, researchers found an advanced form of CTE in an 18-year-old high-school football player who killed himself. By early September of this season, three boys had died from brain injuries they suffered while playing high-school football.
Fans, it seems, have chosen to believe the NFL has largely done what it can. âThey addressed the majority of the ethical issues â the stuff that made them look bad â and now suddenly the story is âItâs just sad,ââ Nowinski said. âWhat people are missing is that football has gotten more ethical, but itâs not necessarily safer.â The point was that, because the NFL was no longer denying the problem, and every NFL player should now know the risk they are taking with their brains, a large part of the ethical burden on the league and its fans has been lifted. At the same time, while the number of reported concussions in the NFL has trended down over the past decade, they havenât gone away: In fact, the number has increased in each of the past three seasons, and last yearâs total of 219 is roughly equivalent to the total from 2018. (The total also doesnât include the blows to the head that go unnoticed.) Because doctors can only diagnose CTE postmortem, after cutting into someoneâs brain, we still have no way of knowing for sure whether CTE is developing in Tagovailoaâs brain or anyone elseâs. But researchers have now examined hundreds of brains of former players and found that the portion who had CTE has remained consistent at around 90 percent.
Even so, Nowinski didnât want to tell Tagovailoa what to do. âThe reality is that the NFL doesnât have to be safe,â Nowinski said. âIf the players arenât being lied to, they can choose to have a dangerous job.â The NFLâs chief medical officer, Allen Sills, said that the league would not get involved in Tagovailoaâs decision, citing âpatient autonomy and medical decision-making really matters.â Football had entered its era of personal responsibility....
#traumatic brain injury#suicide mention#sorry for sports on main#really though this is a labor issue; & once again sports are just a very high profile example of widespread labor discussions#the employers' framing here is 'do people have the right to have dangerous jobs?'#which is a brutal question to ask when you have any power to set the terms of employment. blue collar jobs all over. mining culture.#of course i am also thinking about ice hockey; smaller sport but no less dangerous & possibly much more so#in response to the speculation about whether onfield death would change things: bill masterton was dead 11 years before NHLers wore helmets#i think this whole discussion demonstrates a unique horror of brain injury which i struggle with; to some degree i both share & reject it#the whole american approach is always disclosure over protection though from consumer credit to workplace hazard. hate it#bolding is mine btw!

Itâs his 5th (four in the league, one that wasnât diagnosed until later, and one in college Iâm pretty sure) . Whatâs horrible is that the more you have the more prone to having them you become. He may have been fine last night if not for his concussion history.
Dang so the number keeps growing. Thatâs super concerning for his health

ILL FL NFL Breakdownđđđđđđđđđ
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are slated to be a presence in the AFC East. Besides being one of the few teams who could possibly sustain two #1 receivers (fantasy wise). Tua's health will of course always be a concern given the recent history of concussions but at his ADP (average draft position) he is a great value In the rounds he was taken, unless reaches for. Tua could be a fringe QB1. With thier yound gen z head coach implementing a similar style that brought him success in San Frann the RBs committee would be more likely. Moestart is great when healthy. Jeff Wilson is familiar with the system. Achain the rookie is one to keep an eye on. Dolphins also added on defense with Ramsey across from Howard - arguably the best duo of secondary in the league. Geseki is out so all the volume should funnel to Waddle & Tyreek. This was especially evident in week 1.
Atlanta Falcons
Desmond Ridder, is he the future or is he a bust? The season might be the indicator. The NFC South is open thanks to the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady retring for the NFL. The exciting new draft prospect RB Bijan Robinson showed a why he was the 1st RB off the board. What was surprising was the usage Tyler got particularly in the receiving end. It could be an easy in of Bijan OR perhaps a split carry backfield. Drake London was a receiver in the 3 to 6 rounds filling in as a key cog player on many teams. What was more concerning than the output was the lack of targets from the get go. ATL may be a run 1st offense leaving Pitts and Drake in the lower rank of options for the play calling which doesn't bode well for those who drafted them. Teams who invested in Pitts as a mid tier TE are especially angry. The Falcons defense are not that stout but the team could have enough juice to compete for that division with weak offenses with the other NFC South teams.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams were largely written off. Kupp injury woes had fantasy players skittish about drafting him despite being a target hog from Stafford who usually serves as a via low end QB back up on many teams bench. With news of Kupp out, some in the fantasy world thought Van Jefferson would step up but it was preseason darling Puka who shined in their season debut. Will the rookie be viable once Kupp returns? Will Kupp return? If you have to see a specialist for your hamstring it can't be good. He is this offense. TuTu Atwell has been a gadget player at best, not reliable week to week. Cam Akers was being passed up in drafts due to obvious reasons. Regardless of Akers clear volume opportunity, it was 2nd yr K. Williams that made the most of his snap share. Perhaps with Rams Defense they can be a bye plug n play. Questions about Aaron Donald's will to actually play (contemplated retirement after the superbowl) and loss of Ramsey, we'll have to see where they land in rank. TE Higbee might be the Sleeper late round flier or waiver add that has the most upside.
Cleveland Browns
No one should be surprised about the dominant Browns defense. Sure the off timing of Burrow and company pooped đŠ the bed, but Myless Garrett and friends have played this divisional matchup close in the past 5 years. They knew how to shut the Bengals out & get to Burrow. Chubb I fell has been disrespected as others were ranked higher than him in the draft. He has always produced consistently with only few injuries. Hunt is now gone from the team so the passing volume only boosts his value as a top tier RB. Ford is the back up but observing his week 1 work, on the offset, doesn't seem to be factored in the running game plans. Watson again hasn't played a long stretch of football in about 3 years so adjusting will take longer. The hope he can return to form from his Houston days are the crutch. He has skills that separate him physically from other QBs. He'll need to capitalize on those to justify where he was drafted on teams as a starter. His resurgence leads in the the Amari Coopers and People's Jones of the world. Njoku chemistry with Watson is what to watch.
Dallas Cowboys
Everything is bigger in Texas. The big D put a hurting on the G-men. The past few years with Dan Quinn as coordinator has shown Dallas steadily becoming one of the best (if not the best) defense in the league. Parsons, Diggs, this team is not slacking in defensive Stallworths. Questions abound about Daks place in the organization. The team is loaded and expectations are even higher. This may be common for đ¤ cowboy fans but this year is especially interesting. Take into account the 40-0 prime time win. The box score didn't match the fantasy output. Prescott didn't max out his line and newly acquired Cooks got injured. Pollard showed why the fantasy world were vouching for him to start. Jerry Jones and Zeek parted ways leaving that opportunity for Pollard to become the #1 RB. Gallup is not really a factor. They have a promising crop of new TEs with Dalton off to the other side of Texas. Kellen Moore the coordinator left for the Chargers. Mike McCarthy is now calling plays in addition to his head coaching duties. He too is on the hot seat. Let's see if he can replicate his Green Bay calling Days for this offense.
Detroit Lions
Lions hype train is real. The Lions have built upon thier first winning record season in a long time upsetting a division rival (costing them the playoffs after thier slim hopes were dashed right before the start of the game) running off Rodgers to the Jets. Lions beat the defending Super Bowl Champions Chiefs arguably an upset but smart betting hedge. The Lions are feisty. They have adopted the head coaches moxy and it shows. Goff is slightly more than serviceable. His stat line off the charts. AmonRa is a top tier WR. Gibbs the rookie has high hopes. Even with Montgomery from the Bears coming over and padding his stats, Gibbs is the future. It may be a 60/40 split but as the season progresses we may see a shift. Swift is out and this new RB duo is the immediate payoff. Marvin Jones is back with his OG team but was not a factor. Be on the lookout though. Since week 9 of last year the Lions have played zone defense. After being one of the historic worst - they have gradually become a better pass defense. With Hockenson traded mid season last year, the TE shares are up in the air.
New York Jets
Biggest hype of the off season came to a crashing halt. 4 plays in the first drive of NY great hope Rodgers...out for the season with an Achilles injury. Devastating đ
Hard knocks, Aaron Rodgers media narrative, the recent lackluster history of the Jets franchise, big QB move, front office drama, arguably one of the best recent drafting years by the GM of the Jets with thier defense (Quinen) and offense (Garrett Wilson), all the stars aligned but a comet came crashing through. Now Wilson's stock plummets. The defense should still be one of the( if not THE) top Defenses in the league. Any of the carry overs from Green to Green (Cobb & Lazard) will not be a factor. The team is being pressured to bring in a vet preferred over the irractic Zach Wilson. But who is out there? Breece Hall may be worked back in slow but he showed out. Those who invested in Cook may have felt let down in week 1 but hold steady. They paid him big money...he will be used.
New England Patriots
Patriots were slated to be an afterthought. They brought it against the eagles. Now they look competent? Well, pencil pavorati (Matt Patricia) is no longer calling the offense. WHY!! Why would Bill have a defensive coordinator call offense plays? A genius but also a wildly abstract choice (wasn't Bills first). Lets face it. A belichick led team is the worst to figure out. He cares about winning and adjusts on the fly. Or doesn't. Makes him a hall of fame coach but a point of contention in the fantasy community. Juju added....nothing. His days are long behind. Mac Jones showed improvement but how much can you bank on with this teams fluid scheme? Bourne might be the best WR they have even if Parker returns. Ramandre still should get the focal point but with Zeek there now, that takes volume. Goal line? Pass targets? We have to wait and see how things shake out. Defense is still viable. Henry is still the TE or is Mike Geiseki gonna factor? Are either getting looks or game planned in?
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens beat the Texans but boy did it look bad. Dobbins (as bad as I feel for the person) is useless. Injury prone isn't even the word to describe. OBJ addition and Duvernay or Bateman healthy, we should see something in the air yards for Lamar. A new coordinator and Andrews injury status should have shown some promise. Truly is was more of the same. Lamar steals run yards from the RBs. Hill stepped up but Melvin Gordon on the practice squad. Fournette and Hunt haven't signed yet. The Ravens, historically, have a revolving door of RBs who outplay the RBs who made the team or were already signed before the summer OTAs. Hopefully Lamar can repeat that one year he became MVP. Time will tell.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers defense football wise will donwhat they always do under Tomlin...get better and be more of a nuance. TJ Watt as an IDP is ideal. The preseason was kind to the Pickett Pickens duo but none of that materialized in week 1. In fact it was the opposite. Pickens almost regressed it seemed. Very concerned đ Dionte Johnson hurt doesn't help matters. Najee will have the majority of the snap counts so let's see if he can raise himself out of the mid tier RB 3 flex type tanking. Pat F is a TE that is a fringe TE2 that could produce.
Thank you for indulging me in my NFL team by team soap box. Let's check out the Sleeper League below and good luck to all in the ILL this year âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸

Summary: 1972: an unnamed historian publishes a series of firsthand letters, documents, and accounts writ by the most notorious family in Victorian London, the Phantomhives.
"A haunting, darkly devious collection of letters and notes written by a man history has marked as the 'villainous noble'...his demands are unnerving and his eloquence, chilling; but beneath this facade of enigmatic coolness lies a complex, contradictory figure who history itself seems fascinated with." - Frederick Taylor, The New York Times
"I can't think of a better representation of Victorian letter writing than 'The Phantomhive Archives'. It reads like a gothic novel and when you're done, you can't help but wonder what it would've been like to have tea served to you by Sebastian Michaelis all the while knowing he's probably assisted his master with murder." - John Carpenter, The Atlantic Monthly
"It's amazing that, after having read these letters, you learn that the Queen's Watchdog was almost a Byronic anti-hero...[with] an unrelentingly selfish streak that is never better represented than when he confesses his love to the Lady Elizabeth or interacts with his ever present butler, Sebastian." - Theodora Visitor, The Boston Globe
Haunting by chiiyo86
Spoilers for the manga.
Summary:On a night of fever, someone is knocking at the window of his bedroom.
Insufferable, Concussed Brat by BuruRaven
Summary:Â âYoung Master, are you feeling unwell?â, he asked, uttering each word slowly and carefully.
Ciel looked lost. He blinked sluggishly up at Sebastian, never completely opening his left eye and attempted a prematurely aborted upwards motion with his right arm.
âM-headâŚhuâŚnghâŚâ, he garbled, increasingly more distraught.
Sebastian had seen this odd behaviour before in humans with head wounds. It was mostly reversible, but they should perhaps retreat for tonight.
As Ciel made a weird face and vomited on himself and Sebastian both, the need to return to the house suddenly intensified.
Enjoy! â¤

For the quick drabble prompts: tua + defenestration
Look at me, changing it up! This one is about Diego! Someone stop me from writing a whole fifteen thousand words about Diego and Eudora. I donât have time for it, but I do have the same deep need to give Eudora good things as I do to give good things to Klaus and Dave. She deserves them!!
âŚ
Diego thought he might be dead.
One minute he had been throwing himself at a guy twice his size in a fourth floor apartment and the next minute he had been thrown. He didnât remember the fall. His mind had, blessedly, chosen the moment he crossed the threshold of the window to black out. His body remembered though, and every muscle and bone screamed at him in protest as he sat up and checked his head for blood.
There were lights flashing. He couldnât tell if they were inside or outside of his head.
âHey! Hey, you!â It was a familiar voice.
Diego groaned and pulled himself to his knees. Outside of his head then.
âNo, stay down.â
A hand hit his shoulder and he looked up to see Eudorâno, she hated when he called her that on dutyâDetective Patch standing over him. Her brow was furrowed and her lips were set in a thin line.Â
âYouâre a lucky son of a bitch,â she said.
âItâs good to see you too, detective.â He tried to stand up and she pushed harder on his shoulder to keep him down. âAre you gonna cuff me, or do you just like seeing me down here?â
Her lip quirked, âMaybe I do, a little, but no. It needs to look like Iâm explaining to you in excruciating detail how stupid you are and how stupidly lucky you are that the woman who called 911 identified you as the person who attacked her attacker instead of just some random asshole with knives who broke into her apartment for no reason.â
âYou know I never do anything without a reason, Detective.â
âPlease donât make me actually give you the list of reasons youâre stupid, Diego,â she said. âIt really is very long, and you already know most of it.â
âMost?â he asked, giving her what he hoped was more of a smile than a grimace. His face hurt as much as the rest of him and he wasnât sure he had complete control over it.
âIâve been keeping some for a rainy day,â she said. âGod, Diego, we have got to stop meeting like this.â
âYou wonât meet me any other way, and I miss your charming personality.â
âNo, I wonâtâ she said. âAnd we both know itâs not my charm you miss.â
âItâs a little of what I miss,â he said rolling his shoulders and stretching so he could brush her hip with his hand.
She released his shoulder and smacked him in the back of the head. âDo you need help up?â
âAs you can tell,â he said, planting his foot on the cement in front of him and grunting against the pain. He noticed suddenly that he and the cement were damp. Had it been raining when he went inside? Or had he been out longer than he thought? âIâm perfectly capable of standing on my own.â
He tried to push himself up, faltered and fell hard on his knee, let out a colorful string of curses, and then tried again. This time he managed to get himself mostly to his feet and he landed heavy against Eudoraâs side as he toppled. She grunted under his weight and pushed him off her.
When he turned to look at her the whole scene slid into focus finally. There were three patrol cars at the end of the alley, lights going. Four uniforms were milling around and studying what he assumed was his path down to the ground which included a broken fire escape railing and an awning with a hole in it.
Eudora crossed her arms and tilted her head. She was waiting to see what he would do next
She was pretty in any light, but the combination of the orange-sulfur lights of the alley and the blue-white-red flashing off the cars managed to make her look like she was made of stained glass: glowing from within, colorful, fragile, shot through with lead bars in spite of the rest. She was just a womanâno special powers, no maniacal father who made her train from the time she could walk, no inbred sense of superiority. She was fragile, and for that reason alone she could be the bravest person he knew. Â There were other reasons of course, and her fragility was not what made him love her. It was the way she worked against it at every turn, how she chose over and over to be better than those around her.
âDiego?â she asked, reaching for his face. Concern lurked at the edge of her voice. âDo you have a concussion?â
He couldnât believe she had ever chosen to accept him into her life, no matter how briefly, that she still chose every day not to write him off entirely as the asshole he was. It almost made him want to be a better man.
Then another realization hit him and, against his better judgment, Diego started to laugh, which was unfortunate because how much it fucking hurt.
âWhat the fuck is wrong with you?â she hissed. She thought a moment, then pulled her hand back and said, âNo, I donât want to know.â
âItâs, itâs de-,â he started, knowing he wouldnât be able to finish. âDe-defen-de.â He laughed harder, holding his hands against his ribs to try and keep them from moving too much.
âDefense?â she said. âThatâs what the woman told us.â
âNo, no. I canât say it. The window.â He pointed up.
Diego had never been able to say the word defenestration. Usually his stutter only manifested under pressure, and as such was a sensitive subject, but for this particular word there was a more involved and touch toughened history. They had all learned at eleven that for some reason, that word just would not work in his mouth no matter how much he visualized or practiced. He didnât figure heâd ever need it, not really. Not after Klaus and Ben had spent a full month ruthlessly mocking him over it by dropping it into conversations he was in. They had even created a List Of Ways To Kill Diego, which was just fourteen different forms of defenestration. It had been creative, but Mom found it and put an end to the whole thing.
When he could catch his breath he said, âIâm glad I didnât die.â
He was thinking he was glad he didnât die that way especially because, even though it had been more than a decade since all of that and theyâd lost Ben in the meantime, he was sure Klaus would remember and make sure that his cause of death was on his grave marker. Or rather, probably his grave marker would read: DIEGO HARGREEVES â D-DE-DE-DEFEN-SSS. Because Klaus was a fucking asshole.
Eudoraâs face softened. âIâm glad you didnât die too, you jerk.â
âWould you miss me?â he asked.
âI would consider it a real pleasure to be able to get to miss you,â she said. âBut apparently youâre the only one around here with any luck at all.â Â
(Send me a word + fandom/character and Iâll write you a quick thing.)

Week 7 Already!
Thursday Night Football
(4-2) Black Mambas @ Ultimate Savages (3-3)
Ultimate Savages and Black Mambas will be forced to start their backup Quarterbacks in a big Thursday Night battle.
Projections have these two twos tying.
Black Mambas defeated Ultimate Savages in their only match-up thus far in Week 7 of last season by 16.
History To Repeat?
(0-6) Balls Deep @ Yuba City Sultans (5-1)
Balls Deep has never lost six straight in franchise history until now. They have continued to suffer injuries, losing Logan Ryan now to I.R. - that is a total of six players on injured reserve for Balls Deep.
Yuba City Sultans had only started 5-1 once before, in 2016, when they lost Week 1 to LilShupeScoresBIGPoints like they did this season and then rallied off five straight to then lose in Week 7 to the worst team - will history repeat itself?
Yuba City Sultans leads the head-to-head series 1-0, defeating Balls Deep in Week 12 of the 2020 season by 93 points.
Looking To Maintain Perfection
(2-4) Hyrule Empire @ Straight Edge Society (4-2)
Straight Edge Society will look to maintain perfection over Hyrule Empire, as Straight Edge Society holds a 5-0 record all-time over Hyrule Empire.
These two teams have not played one another since the 2018 season in Week 7 when Straight Edge Society defeated Hyrule Empire by 7-points.
Hyrule Empire should have Running Back Johnathon Taylor back after being sidelined for two straight weeks.
Showdown in South Beach
(3-3) Evolution @ Hahn's Hitters (2-4) - Division Game
Evolution will have Tua Tagovailoa back after two weeks of being sidelined due to back-to-back concussions, while Hahn's Hitters may be without Russell Wilson, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. Evolution dealt Chase Claypool to Black Hole Son in exchange for Michael Gallup and Kareem Hunt.
This will be their first time facing off against one another in what should become a twice-a-year battle within the division and bragging rights for Miami.
Early projections have Hahn's Hitters pulling off the upset against Evolution.
New Kid On The Block Versus Struggling Veteran
(1-5) Rainelo Hawks @ Rice-A-Roni (5-1)
Rice-A-Roni reigns as the best team in the league after a tight victory over once-undefeated, LilShupeScoresBIGPoints last week. Rainelo Hawks defending Super Bowl Champions, continues to struggle, falling to 1-5.
Rice-A-Roni will be without some key players, including star Quarterback Josh Allen. Early Projections have Rainelo Hawks pulling off the surprising upset. As thoughts going into this game, Rainelo Hawks would have been favored.
Rainelo Hawks have acquired JuJu Smith-Schuster from The Busy Killers to help bolster their receiving core.
Do-Or-Die
(5-1) Black Hole Son @ VanillaGorillas (1-5)
VanillaGorillas come into Week 7 in a must-win scenario. In a division with three of the best teams in the league, VanillaGorillas must win this match-up against the top team in the Cascadia-Sunbelt division to keep their season alive. Black Hole Son continues to look impressive, pulling even further away in their division after moving to 3-0 within the division and 5-1 overall.
VanillaGorillas holds the record over Black Hole Son at 9-5, with Black Hole Son getting the win last season in Week 4 by 62.
Projections show Black Hole Son winning by the slightest of margins, 2-points. We'll see if the newly acquired receiver, Chase Claypool, will come into play.
Sunday Night Football
(5-1) LilShupeScoresBIGPoints @ Crocs (4-2) - Division Game
This will be their first time facing off against one another. Both teams are coming off difficult losses last week, and neither will want to lose two straight in a big division match-up with so much at stake.
Crocs can leapfrog into first place in the Northern-Midwest with a win and a loss by Straight Edge Society.
Ryan Tannehill will get the nod in place of Matthew Stafford for Crocs, who are projected to defeat LilShupeScoresBIGPoints by 9-points by early Vegas odds.
Monday Night Football
(2-4) The Canadian Cripplers @ The Busy Killers (2-4)
Old division rivalries meet up in a Monday Night clash of 2-4 teams. With both teams vying for a position, neither can afford to lose. These two teams have some of the more exciting games regardless of record.
The Busy Killers hold the record over The Canadian Cripplers at 7-6-1.
The Busy Killers defeated The Canadian Cripplers twice last season before moving into a new division this season. With the acquisitions of O.J. Howard and Donovan Wilson, The Busy Killers, hope that trading JuJu, who was finally coming on, doesn't bite them in the behind. While The Canadian Cripplers have been rumored to be looking for a Running Back through the trade market.

Tua Tagovailoaâs health could set off Giantsâ draft boldness
One player the Giants absolutely, positively will not take could hold the key to their 2020 NFL Draft strategy. That player will be in Indianapolis next week for the NFL Scouting Combine, will not be doing much of anything on the field and yet the Giants could benefit from every shred of positivity that player generates.
The more confident NFL decision-makers are that Tua Tagovailoa will be healthy for this coming season, the more enticing he becomes and the more likely a team out there is willing to trade a package of picks to the Giants to get him.
Now then, Dave Gettleman has presided over seven drafts as a general manager â five with the Panthers and two with the Giants â and has never traded down. Never. He selected 28 players with the Panthers and 16 in his two drafts with the Giants (plus one more in the supplemental draft). However: Gettlemanâs new head coach, Joe Judge, was shaken off the Bill Belichick tree in New England, and no one is more aggressive trading down in drafts than Belichick.
Nothing creates a trade-up frenzy as feverishly as the presence of fresh quarterback blood in the water. Joe Burrow of LSU is the presumptive No. 1 pick to the Bengals â as long as Burrow does not pull a John Elway or Eli Manning and insist he will not play in Cincinnati. Justin Herbert of Oregon was named MVP of the Senior Bowl and will be a high pick.
Then there is Tagovailoa. Remember when âTank for Tuaâ was all the rage and it was assumed the Dolphins were trying to lose on purpose to land the Alabama lefty? Tagovailoaâs NFL value was thrust into uncertainly when he suffered a severe hip dislocation and fracture Nov. 16 against Mississippi State.
Tua TagovailoaGetty Images
Reports state his three-month CT scan revealed his hip has healed. Tagovailoa will not participate in drills at the combine but will use the week in Indy to meet with teams and explain his physical progress. For many, many players, this flow of medical information is the most important single aspect of the combine.
âIâll be participating in the combine, but my main goal is not to win the 40, not to win the bench press, but to win my medical,â Tagovailoa recently told NFL Network.
Tagovailoa at Alabama also underwent surgeries on both ankles, broke his nose and suffered a concussion, and, along with the hip surgery, his injury history is the only alarm he needs to silence. As a quarterback prospect, he is everything the NFL is looking for.
If Tagovailoa can assuage the medical fears, teams will be willing to trade up to get him. The Redskins at No. 2 do not need a quarterback and the Lions at No. 3 and Giants at No. 4 are not in the quarterback market. The Dolphins (No. 5), Chargers (No. 6) and Panthers (No. 7) will be thinking quarterback and thereâs a chance the Jaguars (No. 9), Raiders (No. 12), Colts (No. 13) or Falcons (No. 16) could be as well. And what about the Patriots at No. 23? Maybe behind all the smoke of moving on from Tom Brady there is actually some fire and if so, it is highly unlikely Belichick is sold on Jarrett Stidham. Moving up 19 spots to the Giants would be difficult to pull off, though.
This could be the right time for Gettleman to trade down, as there is a chance the player the Giants ultimately covet at No. 4 (perhaps linebacker Isaiah Simmons or one of a handful of offensive tackles) is available a few picks later for them to grab.
The Dolphins own three first-round picks â 5, 18 and 26. The Raiders have Nos. 12 and 19. The Giants are not one player away from contending and this is a draft where the players taken from No. 4 to No. 12 could all be eye-of-the-beholder as far as value. Imagine if the Giants could trade down a few spots and still land an offensive tackle (Andrew Thomas, Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Willis or Tristan Wirfs), a Day 1 starting defensive player (Derrick Brown, A.J. Espensa, Javon Kinlaw or Grant Delpit) or as a trade bonus, a weapon for Daniel Jones such as Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb or Henry Ruggs III.
Gettleman values his picks but has never said he is philosophically opposed to trading down.
âIt kind of just never happened, I guess,ââ he once explained. âThere was nothing ever meaningful enough that would keep me from the player that we had who was there for us to take.ââ
All this hinges on teams salivating to get at Tua. The courting heats up next week in Indy.
