I am very enamoured by the unlikely idea of a sort of "personality reversal" to Bolin and Mako's extended families.

Like, Tu actually seems more aimilar to Mako than Bolin if you think about it. Aloof, sarcastic, distrustful and quite perceptive. We don't get much from Chow, but he seems pretty calm and level headed. Now, I'd say that Yin is the most similar to Bolin personalitywise, but she still isn't awfully dissimilar to Mako and she gwts along with him incredibly well. We can also remember that Yin says that Mako "takes after his grandfather" multiple times. (Though she was mainly referring to Mako's disastrous relationships with Asami and Korra)

I mean look at them Mako and Tu are basically making the same pose here lol

So, actually, it would be really funny if the Fire Nation side of Mako and Bolin's family, despite looking a lot like Mako were super bubbly and energetic like Bolin.

¿Como que “Aang no aprueba que ella luche por sus derechos en contra del patriarcado”?, ¿como no la apoyo cuando ocurrió lo de Pakku?, cuando literalmente Aang estaba a punto de rechazar la idea de entrenar con Pakku precisamente porque su cultura machista implicaba que su verdadera maestra: Katara, no podría aprender, e incluso yendo a escondidillas a enseñarle a Katara para no dejarla afuera porque él la respeta no sólo como su amiga sino como su primera guía. La única razón por la que Aang terminó estudiando con Pakku fue porque Katara se lo dijo, no porque el quisiera, lmao. Aang se veía claramente antipático ante la idea de entrenar con el hombre que rechazo a su amiga solo por ser una chica y solo se ve colaborando alegremente una vez que Katara le demuestra a Pakku su valía y habilidad luego de una lucha (lucha en la cual por cierto, Aang la apoyo en todo momento y estaba vitoreandole que ella podía ganarle).

La razón por la que Aang no aprueba las acciones de Katara en “los invasores del sur” no es porque él sienta que ella no tiene derecho a estar enojada con aquellos que asesinaron a su madre. Lo que Aang desaprueba es lo que implicaba su sed de venganza, Aang al igual que Katara sintió un profundo dolor al encontrar la pila de huesos de lo que alguna vez fue su gente, ambos son víctimas del genocidio y Aang entiende este sentimiento de perdida bastante bien. Cuando le reprochó a Katara no fue porque él creyera que “no tienes derecho a odiar al hombre que mató a tu madre” sino más bien un “ese suceso no debería tener el derecho de distorsionar tu brújula moral y vida”. Me sorprende como algunas personas hablan como si él asesinato fuera la única forma de darle una conclusión al odio de Katara, como si eso hubiese solucionado todo su dolor y desprecio (ignorando por completo las consecuencias mentales que acarrearían en Katara consumar dicho asesinato más tarde). La gente habla como si este acto de odio la hiciera sentir en paz hasta el final y como si el peso de dicha acción no le fuera a caer más tarde, Katara, la misma chica que resultó en un profundo desprecio y trauma por el sangre control, ella odia la privación de libertad y manipulación que supone el sangre control hasta el punto de que en TLOK hace todo lo que esta en su poder para que esta forma de control sea penada y castigada, es una violación contra la autonomía y vida misma, ya me dirás tu cómo la dejaría un asesinato en toda la regla tiempo después. La forma en la que Aang le aconseja es desde su propio punto de vista religioso, pero si de verdad hubiese estado en contra total de la voluntad de Katara entonces él nunca hubiese permitido que ella se llevara a Appa en primer lugar, recordando lo preciado que Appa es para Aang y a pesar de estar en desacuerdo con las intenciones asesinas de Katara, aun así decide cederselo. Aang no estaba en contra de que Katara buscará un cierre emocional ante la perdida de su madre, Aang estaba en contra de los métodos, lo que Aang despreciaba era la idea de que su querida amiga manchara su vida con una acción irreversible que más tarde podría lastimarla.

Y bueno, lo otro ya es sólo tratar a Aang como un niño estúpido xD, él SABÍA que Katara le estaba pidiendo colaborar con ella en un acto de eco-terrorismo, Aang sabía perfectamente lo que estaba haciendo cuando la ayudo a destruir la fábrica pero a la gente le encanta olvidar que el contexto de las situaciones importa y que Aang puede llegar a ser flexible incluso con las cosas que están en contra de sus valores. La fabrica que destruyeron suponía la continua opresión de una aldea, de la devastación del ecosistema de este mismo y también de que dicha gente siguiera muriendo de hambre, Aang no es un “no le quiero pegar a nadie porque los monjes me dijeron que eso esta mal y como no tengo criterio propio me voy a negar rotundamente a lastimar a cualquiera uwu 🥺”, Aang es un niño con pensamiento propio y reconoce la urgencia de las situaciones que enfrenta para saber cuando o no ser flexible con sus propias convicciones, si destruir esa fábrica implicaba la liberación de una población oprimida y esclavizada entonces lo haría y así lo hizo, si destruir esa fábrica implicaba tener que pelearse con aquellos que sometían a inocentes a un hambre y miseria inhumana entonces Aang lo haría y así lo hizo. No ayudo a Katara solo porque “jejeje, ella es muy bonita y yo soy muy tonto para saber las consecuencias de mis acciones o como para tener mis propias opiniones ✨” la ayudó porque él ya sabía que era necesario de hacer más allá de que los métodos parecieran correctos o no.

What I adore about the idea of Katara ending up with Zuko instead of Aang is that in Zuko she would have someone who would support her in her righteous anger. Had he been there when Katara challenged Pakku for her right to learn how fight, he would've backed her up. He would never have tried to tell Pakku that she didn't mean it. And he would've offered to help her dispose of his body if it came to that.

That's the energy that Katara needs. Someone who understands that she's not jumping into a fight for nothing. If she kills someone, she had a darned good reason.

Mako Appreciation Post

Mako is generally not appreciated for what he is and is kind of hated. So, I wanted to write this post to appreciate him and show how he is a great character and how much depth he has. I want to write why he is one of my favourite characters in the franchise.

First of all, let's start with his childhood. Mako's parents were killed in front of his eyes, when he was eight, by a firebender. Imagine seeing the murder of your own parents.

Being the elder brother, with no knowledge of his relatives, he was forced to take on adult responsibilities from that point on, depriving him of the majority of his childhood. He took on the parental role for Bolin from the age of eight. Let that sink in. This impacted Mako largely and he became stoic, brooding, aloof and indifferent.

He never allowed this to discourage him though - he did whatever was necessary in order for their survival. Even if it meant dipping his toes into shady criminal activities, Mako prioritized only making sure they'd be able to survive another night. He always protected his brother. Mako used to see it as his sole job to provide for him and keep him safe.

Partially due to Mako doing his best to shield Bolin from the true cruel nature of the world after their parents' death, Bolin's positive nature never left him. We can say it is because of Mako that Bolin is goofy and "likeable". He let Bolin be a child.

Mako is similar to Katara in that both have mothers killed by firebenders, a memento of a parent (Mako's father's scarf and Katara's mother's necklace), both also raised their brothers as a parent would do, a personality contradictory to that of their brothers, and both were love interests of the Avatar of their time.

Next, let's look at the romance part for which he is hated the most. The first thing to note is that he cared for both Asami and Korra, even when he was just friends with them. Also, he never made the first move. It was Korra (in season 1) and Asami (in season 2) who kissed him first. People often say that "Mako did this wrong thing, that wrong thing" but fail to recognise that although not being the sole one wrong he apologizes. He is very bad at relationships and Asami and his cousin, Tu best describe this-

Tu: “It seems like you're so afraid to disappoint anyone that you end up disappointing everyone.”

Asami: “Mako has never been the most "in touch with his feelings" guy.” (probably because of his rough childhood)

But Mako does care about them. Some examples are – he goes with Korra to fight Amon, he consoles Asami when she lost all her supplies, he is concerned when Suyin is taking out the poison from Korra’s body, etc.

The thing here is that most of his actions can be justified and he never did anything really horrible.

Although he is awkward at the beginning of season 3, he eventually gets over it and remains good friends with both Korra and Asami. He cares about them as a friend and we can see it throughout season 3 and 4. He does share a platonic relationship with them.

In short, Mako is a tries-to-be-good-but-not-so-good boyfriend but a great friend and brother.

Also, Mako is very committed to his job. Whether he was a cop, a detective or a bodyguard, he took his job seriously and worked hard.

Another remarkable thing about him is that how good firebender he is although not having any formal training in it. He is a quick-thinker and tactical.

We also see him grow emotionally when he gave his father’s scarf to his grandma understanding that perhaps she needed it more than him.

And now let’s talk about his best scene in the whole series – When he was ready to sacrifice himself in order to stop Kuvira and save the city. This was an act of selflessness.

His character growth in the series is not as big as Korra or Zuko (and it doesn’t have to be) but he does grow just like any other ATLA/TLOK character.

In the end, Mako is a kind person on the inside. He's devoted to the people that are close to him, and you can count on him in any situation.

I don't know how someone can hate him or call him unlikable.

I have a TLOK WIP called ‘politics’ and it’s literally about a new set of elections running in Republic City. Zhu-Li, as president implemented political reforms (for me this is giving the legislature more powers and imagining it as weak before. They’re the worlds first democracy it’s gonna be bad under Raiko.) this prompts her to run new elections but she’s probably not going to win.

There are new political parties forming against a backdrop of new drug hitting the streets, crime rates rising, the equalist movement restarting sort of, ‘Earth Empire nutters’ sending death threats to those who wrong them and some domestic terrorism by an unknown source. I think the title was going to be ‘Dreams in a broken city.” Tensions flare between ethnic groups (I guess this is the best term for them?) and between benders and non-benders.

I think what I came up with was a unicarmel legislature (I think I was going to call it the senate because y’know this is an American show) that had proportional representation of like maybe 100 MPs or something, with the head of the legislature elected by the parliament themselves. There would be a winner takes all presidential system who is head of state and government who works with civil servants and proposes legislation to his party. So people could vote for their favourite presidential candidate and a different party to represent them if they wanted to.

The Parties:

Action Party For Justice: used to call themselves the ‘action party of non-benders’ they are trying to distance themselves hard from any violent equalists and be respectable. Main concerns are with poverty and improving the visibility of nonbenders. I’d probably say they’d be considered left wing.

Center Party: Zhu-Li’s party. The middle ground. Catch-all Sorry. Generally isn’t here to rock the boat much and have a broad coalition of support.

National Party: centre-right, tough on crime party fronted by a buisness woman named Simi Tu. Their main concerns are with defeating crime, giving more money to the police and business.

The Spirit Protection Party: a green party who are mostly concerned with the environment and SPIRITS. Korra likes them, they have niche support though.

Empire and Earth Unity Party: a crackpock far-right nut job party for extreme Kuvira apologisers who know they have no chance of winning but want to maintain visibility as they’re convinced the Empire will rise again. Like to talk smack about anyone who they think betrayed Kuvira. Kuvira is in prison in this story and she thinks they’re a bit much.

Korra is the main character and only POV and is just exasperated by the city tearing itself apart from the inside and feels like she can’t do anything to stop it. Asami is stressed by the Equalists and trying to navigate non-bender politics, Bolin is getting deathreats from the nutters and Mako is stressed with work and can’t hold down a girlfriend who I eventually realised I could give a sublplot to hooray

It is just my sort of shit. I love thinking about the politics of the world, especially governmental systems. It’s kind of dull and it fits my niche appeal very well.

Por lo que yo supongo que un fandom sea grande y popular depende de dos cosas: la calidad del producto y un público leal. Creo que la mayoría de los fans leales miraron Atla o LoK cuando fuimos pre-adolescentes, y como el Worldbuilding y los personajes son memorables pos nos quedamos. Más o menos lo que también pasó con Harry Potter. Había menos buen entretenimiento antes así que supongo que los fandoms eran más grandes.

Sea como sea, pos ya han pasado como 15 años así que no creo que el fandom se vaya a hacer más pequeño, jaja. Feliz año!

First we have this dude who I always say “isempty”, cause he’s very fair skinned and blond, so no melanin, and he’s 0-, sono blood proteins. He’s the funniest guy I’ve ever met and I love him as if hewere my brother. He’s the only person (as far as I know) I can be with for morethan 24h without needing a social break.

Then we have this sweet, pure, sassy human being with whom I have thedeepest and also silliest conversations. We’ve talked practically every daysince we met and my face always lights up when I see a message from her. Oursnapchat streak is 186 y’aalll. Her hair is so long and beautiful, just likeher. She’s the bravest and most encouraging person I know and I love her so, somuch that I can’t believe how lucky I was to meet her.

Next is my twin from the other side of the world. A beautiful mind in abeautiful body. A truly amazing writer. A Disney lover, Hawkeye Piercereincarnated. We also talk almost every day and her imagination always leavesme speechless. I love her wittiness and her dog tags. When we’re notencouraging each other we’re plotting our revenge on writers. She was my firsttumblr friend and I love her very much.

Then there’s my 2 geek uni friends, ride or die gals. We’ve gone throughthe 2 first years of Medicine together and we’re always there for each other.Whenever we try and study we end up talking about fandoms. I laugh so much withthem. I love them.

So, Tu//rf Wars is coming out, and it’s hard to hide my excitement. 

Kya talking to the girls about her own experiences? Confirmation of Avatar Kyoshi being bisexual? Finding out the Air Nomads were so free and open to all love? Mako being knocked out of his seat when he finds out his two exes are now dating, but he’s still supportive of them, along with everyone else? And all of this is presented in a way where it doesn’t feel political at all, but it’s just natural and wholesome (unlike a certain comic that shall not be named)? Holy shit, sign me right the fuck up.

But … it’s hard for me to truly back up the release of Tu//rf Wars. Because, as much as I love Korr@sami in concept, it fell so flat in the show. They were on the right track for development in seasons 3 and 4. But … when it came time to wrap everything up, it fell short. It was too fast. Korra and Asami were still very much just … friends.

I’m not going to deny the romantic implications of the final scene, where they gazed into each others eyes, holding hands. That’s just dumb. But, it was so … vague.

And the way Bryke paraded their “success” on Tumblr as champion allies to all queer people out there just felt so wrong. “Oh, we were planning this aaaall along, you dummies who didn’t catch it are just homophobes.” Really? I felt like my community was being taken advantage of for the sake of boosted ratings. (It’s funny, because I’ve expressed my feelings over this before, and I’ve been spoken over by other people of the community. “Well, if we like the representation, why can’t you?” Maybe they didn’t know I was a lesbian, but … I d'know, it was obvious since I clearly stated it in the post they responded to.)

I guess what this all boils down to is, I’m conflicted. I want to support Turf Wars, but because of how Korr@sami was played in TLOK, I feel so apprehensive. Bryke has delivered me both the representation I dread, and have been wanting.
