Lucky ones - Part 7
[Part 6 is here.]
Tumblr media
Several days ago.
“Master Shaw.  I understand that you have a problem that you’re hoping I can solve for you?”
For some reason, her robes felt heavier than usual as she pushed back her hood, letting red hair cascade free to fall across her shoulders.  Shaw glanced at her, then murmured something to the SI:7 agent at his side.  The agent nodded and slipped past her and out the door.
The lock clicked.  She crossed her arms.
“Was that necessary?” she asked.
“I don’t want to be interrupted,” Stormwind’s spymaster said, dropping heavily into a wood and leather folding chair.  Everything about the room’s furnishings screamed that this arrangement was temporary, that it was meant to be packed up and loaded onto a ship at a moment’s notice.  The building itself was an old warehouse, long fallen from use since the collapse of a few mercantile companies in the wake of the death of Theramore, now nearly a decade ago.  That the spymaster had set up shop here, near the docks, suggested that matters were just as serious as she’d started to suspect they were the night before when word had finally come of what they’d feared.
Shaw waved a hand toward another camp chair like the one he’d settled in.  “Have a seat if you’d like.”
“Will this take long enough to warrant that?”  She crossed to the offered chair anyway, smoothing her robes as she sat.  The emblems of the Argent Crusade and the Kirin Tor were embroidered on the breast, two points of a triangle where the last, on the bottom, was the emblem of the old Retribution—her unit of Alliance irregulars, the one all but wiped out when Theramore died.  They’d tried to reactivate them since but never succeeded.
And yet, here she was, settling into a chair across from Mathias Shaw who was either about to make a clandestine case for the same or appeal to her as a former officer of the Alliance in the hopes that she’d help.
Quin had told her what she’d managed to learn from the SI:7 agent that had been waiting to escort her here.  The idea had merit and left her wondering if Shaw had been paying a hell of a lot more attention whenever a mage was around than anyone had ever realized or if he’d consulted someone on the matter.  The way she saw it, there were equal odds for both.  Shaw watched as she settled, leaned back in her chair.  Jude Auroran met his gaze with a steady one of her own.
“So.”
He took a breath.  “Do you prefer Commander or Viscountess these days?”
“Commander is fine,” she said.  “It’s the title that matters in our current scenario, isn’t it?”
He hitched one shoulder in a slight shrug, canting his head momentarily to one side.  “Maybe.  Maybe not.  That depends on how you decide to look at it.”
“Are you appealing to me as the Viscountess Greymantle, then?  Because I’m not sure how far that will get you.  I know that you didn’t call me here to talk about my father or my family.  Did you?  Because if you did, that will take us into a very long conversation about how you hid the fact that my sister didn’t die from me and mine for several years while SI:7 used her for every deep cover operation it could.”
His brows lifted for a moment and he shifted in his chair to sit forward slightly.  “Your point is taken.”
“Good.”  She crossed her arms.  “Quin said this is about potentially being able to open a portal.  What’s the ask?”
“Would I be way off-base to assume that your family had some kind of anchor at your residence in Dalaran?  One that you used to make it easier to portal in and out?”
She watched him for a few seconds, then shrugged.  “You wouldn’t be.  Go on.”
“Would it still work?”
A chill crept through her.  “Would what still work?”
“Do you think you could still hone in on the anchor?  Open a portal to wherever it is now?”
She stared at him for a few seconds, letting the silence linger as she weighed her response.  “Probably.  Do I need to lay out all the reasons that could be incredibly hazardous given what the reports are saying?”
“You mean the fact that the anchor could have been vaporized or possibly be at the bottom of the sea.”
Jude nodded slowly.  “Those are distinct possibilities.”
Shaw exhaled, leaning forward with elbows against his knees.  “I had.  Clearly.  But would you know that before you opened the portal?”
“Maybe, maybe not,” she admitted.  “Depends on how we go about it.  If it’s been vaporized, obviously we won’t be able to locate it.  If it’s at the bottom of the sea, well.  That’s a different can of worms.”
“But if it’s not?  If it’s neither of those things?”
“Then it should be doable,” she said.  “To open it.  I’ll need a few mana stones so I can hold it open long enough for my forces to get through.”
Both of his brows went up.  “Your forces?”
“Shaw.  You don’t get to ask me to do this without it being my people going through and me with them.”  She held his gaze steadily, expression growing grim.  “But you’re not a fool.  You already knew that.  What’s the other part of the ask?”
“You already know what it is.”
She nodded slowly.  “And if I’m unwilling to bend knee to the High Exarch?  What then?”
Shaw paused, studying her for a few moments.  “Who would you answer to, then?”
“Master Shaw.  This isn’t our first dance and I sincerely doubt that it will be our last.  Who would I bend knee to?”
Her regarded her a few moments more, then leaned back in his chair.  “And if I can find a way to make that happen?  Somehow?”
“Then you’ll have us, such as we are, under all the old rules.  Assuming that’s acceptable.”
“What do you think?”
“I think you need us, Mathias,” she said, standing.  “I’ll figure out if there are any surviving anchors I can lock a portal onto.  Send a messenger if you’re able to make the arrangements.  You’ve got five hours before my people are on a boat under the Crusade’s banner.”
“Something tells me that’s a banner you’ll fly regardless of the arrangements made.”
She smirked.  “That’s because you’re a very astute spymaster.”
“Thank you for noticing.”  He stood and moved to unlock the door with a small key from the cuff of his sleeve.  She drifted behind him, waiting as he unlocked the door, his hand on the knob as he caught her gaze one more time.  “You are allowed to say no, Commander.  I’m not an idiot.  I know the price you and your people have paid over the years.”
“Someone just destroyed a place we called home for a very long time in many different ways, Master Shaw,” she said quietly.  “In this world, in this life, the paying never stops.  I’ll talk to the rest, but I imagine whether you can make it happen or not, we’ll still do it—just not under the official banner the Alliance would probably prefer.  Send the messenger to tell me either way.  I’d like to know which way the wind is blowing.”
He nodded and opened the door.  “Thank you, Commander.  For your time and discretion.”
“The pleasure was mine, Master Shaw.  I look forward to hearing from you.”
She walked out of the warehouse with her head held high, ignoring the looks and whispers that she caught from the corner of her eye as she made her way back to the docks, to the others.  Whatever happened, whatever word Shaw sent, if she could find an anchor, they’d go.  Damn the man, though, he’d known that already.
They’d played each other, but she had the feeling that somehow, he’d gotten the better end of the deal.

lots of respect for ppl who don't post/talk abt certain oc things due to not wanting to spoil their own stuff, however i will not be doing that. by the time any of this stuff is finished it'll probably be different anyways
#i have this thing where i simultaneously cannot ever find the words to articulate my oc stuff and the inability to shut up about it#who the fuck knows if i'll actually finish it. i mean i'd love to. i WANT to but these are (for now) passion projects and i can't devote#myself to them full time so! i'll hand over the details#nothing wrong with not wanting to spoil things either i get it. i jsut talk a lot. esp if i'm excited abt smthin#actually now that i think abt it there are some ttw things i keep close to my chest#partially for spoiler things but also the canon of the story is so wildly different from what it has been that it is the one case where i#don't want to introduce something cool and neat only to have it scrapped later bc this blog is evidence that i have done that. many times#and thinking abt storytelling the way i imagine honeybee being told is nonlinear so at times it necessitates me 'spoiling' things from#p1 and p2 for instance to explain how they got to where they are in p3#i'm thinking a bit more and with ttw being horror i think the next time i get around to taking a solid jab at it i will actually be more#cagey about certain things. esp in regards to sanguine as a whole#but it's underbaked in the middle rn so. shrugs#i still also don't really mind spoilers in general so i don't give much of a shit abt spoiling my own stuff yknow?#good stories are good regardless of spoilers and my intention is to make good stories. not that i can be the one to judge that tho#but i like what i make and that's the really matters yeeeeeeeehaaaawwwwwww#rambles

TTW UPDATES
So, I know it's been a while since I've updated Trees That Wheep. 4 months is a long time in between chapters (for me, anyway), and I thought to make up for how slow things have gotten I reveal a bit of a spoiler (it's under the cut). I hope this helps all of you out here who have been invested in this series over the last few years (and helps explain why I did the rewrite late last year). I'll have a small author's note at the end of this, so please scroll down there to read that!
Tumblr media
“For thousands of years the people of Nantgarth lived in peace. The hybrids of Reika had been friends of all, the dragons of Lustra had been nothing but kind if not reserved like the Quietus they lived amongst, and the shapeshifters of Korika had been trusted allies. The humans of Sarka had stayed to themselves. The elves had been kind, warm, and inviting. Everything had been perfectly harmonious.
However, that all changed when Erdenay, the ruler of the Elves, died in his sleep after ruling for over four thousand years. Desperate for a new leader and looking for hope, the elves were taken with a fair-haired woman who claimed to know how to make an elf live forever. That was how Aladia came into power and when troubles started."
Book One: Trees That Wheep Pairing: Jimin x Reader Summary: Within the four realms of Lustra lay the Bangtan forest home to the Foxglove pack of the north and known as the “land of magic.” It is also home to the Bridd, a powerful witch from a cursed bloodline who is one of the sacred guardians of the forest. Y/N is the newest Bridd, a young girl who was given her position too early. Now a woman, Y/N is revered amongst the wolves as the most powerful witch they had ever known of all, but hiding under the surface is a woman who has to battle between her duty and her heart.
Book Two: River from the Sky Pairing: Namjoon x Reader Summary: With the threat of Etelin growing stronger with each passing day, the Foxglove pack is growing weaker and weaker. That's when a small group of fox shifters come to the wolves' aid in exchange for a piece of land in Bangtan when the war is over. When Taehyung leaves the pack in Namjoon's hands while he leaves to aid their cousins in Viridi Gramine, tempers flare when the know-it-all wolf and the fiercely independent fox leader need to work together in order to keep their people safe. Coming soon
Book Three: Waltzing in the Ashes Pairing: Yoongi x Reader Summary: Taken as a prisoner of war, the youngest Alconian Princess finds friendship with a blind man who is set on freeing them both. With her feelings growing and a fiancé waiting for her back home, Y/N faces the harsh realities of war that she had only ever heard about. Coming soon.
Book Four: All Things Devour Pairing: Jungkook x Reader The only way to get to the Elven Queen is going to the great city or Kasia, Etelin’s Capital. With new friends and greater enemies, the people of Lustra had long since thrown caution to the wind. When the Bangtan pack stages a coo to go at the elf queen herself, Jungkook meets an elf that changes his life. Fighting to stay alive in the famished towns and relying on the rebels on the mainland, the final dance has started, and no one knows who will make it out alive. Coming soon.
Book Five: Brave New World Pairing: Seokjin x Reader Life after war seems impossible, and Jin had felt the grief of war more than most. His trip to Sarka was his last task before stepping down as Lustra's peacemaker. While there he meets a quiet blacksmith who can wield a sword better than anyone he has ever seen. Their budding friendship makes Jin feel more alive than he has in years, but he can't stay in human territories for forever. Coming soon.

AHHHH! So, it's official. I've already started mapping out a complete, five book series for this little world of mine. I have no clue how long this will take me, but I'm super excited to share my plans with all of you. I am working on Trees That Wheep, but I did say in my 2024 plans that I wanted to give myself time to focus on other projects as well.
TTW will return this summer!

So i love everything you write and honestly you really outdid yourself in this new chapter.
SPOILER WARNING FOR CHILD OF RAGE CHAPTER 91 of TTW
Honestly I loved how we got to see deeper in Lizs character showing that in order to do good she ends up commiting attrocities just to protect people like trying to protect children from bad parents like junkies, abusers and strict religious people but doing so in damaging ways like tainting the recovery of the mother who got out of rehab just so her daughter could stay with her aunt, basically aiding in the murder of a drug addict mom by telling the pimp about her location and basically killing that gay boy's christian mom by not letting her get her medication. Oh and how she treated that teacher.
Liz does have good intentions but is also so hurt by her past that she seeks pleasure in hurting those who deserve punishment by harming those around them reminding her about Barbara.
And I also loved how you wrote her trauma; it's raw and not pretty and you can't help but feel bad for her and also understand where she's coming from with her current actions, although wrong. Her grandmother instead of loving her as part of the family saw her as a mistake and made sure little Liz knew and felt like it by physically and mentally abusing her to the point she developed this feeling of not being important in peoples lives if she died, cemented by her mother not doing anything to stop her grandmother and Liz craving that feeling of power over people cause that way she cant be hurt ever again. However, this is also sentencing her to Hell and while yeah it may not look bad, it is cause people down there are suffering in one way or another which is why Marty doesn't want her to end up there and is trying to protect her like any father would do for his child.
And another thing is how in retrospective no one from the Carter family (save for Barbara) can't be blamed for how they acted to the point of being absolute bad guys. Like yeah Alice should have done something to stop Barbara but at the time, she couldn't as everyone around her shunned her and Liz and even if she outed her mother for being a bitch it couldn't have worked cause she couldn't find anything to use against Barbara without retribution as Barbara's house was the only place she could go and due to how Barbara presented herself as a good person, no one would have believed her and there was a chance that if she showed them Liz's scars, Barbara could have spun the truth and made Alice look like the abusive one. But once Barbara was gone,Alice did everything she could to make sure Liz and her had a good life. Besides,Liz deep down doesn't hate her mom otherwise she wouldn't have been so affected by her dying from cancer.
And Marty did what he did withouth thinking and once he realized what hed done to Liz he regretted it and never got the chance to apologize. But he's trying to make up for by alwaystrying to protect her from Hell's evils like IMP, Rapists, her enemies and Overlords.
And Liz,although wrong, cant really blame her once you understand her POV and letting go of trauma isn't easy and in cases like contacting Vox it's not like she couldn't as who knows what Vox would have done to her and her friends if she didn't accept his number and he did his part in protecting her the best he could against Val and Liz was forced to have tea with Vox and Alastor and spill the truth about Barbara's death. Plus in cases like Angel Dust and the Candy landers, although they did wrong, the difference is that they're already paying for their past actions and want to redeem themselves. They've been punished enough in Liz's eyes. And she's a little right in calling him out for saying she should move on from the trauma Barbara left her and not wanting to see him after that confession but at the same time she's wrong cause just like her wasn't able to avoid after what he did; the choice to go to Barbara's was Alice's and Marty couldn't have prevented that and neither his daughter from being bullied after his death and she needs to recover from the anger and trauma cause all of that is gonna end up bad for her in the future.
What both of them need right now is to stay away from eachother and rethink stuff in a more calm enviroment. Really excited for the next part!!!!
Terrible things were done from both sides, but neither are truly evil. Marty has lived his life (and unlife) filled with guilt and remorse, while Liz has lived without guilt.
There's still a lot they need to talk out with each other and come to an understanding. Liz needs to stop letting her hate and fear rule her life, but it's a cycle that's very difficult to break.

Dragon Lord x gn! Reader
A/n: It’s been at least 6 years since I’ve written fanfiction. So I’m pretty rusty and the grammar might not be great. But I hope you guys enjoy!(Please let me know if I got something wrong!)
Tw: fluff, slight cursing, injury, slight spoilers if you haven’t finished the main story.
Word count: 1817
This journey has been hell, especially when Tina decided to GET RID OF THE FUCKING OCEAN. Now I have to walk instead; Why the hell couldn’t we keep the ocean? It would have made things easier but it’s Tina. What can you expect? Hearing those three are something else, but at least they’re entertaining. Someone would beg to differ though.
As I was walking along the bottom of the Nocean, I went a bit off road to just sit down and take a breather. But as I was enjoying my peace and quiet time, the Dragon Lord wanted to ruin that. “You finally taking a break, Fatemaker? I’m surprised, since you seem to like playing this role so much.” He suddenly said out of nowhere. Well, goodbye sweet silence. “So what? Everyone needs a break here and there. Especially when I’m on a quest to save the world from you.” I responded. “Save the world from me? I am honored, Fatemaker.” He joked. “Sure you are, horns.” I said in a sarcastic voice. “Horns? Who are you calling horns?!” He yells in a ‘How dare you’ way. “Who do you think?” “My name is not Horns, it’s Dragon Lord.” “Ok, but I like horns.” I reply and he went quiet.
For a moment, I thought I offended him and thought he was gonna send some enemies my way. I was about to apologize but he spoke first, “Whatever, call me what you want. Just don’t say it in front of people.” He finally responded back. Relieved, I smiled and nodded. “Alright, Horn!” I said happily and got up to set up camp. We continue to have a small conversation while I set up camp and after I was done. I took a well deserved sleep.
*Time-skip*
‘This is bad!’ I thought in a panic. I’ve had many battles but this one is becoming a bit too much for me. Skeletons, seawargs and coiled all around me. Too many enemies at once. How am I gonna make this?
As I swing my weapon to the nearest enemy to at least push it back from me, a skeleton suddenly grabbed my left arm. As I turn my focus to the skeleton, a seawarg appears from behind me. How did I not notice this big bastard?! Before I had anytime to react, the seawarg slashed my right side with its sharp claws. I scream out in pain and fall on my butt. The skeleton that’s still holding my arm was about to strike again, but I was quicker this time. I block his attack and was able to finish him off with a final swing. The seawarg was about to attack again, but I slice him from below to above. Catching the seawarg off guard and knocking it to its side. I rush to cover as I hold my side, trying to stop the blood as mush as I can. But the pain was so excruciating that it made it more difficult to put pressure on it. I then hear more enemies approaching me. ‘I won’t survive if I stay and fight with this injury. I have to escape!” I thought in a panic as I looked around for an escape route. I found one and I made a dash for it. I was able to escape the area and make pretty good distance from them. Unfortunately, the adrenaline was slowly leaving me. I was becoming extremely tired and there was more blood coming out of my injury. I sat down, panting from sheer exhaustion.
‘I can barely move and I’m so tired. I have to take care of this injury, if I don’t, I’ll die in my sleep from blood loss.’ I thought, but I couldn’t move my hands anymore. I just sat there, holding my right side. Then I heard a voice. “Fatemaker…are you ok?” Asked the Dragon Lord in a concerned voice, which surprised me but I was more focused on staying awake. “I’m…fine. Just a little scratch…no worries.” I assured him while panting slightly. “Oh, yeah, sure. Just a little scratch. Definitely not a giant claw injury that’s the size of your head that’s full of blood!!” He said in a very sarcastic tone, but there was a hint of worry in his voice that I caught. “Horns, please, don’t yell right now.” I cried, hoping that he would not yell anymore. “Sorry, but that is not just a simple scratch.” he apologized, “You need to bandage that quickly before it get infected or you’ll die of blood loss.” He stated.
Why is he so worried about me?
“Why do you care? You’re my enemy. I thought you were supposed to hate me and laugh when I get heavily injured.” I snapped at him. “Why are you worried about me?” I said in a much softer tone than I did before. He stayed quiet after that. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have snapped at you. It’s just this damn wound is-“ before I could finish my sentence, I suddenly felt lightheaded. I heard movement in front of me, like something was swerving, then it stopped. I wanted to look up but my eyelids were so heavy that I could barely keep them open. Then I heard footsteps coming towards me. Panic was setting in, someone found me. Are they an enemy or ally? I try to at least get up but all I can do is begin to fall on my side. As I was about to fall to the floor, an arm suddenly grabbed me before I fell. Whoever showed up saved me from further damage. The stranger sat me back down as I was before and I felt…safe. The second that feeling of relief hit me I was out like a light.
I woke up with a nice breeze on my face. I could feel the warmth of the sun around me, but not on my skin. Something was shading me from the Sun. I slowly open my eyes, I look around to see where I was. I remember what happened before I passed out. Fighting, bad injury, shelter, foot steps, arms and passing out.
.
.
.
Wait
.
.
.
As I fully remember what happened, I now feel an arm that is wrapped around me. I look to right and see the last person I thought I would see next to me like this.
Dragon Lord
Right next to me…asleep.
My eyes widen in shock to see him here. Shouldn’t he be at his pyramid? Why is he here? Wait…why is his arm around me?! But not only that, his wing was around me as well!
I look down to see my right side bandaged up. Same with some other minor wounds around me. Did he do this? Why did he help me? I was gonna loose my mind if I kept asking questions like this. So instead, I gently nudged him to wake him up. ‘Holy shit, he’s tall.’ I though in amazement.
He finally wakes up after I nudged him a couple of times. He opened his eyes and looked around for a bit until his eyes landed on me. It took him a second to register that it’s me and his eyes widen in shock. We both stayed there, staring at each other. The shock leaves my body and the flood of questions barge in. But I try to keep my cool and decided to ask only a few. “Did you patch me up?” I stupidly asked, who else would it be? But I needed to make sure. It took him a couple of seconds to respond since he still a bit stunned. “Uh…yes. I bandaged your wound.” He replied. I don’t know why, but relief spread throughout my body. He looked down to his arm still wrapped around me and he instantly pulled away. I frowned a bit but I quickly put on a smile. “Well, thank you. I would’ve died if you didn’t.” I beamed, “But, if you don’t mind me asking, why did you?” I asked. That question stunned him a bit. “I…don’t know,” he said looking down to the ground, “When I saw you in so much pain. Something in me was trying to reach out to you.” He finished. I was so…I don’t even think the words shocked or stunned even compare to what I’m feeling right now. He…genuinely wanted to help me? “I couldn’t just let you die there. Even thought you would’ve most likely come back, I still had this strong feeling to save you.” He added with so much honesty in his voice. I couldn’t believe it. I smile as my face softened, “Thank you for saving me, Horns.”
He looked at me in surprise and also a bit of annoyance. “You’re…welcome.” I gave him a bright smile and sat closer to him. He was stunned but slowly put his arm and wing around me once again. We stayed there in comfortable silence for a while until I spoke first.
“You know Horns, I never hated you. I actually was really interested. Yeah I was kinda mad that you killed Butt Stallion, but I was still happy that you stayed and talked with me. You’re really funny and interesting to talk to.” I confessed. “You’re weird.” “Not as much as you.” I snapped back and he laughed. “I don’t hate you either. Actually, I’ve been trying to save everyone from Tina. Even you.” He confessed. “Save us from Tina? Why?” I mean, I could understand why. But it can’t be that bad, right? “It’s best I don’t tell you right now. But I will soon. I don’t want to ruin this.” I raise an eyebrow. “Ruin what?” I asked curiously and he looked away. It took me a second to realize what he was talking about.
He didn’t want to ruin this moment with me.
But does he mean this as a peaceful moment or more? I decided to test it. I waited for the right moment to strike. When I thought the moment was right, I leaned up and gave him a soft, long kiss on the cheek. He froze at my action. I pull away and look at him. Once he snapped out of it, he looked down, bashful. “Can you do that again?” I’ve never imagine I would hear him say that so shyly!
I smile brightly and nod. “Of course, Horns!” I wrap my arms around his neck and give him lots of kisses. He pulls me closer to him and I finally get my answer. I give him one final kiss next to his lips. I sit on his lap and lean on him. He holds me close to him, so gentle and caring. While being careful of my wound. I was gonna fall asleep until, “You need to come up with a better nickname.” He said while smirking as I laughed.

SPOILERS FOR 90TH CHAPTER OF TTW!!
In Liz's defence, although her actions are horrible, the guy wasn't much of a saint, like he didn't need to make fun of the situation of the Trial's results and he was lying to the woman he loved. He defenitly deserved some punishment but yeah not something as extreme as what happened to him
Liz tends to go overboard when it comes to 'punishing' others. Especially those she felt were in the wrong.
