It is my firm belief that Hieronymus/Lord Chamberlain has been the single most important father figur in Rupert's life. This man watched Rupert grow up and understood along the way that they were similar. And I believe that despite the stress of working under Queen Lavinia (Cause as much as we love our queen, it was a really toxic work environment), he bared it and continued serving the royal family anyway.

He went through all that just so Rupert would have someone beside him who understood what he was going through. That one day the prince would have to make a choice like Hieronymus did all those years ago. Cause he knew about the prophecy and he knew that Rupert could not face whatever challenges the forest might have for the prince if he wasn't true to himself.

And I can only imagine what immense joy he must have felt to know that after 18 years, Rupert finally made his choice and stayed true to himself by marrying the love of his life despite what the world threw against him. That Rupert had the courage to love, changing the world they lived in forever.

What a good dad!

Okay, nobody is talking enough about Rupert and Chamberlain’s father-son relationship??? Like, I’ll be honest, that’s the moment that had me actually crying. Yes, Rupert thinking he lost Amir was really upsetting, and The Light (I think that’s the song name) was BEAUTIFUL, but, like... Chamberlain cares for Rupert to the point of seeing him as a SON, always supporting and being there for him - not to mention how BEAUTIFUL his song was.

3. Chamberlain is pretending to be older than he is because when he applied for a his job he lied about his age and now he has to keep up the rouse that he’s like ten years older than he says he is. One day the Queen asks how old he is and he panics and says “102” and she just believes he’s lived that long. Nobody can ever know.

very specific fic idea where as Chamberlain and Barrabas’s relationship gets more serious Barrabas tries to go for a “cool step-dad” relationship with Rupert because of like, the father/son relationship he saw with Rupert and Chamberlain but the only issue is that Barrabas has absolutely no clue how to fit that vibe especially at the stage of life Rupert is in, which is how they end up in the middle of the lake sitting in silence as they both attempt to fish (neither of them have fished before).

There’s this whole big cute message about letting people into your life and the ability to change into a better person and at one point the canoe gets overturned, but it definetly ends with both of them realizing neither of them wants to fish and they ditch the idea to go see a musical, something they both enjoy.

Oh and the whole time the western king is rolling in his grave because fuck that guy

Okay, new hc, Barabbas and Chamberlain actually are around the same age, mid fifties or so, but Barabbas looks younger because of his skin care routine and Chamberlain looks older because of the constant stress he was under working for Lavinia.

When Despair approaches-

This one was painful to do. Just hearing the absolute pain in their last moments made me tear up a bit.

It's no wonder I love these characters so much. Their insecurities are very real ( Well except the last unicorn of course. But if unicorns did exist, I'd feel the same despair) and relatable to an extent.
