Tsum-Tsums Design Observations

So I looked through the Tsums fandom page for the tsum mobile game. I did this as I wanted to look at all the different type of tsums to see what the general rules are for how tsums look.

There does seem to be some rough guidelines, some ignored for stylistic choice. Some of the rules that sometimes aren't followed, I can't really tell why. Perhaps it's just the artist behind the design.

Like one common rule seems to be that eyes are just dots. The exception is sometimes stylistic like when it's a major part of the character's design like Pleakly from Lilo and Stitch or like Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb. Part of Perry's look when not an agent is to look in opposite directions which is a bit difficult to show with no whites of the eyes, the sclera. Some that I don't understand is Timon from Lion King. I don't think the sclera is that big of a major identifying detail about Timon and the Pumba tsum has the usual dot eyes.

There is at least one tsum that has normal eyes, The White Queen from Alice in Wonderland (Live-action Tim Burton directed one). It just feels cursed compared to all the other tsums. There's also Mushu from Mulan who has cartoony eyes going on which seems weird as his eyes weren't drawn like that in the movie. That just seems like a random design detail randomly thrown onto him. It's like the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons eye shape. Which works for the Cars tsums and for Goofy since the originals have similar shapes. So the exception to dot eyes seems to be if the original has an iconic look associated to that part, though sometimes it's broken for no clear reason? I can only guess artistic choice.

Another common rule seems to be that tsums don't have mouths. The only ones that break that exception and make sense to me are ones with beaks, Pacman, and that one dog from the Coco movie. I haven't seen the movie (though I do intend to watch it some day) but I recall from the trailers it always has its tongue sticking out. So that tsum having a tongue makes sense.

If the character has buck-teeth then they're given mouths. Or if they're like Jack Skellington and Oogie Boogie, both from The Nightmare Before Christmas, then that also makes sense as they do have unique mouths as well. The ones that don't really make sense to me is when there's a random smile? Judy Hopps, Zootopia, has a smile while Nick Wilde, also from Zootopia, has no mouth. I don't usually think of smiling as a unique character identification trait unless it's perhaps that the character can only smile.

Another common rule seems to be a round dot for the nose. Yet this is rather flexible, usually changing for animals. Some characters get a bit more shape to their noses. Though I have noticed that if the original design of a character has a sharp-pointed nose, that's rounded out. At least, that's the case for Pinocchio. Of course some have no noses like the fish tsums.

Hair and other details seem rather free. Just make it look like felt. They can have hats, glasses, earrings, and they do have ears. Usually very small and tiny unless the character's original design doesn't have usual human ears. Heck they even take into account if the character has hearing aids. Carl from Up had what I thought was a dark hole on his ear, but then I realized that wasn't depth design but a hearing aid since his other ear doesn't match. A few rare tsums will even hold an item. Like Maleficient from Sleeping Beauty holds a small staff.

The main major rules seem to be that they must look like they're made of felt and have a round pill-shape.

Oh and have a photo of some of the most unusual tsums I spotted and put together in ms paint.

The top left is the Pixar Lamp. I know Yzma's, from Emperor's New Groove, eyelashes are a big detail, but couldn't they still work with dot eyes? I don't know what's going on with Sully, Monster's Inc, as he looks a bit badly patch-worked? Interesting that the Mirror of Darkness from Snow White has a tsum. That basically breaks the common shape. The crab from Moana is the biggest violation of breaking the usual shapes. That red guy on the top right is Sebastian from The Little Mermaid. Need I say more?

The pink one is one of the little oysters from Alice in Wonderland (animated) movie. The one with the regular human eyes is The White Queen from Alice in Wonderland (live-action) movie.

I might redraw some of these in what I view as the rough guidelines from tsums just to see if I can understand the reasoning of why they're so different.

This is supposed to be Wall-E. Wall-E isn't yellow. Like they didn't even try to get the details on his body, like perhaps the top part of his square body could be what's seen behind his head-eyes. I would think brown for a main color, not emoji yellow. Just isn't right.

So I didn't actually end up taking any pictures AT the convention because I was overwhelmed and constantly moving but here is my first ever figurine :D like to pick him up and hold him like a little creature

atsumu hates it when you eat his fav foods in front of him. as an athlete he needs to maintain shape, so his nutritionist advises he lays off foods heavy with grease and what not. to make matters worse you know he can't have them so you'll go out of your way to buy/cook these foods just to tease him.

oh honey, you're eating his favorite burger? he's like a little puppy watching you eat, his eyes trail each bite you take. "want some tsumu?" you're so mean to him... "um no! i don't- I can't" his stomach protests for him, growling rather loudly.

"a little bite won't kill you, tsum." you're down right terrible, licking the sauce off of your fingers and everything. "babyyyyyyy" he's so whiny when you do things like this to him.

he plans to only have one bite then ends up finishing your whole burger.... oops?

"if I get fat i'm blaming you." he grumbles while wiping his face with his napkin.

"I like your abs but you'd look nice with a bit of a tummy." your comment leaves him quite flustered, he stomps away, ears turning bright red.

So I was playing the Tsum 2 event for TWST, and I know you don’t care about the event, I can’t help but imagine how if it was PTM!Jade and PTM!Tsum Jade that came, with the latter being extremely attached to MC and MC being pretty affectionate because it’s so cute (unless MC can also read Tsum Jade’s thoughts? What would they even be?) and Jade being extremely jealous about his Tsum counterpart experiencing the heaven he himself can’t get (yet)

Bonus: If MC snuggles Tsum Jade to their breasts, much to the Tsum’s pleasure and Jade’s chagrin

Perhaps the tsums come again the following year to wreak havoc again! Yuu is simply trying to vibe, until they get McTackled buy a round lump, and there it is, Tsum Jade! Tsum Jade is nuzzling into their neck, making cute little squeaks and trying its absolute best to reach your face to give you a lil kiss kiss!

Jade is walking around, trying to figure out where the hell his tsum went! He's so confused, one second it was on his shoulder, the next it bolted off somewhere! He makes his way to Ramshackle, where Yuu is cooing at the tiny tsum in their arms. He's smiling, finding the scene cute, up until the tsum jumps up and leaves a kiss on their lips!!!

Yuu is vibing, Tsum Jade is relatively harmless, and the only thing they can make out thought was more squeaks. They can safely assume that Tsum Jade is saying something similar as normal Jade would, but they don't have to deal with the embarrassment that comes with actually hearing the thoughts. The tsum is also more akin to an excitable puppy, than a whole merman, so they're fine indulging Tsum Jade's affections.

At least until they can make out Jade's thoughts of murder and bloodshed, zeroed in on the lump in their arms. He's very upsetti spaghetti! Those lips are his!!! Not the tsum's!!! HOW DARE—

Jade is interrupted mid-scheme by another little bean shaped tsum barreling into his back. Annoyed, he turns around to find Tsum Yuu! It's hopping around, looking up at him with a confused expression, before looking at Yuu and Tsum Jade. It then launches itself waaaay over to Tsum Jade and pushes it out of Yuu's arms.

Now both Yuu and Jade, standing next to each other, are confused. Yuu is half-expecting Tsum Yuu to run off from Tsum Jade, maybe it was pushing Tsum Jade out of their arms to help them escape! Jade's just mentally freaking out about how cute Tsum Yuu is!

To your shock, and Jade's absolute delight, Tsum Yuu is nuzzling against Tsum Jade, pressing their faces together in what you assume are kisses. Yuu is wondering why the hell their tsums are being so affectionate with each other. Jade is contemplating about using the obviously in love tsums as a gateway into make out with Yuu.

"Perhaps we should follow their example, fuhuh~"

When you first came to Iago's Paradise, you didn't expect the lifeguards to be so cute! Small and round, fitting in the palm of your hand. It made you wonder, can a pool really run with plushies as lifeguards? Let's find out! ♡

❂ The cutest little guy, beaming and full of energy. He's dressed similar to his counterpart, a pair of sunglasses on his head and a whistle around his neck. A tsum sized life preserver is strapped to his back, shaped like a parrot (just like Kalim's)

❂ He bounces in his chair when he sees you enter, waving his tiny arm in greeting. He has to stop himself from jumping down to meet you, knowing he has a job to do. That won't stop him from sneaking away when he has the chance though, making sure Jamil has things covered before running off.

❂ If someone's drowning, don't worry! Kalim's tsum has things covered, leaping into the water. He swims over to the person quickly, grabbing onto them and growing in size, floating them out of the pool. He looks them over, making sure they're alright as he waits for Jamil to arrive with the first aid kit. He stays with them, doing his best to provide comfort as Jamil checks their vitals.

❂ You look a bit down today, laying in your sun chair turned away from him. His expression is sad for a moment before perking back up, an idea coming to mind. He bounces off, heading to the Cave of Wonders before rushing over, carrying a cup of your favorite ice cream on his back. He hops onto your sun chair, presenting the ice cream proudly. He hopes it can make your day a bit better, bouncing up to nuzzle your cheek before heading back to work.

❂ The kids love Kalim's tsum, inviting him to play whenever they can. He eagerly accepts every time, jumping in joy as he joins them. He continues to work as he plays, keeping an eye on the kids and making sure they're safe. He hopes that you'll join in as well, squirting you with a water gun before bouncing off ♡

❂ Even though he's a plush toy, he still takes his job seriously, feeling responsible for those who visit. His long hair is down, with a pair of sunglasses on his head and a whistle around his neck (just like his counterpart). He has a tsum sized life preserver strapped to his back, shaped like a snake. Children who visit the pool still refer to him as Mr. Snake (and occasionally as Mr. Tsum, if they're unfamiliar with him)

❂ His eyes wander towards the entrance, waiting for you to show. When you arrive he nods his tiny head in greeting, doing his best to focus on the pool. He can't help but get distracted by your presence though, staring at you throughout the day. When things quiet down, he'll stop by to see you, making sure Kalim has things covered while he's away.

❂ The whistle around his neck isn't a toy, using it when he needs to. Don't worry, he's not upset or angry. He just wants you to be more careful, putting your safety first. If you run you could slip and hurt yourself, or fall into the water. The kids do their best to understand his nonverbal way of communicating, and greatly respect him. They do their best to follow the rules, pleasing the tsum and making his job a little bit easier.

❂ It's a hot day today, the sun shining and the air humid. You've been in the pool for a while, soaking in the water. It's a nice way to cool down, but the tsum noticed you hadn't drank anything for a while, growing concerned for you. He hops down from his chair, going to the cooler before making his way over to you, carrying a cold drink on his back. He blows his whistle, standing near the edge as he signals for you to get out of the pool. Once you were out, he hands you the drink, waiting for you to take a sip before heading back to his chair.

❂ When it's almost time to close, the tsum will indulge you, joining you in the water. He grows in size, allowing you to use him as a pool float, laying on his back. You enjoy each other's company as the sun starts to set, the sky a mix of orange and pink. You'll visit again tomorrow, won't you? ♡

Bonus Scene:

You're laying in the pool, relaxing with the tsums. Your eyes are shut as the sun shines down, enjoying it's warmth in the cool water. You're startled out of your thoughts at the sound of whistles going off, almost turning over in your pool float. You look towards the sound to find Jamil and Kalim, standing near the edge of the pool. They don't look pleased as they stare at their tsums, holding their whistles in their hand. They want some attention too, you know ♡

*shows Crowley Tsum in hands*

What should we do?

Enter; An Unkindness of Ravens.

“Oh my, if it isn’t a mini-me!!” Crowley exclaimed. He excitedly scooped up his Tsum self from you, marveling at the strange creature. "Salutations, mini-me!"

The bean-shaped being perfectly fit in the palm of his hand. It matched his dress in every way, from the mask to the feathered cape and crisp suit and tie, all crowned off by a top hat on a mop of dark, loose waves. Bright yellow eyes blinked up at the new onlooker.

"Fufu, look at how handsome it is!" Crowley gushed, scratching the Tsum behind a tiny pointed ear. The Tsum shook with happiness and leaned into his finger. "But of course, anything made in my likeness is sure to be brimming with the same charm as I!"

“It fell from the sky and bonked me on the head while I was walking up the path to Ramshackle,” you explained. “It was right after got back from grocery shopping at Mister S's Mystery Shop and the Tsum started to go through my..."

"Aren't you an adorable thing! Yes you are!" Crowley's voice had taken on a high pitch--the sound of a doting parent to an infant or a beloved pet. "I'll bet you're as gracious as you are cute! Cootchie cootchie coo!"

"Um, headmaster? Headmaster? Hello-oooo, are you paying attention to anything I'm saying?"

"Hmm, what?" Crowley startled, registering you for the first time since entering his office. His tone, suddenly dismissive. "Yes, yes, I am listening and taking your report very seriously, Prefect!"

"Great, so you'll take it off my hands for me. it's been a real troublemaker, and I don't know if I can deal with and everything else on my plate."

"A troublemaker? This little fellow? Preposterous! Why, he wouldn't cause trouble for anyone." Crowley patted the Tsum on its head (which blended with its rounded body). It seemed to smile at him, bouncing in place. "Perhaps you might be able to assist me with my oh-so important administrative work? There are some documents that need to be reviewed and signed."

He lowered the Tsum, allowing it to hop onto his desk, where a few papers laid. You watched in silence as the Tsum explored its new surroundings. Poking, bouncing, prodding. His inkwell, the quill.

Anything but the documents—which went completely ignored.

The Tsum turned away, disinterested. It preoccupied itself with taking in the shininess of a nearby candelabra.

You raised an eyebrow at Crowley. It really is exactly like him.

"I-I'm sure he's taking his time! What matters is the quality of work produced, not the quantity nor how quickly is it completed!"

As he protested, the Tsum padded to the edge of the desk and stared over its edge. Then it tipped over, diving into an open desk drawer. The Tsum's rump stuck up in the air, happily wiggling as it swam in a sea of wrapped cookies and candies.

The headmaster let out a distressed squawk. "W-Wait, don't go in there! That's my top-secret snack stash...!!"

He yanked the Tsum out by a stubby foot, dangling it like a ragdoll. A macaron was in the Tsum's grasp, rapidly vanishing into its nonexistent mouth as if being sucked in by a vacuum. Crowley's eyes bulged.

"I tried to warn you," you shrugged. "It finished a whole loaf of bread from my groceries before I fished it out. Speaking off..." You extended a hand, palm up. "I'll need more monthly allowance to replace that bread."

His jaw dropped. Not at your misfortune, you suspected, but at the idea of having to shell out more money.

"Wh-What! Why must I be responsible for such a thing when I'm not responsible for the damage to begin with!?"

"You called it a 'mini-me'," you pointed out, "so take some responsibility for 'yourself' and make things right."

"I-I know I may have said that on impulse, but upon closer inspection... In what way does a Tsum that acts carefree, shirks work, and stuffs his face resemble me?!"

Uh, in every way...

"In any case, I am far too busy with my duties as headmaster to put aside time to monitor this hooligan," Crowley declared. The Tsum writhed in his hold, reminding you of a pathetic worm speared on a hook. "However, it happens that I know of a proven beast tamer who is perfectly suited to keeping him in check!"

His gaze settled on you, and your stomach sank.

Crowley grinned, approaching you and placing the Tsum on your shoulder. It immediately nuzzled up to you, nestling in the crook of your neck.

"I'm counting on you, Prefect!" he chirped, giving a strong, encouraging pat on your back. "My expectations for my students are quite high, and you are certainly no exception to that rule~"

Rocket Plushie Review

My thoughts on Rocket plushies! I only own some of these so for those I'll go into a little more detail, but most of this is just based on vibes lol

This isn't in any sort of ranking or order

I love this one! His fur feels so soft and he sits on my desk and keeps me company. Reminds me of Pokemon's "Sitting Cuties" line of plushes. Sometimes he'll fall over a little but that's really only if he's sitting on a more uneven surface like a bed or sofa, on my desk he sits fine

This one looks like one of those Littlest Pet Shop toys. So many of the other Rocket plushies look good I don't know what happened here.

Sweet, sleepy boy I love to cuddle him ❤️ Both huggable and snuggable. My sleep has improved 120% since getting him 10/10 would recommend

This is my son my precious little child I love him I want the world for him he is the greatest thing in all of existence. He is so very soft and the perfect size to hug and to hold. ❤️

This is the first Rocket plush I ever got he is very special to me 🥹 I like the chibified design, very adorable! He does have a hard time sitting up on his own because of his disproportionately sized head, I usually have to lean him against something. His ears are velvety soft!

Tiny gremlin, an actual creature. He is full of bad ideas. I like that he comes with a tiny gun
