#tsubasa was a bit hard because they keep jumping around worlds and i never get the chance to get invested in a side character xD

For the blorbo ask game: the one and only Pandora Hearts and/or the cesspool of worms and suffering RotE and/or Tsubasa
Send me a fandom and I’ll tell you my:
(cesspool of worms and suffering--i'm interpreting this to mean the fitz and the fool trilogy because the you i know and love would probably do that to me)
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) I think a lot about Bee and Fitz and the Fool though perhaps less in a blorbo sense and more in a 'I wish things were different' sense.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) That would be little Bee 😂
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) Molly was a real gift in this trilogy I can't believe she was only present for half a book Molly ily and your candles you deserved better
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) Celerity 😭 also Starling tbh and that messenger lady Fitz and Bee burned
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) I think Fitz fits the bill 😂 ngl i still had a big fitz apologist side, at least for the first book or so, although one's patience understandably wears thin by the time they're reading the last one lmao 🔪
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) Dwalia, probably. She's dumb as hell it'd be almost too easy xD
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) Lant, because I'm petty xD (not that there aren't objectively far worse people/characters but thinking about them makes me want to eeby deeby the entire books 😌)
(Tsubasa)
blorbo Syaoran/Tsubasa. I think it really takes something special to make me blorbo the main character but Clamp really got me with this one 😂 he does give off side character vibes tbf. But also not. I think there's some genius in introducing your main character after 17 volumes and still making it work.
scrunkly child Kurogane 🥺
scrimblo bimblo Mokona! I think that being so small and non-human she gets too often the 'cute mascot' scrunkly treatment when actually she's like everyone's big sister and best friend and I love her relationship with Sakura so muuuch 😭
glup shitto Xing Huo is a bit that for me haha I'm wayy too interested in her non-existent background
poor little meow meow King Ashura of Celes 🙈 I kind of like the parallel with RG Veda, how he ends up destroying the world just because he selfishly wants to save the one person he cannot save, and the fact that said person is his child in RG Veda says a lot about what Clamp intended his side of the relationship with Fai to mean. Also I enjoy the irony that he can actually see the future in Tsubasa while being at his core someone who stubbornly doesn't believe in Fate™. Fun "has seen God but identifies as atheist" vibes
horse plinko Seishirou, probably, because it does sound like fun 😌
eeby deeby Kyle Rondart because he literally adds nothing of value xD
#rote#fitz and the fool trilogy#fitz and the fool spoilers#tsubasa#ask game#skey#blorbo ask#that was fun ty so much for the ask <3#tsubasa was a bit hard because they keep jumping around worlds and i never get the chance to get invested in a side character xD

Goshi Kaneshiro SSR
2019 ー Live Street Show [路上ライブ]
“Yeah. …… I’m always serious about my work. Even if I die, I won’t compromise when it comes to music. It’s myself who knows best that this feeling is genuine.”
『Event: Hit and Run! Super Rookies (17th - 29th September 2019)』
Part 1
THRIVE are practicing for the upcoming baseball match against the professionals.
Yuta: ‘Gochin, nice pitch! You’re also already perfect in using the curves and straights!’
Goshi: ‘Yeah.’
Yuta: ‘Isn’t it time for you to rest your shoulders? Kenken, it’s your turn to practice batting ~!’
Kento: ‘Already? Isn’t it too early?’
Yuta: ‘It’s not! Come on, stand up, stand up ~!’
Tsubasa: ‘You did well, Kaneshiro-san. Please use this towel. I also have this drink for you.’
Goshi: ‘Aa, thanks.’
Tsubasa: ‘Fufu, I was a little worried when I first heard that everyone was not very familiar with baseball but… there was no need to. Kaneshiro-san too, and the other members as well are very good at it, not only experienced players can see it.’
Goshi: ‘.... Is that so?’
Yuta: ‘Kenken, how about doing the bunt* with all your might during practice! Swing the bat!’
Kento: ‘I refuse. I noticed that this form doesn’t disturb my bangs. Above all, it’s one that makes the hand of the opponent feel shaken, right.’
Yuta: ‘That might be true! But we’re practicing to hit a home run right now ~!!’
Observing the scene in front of him, Goshi doubts Tsubasa’s words from earlier.
Goshi: ‘....You still think like that?’
Tsubasa: ‘I-Including now! It is possible for you to be able to play properly!’
Her honest words of encouragement make Goshi chuckle a bit.
Goshi: ‘Ha, how so? But never did I think to play baseball. If it wasn’t for work I wouldn’t ever have tried it, I guess.’
Tsubasa: ‘That might be true. Baseball tournaments between non-professional teams or grass-lot baseball** are both basically like professional ones, I think.’
Goshi: ‘You’re right.’
Tsubasa: ‘.... So, how is it?’
Goshi: ‘Hm? What do you mean?’
Tsubasa: ‘Baseball. As expected, it is quite difficult to practice between other jobs, right.’
Goshi: ‘That’s true. But… it’s surprisingly not bad. I feel like both my body and head are always using different parts. Or rather…. It’s more fun than I thought….’
Tsubasa: ‘I see…! I’m glad to hear that, to be honest, I wouldn’t know what to do if it had turned into a burden for you….’
Goshi: ‘It’s not really a matter you should be worried about. After all, whether it’s hard or not, I will give it my all if it’s work.’
Goshi: ‘But this time… I feel like I was reminded of something that I started to forget.’
Tsubasa: ‘Something you started to forget?’
Goshi: ‘Yeah. How should I put it, it’s the attitude towards jumping into an unknown world and challenging it boldly… To keep growing, you absolutely can’t lose this feeling. But…when you get desperate, you forget even such a thing.’
Goshi: ‘.... I, too, need to pay more attention to other things from now on.’ ___________
After the short but serious talk THRIVE heads to their next job, to the radio station.
Kento: ‘Today’s theme was 『THRIVE members’ favourites』so it says, we first went with one song.’
Yuta: ‘It was super cool right from the intro~! As expected of Gochin’s favourite song. It’s the one that I can hear in the morning coming from your room, right?’
Goshi: ‘Yeah, I’m often using it instead of the alarm clock now. It’s good to get yourself started. To reach the top with just your singing and a guitar, I’m overwhelmed by such skill and strength.’
Kento: ‘If I’m not mistaken, he was a street musician. He was scouted by someone from a recording company who stopped in front of him. It was his major debut, no?’
Goshi: ‘Right. From the start, it seems to be quite the famous home then, huh. I also heard that his voice was slow***.’
Goshi: ‘Hearing that, I’m a bit frustrated, to be honest. Talent and effort alone take time.’
Yuta: ‘Yes yes, even if you can make and sing a cool song, there’s still luck and timing ~’
Yuta: ‘But to have someone find him was amazing!! Speaking of which, where’s his hometown?’
Goshi: ‘It’s Fukuoka.’
Yuta: ‘Hee~! Then should we go to the place where he’s singing!?’
This was something he was not supposed to talk about. But Yuta hasn't noticed yet. He keeps talking.
Kento: ‘Eh? …. Hey, Yutaーー’
Yuta: ‘Ehehe, baseball, ramen, pilgrimage…..! I’m excited to visit Fukuoka but I added another one~ ♪.’
Goshi: ‘You….. Didn’t we tell you to not speak about it again.’
Yuta: ‘Huuh?....... Ahh!!!’
Goshi: ‘Geez…..’
Yuta: ‘Hyahー, I’m so sorry! Please cut that scene just now out, dear staff.’
Goshi: ‘Are you an idiot? It’s a live broadcast!’
Yuta: ‘Wahwah, you’re right!’
To change the topic, Kento suggests with a smile to move on.
Kento: ‘Alright, let’s all forget what was just said.’
Kento: ‘Should I let you listen to my favourite song, hm? I like that its lyrics capture my feelings for all you sweet girls. So carefully listen to the song and take in my feelings, okay?’ ___________
Tsubasa: ‘ーーThank you for the live broadcast, everyone!’
Yuta: ‘Thanks, Tsubasa-chan~! About earlier, I’m sorry!! Tsubasa-chan won’t get angry, right!?’
Tsubasa: ‘Fufu, no I won’t. Because it was not talked about in detail.’
Yuta: ‘Really!? I’m relieved~.......!’
Tsubasa: ‘Ah….. Speaking of which, it is about the talk about Fukuoka. I was contacted earlier. It was decided that Kaneshiro-san’s and Aizome-san’s stay as well will be extended.’
Goshi: ‘Why’s that so? …… Don’t tell me we also have to practice making ramen.’
Kento: ‘Eh, is that true? No way, I don’t need to wear a towel around my head, right?’
Tsubasa: ‘No, it is a different matter. Requests for shootings and interviews came in for both Kaneshiro-san and Aizome-san. Some local magazines like to put together a special feature.’
Kento: ‘Aah, I see.’
Tsubasa: ‘It seems that the shooting will happen early in the morning on the day after the baseball match. The schedule will be quite hard but I am hoping for your cooperation.’
Goshi: ‘Understood.’
Kento: ‘I’m also counting on you, Tsubasa.’
Part 2
ーThe day of the interviews and photoshoot.ー
Tsubasa: ‘ーーThis will be all for the photoshoot at this location. Next is the still photoshoot near the live house. Afterwards, you will have a talk with its owner.’
Goshi: ‘Okay.’
Kento (grinning): ‘..... Goshi, you seem awfully happy?’
Goshi (smiling): ‘Of course I am. You don’t know that but the live house we’ll go to now is a sacred place for music lovers. The top artists always mention this place first when they’re in magazines or the TV, even now.’
Kento (rolls his eyes): Uwah, look at the high tension…..’
Goshi (annoyed): ‘What? It’s because you brought up the topic! Don’t play dumb!’
(Fufu, Kaneshiro-san really likes the music. When he looks so happy, compared to his usual appearance, it even makes me smile.) ___________
ーIn the live house.ー
Kento: ‘Hee….. That’s some amazing collection of signs. And only from top-notch celebrities. There’s also a sign from the person, the radio talked about the other day.’
Goshi: ‘Yeah…..’
Kento: ‘...... Are you stargazing?’
Goshi: ‘No, that’s not itーー Wait a minute. Wow….. For real, the whole band is coming here.’
Goshi: ‘This one here…..’
Goshi (shocked): ‘Artists that haven’t performed in Japan yet are coming here!? No way…..!’
Kento: ‘Tsubasa, look at the excited figure next to you. Since it’s happening, don’t you think it would be better to record it. If you show it to them when they’re acting normal, it certainly will be amusing.’
Tsubasa: ‘Fufu, you’re right. You don’t often see this juvenile Kaneshiro-san.’
Goshi: ‘Oi, don’t treat me like a kid.’
Tsubasa: ‘I-I am sorry……!’
Kento: ‘Hey, she was right, so stop picking a quarrel with her. That was scary, right, Tsubasa.’
Goshi: ‘Right back at you, stop taking advantage of Sumisora and make her do stuff.’
Kento (teasing): ‘What, did Goshi want to chat with Tsubasa some more, as well?’
Goshi: ‘What?’
Tsubasa: ‘Y-You two….. Ah right, there is a matter concerning an inquiry prior to now.’
Goshi: ‘...... What is it?’
Tsubasa: ‘It seems that the store’s owner’s passion and the depth of his knowledge for music is famous and that many artists come here to listen to his talks. However, no matter how famous one is, if there is no appointment, then it looks like he will be denied serving customers…..’
Kento: ‘Why is that so?’
Tsubasa: ‘It seems that the owner’s most important matter is to support young musicians. Giving the artists who are performing near the street a stage to stand on without compensation, or upon finding a talented one making contact with someone related to music…..’
Tsubasa: ‘Because at times with such an arrangement, it will be given priority. Because, by no means, does he want to slow down the young ones who are taking on『A new challenge』.’
Kento: ‘Hee….. Very cool.’
Goshi: ‘Yeah…… Human beings can easily be swayed by fame and money. Not everyone can do it. It’s an honour to hear it from such a person.’
Tsubasa: ‘I agree, I also like to let you learn from him.’
Staff: ‘The equipment preparation is done! Kaneshiro-san, Aizome-san, let’s start!’
Kento: ‘Yes. We’ll be in your care.’ ___
Goshi: ‘.......『A new challenge』, huh.’
Tsubasa: ‘Kaneshiro-san?’
Goshi: ‘...... Yeah, I’m going now.’ ___________
ーIn THRIVE’s hotel room.ー
A knock on the door.
Yuta: ‘Yes, who is it?’
Tsubasa: ‘I am sorry, to come so late in the night….. Sumisora here. I have something to talk about regarding the schedule tomorrow.’
Yuta: ‘Eh? Tsubasa-chan? W-Wait a minute, okay!?’
Tsubasa: ‘......? Yuta-kun?’
Yuta: ‘Fuuh…… Sorry for making you wait, Tsubasa-chan! Here, come in!’
Tsubasa: ‘I am sorry, did I perhaps interrupt you at something…..?’
Yuta: ‘No No No, not at all!!’
Tsubasa: ‘Sweat….. Was it dance practice?’
Yuta: ‘Ah~ ….. Yep! Something like that! More importantly, what’s about the schedule?’
Tsubasa: ‘Oh, it’s about Kaneshiro-san and Aizome-san’s schedule….. Where are they?’
Yuta: ‘Eh? Usually, they’re outside….. Could it possibly be that they went out without telling Tsubasa-chan!?’
Tsubasa: ‘Y-Yes……’
Yuta: ‘Waah, I thought they certainly let you know properly, so I didn’t stop them….. I’m so sorry!! I’ll try to contact them on LINE, wait a minute!’
Part 3
Yuta: ‘Ah, a reply from Kenken!’
Tsubasa: ‘I’m glad…. I wonder where they are now?’
Yuta: ‘Ehm…… Yep, it must be the usual…..’
Tsubasa: ‘Eh?’
Yuta: ‘No, anyway, he said he’ll come back. It looks like he’s not too far away.’
Tsubasa: ‘That is reassuring to hear. And, Kaneshiro-san…..’
Yuta: ‘No, Gochin didn’t reply. Where did he go? He also didn’t read my message at all…..’
Tsubasa: ‘I see….. If that is the case, then I will go look around a bit nearby.’
Yuta: ‘Eh? It’s going to be dangerous when you go out at this hour all alone! I’m going, too!’
Tsubasa: ‘It will be fine. I will not go too far since I am not familiar with the surroundings here. Besides, it will be troublesome if you miss each other.’
Yuta: ‘But…..’
Tsubasa: ‘Should Kaneshiro-san come back, I would be thankful, if you contact me immediately. Could I ask you for this favour?’
Yuta (worried): ‘Tsubasa-chan……. Alright, leave it to me! But, you really need to be careful! Absolutely not get involved with weird people!’
Tsubasa: ‘I understood. I will be going now.’ ___________
Tsubasa: ‘....... He’s not here as well, huh.’
(Kaneshiro-san, he can’t be found at all…. Where in the world could he be. I haven’t heard of a friend he has here. A place he would go to, perhaps the place near the photoshoot today?)
(Or, a place that’s related to musicーー)
Tsubasa: ‘Oh…. The sound of a guitar?’
Tsubasa: ‘I remember, there are many street musicians around here. I wonder if Kaneshiro-san’s favourite artists also performed in this kind of place…..’
Music: ~~~♪♪
(A comfortable tone colour…..)
Music: ~~~♪♪
(The singing voice is amazing as well…..)
Tsubasa: ‘...... Eh? This voice…..’
???: ‘...... Thank you very much.’
Tsubasa: ‘Eh……!?’
Goshi: ‘Ah? ……. Damn.’
Tsubasa: ‘K-Kaneshiro-san! What are you doing!?’
Part 4
Goshi: ‘Hey, keep your voice down…..!’
Tsubasa: ‘I-I am sorry….. But, what are you doing in such a place…..’
Goshi: ‘What I’m doing, you say….. You’ll understand by seeing it, right. I’m giving a street performance.’
Tsubasa: ‘Saying it so easily….. But wait please, where is the guitar from?’
Goshi: ‘That’s….. The master of the store from today lent it to me. When he said, if you have something you absolutely want to do, take it.’
Tsubasa: ‘Something you want to do….. Is it a street live?’
Goshi: ‘Yeah.’
Goshi: ‘Well….. Sorry for doing so without telling you.’
Tsubasa: ‘That is true. you neither contacted nor read the messages….. I was very worried.’
Goshi (sighs): ‘I said, I’m sorry, didn’t I. About that….. Sorry.’
Tsubasa: ‘Kaneshiro-san….. Because you are safe, it’s fine. However, why all of the sudden…..’
Goshi: ‘Why did I want to sing here, you mean?’
Tsubasa: ‘Yes. Even though you have a lot of places where you can sing.’
Goshi: ‘That’s…… I, too, wanted to try out the challenge in this city. Standing here, with just my own will, in this place.’
Goshi: ‘At that time….. Do you remember what we talked about when I practiced baseball? I said that I want to, even more, shift my focus on other things.’
Tsubasa: ‘Of course. Not wanting to forget the feeling of jumping into an unknown world.’
Goshi: ‘Yeah. …… I’m always serious about my work. Even if I die, I won’t compromise when it comes to music. It’s myself who knows best that this feeling is genuine.’
Goshi: ‘But, it’s not that I think this alone is enough. Obsessing too much over your own tone, causes you to lose your flexibility. As a result, if you limit this expression, it’ll come to nothing. This is why I wanted to jump into a new world here and see something for myself that I can’t see.’
Tsubasa: ‘..... I’m very grateful that you talked to me. I was able to somehow understand the reason why Kaneshiro-san wants to sing in this place. So…… Were you able to see it? Something new…..’
Goshi (sighs): ‘....... I wonder. To be honest, I don’t understand it. But it certainly made sense.’
Goshi (smiles): ‘Since there are a lot of drunkards here, nobody noticed, that means I completely lack the skill as an idol. That’s the sole thing I noticed. Though, there were also people who stopped and listened to my music even if they didn’t know me.’
Goshi: ‘That’s enough for now.’
Tsubasa: ‘........’
(...... When I think about the various dangers, he really needs to pay attention properly….. But, when he shows such a fulfilling expression, I can’t say anything.)
Goshi: ‘..... What’s wrong, Sumisora.’
Tsubasa: ‘No….. Should there be something you want to do, I would be grateful if you tell me in a few words from now on. I will do my best to support you.’
Goshi (smiles): ‘...... Okay. Thanks.’
Goshi: ‘Alright, I’m going to put away my things, so wait for a minーー’
???: ‘Eh~! You’re going already~? Mister, won’t you please play another cool song?’
Goshi (surprised): ‘Ah……?’
Part 5
Goshi: ‘...... You two…..’
Kento: ‘You seem to be doing quite some enjoyable thing, Goshi.’
Yuta (blushes): I became a fan of you, mister~! I want to hear more!! Encore! Encore!!’
Goshi: ‘Don’t joke with me, shut it!’
Tsubasa: ‘Why are you here, you two……’
Yuta: ‘When I was able to meet up with Kenken safely, I left Gochin a note and went to look for Tsubasa-chan.’
Kento: ‘Leaving a cute girl behind in the city night, you can’t do that.’
Tsubasa: ‘You are right….. I am sorry to have worried you.’
Kento: ‘No, to begin with, it’s our fault, we need to apologize.’
Yuta (grins): ‘Exactly.’
Kento: ‘...... But I’m glad we found Tsubasa right away. I also could see that Goshi was in his springtime of life all alone.’
Yuta: ‘True, true! It was the opposite atmosphere from hiding your face and looking down!’
Goshi: ‘You lot, you’re totally making fun of me, right….. Geez, enough with that. Let’s get going.’
Yuta: ‘Waah, wait, wait! I really meant it with the encore earlier! It’s such a rare opportunity, I genuinely want to hear Gochin’s song!’
Yuta (smiles): ‘Idol Goshi is cool, too. But street musician Goshi is shining incredibly as well. ♪ That’s why, as a guest, I want to listen to your singing.’
Goshi (surprised): ‘Ashu……’
Kento: ‘Yeah. Now that Yuta said that, just do one song. If you like, I’ll give you 1000¥.’
Goshi: ‘No, thanks! And what’s with the arrogant attitude!’
Yuta: ‘Anyways, I want to hear Gochin’s song~! Until you won’t let me listen to it, I won’t move.’
Goshi: ‘Come again?’
Kento (winks): ‘Don’t waste time. Besides, Goshi also wants to sing more, yes?’
Goshi (sighs): ‘..... Tch. Good grief, I don’t have a choice. Only one song.’
Yuta: ‘Yay~!!’
Goshi: ‘..... Is that fine, Sumisora?’
Tsubasa: ‘Y-Yes. There are almost no people around anymore….. If it’s only for a bit.’
Goshi: ‘Then……’
The sound of Goshi’s guitar and his singing go through the street.
Yuta: ‘Waah……! When you listen to music in the midst of the city, it sounds different than usual! Very cool…..!’
Kento: ‘.........’
(As I thought, Kaneshiro-san’s music has amazing strength. I feel that both the tone of the guitar and the words directly resonate with usーー)
Goshi: ‘...... Fuuh.’
Yuta: ‘........’
Kento: ‘........’
Goshi: ‘...... What.’
Yuta: ‘....... I’m moved.’
Goshi (surprised): ‘Hah?’
Yuta: ‘I was so moved! You, aren’t you interested in the entertainment world!? I’ll definitely make you a star.’
Kento: ‘Ah, a scout appeared, Goshi. Isn’t that your chance for a major debut?’
Goshi: ‘Shut up! Don’t do that stupid imitation. Geez, it’s fine now. It’s the end, you hear. I’ll go return the guitar, so go back without me.’
Yuta: ‘Okay! Thanks, Gochin~! It really, absolutely was a wonderful performance!!’
Kento (teases): ‘When you go back and get lost, it will trouble Tsubasa, you know.’
Goshi: ‘You don’t need to remind me. Just go.’
Yuta: ‘Then see you back at the hotel~♪. Let’s go, Tsubasa-chan.’
Tsubasa: ‘Yes.’
Goshi: ‘..... Oi, Sumisora.’
Tsubasa: ‘......? How can I help.’
Goshi: ‘Don’t tell Yashamaru-san about today.’
Tsubasa: ‘E-Ehm, that is……’
To persuade her, Goshi closes their distance and asks her once again with a smile.
Goshi: ‘It’s a secret just between us. Understood?’
Tsubasa: ‘Uh…….’
Goshi: ‘If you did, then get going. See you later.’

Tsubasa: Oh my god, I’m the Karen in this friend group.
Itsuki: What? No, you’re the precious cinnamon roll. McNamara?
Tsubasa: Itsuki, that means that- Wait, who’s Ronnie? And who’s JD?
Ellie: I’m Ronnie, obviously.
Yashiro: I’m guessing that since Touma’s Duke, that makes me JD.
Touma: Seeing as how I get “Shut up, Heather!”ed constantly, I’m definitely Duke here.
Kiria: Who am I? Ms. Fleming? I’d say I’m Chandler, but in this scenario, that’s Itsuki.
Touma: Oh, you’re Ms. Fleming. 100%.
Kiria: shINE SHINE SHINE A LIGHT-
Tsubasa: Can you guys let me finish??
Kiria: Fine...
Tsubasa: Thanks, guys. Alright, so Itsuki, that means that you’re a mythic bitch, Touma’s got basically zero personality, and I’m just there. So Touma’s Bulimic and he’s throwing up so we’re helping him out and Kiria walks in and gives us all detention, but Ellie forges a Hall Pass and gets us out of detention, we invite her to join our little clique, we try to destroy Ellie’s childhood best friend emotionally by forging a note by her crush of 12 years that he liked him back because she’s overweight, Ellie protests and we sing an epic trio song about dumping her and joining us, Touma gets “Shut up, Heather!”ed and shoved down, he jumps up and joins us for the last harmony, she decides to join us, and we find out that Yashiro just transferred in and he’s immediately picked on by Ellie’s childhood friend’s crush and his best friend, Yashiro punches one of them in the face, the entire school’s does a harmony of “Holy Shit”, Ellie’s like “Damn, he’s h o t !” And sings an entire solo about how if he’s still alive after punching one of the school’s biggest bullies in the face, can they go out? So then there’s a huge party, and they’re at the local 7-11, so they can buy some corn nuts for the party. Yashiro sings this whole solo about how his mom died and his dad’s always moving him around so he can never make meaningful human connections, and also how he’s basically running the house because his dad doesn’t really do much, so he drinks a lot of slushies because he uses brain freezes as a way of self-harm, you yell from outside that Ellie’s taking too long, and so you all go to the party and Ellie’s having the time of her life. Me, you, and Touma then see Ellie’s childhood friend walk into the party, and then Touma tries to pitch an idea to destroy her and the “Shut up, Heather” counter hits two. So then after everything happens Touma brings in the pig-shaped piñata and says “Who’s this pig remind you of, especially the snout!” And then “Dang Dang Diggidy Dang-a-Dang” intensifies, then they dress the pig like Ellie’s childhood friend and then afterwards they pretend to like her so she’ll hit the piñata that’s dressed as her, Ellie realizes and grabs the piñata and tells her friend to go home, she does, and then Ellie’s like “I’m resigning my commission from the lip gloss gestapo” and you tell her that she doesn’t get to be a nobody anymore, she’s an ex-somebody now, and then she throws up on your shoes, you scream, and Ellie says, in the most epic way possible, “Lick it up, baby, Lick it up!”. So Ellie realized that she just committed social suicide, and decided that hey, she’s gonna die? Well she’s sure as hell not gonna die a virgin. So she breaks into Yashiro’s house in the middle of the night and he’s... he’s just down to fuck so let’s go. So then she’s asleep, and then she has a nightmare of you taunting her for being a slut because you know everything, Ellie wakes up screaming, she decides she has to apologize to you, and she goes over, grovels for mercy, and then she makes you a hangover cure because you said you’d think about it if she makes it, and so Yashiro makes a joke by pouring drain cleaner into a mug and saying that they should give it to you because it’s hard to tell in a mug that it looks wrong, she says that’s not funny, and goes to grab a mug, and it’s the drain cleaner one, Yashiro notices, but doesn’t say so, your last words are “Corn Nuts”, and then they stage it as a suicide and you haunt her, there’s a thing at school where everyone’s reading your suicide note and everyone’s happy meanwhile you’re screaming that everyone loves you now that you’re dead and everyone thinks you were a good person-
Itsuki: What the fuck?
Tsubasa: I’m not done! *deep breath* so we begin act 2 and everyone’s doing decently, and then I call Ellie and ask her to meet us at the graveyard, where we run into two drunk idiots that keep begging for consent to sex, Ellie’s immediately saying absolutely fucking not, leaves, and then Touma rises to power almost immediately, gets a dramatic solo because Ellie tries to yell at you to shut up, but since you’re a ghost he assumes she’s talking to him and does this whole solo where he says he’ll never shut up again and he and two other guys spread a rumor about Ellie doing the two other guys at once, Yashiro goes even more batshit and tricks Ellie again into killing the two guys that they say she did and makes it looks like they were gay for each other and killed themselves because the world would have rejected them, Kiria runs a whole assembly where she says she cares about saving lives when really she just wants attention, I volunteer to talk at the assembly, say “Jesus, I’m on the freaking bus again because all my rides to school are dead” I have my solo where I say I feel terrified at every turn about making the wrong move and losing every bit of my popularity, Touma goes feral on me for saying the truth, that the school is shit, and he drives me to a suicide attempt, Ellie saves my life and points out that if I was happy every day of my life, I’d be a game show host. Yashiro asks why the hell she saved me, Ellie says it’s because I’m her friend, Yashiro then suggests they kill Touma because he drove me to the suicide attempt, Ellie dumps Yashiro by singing that she’s done with all this murder bullshit, Ellie’s childhood friend jumps off a bridge, Touma makes fun of her and Ellie goes to the hospital to apologize, and ghosts of you and the two guys taunt her as Ellie’s parents come in and say that Yashiro told them about Ellie’s “suicidal thoughts” that he fabricated, and they showed her the copy of Moby Dick that she owns, which is filled with suicidal thoughts in her own handwriting, you go over her shoulder and go like “He’s got your handwriting down cold” and-
Itsuki: I don’t think I want to know the rest-
Tsubasa: I’m almost done! So then the ghost trio’s haunting the fuck out of Ellie and telling her that like. He’s coming for you and shit. And he is. Yashiro comes in through the window and then sings this entire solo about how they were meant for each other, and that he’s gonna blow up the school during a pep rally that’s about to start, says he’s gonna count to three before he opens the closet that she’s hiding in, goes “1, 2, Fuck it!” Pops the door open, sees Ellie hanging there, says he can’t do this alone but hey, if he has to, he’ll do it. So then Ellie’s mom walks in and screams, Ellie’s like “WAIT NO IT’S A JOKE”, heads to the pep rally, sings this whole thing where she says no one deserves to die except her and Yashiro, runs into Kiria who’s like “wtf Yashiro told me you committed suicide” and then tells her about the fact that the boiler room is under the gym, so Ellie goes down there, makes this entire speech about how she wishes they could have met before he was like this, they fight over the gun, Ellie gets it, shoots him, goes like “oh wait fuck I can’t disarm this”, brings the bomb out to the field and waits for it to explode so she’s the only one who’ll die, Yashiro runs in, grabs the bomb, tells her to get out of the way because he’s too damaged but she can still save herself, she leaves, comes into the school, dismantles the school’s social hierarchy, and then invites me and her childhood friend to binge movies.
Itsuki: Once again, what the fuck?
Tsubasa: I mean, hey, you’re the one who said I was McNamara.
Itsuki: You could have just said no??
Tsubasa: Not as fun. But, either way, if I’m the Karen that makes you Regina so that’s definitely wrong because-
Itsuki: I’ve seen Mean Girls, calm down-

Into the Riderverse (AU RP Interest Thread)
What has gone on before:
“I’m not supposed to tell you this, but when have I ever let the rules get in the way?” The message had come from Kaitou Daiki, also known as Kamen Rider Diend. “Behind the floodgates, you’ll find another gate. A gate to everywhere. Don’t let them open it.” And with that, the phantom thief had formed a dimensional wall and left Fourze and his allies in the Rabbit Hutch befuddled.
Certain allies were less confused by the cryptic clues from the blue Rider than Fourze was. After taking the time to hear the explanation from a friend who understood the answer, Fourze led his team down into the flood tunnels under Tokyo.
The Radar Module had been activated, and soon the scanner found something that definitely shouldn’t be there. There was no reason for a door to be inside the flood tunnels. After all, the first major storm would see that place under a foot a water.
After a few moments to pry open a door that definitely didn’t want to be opened, the Rider and his allies had found themselves in the middle of a Shocker laboratory. All around them, skull-masked goons were talking about the coming incursion, and how they’d take over the whole multiverse. At least that was the topic of conversation until they spotted one of their most hated foes. A Kamen Rider dared show his armored face in their lair?
What followed was like music. Fourze and his allies moved in such perfect synchronicity that the dozens of Shocker mooks never stood a chance against them. This finally led into a battle in the middle of a room that should not exist. A massive supercollider in a space barely big enough to contain an IMAX theater. And the collider had been turned on, just as Fourze found himself in hand-to-hand combat with an augmented human. The Snake Commander of Shocker fought against Fourze for ten minutes, luring him closer and closer to the center of the room. Finally, the supercollider reached critical state, and a dimensional gate was opened, catching Kamen Rider Fourze in the middle of it.
In a brief moment, Kamen Rider Fourze looked into the Multiverse, and the Multiverse looked back. He knew that he couldn’t allow Shocker to use this gate. So, summoning his Barizun Sword to his hand, he opened his own warp portal inside the dimensional portal, shunting the energy from the collider elsewhere. As thanks for protecting it from the whims of wicked men, the multiverse drew Fourze into it. His armor fell from around him and he turned to his allies, who had just subdued the Snake Commander.
“Don’t worry about me. Find them.” He gestured off into the portal at unseen figures. “They’ll be here soon. Find them, and bring them to Hikari…” What appears to be a humanoid form in grey mist drifted around his body, and Kisaragi Gentaro was gone.
There was no explosion, no shower of sparks. With an unceremonious “POP” the two portals collided with each other and slammed shut, taking their friend with them.
This left his allies in a secret base and very confused. But elsewhere, some other people are going to be very confused.
In a small photo studio, a young man with a Blackbird camera looks up at a photo backdrop of a moonbase, and shields his eyes as the image seems to shatter into seven pieces.
Turning to his own allies, Kadoya Tsukasa says “I know what you’re thinking, but this wasn’t my fault.”
----
All Right, Let’s Take it From the Top…
My Name is…
Sir Gentaro Bladebond, Paladin of the Goddess Kazashiro who stands for Purity, Beauty and Self-Worth.
I was raised in the temple of the Goddess to be her chosen champion. During a diplomatic mission to the Blue Sky Kingdom, to join my church to the church of their god Blue, I met a young mage named Tsubasa. She had lost everything that was dear to her, and I took her under my wing as I continued my adventure. We returned to the Blue Sky Kingdom bearing an artifact of great power, which we returned to Blue in person. For a few days, things were peaceful. Then my fellow acolytes called my attention to a strange vortex that opened in the divine gardens. Leaving Tsubasa in the care of Angela, my group’s ectomancy expert, I went to explore it. I found myself in a strange new world, with spires of steel and glass, and found myself in conflict with an unusual creature. A beast of stained glass, trying to claim the life force of a woman on the street. I drew my holy blade to fight the monster, and that’s where my story resumes…
---
My name is…
Gentaro Kisaragi, Blue Lantern of Space Sector 2814.
Seven years ago, I had an encounter with an alien spacecraft. The pilot, Roa’ka’nar, was heavily injured in the crash. I took him into my home and nursed him back to health. Through the whole time, I worked to keep him from reopening his wounds, helped him regain his strength and get accustomed to Earth food and tradition. When the time came for Roa’ka’nar to return to his homeworld, he revealed his true identity to me. He was a member of galactic protection agency, A Blue Lantern, who used hope to save the worlds. He told me his last battle before the crash had been so taxing that he was thinking of calling it quits. But I had stood by his side, and motivated him to be better. He saw in me the potential to bring great hope. So for the first time in Blue Lantern history, a Corpsman took on an apprentice. I joined Roa’ka’nar for those years as he trained me to fight against the Reds and the Black Lanterns. During our last day together, I was separated from Roa’ka’nar by a dimensional vortex. Though I’m in a different world, it’s still the same Tokyo I grew up in, mostly. As long as there’s hope here, there’s still a charge in my power battery...
My name is...
Gentaro Kisaragi, also known as Switch-1.
Seven years ago, The Zodiac Alliance descended on Earth. They came to force humans to evolve to a higher power, by giving them a taste of “Star Blood.” But before them came the Yuujou Switch, a device that drew power from people’s bonds of friendship. On countless other worlds, the Zodiac Alliance had been driven back by warriors of great friendship using the power of the Yuujou Switch, and our world was no different. Okay, maybe a bit different. My own belief in the power of friendship granted me and my friends the power to transform into Yuujou Sentai Switchman, and we took the fight to the Zodiac Alliance. During a fight with Commander Libra, I found myself and my mecha, the Rabbit Racer, sent to another world. There are others here like me. Maybe I can be their friend and fight alongside them until I get home. I hope my team is ok…
My name is…
Gentaro Kisaragi, though the rest of the world knows me as the Pro Hero Fourze.
Though I may not be at his level, I fought alongside All-Might in a few encounters. But my power source isn’t like his. You see, each time I create a genuine, lasting friendship, my power increases by four. Four extra feet per jump, four extra seconds to take a beating, four extra miles per hour, four extra pounds of weight. I have over two hundred friends, and I’m looking to make a thousand. Not because I want to be more powerful, but because I just want more friends.
When the portal appeared, I had put myself between it and a villain I was trying to save. The last thing I heard was that villain saying “He really did care about me..” I hope I can get back home and find that guy. I really want to be his friend.
My name is…
Gentaro Kisaragi. I’m a graduate of Mahoutokoro Magical Academy, and I work as a private eye.
Did someone get lost in the Nevernever? I’ll find them. Does some Black Court vampire need a punch in the mouth? I’m your guy. I use my magic to get the job done, and my hands to make your life better than when I found it. Everyone I’ve helped has stayed in touch and referred me to other cases, so I’m never hard up for work. One day, I finished up a case and found myself staring into a cloud of mist. I heard a woman’s voice coming from the mist. She said “Follow me, there are people that need your help.” Of course, I followed her towards the portal. This new version of Tokyo is different from what I’m used to, but magic still follows the same rules here, mostly...
My name is…
Gentaro Kisaragi. I’m a Pokemon trainer from Mistralton City. But I don’t go out and catch Pokemon after harsh battles. Whether they’re lost, abandoned or mistreated by their original trainers, I nurse them back to health and give them a spot in my team. Right now, I have an Arcanine named Queen, a Swanna, a Gothorita, a Porygon named Gigabyte, and an Ivysaur that seems to have adopted me, and comes and goes as she pleases. She was with me when the portal opened, so I have that going for me. But now I’m in a world with no Pokemon except the ones I brought with me. I’m kind of scared, to be honest.
My name is…
Shinyu Kisaragi. I’m Sixteen years old, and can I tell you a secret? I’m a legendary warrior.
I know, it’s weird to think that a girl dressed like a punk rocker could be a force of pure magic, but it’s true! During a field trip to the observatory, my classmates and I watched as a geologist cracked open a meteorite. The inside of it glowed, and we found ourselves in a different place. Right in front of us was a massive spider web made up of gold and silver threads. A really pretty boy named Kengo appeared from the web and told us we were looking at the Bonds of Life, how everything in the universe was connected. Off on the edges of the web, lines were being snapped. Kengo told us that a great enemy calling themselves Threadbare were working to break apart people’s connections to each other. As each person was severed from those ties, they fell into darkness. Kengo gave us each a Star Switch and told us that when the time came, we could transform into the Soul Bond Pretty Cure. Well, I did transform into Cure Friendship and it was so awesome. Now if only my costume wasn’t so frilly. I’m in another version of Tokyo now, and I know that my friends are still out there. I can feel them in the Bonds of Life but who are these other people I sense…
---
Welcome to an AU RP, inspired heavily by and cribbed directly from “Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse.” If you haven’t yet seen this movie, do so as soon as possible.
In this AU, Every other version of Gentaro I have dabbled in, and some I haven’t, have found their way to this reality. But being in a different plane of reality causes their bodies to glitch out in painful ways. It’s this reality’s way of saying “You don’t belong here.” They want to get home as soon as possible, but once they’re made aware of one of their own number being missing, they’ll do whatever it takes to help Gentaro come back.
In order to return the other Gentaros to their home universe and reclaim this universe’s Gentaro from The Void, the heroes who take part in this will have to find the other Gentaro’s and bring them to the one place where a Rider can open a dimensional gate: The Hikari Photo Studio, base of operations for Kamen Rider Decade.
But the heroes aren’t alone. Some of them have brought enemies with them, and the Shocker organization that created the original multidimensional gate will stop at nothing to prevent Fourze from returning.
If you’re interested in taking part in this, give this thread a like and tell me in the comments which AU Gentaro you want to do threads with, or if you want Multiple Gentaros for a thread. Then we can plot the adventure as it takes turns and curves Through the Riderverse.

New school year
So lately I haven't been much in a drawing mood, I'm going a bit through an art block but I still had a lot of ideas for the Next Gen AU so I decided to write things down. I'm very sorry for my bad English (it's not my first language, and Grammarly can't fix everything)
A few things before we start.
Hinata has all of Izuru's talents since they co-exist in the same body (but Izuru is mainly asleep since he finds everything tedious)
Komaeda is a teacher at the New Hope's Peak (build by Makoto) and it the teacher of the 90th class (lastest class to enter the school)
Before the New Hope's Peak opened the cast of danganronpa 2 worked at a rehabilitation center in Jabberwock island where the cast of v3 was taking after waking up from the killing game simulator, for more info of the AU look here
The start of a new school never was easy, especially since Komaeda's former homeroom had graduated. It made him proud seeing his old student go out into the world and spreading hope where it was desperately needed it.
The world's recovery from the tragedy was quite admirably, but there was still much work needed. There still was a big number of remnants of despair trying to throw everything back to despair. Everyone is working so hard to end it once and for all. That thought brought him to Hajime, he was currently overseas at one of the many Future Foundation bases, a big natural disaster destroyed most of it and they needed all the help they could get, with Hajime's many talents it would make thing easier.
I wonder how long Hajime will say there? I hope he will be home before Sachiko's birthday
Sitting at his desk, the white-haired man looked once again at the list of his new homeroom, some names jump at his attention mainly because their last names ring a bell. Komaeda helped their parents at the rehabilitation center, right after they were saved from the remnants of despair, many years ago.
Daisuke Amami - Ultimate Pianist Hakura Amami - Ultimate Roller Figure Skating Pro
He personally knew the twins. Ever since his daughter started dating the oldest of the Amami sisters he had been eating out with their family quite often. It was always a good time since it served mostly for both Komaeda and Rantaro to catch up. (They became good friends many years ago at the rehabilitation center). The twins mainly sat in the background, too entertained with them self. That didn't mean that they were anti-social, quite the opposite.
Haruka would take every opportunity she could to steal Sachiko away from the families meeting to talk to her about mostly private thing. Once his daughter told him that the teenager saw her as her "gay guru", which make him chuckle a bit inside. Haruka was extremely known for her competitive nature, what makes sense since she was always traveling around the world for competitions and from what Kaede has told him her coach really drive that behavior. Daichi, on the other hand, was more reserved. He preferred listening instead of talking. Always with a piece of paper and a pen with him for when he would have a sudden blow of inspiration and start to write down a new melody. Once he got into that mood it was almost impossible to get him out of it. There was this one time where both families had to stay an extra hour at a dinner because no one could get him to get up. The twins were extremely close, balancing each other out. Haruka would always be backstage supporting her bother and giving him a pep talk before every show but also making sure he wouldn't stay too long on the piano. Daichi would compose every single one of his sister performance, always giving his best to put into the music what his sister had in vision. He also serves as a calming presence when she was feeling defeated or enraged due to her competitions. He would also make sure Haruka didn't train too much and would get the rest she needed. It still was a bit unbelievable that he would now be their teacher, especially considering that neither of the twins seemed to like him that much.
Tsubasa Iruma - Ultimate Pop Idol
It didn't take him long to identify the student in question. She was not only the daughter of the most obscene woman he ever knew but as well japan's sweetheart. Komaeda could almost hear her voice in his head reciting her famous catchphrase:
- "Known by many and loved by even more, it's your sweetheart tsu-tsu-basa!"
He had heard some of her songs mainly due to his daughter being quite fond of them and they were constantly on the radio. Tsubasa success was almost instantly if you take into consideration that her carer only started a year ago, after winning a popular idol contest. And it was even more admirable that she is the first robot idol. There were a lot of people that initially protested against the idea of an artificial idol but quickly warmed once they listened to her tunes and saw, what they called, the human heart behind it. Most of her fans adore her music for the fact that they're all self-written and that their touch and encourage their heart. Giving them the hope to keep fighting in a world that didn't seem to care. She was truly a symbol of hope for her fanbase.
Yasu Chabashira - Ultimate Fashion Designer
Chabashira was a name that always brought a chill down his spine. He remembers Yasu mother awfully well, she had multiple times threaten him to kick his ass while they were at the rehabilitation center. And if it hadn't been for Nekomaru and Akane she would have murdered him when Mikan felt on him. But besides that, he didn't really know much about the young man that was Tenko's youngest son. His older brother Akio Chabashira was in Nekomaru's homeroom, he is known for being extremely assertive and having the most obvious crush on the student council president (most of the school found it out the day he was rejected and spend almost a week sulking like a puppy) but there wasn't much about the younger brother, most interviews Komaeda could find were always about his fashion and they talk next to nothing about his personality or background. Yasu never answers any kind of personal questions, even when they were about his latest inspiration he would hesitate.
Yamato Ouma - Ultimate Strategist
Komaeda had mixed feelings about this student, he knew his parents particularly well. Shuichi Saihara was one of Hajime's co-workers. So he would hear from his husband about the crazy histories the other would tell him, about his son many, many, pranks. Considering that his other father was Kokichi Ouma he wasn't at all surprised, but then again, he read Yamato's report card and the many articles written about him. And from all of those, he seemed like a serious and analytical young man. Maybe he was more like his older sister, Hanaka Ouma, then he thought. But then again from what Hajime told him about Saihara's histories, the two siblings were like night and day. The white-haired man hoped that maybe with another Ouma at New Hope's Peak there would bring even more improvement. After all, the year Hanaka entered New Hope's Peak she not only uncovered the ill intention of the former student council president, as well won the new election and helped in a better understanding between the students and the working staff, which could only be done with someone with a talent as amazing as Ultimate Club President. Komaeda looks out of the window, the sun was setting. Who knew what the future had in plan for him, he thought to himself. The only thing he was sure of is that his new class had a big potential of becoming the next symbols of hope

Professional Status
Occupation:
1st Year student at Ryoutei Academy
Affiliation:
Slave of the Ayashii Household (formerly)
1st Year student at Ryoutei Academy
Personal Status
Relatives:
Tsubaki Senshi (deceased mother)
Sora Senshi (deceased father)
Shin Tsukinami (Love interest/ Future Husband)
Tsubasa Tsukinami (step-son)
Hana Tsukinami (deceased step-daughter)
Hobbies: Being a former slave for the Ayashii's, Mika didn't have much time for herself, since she was forced to do the Ayashii's family bidding and dirty work. Though after the death of Krone and Giesbach, she had much more time to herself and if she isn't hanging around with Shin, she'll either be doing:
Knitting
Cooking (Shin usually forces her to make nuts for him)
Dancing
Taking long walks in the Forest
Favorite Food: Ramen Noodles
Personality: Mika is often cynical of people that give her affection/care, she has hard time trusting those kind of people (she has hard time trusting people in general), and believes that they're trying to use her for their own selfish gain. It takes awhile to fully gain her trust, though if someone did gain her trust, she'll be forever loyal to them and will open up more, without hesitation. She often jumps to conclusions without any concrete evidence or support and usually assumes things based off her opinions, which usually gets her in trouble. She is a bit of hypocrite, she wants people to rely on her, whenever they have a problem because to her, being relied on, means people genuinely care about her opinion and thoughts. But when it comes to her own problems, she keeps them locked up and keeps it to herself because she doesn't want to be a burden on anybody else, but if the roles switch, she'll feel hurt and upset, she'll think, she's not worth their time.
Strengths: |Loyal to the bone| Honest| Patient| Hardworking| Always eager to learn new things|
Flaws: |If she gets too close to someone she'll be obsessive/possessive over that someone| Somewhat insecure of herself| Keeps her problems/thoughts to herself| Self-sacrificing| Doesn't think before she speaks| A bit of a hypocrite| Naive|
Brief History:
The Senshi's family for generations, were slaves, usually owned by rich purebloods, Mika was no exception. Her former owner, that she's been serving for the majority of her life had died in a tragic accident, it was stated in her former owner memoir, she will be sent to Japan to serve, an old collie of his. It turned out this old collie of his was none other than Krone Tsukinami. After a year of living with them, Krone and Giesbach, both died of Endzeit, since both of her owners were dead, Carla and Shin, originally wanted to get rid of her, since the contract was broken and the memoir, did not apply to her anymore, though Shin took notice of the quality of her blood, he noted it was nothing like the ordinary human blood, and so he decided that she was worth their time. With a bit of persuasion from Shin part, Carla agreed to let Mika stay, (not as a slave but as a servant), and so the investigation about her bloodline begins.
Relationships: Tsukinami's Household:
Krone Tsukinami: Mika expected Krone to be as cruel and hot-headed, just as her previous owner, though she was surprise, that wasn't the case. Even though Krone wasn't mentally prepared to take care of her because she had own problems with Giesbach, Mika was glad for the little time, they spent together. Mika thought of Krone as a motherly figure, even so she forced herself to get out of Krone hair, as much as possible, she didn't want to be a burden on her since she had enough problems with Giesbach.
Carla Tsukinami: Mika is intimated by Carla presence, she always wonder what is he thinking behind his cold stare but never dares ask. Even though they don't really interact much, Mika respects Carla, and she is grateful that he let her stay, but even so she does her best to avoid him and stay in his good side.
Shin Tsukinami: From the very first moment, they met, she felt an unsettling vibe coming from him, a vibe that reminded her a lot like her previous owner. She saw some similarities that Shin and her previous owner had, because of that she began to fear, he'll treat her the same way, her previous owner did. So she tried her best to satisfy his needs without complaint, so he won't feel the need to get rid of her. Though as she spend more time with him, she realized how much they had in common, her fear slowly started to fade as she uncovered the good things about him.
Trivia:
Being a slave for the majority of her life, she wasn't allowed to go outside or learn new things about the world, her masters didn't want a clever slave, or else they'll found a way to escape, so they usually forbid them from learning new subjects (which is the reason why, even though Mika is 17 years old, she was put in 1st year because of how uneducated she was)
Mika tries to be very patient, when speaking to others, and for the most part, she does a good job, she can handle most Shin shenanigans but the tiniest of things could set her off
Most of her clothes, that she knits, are usually worn by Shin in wolf form, mostly because Mika always begs him to wear them and even though he always threaten that one day, he'll chew them up, he always grudgingly ends up wearing them

Bookshelf Briefs 11/28/17
It’s a cornucopia of briefs!
Ace of the Diamond, Vol. 6 | By Yuji Terjima | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – Training camp continues, and the coach has arranged for some practice games right afterwards, the better to gauge how well the first years play when exhausted. For Furuya, the answer is initially “not well,” but he never loses his determination, and once he swallows his pride and asks Miyuki for advice, finally internalizes the truth that, at Seido, he’s got teammates who are going to back him up, even if the batter does manage to get a hit. Eijun’s fun and everything, but Furuya is not your typical shounen protagonist, and I’m pleased that he’s getting his share of attention. I also liked that the boys hang out some with varsity teammates we’ve barely glimpsed, and we learn how awesome the captain is. I am already relishing the thought of future marathon rereads of this series. It’s a keeper for sure. – Michelle Smith
Cells at Work!, Vol. 5 | By Akane Shimizu | Kodansha Comics – Once again, Red Blood Cell is absent from this volume except a brief cameo. This allows us to focus our attention on the ‘normal cell’ from prior volumes, who still has a tendency to do dumb things on impulse. Fortunately, the cute adorable bacteria he’s harboring in his room are the GOOD kind of bacteria. Unfortunately, his attempt to get them to where they can do good is thwarted by a host of crises from which White Blood Cell and company must rescue him, most notably the return of Cancer Cell, who brings back the ethical ambiguity to the series as he asks essentially “are the needs of the many less important than the needs of the one?” The one being the body. This was a lot of fun. – Sean Gaffney
Delicious in Dungeon, Vol. 3 | By Ryoko Kui| Yen Press – The cast expands a bit in this third volume. We see one of our team’s old comrades, who left them due to actually wanting to get paid, and the complicated relationship she has with them, particularly Marcille, and it’s made clear she’s not a bad guy—everyone has their own needs and drives. As for Marcille, we also get a flashback to her school days, which shows how she met Laios’ sister (still being digested by a dragon, if you recall), which is rather cute. And of course more ridiculously gross yet amusing monster recipes. And plenty of humor, as it turns out tentacles can be peeled sort of like bananas. Still good, though I’d like to get the sister rescued or declare her dead. – Sean Gaffney
The Full-Time Wife Escapist, Vol. 6 | By Tsunami Umino | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – It was inevitable that Mikuri and Hiramasa would discover that they are in love with each other, but I am still kind of surprised that it actually happened. It’s lovely to see him grinning like a doofus at the office after an evening of fooling around, but I appreciate that the transition into a real marriage isn’t exactly going to be smooth. Mikuri is worried, for example, that she’ll be expected to do the same amount of work for free, while Hiramasa worries about his waning sex drive. Somehow I doubt we’ll ever see the latter issue addressed Everyone’s Getting Married! I also really enjoyed the scenes where Mikuri’s aunt and Kazami get to know each other better—I wholeheartedly approve of them hooking up! – Michelle Smith
Haikyu!!, Vol. 17 | By Haruichi Furudate | Viz Media – And so our heroes pull it off, and get to advance, while Aoba Johsai has to suffer an ignominious defeat. This is done in the best possible shonen way, with lots of noble tears and resolve to get even stronger. The cliches don’t FEEL like cliches—the author is adept at making this feel fresh even when you know where every plot beat is going to be. And so it’s on to the finals, and I suspect this game may drag on a while, as it’s a best 3-sets-of-5 game. Their opponent is Shiratorizawa, who I’m sure we’ll find out more about as we move on, but who clearly have one player who’s REALLY good, and the volume ends with our heroes down by quite a bit. I think they’ll come back, though. Just a hunch. – Sean Gaffney
Hana & Hina After School, Vol. 3 | By Milk Morinaga | Seven Seas – This turns out to be the final volume, and honestly you get the sense it was cut a bit short—the last half feels rushed. Of course, considering all we were getting before that was a slow-burning pile of angst, it might be best that it got the push. Morinaga Milk has always been better at fluffy than angsty, so it comes as something of a relief when our two heroines finally get over the whole “is it just me? Did she mean it when she said she’s not that way?” drama and get together (in all respects—as with previous MM titles, there’s a brief, not-that-explicit sex scene here). In the end, this was a cute read, but I’ve seen better yuri from this author. – Sean Gaffney
Horimiya, Vol. 9 | By Hero and Daisuke Hagiwara | Yen Press – Horimiya has always tried to be at least slightly more realistic than a lot of romance manga, and thus watching Yuki’s ongoing angst regarding her lies and deceit and how it’s impacting other people is particularly painful. I’m not really all that sure I want her to win here, even though the alternative will also suck. On the bright side, Hori and Morimiya are doing better than ever, and as Hori is forced to think about her future—something which she seemed to have given not a single thought to—but she realizes here that no matter what she does, she wants to be with Miyamura. This leads to a sort of adorable reverse proposal, which fits the general characterization. Still good, but I hope it’s wrapping up soon. – Sean Gaffney
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Vol. 5 | By Hirohiko Araki | Viz Media And so, finally, JoJo’s has run up against my ability to get 500+ words out of each volume. Yes, this is the first volume to get a Brief rather than a full review, and I put the blame entirely on the rambling Road To Cairo plot that Araki has chosen to use this time around. Individual moments are as striking as ever—I felt the killer baby was more interesting as a killer within dreams than in the real world, and the surprise non-death of a character feels a bit cheap. But JoJo’s still has its bizarre visuals and grotesque violence, and as long as it keeps that up it should stay interesting, even if Jotaru continues to be the dullest Jo we’ve had to date. – Sean Gaffney
Kiss & White Lily for My Dearest Girl, Vol. 4 | By Canno | Yen Press – Most sports manga fail to show the heroes moving on to a professional career, with a few exceptions like Captain Tsubasa. In reality, a lot of sports careers end just the way we see Mizuki’s end here—she comes close to the Nationals, but doesn’t make it, and realizes that this is it, she has to stop doing track and decide on an actual career. There’s also her relationship with Moe, which may actually be hindering her for a spell—it’s gotten to the point where she forgets running was fun—but eventually proves stronger than both thought, and we get a proposal (of sorts) and a kiss. This is a bit stronger than Hana & Hina, even if it’s just as fluffy, and I’m pleased to see it continue. – Sean Gaffney
Log Horizon: The West Wind Brigade, Vol. 7 | By Koyuki and Mamare Touno | Yen Press – The comedy is kept to a minimum here, as we get the more dramatic parts of the third and fourth novel, intermixed with how it’s affecting the West Wind Brigade. Kawara’s on the cover, and we get a bit more insight into her character—basically, she’s an instinctual fighter but a bit of an idiot who got into the game because she wanted to be a shonen hero, and the West Wind Brigade was the only one that would take her in. It does also show off her strengths as well, though. That said, easily the most interesting part is the ending, where we get a surprise appearance by a seemingly insane Nureha, who’s met by a battle-crazy Soujiro. I want to see how this battle turns out. – Sean Gaffney
My Hero Academia, Vol. 10 | By Kohei Horikoshi | Viz Media – I appreciate that Horikoshi is willing to let Bakugo be a completely unlikable jerk, driven by rage and jealousy and every single negative emotion, and yet still show that he realizes the difference between good and evil—that he’s decided that he wants to be a HERO rather than a villain, even if that means going against what comes more naturally. It’s a terrific scene that really made me like him. On the flip side, the disguises used to infiltrate Evil HQ are hilarious, particularly Deku and Momo. The humor is needed, as this is something of a grim arc, especially with the arrival of a Bigger Bad towards the end. This volume shows off everything that has made this the hot new Jump title. – Sean Gaffney
Nisekoi: False Love, Vol. 24 | By Naoshi Komi | Viz Media – Even though it’s obvious Onodera’s going to lose, give credit to the author for not making it easy. She and Raku have really developed a close relationship, and even if it’s not romantic I hope they can stay friends. More to the point, the fact that Onodera is willing to help Raku track down Chitoge by FLYING TO AMERICA with him (because Chitoge has, like many tsundere heroines in denial, literally run halfway across the Earth to escape her love issues) shows off her truly ridiculous kindness. There’s the last popularity poll in this book, and Chitoge and Onodera are separated by barely 100 votes. That’s impressive for a harem title. In any case, it wraps up next time, so keep reading. – Sean Gaffney
One Piece, Vol. 84 | By Eiichiro Oda | VIZ Media – It’s been a while since we had a volume that focused on further sad backstory for one of the Straw Hat crew, but that’s what we get here, with many hard-to-read scenes about Sanji’s abuse at the hands of his family, intercut with a silly fight in which Luffy defeats a bunch of cracker soldiers by eating them. Because Big Mom is threatening to kill Chef Zeff if he doesn’t comply, Sanji is forced to both insult and attack Luffy in an attempt to get him to abort the rescue, but of course this doesn’t work. In addition to this riveting drama, there’s also the question of whether Pudding (Sanji’s seemingly sympathetic bride-to-be) can actually be trusted, more information about the ponegliffs (yay!), and a glimpse at the unintended consequences of toppling Doflamingo. Plus, Brook actually gets something important to do! This series is still excellent. – Michelle Smith
