End Game MV part 3: London/TS

Hey look at that, I’m finally getting around to this! I wonder if anyone cares anymore. But the fandom is so starved for content I figured, why not? Prepare yourself for lots of reaching.

Its been 3 months if you can believe it!

I have changed my opinion on a few things in those posts, and forgot to put in a few details, but I’ll just let the posts stand as they were. This portion of the video continues the theme of quick cuts and costume changes which make any kind of linear story line difficult to follow, so I’ve put it together in a way that hopefully is easier.

Summary: London/Taylor Swift: There are 10 scenes/locations in this last section of the video:

1) House party (rainbow dress, Ed is there)

2) Alley

3) Bar (with the Big Reputation toast)

4) Pub/Club (TS “truth from my red lips *wink*)

5) Dressing room (blowing bubbles, with necklace)

6) Room with a view of London skyline (same as the beginning pulling back the curtain scene)

7) Double Decker bus

8) Kebab shop

9) Taxi

10) Millennium Bridge

At the the house party here is what we see: It appears to be midnight on New Years, indicated by the celebration, toasting, kissing, and fireworks. TS kisses the tall woman from Tokyo first (again suggesting a love interest) then another woman. Both on the cheek. TS is wearing a rainbow sequined dress, similar to the one in the in the reputation magazine (same collection, slightly different dress.) She is also wearing large heart-shaped earrings. Ed is at the party. It appears that there are others from the Tokyo scene there too, though it is difficult to tell with the quick cuts, different outfits, hats, etc... Two men and Two woman are wearing paper crowns. As the party continues, we see retro 80s style gadgets, including a Walkman, video camera and Rubik’s cube. A balloon is being batted around. Later, TS is seen sitting on top of a bar/table, playing an old hand-held game of snake. A woman feeds her a drink.

The house party scene is interrupted repeatedly with flashes to a scene in an alley. This scene has a completely different vibe from the party scene, with everyone looking sullen/serious. We see TS surrounded by a man and 5 women, some look like they may be the same as characters we’ve seen in Tokyo and the house party. It looks like Big Ben can be seen in the background, so we’re still in London. In the first shot of this scene, it’s a close up and a blurry figure can be seen in the background, leaning against the brick wall. Tall woman from Tokyo and the party is there standing close behind TS. As the camera pulls out, the figure in the background is seen a bit more clearly, it looks like a tall blond woman. Not much happens in this scene and we don’t return to it later in this section of the video.

The next scene that is flashed to from the party scene is at a pub, where TS and others are ordering drinks at the bar. Again, we see some of the same cast of characters from the house party and possibly Tokyo. TS stands up on something and makes a toast (singing “Big reputation”.)

The next scene is in a pub/bar/club (could be same as above, but different night) where TS starts singing her verse and her friends are sitting around her on couches. Again, Tall Woman is there and others from other scenes. TS sings “Here’s the truth from my red lips” while wearing nude lipstick and winking and drinking from a straw.

From the pub toast scene, we get our first flash to the dressing room scene with TS in a robe, blowing bubbles, surrounded by luggage (baggage). There is also a flash to Future as he sings back-up on the chorus, and the bubbles float past him, indicating the bench he is sitting on is in the same location as the dressing room (I discussed this at length in part 1). In other words, in Miami, not London.

From the bar scenes, we flash to the double decker bus. TS is hanging out dancing, singing with 3 female friends. They are people we’ve seen before, but Tall woman is not there. London scenes in the background and fireworks going off in the sky.

Also from the bar scene, we flash to TS on the Millennium bridge, alone.

From the scene at the party where she is playing snake, there is a quick flash to her looking out the window at the London Eye, from the location at the beginning of the video where she pulls back the curtain.

We flash to the kabob shop. Again she is with at least some of the same cast of characters from previous scenes, and it appears some new friends. Tall Woman is there. They are having a lot of fun. There is a dog that looks like the dog from the Bad blood video.

Finally we see TS looking out a taxi window, reminiscent of the scene at the end of the Wildest Dreams video.

The end of the video quickly flashes back and forth between most of these scenes (not the alley) and ends with TS with her arms spread wide on the Millennium bridge.

These are the lyrics from TS’ verse:

Analysis: I would argue that nothing here is showing real events that happened as they happened (in other words, this does not represent an actual NYE that occurred, nor an actual trip to a kabob shop,) and that each scene is symbolic of things that were happening during a period of time in TS’ life, much like in Tokyo. I propose that the reason it is set in London is because that is the location of the 2014 VSFS where Kaylor glass closeting peaked. Obviously we are supposed to think this represents her time there with Joe, but everything else in the video suggests an earlier, gayer time (and the only reference to Joe is the necklace she is wearing while in a closet in Miami.) Ed is there because he was at the show as a performer and of course he is her friend. The large heart-shaped earrings are reminiscent of the Klossy heart. The timing of the London section of the video would be Nov 2014 to later in the 1989 era, probably all the way through to fall 2016. The Tall Woman again represents KK and the recurring cast of characters from Tokyo and London are her friends and show how much fun she was having in this period.

At the party TS is wearing her rainbow dress to represent the peak glass closeting period in 2014 when she was being as open as she could be about her relationship with KK at that time. As the party continues, the retro gadgets show us we’re in the 1989 era. She has lots of friends and has lots of fun.

The scene in the alley represents the aftermath of kissgate. KK (lookalike leaning on the brick wall in the background) had to step back into the shadows. They are being supported by a few close friends and the guy may represent having to get a new beard (CH). KK’s still there, having TS’ back, but the rainbow dress is gone for good after that. The scenes at the bars and kabob shop represent her still hanging out with her friends and the KK stand-in is there, but they are never sitting next to each other again like they did at the party and in Tokyo, and certainly not kissing. And the scene on the bus, shows her hanging out with other friends, not KK because they are out in public, exposed to the world. The kabob shop scene may represent the Bad Blood music video (the dog is the clue there.) She’s having fun with the squad while filming it. And just as a funny aside, TS look a little like the kookie monster in that jacket.

Now, much has been made about the “Here’s the truth from my red lips” while wearing nude lipstick bit. TS liked more than one post pointing out this little tidbit (including one from a kaylor blog,) so I think it’s important. But I think you have to look at the line before it “You’ve been calling my bluff on all my usual tricks.” If you read the lyrics to her verse, she is talking a bit about her relationship, but mostly about her reputation, so she may be talking to us here (the audience, media, general public, fans), and is referring to her bearding and how everyone figured out TH was fake, and by not wearing red lipstick she’s basically saying, “yep I am not always telling the complete truth” *wink*.

A few other things to throw out there: two men at the party are wearing paper crowns, do they represent beards (jokers dressing up as kings?) There are also two girls wearing crowns. The scene of her in the taxi is reminiscent of the Wildest Dreams MV. Interesting since I think that song is about the beginnings of her relationship with KK. And of course the scene on the bridge is reminiscent of Begin Again. This could represent the end of the squad period (fall 2016) as well as just showing her coming out of mid 2016 stronger, confident, and better than she ever was.
