Hello! The first works have been revealed. The rest will go up 3-4 at a time each day for the next week or so to give some of our writers time to finish up their prompts! If your writer’s extension falls outside of the seven-day time frame, I’ll dm you privately, otherwise, expect to see your gift posted sometime in the next week! 

Please go kudos and comment to show support to all of the wonderful people who’ve taken the time to write these prompts! And be sure to thank your writer!!

Final Works Update

Short-sighted on my part not to account for how drop-outs and general management would impact when things are uploaded. Works will begin to be revealed August 30 but not all at once, the reveals will span over a week’s time, and then some to account for those who are working with an extension. 

You will be privately notified if the writer of your prompt has an extension. If we have last minute drop-outs, I promise your prompt will still be filled but it may be posted a little later.

Many apologies and also many thanks to those of you who have already submitted and those who are still working hard! Thank you for your understanding!

Publishing on AO3

You will be uploading to our moderated and unrevealed (works will not be viewable until we make them which will be August 30) ao3 collection titled: Top Gun: Maverick Fic Exchange

Before making any uploads, please let the mods know you have completed your fic. We will provide you with your prompter’s ao3 user so that you may upload it as a gift to them. 

Open the collection here. 

Click “Post to Collection”

Fill out each required field, add your tags, and add your work text. 

Be sure to enter your prompter’s ao3 username in the second line under the Associations category. 

Click post to complete

*If you are someone who writes directly in ao3 (instead of using a google/word doc) you can type ‘tgm_ficexchange’ in the ‘Post to Collections / Challenges’ category directly above the ‘Gift this work to’ option. This will add your work to the collection when you upload.

If you have uploaded to ao3 before, it’s essentially the same process. If you do not see your work posted right away, don’t worry, it may take a couple days until we get around to approving it (it will still remain unrevealed until August 30*). When your writer uploads, you will be able to see you’ve been gifted a work but not the user or the work itself. 

Hopefully this covers everything, reach out to us if there’s any confusion and we’ll do our best to clear it up!

Thank you again to all of our lovely participants! We’ve sent out everyone’s prompt. If you’re curious, our participant count at the moment is 44! 

Sometime in the next couple of days, we will be making a post on how/where you’ll upload your finished fics to ao3. In the meantime, if you have not yet confirmed with us that you have received your prompt, please do so!

In the next week, after all prompts are matched, we will be posting more on how to publish your finished fic to ao3.

A reminder that you do not need to submit a super specific prompt! An AU, a single scene, or a vague premise are all acceptable prompts!

Rules

General 

- When you sign-up, you are signing up both to prompt and write a prompt.

- There will be a minimum word count of 1,000 words. If you are having trouble meeting this or need more time, please dm the mods on this account. 

- Finished works should be uploaded to the ao3 TG:M Fic Exchange Collection by August 29. If you do not already have an ao3 account please reach out to us. 

- We will make the full prompt list viewable after the final works are posted. If by the end of the exchange, someone has dropped out or a prompt was not assigned and you would like to write it, contact the prompter and ask if you can fill it for them!

- If for whatever reason, you want/need to drop out, please contact the mods.

- It’s cheesy, but please have fun! This is not meant to stress you out or ruin your life.

Prompting/Writing

- To make everyone’s life easier, we will not be accepting prompts that fall under any of ao3′s archive warnings. 

- When you prompt, please allow room for the writer to work with it and make it their own. 

- You are required to submit one prompt but may submit a second if you so desire. Please be aware that depending on pool size and demand, both of your prompts my find a match, or only one. 

- Regardless of the number you submit, you will only be given one prompt and you must follow the prompt you are given, so be honest on the form below because we will use your answers to avoid assigning prompts you may not be comfortable writing. And kindly do not complain about your assigned prompt. Another participant who sees won’t know if it’s their prompt you’re complaining about but be hurt nonetheless.

Welcome!

We’re hosting a fic exchange for all things Top Gun: Maverick! If you’ve never participated in an exchange, here’s a little on how it will work: when you sign up, you will submit a prompt to be written and receive a prompt to write. At or before the deadline, you’ll upload your final product to Archive of Our Own under our collection that we will be moderating.

Sign-ups are closed now but you are welcome to follow for updates regarding when and where the final works will be posted. The writing duration of this event will be 4 weeks, from July 31 - August 29. Participants will receive their match between July 30 and 31!
