[OPINION] The Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies is annoyingly worth it.

The new Expansion Pack for The Sims 4 is annoyingly worth it because it includes many key features I find similar to those in other expansion packs.

If you don't own those packs—good for you! You can enjoy a functionality that previously existed across 3 different expansion packs!

However, if you do own them, this article might disappoint you.

These are the top 3 key features I've found similarities with:

Running a Business - This is a functionality that was already implemented in the game. The only major change is that if you own Get to Work expension pack your business will be located in a separate lot, whereas in "Businesses & Hobbies" you can run it from home. However, if you do own Get to Work you can imitate this "home business" functionality by purchasing a small & empty lot for living, and creating a separate space within your retail lot for your sims to live in, and then lock the door to this space to 'household members only'. I personally do it all the time.

Separated Builds in the Same Lot System - It is visually obvious that the sims team reused the system they built for the For Rent expansion pack. In Business & Hobbies it is implemented even better, because you can navigate between your separate builds (which are your "businesses") without any loading screens.

Coffee Bar - Till now, if you wanted to have a coffee bar, you had to own the Get Together expension pack, which I already marked as one of my least favorite expansion packs I own due to its lack of new gameplay.

This is not the first time EA has done something like that, but it used to include small things / objects only. Like swings for example, you can get them from multiple packs (Seasons EP, Life & Death EP, Island Living EP...)

Surprisingly, we also got some key features for free through events:

Reaper's Rewards Event

We got a coffin, which was also included in Life & Death expension pack, but these were originally introduced in the Vampires game pack.

We also received bikes in this event, which is a functionality that exists in Growing Together expension pack.

The Holidays Event

We got the "Super Dream Cube" which is a gamebox allowing you to play video games in the TV if it's located near a TV. This is another functionality that was already introduced in the City Living expansion pack.

We also got the "Festive Frame TV" which is a TV that looks like a painting but is actually a television. This is a small feature that was originally introduced in The Modern Luxe Kit.

Blast from the Past Event

EA granted us a brand new functionality of an alarm clock that was introduced in the new Comfy Gamer Kit.

"The ElectroDance Floor" is a dance floor with a functionality that used to exist only in the Get Together expension pack (although the idea of dance floors later got implemented in other DLCs like My Wedding Stories game pack, but its animations were different).

And how can we forget the Hot Tub we got for the 20th anniversary of The Sims? At that time, if you wanted a hot tub in your game you had to buy the Perfect Patio stuff pack.

Sims 4 DLC idea: musical instruments pack

So the sims 4 has its share of DLC already, but one thing I haven’t seen yet and haven’t heard many people talk about, is a musical instruments/musician pack. You know how ts3 Late Night let us make actual bands (albeit only rock bands)? I think that’s be a pretty good concept for a sims 4 pack.

In an ideal world, EA will give us a wide variety of instruments as well as different music-related paths for our sims to take. I’m sure they’d give us more guitars, pianos/keyboards and probably a drum kit, though I really hope that they expand beyond just traditional rock band instruments: brass instruments! Woodwinds!

One of the main features of this pack would be the ability to form bands, similarly to how they worked in the sims 3. Additionally, there would be new music-related after school activities for kids and teens to go to - something as simple as a rabbit hole orchestra or band, with an unique uniform. For sims who want to learn piano, guitar, etc., they would be able to have solo lessons with a teacher, either as an after school activity or as individual skill classes. In the end of the week, there could be a recital event where your sim travels to a special venue (concert hall?) to perform in front of an audience.

Aside from playing instruments, your sims could also learn to compose music! The game already has an existing comedy skill that you can raise by composing routines on the computer, and I guess the music composing skill would work similarly - your sim composes music and then they have the ability to perform it afterwards.

I think the least they could do in terms of new careers is add a music teacher career, and maybe a symphony orchestra related career? Your sim could either be a musician or a conductor. Perhaps also a composer or songwriter career?

Most of what I’ve suggested already is very rabbit hole-y, which is honestly fine, especially if they also give us the option to form a band together with other sims. Bands could probably work similarly to how the groups from Get Together work, and gigs/concerts could be a type of social event where you take your band to a venue and have them perform in front of an audience. As far as new venues go, a concert hall would be cool, maybe even a sort of outside festival grounds - like a music festival with stages and food stalls and such???

Anyways those are just my ideas as a musician who would love this type of gameplay in a life sim
