LuLu Lounge Maxis Remodel

Inspired by Studio Town’s very own 82 Sunrise Boulevard (aka Fairchild Film Studios), I bring you my latest Maxis Remodel...LuLu Lounge! I first teased this back in September but I never quite happy with the interior (it is a huge footprint) so I kept trying different ideas and tweaking things. Nonetheless, I finally have declared it “done” and ready to share!

As usual, I did make some architectural changes. The whole building has been extended by one tile, mainly so I could dress up the entrance with two-story doors and a new marquee. The original description said LuLu Lounge offers velvet couches and ambient music, but as I leaned into the Studio Town aesthetic, I wanted something more “old Hollywood.” That meant lots of wood and a little art nouveau styling. The second floor is accessible but largely decorative, but there is a small office above the bathrooms if you want to run it as a business. Everything has been tested in a copy. The uploaded file has never been played. 

There is some CC included in the file, which is outlined below. Because this makeover was inspired by Studio Town, downloading the 1t2 conversions is vital to the lot appearing as shown. Please note that Argon’s seasonal topiares are bundled, so you’ll be getting the set of 5 (Egg, Skyscraper, Pyramid, Llama, and Dolphin). Thank you to the CC creators!

I finished up another lot makeover a couple of days ago and have been using it to get back the feel for taking pictures in-game.  Today’s subject is 64 Gunther Goth Hwy, which is an empty lot in marka93′s recreation of Old Town from TS1.

The original lot costs...?  I forgot to make a note of it but it’s a starter home I think.  My makeover costs 22106, which is still not bad.

Especially considering I added a pool, which my pictures only hint at ‘cause by the time I got to the back of the house I’d lost steam.

The look of the exterior is loosely inspired by some of the one-story stucco compounds I saw in Florida a few years back.

Behind the trellis/pergola is the entry.

The kitchen is small but functional.

Directly off the kitchen is the living room, all set for entertaining a few guests.

Cozy, yet stylish?

The bedroom is behind the door in the picture, the bathroom is behind the door off-camera to the right.

Speaking of off-camera, that’s where the toilet is.  I didn’t do anything fancy or clever with it so I didn’t worry about capturing it.

I do like the sink area a lot, though.  You can see some decoration and the separate shower reflected in the mirror.

a cute pic of cassie playing violin. i feel like i haven’t posted a lot about her lately aside from the witchy lookbook i made for her a few months ago. i have been thinking about doing another one more based on dark academia.

i feel like i should give credit to @simlicy for being an inspiration to cassandra’s makeover. also the room is in a house made by her. i just added the hello dahlia doll by her bed, since i changed their house to a haunted house lot and talking to the doll helps with the scared emotion. 

and yeah i read somewhere that cassie had an imaginary friend named bratty goth in ts1. so i named her doll bratty goth.

Rate in order favorite to least favorite, Sims 1, Sims 2, Sims 3, Sims 4: so i never did play ts1 soo leaving that out it goes sims 3 is top tier for me and then sims 4 (only rated so high because of pretty graphics and the fact that i never did own ts2,, yes you are allowed to throw tomatoes at me and call me a fake)

Favorite expansion: mmmmm for ts4 probably get to work,, when i still enjoyed the game i did have a really fun time with that. for ts3 i never had supernatural or late night as a kid but i got the entire sims 3 collection several months ago (by totally legal means 😉) and those have been a recent favorite (honorable mentions include seasons, university life, and island paradise) 

Small pets or horses: mmmmmmmm if small pets means like the hamsters or whatever then i really dont care for those. i vote horses 

Favorite active career: in ts3 i really loved putting my sims in music for some reason,, i don’t know if i actually have a favorite though. maybe medical? 

Favorite LTW/Aspiration: i’ve been playing with late night townies recently (tenderlove household) and i’ve really enjoyed working toward barry’s master mixologist LTW but as a kid i always liked heartbreaker for the drama

Whims, wishes or wants and fears: probably either wishes or wants and fears, i’m not a huge fan or whims. 

Favorite occult: oh god,, i love a whole lot of them but i’m known to my friends as a werewolf freak so i have to go with them 😭 

Cowplants, Bonehilda or Social Bunny: ahh bonehilda!! i was so excited to play with her for the first time when i got supernatural 

Favorite non-PC Sims game: i’ve never played any of them 😭

Favorite spin off game: never played any of these either 😭 as a kid my family computer was trying to set itself on fire cause it was old and could hardly handle the small amount of packs i had,, so i was never able to play the spinoffs 

How do you pick the names for your Sims: ooh uh i’m super lazy and most of them time i’ll just randomize it in cas until i like it enough.. (unless i already have an idea or am making an already existing oc or something) i used to use nameberry but they changed the layout a little so i don’t really like it anymore 

Create a spouse or find them in game (townies): it really depends. sometimes i’ll just find a great spouse of a sim and just give them a lil makeover but other times i’d rather make them myself. 

Do you prefer following storytelling simblrs or gameplay simblrs: both! but i’m slightly more drawn to story simblrs  

What year did you join simblr: 2017 or 2018 i can’t remember for sure.. i didn’t start posting until 2018 though.

Cassandra Goth or Juliette Capp?

Hi Kristina! Thanks for the ask!

Cassandra Goth! I’ve loved the Goths since TS1, so she’s one of my favorite Pleasantview sims. I do like Juliette, and I think she’s very cute, but I don’t actually know shit about Shakespeare, so a lot of Veronaville is lost on me. I’ve tried to play it a few times, but I just never know what to do with anyone besides doing pretty makeovers.

I am so sorry to be answering this so late, I got the hospital job I applied for which has been amazing but it’s left me with little to no time to do anything sims-related. Anyhow, I was tagged by the ever-thoughtful @hystericallytragicsimmer​! I really appreciate you tagging me and including me in the fun! :)

Your Name: Simblr-wise, I go by Jewel, which is actually one of my many nicknames. Some other notable nicknames I go by (depending on the person) include: Jules, Jay, Gia, and Miley. XD

Languages you speak: English and conversational Spanish, although I’m looking into taking classes to become more fluent.

Are you a mermaid: No, I like my legs too much, haha

Your play style: Primarily chaotic. On my old laptop, I literally had no true “style” and just played however I felt like. Before my laptop died, I began to try to play all of my sims in the order that they were “born” to create a legacy-style-type of play, but the gameplay was sadly lost not long after, although I was able to salvage the sims! ^-^ Now my play style is more rotational, or at least I’m trying to make it that way. I’m currently in the process of giving my families and their homes’ makeovers before I begin to play them, though, and my inner perfectionist is causing it to take forever...

Your selfsim picture: I once made a self-sim for TS2, but it was sadly lost, so I instead share with you all my TS4 self-sim.

Stories or gameplay, builds, lookbooks, edits or cc: I like to make stories for my sims based on gameplay I set up and things they do autonomously. I have some ideas and plans for several stories, but I haven’t found the time or nerve to begin them yet. I also really enjoy making and sharing cc, I love learning new skills.

Your favorite age state: I really enjoy playing all ages, but I suppose I have a newfound love for young adults. That age stage is so underrated and I feel like teens jumping straight to adulthood really miss out.

Your favorite season: Hard to say, I feel all the seasons have something fun to offer, but I probably love Fall the most.

Your favorite holiday: Definitely New Year’s Eve, dancing Baby New Year never fails to crack me up! XD

How was your day: Good, since I was able to catch up on sleep!

Your favorite career:  City Planner! I just like the career reward, haha

Your favorite aspiration: I’m between Family and Pleasure, I actually like pairing them together a lot with primary/secondary aspirations.

Propose a crazy scheme: EAxis realizes how amazing and relevant TS2 still is and creates a huge mega update available on Origin to fix all of the original issues of TS2 and incorporate a bunch of the TS3 and TS4 features and releasing this huge mega update FOR FREE. Schemes can’t get much crazier than that. XD

Best part of simblr: The community; honestly I love seeing other people’s cc and gameplay. It really stokes my own creativity and I love how many people are brought together because of this game.

Worst part of simblr: Well, the worst part of my Simblr, is how difficult it is for me to post regularly. I’m annoyed by my own infrequency, haha

What other games you play: Just Dance, Super Smash Bros., Mario Party, Lego LotR, Mystery games, Poker, Board Games, etc.

I noticed you kept your pre-made sims from your first story basically the same as EA made them. When you go back are you thinking about revamping them? I know it’s a lot of work but seeing how you dress the bc girls and Zayden has me interested in how you would interpret the townies!

You're right, we kept them as they were given to us, and there are a couple of reasons why we've decided to do so :)

We've been playing The Sims saga for so many years (since TS1) and we always had a lot of fun playing with pre-mades, long before we knew CC existed lmao

We got attached to this idea of playing with characters someone else created, because we thought - and still think - that it gives us the chance to test our creativity, and at the same time it makes us step outside our comfort zone and try new things with new types of characters.

The same applies for their appearance! If we changed their appearance we would make them "our style", and that's the opposite of what we want :)

We love the girls of our BC because someone else made them for us! Developing a story with given characters, a lot different from who we are and the characters we would make, is what really arouses our creativity, that's our real style!

So no, apart from a few upgrades (skinblend, eyes, lashes, etc) they will remain the same :) of course they're gonna change a bit as they grow older. We know this isn't everyone's cup of tea but we promise the story is good ✨

We'll probably give them makeovers for fun at some point, but in the story they will remain as they are :)

We're so excited about posting our Pre-mades story again, ahhh 💕 hopefully soon!

1. What kind of CC do you wish you could create that you currently don’t know how to?

This is a big question considering I only recently learned how to do basic recolours! :P  I’d like to learn how to recolour/retexture hair one day, especially because it seems like I’m the only person on the planet who prefers Poppet’s V1 to V2 (though I’m not super picky about all hair having the same textures/colours anymore). I hear people say hairs are pretty easy to do, but it takes time to sit down and learn how to do it, and generally if I have free time, I prefer to spend it playing the game! 

2. If you could add a new vacation destination hood what would it be? No limit as far as there needing to be pre-existing in game content or CC, imagination is the limit here.

Interestingly, I was thinking about this a few months ago. I’d really like to create some kind of “old town” historic European-esque destination with a marketplace, ye olde inn, cobblestone streets definitely a castle, and so on. It would be a fun way to combine some medieval items with a modern game. I might build it one day...if I ever finish up my makeover project of the 3 main destinations. 

3. What is one thing from the other Sims series you wish you could bring into TS2?

I know so little of TS4, but I saw a clip once with shiftable windows and oh boy would that ever be handy! The ability to just scoot over a wall/room from TS3 instead of demolishing and rebuilding would be nice too. Basically any useful and improved building tools, please and thank you. 

4. What’s your least favourite expansion or stuff pack and why?

Pets is the EP I could definitely live without. I like pets, but they don’t really do much, and there isn’t much else in that expansion beyond pet stuff and the quirky atomic furniture...and the room dividers. Probably I would miss those the most. >.> 

Least favourite SP is Family Fun, I think. A lot of the items and outfits are cute, but I don’t use them much.  

5. What is an element of TS2 gameplay that you have never dabbled in (ie: werewolves, private school, blind dates, owned business, etc)?

This is tough because I try to explore as much as possible in the game! I’m sure there are things I haven’t done yet, but I’m drawing blanks. D: I guess I’ve never done some of the "completionist" things, like collecting all vacation memories, getting a top-level Greek house (is there even a top level? I have no idea), and so on. I’ve never achieved some of the numbered LTWs, though I’ve attempted most of them. No 20 lovers, 20 pet friends (most ridiculous LTW, in my opinion), raising 20 puppies/kittens, 5 top businesses, etc. for my Sims! Not yet anyway… :)

6. What kind of CC is the one you can NEVER say no to downloading?

I dunno…I have a lot of self-control! But I always have room for little mods to fix things in the game. Most recently I got excited for the half-wall fix by Nopke and that snow/plant fix by Voeille. 

7. When did you start playing the game, and how?

I started playing TS2 in 2009, which I only know because I had Double Deluxe, and that’s the year it came out. But I played TS1 for some years before that—I’m always behind on the times for video games, but it’s much easier on the wallet. ;) I honestly can’t remember how I got into the game, except that we owned it. I don’t remember where it came from, but I do remember playing TS1 for hours and hours and having so much fun with it...and being a little nervous too! I put a Sim in the Criminal career and was so worried she’d get arrested for it! 

8. When it comes to your Sims, are you more of a nurturer (all their needs are looked after) or a passive watcher (aspiration failure hmm? *munches popcorn*)?

I’m a little of both. I want all my Sims to be happy, but I also love me some drama! Happy lives are great, no doubt about it, but they can be kind of boring if every family is living happily ever after. (Just finished playing one of the most surprising and dramatic rounds I’ve had in a while. It was so much fun, mostly because I had no idea what was going to happen...and it’s not yet resolved, so I have the next round to look forward to as well!) 

9. What are your favourite and least favourite Sim life stages?

Kids are the best! So cute and fun and their interactions are some of my favourites. Babies are my least liked because they don’t do much and are pretty boring. It’s a pity children and toddlers can’t interact with them either. Though now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure kids can “Talk to baby” if an adult holds the baby. Better than nothing, I guess...but not much better. :P  

10. What game mod can you not live without?

I think it’s Pescado’s phone hack that allows talking on the phone for longer than the social meter is full—that’s one of the top 10 for sure, but there are several by multiple modders that have become permanent fixtures in my game—and game-saving super mods go without saying, naturally. Lately I’ve been very dependent on Dolphin’s "Control this Sim" mod to fix dumb mistakes on owned business lots. That’s saved me a lot of growling at the computer screen. :D

Hi anon, if you are referring to my Superstar-inspired Lulu Lounge then thank you! I actually had a request on MTS to do another Studiotown lot but never finished it, for two reasons: first, I lost a lot of progress to a crash and never got the motivation to go back. Second, @philosimy's amazing 1t3 Neighborhood+Studio Town dropped after I started working on it and it made me totally rethink what I wanted to do with the TS1 makeovers. You might inspire me to go back to it, so thank you!

1. Who is your favorite sim, and why?

At the moment it’s Melanie Surana, because she is my heiress for the second generation of ‘Is there life after the blight’ and she is my inquisitor

2. When did you started playing TS3?

I think in 2010 or 2011, it became a huge addiction to me.

3. Have you played any other Sims games before TS3(TS1-2, or The Sims games for consoles)?

I had played the sims 2 with a friend of mine a lot and I used to have the mysims games for my nintendo ds.

4. Do you prefer gameplay or storytelling?

I prefer gameplay

5. Have you marry your sims with EA premades?

Yes I have, but I give them makeovers. I don’t know if that counts.

6. What is your favorite CC?

Definitely hair

7. Do you create a sim based from another fandom and play them?

Yes, I’ve a Dragon Age themed legacy

8. What do you usually do when you feel not inspired to play Sims?

When I’m not inspired to play sims, I’m playing Dragon Age or Pokemon Go or I’m crocheting something.

9. What is your favorite Sims 3 challenge?

My favourite sims 3 challenges are the Midnight Sun Challenge and the Rainbowcy challenge. I actually have some de Pompadour screenshots ready to be queued

10.  What is your main inspiration for your gameplay?

I just have this character in mind for the sim as they develope. I think that’s my inspiration.

Between my own makeovers and those I’ve downloaded, my Downtown is mostly free of ugo, original EA builds. But LuLu Lounge has been staring me in the face for too long. I originally wanted to go grimy/industrial, but living in LA now means I see a lot of Art Deco architecture. So I’m currently going with an Art Deco + TS1 Superstar vibe. Not sure it all works yet, but I like where it is headed.
