Taylor Swift describes herself as "driven." Her mother, Andrea, says she is an "artistic overachiever." Taylor, 12, will sing the national anthem at the United States Open Tennis Tournament on Aug. 31 in New York City. This is not the first time she has sung before thousands of people. She performed the national anthem at a Reading Phillies game and for the Philadelphia 76ers, where more than 20,000 people gave her a standing ovation. A resident of Wyomissing Hills, PA., and Stone Harbor, Swift has been singing since she was very young. This summer, she has been performing most Saturday evenings at Henny's in Stone Harbor. "Taylor has been singing constantly since she could talk," Andrea Swift said. "We would take her to a movie like the 'Little Mermaid,' and she would memorize the songs right away and sing them on the way home." Taylor began her "career" in a school play in second grade. "I knew I wanted to act and sing when I was in that play," she said. "Right after that, I saw an ad for a children's theater company and I auditioned. I got in the company, and in my second play I got a lead role. I love singing more than acting but I like to act because I think it helps with stage presence." Taylor has performed in "Annie" and "The Sound of Music" and had the leads in "Grease" and "West Side Story." She says she is rarely nervous before a performance. "When I see all those people, it's such a rush," she said. "Once I get up there and start singing, I'm fine. I love it." She also enjoys writing and won a national poetry contest last year. She was chosen one of the top ten young poetry writers in Pennsylvania and had her works included in an anthology. She is writing a book about a pre-teen girl and her outlook on life. Taylor is in the drama club and chorus at her school, where she will be in the seventh grade. She also plays volleyball, writes songs and plays the guitar. She will be opening for the Charlie Daniels Band this September in Strausstown, Pa. "Taylor does her own one-hour country music shows and will get up on stage at a moment's notice," Andrea Swift said. "She really is amazing. When it comes to singing the national anthem, the first note to her is critical. It is one of the hardest songs to perform. If you start out with too low a note, you can't do the end of the song. If you start out too high it's the same thing. But Taylor always performs it perfectly." Taylor is so dedicated to her craft that she even sold a horse she had because riding was interfering with her rehearsals. A straight-A student, she remains level-headed about her goals. "I want to get signed with a record company and take it from there," she said. "I would love to do this as a career. But if I can't, I want to do interior design or write children's books."
— article in The Press of Atlantic City on August 22, 2002, titled "Wyomissing girl, 12, to sing at U.S. Open."

below are essays, and then books, on queer theory (in which 'queer' has a different connotation than in regular speech) in the hebrew bible/ancient near east. if there is a particular prophet you want more of, or a particular topic (ištar, or penetration, or appetites), or if you want a pdf of anything, please let me know.

So this was originally an addition to another post but it wasn't making the same point despite being on the same topic but I'd still like to share it
A year ago in a little bout of mania I started doing some work archiving early trans web content. One of the sites I found was called Dragscape, and it was pretty explicitly a site for chasers more than it was a site for TS/TG/CD/TV girls themselves.
If you're interested in my writeup of the site, you can find that here, but one of the articles I had found was from a self described "trannychaser" posted August 2002. Genuinely one of the most interesting reads of my life:

On the topic of Sherlockiana... a highlight of my visit to London!
It was a pretty jam packed trip that, yes, included plenty of the standard touristy things, but I also took a second to take a photo here.
So where am I?
Tumblr media
See if you can guess- I'll give you a minute.
*
*
*
*
*
I'm actually only a few doors down from the Sherlock Holmes Museum (which I will admit I did not visit- time was tight and tickets were not cheap- but I did get a photo there too). I am, instead/in addition, at Abbey House, the former home of the Abbey National Bank- an institution with a storied Sherlock Holmes history.
Now, when I thought I'd have more time for the Sherlockian part of my sojourn (I also needed, among other more typical touristy activities, to get to Poirot's and Lord Peter Wimsey's respective apartment buildings at various points, not to mention my Gaudy Night Oxford walking tour), I had serious plans to walk the area and stop at every address that has been pointed out, by different Sherlockian scholars, to possibly have been the location of 221B Baker Street.
But why are there multiple places where 221B might be? I didn't have the same question, after all, when I went to the vague general location of 112A Piccadilly to visit Lord Peter Wimsey (now a Sheraton hotel, but ah well). For a different reason, nor did I when I visited Poirot's residence, because Whitehaven Mansions doesn't exist and so I went to the TV show exterior location (Florin Court, near the Barbican). But with 221B Baker Street it is a very real problem (and not least because the Granada exterior was a set in Manchester and I can live without a photo in front of the BBC Sherlock one).
It's also a problem that's been written about extensively in a variety of books and articles. I won't go through all of them here, partly because I don't have all the material in front of me and partly because it would take QUITE a while, but the gist is that 221B Baker Street did not exist when the stories were written. The highest house number on the street was 84, and the part that now has the 200s was called Upper Baker Street. In between Baker Street and Upper Baker Street was York Place, and if you ask Sherlockian scholars, 221B could have been at several different houses on any three of these streets, meaning all the way up and down the modern-day Baker Street. In fact, for those interested in interrogating where 221B must have been based on landmarks, the location of the current 221B (the Sherlock Holmes museum) is actually blocks away from where Holmes himself must have lived- partly because ACD could never have known that the three streets would merge, and partly because of the kinds of landmarks that ACD gives in stories like The Empty House.
And so, in essence, the fact that a 221B (more or less) Baker Street exists today is basically a coincidence.
A separate post would go more into the various different addresses that have been posited by a variety of commentators based on London geography and Sherlockian canon over the last hundred or so years- such as 49 Baker Street by TS Blakeney, 61 Baker Street by Gavin Brend, 111 Baker Street (formerly on York Place) by Dr Gray Chandler Briggs (with the approval of Vincent Starrett), and 31 Baker Street by Bernard Davies (with the approval of William S Baring-Gould). I am still a bit mad I didn't get to visit and pace out their accuracy for myself, though I know London has changed a lot since many of them made their determinations. But all this to say that 221B is still clouded in fog, but that for all practical purposes Abbey House, for several decades, was a lighthouse within it.
After all, once 221B DID exist, who would be getting Holmes's mail? The answer- the Abbey National Bank, which built as its headquarters Abbey House at 219-229 Baker Street, where it resided from 1932-2002 (the building is now residential as I understand it- Abbey National Bank is now part of Santander and HQ is elsewhere). As of 1932, this block had only been part of Baker Street for two years, and while 221 was technically not its own address, it was clearly within the area designated for Abbey House. Some businesses, placed in one of the most famous addresses in the world, would see this as a burden- Abbey National Bank, for over fifty years, took the exact opposite approach, including:
In 1951, they hosted an exhibit in cooperation with the Conan Doyle family celebrating the world of Sherlock Holmes, which can now be seen (but sadly not by me due to an unfortunate wrong-tube-related incident) at the Sherlock Holmes pub in Charing Cross
They put up a plaque, unfortunately now lost, at their building to commemorate Holmes's, well, home
They employed a secretary to answer mail sent to Holmes at 221B Baker Street (and there was plenty of it)
They published or were part of publishing multiple Holmes-related books, including one edited by Richard Lancelyn Green featuring letters written to 221B
They helped fund a statue of Holmes that still stands today at Baker Street
They also objected when, in 1990, the Westminster City Council put up a blue plaque (a London staple commemorating the heritage of local buildings) at the new Sherlock Holmes Museum, farther down the street, calling it 221B. This made the street numbering out of whack and angered Abbey National, which by all accounts had the actual location where 221B WOULD be re street numbering and had spent years investing in its Sherlock Holmes connection. The museum spent nearly a decade trying to get the rights to the 221B street number so that it would receive all of Holmes's mail, only winning the rights to the out-of-sync street number when Abbey vacated the premises in 2002, ending its seventy year long relationship with Sherlock Holmes.
Abbey National is a legend, and I was thrilled to visit its former site. Definitely worth a quick stop by anyone already heading 221B-ward!

#RPGCovers Week Thirteen Transhuman Space (2002)+ Christopher Shy
I’m surprised that given the length of this series so far, I’m only now talking about Christopher Shy. His work stands for a chunk of the 1990s and 2000s for me. It’s iconic, unique, and always recognizably his. I had a lot to choose from but I keep coming back to Transhuman Space. I’ll talk about that and then the way his Mage work actively redefined the game itself.
Transhuman Space is a “Powered by GURPS” book with a decent number of supplements. Shy did the covers and provided the interior art to several in the series. Like many of Shy’s best pieces, it is a kind of pseudo-collage. You can see several disparate elements blended together by a water-color darkness. I’m not sure how else to describe it. The effect is to be out-of-focus, but in a way that gives us room to imagine what’s going on.
I especially love how with TS the hard sci-fi aesthetic of the setting is undercut by the almost impressionistic imagery. This isn’t sharp lines and gleaming chrome. It is rough, bespoke, overwhelming, and human. It points to a very different kind of sci-fi games and signals another aesthetic. Like, and this is really just my reading, we have the idea of Transhumanism (like we see in the slick clean look of something like Eclipse Phase).  But our central figure in the middle of the page is in a grimy, retro space suit that wouldn’t look out of place in a 1960s film. Again contradictions that say something about the setting itself.
Shy’s best work establishes that feel and tone super clearly. As I mentioned above, one of the best examples of that is the change in White Wolf’s approach to Mage the Ascension. I love early Mage, which is defined by some of the amazing work of Michael Kaluta (who I’ll come back to tomorrow). His designs have a clean, brilliantly drafted look to them. The covers for the Mage 1e Tradition books, sharp black lines on metallic covers, speak to the forward looking elements of that iteration of the game: magic, wonder, and potential.
Then eight years later, WW revised those books, expanding them and bringing them up to date with the changes in rules, setting, and especially tone of Mage. Gone were the clean, distinct lines. Shy’s images are muddy, melancholy, and fallen. The Traditions have lost and are picking up the pieces. Yes, the books all fit in a series, but the links are from the whole book design, rather than the echoes Kaluta gives. Instead each Shy piece is different, like washed out photos of broken people. Some have a more powerful look, but the darkness around them undercuts that.
It’s one of the best uses of covers to present a new take on a game line: creating a break with the past and telling us a new story about the setting.

On the topic of costumes (since we’ve been doing costume polls lately) I’ve been watching a bunch of old skating comps (‘02-08) [however mostly singles and pairs bc I find it very hard to watch ice dancing that’s not VM] and in watching 2002 worlds (the worlds after the Salt Lake Olympics- ie the pairs scandal, ie the the death of the 6.0 system) and watching the ice dance competition the.. audacity of the costuming- specifically in the FD- and the comments on it (Rod and Tracey from TSN).. and I know it was a different time fashion wise, but the fact that ice dancing is (was supposedly at that time) a “sport” and to think.. not just that it would actually look good, but it’s right to come out and perform a sporting program in the stuff they were wearing. I’ll link it here so you can watch for yourselves and listen to the commentary. I can’t imagine dancing in the stuff these people were wearing just from a physical perspective, but did they actually think this looked good?? Like why didn’t someone stop them. It was embarrassing and any potentially good skating skills/dance ability was completely hidden. It’s just insane how much this sport changed in.. 4 years- between this point and VM arriving in seniors.
Essentially this rant is part of my constant exasperation that this actually managed to remain a ‘sport’ (oops putting ‘sport’ in quotes again) and at this same time two little muchkins in south-west Ontario who had recently won pre-novice nationals were really only a few years away from bringing credibility back to this sport (not my words- those of people who know far more than I do). And in doing these costumes polls, you can see that from the moment they hit seniors they arrived with a maturity and sophistication I don’t think this sport had seen in a long time. T in a simple, elegant dress with her hair and makeup beautifully done, and S in a simple white blouse and black trousers. And they simply danced. And as the smallest and youngest team they came into seniors and made a definitive mark and said “we are ice dance, the quintessential meaning of it. This is a sport and an art and we are going to be the ones to set the tone”.
No of course it wasn’t them purely alone, they had coaches that were working to the new system and pushing the technical possibilities- but in TS they had the perfect team to make this a reality - DW’s skating skills are light years behind VM’s, no other up and coming team was close to VM athletically or artistically, and by 2010, the difference was clear- the new system teams from the old with VM far in the lead. And maybe most obvious that difference was in costuming- several teams in 2010 still dressed with the distaste and artistic deafness of (some of the teams) 8 years earlier.
Ok sorry that got longer than expected but it was just something I was thinking about.

7/6/13 TS was in Pittsburgh for The Red Tour, the surprise song was “Our Song”… our song united we stand :)
Our Song is track #10 from the 1st album. It was played 4x on tour. But never on piano. (This is where I think the surprise songs are telling two stories, in “Lover" she mentions the guitar string scars on her hand that would have developed during “Teardrops On My Guitar” and then extended metaphorically because I think she is still sad. But the piano songs are telling their own story because she said “And the organ starts to play a song that sounds like a death march” in Speak Now. Pianos are also called Organs.
But there are also the organs in your body, like your heart. It's all a play on words”
My, my, my, my 8x. 8x4=32
this is also from Mary’s Song, Album 1 track #10
it was played 1x on tour 7/6/24 show #112 (112) this was mashed with So High School and Everything Has Changed.

in the hidden messages she did in the first 5 albums, album 3 Speak Now Deluxe track #17 ‘Superman’ the hidden message was “Today I Am Saved” which was released as a promotional single on 11/8/2011.
’Superman’ was performed on 9/24/2011 in Kansas City during the Speak Now Tour during the acoustic session. It was also performed on 2/9/24 in Tokyo. (Exactly 1 year before the Super Bowl, where Kendrick performed at HalfTime) the hidden message to Bad Blood is “she made friends and enemies”
Superman’s name was Clark Kent… CK like KC backwards?
Morgan Wallen recently released a snippet to his new song dedicated to his son titled ‘Superman’
and Eminem has the song titled ‘Superman’ which was released on 1/21/2003, it is track #13 on his 4th studio album ‘The Eminem Show’ which released on 5/26/2002

Which ran from 7/1/2008 - 6/3/2013 (2013 TS on Red Tour) and the main character from the show is named Amy, and her boyfriend's name is Ben… so that connects to thank you Aimee and Benjamin Button. Molly Ringwald would also play the mom in this show, Molly Ringwald takes us back to High School since she was part of the brat pack and in the original The Breakfast Club which premiered in LA on 2/7/1985 and released to the US on 2/15/1985. The lead track is Don’t You Forget About Me, even though it is played last in the movie. Paper cut stings from our paper-thin plans
Paper folded into paper planes when they are children, is then made into paper rings when they are older. The paper ring turned into a crumpled piece of paper on the floor when the plans changed.
In the ‘Change’ lyric video it has a writer/artist at a desk who is writing each of the lyrics in different fonts, code, colors. It is a video that can say a lot without saying anything at all
“Paper thin plans” maybe the two of them looked better together on paper than they did together.
But also Meredith Grey and Derek Shepard ended up getting married on a post-it that they just hung over their bed. Derek died, that post-it probably left invisible cuts to her when he did because the paper was a physical reminder of what they had together.
My time, my wine, my spirit, my trust
Time…. Well time is a curious thing, are we moving backwards or forwards?
Wine can be turned into ‘mine’
spirit could also be the ghost that is haunting her
”I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked” Daylight
“trust him like a brother” Call It What You Want
”I was thinking that you could be trusted” Bad Blood
”I swear I’m gonna change, trust me” WANGBT
Tryna find a part of me you didn't take up
Take up… like real estate?
”free rent, living in my mind” I Forgot You Existed
Gave you so much, but it wasn't enough
But I'll be alright, it's just a thousand cuts
I get drunk, but it's not enough
'Cause you're not my baby
‘There Goes My Baby’ Usher 6/15/2010 the music video released on 7/13/2010.
in 2010 TS was on the 2nd half of the Fearless Tour.
But
6/15/2011 TS was on the Speak Now World Tour N2/2 Saint Paul
the shows in Atlanta for this tour Usher joined her to sing “Yeah!” On 10/1/1010. And on 10/2/2011 she was joined by T.I for “Live Your Life”
“Live Your Life ft Rihanna” released on 9/8/2008 the song also gave a dedication to the American troops fighting in Iraq ❤️ the music video plays BACKWARDS. There is also a remix with Pitbull which released on 9/4/2009… his verse is important enough to list the entirety:
“I'ma live my life, that's right whether you like it or not
And If you hate me boy, I hoping you hate me a lot
If this music don't work then send me your block
And watch me flood it like Katrina, let the government watch
My people's on government watch, I used to get government help
Fuck the goverment, they could hardly cover themselves
America, the land of hustlers and thieves
Hard workers, I speak I'm proud to be
Our society's greedy, don't appreciate freedom
We should take 'em to Cuba and Haiti, let poverty greet them
So all my peoples in Cuba dreaming of freedom
Keep fighting them communists with God's help
I'ma fucking pay them”
how powerful music can be if you once hear it and then you read it.
Hurricane Katrina 8/23/2005 - 8/31/2005
she would make landfall 3 times.
1,392 people died
652 people declared missing
*There are also real life accounts of people explaining that they believe the levees were tampered with prior to Katrina happening.
A lot of the people that could not get out took shelter in the Superdome, which would then need $193 M in construction costs to fix the damage. But what about the people? They didn’t get the help as fast as the dome did..
Stephen King wrote a book called Under The Dome; it was released on 11/10/2009.
“Price tag” Jessie J and B.o.B which released on 1/25/2011
She would be joined by B.o.B on the Red Tour on 4/19/2013 to sing “Both of Us” —> 11 years later she released TTPD…. Is this where I point out the very obvious point that her music videos start with a white man and slowly progress to a black man in her videos…. I might have already done this actually but this is a great reminder of that fun fact.
Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ 2/6/2016 song and music video released on the same day. It was from her 6th studio album ‘Lemonade’ which released on 4/23/2016
3/23/2013 TS Red Tour Columbia, South Carolina the surprise song was ‘Forever and Always’ which was only played on the ET 2x. 5/13/23 Philly and 2/26/24 Sydney
There is a YouTube Channel created on 3/25/2013 called Lyrical Lemonade
3/25/1847 Elton John DOB
3/25/2022 Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins dies in Colombia while on tour with the band.

It was commissioned for the soundtrack to Furious 7 it was written for tribute to Paul Walker who died on 11/30/2013. Furious 7 released on 4/1/2015 at TCL Chinese Theatre and on 4/3/2015 in the US.

"Striking original . . . A historian whose arguments operate on the scale of millennia has managed to capture the zeitgeist perfectly."--The Economist "This deeply important book comes at a critical time as we all think through the implications of AI and automated content production. . . . Masterful and provocative."--Mustafa Suleyman, author of The Coming Wave For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite all our discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI--a new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive? Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world. Taking us from the Stone Age, through the canonization of the Bible, early modern witch-hunts, Stalinism, Nazism, and the resurgence of populism today, Yuval Noah Harari asks us to consider the complex relationship between information and truth, bureaucracy and mythology, wisdom and power. He explores how different societies and political systems throughout history have wielded information to achieve their goals, for good and ill. And he addresses the urgent choices we face as non-human intelligence threatens our very existence. Information is not the raw material of truth; neither is it a mere weapon. Nexus explores the hopeful middle ground between these extremes, and in doing so, rediscovers our shared humanity.
