I think the real reason for the recast hate is they think of their dolls as an investment. They think the monetary value of their own dolls is more important than someone else enjoying the hobby with recast dolls that are loved and cherished. They are not "pro-artist" ... they are "pro-themselves"
That's why I look at them and say...

"Recast-neutral" (adj.) 1. I personally don't plan on stealing but it's none of my business if other people do. 2. I don't believe art theft is a real problem, so I imagine there's no contradiction between "supporting" an artist with nice Thoughts & Prayers and turning a blind eye to the theft of their work.

This is why I'm not a fan of vampire BJDs, this shit bothers me so fucking much
Re: https://true-bjd-confessions.tumblr.com/post/643316867283468288/dont-like-smushed-on-lips-you-know-the-look What about when they take a doll and smush two tiny flecks of clay into the lower lip from the bottom of the upper lip and call it a “vampire version”?

Mod, kindly delete this if you do not want to answer. I’m just curious what’s behind the curtain of my lunch break entertainment.
Why do you run this blog? I know I would enjoy it, but it’s definitely a lot to keep up with and not for everyone! if you don’t mind me asking, what made you step up to make this blog when the original went silent? And finally, pineapple on pizza or nah?
~Anonymous
Mod: I actually just love reading all your dolly thoughts, obviously there are some toxic and serious ones in there which can be difficult, but generally I enjoy reading everyone's dolly opinions. I ran (was deleted by tumblr in p0rngate due to doll photos(!) since basically anything with flesh-tones was getting flagged by their bot, and remade here, they restored it a whole year later) truebjdconfessionz (now @bjd-confessions) since the middle of 2017, I found the original truebjdconfessions in 2015? And just was addicted, when they stopped posting I'd keep checking and after a few months, eventually decided to make my own. I just posted about it in the comments of the latest post on tbc at the time, and since everyone else was still checking the blog, it gained followers quickly.
I've never knowingly eaten pineapple on pizza :p

some collectors: "this is my one-off v0lks girl that you could only get by going to specific store on a specific day. she wears fullset clothes from doll heart, has a very expensive faceup, and I only handle her with white gloves." other collectors: "this is big chungus and I bought her off ebay as a junk doll. she wears socks and I did her faceup myself. she's fallen on her head like five times today" AND THEY ARE BOTH VALID

NGL. I didn't know who Hatsune Miko was. I found out she was a 3D image projection pop star. Now, I basically side-eye everyone who collects dolls of her. Guess I'm a snob.

someone called this hobby a pg13 space and just?? the hobby with $1200 dolls is for young adults? the hobby with realistically sculpted genitals is for the youth?? citation needed, goddamn. who made that decision, exactly? i'm gonna be completely honest- the people who keep insisting that things have to be child-friendly and that all spaces online are made for minors /by default/ are far more creepy to me than people who are like "here is my adult content, don't look if you're a minor."

I just want to give this bit of info because I went looking for it when I started the hobby and there was very limited information.
If you can’t or don’t want to use MSC or other aerosol varnish/sealant for faceups (I’d hazard also for body detailing; but I don’t care for blushing the body) buy yourself a big bottle of Liquitex Matte VARNISH (not medium) and a bag of little disposable makeup sponges. Tap about 3-4 full layers of varnish on your doll’s head and then boom you have a protected toothy surface that holds even cheap pastels and then you just layer it the same way you would aerosol sealant. As long as it’s not super humid when you apply and you don’t get it really wet, it’s super durable and very matte.
Here’s the cons: I don’t use pencils on my dolls because the cheap ones I have don’t work, so I can’t tell you if the tooth is good enough for pencil, but paint and pastel work great. Don’t over apply. 3-4 base coats should be enough to start and while you’re working just do one thin coat between each layer (you can even do it in one spot like the brows) because the tooth leaves a more realistic skin texture and when you over do it it becomes very rough and it catches the light in a very unflattering way. You really don’t need a lot after the base coat and then maybe two thin coats to seal before gloss (I recommend liquitex high gloss varnish).
Keep a sewing needle or pin handy because you will get little flecks of dirt or fuzz from your hand/sponge or the air. While it’s still wet, use the pin to pick up or gently scratch off the blemish, let it dry, and then apply the next layer, or just a little tap over the spot you removed the gunk from. It’s an easy fix, but it takes time to get used to catching them before they dry in place. You will have a fuzzy somewhere, but as you get used to the method you’ll have a lot less. DO NOT remove the faceup before the varnish has had a day or so to dry. Liquitex matte varnish dissolves great in 90%+ alcohol, but if it’s still wet when you start scrubbing it will get gummy and it’ll peel off in large pieces (which is actually really cool and satisfying) but it’ll leave residue that is hard to remove because it become white and crusty. It comes off, but it’s a pain. If you let the paint fully dry it’ll come off nice and easy with some alcohol and a magic eraser.
I haven’t had a doll stain yet so long as you apply 3-4 thin coats before paint or pastel and I’ve yet to rub the varnish off on noses or chins or ears like I’ve had company faceups (and I’ll admit I have a nasty habit of touching their pretty little faces) and as long as you don’t over apply the finish is super nice and it holds pigment and color very nice. It also evens out lumpy acrylic pretty well so long as it’s not super clunky. It’s not toxic, it doesn’t stink, and you can get a big bottle of it (on sale for less) at most craft stores (and Amazon I think) for like $14-$20 depending on the size and it lasts long because you only need like 4-5 drops to do like 2 layers. I accidentally waste it a lot and I use it for lots of other projects and I still keep a regular size bottle for over a year. It’s great and it’s affordable and safe.
Tl:dr: if you hate aerosol sealant, try sponging on brush-on varnish. Maybe not for everyone, but honestly I’ll never go back. Also it works good on vinyl but make sure you fully mix it or else it’ll be shiny

CW: War
Hi! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and start blaming Russian citizens for not speaking out about the war please. Russia is very strict about what it’s people are and aren’t allowed to say— people don’t speak out for fear of being fined, jailed, or all together disappearing. Don’t start spreading rumors and hate, it can get very dangerous very fast.

My partner has been hounding me to sell my grails because we’re going through some financial hardships. I’m really upset with them because of this, though I suppose I understand why they think I’d be fine with it (I’ve sold a couple of generic sculpt dolls in the past to cover small bills). But no matter how many times I explain to them how difficult it was to find them, how expensive they are in the second hand market, and how selling them would mean I’d have to spend another decade searching for replacements, they refuse to listen. This isn’t the first time they’ve been pushy about my doll collecting, either. There have been times when I pull them out to take pictures or change their clothes (or to just look at them, honestly), and they make snide comments about how ‘creepy’ they look and how I look ‘stupid’ holding them. Honestly, they’ve made me feel insecure about having them around, so I leave them in their boxes in the corner of the closet. I realize I should probably leave them. But I wouldn’t have a place to go. We moved away from our home town years ago, and because of my disability, I can’t work or save up money to do so. If I were back home, I could go stay with my mother, but she’s hundreds of miles away. And no one in my life knows about my dolls, so I’m hesitant to bring it up with friends (“You’re leaving them because you want to own DOLLS???” - how I imagine they’d react). I honestly feel kind of stuck. I miss the days when I was single, I was able to play with and love on my dolls without feeling like I was being judged. My mom even used to make cute little sweaters for my biggest boy. I have no idea what to do anymore. But I’m not selling my grails. I’m putting my foot down on this, even if it destroys my relationship.

i feel like a lot of people don't have the proper context for how insanely toxic the us is with its "the human body is sinful" rhetoric and why so many people genuinely feel like any form of nudity is somehow sexual even on a doll. to that end i feel compelled to point out that in much of the public US education system, the Diary of Anne Frank is censored to remove all passages where she talks about her body and her experiences as a young adult. we are a broken society, you guys.

Someone should make an angel bjd. Not the ethereal beautiful kind, but the "BE NOT AFRAID" eldritch horror beast kind. I want an angel that comes bearing responsibility for my other dolls.
