this season of rings of power has definitely confirmed me that halbrand sauron did not have a big overarching plan for the whole season and was just seeing where life would take him because he seemed extremely laid back and chill compared to annatar sauron, who has a 600 step plan for world domination and looks like he's about 5 seconds from telepathically exploding people with his mind whenever they disagree with him

See i always thought TROP went the Elrond is sunshine and daisies route but then they surprised me with No This Is A Petty King and I went hell yeah!!

Like wdym he went and shouted at Galadriel and fucked off into a waterfall (should not have been surprised. It’s in his ancestry to do as such) and then quite literally tattled to Círdan like a child that Heyyyy your little shit of an adopted son— i mean High King— is making a terrible decision because they Refuse To Listen To Me.

And then the rest of the show is just his life Falling Apart™ and going I F*cking Told You So, and being genuinely petty about it to literally everyone (Read: Galadriel), and then going into war serving lethal face card and swordsmanship, and proceeding to go absolutely feral in defending literary scrolls that he’d literally offer His AND Gil-Galad his HIGH KING’s life in exchange for it.

Like yeah I fear this is indeed accurate to Elrond Peredhel descending into madness over everyone’s stupidity. Curly haired, young, feral ankle-biter Elrond Peredhel aka THE Half-Elf.

Can't believe this writer is trying to argue the problem with the show is that it isn't treating the main villain like a one-note, simplistic character and this is somehow too confusing because viewers won't know he's the villain despite all the villainous things he does like murder, manipulation, gaslighting, and orchestrating the complete destruction of an entire Elven realm. How media illiterate do you have to be to think exploring a villain's motivation in some way constitutes trying to trick the audience into think he isn't really a villain?

These two stills nicely show the passage of time during Sauron's goo phase. Stalactites and stalagmites do not grow exactly quickly.

It's only after the shot in the second still that Blobron devours the poor rat.

It means he was a black puddle for a very long time before he turned into a spaghetti monster, crawled out of the cave, had a sled adventure, was run over by a carriage and turned into Halbrand... possibly not of the Southlands. :-)

It's a lovely example of "show don't tell."

sauron appear before celebrimbor in a simple garment with little intricacies and a circlet that represent halo above his unkempt hair. a humble yet modest approach to his bearing. a common depiction of an angel. despite this, the white robe sauron wore is tainted. signifying his hidden corruption.

once he took control of eregion, and hold the title of a lordship, only then he appear in embellished robe and styled hair. the circlet no longer there. the color of his robe is fully black, as gold ordained his clothing. a design representing the pollution and the greediness of his desire to possess middle-earth. he is no longer hiding behind the role of an emissary. he is now, sauron, ruling eregion behind celebrimbor.
