And Bodhi is the reason Beck became the renegade and Im currently a sentient pile of emotional mush 👍

Been thinking about tron names for a while now. In the original, it seems that programs names are their file names, with mcp, tron, and clu all referred to by name outside the grid. That being said, what was ram? Did some dumbass at encom try downloading ram off the internet?? That aside in tron uprising and legacy we get more human names like beck, bodhi, mara, Paige so I would like to propose that flynn, knowing that the programs are sentient, started renaming them with people names

Literally on screen for 30 seconds max

We all clocked that shit instantly

Never brought him up again (thx to retroactive backstory oops)

Beck was actually visibly sad about him tho to the point his boss/dad had to ask if he was ok

Absolute cute couple though

8/10 I knew him for five seconds and now I have to kill everyone in this room and then myself

2. Paige

Y'all already know. Everyone knows. The whole grid knows.

The sexual tension is palpable

3. Tron

I went over this in my tron's exes list but I must reiterate cause reasons

Can you imagine meeting your hero, your icon, your savior and he's....a bit of a bitch??

But you learn and get to know him and he opens up to you and comes to trust you with his life UGH my heart

9/10 I rated this 7/10 before but I'm not scared anymore they're GOOD

4. Cyrus

Look, he gets in with his bffs and the first thing they say to Beck is "you didn't tell us you had a new bf!" (Totally NOT paraphrasing that).

The fucked up stalker/victim pairing is SUCH good tea

And then he tries to kill him later? Delicious.

7/10 this one's for the toxicity 😏

5. Lux (I had to look up her name)

okay this one loses points because they WANTED me to ship this when we already knew Paige existed

I don't like to be told what to do

I mean, it's ok Beck has two hands(more like eight at this point) I can work with it

loved her jaded perspective turning into hope before she was fridged for male pai- I mean derezzed for reasons relevant to the plot 👀 that was definitely neat

Consider: she is pretty though

6. Mara

tbh she's such a cutie and deserves way better than whatever incel shit Zed has going on

no wonder she's in love with Tron/the Renegade (I mean, same) I would beg a superhero to save me from him too

she and Beck have such a good dynamic

would be such a cute friends to lovers pair

can you imagine if she found out her bestie was the renegade she's been visibly/audibly thirsting after? Queen shit.

8/10 This one is actually the least toxic here

7. The rebellion leader whose name escapes me (it's Bartik)

so this guy appears in legacy as the rebel leader at Castor's before getting derezzed five minutes later (shocker there)

this one just kinda leaped into my brain when I binged the show directly after watching Legacy

can you imagine inspiring someone to change sides completely and then become the leader of the very fire you sparked long after you're probably gone? Endlessly romantic.

6/10 I have yet to have a really bad ship tbh

I really do love that Beck is just the most specialest boy, he's the grid's next top model, he's batman, he's everything. Istg this is a harem anime in disguise and I ship him with everyone.

I can think of at least two programs off the top of my head that I didn't include because I forgot until now, so tell me about your rare pairs, etc. I was thinking about rating Clu's crushes that he handles in a completely normal way next but that might be too much. This is what happens when we have no new content for 10 years.

Thoughts on Uprising ep18 “No Bounds”

- cold open: well, I clocked that was Cyrus the moment those Black Guards were derezzed. like, Beck’s Entire Thing is that he does not derezz ANYONE including soldiers of the Occupation. that’s what he does. but Cyrus of course has no such compunctions, and thinks the whole Grid deserves to die anyway, SO. fUCK HIM. also “guess who’s back~” FUCK YOU TWICE, MAN.

- turns out Mara got caught in the blast of Cyrus’ bomb, but she’s okay after a once over and some shrapnel removal. (Zed fainting is the only moment of levity in the entire episode and I just. I just. I could’ve used some more. SIGH.) and then Beck, who’s just hanging with his friends (good for him) catches Cyrus admiring his handiwork and, perhaps stupidly, goes after him. and it turns out Cyrus stole Tron’s white disc, the disc with the Renegade disguise in it! SO THAT’S NOT GOOD, IS IT.

- side note, Love how the updated Wanted notice for the Renegade cites him for “the unlawful killing of civilian programs” which. like. OPPOSED TO ALL THE LAWFUL KILLING YOUR FUCKING POLICE STATE HAS DONE?!?!?!?!

- Beck thinks he still has it, tho, and lies to Able about being okay when he really shouldn’t (because Able is your good dad, Beck!! don’t lie to him!!!!!) and then gets fucking zapped by the fake that Cyrus apparently put in place of the real thing.

- and Beck takes the fake to Tron, and they have an argument about Cyrus and who should have told what when and it’s just. okay, I can see both your points of view, guys. you maybe should have BOTH tried honesty on for a change????? MAYBE??? GOD. I’m just. (I am still Extremely Shaken by the end of the episode, okay.) I want people to get along, and they’re on the same side, right? and maybe Beck feels a little un-special because he wasn’t the first, but Tron has a good point. Cyrus fights to destroy what he sees as an unworthy world. Beck fights because he believes in something, in his home and his friends. Cyrus doesn’t believe in anything, apparently, except others’ innate predictability.

- and now Cyrus is just casually hanging out with Zed and Mara!!!! GREAT. JUST WHAT I WANTED TO SEE. I know this is like a common trope or whatever, but I have NEVER liked it, because holy SHIT. this is a hot steaming pile of AWKWARD. talking around the truth, all that jazz. Cyrus is just being a Grade-A CREEP here and I don’t like it I hate it I hate it.

- and then…….. he tells Beck there’s a bomb at Able’s garage. and there is…….. the moment Beck brings it to the garage on his lightcycle. FUCK. I just. I cussed so much during this episode, but it wasn’t really feel-good cussing, if you know what I mean? this episode did not excite me, it filled me with a growing sense of Dread. and also an empty hole in my stomach. among other things. (STILL stuck on the ending, I’ll get there I’ll get there)

- turns out Able knows Cyrus! and knows how he operates—which is basically a sort of reverse psychology thing??? telling you one thing to get you to do something? kind of??? ties back into how he thinks all programs are predictable, I guess??? I don’t know, but Beck suddenly realizes that Cyrus WANTED him to take the counterfeit disc to Tron, because it takes over the systems of Tron’s hideout and…… that whole little scene was FUCKING CREEPY. all the lights go out—except for Tron’s suit….. and then Cyrus appears. FUCK.

- so Cyrus has set up a Dark Knight-esque bomb trap—or rather, a superhero villain choice trap, I guess? Beck has to choose one or the other—his friends, or his mentor. but he’s got an ace up his sleeve with Able!! so Beck goes to save Tron, Able to save Zed and Mara, and thankfully there’s no switchup, nor is the timeline so tight they fail to get there in time. but the single key doesn’t work for Able (because Cyrus fully expected Beck to take it to Tron) and so he goes about detaching the bombs by hand. Beck uses Bodhi’s tool to free Tron. it looks like things are going to….. be okay? for half a second???

- and then FUCKING CYRUS shows up because of COURSE HE FUCKING DOES. Tron sends Beck off to help Able, and a Cyrus v. Tron fight ensues! It’s a good action scene with some good beats, and Cyrus is apparently desperate for Tron’s approval. he wants to succeed Tron, to BE Tron, to be better than him in every way. except Tron won’t give him the satisfaction (and thank FUCK for that).

- and then Able gets the bombs off Mara and Zed!!!!!! It’s gonna be okay!!!!!! EXCEPT THEN THE BOMBS GO OFF???!?!??! and Tron gets the one attached to Cyrus but ABLE IS HOLDING THE OTHER TWO THAT WERE ON ZED AND MARA?!?!?!?!? AND. AND.

- fuck.

- thanks. i hate everything now. great. (i don’t actually hate everything now, but. but. but.)

- Mara draws the wrong conclusion. blames the Renegade. (Beck maybe should’ve taken off his disguise???? idkkkkkkkkkk) and basically everything has hit Rock Bottom for Beck. his friends hate the Renegade now, hate him indirectly. the city is turned against the Renegade completely. his only other mentor is dead. fuck.

- so this can’t get much worse. except somehow it’s going to. there’s only one episode left. none of these plot points that have been dangling all season are going to be fully resolved. fuck.

.........brain just imagined Beck dragging Tron to safety, one painful determined step at a time, because Argon is burning and Tron was willing to sacrifice himself to get the last few survivors out but Beck's not willing to let go of his mentor and friend that easily, so. Fic happened again.

Beck swears, snarls, and heedless of Mara's scream dives straight back into the wreckage of Argon City. Flames lick at his heels. Something crunches under his feet - he doesn't want to know what. Or who.

Tron's somewhere in this macabre monument highlighting what the Occupation does to those it can't control.

Clu's wearing him out, hunting him down.

Beck has to find him first.

Grid knows Tron would do this for him. Has done this for him, although with less chaos and destruction. It's long past time Beck returned the favour.

Or, at least, that's how he'll justify it if Tron asks.

He just-

He's lost his home. He's lost his job. He's lost everything he owns. He's lost Able. He's lost Bodhi. He's lost Cutler, Lux - glitch it, he's lost all his allies, one way or another. He's lost Zed, at least physically in the confusion. He may as well have lost Mara for the same reasons. He's lost Paige to a future glowing red.

He can't lose Tron too. Not like this.

If Tron wants him to go away and means it, he will, but he can't lose his friend to Clu's tyranny.

The garage was ground zero for the first missile. By some miracle, the part where Beck hid the white disc is undamaged enough that the disc is fine.

Beck doesn't pray to the Users any more. He's not sure he ever did. But he does send off a quick thanks to whatever's out there listening.

He activates the armour, and immediately afterwards gets covered in soot.

That's okay, he'll clean it later, and the grey-black mutes the silver-white enough he's hard to see amongst the ash.

It takes every iota of stealth training Beck's had to dodge the squads upon squads hunting through the city's twisted ruins. Several times he sees glimmers of blue-white, but finds only voxels.

The fires are nothing but ash and embers by the time Beck finds Tron. Or, more accurately, finds Tron's trail.

He zips off along it, making sure to obscure it as he goes. If he can find it, Clu definitely can, so every moment spent making it that much more difficult to follow is a precious moment more time he has to get Tron out of here.

Not that it's going to be easy, when he finds Tron.

The older Program is difficult to spot, at least, but he's not going anywhere under his own power. He's missing one foot, not entirely but Beck almost wishes he was because a clean break would be easier to handle than the mangled, melted mess left behind. Tron's scars are gaping open, sickly flickering blue tinged orange-yellow-green in a way Beck knows means the virus Dyson and Clu gave him has almost completely consumed him. His disc is a short distance away, giving Beck a massive scare before he spots it - no doubt slowing down the virus with physical separation.

Beck growls. He can fix this. He has to.

Never mind he's never done anything more medical than patch application before. That virus has to go, or Tron's not getting out of here.

...the virus has never been this close to the surface of Tron's code before. Small mercies.

Beck's fingers are nimble, even with the armour trying to put plating between him and the virus. He lets it, just a little. Enough to insulate, but not impede.

Tron whimpers when Beck's fingers brush against his code. He thrashes, trying to get away from the sensation.

"It's only me." Beck whispers to him, pressing his hand against the nearest uninjured patch of Tron's render he can find and allowing the Monitor's subroutines to read his ident. "It's me, it's okay. You're gonna be okay." Tron stops writhing, curled in on himself. He looks... small. Beck never thought Tron could ever have that descriptor applied to him. "We're gonna get through this, I promise. The only one here is me, I won't hurt you or let you get hurt."

He keeps up a soothing commentary while he works. The virus... it seems to let go easily enough. Mostly because Tron's all but derezzed. It needs a host, and this one won't last much longer.

Beck almost has the virus out before raised voices make him freeze. Tron curls tighter, unconsciously tries to hide.

One of them is Dyson. The other... Beck thinks it might possibly be Pavel, but then there's a sound like shattering glass and only one set of footsteps. Whoever they were, they're gone.

Beck looks at the virus in his grip. At Tron's code, damaged as it is. And at the red glow of circuits stalking around and searching the area.

Beck has an idea.

"I'll be back." He murmurs into Tron's ear, pulling the virus away from the Monitor's code entirely and setting Tron's disc in its dock. "I promise, I won't be far. Just got something to deal with."

The virus spreads tendrils to try and grab Beck's disc. Before it can do much more than grip feebly at his arm, Beck throws it from cover as far away from Tron as he feels safe going. It splats soundlessly against the broken road inches fron Dyson's heel, senses the unguarded disc above it, and swarms upwards.

Beck doesn't stick around long enough to see it burrow all the way into Dyson's code. Only enough to see it take root.

After that the screams tell him enough.

He decontaminates himself thoroughly before going anywhere near Tron. That virus isn't supposed to be able to spread, one victim at a time only, but Beck's taking no chances.

"I'm here, it's not me out there." Beck soothes Tron down from where he'd tensed and let a few tears slip, resting the Monitor's head in his lap and letting his hands trace idle patterns on undamaged render portions. "I'm here, I'm okay. We're okay, alright? We're going to be okay." Bit by bit, Tron relaxes again.

Dyson staggers away, woozy and in pain. It'll get worse for the General, Beck knows, but can't find it in himself to care. Let him beg for death - let death be a mercy. And may Dyson not be granted it for a long time yet.

The Renegade doesn't kill. Beck, though... Beck's beginning to understand the difference between killing for defence, killing for revenge, and killing for pleasure. He doesn't like those who do the last.

He also wants to go back in time and throttle his younger self for talking Tron out of killing Dyson, but that's neither here nor there.

It's dark by the time Beck deems it safe enough to risk moving. Truly dark for the first time ever, fires burned out and energy cut off. The only sources of light Beck has are his and Tron's circuits.

Clu's still hunting Tron, but from what little Beck's managed to scrounge together he's gathered the tyrant is looking more towards Purgos than the desolate corpse of Beck's home.

After all, nothing should have survived.

But now the only thing between Beck and safety, between Tron and a healing chamber, is countless leagues of barren Grid.

Lightcycles, lightjets, the lightrunner Beck thankfully snatched up in that first desperate escape from the garage and has fixed in the time spent waiting for patrols to slow and stop, all will attract too much attention. They have to get into the Outlands proper before Beck can chance rezzing anything.

Beck grits his teeth, and hoists Tron up onto his shoulders. One foot, then the next. All he has to do is walk.

obsessed with characters being saved against their will. being knocked unconscious and carried away from a danger they won't stop trying to fight. being shoved through a portal somewhere far away and safe right before it closes. trying to self-sacrifice only to have the exact person they're trying to save swap their places at the last second. getting the only cure to the disease or curse bc the person administering it loves them too much to give it to anyone else, including themselves. being thrown to safety right as they had accepted dying. someone else they thought had gotten to safety running back to drag them out of danger. it's so fucking tasty

In your Tron Uprising modern human AU, do you have any HCs for the character's ethnicities?

ah, i had to give this a bit of thought but yeah!

courtesy of my friend @miralyk, i do think of beck as vietnamese! earlier versions of beck's concept art do make him out to be more asian, and his design in general just doesn't really feel caucasian to me

i'm still considering what type of european mara would be, but i'm open to ideas! i think european culture and clothes would be fun to draw for her, but i may need to do some research into that first :'D

since bodhi is a name derivative of buddhism, i like to think he's southeast asian or more specifically, malaysian! in that same vein, i also drew zed with him being filipino in mind :D

as for paige, i headcanoned her as cantonese chinese! i share the same eye-shape as her, and her design with a high collar and sleeveless top reminds me of a very plausible cheongsam; not to mention a lot of her combat moves are reminiscent of old hong kong martial arts movies
