The only thing Hofnarr had going on with him in life was being autistic asf which led him to being very skittish and socially withdrawn but academically superior, and being autistic still applies to Tricky, though he doesn't face the same challenges nor have the same academic desires he did when he was alive bc of him lowkey being a reality bending God atp lmao. He can do whatever he wants now so if something clashes with the autism negatively then he can instantly get rid of it (I'm not projecting)

Aside from that, the only afflictions he's got going on are what you'd expect of a fuckin 60 year old rotting zombie lol

He is still the genius he was when he was Hofnarr! And he's not trying to hide it or anything like that! His interests have just shifted from the academic world to frivolous things that bring him instantaneous satisfaction, like DJing and Partying and Killing People, obvs lol. This isn't to say he doesn't still get enjoyment out of flexing his brain and putting his smarts to use, he just acts much more on impulse and short term dopamine rushes, as opposed to how Hofnarr acted mainly on careful methodical planning and long term dopamine cycles.

He had a thing going on with Jeb when he was still Hofnarr, though neither of them really "pursued" it in a very Definitive or Official capacity. It was very much a "What are we?" kind of situation ykwim. He did of course care very deeply for Christoff but Jeb was too emotionally closed off to truly let him in like that, so it was mainly relegated to chance intimate moments and the occasional heat of the moment "incidents" lol, but they missed out on something real. Tricky, even now, knows there's a part of him that still feels that way for Jeb but he knows damn well that they're not gonna have what they could've all that time ago, so he's more content to just playfully tease him and dick around and get on his nerves than pursue something more, Jeb can't keep up with Tricky's insanity the same way others could. This esp applies in dad au, where Jeb is essentially Boxxy's second dad since he helped raise her, but he's not "with" Tricky like that.

Despite what you'd expect of a homicidal freak like Tricky is, he's incredibly social and down to hang and do whatever cause he's always in search of a good time! Except if he's pissed off about something with Hank or the AAHW but I digress. Dude fuckin loves clubbing and headlining sets for them, he loves breaking it down on the dancefloor, of course half the time he parties it ends in him fuckin massacring the joint he's chilling at but tbh, maybe you just need to get used to the "killin" part of "chillin n killin"

The visual of the static and words that pops up around him in the series obvs is just a cool visual thing with him but I like to think that he can just like…do that shit lol. Like if he so feels inclined, he'll project screams and static into the minds of people, which effects them in such a way where their brain functions are numbed to hell and they practically cease being able to make decisions, form thoughts, or even use brain power to move their bodies n shit, and they're just subjected to internal screaming in addition to whatever the fuck Tricky feels like doing to them.

Whenever he scuffles with Hank, he Especially tries to not use any cheap tricks to get a leg up over him, bc Hank is one of the few people who can actually give him a challenge in a fight and that makes things WAAAAAAY more exciting and fun, so doing some underhanded shit he could easily pull bc of his reality bending powers just makes shit less fun, and he values fun over anything else. Unless Hank actually manages to piss him the fuck off during a fight, in which cause He won't give a fuck anymore, and he'll go full fuck it we ball mode n try whatever to kill his ass, like going flame demon mode n chasing him n shit like that

When he talks he audibly uses tone indicators out loud, like verbally saying "slash J" or "slash Joke" out loud when he speaks. he doesn't do it to be courteous or whatever he just thinks its sounds funny as hell

Tricky is known in canon to be "playful" despite his psychopathic behavior.

Around his obsession he'd be extremely playful and protective.

He sees you as the only actual "friend" he has in this place.

Even though your friendship primarily consists of him watching you from afar and ambushing you.

You aren't really friends with the clown.

He thinks so, but in reality he just sort of stalks and pesters you.

A nuisance more than anything.

You try to play along as it's better than being dead.

You aren't blind... you know what that clown can do.

So you swallow your fear when he playfully appears before you, always looking so excited to see you.

In terms of impressing you... that could mean anything for Tricky.

Be it some sort of trick he learned, or literal murder.

There's a range with him, sometimes the trick he learned really is just... death.

Tricky just wants to impress and win over his obsession.

Even as Hofnarr he didn't have many friends.

So he'd do anything to impress and have your attention.

That includes requests/orders.

Sometimes you get an attack clown in exchange for affection.

Useful... maybe.

Tricky is naturally overly jealous and clingy towards his obsession.

His urge to do something for your attention already drives off others around you.

Many have heard of Tricky and have seen his... moments.

So the fact that Tricky seems so hell-bent on obtaining the affections of this one grunt... why should they intervene?

In fact, they should let him have you!

You'll be making a great sacrifice for everyone else if you just keep the clown docile... right?

hi hello me again with additional info to court jesters in the central and west european space!

court jester in german is Narr/Hofnarr (fem version was and is Närrin) which probably originated in an old or mid high german word. Narr was (and is sometimes still) used to describe somebody “confused”, “insane”, “stupid”, etc. (like in a bible psalm which translates the latin insipiens to Narr)

but the Hofnarr is a different story at first. hofnarren were an important position in the court of various barons and kings. they had Narrenfreiheit, which just means they were allowed to shittalk their employer in front of everybody without repercussions. they criticised nobels to keep them in reality, remind them they weren’t above the average citizen and just as easy to make fun of, basically a reality check.

in the late 13th century that changed, Hofnarren were more often “kept” to amuse the audience not to criticise, and there was a distinction made between “artificial jesters”, which were the “original”, incredibly intelligent and funny people who kept their employers in check with clever jokes and tricks but had to act being confused or “insane” in order feign Narrheit and not be thrown in the dungeons bc then it would be serious criticism and we can’t have that ofc /sarcastic, and “natural jesters” who often were exploited disabled people, commonly ppl with dwarfism (like sebastian de morra) or intellectual and physical disabilities (like claus narr von ranstet), and were - like a morbid dystopia - kept like trading cards to show off to other nobles to see who had the “funniest (looking) ones” (i gaged when i read that)

but not all is bad, it was probably one of the better courses of life for a disabled person in the middle ages and early neuzeit (modern era). they were cared for 24/7, most had the absolute trust of the reigning monarch, they were protected exemptions of the law that had way more freedom than even the royals themselves and got everything they wished for, and even if they didnt, there often weren’t much repercussions to when they just took what they wanted.

that might seem like the preferable thing for your life to be, but they were still ridiculed daily, had to exploit themselves to keep their position, had to take abuse and dirty looks from everybody in the court (but the mostly oblivious monarch oftentimes)

AIGHT, aight. So. We know how Hoffy is: Delusional and soft and potentially breedable but those are hcs for another time. He loves you so so much, but it holds back- he holds back a lot. It took a few years to break, but hey, not everyone's as patient and understanding as Hofnarr is. Well, sorta patient. Xey could only go so long without hearing your voice singing his praises, or your soft paws on his body.

All it took was his death and he was almost instinctively on your trail, like a hunting dog after a fox. Oh, no doubt he was worried. Would you recognize it? Would the sight of it make you scream? Would you be afraid of him? Would you... hate xem?

Xey push those thoughts to the side- all it needs is you. He doesn't care if you love xem (he does), he doesn't care if you remember him (he does), and he doesn't care if he hurts you (he does). He just wants to feel your warm skin against his rotting corpse.

You're terrified when he grabs you-- when he tells you in a scratchy voice, "CLOWN HAS YOU NOW! CLOWN HAS YOU FOREVER!" when he shoves your head in his jaws and chews your hair, it's all so much and you can't help but scream.

God, it hates that noise.

It's fine- prefferable, even- when it comes from other people. But from you? Oh, christ, it's unbearable. Makes him want to hurt you if it'd get you to be quiet. But at the same time, your voice is just... so wonderful, so intoxicating, and it'd be nice if he could hear you call him good for once.

He loves you- that's what he tells himself. That's what xey want to believe.

But god, sometimes it'd be better if you were just another warm body to bite into.

his initials are KWH, and his name means Punch/Clown Smart Jester because haha funy

He came to Nexus because he was offered a lot of good things! And he was promised that he'd be doing good things!

Nevada has a problem with the population; it's in a state of constant rapid decline, thanks to the violent nature of Nevadeans and the fact that they can't actually reproduce :/ the clones were originally supposed to be a way to curb that decline; can't lose your population if you're constantly cloning it, right? They were also weaponized as a way to hopefully stop the constant fighting, but Phobos ended up using this for his own benefit.

Hofnarr had slowly begun to lose faith in Phobos's vision, after witnessing first hand how Phobos was selling the clones for other factions to build their armies, after witnessing him hire MERC for the creation of better, more efficient weapons, all to perpetuate war and fighting. He helped Christoff and Sheriff communicate, acting as a median between those two, as Christoff was on Phobos's watch list.

Eventually, Phobos caught on.

He got the harmacists from the seeking asylum to do something bad :] now Hofnarr is dependant on Nexus (moreso the byproduct of the cloning project), and he doesn't remember what made him distrust Phobos in the first place.

It takes a lot of convincing from Christoff to get Hofnarr to fight those agents during the outbreak. (actually, the convincing doesn't even work. the agents shooting at them did the trick).

After Christoff leaves off into the main tower where Phobos is, Hofnarr is alone. He goes into his lab to get any last things, but something else happens to him.

When Christoff comes back to get Hofnarr, he isn't the same person.

I'm sure I've got more but I can't remember it right now.

Hofnarr before leaving the project nexus, caused a BIG MESS. He literally killed like half of the laburatory staff and agents on the palce, with help of Tricky and Trick; it was know as the "nexus circus accident". The few people who survived wheren't there at the time, including Christoff.

Two Tricky's reside in this AU, yes, but only one will be answering on his AU's behalf. Tricky the Clown and Tricks, one a feral clown-man and one is what formerly Doctor Hofnarr has become. Tricky, a unit of a man with literally flaming red hair, is known for his unruly anger that's rarely moderated by anyone. He's not going to censor himself for anyone but his beloved, who wishes to remain anonymous. Tricky will definitely tell who it is upon being asked, so his lover's identity won't remain a secret forever.
