Boring OC drama. From the spin off that haunted me after Thresholds, 30k and like everything, it languishes in my wip drawer. Previous snippets here, here, and here. Dathomir witch culture is my thang, even without my faves. Eren’s story is ~fascinating to me, because of course it would be.
“But when Vesha was of mating age?”
Aytell squinted then shook his head.
“You do not recall?”
“When Vesha asked me to her room she had to have been no more than fourteen seasons,” he said as if it were of no significance.
“Just like that?” Eren felt his brows draw together. That hadn’t been that different from how he’d come to her bed. Somehow he’d thought Aytell would have gotten more overtures from her.
“Certainly not.” Aytell went back to washing. “She was young and Mother Treyu demanded much of her. I shared her bed like a brother for several seasons.”
Eren snorted though he knew it was true, because it was Aytell. “Spinning falsehoods.”
Aytell splashed water at him and Eren gestured. The droplets hung in the air, sunlight sparkling through them.
“Swaggerer,” Aytell chided good naturedly, but his voice soon became grave. “Take care with Othira. She is too young to hold her tongue.”
Eren released his hold on the Force. He didn’t like the note of fear that snaked under Aytell’s words, knowing where it came from. Another unexpected fortune of Vesha leaving Mother Treyu’s hearth was the lack of questions about where Eren was gone or why he’d returned to Vesha’s hearth if he was now free. Unlike Singing Mountain, the Flatirons were ruled by custom more than law. None of them truly knew how the Flatirons would react to having a male spellcaster in their midst.
“Should anyone ever take up a hand or spell against you, husband,” Vesha had said simply after he’d returned the first time. “I will make it so that no one else will dare think it again.”
It’d been one of the few times Aytell had raised his voice at her, telling her not to ever put such a thing to words, the sharp panic in his sense quelling any harsh retort Vesha might have had. Eren understood it too. As much as he’d loved her for it, that warmth was tempered by how much he feared. For Vesha to be judged tainted by darkness would mean her being taken from them, from Othira -- thrown into the inhospitable ranges for seven seasons. At best.
At worst Mother Treyu would put her to death outright. This was not Singing Mountain.

Me doing closeups so I don't have to draw armor *thinskmart.jpg*
“Why are you being so quiet and polite about the whole thing?”
“Pardon?”
“Aren’t you angry?” he snaps. “I lied to you. I poisoned you. I nearly killed your precious brother, and then you. Then I humiliated you, kidnapped you, and just now, I treated you like I own you.”
“I guess you did.”
“Aren’t you angry?!” he asks me again.
“I probably should be,” I mutter.
I’m sorry, Seroth, but I’m really happy with you right now.
He’s at one count of murder, one count of poisoning, one count of divine vandalism, and one count of arson. [...] Heck, as far as your average fantasy adventuring party goes, Seroth is solidly average on the morality scale!
Since you're the final boss in the original game, I'd say this transmigration is going swimmingly!

Moar OC bullshit
“But this work is for Mother Asor?”
“It is good to work for a different clan mother once in a while,” he said and lowered his voice. “They say there are tensions in the council.”
Eren felt his brows go up and thought of what Vesha had mentioned weeks ago. “The Hapans?” he murmured.
Isar nodded and looked around before lowering his head to whisper, “Rumors are that they came bearing meat, grain, fabric, and even a living jewel and presented it all to the council for permission to open trade, just a few months ago.”
“A living jewel?” Eren echoed. That sounded like a story. He’d seen Hapans at Singing Mountain, even talked to a few in the markets, and he’d never heard of such a thing.
“You could buy a dozen starships with just one, and their leader was so beautiful she made Mother Yu look as if she would kneel at her feet. A woman unlike any you would ever lay eyes on, the only way to talk to her was if she wore cloth covering her face. Otherwise her beauty would strip the words from your tongue.”
Eren flashed him a skeptical look. All that talk was excessive. Hapans were beautiful but hardly to that degree. He’d never seen one wear cover their face either.
“You jest.”
“No. They made Mother Treyu wary and she turned them away. Told them the Western Flatirons had no need for their luxuries.”
“I heard that.”
“Yes, well Mother Asor disagreed.”
“But she cannot possibly challenge the Earth Shaker,” Eren whispered back. “No one can.”
Even Eren for all of Mother Treyu’s failings couldn’t find a reason to remove her from head of council. Mother Treyu had proven she would lay down everything for the clan, and beyond. Mothers like that received a mandate from Allya spirit herself to guide the clan’s fortunes. All a challenger would do would be embarrass herself and turn herself into an outcast.
“Maybe so, but I heard from my sister who smithies at Mother Asor’s hearth that she’d told the Hapans to come back in a years time. To come as few and quietly settle among us and show us their wonders. She wants the clan to clamor to Mother Treyu -- should it clamor loudly enough Mother Treyu will not be able to expel the Hapans. She will be forced to open the Flatirons to them. There is already talk of Hapan overtures to Windy Peaks further west and to Blue Glades up north. The Flatirons will follow suit.”
Isar gestured to the hauling rancors being yelled commands. “While the clan assumes we are constructing a home for Mother Asor’s eldest and her husband, that is not so.” He smiled at Eren, like one keeping a secret. “This will be the first Hapan settlement in the Flatirons.”

It with shame I continue writing about my OC’s dramaz. I’m not ready to leave Dathomir just yet.
When I finish and post this though, I’ll do it at the same time as another L/M I have done. That makes me feel a little better.
But apparently I felt like writing about the absurdism of trying to have an adult argument around a toddler.
Eren washed at the basin and settled for some meditation. After, he went out to Othira’s exuberant greeting.
She toddled over to him and plopped herself on his lap announcing, “Feed Apa!” as he reached for his bowl.
“Lisaya is a rabble rouser,” Aytell said noncommittally.
Othira had grabbed the spoon and brought it clumsily to his mouth, Eren leaned slightly so it wouldn’t spill and she beamed. He passed a hand through her hair absentmindedly.
“I don’t give a fig about Lisaya,” he muttered. “It was Vesha who let her.”
“You must take care, Eren. If it is known--”
Eren felt his ire rise. “How can you--”
Othira was pushing the spoon at his face. “Apa eat!”
He was forced to eat the mouthful while glaring at Aytell. He swallowed, without even tasting it.
“You are allied with her as you always are,” Eren hissed. “I should not expect otherwise.”
“If you should take concern--”
“I am no longer a boy, I am a Jedi--”
“Apa, eat!”
Eren looked skyward as he opened his mouth, Othira laughed as she scooped more food into his mouth.
“Apa good eat,” she announced, patting his face. “Very good eat.” Looking at her Eren let his ire seep out and brought her sticky palm to his lips for a kiss.
“You are an apprentice,” Aytell corrected. “And if Hapans are looked at without favor, there is little reason to think such a thing might be anything but troublesome.”
“That is not what is at stake here.” Eren maneuvered to catch some porridge with his hand before it fell from Othira’s spoon, reaching for a washcloth to wipe it as Othira started stirring the porridge in the bowl. “It was Vesha who wanted me to lie --”
“And you did so to Yuri, so what is the problem?”
“Yuri is not the viper Lisaya is.” He adjusted Othira's hand so her vigorous stirring of the porridge wouldn't spill it more. “Vesha should have stood before me --”
“First you are a Jai and now you wish to hide behind your wife.”
He sucked in a breath. “You have no--”
“Apa, eat!” Othira lifted up her spoon.
“Last bite, sweeting,” he told her, shooting Aytell another glare. “Apa is not very hungry.”
Aytell continued evenly, “Do you not see how dangerous it might be for the clan to know? Vesha can no longer protect us. She has already drawn enough of Mother Treyu’s ire.”
Eren swallowed the mouthful and stood up with Othira who whooped, half of the porridge from her spoon splattering on her face, hair, and tunic, the other half on Eren’s arm.
“I no longer need Vesha’s protection,” he told Aytell, bending to grab the washcloth to give Othira and himself a cursory wipe down in quick jerky motions.
“The Jai teach arrogance now?”
Eren wiped down his tunic without troubling himself to reply.
“I think a dip in the stream might do us good,” he told Othira. “Then a ride on Ashla?”
She nodded. “Asha, Asha!”
“Or selfishness? You are placing Vesha in harm’s way You are placing us all in harm’s way for your pride and it is stu-”
Eren turned to him. “Never speak that way to me before the child I sired.”
Aytell took a step back.
“Yaya?” Othira leaned slightly towards Aytell.
Something turned in Eren’s chest at the expression on Aytell's face, but he made himself dismiss it. He was no longer a boy. Aytell would do well to remember it.
“Let’s leave Yaya to his breakfast,” he murmured to Othira.
“Yaya?” she said, uncertain, and burst into tears.
