Bioware missed an opportunity by not having the inquisitor's family/clan/mercenary group make an appearance in Skyhold. It would have given a nice lull in world saving and expand on your Inquisitor's past a bit more. Like can you imagine your Inquisitor being woken up in the morning by Josephine rushing into your chambers to tell you your family/clan/mercenary group has basically invaded Skyhold within the small hours of the morning and are demanding/asking to see you? What would your inquisitor's reaction be?

It is really funny in the grand scheme of things that Juleic becomes The Inquisitor. You mean that Bann Trevelyan's fourth child and third son is The Herald of Andraste? The one who was a troublesome little thing at Lucille's summer balls who couldn't sit still or pay attention or keep up to his siblings' leading examples? The sole mage in a family renown for servicing the Templars-- how ironic! The boy whose family would rather not talk about if they can help it because sending him away to the circle was more convenience than having to deal with him? that boy?

siblings 😭❤️😭❤️😭
I was lucky to commission @plisuu to do this art of my Trevelyan siblings, Acacia and Drew. Look at them!! Staff work builds muscle and he would absolutely be a menace to her about it.
thank you so much sterling, I adore them and will treasure this <3

2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 for your trevelyans!
2. What were their expectations going into the Conclave?
sander's genuinely just trying to find his siblings and get the hell out of ferelden. he would like it if they changed things but he’s not hopeful and wants to be far away from this place when it falls apart lol
thea's cautiously hopeful. the war's pretty clearly at a stalemate, with no clear path towards tipping the odds to their side & she’s already had to do some things she’s not proud of to get to this point. she needs this not to drag on any longer.
4. Was there anything in their life they were looking forwards to doing once the Conclave was done?
sander’s kind of hoping he’ll be able to find some excuse to cross paths with the valo-kas again :’)
thea literally is just hoping to survive without getting executed or made tranquil…. she is so paranoid for real.
under the cut as we start to get into the heavier stuff 😈
5. What was the Herald of Andraste's opinion about the Chantry and the war before the explosion?
they both start out extremely bitter towards the chantry for related reasons, though not exactly the same. thea was already 16 by the time she (very publicly) discovered she was a mage, and it threw her whole life into disarray. prior to the conclave this resentment is all externalised and placed squarely on the chantry. similarly with sander, he deeply resents his parents’ devotion which he sees as having torn his family apart. they sent thea away without even giving him a chance to say goodbye for the sake of “keeping up appearances” and they were going to sign away his future to the templars just to avoid scandal! he believes in the maker, sure, but he does not feel positively about the southern chantry.
6. Is the Herald impacted by Justinia's death? Or do they move on quickly?
sander feels nothing in particular about justinia’s death. he was kind of expecting her to be assassinated by one side or the other. what he’s terrified of is that his siblings might have died at the conclave and he has no way of knowing for sure. most of the bodies aren’t in any identifiable state (and he does try, at the temple, trying to find any markers that it might be them)
thea is horrified when they tell her and actually does think they might be correctly accusing her. she feels inexplicably sick with guilt and there’s a gaping hole in her memory. it could be that she did murder the divine. she must have murdered someone. after all, she’s only felt this particular type of guilt once before :)
8. How do they feel about the mark on their hand?
ohohoho. the short answer is that they’re both fucking insane about it.
sander’s extremely shaken by it at the start. it hurts! it feels like it’s tearing straight through him as it expands! it’s only after reaching solas that it goes from terror -> curiosity. bc solas does something to close that rift. which means he knows something about it. so it’s just an unfamiliar tool, not some incomprehensible horror. as to what placed that mark on his hand though….. he does really, earnestly wonder about this especially in the early days. is it the maker? could it be? he comes to believe it was, and the eventual revelation that it was solas’ orb, that the anchor was just another part of his plan that went wrong… oh there is murder in his heart after that. experiencing levels of rage heretofore unknown.
with thea….. it’s completely different. she sees it as something like a stigmata. there’s a story the southern chantry tells about how archon hessarian’s sword grew hot from the flames and seared into his palm at the hilt, branding him for his sin such that no healing magic could soothe the wound. that mark stayed with him for to the end of his days. for thea, just as the brand marked the archon for his part in the prophet’s death, the anchor is a mark of her guilt. she first thinks it’s for the murder of the divine, but eventually comes to realise that it was her murder of her brother (damian) that haunted her :)
9. How do they react upon being called the Herald of Andraste?
sander feels so trapped by it at first. he plays into it immediately because i mean, what else are you going to do when people who were accusing you of murder moments ago now see u as their hope for salvation? tell them to fuck off? the mob could turn on him at any moment so he is playing to them. in the long run, this will be his ruin, because being the herald leaves increasingly little for anything else to remain under that mask. it whittles away at him until the herald is all that’s left!
thea is horrified by it, because where people see a blessing at her left hand, she sees a curse! if the maker has marked her out as anything it’s as a sinner!!!!!! she takes on the mantle as well because she feels taking people’s hope away would be even crueler but she feels like she is playing with fire as she does. she wonders whether it won’t just make the maker angrier in the end.
10. What are the Herald's opinion on the Mage Rebellion and on mage rights?
pro-mage baybeeeeeeeeeee (at the start anyway)
sander thinks the circles are fucked given how they’ve torn his family apart, and thinks there has to be a better way to go about things than locking mages up and throwing away the key. he does come around somewhat on viv’s view that people are too frightened to accept so much change so quickly, and that getting rid of circles could put mages in danger from those who fear them (guess who he backs for divine)
thea deeply resents the way her entire life was thrown into disarray after becoming a mage and the total loss of freedom as a circle mage. she wants them gone. unfortunately her guilt and self-hatred after the conclave is going to lead to a WILD 180 turn and she will end up seeing her past rage and resentment as evil borne from being a mage, and begin to see her previous oppression as justified. mages can’t be trusted with freedom, look what they i did.
11. Who does the Herald of Andraste help - the Mages or the Templars? Why did they choose them?
sander goes to the templars, not because he believes in their cause by any means but as a political maneuver to bring them to heel under the inquisition. he disbands them and conscripts them into the inquisition’s ranks immediately.
on the flipside, thea goes to the rebel mages because she fears what damage they might do if they’re not brought under the inquisition. its not politics for her, it’s real fear! she means to gently bring them into the fold, initially, but after seeing that they were willing to work with a tevinter magister….. she conscripts them. she will not let them go astray as she has gone astray!
14. What type of Inquisitor are they? What are their motivations? How do they lead?
sander’s far more politically shrewd between the two of them since his life has always depended on other people’s opinion of him! he’s much more comfortable playing The Game, and he’s much more open to unorthodox approaches and points of views. he’s willing to hear sera out more often than not! once he’s fulfilled his initial goal (getting his siblings back safely) he begins to think more on whether there is some divine purpose to having been inquisitor, and concludes that maybe it was so he could help set things right. this unfortunately is the start of him taking the role of inquisitors more seriously….. and being far less open to hearing others out. it’s not immediate! but it does get to him, and he does begin to see others giving him advice as them trying to lead him astray/manipulate him into pursuing their own agenda. it’s not a a great trajectory from there!
thea on the other hand is motivated by guilt and fear the whole way through. the exact shape of those guilts and fears changes pretty significantly over time, but she ultimately views the role of herald/inquisitor as her penance throughout. mages have broken the world (again) and she must do her best fix that, in order to atone.
15. Since religion is a major component of DAI, is your Inquisitor religious? What do they believe in?
they’re both andrastian though…. as you can see, the exact shape of their beliefs is a bit complicated?? they both find faith & a renewed relationship with the maker through the role of inquisitor, but I wouldn’t say this is a good thing for either (even if the self-destructive nature is more obvious for thea).
post-trespasser u could say sander is no longer andrastian though! the maker is gone if he was ever real at all and the gods that remain are cruel and indifferent (and he intends to see him them pay)

Rook's personality is definitely reminiscent of Hawke's which is probably why Varric picked them but my personal Crypt Baby Rook lore is that Rook is in fact Hawke's second cousin once removed that was left in the Necropolis by Amell's sister who was on the run from the Templars after fleeing the circle when she found out she was pregnant in hopes of being able to raise her child in a place that didn't inherently fear magic only to be caught and cornered with her only solace being she managed to get her baby somewhere that they wouldn't be reviled for being a mage. Though the dead were certainly confused about why there was a newborn baby chilling in the Necropolis.
Rook will never know who her mother was or what happened to her but also an incredibly funny cosmic coincidence that Amell women (almost) always happen to be at the scene of the crime when Thedas is in trouble considering Rook is the Hero of Ferelden's niece and the Champion of Kirkwall's second cousin (once removed).
It's also my headcanon on why Morrigan was so sure Rook was going to be the hero the world needed because she took one look at Rook, went "that's an Amell alright" (because Rook is almost the spitting image of the HoF) and Morrigan knew the world was going to be in good, if irreverent, hands.

My canon worldstate for Dragon Age
template here, by @omgkalyppso
ages are as of 9:52 Dragon, which I'm fairly certain is the start date of The Veilguard (but I may be mistaken).
I changed the template a bit since I wasn't really sure how to word "origin" for all three girls, so I changed it to class/specialization.
Lots of misc. information under the cut bc I can't help myself:
I forgot to put it in her actual sheet because I just assumed everyone would assume this, but Fiora is married to Alistair and they rule Ferelden together.
Fiora did the ritual with Morrigan and Alistair. Her reasoning was that it would be easier for Alistair if she was there (and it was), but she was also harboring a crush on Morrigan she knew wouldn't go anywhere, so this was as close as she would get. Alistair was also aware of this, and fine with it. They already had a threesome with Isabela, after all.
Fiora's mabari is named Jorah. In universe I pretend it's the name of a storybook hero she likes. Out of universe he's named for Jorah Mormont from Game of Thrones, which I was obsessed with at the time lol.
Marian really only ever traveled with Fenris, Merrill, Carver, and Sebastian. In Act 1, before Sebastian was available, she used Isabela. She's on lukewarm to awful terms with everyone else. She kicked Anders out fairly early in Act 2.
Varric's nickname for her is "Needles" - small, sharp, and related to both sewing and healing. I wanted to use Stitches but one of Bull’s Chargers already has that name lol.
The ‘small’ part comes from the fact that Marian is 5'2'' - making her the second shortest in the DA2 group aside from Varric, the actual dwarf.
Marian's mabari is named Brick, because she found him abadoned in a pile of bricks near an unfinished house by Lothering. Out of universe, he's named for Brick from the Borderlands series, who I've always thought looked like if a mabari was human.
Hildegarde's hair was originally a chestnut brown, but interacting directly with the orb/going physically through the Fade changed it to white. She doesn't realize this until someone points it out to her fter she's named Herald of Andraste. Her eyes, already green, become a more vivid shade matching that of the Rifts. She hates these changes.
Varric's nickname for her is Bunny - she's very skittish and anxious, plus the white hair.
The mabari that Cullen finds in Orlais is named Lapin. The Orlesian who owned him named him that, so it's what he responds to. Cullen finds it amusing that Lapin means "rabbit", the animal people tend to associate with Hildegarde. He jokes that surely it was a sign from the Maker that Cullen and Hilde were meant to take him in.
Hildegarde reforms the Inquisition as Divine Victoria's peacekeeping force. She serves as Vivienne's right hand woman, dividing her time between that and helping Cullen run his clinic for lyrium-addicted templars. They live in Val Royeaux, but own homes in the now peaceful Emerald Graves and Emprise du Lion.
By the time of DA: The Veilguard, they all have children. Fiora and Alistair have a daughter named Bryce (7 years old); Marian and Sebastian have twins, Davinia and Dominic (10 years old) and Marian is currently pregnant with their third child; Hildegarde and Cullen have two children, a son named Ethan (6 years old) and a daughter named Hannelore (4 years old). They'll have three more kids after The Veilguard's story (as long as BioWare doesn't kill the Inquisitor...).

Hey. Hey Wolf. I’ve got a Brennan question. What’s his relationship like with his siblings? I definitely will not use this information for evil or angst.
BAD. I usually do close sibling relationships, you've seen the comedy duo that's me and my brother, I'm just writing what I know but I wanted Brennan estranged.
Evelyn and Maxwell were very close as kids, only two years apart, and were 8 and 6 when Brennan was born so that gap was felt.
Evelyn I think holds a small grudge against him because it was her debut ball that he caused the first scandal. I've never nailed down the details but it was some prank that went wrong and his parents felt extremely humiliated at their son having done it. Brennan just did it for attention and had a ten year old's common sense. So yeah. Very distant. Evelyn rarely speaks to him when they're in the same room amd Brennan's fine with that thank you. The most they've ever spoken was at a party where she gave him a genuine compliment on how well he'd navigated a social interaction. They made polite small talk and Brennan thought he'd fallen in an alternate reality for five minutes.
Maxwell was Evelyn's best friend growing up and as a result does what he can to help her. One thing he can do, since she hosts events these days, and their parents aid in that, is he's free to corral Brennan. Brennan does not appreciate his brother assigning himself chaperone, and usually attempts to ditch him somehow. Brennan has never met Maxwell's children. Maxwell fears he'd be a bad influence, and Brennan also suspects that Maxwell had an extra child to send to the Chantry to be a templar to make up for someone's scandal. Maxwell for his part treats Brennan like he needs constant supervision and often makes passive comments to make Brennan feel shitty to keep him in place.
Their parents do nothing to foster better relationships between them, Brennan thinks they're relieved Maxwell babysits him at formal affairs.

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?
Cyril struggles with anger sometimes, and deals with grief very poorly. This is touched upon a bit in chapter two in a very brief manner, and will be explored further throughout his route. He has somewhere to direct it towards, so it doesn't necessarily manifest unhealthily, but he's also not going about things in a very good manner lol
Malcolm does poorly with grief. No, forging a really big sword is not a substitute for therapy. Yes, it is very cool.
D struggles with most emotions, but has the hardest time with affection.
E does not do well with guilt.
JJ has no idea what to do with happiness.
A is fine*, they have no idea what the hell is wrong with the rest of these people??

Have you ever thought about doing a run of inquisition where instead of arthur trevelyan surviving the conclave it was his sister?
haven’t thought it through in detail but since they were both there it’s the obvious au isn’t it! man. evelyn as inquisitor. dark fucking days for thedas. actually, i don’t know, maybe she could character arc her way out. but equally maybe not. she does suck, it has to be said
(i recognise that evelyn is the default name for f!trevelyan lmao i gave two of arthur’s siblings the default trev names. sorry for the slander to anyone’s evelyns who do not suck)
evelyn is straight up a templar, to be clear. i can only imagine her making templar as hell choices. she would definitely believe she was the herald of andraste and declare the inquisition in the name of faith and whatnot. she’s Like That. on the other hand... she did love her brother once. she does love her brother still, right up until the end, even if she couldn’t admit it anymore. i can’t decide if arthur dying at the conclave would shake her enough to make her rethink her life choices or if the grief she doesn’t want to admit would just make her double down. oh god i just remembered arthur’s little girl. okay the baby (still undecided on name sorry) losing her adopted dad too would be so so bad but evelyn suddenly having to become thedas’ most grudging mage rights activist because if anything happens to her niece she just found out existed she’ll kill everyone in this continent and then herself WOULD be the funniest timeline

( okay I’ve decided that for the sake of RP and me trying to actually get organized for once in my life I will have three main Dragon Age world states!
Default/main state: Amara Cousland as Hero of Ferelden, Leanore Hawke as Champion of Kirkwall, Evelyn Trevelyan as Inquisitor.
Or as I like to call it, my Bad Ass Lady Trio state. Unless otherwise discussed or requested I will default to these three with any other Warden, Hawke, or Inquisitor OCs of mine being companions for their main verses. The other two world states however include:
Secondary state, or as I like to call it the “Feral Hobgoblin Trio”: Aurelia Tabris as HoF, Callum Hawke as Champion, Declan Trevelyan as Inquisitor
The world of Thedas may get saved. Or it may end up burning instead. It’s yet to be determined.
Lastly the “Gay Mage Boys” trio: Oliver Amell (actually pansexual but we’ll forgive that technicality), Kenton Hawke, and Maxwell Trevelyan.
They’ll get the shit done, kiss their handsome men, and mostly avoid fucking shit up. … mostly.
A couple of my wardens also have HoF verses, and my Lavellan does as well. But for the most part they are all simply companions for the Warden, Hawke, or Inquisitor :) )
