I just want to vent here for a second
This self- diagnosis shit has to stop. I know it was prevalent on this website a while ago and has seemed to die down, but people that quickly Google their symptoms and go around telling everyone that they have such and such disorder is really harmful to people that have actual medical conditions.
Because of my twin I didn't have enough room to develop properly inside the womb, and as a result my right leg didn't form correctly. The hip is rotated in the socket, the leg is about an inch shorter than the other, and the Achilles tendon was underdeveloped, so when I was born I was essentially on my tip toes and learned to walk as such. The doctors did what they could to fix things with physical therapy and casts/ braces when I was about a year or so old. I played sports when I was a teenager so that more or less accounted for physical therapy and it doesn't bother me too much any more pain wise, but I do have a limited range of mobility.
So I went to the gynecologist recently and when I got up in the stirrups I had to physically pick my leg up and maneuver it in place (like you see people with arthritis do or like in movies where people have old war injuries) and even then I wasn't able to properly spread my knees apart. The doctor asked me what was going on and I gave her the tldr and she straight up asked me where I got the idea in my head that my leg wasn't in the socket right. 1) The pediatrician that first diagnosed it when I was an infant. 2) My physical therapist from when I was an infant/ toddler. 3) The chiropractor that I had been going to since I was ten who didn't even KNOW that I had had all these problems when I first started going to him.
Now obviously I understand that saying "dont self diagnose sweetie :)" isn't as simple as that. I understand that doctors won't always believe you if you say that something might be wrong. All I'm trying to say is that if you think you might have x, y, or z condition, please see a medical professional to get a second opinion and for the love of God, The Universe, or whatever PLEASE don't go around saying that you're ill for attention or because you think it's trendy, because it genuinely harms the people that are because those of us who are aren't taken seriously, and while my experience was a minor inconvenience at the most, I shudder to think of the people with less obvious/ more serious illnesses who are brushed aside because someone thinks it's cool to say that they're, "like, totally bipolar uwu."
Tl;dr: I know getting a medical diagnosis isn't always possible, but frivolously assigning yourself a medical condition is harmful to the people who are genuinely ill so please please PLEASE don't do that.
#rant#vent#personal#sorry if this came across as ableist#or preachy#feel free to dm me#if this came across as problematic#self diagnosis#anti self diagnosis#anti self dx#doctors

It may be difficult at
It may be difficult at first when you're looking at a saddle to determine exactly what type of Western riding it suited for. Many of them have separate modifications according to the type of sports that the saddles going to be used for. These will include modifications to the horn, the back, the leg position, and even the cinching position. If you are new to horse riding and you would like to ride on a western saddle, then you can choose just about any saddle that you can afford and that fits you and the horse - however buying quality is an absolute must! The world of Western riding is various, and in today's world the saddles can become rather specialized. Remember if you are just starting out that it is nice to choose a competition saddle that will fit your riding discipline, but if you're going to be riding Western, just about any Western saddle will do as long as it fits you and the horse. So make sure that you choose a quality saddle over something that is trendy and fashionable and that it fits you both well.In reining events, a reining saddle, with its low seat, free swinging fenders and thinner stirrup leathers, are all designed to show off the conformation and precision of the horse. When looking at a reining saddle, you'll also find that there is no flank cinch, and the rigging is dropped in order to reduce the bulk that occurs under the rider's legs.

15 White Sneakers to Wear 24/7/365
Footwear has always been my favorite part of dressing. When getting dressed, I work my way from the floor to the ceiling: Oftentimes, an outfit will be born out of what shoes I want to wear. Historically, I’ve been one to wear a five inch platform sandal on a walk or a velvet Mary Jane in the rain. As of late, though, I’ve found myself gravitating toward my sneakers, specifically my flat, low-top white ones. I have three pairs I rotate through… and, truthfully, they’re the only shoes left out in my apartment right now. Not only practical for walking, I love how clean and classic sneakers are. They’re a desirable double whammy:easy to wear with anything and fun to dress up.
White sneakers aren’t a revelation—wearing them is nothing new and definitely not trend-based, but I recently went through and rounded up some of my favorites out there if you too would like a go-to pair of crisp, classic shoes that won’t cause blisters, look great with anything, and are wearable year-round.
Adidas Superstar: The Original
My original favorite all-white sneaker is the Adidas Superstar. I got my first pair in 9th grade and remember wearing them throughout that entire summer. Because they’re leather, they’re very easy to clean and durable (should you get caught in a rain storm as I have countless times). Recently, I’ve been eyeing this sleek pair from Adidas and actually own the Childish Gambino Continental pair that are a lot like these ones and love those, too.
See All 1
Feiyue Authentic Fe Lo 1920 Heritage Shoe: Light as a Feather
This past summer, my everyday (and I mean every single day) shoe has been this $25 martial arts sneaker by Feiyue. The original version of the sneaker—made in Shanghai in the 1920s—is popular for martial arts because of their lightweight sole. While they’re not 100% white, I love the accents of red and blue on the sides.
See All 1
Onitsuka Tiger GSM Sneaker: An Athletic Option
Onitsuka Tiger originated as a youthful Japanese athletic footwear brand. They’re lightweight yet sturdy, and provide adequate support for days of long walking. The GSM style is a low-top, flat and all-white sneaker, which makes them versatile (thoughI also love their Lawnship style which is very similar to their more recognizable Serrano sneaker with the red and white logo, on sale here).
See All 1
Keds Champion Sneaker: The ‘80s Sneaker
I got myself a pair of Keds specifically to wear with stirrup leggings because they are so low—I liked that you could catch a glimpse of the stirrups’ straps. They’re an easy canvas sneaker, which also come in leather if that’s more your speed. Keds have a fantastic ‘80s vibe, most likely because Jennifer Grey wore them in Dirty Dancing (1987).
See All 1
M. Gemi The Lucente: The “Black Tie” of White Sneakers
I jokingly call these the “Black Tie” of white sneakers because they are so crisp and clean—I envision them with a pantsuit or wide leg trousers. They feel like a “mature fashion editor sneaker” to me. They’re on the more expensive side, but you truly can wear them with any outfit from track shorts to trousers.
See All 1
Mandeaux Marcus: Versatile (in men’s sizing)
Similar to M.Gemi’s pair, Mandeaux’s Marcus is another pair you can dress up with ease. There’s no branding, so they’re a veritable blank canvas for any outfit. Heads up: these are men’s, so if you’re lucky enough to find your corresponding size, I’d grab a pair of these.
See All 1
J.Crew Road Trip Canvas Sneaker: The Blank Canvas
Speaking of blank canvases! This J.Crew style clocks in at $34.50 (they’re on sale) and while more casual than M.Gemi or Mandeaux’s pairs because they’re canvas, they have no branding on them and are a great classic, flat sneaker option.
See All 1
Superga Cotu Classic: The Trendy Number
This pair is the most “trendy” of the bunch. They were super popular a few years ago but have remained on many an Instagrammed foot. I really like their newer style too, the Clubs Sneaker. It has a bit of a higher top to it, making it look more like the Adidas Superstar. And don’t forget the Cotu slip on if that’s your jam.
See All 1
Nike Air Force 1s: The Statement Sneaker
The Nike Air Force 1 is an iconic New York Streetwear staple. It has the most iconic and distinguishable silhouette with a thicker sole than most of the others in this roundup. That thick sole makes these shoes a rare winter sneaker. It’s probably why many customers own more than one pair.
See All 1
MoneyYatti Drip Walkers: A Hint of Glamour
These croc-embossed leather sneakers—which come in women’s and men’s sizing—are handmade in Italy. These are the kind of shoes you can wear with, and that can easily jazz up, leggings and a T-shirt (my personal quarantine uniform) while still looking incredibly cool. The brand suggests that you size down half a size.
See All 1
Cariuma OCA Low: A Sustainable Pair
I love Cariuma’s OCA Low because, like Superga’s Cotu sneaker, it’s an easy canvas sneaker with a lower rise on the top bridge, exposing some extra ankle. Plus, these are super easy to put on (you can even slide your foot in with the laces tied). The best part about the Rio-based brand is they maintain ethical factories and give back to their community and fellow eco-friendly organizations. This specific pair is 100% vegan.
See All 1
Veja Lock Sneakers: The Easy Option
I haven’t worn a velcro sneaker since the days before I learned how to tie laces, but this pair from Veja is very, very cool. Veja is a French brand that’s manufactured in Brazil with sustainable materials.
See All 1
Reebok Club Classic Sneaker: The Vintage Vibe
A classic tennis shoe from the ‘80s, the Reebok Club Classics resonate with their timelessness and downtown vibes. They have incredible arch support for such a flat sneaker, and while this round- up is technically all-white sneakers, I do love their shade of off-white and that subtle green Reebok logo. I’m also a big fan of this pair with the gum sole.
See All 1
Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Sneaker: The Cool Pair
No sneaker round-up can leave out the classic Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars, and this monochrome white pair fits the criteria. A little less of a statement than the original with the red trim, this pair with the classic toe cap and to-the-ankle lacing is the epitome of cool footwear.
See All 1
Keexs Classic 3.0: The Pop of Color
If you happen to desire a touch of color, African social-oriented shoe brand Keexs has a classic white vegan leather low-top with red lining and red laces. If you’re looking for a happy medium, you could also swap out the red laces for white ones and just flaunt that bit of red lining. So cool.

There are so many white low-top flat sneakers out there. Do you have a favorite one to add to this list? Do tell in the comments below!

Horseback Riding Boots for Beginners
You’ve decided to take up horseback riding – exciting! But what are the best beginner horseback riding boots?
To truly get the most out of the experience and ensure you don’t miss out, you need to invest in a few pieces of crucial gear like helmet, pants and boots. The shoes and boots that most people have in their closets will not make for an enjoyable ride and could even jeopardize your safety, so read on for some pointers about the right footwear.
Horseback Riding Footwear Must-haves
1-Inch to 2-inch tall heel. While riding – and especially for new riders – it’s possible for a foot to slip through the stirrups. Not comfortable and not safe. A modest height heel will stop that from happening.
Moderate traction on the sole of the boot. Your sole will be the main part of your foot that’s touching the stirrup and you don’t want it to slide.
…But not too much traction. A hiking boot, or a similar boot with deep treads, may get jammed in the stirrup in case of a fall. Hiking boots are also bulky and boxy which are hard to get in and out of stirrups.
Enclosed foot. Don’t even dream of wearing flip-flops or sandals; I don’t want to imagine your foot if a horse steps on it! Your shoes need to offer some degree of protection in case this happens.
No laces near the foot. Laces – and tongues – can get caught in the stirrups or other nearby gear. Certain footwear – field boots, riding sneakers – do have laces, riding boot manufacturers have made these laces safe. Your average running shoes are not.
Horse Riding Boot Styles and Footwear Styles
There are many different styles of boots so choose whatever feels good on your feet, fits your budget and is suitable for your type of riding.
Important note: Before you explore your options below, if you are taking up riding to compete in a specific discipline like dressage, jumping, etc, check with the organization that governs your competitions for any riding boot requirements they have.
First of all, boots can be divided into English riding boots and Western riding boots.
English Riding Boots
These boots were specifically designed for English-style riding, in which the stirrup leathers can chafe, rub or even pinch your legs if you don’t have the right gear (boots and/or pants).
The boots are mostly made out of leather but can also be made out of materials like PVC and rubber. In addition to choices about material, English riding boots come in several different styles, generally falling into one of two categories: tall riding boots and short riding boots.
On a side note, many English riders also ride draft horses. They are awesome, and if you are looking for horseback riding boots for beginners because you have a draft horse then click on the link to head over to that article and see all about them.
Tall riding boots (eg: dress boots, dressage boots, field boots, Footwear)
As the name suggests – states outright, in fact – tall riding boots are tall and come most of the way up your calf. These stylish numbers were seen in Downton Abbey and have long been considered the standard for English horseback riding.
If you’re getting a tall boot, know that there are calf widths to choose from in addition to shoe widths.
Dress boots:
Rigid and relatively inflexible: rather than being a bad thing, this is actually helpful to give extra stability while riding
Style tip: that piece that comes up higher only on the outside of the knee on some boots is called a ‘Spanish Top’
Field boots:
Look similar to dress boots but are more flexible, and this flexibility can have a noticeable, positive impact if you’re in jumping competitions
Most easily differentiated from dress boots by the laces on the top of the foot at the ankle; dress boots are smooth across the top. (Were you wondering about the laces, given the list of must-haves? The laces are tight in the boot and can’t be caught in the stirrup. Most field boots have a zipper up the calf to put the boot on and take it off.)
Short riding boots (eg: jodhpur boots, paddock boots, work boots)
Short riding boots, although not the traditional footwear, are preferred by many riders for a few reasons: easier to pull on and off, easier to size, potentially more comfortable in warmer temperatures, and usually quite a bit cheaper.
These are the most popular choice for riders who are just beginning and for children, although many transition into tall boots as they gain experience. While they are called ‘short’, these boots still go above the ankle, but no calf-sizing is required.
You may want some protection for your legs while riding; wearing gaiters or half chaps with these boots will help. It will also give the impression of wearing a tall boot.
Jodhpur boots:
Have a strap or elastic sides for easy pulling on/off
Often have wooden soles
Frequently made out of fine leather
Paddock boots:
Typically worn pleasure riding and working around the barn
Mostly made out of a more durable material that can be worn all-day
Usually have an extra layer of material called a ‘toe cap’
Might have a steel toe for added protection
Boots for English disciplines
For English disciplines like show jumping, dressage, hunter jumper, eventing, and saddle seat, you will need dress boots or field boots for competitions. Rules might be relaxed for children’s beginner classes, where paddock boots are often allowed.
Western Horseback Riding Boots
Western Riding Boots also known as Cowboy Boots, come in a variety of sizes, colours and styles.
Western boots are typically made of cowhide but can also be made of a wide variety of materials: alligator, crocodile, snakeskin, ostrich, bison, lizard and certain marine creatures like stingray and sturgeon. Western boots are recognizable around the world for their distinctive look and famed for their durability. Did you know, the original purpose of the extensive, decorative stitching was to reinforce the boot so it wouldn’t sag or fall over?
Just as there are many materials to choose from, there are many styles: classic, shortie, work, roper, buckaroo, riding and stockman. All have the recommended heel height, no laces or tongues, and have a pointed toe to make it easier to guide your foot into the stirrup.
amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "thehorsedispatch-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_design = "enhanced_links"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B00U9ZFCPY"; amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "2994ff83a92ea5ba07a3bc4405d90f3b"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "thehorsedispatch-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_design = "enhanced_links"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B079RSV745"; amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "e229ded61f00f15c939d4379f3f3ac8a";
Distinctions between the boots are
How tall they are: the shortie, roper and work boot are all 6-10” tall; the classic and the stockman are ~12” tall; the riding boot is 14” tall, as is buckaroo which is definitely designed for show
The depth of the decorative throat or ‘scallop’ (the pointy dip against your shin at the front of the boot) with the buckaroo, riding, and stockman having the deepest scallops
The extent of the stitching simply because the riding western boot is so tall and plain, it looks similar to English boots, such that Western riding boots appear in both English and Western disciplines. Instead of loops to pull the boots on, they typically have buckles at the ankle and the top of the shin
Weight, with the shorter boots claiming the crown for being lighter, and therefore also cooler in warm temperatures
Cost, where the shorter boots save you a bit of coin over the tall boots
If you’re looking for your boots to do double duty outside the barn and into a social scene, avoid the tallest boots (and make sure your boots are clean) and you can step out with confidence and style.
Many of the boots listed here and ones that you will find are double purpose. They perform the function of helping you ride the horse, but also help you with a trendy look. It is important to remember that being safe when you are a beginner is paramount, and more important than looking good. That doesn’t mean that you can do both, however, and some people really go all out when purchasing their riding boots. Have fun. but stay safe.
Boots for Western disciplines
The competition requirements for boots in Western disciplines are much more relaxed than English disciplines. Pretty much any cowboy boot will do, whether you’re cutting, barrel racing, roping, or trail riding.
In a nutshell, here are the steps to find the right boot:
Check if there are dress code requirements for the type of riding you’ll be doing
Determine if you’ll be riding more than working in the barn, or the other way around, or an equal amount of both
Determine what weather you’ll be wearing the boots in
Figure out how much you want to spend
Try on some boots
There are few activities that can produce the variety of emotions that horseback riding can: excitement, exhilaration, nervous anticipation, adrenalin rush, teamwork, accomplishment, satisfaction and serenity (to name a few). And every good emotion you’re seeking can be compromised if you have inadequate boots for your purpose. Use this guide to get your shortlist of boots, try some on, listen to the experts, and then ride comfortably and safely off into the sunset.
