#treehouse outfit definitely

after the mario kart direct, im sure most of us are in agreement that nintendo has done nothing to prove to us that this game is worth 80$, right? (I live in canada, so this game is going to be even MORE expensive here.) And I doubt they are gonna show more stuff in the future that will convince people otherwise. If they were gonna do that, they would have shown it off here I presume.
It definitely doesn't look like an $80 game, no. Like despite being a "Nintendo Direct" it was basically just an extended version of the same trailer we saw at the Switch 2 reveal. The only real difference is:
They confirm that yes, by going through roadside drive throughs, you can costume change. This was obvious enough from the footage provided at the Switch 2 reveal. But it does seem strictly limited to "Yoshi's" diners. Also, once you unlock an outfit, you keep it, which was something that wasn't clear in the Treehouse streams.
They focus on smaller nobody characters getting their debut, like being able to race as a Goomba, and, uh, "Cow." Nintendo's boundless creativity at work there. But we knew this from the Treehouse streams.
There is stuff out there in the open world. They mention 300 "missions." We see a grand total of one. They also mention collectible medallions can be discovered. We also see a grand total of one. Picking up the Peach medallion seems to unlock a costume for Wario.
And that's... not anything worth $80. Like a lot of this is stuff open world racing games were doing with Burnout Paradise back in 2008. There were kids born the same year Burnout Paradise released that are legally allowed to drive real cars now.
You know how much I paid for Burnout Paradise Remastered on the Switch? I think it was like $10. $20 tops.
Mario Kart 8 released 11 years ago, and I know this open world looks big and all, but at least spoil a couple more surprises. The game releases in two months. You can show off two or three or even four different mission types.
THAT, that to me feels like ego. That's "It's Mario Kart, it outsold every game on earth besides Minecraft, GTA5, Wii Sports, and Ark. You people will buy it no matter what."
Also? The more I think about it, the more 24 racers at the same time sounds like a nightmare. Mario Kart Wii was bad enough when it was 12. And now you automatically hold all your items out by default. You know what I hated the most about Mario Kart Wii? How often you'd get blasted by something that would knock items out of your hands. It's going to be the same thing. You aren't going to be able to hold on to anything for more than ten seconds.
No thanks. As it continues to sink in, the more I begin waiting for Nintendo's apology tour on this thing. What are the Ambassador games going to be? A free copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars?

Hi! May I please request Fionna dating headcanons with a fem or gender neutral reader?
Dating Fionna Headcanons - Fionna (Fionna and Cake) x GN!Reader
——————
BACKSTORY (IN ORDER)
(This is like… in a universe where everything isn’t shitty? Like… how her universe was supposed to be.)
Fionna probably met you while on an adventure.
Her and Cake were fighting this big monster and we’re almost about to be defeated when you dropped in and saved them.
She thanked you and offered you to tag along with her and Cake. You happily accepted her offer.
You guys get along really well and throughout the months of adventuring around Ooo, you, Cake, and Fionna were like best friends.
One day, you guys were camping out in the woods since it was late and you guys didn’t want to travel back to the Treehouse.
You were sitting out by the fire that Fionna put together.
You could hear Fionna and Cake talking in the distance but you couldn’t decipher what they were saying.
Then, Fionna came over and sat next to you, warming her hands up on the fire.
She seemed… different. Almost anxious.
You turned towards her and raised an eyebrow.
She turned towards you as well and her face seemed… pink? Almost as if she was blushing… ^_−☆
You asked her what’s wrong and she immediately blurted out how she thinks she has a crush on you.
You pause, a surprise look on your face. You explained that you liked her as well and she seemed surprised.
You two talked about where you were in your relationship and what you guys were going to do now.
You two decided that you guys should just live with these feelings for a bit and see how things go.
About a month later, she asked you out!
She got you a bunch of flowers and made them into a bouquet with some twine. She gave them to you when she asked you.
WHAT ITS LIKE DATING HER (NO SPECIFIC ORDER UNLESS SPECIFIED)
She’s definitely cuddly and very clingy. She’s constantly holding onto you whether it’s the side of your sleeve or your hand.
She was very nervous to say “I love you” because she didn’t want to say it too early and mess anything up.
She was just very nervous in general but as you started to flirt more she loosened up.
She never had a whole lot of energy to clean so anytime you would come over, clean up and talk to her about how living junk isn’t super healthy. You didn’t mind in the end because you liked to help.
When it comes to fighting, you guys would just get into heated discussions but never like actual fights. It’s always over something silly and you guys always forgive each other after.
She is definitely a hoodie / clothing stealer. For example: “where’s my shirt?” you say. “It’s probably at my house somewhere.” Fionna responded, giggling.
You guys defiantly have a favorite thing. For example, you guys have a favorite song that you always listen to when together or a favorite snack you guys always get when hanging out. She’ll always be like, “(insert name here), ITS OUR THING!”
It’s definitely the little things when it comes to the relationship. Like, maybe you’ll set out her outfit or do her laundry. Maybe she’ll make you some breakfast, even if it doesn’t taste the best.
Double dates with Gary and Marshall are the funniest things EVER. Chaotic energy the whole time. (That’s a good fanfic idea… lmk if y’all wanna see that.)
She loves to make little doodles on paper and leave them on your fridge or at your desk. As well as little notes about how much she appreciates you and loves you.
Cake was definitely predicting your relationship. She’d always be like “maybe (insert name here) can help open that jar…” and yada yada.
When you stay the night at her house and the other way around, she always cuddles you and whispers little compliments in your ear. For example: “you’re so amazing…”, “I can’t believe your mine…”, and yada yada.
Dates are always something very simple other than going out with Marshall and Gary. For example, staying in watching movies, going out for drinks, etc. She isn’t too big on fancy stuff.
She’s very big on kisses. She likes kissing you basically everywhere but especially your neck.
STUBBORN. She is hella stubborn and will make a big deal out of everything single thing.
Note: I DID IT! Feel free to request more. 💙🌀

Dynamic Exploration!
That's right, 2 posts today! Cuz I forgot to post the other one yesterday! So, who else has the wheel chosen?
King and Yandere!
---
King and Yandere were actually all over each other when they first met. They're both energetic balls of life.
Since I personally HC King to be a bit in the younger side, he's able to keep up with Yandere's energy, and understand her a bit more than the older egos. It helped her feel a bit more seen.
King makes her the Princess of the Squirrels, and when she goes into the backyard (Basically his land), there's always a squirrel ready to guide her through the forest to his treehouse.
Yan loves making new outfits for King so that he isn't stuck in that same red costume. With her help, he expands his (squirrel fur free) wardrobe into all the colors of the rainbow. And in return, she gets part of his peanut butter stash.
Another thing Yan like to do with King is makeup. She uses him as a test subject for nail polish and face looks and the like.
On another note... we all know Yan is a bit, uh... murderous. And she has definitely more than once chased King through the woods with a sword as a way to get that violent energy out. No, she's never actually hurt him. He actually thinks it's rather enriching. He gets to scurry around and climb up the trees and yay, fun!
Overall, they're like siblings. Two very insane siblings who do each others make up and play murder chase.

Yo moot
What are Gianna's main opinions of other KND operatives? (like, Moonbase, Sector W, etc.)
(Oooo~ This is gonna be a good one~ All right time for Gianna to answer that for ya my fellow moot~)
(For the sake of her lore, she will only speak about Sector V and Moonbase since she usually interacted with people from there the most.)
(Eh why not, I'll do a bonus and have her speak her mind on some of her new friends too! Keep in mind that her reactions are based mostly based off the interactions that happened behind the scenes~ ^^)
Sector V
Numbuh 1 - "Nigel is definitely...something else, but being the leader, I obviously have respect for the guy. As much as a hard worker he tends to be for the most part, I do wish he takes some time off to spend with us. There has been times where I did force him to take a day off when there's no missions available. He's just too...stubborn and the other operatives did warn me about such. Yet, I refuse to give up and continue trying to help the poor kid. I wanna make sure all my friends are good and at least have some fun included in their lives."
Numbuh 2 - "Hoagie is a very good friend to hang out with! ...So long as he doesn't tell too many dad jokes around me. That kid would make me facepalm a lot everytime he does a dad joke. Yet, I would normally allow him to do such since I know that's something he loves. There were times though that he surprisingly got me to laugh at a couple since to me, they were good. I normally get curious to what stuff he would invent so whenever there's free time, I go to his room and just watch to see what he created. There were even times where I would maybe give him some of my help and upgrade it with my computer skills when technology was involved. It isn't an easy task to work on stuff outside my usual talents, but it does help me learn and work on critical thinking a bit!"
Numbuh 3 - "Kuki is definitely fun to be around! That girl sure has some interesting ways to make me smile if I'm ever feeling blue; From doing tea parties with her plushies, to maybe doing a sleepover now and then. What makes me happy the most is the fact that she can help me be a model whenever I wanna see how any new outfit I make look like on someone. There were some...failures on some outfits that didn't please Numbuh 3, but at least she's honest to me for the most part so I know what to work on in near future. That girl is definitely my sunshine when no one else is available."
Numbuh 4 - "Man I sometimes question that little dude...but, Wally is definitely a fighter. He tends to be my mentor when it comes to practicing hand to hand combat. While I do laugh at his...stupidity, I still think he's a good friend. We did have times in private where it was a heart to heart talk. He understood me when I told him about losing my baby brother a couple years ago, since he has one of his own. Despite not being there with me physically, he will always be there spiritually...that's what he told me as a sign of comfort and reassurance. I'll admit, it has been helping me through the tough times. Despite having that mask of acting tough, he sure knows how to use the right words."
Numbuh 5 - "To me, Abby is like one of my sister figures on the team. Matter of fact, she was the one to help me slowly get comfortable around the group when I first entered the treehouse. It took a lot, but she was definitely patient with me and still is. We would usually hang out in her room during her free time and just lounge back, reading some magazines, or even listening to stories we wanna share and tell! She is also another person to turn to if I ever wanna try new outfits I made to see how it looks. She's also honest with me which is good! Out of all the members, she's normally the one I have my heart to heart conversations the most, so she knows my full backstory. I tend to follow her on missions for the most part since I know it's usually her stealing candy and such for our food supplies. It's a lot of heavy lifting but at least we bring back the motherload."
Moonbase
Numbuh 362 - "Ah yes, the supreme leader~ Giving her my highest respects, she is also considered like a close friend to me...as a matter of fact, she was the one to have pick me up to be apart of KND! It was during recess when at the time, I was considered the best hider of all hide and seek. Some would call me "Shadow Wolf" and would never find me before the recess bell ended. After finding that out, Rachel asked me the big question during one of our sleepovers and I happily accepted! So since the start, she knows everything about me. When I had my downfall, she actually decided to create a special treatment program for me on the spot to try and keep me in the organization. So far we can both agree that this is working well, and if it completes as a pass, then she will decide to make it as an official program incase there are others out there that need it. Aside from that though, Rachel is a very good friend and a very understanding leader."
Numbuh 86 - "Well, Fanny is....something else when we are on duty. I tend to leave her be for the most part and try to not get involved with her missions for the most part. Though when we are off duty, I do enjoy the sleepovers she hosts. We would jam to music, sing, and basically gossip now and then about relationships....don't tell her I said that though-"
Numbuh 60 - "Oh boy...I won't lie, I tend to find him a little...intimidating as a drill sergeant. I sometimes wonder if he ever smiles under that seriousness. Though if I'm ever around my friends, then I would feel a bit more better. I don't have anything against Patton, I see him as a friend too, just, I feel intimidated around him by myself is all ^^;"
Bonus Section!
(This section will involve my mutuals ocs! Be sure to go follow these guys!)
We will start with @kandykatz~
Numbuh 1/6 - "Carol is definitely fun to be around! I sometimes feel inspired to be as courageous as her. I like to call her my little ferret since I can see her act like one and I do find it adorable! She can even be a little...clingy, though I also find that cute to be honest! Aside from her tending to act adorable, I enjoy hanging out with her and see what fun little stuff she schemes on Sector V."
Numbuh 1/8 - "I rarely ever felt this feeling ever since Joseph passed away...but I see Aiden as a brother figure. Normally all of my close friends are mostly sister figures...Aiden is a first to be like a brother figure to me. From the time I spent with him, we actually share some similar likings as far as hobbies go and it makes me feel happy. He is also a better mentor for combat training than Numbuh 4, I'mma be honest. When he came over to my house for the week to help me pet sit my wolf and cat, it took a bit for Everest, my wolf, to gain trust on him. It was actually cute when one day I found the two together spending some time.~ I can see why the cadets look up to Aiden, especially Lee. I'm glad to have met Aiden as another close friend and I hope to continue our adventures together!"
Moving onto the next lovely mutual~
@numbuhinfinitys
Numbuh Infinity-S - "When I first met Renya, I did feel a little...intimidated, but I wanted to open up to her and reassure that she can trust me. Once our friendship bond started to grow, I started to feel more comfortable around her with our friends! I do like to mess with her now and then for the funni, but I have my limits and stop whenever it becomes a little too far...One example being she almost caught the treehouse on fire...We haven't had any adventures together yet but we will very soon and I look forward for them!"
Up next~
@bluepastels29
(For context on Gianna's thoughts, we recently announced on Instagram that within Blue's Skyleeverse, Numbuh 7 and Numbuh 72 are now together, and Numbuh 7 is in a poly ship with Gianna and Hoagie!)
Numbuh 7 - "My biggest ray of sunshine, my gem, my everything~ Skye started out at first as a close friend...she was another one to have help me warm up in Sector V with Numbuh 5. I started to fall in love with her when an incident happened at my first school dance. There was a boy I fell in love with at that time and he asked me out to the dance...yet Skye felt like something was off about him. Sadly...I wish I listened to her. On the night of the dance, he eventually showed his true colors and admitted that he was bribed to date me and even gave me some sort of love potion to win the bet. After finding that out, I was about to run home from heartbreak, but Skye stopped me and offered the dance to make up from that mess. When we danced under the moonlight, that's when I started to fall in love. I was scared to admit my feelings for her though since I knew she was with Numbuh 2. Though, once I did confess, she actually accepted my feelings and admitted she fell in love with me too. She even told Numbuh 2 about it and said it was ok for me to date her too! So now here we are, I'm sharing Skye with Numbuh 2!"
Numbuh 167 - "Another rare occasion where I get that feeling that he's like a little brother. Jet was just as shy as I was when I got to meet Skye's brother. He surprisingly warmed up to me not too long after though luckily! I really enjoy being around him so far...especially from the 'Pancake Challenge'~ Hehehe! Though I do hope to get to know him more as we go!"
Last but not least for the time being~
@artsygirl0315
Numbuh 412 - "Despite just now getting to know Tyler, I already like them! The fact that both they and Numbuh 510 love dressing to impress, I got a little too excited and did a fun fashion show with the two of them! I hope we get to have some more exciting adventures soon!"
Numbuh 510 - "Like Numbuh 412, despite barely getting to know her, I already started to like her! Same reason, the fact that they enjoy dressing up to impress~ I hope for more fun adventures!"
Numbuh 315 - "Mella is such a nice girl! She was in fact the one to have greeted me when I arrived here! And I will say, she is definitely good with getting her missions done~ Especially from hauling in those heavy candy bags- Yet, I really like her!"
(And that's everyone so far based off her interactions! Again her words about these kids are based off her current adventures and stuff that happened behind the scenes, whether it was out of context or just for laughs~. If there was some stuff that was off about Gianna's words, I highly apologize for such.)
(Who knows, if someone asks this question in the future again, it'll be updated with more people she will have interactions with in near future!)

here’s my main Skykid OC I’ve been developing!

They go by many names, though usually called Airii!
they’re a traveling witch and musician, as well as a shapeshifter because I can’t decide on a definite outfit for them lol
When they’re not found wandering the realms, spreading magic through song to all creatures, they’re helping prepare spells and potions at the ark or gathering ingredients for said spells and potions!
I’ll make art for them in the future, but for now, here’s basic information:
names: Airii (aliases include names of flowers, like Orchid or Lily)
gender: agender
pronouns: any, they/it or star/stars preferred
Occupation: witch, musician, traveller
main areas to be found: Ark (wasteland), Isle of Dawn, Treehouse (forest), Windpaths
special abilities: skilled magic, Shapeshifting
main items used: fireworks staff, any instrument (usually Duets Cello)

Sims 4 Fontenot Legacy - The End of Toddlerhood: Juno's Birthday
At long last, the day has finally come. Juno will join the big kid club and the family will no longer have to worry about tumbling toddlers anymore!
Scarlett is the first to get a final toddler hug from Juno, while everyone else gets ready for the day. It's a lovely, quiet moment between grandmother and grandson, one that Scarlett will surely remember forever even if Juno does not.
Sabrina and Marquise decided against a big party and instead invited over lifelong friends to celebrate Juno's special day. It's a very simple party since it's during the work week, but Juno's got the most important things: a birthday cake and a special surprise from his parents.
Sabrina: Ah, so you must be the mysterious Irina! Alton has been keeping you under wraps!
Irina: Yeah, well, we started dating pretty quickly after he broke up with his ex, so we wanted to take things slow. It's so nice to finally meet you, though! Thanks for the invite.
Sabrina: Well I hope the two of you can be around a lot more! You'll definitely have invites to any game or karaoke nights!
Irina: That sounds great!
Sabrina: Who would've thought we'd end up with two of the cutest kids on the planet?
Nyla: You mean the two cutest kids on the planet.
Sabrina chuckles.
Sabrina: I didn't want Robin or Sigrid overhearing me make a claim like that.
Nyla: The twins are a close third place.
Sabrina: It's just so awesome that Juno has all this love around him. When birthdays came around for me, it was usually just me, my mom, and my cousins and uncle.
Beau: Well, the little guy deserves it. He's a good kid. How are you feeling?
Sabrina: About what?
Beau: You know, about this? A phase of life is ending for both of you. Juno's gonna be a kid that's able to go to school, feed himself, learn new skills, and he's not going to need you in the same ways anymore.
Sabrina: Hmm... well, I think I've processed it all now. I'm excited about this new chapter and I know I have the memories to look back on, which is nice.
Beau: That's good. I'm glad.
Beau: Well, you'll have a new portrait to put up in the restaurant!
Sabrina: Oh yeah! Tomorrow I'll take him there and continue the tradition! I've already picked out the perfect outfit for him of everything!
Beau: You'll have to tell me all about it.
Marquise: Aww, kiddo...
Sabrina walks over to them.
Sabrina: What's this? Giving out some final toddler hugs Junebug?
Juno: Yeah yeah!
Juno raises his arms towards Sabrina.
Sabrina: Oh, is it Bibi's turn?
Sabrina kneels down in front of him. Juno comes in close immediately, ready to give his Bibi a final hug before it's time to age up.
Sabrina: My sweet Junebug. Thanks for being so awesome. Time to blow out your candles. You ready, buddy?
So Sabrina grabs Juno, brings him over to the birthday cake, and helps him blow out his candles. Happy birthday to the baby of the family, Juno aka "Junebug"!
Before and after! The toddler days of Gen 5 are officially behind us! Juno joins the big leagues along with his cousins.
Audrey: Welcome to the club, Juno!
Juno: Thanks, guys!
Alma: Now you're finally big enough to hang out with us in the treehouse. We don't usually allow boys in, but we can make an exception in your case.
Juno: Huh. Thanks, I guess.
Alma: Don't mention it!
With the twins and Juno being so close in age but the twins being a little older, it's easy for Juno to feel overlooked, so his parents have their own special surprise for him.
Juno: No way! Is this my bike?
Marquise: All yours!
Juno: This is so awesome! Thanks, Dad!
Juno envelops his dad in a big hug.
Marquise: You're welcome, but you should be thanking your Bibi too.
Sabrina: Did I hear my name?
Juno: Bibi! Thank you so much! This is awesome.
Sabrina: You're very welcome. The most awesome bike for the most awesome little fella!
Sabrina makes a thing out of giving Juno the biggest kiss on his cheek, which makes Juno cringe.
Juno: Aww, come on Bibi!
Sabrina can't help but giggle.
Sabrina: Already too big for a kiss from your Bibi? You just aged up!
Juno sighs dramatically.
Juno: Can I ride my bike? Please?
Sabrina: Of course. Dad can help you with your first lesson.
Juno: Alright!
Marquise: Alright, now riding is all about balance! Hold on tight to the handlebars and lean into the turns!
Juno: Got it!
So Juno spends the afternoon of his birthday getting his first bike riding lesson from his dad. It's a simple interaction, but one neither sim will ever forget. With this milestone, Juno's parents know the joy of childhood will only continue.

I see em up ahead. Let's Rock and Roll!
Another post so once again I'm doing an off-topic one. Admittedly making this post was partially my motivation to finally finish that previous post. The reason being of course tomorrow we'll finally get official details of the Switch 2. As I said before, whilst I am interested in the console itself, what interests me far more is seeing what games are coming up. The Direct tomorrow wasn't the only news however since we got a Direct last week for the original Switch as likely the final Switch 1 exclusive Direct. I'll admit it wasn't one of my favourites, but as is often the case with Directs I feel for some people if there's something specific there it'll be 'one of the best ever' and I know plenty of people who love Tomodachi Life. I was pleased to see it myself, it's just not a franchise I get particularly excited for. Perhaps the bigger thing to me is despite the Direct we still haven't really had anything new added to the specific release calender, what with a lot of games in the Direct still being a vague '2025' and '2026'. There was that new Nintendo Today app on mobile which I feel is such a Nintendo move, I think it's pretty cool but making it so you can't simply look at an archive of articles for things you missed and they disappear if you haven't looked at them that day is such a crappy choice I can't really defend. I love the idea of getting new artwork such as small comics as well as profiles of characters there so it's a real shame they have to make it so needlessly limited. Anyway, I guess the main thing for this blog is so far there wasn't really anything announced at the previous Direct that will change anything on my list, no games that made a character playable for the first time, brought in some specific outfit from Smash or simply made one of the games on my list more accessible. Still, of course I consider it all a starter before the main meal tomorrow, and at an hour long with two Treehouse Live sessions following it, I'm excited to see what's coming.
My life situation has changed since I posted last, I mentioned getting a job and so far it's been going very well. I do realise however I've gotten lucky with my placement and I could be moved to a position I'll find far worse, still currently things are good. Also, despite now having less time I've actually managed to achieve a lot when it comes to my list. So far I've got almost as long a list of games I've beaten this year as last year, and since we're only in April I'd consider that a big achievement. I guess it's best to mention that of those games a lot of them were shorter ones, I still haven't played through Tales of Symphonia yet for example, however I did got back and play through some games I'd skipped over before such as Princess Peach Showtime and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I won't review every game I've gone through, but Peach Showtime was I thought a lot of fun with my only issue with the game being how if you miss a Sparkle Gem in a stage you most likely will have to replay the whole stage from scratch, which wouldn't be as bad if it weren't for the stages often having unskippable text you have to wait for. It honestly was the only thing that I really found awful in the game with the rest of it being a lot of fun. Kirby and the Forgotten Land on the other hand was a great game, I'd heard good things and it was definitely one of the best Kirby games out there. I didn't initially have it on my list, however I came to realise it's actually the only game in the franchise where Kirby can wear a mask of Meta Knight (the only other he wears a small version on the side of his head instead of the full mask like in Smash) which made me put it on my list for Kirby's hats. Besides those games, I also made some progress on my list of games for Mii costumes. I skipped over a couple of really long ones for now such as Tales of Symphonia, Persona 3/4 and Monster Hunter, but I played through a fair few difficult games such as Cuphead and Undertale's genocide run. When I reached Fallout Tactics I realised that was going to be a tough game to play which was when I decided to go back to games I skipped.
Following this however I decided to do something different with my list, what I'm sort of thinking of as "The Great Replay". In this case I am returning to every game I've beaten so far on my list to have a bit of a play around with them. In cases where the game's somewhat open I'm revisiting various areas in the game just to wander around and possibly fight an enemy or two, in other games such as F-Zero I've been playing through a Grand Prix and in ones like Star Fox I've played through a couple of levels again. However, one aspect of this I've decided to do is where possible, if a game is now on Switch Online and I originally played it on Wii U or something I've been trying to complete them on Switch. I don't plan to do this for everything as games like Fire Emblem would take ages, but I have beaten a couple of games such as Earthbound, Ocarina of Time (which I'd already played halfway through so decided to finish) and Metroid Zero Mission. It's been a lot of fun and allowed me to get screenshots I was lacking for games I already beat. I must admit, playing some again there are things I realised were way bigger of a deal for me than I remembered when writing my posts for them, the Water Temple for example in OOT I always tended to say 'wasn't that bad' but this time I honestly found it really frustrating, I can't remember why right now but I remembered looking back at my post and wondering how I forgot how irritating various factors were in it, and it wasn't even just having to swap on the Metal Boots. There are some games I'm also holding off of since I'm hoping they might get an actual rerelease sometime soon.
Given this is the first new console launch since I started this blog, I might make a follow up post to this tomorrow when we've seen what's shown. My biggest hope personally is there'll be stuff I can add to my list shown, games that make characters playable for the first time (still holding out for Dark Samus to somehow be playable in Prime 4, maybe in a multiplayer or side-mode) as well as rereleases of games that are almost impossible to track down or I just simply want to see remade such as Kid Icarus Uprising. I want to finalize my wishlist here for tomorrow's Direct I suppose, some of this is based off of rumours and other stuff is based off of simply what I want to see. Firstly I want to see the next main series Mario game and the next Zelda. I think both are possible, whilst Zelda I doubt will be anywhere close to ready, I could see them do a teaser like they did for Breath of the Wild originally. I'm not someone who's against Breath of the Wild and the games related to it, but I do want to see something all new from Zelda now, so far every new main Zelda game has been a pretty drastic change from the previous one, Ocarina to Wind Waker, WW to Twilight Princess, TP to Skyward Sword and then SS to Breath of the Wild. I'm very interested to see what visual style we see this time. Next up are remasters/remakes, I've said on here before but I would love to see Kid Icarus Uprising in a form that finally makes the controls not so convoluted. Fire Emblem Echoes Holy War, I just want to see this finally happen, maybe all the rumours about it were completely wrong and it's not happening, but sort of like in the lead up to a Pokemon remake there are just so many things pointing to it happening, from how much the cast have been shown in Fire Emblem Heroes to Sigurd being somewhat prominent in Fire Emblem Engage, I think it's time to see it. I've said before my dream is to see it with a remake of Thracia also part of the game or possibly DLC later down the line. There's games I'd be happy to see just get ported such as Prime 2 and 3 as well as Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD. My wildcard hope for ports would be Punch-out finally being brought over, it's one of my favourite games and the idea of being able to just throw it on whenever is really appealing to me, especially if they finally made Doc Louis's fight available worldwide. Finally one I don't expect here is some sort of Pokemon Classics pack, I think I went over this before so I won't go on too much about it, but yeah I really want to see them make the older games available on Switch, however I can't see it here since it'd likely be at a Pokemon Presents if it's possible at all. I could see it maybe next year as I believe it's a big anniversary date for the series.
I always find it hard to think of stuff completely new that I hope for, I've said in the past about something they could be really creative with like an Ice Climber game which expands a ton on the really limited concept of climbing a mountain to add all sorts of off the wall events and locations as well as bizarre characters. Star Fox I want to see something done by someone like Next Level Games, I feel like they'd be a good fit to do something new and interesting with the series, it's one I feel has so much untouched potential as a big fan of the old Star Wars Rogue Squadron games, I'd love to see a game that has all sorts of ships you can fly and all sorts of planets to visit. F-Zero I feel it's finally the right time to see something new from especially after how well received I believe 99 was. Personally I'd love to see something that leans into a lot of the more comic book style I remember with F-Zero X, where the character portraits looked right out of a comic book. Some smaller games I'd like to see are perhaps since Mages did in my opinion a great job with Famicom Detective Club, I'd love to see them tackle some of the other obscure 'Adventure titles' from the Famicom, something like Shin Onigashima or Yūyūki which are on my list but I have no idea how I'm going to approach when I get to them would be of a great help to me. I suppose I should also mention some things I personally don't want to see, one which is heavily rumoured is Breath of the Wild getting an enhanced port/remake. I feel it really is time to move on from Breath of the Wild now and the idea of playing through the game again really doesn't appeal to me, especially with Tears of the Kingdom taking place in the same world, it just is too much at this point to me. I'm not particularly fond of the idea of an Ocarina of Time remake either that I've seen rumoured. We do have the only seemingly confirmed game so far (maybe it's a tech demo but I really doubt it) Mario Kart (9?). Honestly the only hope I have for this game is that there'll be skins, mostly because, yes I admit I'm not too happy about Donkey Kong's redesign. As a huge fan of the Rareware games, it really does feel like a distancing from everything I loved about the Donkey Kong Country games, and admittedly it makes me concerned for an actual new Donkey Kong game. I do find it slightly bizarre as well they've chosen to do this despite opening the new Donkey Kong theme park using his original design. I'd be absolutely fine with it if it's a skin for DK and he also has his Rareware look, but yeah we'll have to wait and see. I admit it also makes me a bit concerned about the next Smash Bros, I've always loved how the series feels like you're seeing the original games translated into Smash, so if DK for example suddenly has this new design as the only option, it'll make him stick out when put into stages based on the Rareware games for example. With that said again I'd be fine with it being just an optional look for him, even if it was the main one having the option makes things fine for me. I won't go too much into the next Smash Bros beyond that, at this point I feel it best to just wait and see what happens.
Finally, this is going off of some rumour that didn't build much traction and sounded way too good to be true, so I definitely don't expect it, but I would love to see a game like Project X Zone focused on Nintendo characters. I think so many have dreamed since Smash of a story based Nintendo crossover game that it's probably one of the biggest 'dream come true' type things they could do. Of course how it plays and other stuff will be very important to it, but just the idea of it is such a dream to me it might honestly make me reconsider my whole list as to whether to incorporate it into the whole 'Smash series' I'm covering since it would be doing essentially the same idea. If it was worked on by some Monolith staff similar to the original Project X Zone games I'd also be really interested to see things like Xenoblade crossing over with Zelda for example. Anyway, that's it for now, I'm planning to put the stream on my PC early tomorrow, close everything else (Discord, other browsers) and hopefully get home from work (where I'll be when it's live) and be able to watch the Direct without seeing any spoilers for it. Might make a post tomorrow or over the next couple of days, but it's very exciting times ahead for Nintendo stuff. I'll also go more into what I have actually planned for this blog in the next post as I realise I've barely mentioned it. Anyway, see you all on the other side of the Direct.

Ilariy: Akhil, do something stupid so I can laugh.
Akhil, playfully rolling his eyes: Just think about that time we almost fell out of the treehouse because we were roughousing.
Ilariy, chuckling: It was funny, even if we did get a spike of adrenaline in the moment.
Methinks Ilariy has such a nice smile so Valentine will definitely be getting good pictures. And he'll listen to whatever fashion advice Mārīte gives him.
very much so enjoying the kids just spending time together outside of the ranch and just fucking around,,, sigh. they grow up so fast <3
i more so meant that mārīte uses ilariy to model clothing she made, and valentine takes photos of him for both of their needs (mārīte needs proof that yeah, they fit a human being, and valentine needs a fun and interesting subject to photograph)
valentine may or may not make ilariy do dumb shit in the outfit/costume because any and all range of emotion is what they need. from being annoyed to bafflement to unbridled joy. they love capturing the way body language also changes alongside it so. yeah

“you’d look adorable in a periwinkle sweater. a knitted one. and then a little embroidered skull on your chest.” she teased with a happy smile, just glad that a lot of tension seemed to be gone. she smiled and shrugged. “yes, your name does suit you… but i mean, most people don’t call their husbands by their first name all the time, so i shall pitch new ideas from time to time. periwinkle now comes to mind.” she smirked.
she was glad that had agreed to that division in tasks and nodded happily. “great!” she said.
monroe could have cheered, she was that happy that he didn’t immediately shoot down her idea. “i’d love to get you your own toolbelt and teach you some woodworking skills.” she told him and chuckled. “you can also have the shed if you find the treehouse too whimsical but we can totally work on that together, allow ourselves some space of our own.” she said and smiled. “it’ll be great, i promise.” she said as the car came to a standstill and stood in front of a brand new, cookie-cutter home. a little front yard with a white picket fence and then a pretty big, white house next to a whole row of other white houses. “i guess this is it.” she told harley and unbuckled her seatbelt. “ready to go explore?” she asked.
harley was fully prepared to be annoyed by monroe's outfit description - right up until the last bit of it. "...you know... that actually sounds kinda lit." maybe the color palette wasn't his usual thing, but the contrast that came with adding a skull to the top of it definitely made the garment more his style. "anything's better than bubba." he mused, slightly annoyed at just how comfortable he was already managing to find himself getting around her. if he actually started to like monroe, he'd only be proving the man right, and that just simply wasn't acceptable.
"you make the plans and tell me what to do, and i'll put the labor in." he might not have much experience, but following directions seemed simple enough - especially if she knew what she was doing.
the sight of their new home, a white picket-fenced prison made his calmer demeanor shift, tension immediately filling his body once again. it didn't matter if monroe was cool or not, this whole thing sucked. he had no say in his future, forced to live a boring, cookie cutter life, instead of the exciting one he could now only dream of. "it's the same as every other house on this block, i doubt there's any hidden treasures in there." still, he unbuckled, reaching across monroe to push the door open for her. "real question is whether or not they stocked the fridge for us."

Sanderstober Art Prompts 2020
Amidst all the editing and business, I haven’t forgotten to at least begin a list of Inktober prompts for you all this month! I’ll be adding more as I go! And, of course, like always, even if we’ve passed by a certain date (like, for instance, if it’s October 9th, but you wanna share a prompt from October 1st), that’s, of COURSE, fine! And, also of course, you can always join and do prompts at any time, this is purely for fun! The list has now been completed!
Oct. 1st - Take your profile pic or a favorite profile pic in the past and create a spooky version! Double dog dare you to use it as your actual profile pic.
Oct. 2nd - Create a Suit or Dress inspired by a specific candy bar wrapper design!
Oct. 3rd - This year could almost BE a scary movie. I shudder to put this as a prompt… but what would a poster for that movie look like?
Oct. 4th - Because I think the world just needs more of this, I want you to try and create the most wholesome or cute image you can. Little animals? Yes please. Feel-good scenarios? YES PLEASE. This one’s vague, but I don’t care! Lol
Oct. 5th - Take a traditional scary tale (“The Headless Horseman”, “Frankenstein”, “Dracula” ) and portray a plot point or poke fun at a character or characters from the story in the form of a MEME!
Oct. 6th - Nightmare Before Christmas was a tale about if Halloween took over Christmas and made so many traditionally Christmas-y. What if the reverse happened? What would Christmas make Halloween to look like?
Oct. 7th - Avatar: The Last Airbender experienced a renaissance this year! So, in tribute to that, take any character from any other piece of media (animation, TV, movie, etc.) and depict THEM if they also were an uber fan of ATLA this year!
Oct. 8th - What do you think the Sanders Sides characters’ Halloween costumes would be this year??
Oct. 9th - What if the personification of the Moon came to Earth to experience the daytime? What if the personification of the Sun came to Earth to experience the nighttime?
Oct. 10th - Take your Zodiac sign and make it FASHION!
Oct. 11th - Please depict any Halloween monster, traditional or from a movie, and how they’re currently dealing or adapting to life in 2020
Oct. 12th - Take any character from a fave piece of media of yours and create a Tarot card for that character!
Oct. 13th - Many of us have stories we’ve created in connection with certain songs we’ve heard. For this day, try depicting even just a scene of that story and what song inspired it! If you can’t recall any story connected with a song you’ve heard, maybe just make one up in connection with a fave song of yours!
Oct. 14th - Take a famous painting from any time in history… and October-fy it (Halloween-y or Fall-y would be awesome)
Oct. 15th - Take an ordinary, every day location or refuge (a playground, a library, a treehouse, etc.) and depict the landscape of an entire world based on that location
Oct. 16th - Two games that have helped distract us and gave us much-needed entertainment this year are Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Among Us! What if the characters from Animal Crossing… were in Among Us?
Oct. 17th - Contrarily… what if the characters from Among Us… were in Animal Crossing?
Oct. 18th - A perennial favorite - Depict your OTP and how they’re enjoying Halloween this year. Coordinating costumes? Maybe 2020 is affecting how they celebrate?
Oct. 19th - Take one of your favorite characters from any piece of media. What piece of social media would they thrive on? You could depict either what their media might look like if you’re seeing it on your phone or you can depict them filming or writing for that piece of social media!
Oct. 20th - draw your home state, province, county, or country... if it were a PERSON
Oct. 21st - I definitely have been seeing an upsurge in Uno card usage this year, especially the Reverse card. Take one or several characters, maybe all from the same series, or different characters from different series, and depict them on Uno cards that best reflect their personalities! Make a super cool Uno deck or just one cool Uno card!
Oct. 22nd - Take one (or more) of the Seven Deadly Sins [Greed, Wrath, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust, Pride, Envy] and personify them!
Oct. 23rd - There’s been a lot of movies that have taken fairy tales and modernized them for present day. What if we took a fairy tale… and put it in the distant future??
Oct. 24th - Take a non-human character from any piece of media, and depict how they’d look as a human!!
Oct. 25th - POETRY PROMPT - I wanted to include something on this list that focused a bit more on writing than art, but you are MORE than welcome to create artwork to accompany this. I think we all have one or two specific moments from a piece of media (tv show, movie, video game, book, etc.) that has affected us in such a poignant way that it lives in our minds rent free. Create a poem describing the events of this moment, trying to capture the very magic that impacted you so much.
Oct. 26th - What would a Disney character’s outfit be if they were a member of the Avengers?
Oct. 27th - What would a specific Avenger’s look be, if they were in a Disney movie??
Oct. 28th - There are traditional fears, the ones that comprise many a horror movie… and then there are more niche/unconventional fears, specific to you as a person. They can be potentially silly, or irrational, or conceptual… what would a movie poster look like with that fear being the main featured threat??
Oct. 29th - WRITING/POETRY PROMPT - Wanted to throw at least one more of these in here! Through writing (and, of course, artwork, if you’d prefer!), detail a beloved memory you have connected with either Autumn or Halloween.
Oct. 30th - There has almost been a Pokemon made to pay tribute to almost every animal or inanimate object (sword, lawnmower, sandcastle, key ring, magnets, etc.). Nevertheless, create a Pokemon from SOME object or animal that hasn’t been made and give it a name! Bonus points if you can then create an evolved form of it!
Oct. 31st - It is HALLOWEEN, baby!! Take any character(s), from media or your own OCs, and depict them celebrating Halloween!! It can be them celebrating in quarantine, or out and about since it’s fantastical, just aim for it to be wholesome and Halloween-y. We could always use a bit more of that on the 31st of October!!
I hope you all enjoy this list! Can’t wait to see what you all make! It’s always so much fun to see your creations. If you’d like me to see them, you can use this weird hashtag name #Sanderstober.

brinlybank besties, with a side of brinivybank
emma isn't as confident in her college major as she lets on. she really has no fucking clue what she'd be happiest doing. max, post-rejection letter, tries to ground her and they just take time together to look at careers and paths they could take
after realizing they encountered one another at the treehouse, they catch right on. afterwards, max features a lot on emma's social media - probably her most frequent guest after dylan or abi - and their friendship actually boosts emma's followers. they're a hit.
emma and max with dylan is a dangerous combination. they get the biggest hits with the three of them. the rest of the counselors are afraid of this trio because they know something big n dramatic will happen, that any of them will get roped into their goofiness
they milk the werewolf encounter story without actually giving the details to reveal werewolves are real. all em's followers know is that they were in a dire situation, face to face, and became friends that way.
emma teases max for his werewolf appearance all the time. whenever he pisses her off she'll just send the picture of him as a werewolf and he'll shut up.
emma also definitely showed off their outfit mixup. the praise max got for his hoodie look got him considering using his social medias more.
in the event max and laura actually made it to camp on time, i could definitely see max recruiting dylan to raise hell on emma's improv classes
max gets his nails done exclusively by emma, occasionally dylan joins in on the manicure session
max is the first person emma tells about her confusion on feelings. she really, really likes abi, but doesn't know what to do. she figures she gets on well enough with max, and he's been in a relationship for a while, so surely he'd have some advice, right?
unfortunately, the poor guy is so awkward and doesn't even know how he landed laura for so long. then it just becomes a convo of "what the hell? what do i do?? you were my only hope man" "listen i dont know! i dont know how i did it!"
initially, laura isn't crazy about emma. they clash quite a bit with their bold and brash personalities, but max insisted that emma is actually pretty nice and genuine when she's not trying to put on a show. laura and emma get a lot closer afterwards with their link to max, and once emma gets with abi they do double dates often
emma is also a mastermind behind the most extravagant dates max pulls off for laura. he doesn't know how to be extra, but emma lets him know all the things a girl would love to have
they both have the same favorite guilty-pleasure fast food restaurant. literally no one else likes it like they do. they usually go there for a "real talk" since no one else would ever come along.
emma is literally just the annoying little sister max used to wish he had, until he got an honorary one. but that's just part of the experience. emma can and will annoy max, just like a good sister would

Yeah, and I wouldn't mind necessarily but when spirits & candles are the only way to meaningfully interact with the world it starts to feel like a more complicated cookie clicker.
Just question for Sky Players,
Do u honestly think Sky is repetitive?
#Sky devs keep saying that the game isnt just about affording outfits#but like...the gameplay doesnt really support that Im sorry.#And just to be clear I'm autistic so gameplay loops definitely appeal to me!#But I just wish there was more to do that wasnt there to make candle/heart number go up#or required you to have 10+ friends in order to even try.#Like the treehouse for me is still unfinished because I don't know enough people to complete it with me.#Controversial take but Sky....isn't even built well for friendgroups imo#theres so little to do after the main game that unless youre nd in a very particular way (like me)#or idk have problems with game addiction (bc lets be honest it's only one lootbox mechanic away from being a clothes gatcha)#then theres no real reason to keep playing long term even if you DO have friends.#It reminds me a little of Sea of Thieves in that it is best played with friends so you can make your own stories#but Sea of Thieves has more avenues to interact with the game world so it lends itself quite well to RP.#Sky doesnt imo.

1 March 2023
Isn't it crazy how everything fades. Coping with the photos, the tshirts, the rings that I will never see again has always been difficult for me. Possibly more difficult than the loss of moments, of people. As time marches forward it continuously gives me a chance at a clean slate. A smaller circle of people means more condensed, manageable relationships. But I am a collector, and when I lose something I had collected it makes me question what the quest for it had even been for.
Getting older has made me appreciate those real moments more. I continuously try to lessen my possessions; I know, I have always known, that minimalism is the only way for me to have a healthy relationship with the material world. I want to work more and more to practice it.
I wasn't going to start a blog. I had the idea to start a blog about books towards the beginning of autumn, during my first semester of university. Then I decided against it, instead opting to put those thoughts into my journal; once again not really desiring to put my art, my thoughts, my life onto the internet. Not wanting to participate in a more modern form of expression, instead embracing the pen and paper journaling I have always loved. But I see where a blog fits into my life, and I decided to start one today spontaneously.
The name for the blog is currently:: "treehousemeetings", although I hope to workshop it more. It's supposed to be as if we had gotten home from school and climbed up the ladder into my treehouse. Here we were to escape. There's a chest in this treehouse, filled with comfy clothes and costumes and we take silly pictures with our disposable cameras in cool outfits. There are also journals in this tree house, and pencils, empty for us to write poetry and draw scribbles. There are soft blankets and big pillows and a hammock, of course. The leaves hang and enshroud us in green as we talk about concepts that nag us, about things we love, about things we hope for.
So that will be the criteria of what I blog about. Definitely book reviews, movie critics, products of the modern world as well. I think that maybe one day I'll print out all my posts and put them into a journal.
Haha, I cannot help but think up ways to tangibly record my life.
Until tomorrow,
xxx

Warnings: Swearing, blood, violence
[Ch1]->[Ch2]->[Ch3]->[Ch4]->[Ch5]->[Ch6]
“SHO!!!” You scream, snapping your torso up from the bed you lay on.
Wait...A bed..?
Your brain just tripped over itself as the memories came flooding back to you. The forest, the attackers, the beast, and then...that man.
You clutched your forehead in pain. Where the hell were you?
You place a hand on the furry and weighted blanket that covers you. It was nice. Quite a bit warmer than the blankets you had at home-
You shook your head. If this is how distracted you get now, you must’ve hit it at some point. You look around the room you were in. It was nice and dimly lit due to closed curtains, but plain. All that filled the space were you, the bed, and a small wooden dresser to your left with a tall cup of water on top.
Water. Sweet, sweet water. You chugged it down, throat parched from the previous events. The cool refreshing liquid woke up some of your senses. Slowly, your grogginess was replaced with the soreness of your muscles. You started to regret sitting up so suddenly. The side you were kicked on started to throb more and more.
You look down at the side in pain, seeing that your blazer and dress were replaced with a simple white wrap skirt secured with a knot around your chest. You felt almost naked, cold too. Never have your arms, chest, and legs been as exposed as they are now. Even your long nightdress had sleeves.
But that wasn’t important. You were in this strange place, Sho is nowhere to be found, and your things are gone. You needed to know more. Now, you may have been overreacting a bit, but what’s the harm in coming prepared? You break the glass you drank from earlier, grabbing the biggest piece and tearing some of the fabric you were wearing to wrap around the shard for a handle. You didn’t know what to expect, but at least you had something to defend yourself with.
You held it in the front as you slowly pushed the creaky door open. You thought you were ready for anything, but you weren’t expecting to be atop a balcony overseeing a complex combination of treehouses, bridges, and grounded buildings all surrounded by stone walls, complete with archers in loose armor patrolling the top. It wasn’t like any of the armor your guards wore though. It consisted of metal, like the knights in your father’s army, but they also wore feathers, leather straps, and colorful face paint. If you had to guess, you were nowhere near your own kingdom. They kept watch of the forest while the rest of the citizens of this odd town bustle happily below. Adults traded and conversed with one another while the children played with balls or kites below. All of them wear similar outfits to yours, comfortable and with a closer connection to nature. Some women wore clay beads around their heads like crowns paired with bright, multi-layered dresses made of choppy fabric. Most men wore loose shirts, some went bare chested, all wore slightly baggy pants, usually with multiple belts. A stark contrast to the puffy floor length dresses and tight pants of your people.
So where exactly were you?
“Do you like the view?” a voice said behind you.
It made you jump, and instinctively, you turn to hold out the makeshift knife you temporarily forgot about. The man you pointed the sharp edge at yelped and held both hands up as he rounded the corner.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have sneaked up on ya.” he smiles sheepishly.
He was a red-headed man with spiky hair, a short vest, bandana, and baggy pants. Similar to the people below. From what you could see, no weapons. Still, you keep the blade pointed at his exposed torso. You’ve never killed anyone before, and the thought scares you, the overwhelming fear of being here in strange clothes scared you even more.
You take a step back, trying to distance yourself from the newcomer. “Who are you?”.
“Eijiro Kirishima, right hand man of King Bakugou. I’m glad to see you awake and well.” he says, not moving from his spot. “We’ve met before, your highness.”
“Huh?” You say, dumbfounded. You’ve never seen this man in your life. You would’ve known if you did, his face is...very memorable.
He pointed to the decently sized scar on his face. It traveled from his right corner of his lip and up to the bridge of his nose. It wasn’t bright red, but it still looked like it had only recently healed. A cut like that would’ve taken at least a week for it to stop being inflamed; you wondered how he’d gotten it or why he was pointing to it.
You shook your head, not understanding.
Kirishima chuckles nervously, “Well uh, it might be hard to explain, but uh first things first, I came here to check on you. How’s that rib feeling?”
“My rib? It...hurts a lot” you admit, lowering the glass shard. ‘Hurt’ was an understatement though, it felt like it was on fire. Your side throbbing painfully with each breath you took. Adrenaline could only mask it for so long.
He nods and slowly approaches you again, hands out where you could see them. “Let’s get you back in bed” he says, gently scooping the glass out of your hand and placing it in his back pocket.
Hesitantly, you complied, weary of the shard being in his possession. At least, he seemed like he didn’t want to kill you. You leaned back into bed, muscles screaming from the short encounter. It’s only now you truly realize the extent of your injuries. You hissed as Kirishima readjusted your pillow as best he could, shaking the bed a bit.
“Now that you’re awake, I’ll let Deku take a look at you. He’s our medicine man, or doctor if you like.” And with that, he walks out, closing the door behind him.
But you couldn’t stay still. Even though your ribs hurt, you couldn’t sit back and wait. If you’re being nursed here, Shoto must be nearby. And besides, they don’t want to hurt you, right? After all, as you hauled yourself up and headed to the door once more, you found it still unlocked. You weren’t their prisoner.
You took a peek around the corner that you saw Kirishima come around last time. It led to a free hanging wooden bridge to another tree. The other side of your cabin led to some steps that took a wide curve around a wooden pillar of some sort, but taking a look upwards only showed you that it wasn’t a pillar at all: It was an absolute unit of a tree. Incredibly thick, and at least 500 feet tall, the tree had stairs carved from all over its sides and bridges split off to smaller trees holding up houses. An even more intricate pattern of pathways sat above your head than what you saw the first time when you looked on the balcony.
You clutched the railings, making your way up the stairs and onto the first platform branching off into other paths. Your “room” was just a simple block, fitted halfway into the trunk of the big tree. Woven branches and leaves make a simple flat roof; not much different from any other building here. Guess you’re just gonna have to find someone who knows this place. Preferably not Kirishima. You had a feeling he’d just bring you back to your room.
You hauled yourself up more stairs, opting to take the paths closer to the tree. Traversing mazes was never your strong suit, and this place could get you lost in a few seconds.
The further you went along the stairs, the harder it was for you to breathe. Your injury was draining your energy fast, making your body feel like a thousand pounds. Maybe going back to bed wasn’t a bad idea at all.
Just as you were about to give up and sit down, you came across a wider bridge, one that was definitely a lot more extravagantly built than the last. Thicker, and with decorative railings. It was built between the tree itself and a large mountaintop so tall, you couldn’t see the top. The bridge extended in a T shape, the horizontal bit from the tree built to the length of one wall of the kingdom to another with stairs down to where the guards patrolled. At the smaller section of the T sat a huge double doorway, carved from the wood of the tree you’ve been climbing around for the past 10 minutes. It depicted battles, warriors wielding swords and fighting alongside winged beasts of enormous size...Dragons. Then it clicked. Kinda. You swung at that large beast before, at its snout right when it was right behind you. And Kirishima had a scar along his mouth and nose...
Kirishima = Dragon?
You shook your head, unable to fully convince yourself. It must be your pain fogging your mind a bit. You guess it was the same reason you were walking through those double doors. Big doors were the norm for you, being a princess after all. In your state of confusion, it’s better to go with more familiarity. You pulled it open with a bit of difficulty and slipped in as the doors slowly closed behind you without a sound. Just as you suspected, it was a grand hall for royalty that was almost as big as your father’s. The room was curved, thanks to the tree’s natural design. Flowered vines decorated the plain walls. An empty throne of wood and bones sat in front of what you thought must be the opening to the other side of the tree. You could see the sunshine bathe the throne in its gentle light.
You straightened your composure subconsciously, as you’ve been taught to in throne rooms like these, and walked to the throne. Bones and wood, delicately intertwined with one another to form a beautiful crest along the top of the backrest and pair of armrests. You dragged your fingers along the sanded wood gingerly, admiring the craftsmanship. Swords were stabbed in between, like trophies. Some chipped, others completely broken in half. All went through obvious signs of battle. Losing battles, that is. This was a throne for a King that should be feared. Unlike your father and birth giver’s thrones, which symbolized elegance and formality, this one was fierce, powerful, and dangerous. For some reason, your mind was reminded of the man with the Vermillion eyes. How he strode proudly with bold movements, the same way you’ve seen your father or King Enji act when confronted. Was he the one who owned this throne?
A few feet behind it were steps leading up to a large balcony, open to give an extraordinary view of the kingdom you saw before. You walked up the steps slowly, entranced by the calm sight of the sky and trees. A warm breeze lifted the stray hairs from your face, and you felt calm, your injuries temporarily forgotten. You thought you saw everything from the height you were at when you first woke up, well, you were a couple hundred feet higher now and so much more had been revealed. You could see the exact boundary of walls that protected the civilians, previously hidden by other trees. A huge, open gate on the other side of the kingdom guarded by tiny soldiers both on ground and up on the wall. The complex bridges you saw earlier seemed to build around this area so as to not obstruct the view. You dared not to go straight to the railings though, it felt out of place for you to be watching over someone else’s civilians. So just at the top of the stairs you stayed.
Along the sides of the extended walls where the stairs were built, hung swords of all shapes and sizes, snugly staggered amongst each other like decorations. Each one told a story, from the blade type down to the hilt decorations. You wonder who wielded each magnificent weapon. The man you fought had a sword worn down from no doubt years of battle, more so than any of these blades on the wall.
“I wonder where he is.” you spoke out loud.
“Where who is?” a gruff voice responded.
You froze in place.
Speak of the devil. There he was. He appeared around the left side of the throne, nonchalantly leaning an elbow above his head on it. He wore the same attire as before, cutlass hanging at his side- only this time, tribal beads and threaded teeth hung around his neck. The sunlight coming from the open spaces behind you revealed his hair to be golden, as well as uncovered the many battle scars that previously blended with his skin underneath the pale moonlight. He made your shrink a bit in his presence.
He cocked his head to one side, lifting an eyebrow at your staring. “Well?”
Snapping out of your thoughts, you forced yourself to say something. “Sorry, You, you’re..and then...Uh…” you managed to spit out, ears burning. You couldn’t look at him straight. He only narrowed his eyebrows in response. ‘Great job (y/n), he thinks you’re a moron now.’ you scold yourself.
“Maybe that shitty Deku got it wrong, and you’re the one with the concussion.” he scoffed.
“I have no such thing!” you blurted out. You tried to look him in the eyes again, but the dominance they radiated made you feel like a pup caught disobeying her master. But why? You’re royalty, a future Queen! You shouldn’t let the likes of him intimidate you like this!
So you stood up straight again, taking a deep breath and raising your chin to address the man in front of you properly. Your insides felt like they were being stabbed with a flaming rod, but you refused to succumb to it now. “I lost myself a bit there. I’ve come here for answers.” you say, clasping both hands together. “Where is the leader of this Kingdom?”
Unfazed by your new composure, he stared right back. “You’re lookin at him.”
“And your name?”
“Why does that matter?”
“It matters because I’d like to know to whom I’m speaking with.” you grit your teeth.
“Oh, and what gives you the right, little thief?” he says, raising an eyebrow.
“I’m not a thief,” you growl, “I’m princess (y/n) of the Northern Kingdom, first and rightful heir to the throne. As a fellow royal, I deserve the right to know who you are.”
At your words, his body went rigid. “You deserve it, huh?” He moved from his spot at the throne, up the stairs towards you and towering over your figure. You shuffled backwards in alarm. “You, a Northern pansy with your tea parties, lazing around in your kingdom, not giving a damn about the ecosystem around you. You call that royalty?” He spat, raising his voice. You could feel the heat radiating from his body, physical heat, fueled by his anger. “Destroying more of my home to make room for your stupid roads. Killing my people’s food for sport and leaving the skinless carcass to rot so you could have your stupid exotic rugs- I’ve seen how much you people take for granted. If it weren’t for the size of your army, I would’ve conquered you assholes by now. Why did I even listen to that damn Kirishima, I should’ve left you and your boyfriend in the forest. At least you’d be useful for once-”
“Wait, I think you’re overreacting here, and he’s not-” you tried to reason, stumbling over your feet. You completely lost your composure now, your heart practically beating out of its chest.
“Or your brother, I don’t give a damn who he is, my people are running out of food because of yours- but I don’t think you ever knew, huh? Probably worried over some bullshit like what you’re gonna wear, or if some other pretty boy prince out there thought you were cute.” He continued. You back found the edge of the railing and you latched your hands onto it. Taking a quick glance backwards, you found the height a little terrifying now.
Well, I’m over here hunting day and night to find meals and what do I get? Two more mouths to feed. Useless, pathetic weights on my back. If you wanna talk about being my fellow royal-”
“Bakugou, stop!” you hear Kirishima’s voice echo.
Kirishima. Oh thank god Kirishima is here.
The newly identified “Bakugou” snaps his head to the side at the voice. You look around Bakugou’s figure to see the redhead entering through the doorway, a stranger with green hair trailing behind him.
“You need to eat, Kachaan.” the stranger says. “We’re not starving, Denki found a whole new area with more game- but you can’t hunt it if you’re the one hungry.”
“Stop telling me what to do, I’ll eat when the provisions are restocked.” he turned to the side to face the pair and glared.
Kirishima in the meantime had already ran across the hall, climbing the stairs up to you two. “It’s been three days, brother, you’re getting aggressive.”
Bakugou took another glance at your shocked figure, and for a moment, you could see a pang of guilt hit him. But it was fleeting. His face returned to and scowl and he scoffed, fully turning around and heading down the steps past his comrade. “Aggression is what’s kept this kingdom prosperous.”
“Well, yelling at her highness isn’t very prosperous.” he shot back, tracking the blonde with his eyes.
The stranger made his way next to you, placing a reassuring hand on your shoulder. Kirishima acknowledged him and rushed off towards the doors with his leader.
“Well they’re always talking about equality for some goddamn reason, why can’t I yell at them like men?” Bakugou threw his hands up in the air.
“That’s not what they’re talking about…” the other man responded.
Their voices grew distant as they left the hall, leaving you and the kind stranger. With Bakugou gone, you released the breath you didn’t realize you were holding and fell to your knees, groaning.
So, that was Bakugou. You didn’t wanna think about what could’ve happened if Kirishima hadn’t stopped him.
“Woah, hey, uh, we should get you back to your room.” he says, cradling your shoulders. “I’m Izuku Midoriya by the way, but you can call me Deku.”
“(Y/n)” you strained. “Nice to... nice to meet you Deku, but I can’t go back yet. I have to make sure Sho is ok…”
Deku brought you back up to your feet, sliding an arm around your waist and a head under your arm. “Sho? Is that your friend?”
“yeah,” you nodded as the two of you began heading to the door yourselves, “my childhood friend. We were...we got lost...”
“Lost? We could send a messenger out to your kingdom and let them know you’re here-” He says.
“No!” You yelled. Deku looked taken aback and gave you a concerned look. A little embarrassed, you cleared your throat. “No. It’s ok, I uh, I’d prefer we don’t make a huge deal about this.”
Deku chuckled, “Oh, of course my lady, but, are you sure you’re ok to go visit him?”
“Please, I was the one who caught him in all of this mess.”
He smiled as he pushed one of the doors open with his foot, and headed down the steps almost as far as where your own room was, only before the last flight of stairs he took a bridge across to another tree where a small cluster of buildings sat. He gently slid out from besides you to open the front door. Sho laid flat on the bed in front, quietly sleeping. He looked much better now. The lump on his face had almost disappeared, wrapped heavily in clean bandages. He was shirtless as well, only more bandages covering his chest and parts of his arm. He had bruises everywhere, but otherwise, he looked taken care of. In addition to the bedside dresser, there was a small wooden table to his right with tools, bandages, and washcloths. He must’ve needed stitches. You teared up at the sight, feeling guilty again for all the trouble you caused.
Deku gently placed a hand on your shoulder again, leading you to a couch on the side of the room. “He’s got a concussion as well as deep cuts here and there, but he’ll make a full recovery in about three weeks. I’m going to have him stay in bed for a week and a half and then go from there.”
“It’s all my fault,” you whispered, voice cracking. At this point, you couldn’t hold back the tears anymore.
“What? No, it’s those people in the forest. Wild people. They like to mess with anyone caught out at night. Except for kach- erm, The King. They’re terrified of him.”
You sniffed, “Bakugou, right?”
“Y-yeah,” he rubbed the back of his neck, “we grew up together, so I’m used to calling him Kacchan. It was just a name and uh, oh, and, I’m sorry for the way he acted, he’s been out scouting food for a while, not eating at all. He thinks the forest is slowly going dry. He’s a good person, I promise, he just has a mean face. He must’ve scared you.”
“It’s ok,” you shook your head. “He was...he was right. About my people.” You wiped the tears from your eyes, staring at the wall in front of you. “My father, he likes money and power. He likes seeing happy and rich citizens. I used to think it was because he cared about them when really, it’s so he could show off to other kingdoms. I could hear them sometimes, talking about expanding towards the forest, cutting down more trees for a new library or something. He liked the pelts too, making me little stuffed rabbits when I was younger. I always thought it was ok though, I never knew people lived here. Now I feel awful.”
Deku gave you a kind smile. “Hey, but it wasn’t you, right? That was your dad. Don’t beat yourself up over his decisions.”
“Yeah” you sighed, “I guess.”
Deku’s smile grew bigger, and he pushed himself off the couch. You watched him walk over to the dresser and opened up one of the drawers to pull out a small blanket.
“Here” he said, unfolding the blanket and handing it to you. “I’m gonna go grab the medicinal tea I brought to your room, it’ll help with the pain. Uh, I’m not quite sure, but I think you may have slightly fractured a rib, so the best thing we could do is let it heal itself for a week. Who knows, it might just be bruised.”
“Thanks.” you say, laying yourself down on the couch in the meantime. After Deku came back with that tea, you passed out fast.
You had a dream. Your father was right in front of you, raising his sword above his head. He was scared of something, but you couldn’t tell what. The background was fuzzy, but you could see it was destroyed. You were raising your arms, protecting someone. Everything was in slow motion, fading slowly to white.
You spasmed awake, inhaling sharply. The image faded fast out of your mind. Shoto was snoring lightly on the bed, arm lazily resting atop his stomach. Good. Sighing, you set aside the blanket and walked out the door for some fresh air. The tea helped you a lot, even now. You didn’t even feel any pain. The moon shone brightly again as the breeze cooled your skin, giving you deja vu of the whole fiasco from before. Except this time, this was peaceful. You weren’t lost. No one was chasing you. And most importantly, you and Shoto were safe. Everything was good for now.
A large shadow fluttered in the corner of your eye, causing you to jump a bit. A red dragon with magnificent wings landed in the clearing by the kingdom gates, which were now closed shut. Its rider, the buttholeish King, yelled at the guards. They notched their arrows, shooting into the forest with expertise. A roar of some sort of animal retreated, rustling trees in its wake. Bakugou slid down from its neck to untie the fresh animal carcasses secured on the dragon’s back. Other soldiers came from the buildings to help carry them. Then, as Bakugou hopped to the ground, the dragon began to shrink back into itself. Wings folded into his backside, neck shortening, and body losing its color to turn into...Kirishima. It blew your mind. So you really did hit him hard back there. You had to apologize.
You rushed down the steps to find them, not really thinking about the fact that you had absolutely no idea where you were going. Nor did you really think about your stamina. Five sets of stairs and you were already panting.
As you leaned against the tree, trying to be careful with your breaths. It still didn’t hurt, but damn did you get tired quick. Just as you were turning to tackle another flight, a head of blonde hair appeared from below, scowling.
“Again? What is it with you and not sitting still?” he grumbled. You could hear the fatigue in the way his voice cracked.
You sat up from the tree, surprised that he climbed so fast. “I, er, wanted to apologize to Kirishima for the wound is all.” you rubbed your arm nervously as he stopped in front of you.
He eyes you with skepticism, probably wondering if you were telling the truth or not. “He’s gonna be taking care of the fresh meat for a while, and probably sleep till late afternoon knowing the lazy idiot.” he grumbles.
“Oh.” you say, still kind of embarrassed.
“And besides, he’s fine. He heals like it’s nothing.”
“Because he’s a dragon…?”
“Heh, something like that.”
“Oh.”
You two sit in silence for a moment after that. The awkwardness was almost unbearable.
“This reminds me, Shitty Hair wanted me to do something. Can you walk up the stairs?” he finally asks.
You shrug, “I’ll get up there eventually.” you respond.
“Well, I don’t have time to wait for ‘eventually’” he says, and lifts you up off the ground with both arms. He hugs you close to his bare chest and climbs the stairs with no problem, not even a slight change in breathing.
You help a bit, holding on to his neck for support. “Where-“
“I have to give you your shit back.” He grunts. “You lived so I don’t get to keep your sword.”
“What an awful mouth you have for a king.” You frown.
He smirks in response, “you haven’t seen the half of it, princess.”
Princess. The way he says “princess” sends shivers down your spine. You don’t know why, but you found yourself staring at his features again. Hair shining almost white again, gently waving in the wind. Piercing eyes, sharp jawline, defined collarbones…
“Oi, quit starin.” He interrupts your thoughts.
“Huh? Why...uh, why would I stare at you?” you say, your voice an octave higher.
He chuckles lightly while you try to look everywhere but him. He passes Shoto’s room and instead keeps heading upwards. Past the throne room too, taking a staircase to a room above it. He pushes it open to a gorgeous bedroom. The amount of oil lamps lining the walls could barely light up the entirety of the room. Giant bed with plush pillows along one wall, a balcony on the other side of the room, a door leading to what you think is a bathroom, and lots and lots of “trophies” hanging up on the wall. Helmets, swords, capes, horns, claws- must be from what he killed. One horn spread the length across the wall from his bed, being almost 10 feet long. You’d be terrified to know what creature that belonged to...or, had belonged to. Still, they were oddly beautiful. Clearly, they were a struggle to take down, judging by the damaged sword Bakugou wielded and the slight deformities in the trophies themselves. A crack down the middle of a knight’s helmet. Multiple tears in a blue and white feathered cape. It was almost surreal to you, that a man that could win all these vicious battles can gently place you on the soft cushions of one of the few couches that occupied his room.
Walking to his bed, he picked up an object propped up against the bed frame. He trunks to you, holding it flat against both hands. Your sword!
He unsheathed it, examining the blade in the dim lamplights with approval. “This is made of Awherian metal, better not lose it.” he says, sheathing it and handing it back to you. You take it gingerly, propping it by your feet.
“Awherian?” You repeated.
“Awherians used to be a tribe up in the North before going extinct a long time ago. Legends say they used to battle giants, cuz they ate their dragons...or some bullshit my old hag likes to talk about.” he crosses his arms.
He took notice of you lowering your head, and sighed, rubbing his neck awkwardly.
“I uh,” he cleared his throat, “I shouldn’t have said all that. Earlier, I mean. Kirishima was right about being hungry, I don’t usually yell at women. Unless they’re trying to kill me, you know.”
“It’s ok,” you lean back into the couch, “you weren’t wrong. I said this to Deku earlier already: I thought my father was doing the right thing because he, well, he’s my father. If I had known there was a whole civilization here...I just...I hope I can help.”
He looked at you for a few seconds, calculating. Were you genuinely being honest? Maybe, he thought. He has his doubts still.
Bakugou was always weary about newcomers, and didn’t take too kindly to them. The only reason these two were brought in was because Kirishima urged him to. The king refused at first, reasoning that this could’ve been a set-up, that the cult that pranced the outskirts of their territory had a plan to send in spies this way. Of course, Kirishima says that there’s no way they would possibly injure their own like this, leaving them one step away from death, but Bakugou has seen their ways. They would eat each other if they wanted to. Eventually, he gave in on the reasoning that they weren’t the smartest of people. You seemed different. He ordered his closest men, including that shitty Deku to keep an eye on you both.
“Maybe you could. Who fuckin knows” He says, “but not when you can’t even climb fucking stairs without wheezing like a granny.” He says, earning a slightly offended whine from you. He smiles lightly, then points to his bed with a thumb. “Go.”
You look at him, perplexed. “In your bed?”
“No shit, it’s the middle of the night.” He narrows his eyes.
“I’m, b-but we’re not married-“ you stuttered.
Bakugou rolls his eyes, “relax princess, you have it to yourself. I just don’t feel like taking you back down to your room, or to that half n half bastard.”
With a grunt, he picks you up off the couch and onto the bed. The plush blankets swallowing you almost immediately.
“Do you like insulting people?” you ask as he throws the blanket over you.
“I dunno, do you like breathing, or is it just something you do?”
“You’re impossible.” You rolled your eyes. “Where are you going to sleep?”
“The couch.” He replies, undoing the buckles on his cape. “Sleep, we’ll have you properly taken care of tomorrow, starting with a bath.” He wrinkled his nose.
“Hey!” you pouted. A bath sounds wonderful though.
“You were supposed to be in bed all day today, but whatever.” he sighs. He folded his cape neatly and placed it on his bedside dresser, then flopped onto a couch on the far side of the room, facing away from you. Eventually, his muscles relaxed and you could hear soft puffs of breaths as he slept.
It was calming in a way. Every night, even as a small child afraid of the dark spaces in your room, you slept alone. You had to overcome that fear alone, your mother definitely didn’t want you bothering her, and your father was far too tired from dealing with the kingdom all day. But knowing someone else was in the room felt, in an odd way, nice. You drifted off again, but this time, without dreams.

let's talk about andi mack's worldbuilding
sorry this took forever to make! i've been pretty busy with school stuff and i kind of lost my inspiration for a bit, but i ultimately really enjoyed writing it! i wish i could've included more pics (tumblr has a max of 10 per post), and it kinda turned from less of a mini analysis to more of an extremely long rant... but i hope it's still a fun read!
i've been rewatching the show over the past few weeks (thanks again to @disneymack for the link!), and i’ve been noticing a lot that i never did the first time around. this is really the first time i’ve watched the show from start to finish since it aired, and it honestly feels so different this time - probably a combination of the fact that i’m not as focused on plot and can appreciate the show as a whole, and also that the fandom is much, much smaller now, so there’s a lot less noise. so the way i’m consuming this show feels super different than it did the first time, but the show itself doesn’t - it’s just as warm and comforting to me as it was the first time around, if not more so.
i think a lot of that can be attributed to andi mack’s “worldbuilding”. i’m not quite sure that this is the right word in this context, to be honest, because i mostly see it used in reference to fantasy and sci-fi universes, but it just sort of feels right to me for andi mack, because you can really tell how much love and care went into constructing this universe. for clarity, worldbuilding is “the process of creating an imaginary world” in its simplest sense. there’s two main types: hard worldbuilding, which involves inventing entire universes, languages, people, cultures, places, foods, etc. from scratch (think “lord of the rings” or “dune”), and soft worldbuilding, in which the creators don’t explicitly state or explain much about the fictional universe, but rather let it’s nature reveal itself as the story progresses (think studio ghibli films). andi mack to me falls in the soft worldbuilding category. even though it takes place in a realistic fiction universe, there’s a lot of aspects to it that are inexplicably novel in really subtle ways.
so watching the show now, i’ve noticed that the worldbuilding comes primarily from two things - setting and props, and oftentimes the both of them in tandem (because a big part of setting in filmmaking does depend on the props placed in it!).
one of the most obvious examples is the spoon. it really is a sort of quintessential, tropic setting in that it's the main gang's "spot", which automatically gives it a warm and homey feel to it. and its set design only amplifies this:
the choice to make it a very traditional 50s-style diner creates a very nostalgic, retro feel to it, which is something that's really consistent throughout the show, as you'll see. from the round stools at the bar, to the booths, to the staff uniforms, this is very obvious. the thing that i found especially interesting about it though is the choice of color. the typical 50s diner is outfitted with metallic surfaces and red accented furnishings, but the spoon is very distinctly not this.
instead, it's dressed in vibrant teal and orange, giving it a very fresh and modern take on a classic look. so it still maintains that feeling of being funky and retro, but that doesn't retract from the fact that the show is set distinctly in modern times.
of course, this could just be a one-off quirky set piece, but this idea of modernizing and novelizing "retro" things is a really common motif throughout the show. take red rooster records. i mean, it's a record shop - need i say more? it's obviously a very prominent store in shadyside, at least for the main characters, but there's no apparent reason why it is (until season 2 when bowie starts working there, and jonah starts performing there). a lot of the time, though, it functions solely as a record shop. vinyl obviously isn't the most practical or convenient way of listening to music, but it's had its resurgence in pop culture even in the real world, mostly due to its aesthetic value, so it's safe to say that it serves the same purpose in the andi mack universe.
the fringe seems to be nostalgic of a different era, specifically the Y2K/early 2000s period (because it's meant to be bex's territory and symbolic of who she used to be, and its later transformation into cloud 10 is representative of her character arc, but that's beside the point). to be honest, exactly what this store was supposed to be always confused me. it was kind of a combination party store/clothing store/makeup store/beauty parlor? i think that's sort of the point of it though, it's supposed to feel very grunge-y and chaotic (within the confines of a relatively mellow-toned show, of course), and it's supposed to act as a sort of treasure chest of little curios that both make the place interesting and allow the characters to interact with it.
and, of course, there's andi shack. this is really the cherry on top of all of andi mack's sets, just because it's so distinctly andi. it serves such amazing narrative purpose for her (ex. the storyline where cece and ham were going to move - i really loved this because it highlights its place in the andi mack universe so well, and i'm a sucker for the paper cranes shot + i'm still salty that sadie's cranes didn't make it into the finale) and it's the perfect reflection of andi's character development because of how dynamic it is (the crafts and art supplies can get moved around or switched out, and there's always new creations visible).
going back to the nostalgia motif though, the "shack" aspect of it always struck me as very treehouse-like. personally, whenever i think of treehouses, there's this very golden sheen of childhood about it, if that makes sense. i've always seen treehouses in media as a sort of shelter for characters' youthful innocence and idealistic memories. for example, the episode "up a tree" from good luck charlie, the episode "treehouse" from modern family, and "to all the boys 2" all use a treehouse setting as a device to explore the character's desire to hold onto their perfect image of their childhood (side note: this exact theme is actually explored in andi mack in the episode "perfect day 2.0"!). andi shack is no exception to this, but it harnesses this childhood idealism in the same way that it captures the nostalgia of the 50s in the spoon, or the early 2000s in the fringe. it's not some image of a distant past being reflected through that setting; it's very present, and very alive, because it reflects andi as she is in the given moment.
some honorable mentions of more one-off settings include the ferris wheel (from "the snorpion"), the alley art gallery (from "a walker to remember"), SAVA, the color factory (from "it's a dilemna"), and my personal favorite, the cake shop (from "that syncing feeling").
[every time i watch this episode i want to eat those cakes so bad]
these settings have less of a distinctly nostalgic feel (especially the color factory, which is a very late 2010s, instagram era setting), but they all definitely have an aura of perfection about them. andi mack is all about bright, colorful visuals, and these settings really play to that, making the andi mack universe seem really fun and inviting, and frankly very instagrammable (literally so, when it comes to the color factory!).
props, on the other hand, are probably a much less obvious tool of worldbuilding. they definitely take up less space in the frame and are generally not as noticeable (i'm sure i'll have missed a bunch that will be great examples, but i'm kind of coming up with all of this off the top of my head), but they really tie everything together.
for example, bex's box, bex's polaroid, and the old tv at the mack apartment (the tv is usually only visible in the periphery of some shots, so you might not catch it at first glance) all complement that very retro aesthetic established through the settings (especially the polaroid and the tv, because there's really no good reason that the characters would otherwise be using these).
besides this, andi's artistic nature provides the perfect excuse for plenty of colorful, crafty props to amplify the visuals and the tone. obviously, as i discussed before, andi shack is the best example of this because it's filled with interesting props. but you also see bits of andi's (and other people's) crafts popping up throughout the show (ex. the tape on the fridge in the mack apartment, andi's and libby's headbands in "the new girls", walker's shoes, andi's phone case, and of course, the bracelet). not only does doing this really solidify this talent as an essential tenet of andi's character, but it also just makes the entirety of shadyside feel like an extension of andi shack. the whole town is a canvas for her crafts (or art, depending on how you want to look at it. i say it's both), and it immensely adds to shadyside's idealism. because who wouldn't want to live in a world made of andi mack's creations?
and, while it's not exactly a prop, the characters' wardrobe is undoubtedly a major influence on the show's worldbuilding. true to it's nature as a disney channel show, all of the characters are always dressed in exceptionally curated outfits of whatever the current trends are, making the show that much more visually appealing. i won't elaborate too much on this, because i could honestly write a whole other analysis on andi mack's fashion (my favorites are andi's and bex's outfits! and kudos to the costume designer(s) for creating such wonderful and in-character wardrobes!). but, i think it's a really really important aspect of how the show's universe is perceived, so it had to be touched upon.
[^ some of my favorite outfits from the show! i am so obsessed with andi's jacket in the finale, and i aspire to be at bex's level of being a leather jacket bisexual]
and lastly, phones. this is a bit of an interesting case (pun intended), because the way they're used fluctuates a bit throughout the show, but i definitely noticed that at least in the first season terri minsky tried to avoid using them altogether. these efforts at distancing from modern tech really grounds the show in it's idealist, nostalgia-heavy roots, so even when the characters start using their phones more later in the show, they don't alter the viewer's impression of the andi mack universe very much.
so, what does all of this have to do with worldbuilding? in andi mack's case, because it's set in a realistic universe and not a fantasy one, a lot of what sets it apart from the real world comes down to tone. because, as much as this world is based on our own, it really does feel separate from it, like an alternate reality that's just slightly more perfect than ours, which makes all the difference. it's the idealism in color and composition in andi mack's settings that makes it so unmistakably andi mack. even the weather is always sunny and perfect (which is incredibly ironic because the town is called shadyside - yes, i am very proud of that observation).
the andi mack universe resides somewhere in this perfect medium that makes it feel like a small town in the middle of nowhere (almost like hill valley in 1955 from "back to the future"), but at the same time like an enclave within a big city (because of its proximity to so many modern, unique, and honestly very classy looking establishments). it is, essentially, an unattainable dream land that tricks you into believing it is attainable because it's just real enough.
all this to say, andi mack does an amazing job of creating of polished, perfect world for its characters. this is pretty common among disney channel and nickelodeon shows, but because most other shows tend to be filmed in a studio with three-wall sets, andi mack is really set apart from them in that it automatically feels more real and tangible. it has its quintessential recurring locations, but it has far more of them (most disney/nick shows usually only have 3-4 recurring settings), and it has a lot more one-off locations. it's also a lot more considerate when it comes to its props, so rather than the show just looking garish and aggressively trendy, it has a distinctive style that's actually appropriate to the characters and the story. overall this creates the effect of expanding the universe, making shadyside feel like it really is a part of a wider world, rather than an artificial bubble. it's idealism is, first and foremost, grounded in reality, and that provides a basis for its brilliant, creative, and relatable storytelling.
tl;dr: andi mack's sets and props give it a very retro and nostalgic tone which makes its whole universe seem super perfect and i want to live there so bad!!
