today was a bit of a rollercoaster day. we picked my parents up around 9:30 for some sunday plans we had made and my dad was in a foul mood. he oscillated between ignoring everyone for a 50 minute car ride to having us sing happy birthday on a voicemail for my uncle. i struggle with this dynamic my dad makes me play out sometimes where he’s the child and i’m the adult who is trying to keep him pacified. sigh. we did have a good time at the christmas village even though it got sooo crowded by the time we left. then everyone finally relaxed a bit once we got to the brewery & had some pizza and alcohol in our systems. i haven’t had alcohol in nearly a year but this outing definitely required something to take the edge off. i got a valencia orange and thyme vodka soda, it was delightful. i was so relieved to drop my parents off - the irony being that they left saying they had such a good time and sara and i immediately had a conflict about how frustrating it was. i’m thankful we have all the tools to overcome our conflicts because these family ones can be QUITE a doozy. 🫠

Day 169: Saturday June 18, 2022 - “Buffalo to Boston”

 A hop filled road led us through Upstate New York, and the capital of the Empire State where we found a great brewery called Fort Orange, where we learned the history of the Orange in the area, while enjoying a Costco-chicken-picnic in the middle of the bartender’s send off party. “Cheers!” We thought maybe this would be the brew-ha-highlight of the day, but oh no-  just down the road in Mass. Dad introduced me to the Treehouse - now thats a brewery. Only had time to stand in awe of the greatness of the place, before ordering 12 cans to go that we’d enjoy in our hotel outside Hudson MA that night.  “That beer tried to kill me” but I did really enjoy the good Old Man ESB.  Resetting outside Boston, I got the gift of reading the stories my parents had written about their recent ramble and remembering all those cool places they had been together earlier in the year as part of Wms birthday present that also include some good Dr. Seuss...   William could have cared less - he was on a tear through the hotel room, free from his car seat, and squealing to himself as he played with the AC unit on the wall, the office chair, his cars, and of course some “monkeys on the bed” - thinking a great travel day was in the bag and couldn’t possibly get better, I was proven wrong for a second time....When AC set William down on the bed to sleep, he crawled over and fell asleep on me very intentionally.  Thats a first and I was so happy, laying there enjoying it while my parents snored in unison in the next bed over from us.
