You are magnificent and Your grace protects me in the face of evil. Mighty Thor, wise, compassionate Friend of humanity, look upon us and wield Your hammer for our protection. Gracious Sif, You Whose gentle touch causes the grain to grow, please nourish us, restore us, and grant us the fortitude to walk in alignment with the Holy Powers always. Through Your blessings, may we grow strong in faith. through Your blessings may we grow strong in devotion. Through Your blessings, may we always resist impiety, may we be nourished as the grain is nourished under Your caring hands. In times of peril, come to our aid, I pray. In times of desperation, I place myself under Your care.nHail Thor, Son of Odin. Hail Sif, His Gracious Bride.
To Thor
Son of Strength. I ask you to grant me that strength. That I may lift the weight of the day. Defender of Midgard. Grant me your skill in battle. That I may protect my family, my land and my kin. Bringer of Rain and Thunder. Grant me the ability to wash the weariness and pain of my daily work. That I may strike my next task like the blows from Mjolnir. Son of Odin, Hammer Wielder, Giant Killer and Guardian of Man. I ask that you make me like the sturdy oak. That I do not break from the blows of misfortune. That I may not be crushed by the powerful. That I may be resilient and mighty like your own arm. That I may be brave to face the evil of this world. Hail Thor!

Elements: Air Edition
About the air element: The air element is linked to things such as divination, concentration, visualization, and prophecy. Air teaches us how to hone our scattered energy and focus it toward what we want. It teaches us to use our intention. Air can be a big cleanser and also a big charger. Just stand outside for a few momenrs on a windy day, letting it blow around you and play through your hair, and you will feel renewed.
Air in magic: The air element is often used in combination with smoke, feathers, trees, flowers, and plants. It is common to use the air element in both spells that require letting go, and in spells that bring you new information. After all, rumors can travel on the wind. Aromatherapy, hanging objects up, playing the flute or other woodwind instruments, and tossing things to the wind are all examples of using the air element in magic.
Forms of air include: wind, still air, breath, vibrations
Some air spirits include: Sylphs, zephyrs, faeries
Color: Yellow
Direction: East
Tools: Censer, athame, sword, wand
Tarot suit: Swords
Zodiac signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Symbol:
Air in daily life: The most obvious form of air in our daily lives is the air that we breathe. Everyone does it, everyone needs it. Speaking requires the element of air as well, as it carries the vibrations of our voices. We use air to cool off, and every time we look up at the clouds in the sky, we are interacting with the air element.
Air in the home: Similarly to how fire is used to keep our homes warm, air is used to keep them cool. Whether you are opening a window, turning on a fan, using an air conditioner, or fanning yourself with the playbill for your little brother's school performance of Legally Blonde in the stuffy auditorium, you are using air to cool yourself down. Air can also be very healing. How many times have you stepped outside to get some fresh air and take in the breeze while you were feeling sick?
Air in the kitchen: Though it may not be obvious at first, there are some cooking methods that utilize the air element. Perhaps the most common is drying, whether you are drying meat for jerkey or herbs for tea. Then there is cooking with convection heat, which is growing more popular, or cooking with microwaves. Also popular, as seen by the amount of fizzy beverages and whipped toppings available, is carbonation and aeration. There are several foods and ingredients associated with the air element, including~
Almond, anise, bamboo, brazil nut, caraway, chicory, dandelion, endive, hazel, hops, lavender, lime, mace, maple, marjoram, mint, mulberry, parsley, pecan, sage, acorn squash, artichoke, bitter melon, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, fennel, okra, rhubarb, spaghetti squash, alfalfa, cannelini beans, lima beans, mung beans, celery seed, chamomile, rosemary, scallions, amaranth, puffed rice, rye, apple, apricot, blackberry, currants, lingonberry, pear, pineapple, tamarind, pomegranate, black tea, chocolate, coffee, white vinegar, cabbage, celery, grape leaves, mustard greens, daikon, sunchoke, parsnip, hibiscus, macadamia nuts, walnuts, stevia
Herbs associated with air: Frankincense*, myrrh*, pansy, primrose, vervain, violet, yarrow, dill, clove, acacia, aspen, beech, benzoin*, bodhi, bracken, bromeliad, clover, fern, goldenrod, horehound, houseleek, mistletoe*, papyrus, pine, slippery elm, tobacco, rose petals
Stones associated with air: Fluorite, moonstone, turquoise, amethyst, rhodochrosite, topaz, pumice, alexandrite
Animals associated with air: Doves, hawks, eagles, foxes, turtles, ravens, spiders
Incense: Lavender, lemon balm, linden, frankincense, myrrh, violet, anise, chicory, mace, pine
Air on the altar ideas: yellow feathers, feathers in general, bird imagery, incense, censer, bells, flute, objects hanging above the altar
Divination with the air element: Nephomancy, austromancy, alveromancy, feather divination
Air work for spoonies:
Open up the window to watch the sky
Collect feathers or scatter them to the breeze
Keep a handheld fan nearby for when you need to create a breeze of your own
If you dont have your own windchimes, ring bells or listen to recordings of chimes on your phone
Use yellow pillowcases, blankets, sheets, curtains, or wall decorations
Hang beads or ribbons in your window
*Some herbs are unsafe or even deadly to ingest and can be dangerous to use. ALWAYS do research.

Painting of the same title [Love Among The Ruins] , inspired by Browning's poem, by Edward Burne-Jones
+
Here. Have a poem. A beautiful poem. And read it, if you can make time, and if you can stretch your ever-shrinking attention span (like mine is). Not sure why this one today. Maybe because Jerusalem has risen to glory and fallen to desolation repeatedly. It has never been so populous with so many buildings and so much life. It doesn't seem possible it could be desolate yet again. But it probably didn't seem possible at any previous pinnacle either. It certainly didn't to the author of the biblical Lamentations, whose speaker stares in disbelief after its sack by Babylon, as they ask in the opening verse, How sits the city solitary, that was full of people. How is she become as a widow. She that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how has been laid low.
Someday, maybe not all that far off, this place where I love, charmed as I remain by its layers of history and poetry, could resemble Browning's vision. Maybe our great edifices will greet people like broken Ozymandias as an unintended caution against arrogance and vainglory. Certainly enough of that to go around these days. Can it be avoided? Seems like that would be bold new territory for this city, and perhaps all humanity.
Or, maybe just because I love this poem.
+ Love among the Ruins ~Robert Browning
Where the quiet-coloured end of evening smiles, Miles and miles On the solitary pastures where our sheep Half-asleep Tinkle homeward thro' the twilight, stray or stop As they crop— Was the site once of a city great and gay, (So they say) Of our country's very capital, its prince Ages since Held his court in, gathered councils, wielding far Peace or war.
Now the country does not even boast a tree, As you see, To distinguish slopes of verdure, certain rills From the hills Intersect and give a name to, (else they run Into one) Where the domed and daring palace shot its spires Up like fires O'er the hundred-gated circuit of a wall Bounding all Made of marble, men might march on nor be prest Twelve abreast.
And such plenty and perfection, see, of grass Never was! Such a carpet as, this summer-time, o'er-spreads And embeds Every vestige of the city, guessed alone, Stock or stone— Where a multitude of men breathed joy and woe Long ago; Lust of glory pricked their hearts up, dread of shame Struck them tame; And that glory and that shame alike, the gold Bought and sold.
Now—the single little turret that remains On the plains, By the caper overrooted, by the gourd Overscored, While the patching houseleek's head of blossom winks Through the chinks— Marks the basement whence a tower in ancient time Sprang sublime, And a burning ring, all round, the chariots traced As they raced, And the monarch and his minions and his dames Viewed the games.
And I know, while thus the quiet-coloured eve Smiles to leave To their folding, all our many-tinkling fleece In such peace, And the slopes and rills in undistinguished grey Melt away— That a girl with eager eyes and yellow hair Waits me there In the turret whence the charioteers caught soul For the goal, When the king looked, where she looks now, breathless, dumb Till I come.
But he looked upon the city, every side, Far and wide, All the mountains topped with temples, all the glades' Colonnades, All the causeys, bridges, aqueducts,—and then All the men! When I do come, she will speak not, she will stand, Either hand On my shoulder, give her eyes the first embrace Of my face, Ere we rush, ere we extinguish sight and speech Each on each.
In one year they sent a million fighters forth South and North, And they built their gods a brazen pillar high As the sky Yet reserved a thousand chariots in full force— Gold, of course. O heart! oh blood that freezes, blood that burns! Earth's returns For whole centuries of folly, noise and sin! Shut them in, With their triumphs and their glories and the rest! Love is best.

LoZ - Desert-Compatible Crops for Gerudo Desert
This is a list of crops that could be grown in the desert as per Google search.
An * indicates an item of my own creation.
Cactus = Voltfruit (Electro), *Prickly Peaches (Chilly & Hydrating), *Desert Aloe (Chilly & Recovery), *Boltshield Houseleek (Lightningproof) & *Sàbaar Fruit (Recovery), Mother of Millions (Erogenous 3) - Sàbaar Fruit grow from Sàbaar, which are essentially Agave Cacti.
Date Palm = N/A.
Tomatoes = Hylian Tomatoes (Hydrating).
Corn = *Zonai Corn (Mighty).
Eggplants = N/A.
Sweet Potatoes = *Shadow Yam (Dark/Warding). - A sweet potato that likes dark spaces such as caves & wells. Originates from the Surface, but grows well in the Depths too.
Cucumbers = *Freshwater Cucumber (Rapid & Hydrating). - Has to be grown in water.
Onions = Stambulb (Energizing). - Note that I treat Stambulbs like both onions & garlic.
Pumpkins = Fortified Pumpkins (Tough), Sunkins (Sunny), & *Ordon Pumpkins (Enduring). - In fact, given the fact that Sun Pumpkins seem to thrive by soaking in sunlight, they might just be more suited to the desert than Hateno.
Beans = *Zonai Cocoagranos (Spicy & Amorous), *Zonai Cofégranos (Energizing), *Pyre Beans (Scorching), *Sheikah Edadaizu (Sneaky), *Kakariko Adzuki, Leaping Limas (Puissant), & *Càrïtàn Beans (Toxic). - Càrïtàn Beans are essentially Hyrulean Castor Beans. Not for consumption. Used more for bathing products while the leaves are fed to Everlost Silkworks (Glow) to produce silk. Sheikah Edadaizu act as both regular soybeans & edamame beans. Though, whether or not Sheikah Edadaizu or Kakariko Adzuki will be allowed to grow there is up for debate.
Carrots = Swift Carrots (Hasty) & Endura Carrots (Enduring). - While the Swift Carrot description says that they are exclusively a Kakariko crop, the Endura Carrot has no such distinction &, in fact, there is a Satori Tree in the Gerudo Canyon, meaning that they have ready access to a source of Endura Carrots as you can always find one growing beneath said trees. It'd be fairly easy to transfer one into the desert & attempt to grow it there. Though it likely would have very high yields.
Radishes = Hearty Radishes (Hearty) & Big Hearty Radishes (Hearty). - Obviously not easy to find, but could be worth the investment.
Lettuce = N/A.
Cabbages = *Water Cabbage (Gills & Hydrating). - Has to be grown in water.
Wheat = Tabantha Wheat. - In my hc, Highland Gerudo already grow Tabantha Wheat, so the Desert Gerudo should have ready access to it.
Squash = N/A.
Figs = *Amorous Figs (Amorous).
Spinach = N/A.
Sweet Peppers = *Bayou Bellpepper. - Has to be grown in fresh water.
Grapes = *Bloodberry Grapes (Chilly/Icy).
Watermelons = Hydromelon (Hydrating).
Pomegranates = Stamegranate (Vitality & Amorous). - Inspired by the Stamina Fruit of SS.
Spices/Herbs = *Wave Saffron (Gills), *Hoy Mustard Greens & Seeds (Spicy), *Sand Cistanche (Vitality & Amorous 3), Gleam Ginger (Sunny).
Flowers = *Starlight Rosemary (Glow), *Rainfall Pansy (Hydrating), *Jànnùlitza flowers (Aerodynamic), *Frostbane Blossoms (Spicy), *Moonblooming Argus (Dawning/Dusky). - Frostbane Blossoms grow from the same bush as Wildberries. And Moonblooming Arguses grow from Voltfruit Cacti at night.
---
Then, add to that the other crops & plants that canonically grow there such as Palm Fruit, Warm & Electric Safflinas (Spicy/Electro), Zapshrooms (Electro), Spicy Peppers (Spicy), Wildberries, Dazzlefruit, & Shock Fruit (Charged/Stormy), & Sundelion (Sunny).
And while these ones don't grow in the desert itself, they do grow in the Gerudo Canyon, thus they are a nearby enough resource to be exploited.
Fire Fruit (Scorching), Ice Fruit (Biting), Splash Fruit (Rapid & Hydrating), Sunshroom (Spicy), Swift Violet (Hasty), Endura Carrot (Enduring), ect.
Plus these other ones of my own creation.
Berry = *Brushberry (Sanddrift & Hydrating). - An evolution of the Wildberry having adapted to the desert.
Mangosteen = *Desert Queen (Chilly).
Pineapple = *Faron Pineapple (Spicy & Hydrating). - Originally from the Faron Jungle, but grows exceptionally well in oases.
Sorrel = *Cavern Sorrel (Dark/Warding). - Grows well in caves & wells, so as long as it has ready access to water, there should be no issue.
Cave Mushrooms = Brightcaps (Glow), Hearty Truffle (Hearty), & Big Hearty Truffle (Hearty). - Same as the Cavern Sorrel.
Farrow = *Arrōyorice (Sanddrift).
Keep in mind that the Gerudo of BotW & TotK seem to have ready access to what appears to be an infinite supply of running water.
---
Then, add to that, the discovery of the straw grid planting method & you have a recipe for de-desertification.
And for all the non-canon ingredients, go to New Ingredient Ideas: Flora & Fungi.

Horridculture - Pilferage
Cuttings could have been taken more neatly than this. Aeonium arboreum, tree houseleek and a few other succulents within my tiny downtown garden are very important to me. They are from the former garden of a friend who passed away years ago. They have performed very well for this particular application since their arrival. They are resilient and undemanding, and provide delightful foliar color…

My Cactus Garden
Front yard overview | back yard overview
Last year, I planted winter hardy cactus in my front yard. My neighbors thought I was stupid (I live in USDA zone 5). They didn't know winter hardy cactus existed. Well, it does and it thrived and it made it through the winter. Admittedly our winter was not that bad this year. But there was lots of flooding and I was far more worried about over-watering than the cold. So, in my mind, the cactus all survived one of the worst scenarios my area could've thrown at it.
Which meant it was time to make the cactus garden more permanent. I tossed in a ton of pea gravel and made a little rock garden.
I bought a bunch more, fancier varieties, of sedum and stonecrop. I also bought a couple other (winter hardy) arid plants and put them in to fill out the spaces between my cactus.
Behold: My first adventure into xeriscaping. Yes, I need to mix the gravel. I am lazy and haven't done that yet.
This last photo is the from from the inside of my house. It shows the back of the cactus & sedum garden.
The boulders in the garden are actually large flat-ish rocks I pulled from the back yard and placed around cement blocks. In the one closest to the window, I did not cover the back because I planted creeping phlox inside the block. There's another one of these setups to the right off-camera.
I also have 3 tiered pots. The highest has an iris, 2nd highest is nepeta, lowest is rubrum (there's a 2nd rubrum plot hidden by the highest pot as well).
Most of the cactus are prickly pear. But there's also joshua tree, claret cup, and snow leopard.
There are several varieties of sedum, and probably some stonecrop. I also have a few Heather, beard tongue, and hens & chicks (houseleek?).
In the middle of this photo is a large dish that I added as an afterthought for a bird bath. I put in a solar fountain. It has only been out for 2 days but this ended up being a HUGE HIT with the birds.
My ACTUAL bird bath in the back yard (on a pedestal) is either being ignored or hasn't been found yet. Meanwhile, just today there are several birds using the one in the front, and even fighting over it!
In this photo (which has the quality of a potato, I'm sorry) there are 4 different birds all trying to use the bath.
I honestly did not expect anything to become of this bath and half expected to let it dry up from laziness.
But with the front window open, I can HEAR the birds bathing in it, and that reminds me to fill it, and now this is actually entertaining to watch the birds so I'm thinking of adding a 2nd, and maybe even 3rd dish/bird bath to help fill out the xeriscape.

we've been meaning to make an intro post for a while so here we got.
we're the Ant System, a DID system from the UK, and back in 2021 we were gifted a bunch of plants which led to us growing even more plants, so we made a blog for it.
some plants belong to the system as a whole and others belong to specific alters, with the general rule being that whoever planted/propagated a plant now owns it unless they choose to give it to someone else.
here's a list of all the plants so far and who they belong to:
whole system - planter 1, planter 2, crassula ovata, watch chain plant, coriander attempt 1, cucamelon attempt 1, lemon tree, pansies, pitcher plant, haworthiopsis limifolia
🦋 - haworthia cooperi, haworthia cooperi prop 1, haworthia cooperi prop 2
M - haworthia prop 1, haworthia prop 2
🍬 - cobweb houseleek, solanum uporo, ranunculus attempt 1, roses
Mellea - physalis, the mushroom orb, lavender attempt 1
Daniel - jellybean props, crassula prop 1
D - polka dot seedlings attempt 1

"The Ultimate Guide to Aeonium Arboreum: Everything You Need to Know About this Stunning Succulent"
Introduction:
Aeonium arboreum, commonly known as tree aeonium or houseleek tree, is a unique and striking succulent plant that belongs to the Crassulaceae family. Native to the Canary Islands, this plant has gained popularity among gardeners and succulent enthusiasts for its unique rosette-shaped leaves and woody stem. In this comprehensive guide, we will discuss the origins, varieties, propagation, care, and maintenance of Aeonium arboreum.
Origins of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum is native to the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa. It thrives in warm and mild climates and can be found growing in rocky areas or on cliffs. In its natural habitat, this plant can grow up to 10 feet tall and produces yellow flowers in the spring.
Varieties of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum comes in several varieties, each with its unique characteristics. The most popular varieties include:
Aeonium arboreum 'Atropurpureum': This variety has dark purple leaves that turn green in strong sunlight. It is one of the most popular varieties and adds a dramatic touch to any garden or indoor space.
Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop': This variety has almost black leaves that form a striking contrast with its yellow flowers. It is a stunning plant that can add a unique touch to any garden or landscape.
Aeonium arboreum 'Variegatum': This variety has green and cream-colored leaves that are marbled with white. It is a rare and sought-after variety that can add a unique touch to any collection.
Propagation of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum can be propagated through stem cuttings or seeds. Stem cuttings are the most common method and are taken from the stem of a mature plant. The cuttings should be allowed to dry for a few days to form a callus before being planted in well-draining soil. Seeds can also be used, but they require more time and attention to grow.
Care of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum is relatively easy to care for and does well in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. It requires occasional watering and prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Overwatering can cause root rot and other issues, so it's essential to allow the soil to dry out between waterings. This plant does not require frequent fertilization but can benefit from occasional feedings during the growing season. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer that is high in phosphorus and potassium can be used every two to four weeks. Be sure to dilute the fertilizer to half strength to prevent over-fertilization.
Maintenance of Aeonium Arboreum: Aeonium arboreum does not require extensive pruning, but it can benefit from the removal of dead or damaged leaves or stems. Pruning can also help maintain the shape and size of the plant. Regular maintenance includes checking for pests such as mealybugs or spider mites, which can be treated with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Aeonium - Tree Houseleek
Aeonium is the name given to a genus of plants that are native to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, Madeira and parts of northern Africa. This means that on the whole, they prefer a mild, dry climate. All of the species grow as colorful rosettes of thick, waxy leaves. Some are tall while Aeonium tabuliforme and Aeonium smithii remain compact. As for color, the leaves come in medium green, light green, variegated with white, cream, creamy yellow, bronze purple or dark purple. (photo by D.Scott Lee)
