A proper coming-of-age story involves the child discovering their own identity outside of their family structure, but it only resolves when the child takes responsibility for other people. A child is (or should be) taken care of by others, but an adult takes care of other people. Stories go wrong when they focus on the first step and forget the second step.

May I present, twenty-something-year-old Pirate Captain Jim Hawkins:

Along with some close-ups and fun facts, of course, the latter of which will be under the cut ^-^

The cross necklace is actually a small reference to a real pirate, who lived during the golden age of piracy! Bartholomew Roberts was known to wear a diamond-encrusted gold cross around his neck ^-^

The moon pendant is, - surprise surprise - a reference to Montressor Spaceport :] (and the diamond of course represents Montressor itself)

I've also given him a blue long coat, party because blue actually was one of the colours that commonly appeared in pirate attire, but also as a little homage to Captain Amelia, since that felt like a very in-character thing for Jim to do. The red details in his get-up aren't there for no reason, either, as he wears them in memory of Mr. Arrow

This doodle was so incredibly fun to make, and there weren't really any major hiccups anywhere along the way!

I'm most happy with his face and the red sash around his waist. I'm extremely satisfied with how the lighting ended up making it look like a very luxurious fabric, just like I wanted it to :]

What is that weird cluster of glowing orbs, you ask? I have no idea lmfao

His love language is words of affirmation

He cannot function w/o you telling him that you love him and he's very important to you. However if you forget to give him his daily affirmations, he's not gonna be mad, I think he'll be even more affectionate, and try to get it out of you. He'll probably be more clingy and not leave your side until you say something that reassures him that you still love him

THIS THING. TOOK ME NINE ENTIRE MONTHS TO FINISH. i redid the spider-verse one no less than three separate times and replaced a couple other styles along the way as well this thing drove me absolutely insane and it's finally DONE
