pov: travis calls you as he‘s having a panic attack and something unexpected happens.

The relentless buzz of your phone shattered the night's uneasy calm. Nestled in your cluttered apartment, the dim light from a single lamp barely touched the walls adorned with half-finished canvases and scattered paint tubes. you rubbed your eyes, your heart racing as the caller ID blinked, showing Travis's name. you had seen that name on his phone only a handful of times in recent months, each one a reminder of a friendship strained by distance and travis‘ inner demons.

your hand trembled as you answered, “Travis?”

“hey..“ The panic in Travis's voice was unmistakable, a shrill edge cutting through the static. “You need to come over. I—I can't see straight. I don't know what's real anymore.”

your pulse quickened. “What's happening? Are you okay?”

“It's not okay. I think... I think I'm seeing things again. Voices... they're telling me I'm a bad person. Please, just come.”

The line went dead before you could respond. The silence that followed was filled with a pressing urgency. you shoved your feet into old sneakers, grabbed your jacket, and bolted out of your apartment. The streets were a blur of rain and neon as you raced towards Travis's house. The chill in the air cut through you, mirroring the anxiety that gnawed at your insides.

When you reached Travis's modest, dimly lit house, you pounded on the door, your breath misting in the cold night air. The door creaked open, revealing a disheveled Travis. His normally calm demeanor was shattered, eyes wild and red-rimmed. He looked like he hadn't slept in days, his hair sticking out in every direction, his clothes rumpled.

“hello..,” Travis said, voice cracking. He pulled you inside and shut the door behind you, as though afraid the world outside might intrude even further.

you took in the scene before him: the living room was in disarray, furniture overturned, and a lamp lay shattered on the floor. Travis's eyes darted around the room as if searching for something unseen, his breathing ragged.

“I-I can't get rid of them,” Travis stammered, clutching his head. “They keep saying I'm not good enough. I'm so tired. I don't know what's real anymore.”

you stepped closer, trying to suppress your own anxiety. you placed a calming hand on Travis's shoulder. “You're not alone in this. I'm here, okay? Just focus on me.”

“Listen to me, Travis. The voices-they're not real. They're a part of the illness, not who you are. You've been through this before, and you've come out stronger. I'm here to help you through this. We'll get through it together."

Travis's eyes welled with tears as he stared at you. His face crumpled, the dam breaking. “I don't deserve your kindness,” he said, voice breaking. “Not after everything.”

you shook your head. “You don't have to deserve it. You're my friend. I care about you, no matter what.”

The room fell silent except for the soft patter of rain against the window. you could see the turmoil in Travis's eyes slowly fading, replaced by a fragile trust. you reached out, gently brushing a tear from Travis's cheek.

Without warning, Travis leaned forward, his lips meeting yours in a hesitant, desperate kiss. you were taken aback, but your own need to comfort and connect with your best friend pulled you into the moment. The kiss was fleeting, but it held an intensity of unspoken emotions and shared pain.

When you finally pulled apart, you looked into Travis's eyes and saw a mix of confusion ,and relief. “I didn't mean to—”

you placed a finger over Travis's lips. Let's just be here for each other right now.”

you sat together in silence, the weight of the night's events pressing heavily on you. you could feel the warmth of Travis's presence, a small comfort amidst the chaos. As the rain continued to fall outside, you knew that tonight was only the beginning of a long journey. But for now, in this small moment of solace, you had each other.
