Thailand: The land of a bajillion temples as we liked to call it. Mostly because we visiting at least two temples a day. I thought Thailand was gorgeous but also didn’t think it lived up to the hype (unpopular opinion I know). I’m thankful to be married to someone who loves to travel as much as me! Instead of a super fancy wedding with a wedding planner, we planned a lot of it ourselves and had a more basic (but still amazing) wedding. Instead, we used that money to go on an amazing honeymoon!!! We spent two and a half weeks and went from Hong Kong to Singapore. . . . In Vietnam we stopped in Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City. We loved wandering the streets of Ho Chi Minh and eating tons of Pho. Da Nang was also cool for me because it’s where my dad was stationed during the Vietnam war! China was such an interesting and unique country to visit. It was a country of many firsts and accomplishments for me. I had always wanted to visit the Great Wall ever since I learned about it in 6th grade. I finished visiting the Disney Parks around the world (all 6 Disney parks) in China with Shanghai Disney being my last! As I’ve traveled the world it has opened my eyes to new cultures and ways of life. Not only has it made me more thankful for my upbringing, but also my ability to be able to have these experiences. In Peru I got the opportunity to visit a local school and bring them supplies. The school had one classroom, a playground, and a couple other smaller rooms. My school compared to it would be a mansion. Yet the kids were so excited for us to be there and to learn. One of my favorite things to do in Central and South American countries is to hire a local guide to take me around. I find I get a more personal experience this way and also get to go wherever I want. The guides usually know some cool random places to stop as well! In Guatemala we went on a group tour with a local guide and got to see so much of Antigua. I loved hearing her stories and learning about the area, especially about the Mayan history. Croatia is a country I would LOVE to go back and explore more of. I liked Dubrovnik but I feel like other parts of the country would be even prettier (at least from the pictures I have seen)! I’ve never seen Game of Thrones, but apparently Dubrovnik was a huge filming location for the show and there are a ton of tours you can go on to see the filming locations. It was also used in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. If you can only do one thing in Dubrovnik though, make sure to walk the city walls! Montenegro was another country that surprised me and I did not know much about before visiting. I feel like most of my 2014 Europe trips was full of surprise countries! 😂 • Montenegro is a small Balkan country with fantastic scenery. We visited Kotor, a fortified coastal town. In Kotor one of the most popular things to do is hike up 1355 steps to the Kotor Fortress. Although it is quite a trek and we had not planned on it, the hike was so worth it for the amazing views! My 30th country was Albania. I knew hardly anything about this cute tiny country before visiting it. We spent some time in Saranda, a small coastal town. Saranda gets over 300 days of sun a year so it’s a great place to hit the beach. However, me being the history nerd that I am opted to visit the ancient Greek and Roman city of Butrint. At this UNESCO site, visitors can wander the ruins of this city and marvel at the history. Did you know that there are Greek and Roman ruins in Turkey? I feel like you see a lot of posts about Istanbul and Cappadocia, but there are some other really awesome spots to explore in a Turkey such as Ephesus. • Ephesus began during the Greek times and flourished later on after the Romans took over. It contains one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, the Temple of Artemis, and the Library of Celsus, one of the only remaining examples of a Roman Library. • When I graduated with my masters degree, my mom and I went on 6 week trip throughout Europe. Sweden is a country that I would love to go back and explore more of! I had the best time when I visited Stockholm minus the fact I ended up getting a fever at the end of the day. When we visited, we started the morning by visiting Drottningholm Palace, the summer home of the Swedish Monarch. This place was seriously gorgeous inside and out and was one of my favorite stops. Of course there are a ton of things to do in Stockholm in a day. A few of my other favorites included: ✨Vasa Museum: A museum that displays a mostly fully intact warship from the 1600s that sand on its maiden voyage. ✨Royal Palace: The residence of the Swedish Monarch. ✨Hop on Hop off Boat: Stockholm stretches across 14 islands so the hop on/hop off boat makes it easy to get around (and you get a scenic cruise too)! Next time I’d like to visit the ABBA Museum and the decorated metro stations. Anyone ever visited an ice bar before? When I went to Finland I got the opportunity to visit an ice bar and it was the coolest experience. They gave us snow suits to wear. Inside the bar they gave you a shot in an ice shot glass. There were also several fun snow activities to try out like tubing and sledding. Russia is a country with such an interesting history. It is the largest country in the world and spans across 11 time zones. • Did you know the second largest art museum in the world is the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia? It was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great. The complex contains 5 public buildings and over 3 million pieces of art! • I visited Russia on my big Europe trip after I graduated college and it was a very eye opening experience for me. When I graduated college, my mom and I went on a 6 week long Northern Europe trip. We went all over Scandinavia, part of the Baltics, and Ireland. It was amazing trip and we discovered some super cool places like Tallinn, Estonia. • Tallinn officially became a city in 1248. Present day it’s a super popular place for start ups and tech companies. When I was there they had WiFi in the middle of the city (which was a big deal in those days). Switzerland is one of the most expensive country in the world. Last time I was there I paid $10 for a happy meal at McDonalds. Nevertheless, Switzerland is a beautiful country and totally worth visiting. I’ve only gotten to explore two cities in Switzerland since it does not easily fit into the budget. While on that trip I met another girl who had also just graduated high school and was in Europe for the first time as well. We immediately bonded and became friends throughout that 30 day trip.
