This year I got to travel and tour in 5 African countries back to back.
Being in South Africa, Uganda, Ghana, Cote d’ivoire and Senegal back to back really did something inside me.
It broadened my mind and consciousness.
It inspired me to record music inspired by that trip. Some of it on this project, there’s more to come:

Each year thousands of migrants make the journey from Western Africa to the Canary Islands
More than 30 migrants may have drowned after their boat sank in the Atlantic Ocean off the Canary Islands, two charities have said.
Walking Borders and Alarm Phone said the boat was carrying around 60 people.
Spanish authorities said rescue workers found the bodies of a minor and a man, and rescued 24 other people - but did not know how many people were onboard.
The incident places fresh scrutiny on Europe's response to migration, after a boat sank off Greece last week.
Helena Maleno Garzon, from Walking Borders, said that 39 people had drowned, including four women and a baby, while Alarm Phone said 35 people were missing. Both organisations monitor migrant boats and receive calls from people on board or their relatives.
The boat sank about 100 miles (160km) south-east of Gran Canaria on Wednesday.
"It's torture to have 60 people, including six women and a baby, waiting for more than 12 hours for a rescue in a flimsy inflatable boat that can sink," Ms Garzon said.
A Spanish rescue service ship, the Guardamar Caliope, was only about an hour's sail from the dinghy on Tuesday evening, Reuters reported, citing Spanish state news agency EFE.
The ship did not aid the dinghy because the operation had been taken over by Moroccan officials, which dispatched a patrol boat that arrived on Wednesday morning, 10 hours after it had been spotted by a Spanish rescue plane, Reuters reports.
The BBC has sent a request for comment to Morocco's interior ministry.
Angel Victor Torres, leader of the Canary Islands region, described the incident as a "tragedy" and called on the European Union to establish a migration policy that "offers coordinated and supportive responses" to the issue of migration.
Although off Africa's western coast, the Canary Islands are part of Spain, and many migrants travel from Africa to the archipelago in the hope of reaching mainland Europe.
The Western Africa-Atlantic migration route is considered one of the world's deadliest, and at least 543 migrants died or went missing on that journey in 2022, according to the UN's International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
IOM said there were 45 shipwrecks on the route during that period, but acknowledged the figure is "probably underestimated" because data is scarce and incomplete.
Most of those making the journey are from Morocco, Mali, Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire and other parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, it said.
Separately, Spanish authorities also rescued more than 160 people from three other boats near the islands of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria overnight on Wednesday and Thursday morning.
The news comes after a migrant boat carrying hundreds of people sank off the Greek coast last week, with at least 78 known to have died, although many more are feared to have drowned.
The UN's human rights office says that up to 500 people are still missing, and the BBC has obtained evidence casting doubt on the Greek coastguard's account of what happened. The coastguard claims that the boat was on a course to Italy and not in need of rescue.

I've said this before, but on the day that Mark Eue showed up in the advisors club, there was no one around but a couple old men. behind the counter there was one man, Lewie, disconnected and drifting in and out. hey man, can I help you with anything? mark wanted a cocktail or something. lewie said the advisors would be down to talk with him in a while. well, anyway. he pulled out his rucksack and pulled out his thermometer. hot? asked lewie. nah, said mark. his thermometer used mercury, bad for your health. lewie gave him his cocktail, and he poured the mercury in. he heard the advisors talking up stairs. another man came up to them, jameie, sixty or seventy. he and mark sipped on the cocktail and talked. well, what do you know, he knew mark's sister. ewe was her name, they were long time friends. did business together but had never so much as talked except a few greetings in the office. jamaie was related to tukie, his kid brother from calambo. started telling a story about tukie back in his navy days, what he did on ships, where the navy sent him and where he came from. real exciting stuff. apparently tukie and his commanding officer pippey got into some real situations. coming back from bermuda after the war, pippey's ship was hit by a storm and drowned. tukie was his second in command captained the life boat. well they sailed due east heading for the african atlantic coast, and about six or seven days into the journey, tukie's navigator lefeie spotted something on the horizon. it was a snake, a sea snake. mark wanted to hear more. fifty feet long, coming right at them. like a jet ski, tukie said. well lefeie pull out his navy gun and gave it a whack, downed the thing in one blow. sad to see but it was self defense. sank to the bottom and they made it to cote d'ivoire intact. now pippeie said that when they got there, they met a french traveler named gerome. gerome was not the kind of guy you wanted to mess with, inquisitive. he was on a journey up this way because his ex wife had sent him, asked him to get her something. well, that's what pippeie said. gerome told pippeie how to make his favorite receipe, smoked salmon. mix in the lemon, herbs, and so on, smoke and bake till it's ready. mark wasn't sure how to cook, but he wasn't rude about it. pippeie's smoked salmon was legendary.

Analyzing Trends and Opportunities in the Cocoa Market: A Comprehensive Overview
The Cocoa market will grow at highest pace owing to increasing demand from emerging economies like India and China. Cocoa is derived from the cacao tree and primarily used to produce chocolate and cocoa powder. It finds widespread application in the food & beverage industry for producing products like chocolate, candy, drinks, and bakery items. Cocoa has high nutritional value and contains minerals, vitamins, fiber, flavonoids, and antioxidants that offer several health benefits. As a result, demand for cocoa and cocoa-based products is on the rise globally. The global cocoa market is estimated to be valued at US$ 11,499.6 Mn in 2024 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 3.4% over the forecast period 2023 to 2030. Key Takeaways Key players operating in the cocoa market are The Barry Callebaut Group, The Hershey Company, Nestlé S.A., Cargill Incorporated, Puratos Group, Cémoi, Mars, Incorporated, Blommer Chocolate Company, Meiji Holdings Company, Ltd., Carlyle Cocoa, Jindal Cocoa, and United Cocoa Processor. These players are focusing on geographical expansion, product innovation, and mergers & acquisitions to gain a competitive edge in the market. The demand for cocoa is increasing significantly owing to rising consumption of chocolates and bakery items globally. Growing health awareness has also boosted demand for cocoa-based products due to associated health benefits. Moreover, changing lifestyles, inflating incomes, and westernization are fueling the growth of cocoa consumption in emerging economies. Technological advancements in cocoa processing such as innovative roasting and grinding techniques have improved the quality and efficiency of cocoa production. Advanced crop protection solutions and high-yielding cocoa varieties introduced by key players are also supporting market growth. Market Opportunities - Emerging Economies: Emerging countries like India, China, Brazil, and Indonesia offer lucrative opportunities for cocoa market players owing to growing middle-class population, improving living standards, and shifting dietary preferences in these regions. - E-Commerce Platforms: Online retail platforms provide an efficient channel for companies to promote and sell a variety of cocoa and chocolate products to consumers. Growing internet and smartphone penetration globally will aid the cocoa-based product sales through e-commerce retailers. Impact of COVID-19 on Cocoa Market Growth The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the growth of the global cocoa market. The strict lockdowns imposed by governments around the world led to severe disruptions in production and supply chains. Farmers faced difficulties in harvesting and processing cocoa beans due to travel restrictions and shortage of labor. Cocoa production fell significantly in major producing countries like Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana. On the demand side, the sharp decline in economic activities impacted the demand for cocoa and related products from industrial as well as retail consumers. Hotels, restaurants and cafe business came to a standstill affecting the foodservice demand for cocoa. The cocoa price crashed to a three-year low level in 2020.

NYFW FW24:
I think this is slowly becoming my favourite Fashion Week - away from the hype and conglomerate madness, it's about the weird, the experimental.
INTERVENTION: Mall of Anonymous (Berlin btw) by Shayne Oliver featuring Anonymous Club, Olly Shinder `refucked by NOVACAINE,´ a selection of Hood By Air ‘MUSEUM’ archive pieces and Gerrit Jacob. Presented by Reference Studios as part of Berlin Fashion Week, set design by Tor Studio.
Sandy Liang - 10th year anniversary of the brand - it's about going from girlhood to womanhood
Helmut Lang - again Peter creates another collection about the immigrant experience - the Ghana Must Go prints, the bubble wrap texture, the body as a travelling vessel - protect and project
Collina Strada - titled "STRONGER" - pushing back against maybe weaker depictions of women

About the self - some text from their show notes
"YOU ARE A LOGO

Things to look forward to culturally?

youtube
Museum as performance space - gaining legitimacy in one of a kind performances in a unique setting. I guess similar to what the ICA are doing but they're getting the good stuff in terms of curation.
I think that alongside the high costs of everything, the audience that artists have to deal with today are much more either segregated class-wise or not used to seeing continuous art and being able to evaluate it/ seeing it as a "little treat". (see for example: The TikTok kids who saw Steve Lacy or Mitski's current tour) For example, think of any major exhibition today in the UK and the cost of tickets usually range between £16-20 esp London. Meaning people usually see the extremely popular things that have been tried and tested and the more experimental/local/DIY things are left behind. It also means that the general public's tolerance for maybe I'd say the "Avant Garde" has decreased over the past 10 years. If TV is the most accessible medium, think about what's on regular tv sans Netflix (which is already extremely sanitised)...there's this extreme lack of maybe kooky music/culture programming that explores and interviews artists of the day in an accessible way or just regular toned programming which allows people to know about each other (See Raven's Row exhibition from last year?)
Things coming up this year:

The History Super eagle of Nigeria
Nigeria played its first formal game in October 1949, while still a British territory, after competing in unofficial matches against other city states during the 1930s. Before their upcoming matches in England, the Nigerian Super Eagles played exhibition matches against working-class teams such as Bromley, Bishop Auckland, and South Liverpool. The team's first notable achievement was winning gold at the Second All-Africa Games. This was followed by third-place finishes at the African Cup of Nations in 1976 and 1978.
In 1980, Christian Chukwu's team, led by players such as Segun Odegbami and Best Ogedegbe, won the Cup for the first time in Lagos. The Nigerian Olympic men's football team won the football competition at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, defeating Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. In a rematch of the 1996 competition, they finished second in a competition similar to this one at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, falling to Argentina.
