Day # 26 Willy T. Ribbs  is a legendary American race car driver from San Jose,California. Ribbs is the first Black race car driver to qualify for Indianapolis 500 as well as the first to drive a Formula One car. Referred to as the Jackie Robinson of car racing, Ribbs integrated the all white sport, against alot of opposition. Ribbs did it by destroying the competition, race by race. He was often referred to as "Uppity" because of his confident, bold and charming demeanor. He figured "your gonna have to beat me, if you want to kick me out of racing, racing is the best thing next to heaven" Ribbs was called racial slurs, recieved death threats and his race car was often times vandalized and engine sabotaged. With all this, Ribbs still made it out victorious, going on to compete in many forms of auto racing, like the Trans-Am Series, IndyCar, Champ Car, IMSA, the NASCAR Cup Series and Gander Outdoors Truck Series. Ribbs at one time was the overall top money earner in SCAA series history. Mike Cope Racing Team Takes Win at Sebring, Homestead Bound

MCRE looking to make it two for two as they head south to Homestead

Clearwater, FL (March 30, 2017)—After capturing the win and securing one top five and 2 top 10 finishes in the Trans Am Series TA2 season opener at Sebring International Raceway, the Mike Cope Racing Enterprises (MCRE) Arrive and Drive Program heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway with high hopes to capture the podium.

The MCRE Arrive and Drive six car team rolled off the trucks at Sebring for the TA2 event with winning in mind. Dillon Machavern, in the No. 24 Heritage Motorsports Ford Mustang, started his weekend from the pole position and never looked back. He lead all 24 laps to capture his fourth Trans-AM Series TA2 victory.

“The car was hooked up all weekend; we made really minimal changes,” said Machavern. “I really have to thank the Mike Cope crew for giving me an awesome car and my parents for giving me the great opportunity to come out here and run.”

Tony Buffomante, in the No. 34 BestLine Superior Lubricants Ford Mustang, is back under the MCRE tent for the third full season. Qualifying at P4, Tony worked his way to what looked to be a podium finish, but a late race scoring mishap put him in 7th place on the final restart. A hard charge on the part of Buffomante in the remaining laps, helped him secure a P5 finish.

New under the tent this season for MCRE is L.P Montour, in the No. 13 Montour Ltd Chevrolet Camaro. Montour brings great speed and promise to the Arrive and Drive Program. His skill behind the wheel will prove to be a powerful addition to the team. Qualifying in the 6th position for Round 1 at Sebring, Montour drove a consistent race and brought the car home in P6.

Lawrence Loshak, in the No. 5 Pennzoil Chevrolet Camaro, is a familiar face under the MCRE tent. The TA2 Camaro performed and looked spectacular all weekend. Loshak started the season off with a 7th place qualifying run.  Luck was on his side through the race as he avoided a mid -race incident that collected one of his teammates. Loshak rounded out the day with a P9 finish, and while he may be his biggest critic and consider this a rough start to 2017, the MCRE team is confident that the missed ground will be made up as we head to Homestead.

Matt Parent made his debut with Mike Cope Racing during the 2016, getting his feet wet in the seat of the No. 34 on a rental basis. In 2017, Parent has taken the leap to full time in the Trans-Am TA2 series behind the wheel of the No. 14 Mike Cope Racing Ford Mustang. Qualifying in the 23rd position, Matt made an impressive move through the field to finish his day in P12. Parent walks away from the Sebring with a spotless race car and confidence going into Homestead.

Rounding out the 6-car team for MCRE at Sebring, is Keith Prociuk in the No. 9 HP Tuners Chevrolet Camaro. Qualifying in the 10th position, Prociuk had a great car for the race. Steadily working his way to the front of the pack, a lap 18 accident would end his day. He avoided a spin in front of him; however, another car made rear contact with Prociuk leaving him an unfortunate victim of circumstance.

“We have high hopes for the 2017 Trans-AM TA2 season. Our tent is filled with at least 6 cars each race and overflowing with talent behind the wheel,” stated Travis Cope, Vice President of MCRE. “Coming away with a win at Sebring, 3 top 10’s and most our cars in one piece, I’d say it was a great weekend. At Mike Cope Race Cars, we aim to fill the podium every weekend. That is what we will continue to do every time we unload at the track. We have a group of guys who are capable of finishing in the top 10 every race and we look forward to proving that all year.”

The Trans-Am TA2 series head to Homestead-Miami Speedway April 6-9th. The MCRE Arrive and Drive Program will be there in full force with hopes of another dominating weekend. Tony Buffomante will take the weekend off; however, filling his spot will be rising NASCAR star Justin Haley. Haley will be coming straight off his 1st NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Martinsville Speedway. Along with Haley, the MCRE Arrive and Drive tent will be filled with the familiar faces of Dillon Machavern, Lawrence Loshak, Keith Prociuk, L.P Montour and Matt Parent, each looking to capture the weekends No. 1 spot on the podium.
