nico di angelo is trans masc and he has no idea what periods are before the age of 14

for starters maria di angelo is a super cool and super modern queen for the 40s. she canonically had two children with a greek god, lived more or less as a single mother in the eyes of society during the time of the christian italy of mussolini.

nico probably said he was trans when he was little and his mom probably just said "do you want me to cut your hair sweetie ?"

bianca accepted that easily too and everything was fine

but the story we know happened: maria dies then bianca and little nico finds himself lost in a future where he doesn't really know people

everyone thinks he's cisgender, surely teaches him the word trans in his life from a young homeless teenager (maybe even by our genderfluid green-haired prince•ss) and decides he won't tell anyone

he has no idea how it is in our time to be lgbt and still has the mentality of his original time in mind

nico is canonically skinny, has disastrous mental health and very physically active which delays his puberty. even when this happens his weight is too low to have his period

however after the end of the heroes of olympus he finds himself with a more stable life. he stops running around and completely neglecting his body because will forces him to take care of himself

one morning he wakes up with blood on his underwear and a stomach ache, he thinks he is going to die

he didn't tell anyone he was trans at this point but who realized it (will, hazel (?), reyna and coach helge AND hades who always knew) but no one did comment on this

so he panics, goes to camp jupiter without telling anyone to say goodbye to his two "sisters" (hazel and reyna)

since he is a drama king, he hugs hazel telling him that he was happy to know her in his miserable life before leaving without further explanation to see reyna

reyna don't swallow his shit/m, sit him down and ask him why the fuck he think he's gonna die

then follows a very long and very awkward conversation. nico feels very stupid for not just going to see will

reyna as a super big sister reassures him, explains to him what to do but mentally she is in mode: suzgsunsj'sbvsj

she wonders how this kid managed to survive so long alone-

everything ends well, however, he returns to camp half blood after having spent some time with his sisters (and having told hazel that in the end he was not going to die right away)

ps1/ english is not my first language and i'm pretty sure the spelling is a bit rough. normally i pay more attention to spelling but it's one in the morning where i live, i survive with a terrible sleep pattern and my brain is too tired for grammar

Carlo Maria Viganò, who used to be a far-right full-on MAGA Catholic archbishop, is now a far-right full-on MAGA former archbishop, having been excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church in July. Viganò has been one of the most frenzied right-wing critics of Pope Francis, who he called a “servant of Satan.” Viganò apparently intends to continue using his platform to rile up right-wing activists. Died stopping a super weapon from being fired stopping the Terrran Hegemony from committing intergalactic genocide. The reason they died stopping the super weapon is. The super weapon was going to be fired by the Terran hegemony/dominion/empire to commit intergalactic genocide to get a few star systems or a galaxy to surrender to them. They were sent to destroy it by a self-destruct button on a console deep inside the facility of the super weapon. The terran dominion/empire got wind of this and sent an agent to destroy it. Making them destroy it manually with a bomb. They died weaponizing the warhead and destroying the super weapon.  Died stopping the Galaxy Buster. 

When they died they were buried in a metal coffin to be shot out into space after a military funeral as a former super soldier.

One of their alien spouses and partners who can fly using solar radiation picks up the coffin after using a star fighter. She flies out to the star system (of her home giant planet) that has a few suns, several moons orbiting each planet, & many planets orbiting the suns. She puts the spacecraft on autopilot and sets a flight path around the orbits of the stars, moons, & planets. She puts them inside a power armor with a jetpack. She proceeds to take them out of the coffin and opens up the cargo bay. She then has them absorb solar radiation, lunar rays, & cosmic energy from her star system to revive him/her/them by inputting the orbit to the ai of their personal power armor suit. 

After absorbing all these rays, energy, & radiation they are revived but also dangerously supercharged from all the excess energy and radiation. Like a few hundred percent more than normal as a demigod and alien hybrid. They were like a mini star about to go supernova. Their hair, eyes, skin, hands, feet, & mouth were blazing with energy. Optic blasts from their eyes, breath blasts from their mouth, & energy blasts from their hands were radiating with power. The power armor suit was able to absorb some of the excess energy to overcharge the defense and offense abilities of the suit but not enough to absorb all of the excess energy. Thinking that an enemy force comes to fight them, seeing them, their alien spouse and partner, & knowing some parts of their alien hybrid ancestry as a result of being an enemy of their alien hybrid mothers people. And the revived demigod and alien hybrid proceeds to fight them to burn the rest of this energy.

Died from stopping a large meteorite from destroying a space frigate. Kanaloa Hawaiian God of the Underworld in some more modern reimaginings. He is a student of Milu. He revived him/her/them. He/she/they met him in a metaphysical trial since he is a god of the underworld. It was a trial of reflection since he asked him/her/them to be introspective in this trial.

Died fighting for the rebel army against them once they were freed by allies that the ship cruiser frigate corvette or battle cruiser they were on was shot by plasma or laser batteries or cannons that shot them out into space and they died from lack of oxygen. The power armor suit was locked by the AI and it wasn’t permanent death but it does count as they were clinically dead for several minutes. Also has consequences on them physically mentally and emotionally after since death shouldn’t be a simple thing even for a demigod and alien hybrid character. A dream-like trial occurs in the afterlife before they come back to life. Haumea, the Hawaiian goddess of birth, talks to them in the afterlife to help their rebirth.

They were killed by a behemoth created by adamantine, mithril, divine iron, heavenly bronze, stellar titanium, & celestial steel and other magical metals. A monster made sentient by arcane and esoteric aether and nether. It was created by demigods, deities, & titans. It was commanded by enemy gods and goddesses. The being was sent to destroy a  county by enemy gods and goddesses upon hearing their demigod existence. It was sent by the Norse as a rival pantheon. It was sent as a result of Odin, old king of the Norse gods, learning the relationship between the Asian Pasifika and Afro Latine Native demigod and alien hybrid and their Norse demigod partners. The partners being Aesir Ylva Helga Olafsdottir (Asgardian and Vanir hybrid demigod child of Skadi) and Josefine Yrsa Hansen (Norse demigod child of Freya). He/she/they sacrificed themselves by overloading their alien hybrid and demigod powers to destroy the monster to save a county in a colony of indigenous and citizens of color that were targeted when it was sent to find him/her/them. 

They were revived by being placed in a healing vat or regeneration tank full of blue, purple, & green liquids that healed them as an alien hybrid. The healing vat also had nanites that repaired, upgraded, & customized their cybernetic and bionic implants and enhancements.

They were slain by a spear with a blade made by the strongest metals in the omniverse that cut through the chest of their power armor. The power armor’s weak point was exposed by an explosive javelin coated with unknown substances that pierced the back of their power armor. The javelin was thrown from across the battlefield. After it pierced their armor it exploded. It was created by remnants of the earth government and Terran dominion regime. It was wielded by a leader of the Forces of Evil. 

When they were brought back to life, because of how they died, what happened to them when they were alive, what happened to them in the afterlife, & how they were brought back to life.

What happened to Angela has actually happened to cis guys. The German poet Rainer Maria Rilke was raised as a girl for the first years of his life, by a grieving mother who had miscarried the previous pregnancy.

My point was that the media landscape of horror films constantly invokes the male intruder on the feminine or the male "feminine" fake. These are really common tropes in horror, from Psycho onward. They parallel and reflect cultural anxieties around male crossdressers, Drag Queens and transfem people.

But whoever that lonely transfem was, someone like my mother lived in a world where disturbed mentally ill people are dangers and you can't be friends with someone like that without being at best in trouble, but possibly in danger.

That's besides the point though. I don't know the Sleepaway Camp fandom, I doubt it's a hive of transphobia, nor do I think that edgy horror that casts trans people as monsters is bad or made by or for transphobes (necessarily).

The point was about transfem people and their role in a wider cultural imagination. And I think I made my point fairly clear not while I briefly mentioned Sleepover Camp, but when I discussed "trans strippers".

I'm not saying there are no implications, that it had no societal effect, or that it wasn't the result of a transphobic society. My main point was just clarifying if it was not about trans people more than it was about crossdressers. It tars both.

Yes, re: my last post about Death Knights, Jaune became a Death Knight in V9. He's living out the same day over and over in a state of temporal oblivion after drinking the poison in an underworld analogue. The armour's fused to his skin as the Rusted Knight, his transformation in the volume leads to his white armour being purified again... it's all there. When he comes to see Alyx as a whole person and forgive her and himself his humanity is restored.

It's interesting as well because he gets his proper fairytale title through this to match Cinder, and both of their titles embody life and death, harvest and decay. It must be significant that they both got these titles which link them together which at first seem related to his corruption and her seeming total moral/social isolation but actually are consequently key to their respective redemptions.

I don't know if they knew they were invoking this subtle archetype specifically - chivalric knight corruption seems to be something so many writers stumble into, and it's Arthuriana all over - but it makes for a nice parallel with Cinder, because Cinder's symbolically undead too. She's more straightforwardly a Beast, more specifically a (Western) dragon with those talons, but she's also a Maiden and a queen. The dragon being turned back into a princess is a more straightforward transformation for her.

Of course, there's a couple of DNFs in there which inflate this number somewhat, but I am absolutely not going to pick through and count them out. Plus, a DNF only gets included on the list if I've gotten through a significant portion of the book. If it's a page one no-no, it's not even worth mentioning.

I made the decision at the start of this year, to try out more books I'd never heard of before. I really like trawling through the library app, or through audible's free archives and finding stuff that I'd probably never normally have discovered. Also, revisiting books that I read a long time ago and seeing if they resemble my memories of them.

Overall, I think this was a very satisfying year of reading, and I hope that I enjoy 2024's reads just as much!

An almost All-Mexican recast of The Princess And The Frog, starring:

Manolo Sanchez (The Book Of Life) in the role of Tiana, with Blue (Rio) as his transformed self. He wants to open a theater in honor of his mother. He’s also trans!!)

Maria Posada (The Book Of Life) in the role of Naveen, with Jewel (Rio) as her transformed self. She wants to live free no matter what the cost.  Joaquin Mondragon (The Book Of Life) in the role of Charlotte. He dreams of being a knight and wooing a fair damsel.

Carmen Sanchez (The Book of Life) in the role of James. She dreamed of owning her own theater, until cancer cut her life short.

General Posada (The Book of Life) in the role of Eli La Bouff. (he’s more of a dad towards Joaquin than Maria) He’s spent years trying to arrange a marriage between his daughter and adopted son.

Carlos Sanchez (The Book Of Life) in the role of Eudora. He respects Manolo trying to honor his mothers’ memory but wishes he would at least consider bullfighting as a fallback.  

Ernesto De La Cruz (Coco) in the role of Dr. Facilier. He’s a jungle spirit masquerading as human, and he’s deeply in dept to a certain Death Angel.   

Dead Eye (Chop Sockey Chooks) in the role of Lawrence. Half-forgotten villain from a half-forgotten cartoon; perfect pick. Whenever people wonder where Manolo is or why “Maria” is acting so strange, she hypnotizes them into thinking of something else. 

Ah Puach (Maya and the Three) in the role of Mama Odie. A sweet-natured witch who holds the secrets to life.

Hector (Coco) in the role of Ray. A friendly jungle spirit who helps the young lovers. He’s in love with a spirit named Imelda, who’s actually a constellation with the Evening Star at her “heart”.

Dante (Coco) in the role of Louis. In this version, his is a non-speaking role.

Looroo (Miraculous) in the role of Juju. He’s the butterfly familiar of Ah Puach. 

The story is a mix between TPATF and TBOL. The Three Amigos are best friends that go their separate ways at age 11. Joaquin goes to military school, Maria to Spanish boarding school, and Manolo stays in San Angel with his parents, raising money to convert the old bull-fighting ring into a theater. After ten years apart, the trio reunites at the beginning of Summer. But when the general complains about Maria not being “ladylike” enough, she storms off and meets a singing magician and his assistant. They offer to make her “Free as a bird” in exchange for some of her long hair. You can guess how that goes.

Meanwhile, Manolo hears the ring is scheduled to be torn down unless he can raise enough money to buy it. He finds Maria in bird form. She talks him into giving her a “magic love kiss” to cure her, but it just spreads the curse to him. Ernesto tries to catch them, but they fly away to the jungle.

In the jungle, they overhear some hunters talk about a witch queen that can grant wishes. So, they decide to seek her out. They’re helped first by magic xolo Dante, then by Dantes’ owner Hector. Along the way, they argue over responsibility verses passion with Manolo saying Maria is too capricious and Maria saying Manolo is too much of a people pleaser.

Back in town, Dead Eye impersonates Maria with a necklace made from her hair. People fawn over her, Joaquin proposes to her, Ernesto praises her. When the necklace gets damaged, Ernesto sends enchanted snakes to track down bird-Maria and get her feathers. They attack the group but are repelled by Ah Puach’s magic. Ah Puach tells the birds that the way to break this particular curse is to grant someone else's wish. Maria decides to grant Manolo’s wish by using her dowry money to buy him his theater. Manolo decides to grant his father’s wish by becoming a bullfighter.

The fly back to San Angel (carrying Hector) and separate. Maria is captured on her way to meet Joaquin. Hector meanwhile tells Manolo that while it’s good to put others first, he still needs to act on his own needs.  They hear a commotion and run to see Dante attack fake Maria. He tears off her new necklace, revealing her true form. In the resulting chaos, Hector finds the real Maria, Joaquin sees Manolo as a bird, Dead Eye runs away.  Manolo steals the charm Ernesto uses to appear human. Hector gets Maria to fly away before Ernesto attacks him with snakes. Ernesto then tries to get Manolo to make a deal with him, saying he can make all of his wishes come true. Manolo, guided by Carmens' spirit, says he doesn't want his wishes granted if it means stepping on other people. He then destroys the charm, and Ernesto is dragged away to Xibalba to face judgement.   The birds reunite and tell their loved ones what happened. Joaquin, Carlos, and even General Posada agree that they shouldn't do something they don't want to do just to please others. A dying Hector asks them to take care of Dante. Then he turns into a comet and flies away to Imelda. By taking in Dante, they grant Hectors' wish, and become human again. Joaquin proposes to both of them, and they split the cost of buying the theater.   And they all live happily ever after in Fantasy Mexico.
