Chuuya hates Dazai Osamu.

Is it a surprise, really? The bastard disappeared all of three weeks after Chuuya came out to him back in high school, was weird all the way up to it; it'd be odd if Chuuya didn't despise him.

And well, if Chuuya worries, fears for what might've taken his best friend, his partner from him, he'll never say. He won't admit he was, is weak for the smile that seemed to light up only for him, he won't admit he tosses at night imagining Dazai's body hanging, lifeless, from a tree branch somewhere where no one would find it, he won't admit he blames himself.

Of course, him being himself shouldn't have pushed Dazai over the edge, his joy shouldn't have- whatever. It's been six years. Chuuya doesn't care.

He doesn't, even if he's staring at a picture of a stranger, a smiling woman, that instagram suggested to him and yearns. The smile, the soft, cheeky yet somehow delicate smile, it's so much like Dazai, and her long, curly hazelnut hair is just like Dazai's, and the crease of her eyes, and the bandages-

Hold on. Chuuya checks the name of the account that posted the picture. Dazai Makoto, the name reads, a cute emoticon between the two words.

Dazai didn't have a sister.

With clammy hands, Chuuya goes to the account's page, and presses the 'message' button.

'Hello. I apologise if I'm mistaken, but is this the mackerel I lost all those years ago? Feel free to ignore this if the words mean nothing to you.'

Nothing. Turning off his phone, Chuuya takes a deep breath and goes back to doing his over-time paperwork.

He doesn't turn on his phone until next morning, when he sits in his kitchen, eating his rice omelette, and decides to scroll through social media.

His instagram has blown up with messages. Hands going clammy, he opens it, and most of the messages are from Dazai.

'chibi!' Is the first message. Chuuya can't help but snort, a weight he got so used to lifting of his shoulders. Dazai. His Dazai.

'i missed youuuu'

'i'm so sorry i haven't texted or anything! i ran from the country, haha'

'my name's makoto now!'

'i totally wasn't inspired by you, haha'

'i live in japan'

'i'm happier than ever!'

'do you... maybe wanna hang out?'

Wiping his eyes, Chuuya types out a quick 'I'd love to'.

They may have both changed, so much so they probably won't recognise each other, but at least they have a second chance.
