The build up is Jaune's trainbing and actually succeeding with Weiss up until

The punchline: Jaune fails and gets peed on by Zwei, something that he stopped in his training, and just accepts it.

AKA the punchline is Jaune's MISERY. Sympathizing with him RUINS the joke. The ONE joke catered to you people and it just zips over your head. Congrats, you fail comedy.

Vsevolod Pudovkin and North by Northwest

In Vsevolod Pudovkin’s “On Editing”, He speaks about five different editing techniques that impact how a spectator views a film: Contrast, parallelism, symbolism, simultaneity, and leitmotif. Pudovkin believed that editing was the most integral part of film, more important than the actors themselves. Through these five techniques, an editor can create reactions from the audience rather than merely showing a change in scenery. The most prominent example of one of these techniques is the end scene of “North by Northwest,” where the main characters are dangling off the face of Mount Rushmore. The mood is tense, and Kendall is barely hanging on to Thornhill. He asks her to grab his hand, and she reaches up and grasps it; Suddenly, the camera cuts to a shot of Thornhill lifting Kendall up to a trainbed safe and sound, calling her Mrs. Thornhill. This is a huge example of parallelism, where two related scenes are put together to denote the passage of time. We have two entirely different sequences, each one connected by the lifting of Kendall up to a higher point. Another point can be made for contrast, where we cut from a tense and death-defying cliff face to the relative safety of a bed.
