NO SERIOUSLY. I MISS THESE. WHAT THE FUCK. WHERE IS MY SECOND DISK OF SPECIAL FEATURES. MY DIRECTORS COMMENTARY. MY THEATRICAL TRAILERS?
if it weren't for special features on DVDs i *genuinely* would not be on the path I am now. Some Studio Ghibli disks have a special feature called "storyboard mode" where the original animatic of the animation is played instead of the finished movie. That's what inspired me to want to be an animator! That's what lit that fire! Kids today are LOSING that! Give us the DVDs back! Give us back Xtra-Vision and Blockbuster and video rental stores!
And you can't even rely on a streaming service for movies because they can be removed at any time. I have my own collection of DVDs because of this fact. I have films you can't get on streaming over here because of whatever the fuck reasons. I have six disks of tobey's spider-man films; 3 film features, 3 special features. I have A Silent Voice. School of Rock. I have Into The Spider-Verse with a director's commentary. I have the Care Bears movie from 1985! KEEP YOUR MEDIA PHYSICAL. That way it can't be taken away for bullshit reasons.
the death of dvds is so fucked. what about bonus features
#i know dvds are still being made and all but its mostly blu-rays and i dont have a blu-ray player#Look. DVDs are being erased. TVs dont have a disc slot. They have fewer hdmi and av points#My new laptop for school doesn't have a disc slot!#If you want to watch a dvd now there are extra steps this is what im saying#you need to buy a cable and buy a dvd player and THEN watch it#before you could stick a disc in damn near anything#and dvds are so much less...personable#they used to be bonus features- games#trailers and blooper reels and interviews and shorts and everything#directors commentaries and deleted scenes too#it used to have its own seperate disc! because it was so much it wouldnt fit alongside the movie on the disc!#now were lucky to get what#maybe the theatrical trailer#or an interview with some actors#the directors commentary is a lot harder to find than it was#and deleted scenes? forget it#i dont think ill ever see a disc with a storyboard feature again either. this is what we mean#theyre still being made sure. but not as mainstream#which makes it less convenient for a lot of people. plus the PRICES. my god#a dvd new is like MINIMUM £10. places like CEX keep a lot of discs behind counter#so you cant check for damage like scratches before buying it#and the rental placed are gone.#we used to bring dvds into school and vote on what one to watch. i dont think that happens anymore#the rise of streaming services has mostly erased the need for physical media#even thiugh the streaming services have far less content than video rentals stores did#and the content gets switched between serviceds regularly#and you need good wifi for it even.#there's no streaming service I can use to watch the step up movies#or to watch like... danny phantom#so dvds and ...*alternative*. streaming sites are where it is for me

Todays rip: 17/05/2024
Athletic Doctor
Season 1 Featured on: GilvaSunner's Highest Quality Video Game Rips: Volume 1 Also on: SiIvaGunner: Starter Kit & Essentials
Ripped by Psynwav

ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL!!
I haven't slept in so long...I forgot what dreams were like.
Honestly - what better way could there be for me to celebrate the 365th main post on the blog, than to be fashionably late by a whole weekend? It's unfortunate, but...oddly befitting, really. Back when I was first starting out with the blog, I actually forgot about posting daily for a solid two weeks - and so, some old-ass posts like Chillin’ Like A Villain and (YTPMV) Bob-Omb Battlesources were made in quite a hurry retroactively. Nevertheless, it was on May 17th 2023, over on my main blog @melblur, that I suddenly decided that I wanted to write about one SiIvaGunner rip a day just for fun. After File Select Fusion Collab, I realized that it made more sense just to put these on their own blog, and with Snowball Park - Super Mario 3D World I moved everything onto here. It's all been a bit of a bumpy ride, is my point. But today, I've reached the big milestone that I was originally aiming for all the way back with Running Through Cookie Country - a year's worth of almost-always-daily posts on the weird and wonderful world of SiIvaGunner. And what better rip to discuss alongside this milestone than the channel's biggest hit, the milestone rip to stand above all others: Season 1's Athletic Doctor.
Now, I've been following SiIvaGunner since some of the earliest moments of Season 1, following along with the initial GiIvaSunner termination, the entire Reboot saga discussed in I Saw a Brainwasher Today, the Mashup Crusaders arc of Mr. Rental [B Side] ~ Out of Options, the channel ending of Epic Flintstones... Basically, I was there for just about the entire initial 9-month run, and have with but one Season's worth of an exception (Season 5) been following the channel damn near obsessively since. The point is that, through this, I have been able to follow the channel's most popular videos chart up and down with each passing month: I recall, for instance, how Nintendo GameCube Startup - Console/BIOS Music soared past all other rips back in the day and stayed on top for five month's time. That was, of course, before finally being surpassed by we are number one but with outdated memes over it and subsequently helping kickstart the entire We Are Number One meme trend (funny enough - you can actually find a youtube comment left by me on the rip in late December 2016/early 2017 expressing mild annoyance over the rip's popularity...). Athletic Doctor in comparison was of course always popular, but it took a while to truly climb its way up there - it was in the top ten, then top five, always rising, bubbling in the background. Eventually, starting with Season 3's premiere, the team decided to just make the rip the trailer for the channel for new viewers - where it still sits today, now as the far-and-away most popular rip on the channel.
I feel like the reason the rip became used as the defacto channel trailer, the reason it keeps being referenced in videos demonstrating what SiIvaGunner is all about, is pretty obvious. I've talked a lot in posts like Live and Ooooooooooooooh about how outright *effective* many of Season 1's rips were, and Athletic Doctor is the most prime example of that imaginable - it is a damn near pitch perfect joke executed shockingly well for the time of its upload in the channel's history. EVERYONE knows the music to Super Mario World, either through its usage in the game itself in the 90s, its appearances in games like Super Smash Bros. Melee in the 2000s and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the 2010s - or just through sheer overexposure to it in just about any era of gaming YouTube. The game's soundtrack is the perfect blend of being immediately recognizable and incredibly easy to hum along to given the entire game basically only has three or so melodies, relying on its central leitmotif to a degree bordering on parody. Likewise as well, EVERYBODY knows Witch Doctor, either through excessive radio play, being a big hit with Alvin & the Chipmunks...or the 2007 Live Action Alvin & the Chipmunks movie that I myself grew up with, it's the kind of vaguely obnoxious (also arguably quite racist) nonsense novelty music that's incredibly appealing to young kids, the same way something like Crazy Frog or its ilk was in the 2000s as well.
Put simply, Athletic Doctor was a match made in heaven - and the joke is pulled off so expertly that it feels redundant to put into words. The Athletic Theme intro is iconic enough to where you're led into a false sense of security right off the bat, the melody swap is subtle enough as to not immediately be noticeable, making the moment you notice it even more noteworthy - only for the track's second loop to become a full-on mashup with the Witch Doctor track. Absolutely perfect escalation, just the right amount of buildup - but most importantly, it ends up actually sounding really good! The joke's great to be sure, very much like Live and Ooooooooooooooh - but I feel like the core reason why Athletic Doctor has continued to endure for so long on the channel, why it keeps getting remixed and referenced and paid tribute to on so many instances, is because it's just a genuinely good listen once the joke sets in. In other words, it is the purest distillation of SiIvaGunner's appeal - a joke so simple, yet pulled off with a magical appeal that remains even all these years later.
Through running this blog, it's that very specific appeal that I've wanted to try and encapsulate with the rips I cover, with what I write about them, to uncover that elusive magic of this dumb shitpost channel. Joel's big Grand Dad reaction that kicked the channel off is a good bit, to be sure, but its not a bit that could've lasted eight years and counting: In its earliest days, its easy to see how the channel could've just become naught but a novelty and fallen off the face off the earth once interest in it died. Yet through each year of the channel's life, with every Season that passes, it's evolved and adapted. Be it the spontaneous chaos of Season 1, the building storyline of Season 2, the mystery and nostalgia of Season 3, the sheer talent on display in the King for Another Day Tournament in Season 4 Episode 1 and the sheer joy of celebration found in Season 4 Episode 2, the whimsical experimentation of Season 5, the sudden introspection and moodiness of Season 6, the pure adoration and love for everything the channel stands for in Season 7, and the ongoing pure silliness of Season 8 - each period of this channel feels as if it's growing in a new direction, never content sitting in one place for too long - and yet the appeal of a rip like Athletic Doctor remains oh so core to the entire SiIvaGunner experience. The experience of which I've made my best effort to cover across all 365 posts on this blog. To show everyone the layers in which this channel goes in.
That's what I've been wanting to show you... but now, before I end this post, I want to briefly talk about what you've shown *me*. I know its a cliché thing to say, but really - it warms my heart EVERY time I receive messages about the blog. This all began as just a way for me to practice my writing ability, but suddenly I was having the actual rippers - the names that I'd admire from my MP3 player but hardly ever considered able to actually interact with - messaging me in private to express how happy my posts made them...not to mention the people in SiIvaCord discussing rips with me, digging into my writing, sharing anecdotes I'd never heard of, and everyone who requested rips genuinely eager to see what I had to write about them...like, again, its the biggest cliché on the planet, and I know this blog really isn't all *that* big in the grand scheme of things - but I never expected to even get more than five people actually engaging with what I post? To everyone, and ESPECIALLY to the silent majority reading my posts without a Tumblr account, the ones engaging from a distance - thank you SO much for validating all that I've done on here.
Now, there's still plenty of posts I have left in me, plenty of ones already in the drafts and unfulfilled requests well in the dozens. But like...tons has happened since when this all started 12 months ago. I got a summer job! I'm wrapping up what's hopefully my final three school courses! I've started listening to so much new music, expanding my music tastes, in huge part thanks to all the digging this blog has made me do! And, of course, getting to be this open about what's likely my absolute weirdest special interest has honestly made me feel more confident in myself as a person, made me a more outgoing individual in general. And so, to get all of my ducks in a row, to help straighten things out for a bit...I'm going to take a break from regular posting on here. I'm aiming for it to be no longer than a month's time - again, I have much I still wish to write about!! - but you'll of course still see me reblogging fanart and other such things on here just from using Tumblr casually. And hey - if you haven't already, I recommend you take the time to go scavenging through The Archive for daily posts that you might have missed! Having a blog with so much writing on it, so many posts, so much to discover for readers old and new...In a way, I've basically made it so that navigating the blog feels just like navigating the vast seas of the SiIvaGunner channel itself. And isn't that just the most fitting way to leave it all on - an ocean of posts, waiting for you to uncover them?
THAT SIIVAGUNNER TUMBLR BLOG WILL RETURN IN SEASON 2

Gameplay stuff!!
Hi! I just wanted to make this post because it's currently the game/save I've been playing and IDK I'm in a sharing mood today. Putting it in a read more because it's lengthy and I'm pretty sure only a few people will be interested in seeing it.
My save right now is kind of an alternate version of Pleasantview because I love that world a lot and I wanted to play in it (but not really in it - do you get what I mean?)
I'm mostly playing as Kaylynn Langerak and her life as a maid trying to work her way up in life and build her own business. However, between juggling her maid job and her love life with her landlord (oops... in my defense they have AMAZING compatibility), she's really not doing much in that department.
I've also been playing with her family, the Langeraks. Kaylynn's aunt, Zelda Mae has been my favorite to play with in that family because she's so fun. She's basically a failed indie artist turned interior decorator who's also trying to get herself back into the dating scene.
A close second favorite in their household is Kaylynn's brother, Parker, who's pretty much always trying to get girls at clubs (and fails at it massively).
A special showcase of their home because I love the way I made it.
-
Anyway, here's a rundown of some of the decisions I've made:
Kaylynn Langerak currently lives in the Futures Past apartment (on the main strip of Oasis Springs)
Don Lothario currently lives in the apartment buildings near the gym on the lower right portion of the map
The Brokes currently live in their trailer on the poorer side of Oasis Springs
The Lotharios (Don's parents) live in the subdivision area of Oasis Springs
The Langeraks live in the upper portion of San Sequioa (the house that's a little cut off in the picture above)
The Newbies (Mary-sue Pleasant's parents) also live nearby in a rental apartment a little ways from the Langeraks
The Pleasants currently live in their original home on the southern portion of San Sequioa. I haven't really fleshed them out and really played with them because the Langeraks are just more interesting for me. However, I did make them hire Kaylynn as their maid (using the NPC maid job) and I'm currently working on having Daniel and Kaylynn have their affair.
The Fiorelios (Don's maternal grandparents) also live in the cottages near the Pleasants
Anyway, that's the save so far!! IDK, just felt like making this post haha

Thinking about the possibilities of modern AU Feyd on this night — hair? No hair? That is the question 🤔
Also, at least now The Crow is coming out during my birthday month 😛 Excited for the content to start really rolling out for Bill’s Eric; I’m already thinking about eventually writing stuff for Eric AND Shelley 💕
I'm here! I finally had the time and the brain capacity to focus on your ask. The planets aligned! LoL
No hair. That's my opinion anyway. The je ne sais quoi of Feyd is his otherworldliness, for me. He is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Part of that is the hairlessness. If he has hair on his head what does that do to our other headcanons? Hairless all over still? Black teeth? Black cum? But I bet you could make it work with hair if you wanted! Do you think hair would negate all those other traits?
And... you brought up The Crow. I knew with my love of Bill it was bound to come up. And yay your birthday month!! 💕 I think I expressed my thoughts about The Crow 2024 best to my friend when I first saw the trailer (below the cut).
I have very mixed feelings because I am a huge fan of the first movie. However, I'm trying to be open minded that this is based on the source material (not a remake of the movie) and we live in the year 2024 so the aesthetic is incredibly different. Plus, I will watch anything Bill Skarsgård does, at least once. I never thought I would agree with his casting for this. Here's the worst part: I want it to be bad so I can keep the first on a pedestal. Brandon Lee was the best part of that film and without him I don't think it would be the cult classic that it is. Perhaps Bill can carry the film if it is otherwise melodramatic and absurd (because, if we're honest, even the comic and first movie were quite over the top). I do prefer the 80s goth look for Eric Draven, but this could work. We'll find out this summer.
I want to assume you've see the first one because you called him Eric but instead I'll ask: have you see the 1994 version? God I was obsessed. I saw it on VHS in 1995 and I immediately had to have the soundtrack (one of the best in that decade). I found a replica of Shelly's engagement ring (I wish I still had that)! I had Crow t-shirts and the posters from the video rental place when they came down. I read every comic I could find and in 1995 it wasn't easy to find them. The Crow tipped me from near-goth to full-goth and that lasted for the next 7 years or so.
I reiterate: I can't make up my mind now. The 2024 version is being called a "reboot" but that's incorrect. It's another adaptation. How many times have novels been adapted and each film is its own? All the time. So I truly hope I can watch it as an adaptation of the source material and not a remake of my beloved cult classic.
That was not your ask, but I'm passionate.
Tumblr gif search is the worst! I made these because none of the ones that came up were what I wanted.

Too Good to Be True - Ch 2
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | ??? | AO3
“Damn, girl,” Kim chuckled as he pulled his truck up in front of Marinette’s new home. “Not bad. You’ve got a yard and everything.”
“Yeah, thankfully Nonna pays someone to take care of it,” Marinette said, sticking her head out of the window to get a look around. There wasn’t any garden space, since Gina wasn’t around often enough to take care of one, but the two-story house had a wraparound porch with plenty of space for flower boxes if she had time to do some planting.
First things first though. “Let’s back the trailer in,” she decided, eyeballing the width of the street. She was pretty sure they could do it. “I’ll get out and direct.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Kim rolled his eyes.
“Don’t roll over my neighbor’s lawns.” Marinette pointed a warning finger at him before she manhandled open the truck’s heavy door and slid the considerable distance to the ground. “I don’t want to make a bad impression.”
A short time and only a few near misses later, Kim had the truck and the rental trailer backed into the driveway. From the porch, Marinette looked at her now slightly crooked mailbox and sighed through her nose. They had way too much work to do for her to chew Kim out now. He would only get sillier if she tore into him and then he’d be completely useless. Instead she just turned and unlocked the door. She went inside to put some water bottles in the fridge while Kim threw up the trailer’s rollup door and pulled out the ramp. He joined her inside for a quick walkthrough, as she pointed out to him which rooms were which and where her color-coded boxes should go. Knowing he was probably only half listening, she put a sticker on each door frame for reference.
“All right, I think we’re ready,” Marinette sighed, rubbing her eyes with one hand. She wished she hadn’t stayed up so late with Alya, but it had been hard to be sensible when they knew it was the last time they would see each other for weeks. Besides, she probably would have been awake anyway, listening to the whirr of the hamster wheel in her brain. It was probably better that she’d been distracted, even if it meant she was more tired than she’d like to be.
“All right!” Kim whooped, punching both fists in the air. “Let’s get this party started!” Marinette shot him a look and he grinned back. “Fifteen minutes,” he said, pressing buttons on his watch. “Whoever hauls the most boxes in fifteen minutes gets to pick what we order for lunch.”
Marinette rolled her eyes, but grinned. She was glad to have Kim here as much for his abilities as a hype man as for his muscles. It would keep her from getting depressed or lonely. Or overwhelmed. There was an awful lot of stuff crammed into that trailer, after all.
She would’ve let him pick lunch, anyway. “You’re on,” she said, and they shared a fistbump before Kim darted up the ramp into the trailer with another whoop.
Marinette followed, not quite running…but she wasn’t about to let Kim show her up, either. He’d never let her forget it. On her third trip up the ramp she nearly ran into Kim as he was coming down with two boxes stacked together.
“Don’t look now,” Marinette told him, “but I think we’re gathering an audience.”
“Where?” Kim tried to look around the boxes. “Are they hot?”
Marinette snorted, and stepped around him, pointing once she was behind the cover of the boxes. Kim looked over and saw an elderly lady studiously examining her flowering hedge with a pair of gardening shears in her hand. He deflated as Marinette giggled.
“It’s the wrong time of year to be pruning those,” she said, patting Kim’s arm as she passed him up the ramp. “I don’t think she’s actually looking at the hedge.”
Kim rolled his eyes and hiked the boxes up in his arms. “You’re just trying to distract me so you win, and it’s not gonna work.”
“Whatever,” Marinette replied, though with the noise he was making clattering back down the ramp she was sure he didn’t hear her. When she came down the ramp she glanced again toward her neighbor, and there was now another old lady on the sidewalk, chatting with the first over the hedge as they shot less-than-covert glances over at the truck and trailer. Marinette freed a hand and waved at them, and they smiled and waved back, nodding cheerfully.
Nosy, but harmless, she decided, carrying on with her unloading. She wanted to get Kim back on his way to the city before dark, if they could manage it, and that meant she didn’t have time to indulge her neighbors’ curiosity at the moment. Hopefully they wouldn’t think she was rude for not coming over to talk.
“Are you sure you didn’t accidentally move to a retirement home?” Kim asked her later. They sat on the porch steps, cheap wooden chopsticks in hand as they ate lunch straight out of the cardboard containers. Marinette couldn’t blame him for asking. Quite a number of neighbors had made their way past on one pretense or another, walking dogs or picking up papers or stopping to “visit” with the hedge neighbor. That lady continued to putter around in her garden, clearly watching, and was just as obviously enjoying being the one everyone stopped to ask for information. Though what she could possibly be telling them, Marinette couldn’t imagine.
She dropped her empty container and chopsticks back into the takeout bag and held it out to Kim so he could do the same.
“I guess we better do that bigass cabinet thing next,” Kim sighed, leaning back on one hand to chug the rest of his water.
“It’s not a cabinet,” Marinette shot back automatically as she tied the takeout bag shut around the trash. “It’s a chifforobe.”
“It’s a pain in the ass is what it is,” Kim groaned. “I regret ever helping you pick it up off the curb.”
Marinette ignored him. It was a beautiful piece of solid wood furniture that had only needed a little love, wood polish, and one new leg to be good as new. It was a perfect place to keep fabric since it had drawers and shelves to hold folded cut lengths, and a tall space that held full bolts. It was beautiful and inspiring all by itself, with carved leaves and flowers along it. Marinette had loved it since the moment she saw it sitting out with a pile of junk that even her grandfather would have called outdated.
She had to admit it was a pain in the ass to move, though, as she and Kim braced themselves on either side of it. It wasn’t the weight, although it was heavy, it was the height. Marinette could feel it wobble as they lifted, but they got the weight balanced so that it was mostly centered. They’d just have to be careful.
Marinette was walking backwards as Kim directed her. Her cheek was jammed against the side of the chifforobe so that she really couldn’t look behind her, but Kim was tall enough to brace it and still mostly see around, so she followed his directions. She got another look at Hedge Neighbor, who was watching them move the big piece of furniture with round eyes and a hand over her mouth, obviously concerned for them.
Honestly, how Alya could possibly think she could get into trouble in a neighborhood full of nice old grannies was really beyond—
“Kim!” she yelled as she felt the chifforobe tipping to one side. Kim only grunted in reply, already struggling to right it, and Marinette felt a moment of panic.
“Whoa.” Suddenly there was another pair of hands holding the sides of the chifforobe, and Marinette felt the weight shift back to where it belonged. “Easy, I got it.”
“Thanks man,” Kim panted. “Mind steadying it for us while we get it up the steps?”
“Sure,” said the voice. “Or I can take the other end if—”
“Nah, Mari can handle it,” Kim grinned cheerfully. “It’s just ‘cause it’s so tall. If you can just keep it from tipping we can handle it. Yeah, Mari?”
“As long as we do it sometime today, Kim,” she ground out, and the mystery person laughed.
“Right,” Kim chuckled breathlessly. “All right, go!”
Marinette felt backward with her foot, and then backed up the porch stairs without any further mishap. They kept going up the stairs inside, and with the help of the stranger, who kept the weight balanced where they needed it, they hauled the big thing all the way up to Marinette’s new studio.
They set it down and Kim let out a whoop, punching up with both fists. “Told you we could do it!”
“Yeah,” Marinette said dryly, straightening more slowly. “With a little help.” Her eyes widened slightly as she looked at their helper. Unlike the entire rest of the neighborhood, he looked around her own age, with sharp, striking features, blue eyes, and shaggy hair tinted blue at the ends. She smiled as she offered her hand. “Thanks for the save.”
“Happy to help,” he said, eyes fixed on her face as he moved to shake her hand. Awfully slowly, it seemed like, but then Marinette was in mission mode and everything seemed to go too slow for her today. “You’re moving in?”
“What gave it away?” she asked with a tired grin.
“Well, welcome to the neighborhood,” he said, pushing his hair back from his face. “I guess we’re neighbors.” He gestured to the side, in the opposite direction from Hedge Neighbor’s house. “I live next door. Name’s Luka, by the way.”
“Aww, Mari, already breaking hearts,” Kim laughed, and Marinette covered the distance between them in two wide steps to smack his arm.
“You are such a loser,” Marinette told him. “Come on, I’m not paying you to stand around.”
“You’re not paying me at all!” Kim complained, though he did start moving. Marinette followed him and Luka followed her back down the stairs.
“Cookies,” Marinette reminded Kim. “It counts.” She glanced over her shoulder at Luka. “I’ll bring you some too. As thanks for saving my favorite piece of furniture from crashing into the concrete.”
“I can’t say no to that.” His voice was low and amused, soft to her ears after Kim’s chronic shouting. Marinette looked back at him and smiled warmly. He seemed nice.
“Only an idiot would say no to Mari’s cookies,” Kim said, and then paused, seeming to consider what he’d said, and began to snicker. Marinette punched him in the arm again as she passed him.
“Whatever your filthy mind is thinking, keep it to yourself,” she sniffed.
“I’m just saying, everyone wants your cookies,” Kim snickered. “Nathaniel, Nino, Adr—” He cut off in a whoosh as Marinette turned and landed a small fist to his stomach.
“I can take you, Lê Chiến Kim,” she warned him, pointing a finger in his face as he bent over.
“Only because you cheat,” Kim wheezed.
Marinette rolled her eyes and looked at Luka. “Please ignore him. He was dropped on his head as a child.”
Luka snorted softly. “My sister and I are the same way. It’s how we show love.” He was still watching her, and if she hadn’t already been flushed from the exertion, she probably would have blushed. He was damn cute, but did he have to stare like that?
“We’re not related,” she said, wrinkling her nose at Kim. “Thank goodness. But we might as well be.” She sighed dramatically. “I’ll never be able to get rid of him.”
“I don’t know Mari,” Kim said, still rubbing his belly as he straightened and grinned at her. “Moving to Grannyville in the middle of Bumfuck, Nowhere might just do it.” He looked at Luka. “No offense.”
“None taken,” Luka replied, grinning, darting a glance at Kim before looking back at Marinette. “I didn’t even know Gina had the place on the market.”
“Oh, she didn’t,” Marinette assured him. “I’m her granddaughter. Since she’s hardly ever home anyway she offered the house to me, as long as I keep a place for her to sleep while she’s in town.”
“Sounds like a sweet deal,” Luka laughed. “I hardly ever see her, but I didn’t realize she was away that much.”
A little warning tingle in the back of Marinette’s mind reminded her that it might not be a great idea to publicize the fact that she'd be living here mostly alone—but if he lived next door he'd definitely figure it out anyway.
“Always on the move, that’s Nonna. Still, you never know when she's going to pop up,” she replied as cheerfully as she could, hoping to steer a middle ground.
Not that her neighbor was likely to try anything when he'd surely be the first suspect.
Ugh, Alya , she grumbled in her mind. She blinked as she realized Luka was speaking to her.
“Sorry, what?” she asked, bringing her mind back to the moment.
“Can I give you a hand with the rest of it?” Luka repeated, gesturing towards the trailer.
“Oh, no need, that was the last big piece,” Marinette said hurriedly, “Kim and I can handle the rest. I don't want to disrupt your whole day.” She gestured to his hands, which were adorned with several bandages. “Besides, you don’t look like you should be hauling stuff.”
“Oh.” Luka flushed and shoved his hands in his hoodie pockets. “It’s fine, just hazards of the trade. I work with a lot of sharp tools.”
“You know what that’s like, right Mari?” Kim grinned, shoving her shoulder. “How many burns did you pick up in the bakery this week?” He picked up her wrist, waving her own hand in front of her face, reminding her that there was a bandage on one side of it.
Marinette made a face at him and snatched her hand back.
“You’re a baker?” Luka asked, and Marinette stiffened, folding her arms.
“I’m a designer,” she said crisply. “My parents are bakers.”
Luka chuckled ruefully. “Ah. Rough being the family rebel, I know. Sorry for making assumptions.”
Marinette shrugged, suddenly embarrassed at her own defensiveness. “Don’t worry about it,” she said, dropping her hands to her hips. “Anyway, thanks again for your help. Sorry for taking up so much of your time.”
“I didn’t have any plans,” Luka shrugged. “But if you're sure, I'll leave you to it. You know where to find me if you change your mind.” He tipped his head towards his own house and gave her a slow smile. “Nice to meet you, Marinette. I'll see you around.”
Marinette smiled back, feeling a flutter in her belly. He really was good looking when he smiled like that. Intense, maybe, but—
Kim coughed, very unsubtly, and Luka and Marinette both jolted. She moved towards the trailer and he towards his house as Kim grinned at them both.
“Not a word,” Marinette hissed at him as she climbed back into the trailer.
“I can't believe you sent him away,” Kim complained. “We could have used the help.”
“We just met, I don't need a stranger all up in my things!” Marinette shot back. She glanced back towards Luka’s house as she walked down the ramp. There was a dark blue utility van parked in his driveway, she now saw. Maybe he had just gotten home? They’d gotten here pretty early. She wondered if he had stayed somewhere else the night before, or she had just missed him leaving earlier.
Kim’s voice right behind her made her jump. “He probably wouldn’t even know what half this stuff is. Hell I've known you for years and I still don't know what half of it is!”
They snarked back and forth in their usual, comfortable way as they hauled boxes and sewing equipment and secondhand furniture into the house. It seemed like it would take forever and then suddenly they were done, staring at the empty trailer.
“Well,” Kim said slowly, “I guess that's it.”
“Yeah,” Marinette said, and had to swallow a lump in her throat. “I guess so.”
Kim dropped an arm around her shoulders and squeezed. Marinette leaned into him, appreciating the gesture though she tried not to breathe. Neither of them were exactly fresh as daisies at this point.
“You should head back,” Marinette said reluctantly, glancing at the setting sun. “So at least you don’t have to make the whole trip back in the dark.”
“Yeah.” Kim cleared his throat, then dropped his arm and tried to grin. “Watch out for Hot Neighbor Dude. Pretty slim pickings around here and he was eyeing you up like a prime steak. Don’t give it up too easy.”
Marinette scoffed and folded her arms, but when Kim turned towards her and wrapped his arms around her, she couldn’t help hugging him back, sweaty and gross as he was. “Take care of yourself, Mari,” he said into her hair, and Marinette squeezed him tight.
Then she let go and stood back, smiling up at him. “I’ll be fine. We’re not that far from the city, and I’m sure I’ll be up at least once a month showing designs or buying fabric.”
“Yeah,” Kim agreed. He reached up and pulled down the trailer door. Marinette followed him to the door of his truck and stood there as he climbed up. He leaned out of the window, rubbing the back of his head. “Call me next time you come up, we’ll do lunch or whatever you high-powered fashion execs do.”
Marinette nodded and stepped back. “Don’t forget to drop the trailer off before noon tomorrow!” she called. Kim started the truck, waved one last time out of the window, and then pickup and trailer trundled off down the road.
Marinette stood there for a moment longer, folding her arms around herself. It was hard not to feel a little bit abandoned, even though this had been her own choice. In rational moments she knew it was the right choice, and the right time to make it.
She still felt alone, though.
Movement in the corner of her eye made her turn her head, and she thought she saw a shadow in the window of the neighbor’s house before the curtain fell closed again.
Luka? Her skin prickled at the thought that he was watching but she shook off the feeling. It was natural for him to be curious, she supposed. He seemed nice enough, if a little awkward, and she was hardly one to throw stones on that count. The memory of his smile brought a curve to her own lips.
Okay, enough moping.
She dusted herself off, and went back into the house. Gina had cleared out as much of her stuff as possible, and everything felt empty and echoing, even with Marinette’s stuff moved in. She hardly had enough stuff to fill the whole house, after all, and what she did have was mostly still packed up.
Well, nothing like a little bit of organizing to make you feel more in control of your life.
Marinette rubbed her hands together and looked around. “All right, time to get started.”

Listen, I just want to lay on a slightly too small woven carpet with the man of my current dreams as we smoke a couple of joints underneath the desert sky close to where he lives (in a trailer, near his mom, where he does nothing but smoke and read pretentious European novels I couldn't even finish), as he tells me a story that may or may not be true about how he went on a solo hiking trip in the desert once with compass and all, but somehow still got lost, then after half a day found his way after taking a bite of a very dubious cactus because it gave him visions. He mutters something vaguely philosophical about cacti and the stars as he takes a ginormous drag. We drove here in his heap of crap car and on the way through town he spends a lot of time detailing where all the video rental stores used to be and which sodas he can no longer buy around here. Also he says the little carpet is genuinely Peruvian but he actually got it at Walmart

Fucking THIS.
So guna go on somewhat of a rant here.
Shortening with this nifty button I found since I'm in mobile, and it helps others in mobile not scroll for forever and a day.
In the US, renting a place is not only expensive, but anoying to even attempt.
So like, where Im at, some of rental places want your monthly income to be 3X the rent. Now a key factor here is that I live near a military base, but that only accounts for so much. Back to topic tho, even without the triple requirement, you still need first month rent and a deposit. Aside from a trailer that's 30+ years old and falling apart, the best price your going to get is between 800-1000/mo. And that's for a semi-decent single wide trailer. A 900sqft house of any kind is going to easily run you 1200+
Now, the majority of people are going to be making about (super rough estimate here) maybe about 1600/mo on average? Since most places are doing their best to keep you at the national minimum wage still (7.50/hr) and part time in most places. But the 1600 is assuming the person is full time at 10/hr. And that's BEFORE TAXES. From there, again before taxes, they'd have about 400/mo leftover assuming they were in a place that would cost them 1200/mo. Utilities would eat easily 200-300. Which leaves 100. That's what's left for payments and groceries.
Leaving out the taxes is how I could explain if the person was maybe in a cheaper place. It's possible. But this is all if they wanted to be in a place by themselves.
You practically need to have room mates if you want to be able to save any amount of money, because everything is so fucking expensive these days you can't really save money.
"Just increase wages then!"
Ok, first, see the above graph. CLEARLY that's not going to happen. Big companies want to make more money however they can. And even if that did happen, capitalism would just boot itself up and increase prices because "oh people have more money so we can charge more". Increases to wages would unfortunately be a super short solution to the bigger problem.
Do I have a solution? Not at all. But I can at least see the problem.
It took me two years to save up almost 10k, and that's because I had a job working at a bulk chemical company making 23/hr, while I was living with two other people. With a (very lucky find) rent of 750, and about 400 in utilities. (Water, electric, internet)
I had to live with two other people, making well over the average wage of the state I live in, and it took me two years to save enough money to have 35% of a down payment on an average price for a house.
That's an entire other topic to delve into later.
All that said though, I just want to be able to have my own place and not have to worry about needing to spend ever waking hour of my time working just so I can scrape by and pretend that I have a semblance of a life.
If you want to know why people have lost faith in capitalism, this might help

Yard Waste Dumpster Rental Near Me: The Complete Guide to Efficient Yard Cleanup
Managing yard waste can be a significant challenge, especially after large landscaping projects, seasonal cleanups, or storm damage. Piles of leaves, branches, soil, and other organic waste can accumulate quickly, taking up space and affecting your yard’s appearance. When local yard waste pickup isn’t enough or when you need a one-time disposal solution, renting a yard waste dumpster can be the most convenient and efficient option. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about finding the best “yard waste dumpster rental near me,” the benefits of renting, types of waste you can dispose of, and tips for choosing the right rental service.
Why Rent a Yard Waste Dumpster?
Renting a dumpster for yard waste allows you to efficiently and quickly clear out debris without waiting for weekly yard waste pickups or dealing with multiple bags. Here are some compelling reasons to consider a yard waste dumpster rental:
Convenience and Efficiency: A yard waste dumpster allows you to clear large amounts of debris in a single trip, making it ideal for big projects.
Saves Time and Effort: With a dumpster on-site, you don’t need to bag leaves or branches individually. Simply toss everything in the dumpster and let the rental company handle the disposal.
Cost-Effective for Large Projects: If you have a substantial amount of waste, a dumpster rental can be more affordable than paying for multiple curbside pickups or hauling the waste yourself.
Eco-Friendly Disposal: Reputable dumpster rental companies often ensure that yard waste is disposed of or composted properly, helping to reduce landfill waste and support eco-friendly practices.
What Can You Dispose of in a Yard Waste Dumpster?
Yard waste dumpsters are specifically designed for organic, non-hazardous yard materials. Although policies may vary slightly by provider, here’s a list of commonly accepted items:
Grass Clippings: Ideal for lawn maintenance cleanups, especially in spring and summer.
Leaves: Large quantities of leaves can easily fill a dumpster, reducing the need for endless bags.
Branches and Brush: Great for disposing of branches and trimmings from trees, shrubs, and bushes.
Tree Stumps and Logs: Some dumpsters can handle small tree stumps and logs; however, confirm with the provider regarding size and weight restrictions.
Dirt and Soil: Light soil and small amounts of dirt are usually acceptable, although larger quantities may require a specialized dumpster.
Plants and Weeds: General garden waste, including weeds and old plants, can be tossed into the dumpster.
Note: Avoid putting construction debris, household trash, and hazardous materials in yard waste dumpsters. Check with the rental company for their specific guidelines on acceptable and prohibited items.
Types of Yard Waste Dumpsters Available
Different projects require different sizes and types of dumpsters. Here’s a quick look at the types available:
1. Roll-Off Dumpsters
Roll-off dumpsters are the most common type used for yard waste. They are delivered to your property and rolled off a truck for convenient placement. Roll-off dumpsters come in various sizes, from 10 to 40 cubic yards, accommodating projects of all scales.
2. Small Dumpsters (Mini Dumpsters)
If you only have a small amount of yard waste, such as a few bags of leaves or trimmings, a mini dumpster (around 10 cubic yards) may be sufficient. These are also great if you have limited space on your property for a larger dumpster.
3. Dump Trailers
Some rental companies offer dump trailers, which are typically more maneuverable than traditional roll-off dumpsters. They’re great for tight spaces and can hold moderate amounts of yard waste.
How to Find the Best “Yard Waste Dumpster Rental Near Me”
Finding a reliable and cost-effective dumpster rental service is crucial for an efficient yard cleanup experience. Here’s how to locate the best local providers:
1. Search Online for “Yard Waste Dumpster Rental Near Me”
A quick online search with your location and the keyword “yard waste dumpster rental near me” will show local providers and reviews. This will give you a sense of who’s available, their pricing, and customer feedback.
2. Check for Local Reviews and Ratings
Online reviews on sites like Yelp, Google, and Better Business Bureau can give you insight into a provider’s reliability, customer service, and any hidden fees. Look for companies with a solid reputation, transparent pricing, and positive feedback.
3. Compare Prices and Services
Different companies have different pricing structures. Some may charge by the day, while others offer weekly rentals at a flat rate. Compare prices based on rental duration, dumpster size, and any additional fees, such as delivery or disposal charges.
4. Confirm Pickup and Delivery Options
When searching for a local rental provider, confirm that they serve your area, offer convenient delivery and pickup options, and can accommodate your preferred timeline. Some companies offer same-day or next-day delivery, which can be particularly helpful if you need a dumpster urgently.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Yard Waste Dumpster Rental
Before committing to a rental, consider these essential factors to ensure you’re making the best choice:
1. Size of the Dumpster
Choose a dumpster size that meets the demands of your project. Here’s a quick guide:
10-15 Cubic Yards: Ideal for small yard cleanups, like leaf removal or minor landscaping.
20 Cubic Yards: Suitable for medium-sized projects, such as tree trimming or garden overhauls.
30-40 Cubic Yards: Best for large yard cleanups, full landscape redesigns, or significant storm damage cleanup.
2. Duration of Rental
Determine how long you’ll need the dumpster. Most companies offer rentals on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Be realistic about your timeframe; if your project might take a few days, a weekly rental might be more affordable than daily rates.
3. Costs and Additional Fees
Costs can vary significantly, so it’s wise to get quotes from multiple providers. Ask about the base rental fee and any additional costs, such as delivery fees, disposal fees, or overage charges if you exceed weight limits.
4. Weight Limits and Restrictions
Some dumpster rentals have strict weight limits, especially for yard waste. Heavy items like wet soil, large logs, or tree stumps may incur extra fees. Ensure you know the weight limits and choose a dumpster that can handle your waste volume.
5. Environmental Practices
Many reputable dumpster rental companies follow eco-friendly disposal practices, such as composting or recycling yard waste. If supporting sustainability is important to you, ask if the company has green disposal methods in place.
How to Prepare for Your Yard Waste Dumpster Delivery
Once you’ve chosen your yard waste dumpster rental provider, preparing your space for the delivery will ensure a smooth process. Here’s how to get ready:
Select a Drop-Off Location: Choose a flat, stable surface, such as a driveway or area near your yard, where the dumpster can be easily accessed.
Clear the Area: Make sure the area is free from obstacles like cars, furniture, or garden tools.
Check for Clearance: Dumpsters need adequate vertical clearance for drop-off and pick-up, so ensure there’s no risk of overhead branches or power lines getting in the way.
Gather Yard Waste: Start gathering your yard waste and organize it by type if possible. This can make the disposal process quicker and reduce the risk of accidentally throwing in prohibited items.
Tips for Filling Your Yard Waste Dumpster Efficiently
Maximizing space in your yard waste dumpster is essential to getting the most out of your rental. Here are some tips to help:
Break Down Large Items: Cut up branches, tree limbs, and large plant stems to fit more into the dumpster.
Layer Heavier Materials at the Bottom: Place heavier waste, like soil or logs, at the bottom and lighter materials, like leaves, at the top.
Distribute Waste Evenly: This prevents overflow and ensures the dumpster can be transported safely.
Avoid Overfilling: Many companies charge extra if waste sticks out over the top edge, so make sure to stay within the container’s limits.
Conclusion
Renting a yard waste dumpster is an excellent solution for large-scale yard cleanups, landscaping projects, and seasonal maintenance. With the convenience of on-site disposal and the ability to clear debris efficiently, it’s an ideal choice for homeowners looking to keep their yard pristine. By researching “yard waste dumpster rental near me,” comparing local providers, and planning your rental effectively, you can find the perfect dumpster size and service to fit your needs. A yard waste dumpster not only saves time and effort but also ensures that your outdoor space is ready for any season.
