On Violence and Ideals

I don’t really agree with how I often see Ashe represented in the community. I’m not a fan of how she tends to be almost pacified in her role as the protagonist, a bit too much of a violence averse goodie-two-shoes. Ashe is an idealist, and she has lofty goals for the betterment of the Freljord, but she is far from a pacifist and her sense of morality is far more in line with the warlike culture she was raised in, I see her as far more similar to Sejuani than is typically portrayed. Ashe was raised by warriors to become a warrior herself, fighting and violence are second nature to her.

In The Harder Path, we see Ashe presented with the leader of an enemy tribe, Hildur, one who was guilty of the slaughter of another tribe under Avarosan banner. She had surrendered to Ashe, bargaining her own penance for the sake of her tribe, and Ashe's first instinct is to behead her with Hildur's own axe. A swift and brutal act of vengeance, an eye for an eye, but she doesn't, and in sparing Hildur she's fighting with herself. Battling to prove that this practically cultural cycle of Freljordians killing each other is not the answer, but that's not easy, on another day in a fouler mood she could have easily taken Hildur's head as a warning to those who cross her. Although, her ideals of peace do not align with her absolute hatred for Draklorn and Frost Priests, she still holds a grudge over Maalcrom’s betrayal, and none of them will get any mercy from her.  

Leadership is easily challenged in the Freljord, anyone self assured enough can claim the current leader to be weak or unfit and demand ritual combat for sovereignty. Ashe is no stranger to this, having seen her aunt Helnr challenge Grena, and been herself forced to grant a warrior’s death to members of her own tribe over their squables, a loathsome tradition but one she saw as necessary. The strong govern the Freljordian tribes, and Ashe does not always appear to be so, being both young and small, the tall tales of her being Avarosa reincarnated are not enough for some, so a display in battle is sometimes the ony way to prove her strength, as regrettable as it may be.

i think it depends on the day but there are some things she probably has to do daily when it comes to her duties and stuff. as warmother she leads her people into battle, but ashe is also their leader and ruler in general. this means she has to make decisions concerning stuff from protecting those of her people who aren't fighters to ensuring there's food for everyone or settling disputes between the different tribes that joined the avarosans.

i imagine daily, or almost every day, ashe would have to set apart some amount of time to basically hold court. tryndamere's short story shows him doing so in her absence, but yeah, basically to listen to any petitioners and decide how to best settle the problems they bring to her. in case she can't do it for whatever reason, that's a daily duty that falls to tryndamere, as the only other person she'd entrust with the power to make decisions in her stead.

hers is a really large tribe, by now; sejuani says at its peak she led thousands in the winter's claw, and the avarosans are in even greater numbers. ashe can't oversee everything personally, but i also think she's the type to be meticulous and want to ensure everything is running smoothly from up close, so i do think she'd make it a habit to meet with those in charge of different areas to hear about any progress or concern. for example, if there's someone in charge of supplies, she'll talk to them frequently to know what's working and what isn't. this way, if there are issues, she can deal with solving them as soon as possible.

so a lot of her time is occupied with leading and all that it entails, mostly the administrative part of things. i think she always wakes up early and starts to work early, and i think there's an established hour she'd open the hall to petitioners and an established time to stop. i also think ashe frequently joins the hunting parties. food is essential to survival, and as warmother she is expected to feed her people. the avarosans also cultivate the land, but hunting would nevertheless be an important source of food — and the one ashe herself is more apt to help with.

when it comes to free time, it varies. it's said vikings enjoyed board games and something akin to chess, and the freljord being so based on them, i like the idea they'd have board games too (also seems. to make sense with having to entertain themselves while staying inside when the weather keeps them inside). additionally, i'd assume oral tradition is pretty strong — most notably with the notai and their music and stories, but to some extent prevalent in other tribes as a way to pass down knowledge and keep stories and traditions alive in a people that was mostly nomadic or semi nomadic and wouldn't be carrying books around; and i say that because i think be it in song or tale, ashe would enjoy listening to storytellers or bards or whatever it is they'd be called.

alternatively, i think she'd also enjoy telling stories. warmother or not i can easily picture her with a bunch of kids from the tribe telling them the stories her tribe used to tell (or even! stories about them! i'm sure people would ask for tales of grena's deeds, but i'm also sure ashe would tell about any significant deeds from anyone she grew up around and keep their memory alive in that way as well). this is just a sidenote but i also just think she'd be good with kids.

when it's possible, she also enjoys being outdoors. sailing down rivers, swimming if the temperatures allow, staying outside to stargaze... not that the telling stories part of things wouldn't also be enjoyed outdoors because i think it would. oh and she'd also enjoy the occasional drink and drinking game. 'tis the way it is.

Okay I know that Ashe calling Sejuani battlesister in the Freljord is this meaningful tradition and it’s tragic, but to me it sounds like the name of a 90s toy line with optional cartoon. Huh. That’d be a fun skin line, all kind of cheesy plastic armour.

Battlesisters but is a silly 80's-90's cartoon with just a season of two girls trying to bond sisterhood but they hate each other and then in the end they realize that power of love and friendship is actually meaningful and hug and now you can buy a happy meal with plastic figures of them.

The beauty of Traditional Sejuani's splash art (art by Bo "chenbowow" Chen)

Traditional Sejuani is by far a worse character design than her updated form. Like, it was silly to have her riding around in a leather bikini. All the same, this splash art is maybe one of the best storytelling pieces in the game. 

To start with, the light falls squarely on Sejuani, and secondarily on Bristle, as a member of the Winter’s Claw, in shadow, has entered, and is offering Sejuani her helmet. 

And look her posture. She’s not striking an action pose, ready to ride to battle, her flail hangs limp up on the wall, and in her state of undress she looks a little... vulnerable. Her body is turned towards Bristle, hand on his snout and caressing his tusk, and her expression as she regards the helmet is almost doubtful, or a little sad, as though this thing is not a symbol of glory but a burden that is being presented to her. 

Sejuani is a character that does not often get to be tender. She has a few vulnerable moments with Ashe in the Warmother comic, but 99.9% of the time we get to see her, she is in Warmother Mode, she is all warfare and leadership all the time, but this splash art shows her in a vulnerable moment, a moment of intimacy with her best and probably only friend, a moment of uncommon softness. And that which interrupts it is not only the helmet, the symbol of her martial power and leadership, but also her tribesmen, the people who depend on her, who need her to be brutal in their leadership. And when you look at that expression… the overwhelming sense that I get is that she doesn’t really want to.

Sejuani and Bristle are in the light, together, but the flail and the messenger and the helmet are all in shadow or out of focus. This splash art isn’t about Sejuani the Warrior, it is about Sejuani the Person, and the one relationship she has that doesn’t revolve around some form of violence.

And I really can’t think of another splash art in the game that even tries this kind of storytelling. It is beautiful to me.

If Riot Games ever wanted to kick Warhammer Fantasy out of business, they could probably do so within seconds

Don't get me wrong, 40k and the entire Sci-Fi aspect of it, is iconic at this point and so long running it essentially counts as a cross-generational hobby now. But Warhammer Fantasy? The one thing a passing glance would lable as "generic Tolkien knockoff with bits of randomness sprinkled in"?Just take that and pile it up against the entirety of the Runeterran Universe.

Runeterra offers:

Noxus: the "customize your warbands with style and loadouts"-region. The Roman Empire in red and black. Shield Breakers. Siege Engines. The Trifarian Legion. Sabotage/Blackpowder Experts. Minotaurs... they got a LOT going on, that's for sure.

Demacia: White and blue, more of a traditional knight aesthetic. Smaller in number but more specialized. Only one of two factions who has an "air force" with their Silverwings (seriously a Silverwing Knight painted by an expert would look so ABSOLTUELY dope)

Freljord: generic ice/viking barbarian region - or so you think. Frozen Thralls. The Watchers. 3 different flavours of North-Warrior. Imagine getting a Sejuani model as a warlord...

Bilgewater: Black-Powder. Just because it is land combat, a cannon is a cannon and a 7 feet tall guy with a harpoon is still that.

Ionia: Ninjas. Spirits. Weird magics and martial arts. Often declared as the "anime region"(derogatory) it surely adds a lot of variance to the mix. Highest concentration of Vastaya in the world also makes for some curious models.

Piltover&Zaun: does not have an army but about a million academy dropouts all busy doing SCIENCE! (TM). Very versatile region for being a dual-thing, but overall the "tech-guys". From Chemtank Thugs to Caitlyn's Elite Enforcers, there is a wide range to draw from.

Shurima. You hate sand because it is rough, annoying, and gets everywhere? Too bad, because shurima, with the exception of some tiny Ixtali enclave, is 99% sand. You have eternally mutated/cursed half-humans lurking under the desert, and giant ascendant super-warriors clashing above. Sand shaped into all sorts of things, from fighters, to rides, to monsters.

Shadow Isles: dead people. Token Undead faction. Probably the weakest link of the bunch, but hey they do add some variation at least.

Targon: regular humans are boring? Alright, how about super-elite armies of Solari and Lunari followed by monsters that sometimes are only called "dragons" because there is no other word for whatever crazy monstrosity the sentient mountain has spat out now. Celestials in general can probably make for awesome painting projects.

Void: Monsters. Madness. Cultists. Pretty generic but darn they would make some absurdly crazy monster models.

Of course if they'd also pull up with a 21th century business model, as opposed to whatever GW is doing, they'd just win by simply showing up. They just need to make a deal with a 3D-Printer company, and literally all their stuff becomes "we'll print it when you order, as customized as you want".

They have at least 10 factions here ready to use, and many of them also have relevant sub-factions that do their own thing. The models you could make from this... watch my build an entire army of Ottrani (the people Soraka currently looks like) just for the heck of it.

Ashe had always been a quiet but determined person. Her only goal was to keep her people protected - and thriving. She cared little for her own protection, her own happiness.

She lived for one thing only: a better Frelijord, standing united in the face of danger.

Living such a high-risk life, Ashe felt... shocked when she was asked to take a bloodsworn.

She felt indignation.

She didn't need a bloodsworn. She definitely didn't need a partner she couldn't love nor properly care for as a warmother.

She didn't wish for any of this.

War and struggle? Pain? Sleepless nights and exhaustion? These were all things she could handle with honor and pride.

But to lose the quiet warmth of her home, her only comfort...

That was a very troubling thought.

When her tribe's priests advised her not to take one, but three or four bloodsworns - she fell even deeper in the dark pit of her dilemma, desperately trying to find a solution.

She wasn't like Sejuani, highly known for her rich harem of partners.

Ashe was sure she wouldn't be able to handle one bloodsworn - let alone three or four.

Tryndamere came as the perfect solution. He wouldn't bring any political consequences to their union. He was a strong man that could help her protect the tribe.

More than that, he was an experimented and mature man who wouldn't disturb the quiet peace of her home.

Still, she was surprised when Tryndamere actually accepted her offer, especially after being so blunt.

Ashe was unaware of the full extent of his struggles. She was unaware of his pain and suffering, of his loneliness and need for something more.

Of course, they didn't have their happy life together.

Not immediately.

Tryndamere remained a wild and unapproachable man for quite a long period of time after their union. He shocked her whole tribe through his untamed bestiality - fighting his way to the top of the warrior hierarchy, trying to prove that he was worthy of such an honor.

Their bed remained cold for months to come.

Those were the hardest months of Ashe's life.

She was struggling to keep her people fed, warm and happy. She was struggling in her private life as well - the war chiefs of her council constantly pestering her for the decisions she made. Only one bloodsworn? And no sign of offspring?

The questions made her more weary with each passing day. What if he wasn't a good seed? What if he wasn't enough? How could a warmother be satisfied with only bloodsworn? How could she step over ancient traditions?

That night, when Tryndamere returned home from another day of bloody fighting and training, he found Ashe crying.

His heart broke for her.

Here he was, with a home. A wife. A tribe to finally call his own.

And he was neglecting his own duties as her husband.

When he wrapped his arms around her in understanding, Ashe felt like her whole being was blooming. Never had she felt the way she did now, being held by the man she fancied.

It comforted her more than everything else in her life. It gave her hope and strength to keep going.

From this point on, they became less like strangers and more like lovers.

Now that they weren't actively avoiding each other, their initial attraction and chemistry returned in full strength.

They started spending time together.

Tryndamere would accompany her to the tribe meetings. It was a huge relief for Ashe. This way, she avoided the invasive questions of her tribe. After all, they wouldn't dare question Ashe while Tryndamere was there, right next to her.

Always watchful. Always on his guard.

Now, they go out for rides every other day. This is how Ashe discovers true freedom - riding on her mount, her hands lost in his thick fur - with Tryndamere at her side.

Tryndamere... Tryndamere can only feel happy and proud when he watches Ashe lose herself in the moment - head thrown back with a soft laughter blooming out of her chest.

A laughter made out of pure crystal.

Throughout the day, he would never question Ashe's decisions. His loyalty is unyielding. He is her most dedicated, loving subject.

Sejuani x Injured!Reader Drabble

Warning: Mentions of wounds and blood

The clan of the Frostfang was a dying breed. Whereas the Winter's Claw chose violence out of tradition, culture and for the sake of their reputation, the Frostfang chose violence out of pure anarchy. Other clans looked down on them as more animal than human, they were fools who charged into battle without second thought. Such idiocy was weakness, and the Winter's Claw did not tolerate weakness.

So when Sejuani found you unconscious in a blizzard, your ruby red blood staining the white snow around you, she should've left you there. Let your clan take its natural course as it died to their own misfortunes. Any other warrior of the Winter's Claw would've, and as leader Sejuani should set the example.

Instead, she picked you up and secured you in her arms as she rode Bristle back to shelter. She already had enough supplies to last a couple of days, there was no way she could take you back to the stronghold, the instant they see you with Sejuani the entire clan will lose faith in her.

After Sejuani patched you up once finding refuge in a cave, she sat beside you, searching your features. What brought her to save you? Perhaps it was how unconventional you looked, you looked so gentle. The tattoo of the Frostfang clan was unmistakable on your forearm, the many scars that littered your body prior to your current injuries was no mistake either, but your resting face was so calm and tranquil. Your eyebrows weren't furrowed, your breathing was slow and heavy. You didn't look like a barbarian, much like the Frostfang had a reputation for. To Sejuani, you had the face that made people think angels truly walked among the people. So honest, so innocent yet holding an inner power, it would've been a crime to leave you in the snow.

So caught up in watching your features, Sejuani almost didn't notice you awaken. She noticed how your eyes widened upon registering who she was, the fear that struck your face. You started to hurriedly sit up but any movement would reopen your wounds. But Sejuani had the solution.

She lunged forward, hands on your shoulders as she pushed you down to the floor with all her weight. Her knees on either side of you, you weren't moving anywhere. But your panic only started to grow, she could feel your muscles tensing under her grip and she started to panic if you over-exerted yourself.

“Let me go!” You rasped but Sejuani growled in response.

“You're not going anywhere.”

“I didn't mean to bother. Just let me go and forget I ever existed, I won't tell anyone about this, I swear,” you muttered quickly, still struggling astonishingly well despite your wounds. The true Frostfang spirit was kicking in, Sejuani was impressed. “Just don't kill me!”

Sejuani hesitated.

“What?”

You hesitated in return.

“Huh?”

“You thought I was going to kill you?”

“You are Sejuani, Warmother of the Winter's Claw, yes?”

“Yes, but,” Sejuani frowned. For once, she was stupefied. Impulses were only good in battle, when they helped preserve your life. But now, she acted on impulse on something else entirely, to save someone's life.

Sighing she got off of you before helping you sit up against a wall. She couldn't help but tense as she felt your gaze following her expectantly, waiting for her to speak but she couldn't find any words.

“What happened to you?” Sejuani asked simply and you grimaced in response.

“Trolls. Ambushed our tribe, shouting about how we were 'interfering with an Ice Witch',” you shrugged bitterly. “We don't back down, so we tried to fight it out, even if we were outnumbered.”

“Are there any other survivors?”

“If it's just me...” your head twitched away at the unpleasant thought. As you tried to relay through the violent memories, trying to remember if anyone was still standing as you fell, Sejuani was stuck in thoughts of her own. She watched your pondering, you were rather unique. A Frostfang that spoke so well, so sensitive. Despite your supposed gentle disposition, your ability to survive such a ruthless battle and injuries was a strength in itself, right?

“I have nowhere to go...” you whispered, so softly you could barely hear yourself.

You were stirred out of your morbid thoughts as you felt animal fur wrap around your forearm, tightened and hiding your Frostfang mark.

“You are no longer Frostfang,” Sejuani stated. “You are a true warrior, free to go as you please. If that is searching for your past people, so be it. If it is to join the Winter's Claw, you may.”

“Do you have a preference for where I go?”

Sejuani didn’t reply, save for a single nod.

Short crappy bio

A young shark-like Vastaya. Born in Ionia, west of the island Sudaro. He was captured as a child by  Bilgewater pirates after straying too close to the surface and being found. Was then put to work on the Slaughter Docks, and trained to hunt in the traditional Serpent Isles manner: “launching themselves at their targets to secure tow-hooks with their bare hands, and beginning to butcher the creatures while they yet lived.”.

I need to update myself on League lore, but I would like him 2 be acquaintances with Nami and Fizz. Also, Rollick would have heard stories about Pyke and would find him really cool. Ideally, he would have Johnny Yong Bosch as his voice actor because I love how he voiced Kung Jin in Mortal Kombat X, but I don’t know how he’d do with a pirate accent lmao.

Kit

Would be classed as a Fighter with the sub-class Diver. At least I think he would.  

His kit is basically just a mash-up of multiple champions with extra ingredients. Riot do it themselves, so I'm allowed to, too. Pirate lingo used for most of his abilities and voice lines b/c I'm not creative for naming things.

 Passive "Blow the Man Down." : A mash-up of Rengar and Darius' but more complicated. Auto-attacking 3 times in a row, or using abilities, gives his unused abilities 3 different tiers of empowerment. (Like, if you auto-attack 3 times, use W, then Q, his E will have tier 3 empowerment.). Tiers 2 and 3 gives the target bleed when hit by abilities, applying "Blood in the Water."  Applying the bleed multiple times makes it stack, tier 2 stacks like two stacks of tier 1 bleed, tier 3 stacks like two stacks of tier 2 bleed. How many times can it stack? Idk. 5? 7? 10?? ok probably not 10 that would be stupid.

2nd passive "Clipper." : Rollick moves faster in the river; this move speed scales with his normal move speed.

Q "Feed the Fish." : Tier 1 is a swipe in an AOE cone with his claws. Tier 2 is a small lunge in a targeted direction with two swipes, one with each hand. Tier 3 is a longer distance lunge with a bite. If tier 3 lands on a moving target (examples: scuttlecrab when it dashes, Ezreal using his E), it will follow the target like Warwick Q/Evelynn E. The bite will also heal him for a small amount.

W "Hook, Line, Sinker." : is like Rengar's Bola Strike with a wider but shorter range for tiers 1 and 2, but he leaps in the targeted direction at tier 3 and if he hits something, covers it with his net and stays on top of them for a short amount of time. Tier 2 spins the target around from they way Rollick throws his net and will turn the opposite direction of the way the target was originally standing. If you're facing Rollick and the tier 2 net hits you, your back is now turned to Rollick.

E "Chase." : Warwick Blood Hunt but either less or more annoying. Cooldown is shorter in duration, but so is its active. The passive part of it only shows paths to champions affected with a bleed, burn or poison DOT effect. (Includes: Rollick's "Blood in the Water", Darius'  "Hemorrhage", Brand's  "Blaze", Gangplank's  "Trial by Fire", Lillia's  "Dream Dust", Cassiopeia's  "Noxious Poison" and  "Debilitating Poison", Twitch's "Deadly Venom", Teemo's  "Toxic Shot" and  "Noxious Trap", Singed's  "Poison Trail", the  "Scorch" rune,  "Ignite" summoner spell,  "Challenging Smite" summoner spell, "Azakana Gaze" from  Demonic Embrace, and "Torment" from  Liandry's Anguish.

R "Cleave 'Em to the Brisket!" : Similar to Skarner's "Impale". Rollick takes the hooked blade he has on his belt and lunges at the target, stabbing into the enemy champion's chest with his chest to their back, and drags them away. "Cleave 'Em to the Brisket!" can only be used on a champion that has their back turned towards Rollick. It applies a tier 3 "Blood in the Water." upon use. It can yank champions out of  Displacement Immunity, but doesn't suppress the target champion entirely, they are still able to use dash and blink abilities, use Thresh's  "Dark Passage", recast  "Death Sentence" , and use most movement summoner spells ( Flash, Hexflash, Mark/Dash), but if they do, half of their current HP is taken away from the hooked knife being dragged/yanked out of them. If you are 30% HP and you use one of the movement abilities mentioned, you will leave with 15% HP and two stacks of tier 3 bleed. For 5 seconds after using his ult, Rollick uses his knife to attack, gaining increased auto-attack range and his autos apply a tier 1 bleed stack per hit. The enhanced auto-attacks drag his targets towards him because of the hook part in his knife getting caught on them.

Animation ideas

Walking animation is him using his arms and tail to "crawl". imagine the gif has a tail instead of legs

Running animation is the same concept, just with much more effort put into making himself move faster. Moving in the river looks more like he’s swimming rather than crawling. Slowed animation is him dragging himself slowly with his head facing the ground, putting weight on his elbows instead of using his arms completely. Like an army crawl but in pain.

Idle animation is him crossing his arms and resting on his elbows, then looking around and inspecting his claws.

If left in idle animation for more than 15 seconds, he drops down completely and puts his head in his arms and dozes off. Moving after the sleep idle will have him shake his head awake when starting to move.

Death animation is him trying to crawl, being unable to, then collapsing on his side and flopping onto his back.

Taunt animation is him straightening himself then lashing out with his hands and baring his teeth before "biting" the air in the direction he’s standing, voice lines coming out before the bite part.

Joke animation is him chasing his own tail? Maybe he gets tangled in his net after doing it for a second and just struggles there until the animation is interrupted.

Dance is uh. He straightens up and does knife tricks. He doesn’t have legs, doesn’t have a staff like Nami, and just wouldn’t dance like Cassiopeia.

His laugh animation would be him laughing and flopping onto his back, then turning back onto his stomach. All but one of his laughs would be loud and hearty, the one that isn’t would sound like Kung Jin’s laugh.

I got Sejuani. Unboxed her traditional skin after my first game scoring an S rank with her. I love her playstyle so much. I'm not one to play tanks, but she's so fun to play and attractive. Buff ladies be my downfall. I'm so gay'n weak for strong women. RIOT, I WANT MORE BUFF LADIES.
