“southern gothic” this “appalachian gothic” that. come to the mornington peninsula.
over one third of the dwellings uninhabited, long long roads made from dirt and gravel and religious signs tied to fences you’ll see nowhere else in the damn state. old rotting hospitals boxed in by mansions and rural localities going nowhere. churches made from wood and sharehouses made from iron. the most beautiful place in the world with a higher suicide rate then almost anywhere else in or in the immediate vicinity of the melbourne metro area.
decaying houses squished together on the banks of billabongs with boats that have been sitting in the water as long as there has been electricity on the peninsula. chain smoking grandmas in west rosebud and transplant millionaires who live in the gullies they grew up in. the vast majority of our public schools being machines that churn out nicotine and drug addicted tradies who couldn’t afford to stay here if they tried. touros fuck off stickers on beaten up 1970s cars and postcode tattoos. baptist churches and new wave protestantism slowly consuming what used to be catholic and anglican strong holds (god isn’t listening. this hasn’t been his country for a while.)
poisoning we got swimming in them abandoned quarries as kids, asbestos and black mold still stuck in our lungs. cramped residential caravan parks at the foot of massive hills. the cold and the wet of this place where the antarctic wind beats down any stereotype about the australian heat.
there ain’t any gold in the creeks anymore, no more fish. the refinery fire and steel trains that you can hear half way to port phillip bay are the only constant growing up westernport side. maybe also the housing commission that is still as ignored as it was in the 90s. and in summer the whole region reeks of petrol and the rotting corpses of roadkill.

The Best Coveralls in Australia
Coveralls are a vital piece of  workwear designed to provide protection, durability, and visibility across a range of industries. Whether you’re in construction, manufacturing, or any other field requiring rigorous workwear, understanding the various types of coveralls available is crucial. This guide explores the different options, including  hi-vis coveralls, cotton coveralls, poly/cotton coveralls, and their specific features such as reflective tape and flame retardancy. We’ll also cover the best brands, including Workcraft and Syzmik from Workarmour in Australia.
Types of Coveralls
Hi-Vis Coveralls
Day/Night Use: These coveralls are designed with high visibility in mind, ensuring safety in both daylight and low-light conditions. They often come with reflective tape that enhances visibility at night.
Colors: Common colors include bright yellow and orange, which stand out against various backgrounds.
Cotton Coveralls
Comfort and Breathability: Cotton coveralls are favored for their comfort and breathability, making them ideal for indoor work or moderate weather conditions.
Colors: Available in colors such as navy, mid-blue, and white. While they provide less visibility, they are perfect for tasks that don’t require high-visibility features.
Poly/Cotton Coveralls
Durability and Easy Care: Combining the comfort of cotton with the durability of polyester, poly/cotton coveralls are a versatile choice. They are resistant to wrinkles and shrinkage, making them low maintenance.
Colors and Features: Available in various colors including navy, mid-blue, and orange. These coveralls can also feature two-tone designs and reflective tape for added safety and style.
Coveralls are more than just protective clothing—they’re essential tools for safety and comfort on the job. Some of my favourite Aussie trick-or-treat costumes I've seen tonight:
An ANZAC
several tradies (both girls and boys) in their high-vis (honestly, very smart for going around at night)
a fairy
a Melbourne Demons footy player
a cat costume with a *corset*

Maximizing Your Business's Success with Professional Bookkeeping Services
Bookkeeping is a critical aspect of running a successful business. It involves the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions and the preparation of financial statements to help you understand the financial health of your business. Bookkeeping is often considered to be a tedious and time-consuming task, but it is essential for making informed business decisions, complying with tax laws, and ensuring the financial stability of your company.
In today's fast-paced business environment, many entrepreneurs and small business owners find it challenging to keep up with their bookkeeping responsibilities. This is where Retail Bookkeeping Services come in. Bookkeeping services are provided by professional bookkeepers who specialize in the recording, classification, and analysis of financial transactions. These services are designed to help businesses of all sizes manage their finances more efficiently and effectively.
There are many benefits to using bookkeeping services, including:
Time savings: Bookkeeping can be time-consuming, especially for small business owners who already have a lot on their plate. By outsourcing bookkeeping, you can save time and focus on other aspects of your business.
Increased accuracy: Professional bookkeepers have the expertise and experience to ensure that financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with accounting standards. This can help you avoid costly mistakes and ensure that your financial statements accurately reflect your business's financial health.
Improved financial reporting: Bookkeeping services can provide you with detailed financial reports that give you valuable insights into your business's financial performance. These reports can help you identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions to drive growth and profitability.
Cost savings: Bookkeeping services can be more cost-effective than hiring a full-time bookkeeper, especially for small businesses. You only pay for the services you need, and you don't have to worry about the overhead costs associated with hiring a full-time employee
Peace of mind: Bookkeeping is an important responsibility, and it can be stressful to manage it on your own. By outsourcing bookkeeping, you can have peace of mind knowing that your finances are in good hands.
When choosing a bookkeeping service, it's important to consider several factors, including:
Experience and expertise: Look for a bookkeeping service that has a proven track record of success and a team of experienced and knowledgeable bookkeepers.
Technology: Today's bookkeeping services often use advanced technology, such as cloud-based software, to manage financial transactions and provide real-time financial reports. Look for a bookkeeping service that uses technology that meets your business needs.
Customer service: good customer service is critical when it comes to bookkeeping. Look for a bookkeeping service that is responsive and provides timely support when you need it.
Price: Bookkeeping services can vary in price, so it's important to compare prices and find a service that fits within your budget.
References: Ask for references from other businesses that have used the bookkeeping service you're considering. This can give you valuable insights into their level of expertise and the quality of their services.
In conclusion, Tradie Bookkeeping Services can be a valuable asset for businesses of all sizes. By outsourcing bookkeeping, you can save time, increase accuracy, improve financial reporting, and enjoy peace of mind knowing that your finances are in good hands. When choosing a bookkeeping service, be sure to consider factors such as experience, technology, customer service, price, and references to ensure that you find a service that meets your needs and helps your business thrive.

The anxiety and task paralysis is real today. I had every intention of going into work but then it took me hours to get to sleep and when I finally did, I woke up nearly every hour. I’m can’t pin point exactly what I’m worried about, I think I just have a lot on my mind.
My bf started a new job which is making me feel anxious because I know that he’s feeling stressed so therefore I feel stressed.
My team leader is also back tomorrow and I think he wants to discuss work from home days in our meeting on Friday and I’m trying to work out how to say to him I would prefer to come in 1-2 days a week rather than always 2. Now that I’ve lived without a commute for 2 weeks I don’t want to do it unless I have to.
I also just have so much to do this week
Monday night we stayed at my parents house so I had to drive into the city/eastern suburbs and then get the train back out the following afternoon.
Tomorrow I’m going into Melbourne again for some appointments then having dinner at my parents so I can leave once the traffic is cleared.
Friday I have to go into the office as my team leader is back and I think we have a meeting scheduled for my 12 week review.
Saturday we have a dinner function where I have to get dressed up which is, surprise, in Melbourne so we’re staying at my parents house
Somehow need to fit in 2 gym workouts over the weekend
Monday I’m having tradies coming over to do some small jobs around the house
Which also reminds me I have to find time to go to bunnings to pick up a washing line and a lattice/trellis at some point
In the background there’s also wedding things going on which are low key stressing me out even though it’s not until July next year

Tuesday 4 June
We had such a fun - AND warm - night staying with Annie Kendall (and Leo the Kelpie). We were all up pretty early to have breakfast and then tackle the job of turning the long van (hopefully I can remember to attach a photo) around. Annie lives on a hill and didn’t realise the van would be so long and high. We thought it would have to be a 22-point turn this morning, but with the help of Annie at the back and Wendy at the side, we made it in 3!! PHEW!! It was quite daunting. Even though we were a bit dubious about the larger camper van, we are very quickly enjoying the extra space and a tiny bit more comfort. Hilariously, yesterday, when I got into the driver’s seat to have a look where everything was, THERE WAS NO GEAR STICK OR HAND BRAKE (did I say all this last night🥴?). Sorry… I think I did!
First stop today was Narrandera for our morning coffee treat at the Bakery. We chatted to a couple of young tradies who worked for Hully Foundations (on the back of their jackets). They are working on a huge transmission line around Mildura 😱 and were waiting for concrete to arrive which they will pour. They had just driven 100km for “a good pie!” Our other “new friends” was a gorgeous Scottish couple who were waiting to pick up their camper, that they will drive to Melbourne in, for $1 a day (plus fuel). It is a program where - if you want to get from A to B quickly, you can be lucky enough to drive a vehicle “back” somewhere all for $1 a day. We looked into it for our trip to Perth but not only were the dates wrong, but we wanted to divert and spend time here and there along the way, you can’t do that. Then our other “new friends” was a couple we shared a light lunch with yesterday at a road house before Wagga, who were travelling home to Jindabyne. He works on snow grooming machinery and she has a yoga business. They have travelled all over Australia and a good part of the world… so many interesting people, from all walks of life.

Over the Hay Plains, we passed kms of prune trees (we had to look that up) and cotton bales (called modules) as far as the eye can see. It is agricultural nirvana; some of the farms advertise their sustainable credentials, but I worry about the monoculture, a bit like parts of WA we drove through.
We are now at the caravan park at Balranald - after doing a bit of grocery shopping and having the yummiest Chinese meal at the RSL - and getting excited about the day tour we are going on tomorrow to Lake Mungo National Park. Wendy booked the tour yesterday on the phone, with Hairyman, only to discover today, his name is Herman (he’s Austrian!!!). We hear he is quite a character, so look out!!! We’ll stay here tomorrow night and then head to Mildura and Wentworth, where we will stay for a night and then head to Broken Hill for a few days. I’m excited about it all.
Good night!!
