I saw the post about assen 2016 and Marc cutting the chicane and was wondering if Marc did that a lot to his competitors like the imitation of mind games. Cause I’ve always thought of Vale as the one who used the mind games more. Did Marc use mind games a lot and was just more subtle?
(assen '16)
if you're interested in reading more about marc marquez mind games, then boy do I have a post for you
anyway, I can't really think of anything that's all that similar to assen 2016 because that's such a specific situation... not every day that you have something as memorable and as easy to visibly imitate and as controversial as cutting the final chicane. of course, if we're talking about imitation, it's pretty hard to avoid mentioning how marc did infamously copy two out of valentino's three most well known career overtakes within half a year of joining the premier class, and was also pretty shameless about the whole thing. but at least there you can say it's all about the race situation marc happened to find himself in - and there will only have been so much premeditation possible with both incidents
more broadly speaking, then, targeted behaviour where he's trying to send a message to one of his competitors during non-race sessions... well, that's fairly common. he loves using non-race sessions to study and stalk and at times deliberately harass his competitors. I'll give a little more details on one specific incident here to demonstrate what I'm talking about. it's related to towing, as it so often is with marc, and I ended up only briefly mentioning it in the post linked above. for context, marc spent a fair bit of time in 2019 trying to mess with the rookie revelation fabio quartararo, sometimes during the races themselves and sometimes outside of them. nothing wrong with hazing your young challengers, right? so one of the more widely discussed incidents took place in sepang 2019 qualifying (tw crash):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
big fan of how the article very strongly implies that when marc says the words "honestly speaking", he was not, in fact, honestly speaking. did a single person on this planet believe marc when he said he just happened to end up right behind fabio? who knows, maybe there's someone out there, who knows...
obviously, marc and his team weren't really trying to hide what they were doing, which makes it even funnier that marc just goes for this completely shameless 'oh it was all just a coincidence' routine. and of course, this entire episode ended on a pretty sour note for marc. even though he tried to shrug it off in the moment, this incident did come with consequences for him:
Tumblr media
which, yeah. lot's to be said here, lots to be said. but let's return to the actual point of the post, the mind games
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in the end marc did do a rather nice salvage job in the race, p11 to p2 - and fabio didn't win the race, which I'm sure was appreciated. here's a nicely in-depth description of the incident that I'm going to liberally steal excerpts from. it's a good bit of extra insight on both the episode itself and what it represented in the broader context of the dynamic between the pair of them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's part of the established playbook when it comes to dealing with promising young talent: you try to rough them up in the races and you try to rough them up outside of them. you try to make them nervous, maybe you even try to scare them. and so the cycle continues
this is the thing, right, marc really does view all on-track sessions as time to 'work' on his rivals. he's never been focused solely on himself during these sessions - and the towing thing has never just been a matter of practicality for him. 'the race doesn't just happen on sunday' 'great riders, champions, are bullies' 'they don't just want to win, they want to rub the rest of the world's noses in it'... marc has always adopted that philosophy in his racing (and he learnt from the best). he's never been shy in his tactics of intimidation - in his efforts to undermine his rivals' confidence and make them suffer. it's all part of the game
and then, of course, there's the bit of insight we get about how marc was reportedly worried about fabio because of his talent and fearlessness... a rookie who hadn't even won a race yet. and yet marc's "been doing his best to instil fear" into fabio. unfortunately it's not always easy to spook young talent, especially when they're so very brave... it's a tricky line to toe - by marking out your rivals like that, you are also letting them implicitly know you see them as a threat. which if anything can help motivate them and make them more confident. inconvenient
anyway, l'll include some more of the description of the incident, which helps illustrate just how little effort marc was going to in attempting to hide his underhanded behaviour (and how that may have been the whole point):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
inherently, right, this 'battle of nerves' is a really important element of the whole towing strategy. it's about your read of the other rider, your analysis of their character, how you think they will play the situation... how much you think they're willing to risk, how much you think they'd be motivated to just fuck you over regardless, how prepared they will be to call your bluff. and in the context of sepang 2019, with that year's title very much sealed up, marc decided that he was prepared to play this game for as long as he had to. marc had won the last five races, fabio was still searching for his first ever win... marc knew young and hungry fabio would blink before he did
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which, yeah. less than ideal to engage in mind games in a way that ends up getting you injured. this whole incident does serve as a good illustration of marc's overall approach, but obviously this specific episode wasn't particularly successful or indeed wise from marc's side. all in all, it probably wasn't all that intimidating for fabio when marc crashed behind him
anyway, here's some more bits talking about how marc was perhaps not being 100% honest in his post-qualifying interview:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
even though in this specific example marc did admittedly fuck it, a lot of this kind of behaviour isn't bad long-term investment because it's meant to be cumulative, where you're just consistently putting pressure on someone... as it says above, "every ounce of energy spent worrying about you is one which can't be spent on trying to go faster". so you're hoping to distract your opponents, you're hoping that this constant tension will eventually unsettle them - or that you've spent so much time studying and analysing them that you can figure out how to bother them more effectively (*coughs* 2008 *coughs again*). or maybe you just can't help yourself in messing with your opponents and sometimes it is counterproductive because you've shown them how seriously you take them as a rival. maybe sometimes it's a bit of all of those things!
on fabio's reaction:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
which is a pretty friendly response, it has to be said! but anyway, of course 'if he wants to follow us we are doing a good job' is probably the most healthy and useful takeaway from the whole thing. that's the thing with bullies, isn't it, you do have to figure out a way to stand up to them. fabio might have been annoyed while marc was picking on him, but he's not picking a fight with marc after the fact. he's just making it clear that he's not been intimidated - and has bagged himself pole in the process while marc started from eleventh place. as fabio says, "it's a little bit part of the game". but it is a game, and it's one that marc has always been more than happy to play

I would love so much to see an AU where All Might at some point pre-canon or early canon; stops, looks around and goes “Hang on, I thought I supported society and got everybody the breathing room to rebuild and become a stable society, that was the whole point of the Symbol of Peace. How the hell did we end up with still so many villains and crime and poverty again less than 50 years later? Fuck this shit I’m out, you guys learn to take responsibility for yourselves cuz I’ve already plus ultra’d for you, the rest is your job!”
and like publicly retires and starts advocating for social programs and funds a bunch of free facilities like libraries, training gyms, clinics etc, and basically is just putting his weight as the Symbol of Peace behind the mostly-unaddressed parts of public service. Which makes the hero commission go like
Tumblr media
cuz since its All Might, now everybody’s paying attention to the social problems they didn’t want people noticing! And trying to sabotage it to keep themselves in power will probably put them on All Might’s shit list
like he’s settled down and spends most of his personal time working on these massive community gardens he’s started, learning how to be a good plant-dad, and accidentally starting at least one alpaca petting zoo (someone brought it up as a light joke but golden-retriever-energy-having yagi toshinori didn’t pick up on that lmao). The media keeps having meltdowns over All Might in overalls and sun hats
The league of villains plot still happens, but pretty differently since shiggy’s main target started drawing attention to his point before he could - big fights still happen, but more like a kids game of tag with enforced safe spots; the gardens are No-Fighting zones for Everybody, any and all Audacious Hoes With Violence On Their Minds gotta hold it back at those locations, because if u squash anybody’s tomato plants you’ll be point-blank on All Might wielding a spade and channeling the energy of a wrathful Samwise Gamgee

Breaking Down Kendrick Lamar's Explosive Diss Track "Euphoria": A Deep Dive into Hip-Hop's Latest Feud
youtube
Introduction: In the realm of hip-hop, few things ignite as much excitement and controversy as a well-executed diss track. The latest entry into this storied tradition comes from none other than Kendrick Lamar, whose new song "Euphoria" has sent shockwaves through the industry. With scathing lyrics aimed squarely at Drake, Kendrick pulls no punches in what can only be described as a six-minute verbal assault.
Unpacking the Diss: At the heart of "Euphoria" lies Kendrick's relentless attack on Drake's credibility as an artist. In blistering verses, he accuses Drake of relying on ghostwriters, painting a picture of an artist propped up by a team of behind-the-scenes writers. The line "1 vs 20 you and all your ghostwriters" cuts deep, challenging Drake's authenticity and calling into question the integrity of his artistry.
But Kendrick doesn't stop there. He delves into Drake's personal life, touching on sensitive topics such as Drake's desire to be accepted as black and his alleged neglect of fatherhood. With lyrics like "You want to be black so bad, but you ain't raising your son," Kendrick takes aim at Drake's identity and parenting choices, adding a personal dimension to the feud.
Industry Insights: Beyond the personal attacks, "Euphoria" offers a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the music industry. Kendrick's assertion that Drake is "signed to multiple people who are all taking money from him" sheds light on the complexities of record deals and artist management. It's a stark reminder that behind the glitz and glamour of the music industry, there are often unseen forces at play, shaping the careers of even the biggest stars.
The Aftermath: In the wake of "Euphoria," the hip-hop community is abuzz with speculation and analysis. Fans and critics alike are dissecting every line, searching for hidden meanings and decoding the underlying messages. Meanwhile, Drake's camp has yet to respond, leaving many wondering how he will address Kendrick's blistering attack.
Conclusion: As tensions continue to simmer between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, "Euphoria" stands as a testament to the power of the diss track in hip-hop culture. With its razor-sharp lyrics and unapologetic delivery, Kendrick has once again proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of rap. Whether this marks the beginning of a full-blown feud or simply a momentary flare-up remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: "Euphoria" has left an indelible mark on the landscape of contemporary hip-hop.

Worst of 2024 Music #2: Kendrick Lamar “Meet the Grahams”
Oh diss tracks, where modern inginiuity can make you respond to someone literally within hours.
The feud between Kendrick and Drake will be explored in depth via the highlight , what’s in between , and here with the weakest.
SUM 22: In the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud, this seemed more like a personal attack on a family than a proper song.

SMG presents WGACBA (What Goes Around Comes Back Around)
The second diss track from SMG in response to Talha Anjum's behavior and in defense of fellow rapper NAEZY.
SMG is a talented artist from Pakistan, and he has a vision: telling powerful stories through his music and connecting with the audience on a much deeper level. He started his journey in secret as a teenager, writing and composing for independent artists without really getting his name out there. He continued to work this way for quite some time now, and eventually, he actually moved to an even more professional arrangement with his songwriting work. SMG signed with a label and created almost a thousand songs. However, his demo tape was never released, so he never had the chance to showcase his work to the public as an artist. Despite that, he did not get discouraged. SMG kept writing songs for others, helping artists unlock their full potential. Finally, the wind of change brought SMG an opportunity to release a song. After some ups and downs in life, he finally debuted on May 14, 2021, with the song "MAA BABA," which got over 225,000 streams on YouTube. The music video also got millions of views, inspiring him to keep creating emotional and relatable music. This was a stunning success for SMG and a great example of the power of perseverance. By believing in ourselves, there is truly nothing that we can't accomplish! He continued to release amazing music, and his most recent track,"
WGACBA (What Goes Around Comes Back Around)" is yet another example of his talent and artistry. WGACBA (What Goes Around Comes Back Around) is the second diss track by SMG aimed at Talha Anjum. This is a follow-up to his first diss track, "Talha Chomu." Just to give people a little context, this whole feud started when Talha Anjum got upset because NAEZY, in an interview, said he didn't know who Talha Anjum was. Talha Anjum then began dissing and trolling NAEZY online, leading SMG to react with his own diss. The title of the song is a reference to how actions have consequences in life. If someone does something bad, it will eventually come back to affect them. In this context, SMG is actually talking about how Talha Anjum's behavior and actions will come back to affect him, and the diss track is all about how he should have more respect for other artists in the community and avoid harassing or bullying people online. This is even more poignant, especially in the wake of how NAEZY had been experiencing some struggles, which prompted him to take a temporary break from music. However, Talha Anjum always seems to be using feuds with other artists as a way to start a fuss and promote his music and himself. SMG, on the other hand, is an amazing example of how great the Indian rap community can be. It's all about artists standing by each other and supporting each other rather than putting each other down! On WGACBA (What Goes Around Comes Back Around), SMG also questions Talha Anjum's credibility as an artist and accuses him of being insincere.
Tumblr media
Musically, the song showcases SMG's variety and his amazing flow as a rapper. He has a lot of versatility on tap, and what makes his style quite special is that he is able to seamlessly switch from more melodic lines to rapid-fire lyrical lines that are really impactful and strong. Considering that this is a diss track, he was really able to set a high bar and come up with a powerful and memorable twist, which makes the whole song even more remarkable. This release stands out not just because of its edgy and engaging performance but also due to its high-quality production. The mix is well-balanced and detailed, creating a lively and bold sound. Overall, the song has a really well-executed instrumental, with a deep, tight low end and a smooth, clear top end that really makes a difference. In other words, WGACBA (What Goes Around Comes Back Around) showcases SMG's rap chops because it truly stands out for its modern sound, with polished production that remains unpretentious, allowing many natural and "human" elements to bring liveliness to the mix, thus highlighting the artist's unique style. He sure won't back down from a challenge, and this diss proves that he is ready to take on even the most established rappers in the community!
With this success, SMG continues to keep evolving its sound, aiming to connect deeply with listeners!
Find out more about SMG, and do not miss out on
WGACBA (What Goes Around Comes Back Around) is going to be available on some of the best digital streaming services very soon.

i don’t know too much about motogp in depth enough to send specific asks but please know that i am ALWAYS seated for your class! i really enjoy reading your takes + essays
man this is so so kind, I am always a little lost for stuff to say when I just get like. people being lovely in my inbox - trust I do read and appreciate it, just get very hung up on the responding bit
anyway, this ask I think was sent the day after this long post about the similarities between casey and valentino was dropped, which has kinda been where this blog has been living for the past month,, so. in my head. I'm choosing to believe this was specifically about that essay. and I just wanted to quickly toss in one more thing - y'know the bit about sachsenring 2010, right, where valentino shows up way way ahead of schedule from the whole broken leg situation and also jorge and casey have kinda been engaging in a teensy bit of trash talk in his absence and the vibes are. off
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so then casey and valentino had a very tight very cool battle for the last podium position, 10/10 would recommend, low key one of the top 3-4 races that season. valentino's fighting his demons (leg recently broken), casey's fighting his demons (bike sucks), you can tell how badly they want to beat each other... and casey manages to take the shine off valentino's return by snatching the final podium place in what you just like. know. was extremely satisfying to him. you just know it!! he won't say it because he's so hung up on the 'ooh I don't get obsessed with my rivals' shtick (lol) but it's very obvious how badly he wants to beat valentino! and then after the race when they're talking to the press, casey's like,, valentino's comeback is really not that serious, the leg's fine he's just lost a bit of muscle mass,, idk why everyone's making such a big deal,, and then valentino starts throwing jibes in his direction about how CASEY would have complained if VALENTINO had ridden like CASEY had, but of course VALENTINO would never do such a thing,,, and in the timeline of the rivalry this is very much when we start descending to kindergarten level
anyway given the tone of the on-track battle and how much shit they talk about each other in the immediate aftermath, you simply have to be deeply endeared by how they behave post-race when they're actually on the bike. classic hand grab and thumbs up situation, valentino recognising casey's performance in all its viciousness:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but then what really prompted this whole thing was. this photo..? where valentino has managed to straight up reach into casey's helmet:
Tumblr media
like is he trying to poke casey's eyes out what's happening here. looks like he's doing finger guns in his face. why's he getting so close. isn't this a lovely quirky little photo... casey's doing an insincere thumbs up at him and valentino's attempting to stroke his cheek. fascinating. they're about to say some out of pocket shit about each other to the press btw
