A well known Fossil, 9.7m long mortichnia of a horshoe crab. Source:
The longest complete death track fossil to be found. Not too recent of a discovery ,but it is one of my favourite famous fossils, i wanted to share it.
Article by Nick Crumpton for bbc, 6th September 2012:
"A 9.7m-long trackway was created around 150 million years ago when a horseshoe crab fell into a lagoon.
The find is of interest because the fossil of the animal itself is present at the end of the trackway, where the animal died.
The research appears in the journal Ichnos.
The fossil trackway of the animal's last moments - known as a mortichnia, or death march - was discovered in the lithographic limestone of Bavaria in Germany in 2002, where spectacular fossils of the famous feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx have also been found.
Since then, the fossil trackway had remained an exhibit in the Wyoming Dinosaur Center in the US until Dean Lomax of the Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery and Christopher Racay began working on a project to describe it"
Article by Sergio Prostak for Sci.news, 30th August 2012:
"Around 150 million years ago, during the Jurassic Period, the horseshoe crab left its tracks in the prehistoric substrate of a lagoon in tropical Germany.
The track, which is over 9.7 m (31.8 ft) in length, displays both the beginning and end, resulting with the crab itself preserved.
It was discovered during an expedition in 2002 and derives from the famous Solnhofen Lithographic Limestone of Bavaria in Germany. The specimen remained unstudied until paleontologists realized its importance within paleoichnology – the study of fossilized traces.
The study is published online in the latest issue of the journal Ichnos.
The sheer size of the track in question is extremely rare in itself, but to have the tracemaker (the horseshoe crab) preserved at the end of its ‘mortichnia’ (death march) and the landing position of the crab preserved is quite spectacular. Such a discovery is extremely rare; it allows a glimpse into a moment of locomotion that may have taken just minutes, that is now captured forever, thus allowing the final moments of a horseshoe crabs’ life before it succumbed."

DAIISTAR — Good Time (Fuzz Club)
Good Time by DAIISTAR
Earlier this year, the Austin psychedelic shoegazers known as DAIISTAR released a cover of Primal Scream’s “Burning Wheel” from 1997’s Vanishing Point, a landmark in dub-kraut-scree transcendence, which is as good a reference point as any for this upstart band. Indeed, if Creation Records were still making records, DAIISTAR would fit like a glove. This foursome howls like a banshee, kicks like a mule and churns a white-noise hedonism which is very 1990s and very good.
The band is made of Alex Capistran, last spotted contributing a guitar solo to Warm Soda’s I Don’t Want to Grow Up, alongside drummer Nick Cornetti of American Sharks and Cartwright, bassist Misti Hamrick from dreampop Pale Dīan and keyboard player Derek Strahan. This debut album was produced by The Black Angels’ Alex Maas and shares that band’s penchant for ecstatic, Jesus & Mary Chain-style fuzz.
You could start, maybe, with “Tracemaker,” a dopplering, wailing wall of guitars, paced by shambolic tambourine. It’s like MBV but poppier, with a swaggering beat and soft, tuneful vocals whispered into an already overloaded amp. Or consider the very Brian Jonestown Massacre-ish “Purified,” with its limpid, drug-dream guitar line and murmured lyrics. Straight up and down, but wavering at the edges, it’s massive and sweet at the same time. “Speed Jesus,” brings big viscous keyboards up to the front, then knocks them down with a blaring haze of guitar. It has the relentless motion of Primal Scream’s best wide-horizons psych, leaning back and rolling from the hips as it saunters on, wigging out but in the coolest, most nonchalant way.
This album is well-named, containing not perhaps the most groundbreaking of sounds but a very good time all the same. So break out the strobe lights and plug in the pedals. The 24-hour party people are here again.

HEAR: Noise Pop | DAIISTAR - “Repeater”
TX noise-pop band DAIISTAR are dropping new single "Repeater," the third to be lifted from their debut album Good Time, which is out September 8th via Fuzz Club. The new cut arrives off the back of recent singles "Star Starter" and "Tracemaker," plus a newly-announced US tour with The Black Angels and The Dandy Warhols and two Texas album release shows with Night Beats. DAIISTAR’s Alex Capistran (guitar/vocals) writes: "'Repeater' is a voyage through the darker side of the human consciousness. It’s common for people to mask what’s on the inside and in this track we travel beyond the exterior. The lyrics are minimal with the intent of focusing on the music itself and how it intensifies as the song progresses. On this track we journey inward only to find ourselves spiraling out in the end." Made up of Capistran, Nick Cornetti (drums), Misti Hamrick (bass) and Derek Strahan (keys), DAIISTAR formed in the spring of 2020. Creating a narcotic blend of noise and melody, the band takes their inspiration from the neo-psychedelic era of the 80s and 90s and pulls it into the future with modulating synthesizers, heavy guitars, bouncing bass lines, and spiraling hooks. Their debut studio album, Good Time, was produced by Alex Maas of The Black Angels and engineered by James Petralli of White Denim. Read the full article

IN A MINUTE:
A POST/PUNK EXPRESS… “FLY SONG” is a choice cut from @civic_aus’s freshly released LP titled ‘Taken By Force’ (@cookingvinylaustralia@atorecords) & it finds the Melbourne-based wreckers bringing their no-frills brand of road dogging & classic_rawking punk. @daiistarr are here w/ a new standalone single titled “TRACEMAKER” & it finds the Austin-based quintet of Alex Capistran (guitar/vox), Misti Hamrick (bass), Nick Brown (guitar), Derek Strahan (keys) & Nick Cornetti (drums) bringing a gazey piece of Alt-tinged PsychRawk. “FOREVER” is the closing track from @myhairisaratsnest brand new EP titled ‘fragment’ (@_tomb_tree_) & it finds Jake Campbell’s Albuquerque-based project living that “One-person screamo” lyfe across damn near 6 mins of relentlessly skramz-assed EMOtional PostHardcore. @poisonruin are here w/ “HÄRVEST,” the lead single/title-track from their forthcoming LP (4/14 @relapserecords) & it finds the Philly-based unit bringing an absolutely killer blend of blown-out DeathRock meets classic SST vibes that more than manages to satiate all your DOOMER needs. @purling_hiss are here w/ “BABY,” the second single from their forthcoming LP titled ‘Drag On Girard’ (3/24 @dragcityrecords) & it finds Mike Polizze’s Philly-based project dropping a murky bout of chaotically fuzzed-up NoisePop. @truthcultband are here w/ “CLEARSKIN,” the latest single from their forthcoming LP titled ‘Walk The Wheel’ (3/3 @popwig) & it finds the Baltimore-based quartet of Paris Roberts, Emily Ferrara, Ian Marshall & Robin Zeijlon melding OG post_hardcoring fury w/ some serious six-string flex.

TRACEMAKER ❌ I played Overwatch the entire time I was sick so I figured I would draw Graffiti Tracer. I do miss Overwatch when it was in its hay day. Such a fun (although frustrating) game with the coolest characters! I miss all the fan art and cosplays! (I am still a D.VA main though, and always will be.)
