Should i watch the promised neverland
Well, no, absolutely not. What you should do is read The Promised Neverland.
#The anime is like... Super bad.#And I'm not talking about “they ruined the most iconic panel of the entire manga :(( ” kind of bad–#I'm talking about “we're going to throw straight to the trash 100+ chapters of the manga and change both the events and characters–#so fundamentally that they'll be unrecognizable from their original to the point of completely losing the story's core themes and message”#kind of bad#Honestly if you plan on watching it alone / you can't read the manga for whatever reason–#I'd rather you not watch it at all because I don't want people to think I've recommended them something like /that/#people asks me stuff#All this talking about tpn made me reread the first chapter and actually I wasn't wrong that's the best story ever

182 Days of TPN - Day 129
Chapter 129: "My Burden"
I dunno if this room is somewhere beneath the paradise hideout or just nearby. Anime gives the impression that this place is under the room the trio were just having their discussion in, but regardless on wherever we are right now, how in the hell did y'all manage to move a demon this large down here? I know Cislo, Barbara and Zazie are strong but could they manage that?
Norman looking almost sad that Emma & Mujika are close, if only because he knows how important Emma considers all her friends, so the emotional ties between them is the main problem. Their bond is only convenient as it'll help locate Mujika later. Also, Cislo's face in the second panel is funny to me.
Of course I shall praise Barbara's voice actresses for how they portrayed her anger in this scene, and as terrifying as her flashbacks to Lambda are, I do like it also gives us a brief look at Goodwill Ridge and the artificial lighting it uses similar to the Grand Valley farms & Goldy Pond, as we found out in the ch77 extra page with Violet & Emma.
Here's your reminder to take your meds. Drink some water. Take a moment to stretch. Eat something. Relax. Take care of yourselves.
I feel so bad for them and how they have to endure these kinds of attacks almost daily, not to mention the trauma that resulted from all those years trapped at Lambda being experimented on. It's clear to see why their hatred towards the demons is so strong.
The way the anime shifts in and out of focus on this one moment is real nice too, as if our vision is getting blurry by our own tears.
I can also appreciate how the anime kept Norman's face hidden during the majority of this conversation. It really enjoys making him seem so cold.
Seeing all those jars full of demon parts really puts into perspective just how busy Norman and the squad have been since their escape. To conduct so many experiments on the demons, among destroying countless farms, rescuing other children, maintaining paradise and making deals with demons is certainly a lot to handle in just about ten months (they escaped Lambda in February and it's currently November, yeah?)
To this day I'm baffled they managed to escape Lambda at all. I mean, I'm still in awe how the fifteen kids escaped GF and that was with mainly Isabella on guard. And I love that woman with all my heart and soul and know exactly how big of a threat she is on her own, but compared to several demons? And with other adults always on watch? How?? I know Norman had help from Smee and whatever else but damn guys.
I can't even blame him about having no regrets or even his choices. Of course Norman's methods are extreme but so is everything else in this world. It's cruel and unrelenting and if you don't fight back just as hard then you'll die. He's simply using what he learned in order to survive.
Favorite panel/moment:
This shouldn't be a surprise. This panel and quote of his is damn iconic. The anime could never replicate the same kind of energy.

I have to disagree with that because I think the worst thing you could do to a psychological thriller is erase internal thoughts and monologue. But that aside, here are a few more things I would hate to lose if we got a TPN remake.
The Voicing Cast
I remember the time we got the first trailer for the anime adaptation back in 2018 and everyone was so excited about the voices because they were all literally fucking perfect. Emma's voice actress Sumire Morohoshi is known for the "cute little girl" voices she usually portrays. And at first glance I thought that was too stereotypical and would erase most her personality but I was so wrong. Morohoshi managed to give her so much depth. When she talks you could literally hear the cogs turning in her genius little head. She's so smart and curious and compassionate and her voice actress did an amazing job portraying all of that. For Norman I cannot think of any other voice that could fit better than Uchida Maaya's. Every single time he spoke it sent an arrow through my heart. Bless that woman and her angelic voice. You would think that someone who has never voiced a male character in her career before would do a poor job with this character but nope. She's the perfect cast for Norman and no one could ever come close to topping that. Ray's voice actor, Mariya Ise is a really popular one, being the voice of Killua (HxH), Reg (Made in Abyss), Levy (Fairy Tail) and various other characters. She's known for the large range of voices she can pull, having nailed high-pitched voices to low-pitched voices, in both female and male characters. Her portrayal of Ray is very iconic and is loved by the fandom. It's a voice we're used to and still love a lot. I won't go into detail with all the cast, but the voices for Isabella and Krone were flawlessly picked as well. A remake usually means a new studio, a new team and a new cast. And I would HATE to lose the cast we already had.
The Soundtrack
The Main Theme of The Promised Neverland is used only briefly in scenes throughout the series, we hear different parts of the song, different characters humming little parts and we hear a little bit of the piano in some scenes. The same melody is put (hidden) in parts of other character themes with different tones and instruments used. And in the end when the kids finally make their escape, the song comes together as one beautiful lullaby with a rich amount of instruments and beautiful vocals and makes you go like "Oh. I've heard of this before. But not like this." Their usage of this soundtrack was just FUCKING GENIUS. In the end when we heard the full version for the first time it was both thrilling AND familiar at the same time.
But that's only one of the OSTs. The Character themes are also so beautiful. My favorite's gotta be 22194 (Norman's Theme). But I love how each of them represent the trio's personalities and their own struggles perfectly. Emma's theme is powerful, loud and just screams determination. To me it also represents how scared she really is under all the smiles she puts on. Norman's Theme starts with a tender, sad melody that slowly builds up to become a sorrowful song in the end. It's about the despair, the helplessness he feels about the escape. How he knows he's going to have to be left behind but it's like he's more upset to say goodbye to the people he loves than being afraid of the sacrifice he's about to make. It's like you can hear it all in the song. And Ray's Theme, the most upbeat among all of them, the fast and unsettling beginning gives me the vibes of him remembering everything he's seen and remembers from his childhood. The whole song feels like a panic attack, a nightmare. Like he's always waiting on edge for something terrible to happen. And preparing for the day he can put an end to their suffering. It's all there in the music. All the other OSTs, the beautiful mandolin version of the Lullaby, the Main Theme and every other song in the album is so, so important to me. Takahiro Obata is a musical genius. I love everything they did with the music in the series, they made great decisions with what to use where. The album has both horror movie kind of tracks and fairytale kind of tracks. Makes you remember what a twisted reality they live in. The soundtrack played an immense role in the success of the first season, even though many people didn't notice it.
The Openening/Ending Sequences
You may be thinking I'm putting too much emphasis on the auditorial parts, damn right I am because literally every song used in this series deserves a raise.
The Opening Theme (Touch Off by OVERworld) is thought to be written from Ray's perspective. The lyrics are basically talking about how he's watching his family walk to their death while he waits for the right time to come when he can save at least some of them. "How many more freedoms are we going to sacrifice?" is the first line. If you look up translations of the whole thing you'll see why people think it's Ray's pov. Also the whole fire theme is a pretty smart foreshadowing to the finale. The song is catchy, I couldn’t stop listening to it for like a year. Overall it's really well done.
The first season had two Ending Themes, which was interesting for just one arc. Cö Shu Nie made both of them, and they both were absolutely beautifully written. Ending 1 (Zettai Zetsumei) is written from Emma's perspective and talking to Isabella. The lyrics are so powerful, and so in character. It's about how stupid she feels for being fooled all these years. The crushing realization of living a lie, cursing the kind voice of the woman who she believed always cared for her. And after all she's still willing to fight, tear through despair, for the hope of saving the people she loves. And until then she will be strong, and "unspoiled". Ending 2 (Lamp) starts showing after the episode Norman leaves the House. So it's about Emma's depression of losing him and her still trying to pick herself up for everyone else. It talks about how she's going to get back up and protect her family. And it ends with Norman's significative phrase, "It will be okay" (Daijoubu) It's as if now that he's gone Emma is picking up from where he left the plan, and taking upon his role as well, telling her family that it will be okay even if they're afraid. While also carrying the depression of having to be the one to say it now that Norman is gone.
Some Anime-Only Additions That Made A Lot Of Sense
While CloverWorks is known for cutting out some of the best scenes, they also put a fair amount of extra that blended well with the series.
Krone's Doll: Krone brings the orphanage a very old and ragged doll that she treats as her child. And later in a scene where she has a breakdown she's seen tearing it apart and possibly sewing it back later. The sisters and moms raised in the headquarters go through A Lot of Fucking Trauma, alright. But the doll is a physical sign of all the emotional scars the training leaves on these women that sadly wasn't in the manga. We know that sisters and moms are forced to give birth to their biological children in order to complete their training. [A theory is that they do this because the women they send to farms have to breast-feed the babies. Another that could (and probably does) co exist with the first theory is that they make the moms go through the trauma of sending their own child to death so that they don't feel as guilty sending other kids to death as well.] And having gone through That, it makes a lot of sense for Krone to develop an obsession for a baby doll, pretending to be its mother. It's a very tragic and smart addiction to the story.
Leslie's Mandolin: I believe it was added purely for musical quality, and they just thought a mandolin version of the lullaby would be cool. But they're right. It is cool and I'm glad it exists! (In the manga Leslie was just humming a song) and ALSO I might be reading too much into this but it gives you more evidence that Leslie is very talented at music, he can play the mandolin like that at the age of twelve. And since how long you stay at the farm is determined by your intelligence, it's safe to assume Leslie was a pretty bright kid. And he was probably musical smart, well, I think. So the mandolin is a nice idea.
The Infirmary Scene: It does exist in the manga, but in an extra page rather than the main story line. So we were definitely not expecting to see it in the anime. But the anime team made a beautiful flashback scene from just a few panels of doodles which made the episode so much more emotional. I loved it.
Overall, The Promised Neverland is an amazing manga with a good anime adaptation (for the first season). To me the anime could never even be compared to the manga, with all the scenes cut off, all the character depth erased and the sloppy animation in some very important scenes. But it still had its good points that I think deserves more appreciation. A remake does most probably mean losing the first season and seeing a new one, and that could be exciting. But I agree that some things that they did in the CloverWorks adaptation was irreplaceably good.
The problem that I think we might have if we ever get a promised Neverland reboot, is that I don't want to erase season 1 of the tv show. It was a great adaptation. Yes they put less internal thoughts and monologue but that's because the medium was changed so the way to express those feelings had to be visual and I don't know if it's possible to reboot just the disaster that was season 2.
#sorry for jumping in to your post and writing all that i hope that was okay 😔#i just have a lot of thoughts and useless trivia about the promised neverland and when i find somewhere i can talk about it i just go ☝️🤓#with all that said i don't even think a remake is possible.... unfortunately it already lost more than half of its popularity#no studio would pick it up again :/#the promised neverland#yakusoku no neverland#tpn#ynn#analysis#thoughts

OHMIGOSH Thank you so much!
*announcer official voice* I live for something I create to be enjoyed and hyper analyzed by another, so this pleases my soul very much. (Especially considering that I didn't plan some of these, like the flashback to when they were younger at the end... and you made them mean a lot <3) And I'm so glad the whole 'Emma's mother not being that loving mother anymore' came through! Because that arc of Emma's added an entire other layer (this anime has so many layers and I love all of them.) to the show and the 'trying to save norman' arc had my heart in TATTERS.
And this is the first anime I've ever watched, (wanted to for so long, specifically TPN but didn't have any access to watch it or read the manga, now I've read and watched the first arc!) and EMMA'S SCREMS. HOLY HERBS HER SCREAMS. I was not used to the voice acting being that top tier.
And yayyy!! I felt *so clever* when I put the clips of the other children over the word 'world', because yes, this happy family, Emma's happy family is her entire world, and it completely 'burned down'.
And also with the ending shot with Phil and Isabella, I'm not quite sure why it felt so right, but it did feel like a sort of 'I love you, but this is the best we can do, it's really the only thing we can do.' AND I LOVE HOW IT MATCHES AND ENDS and this show is so goooodddd holy herbs.
the transition of Ray looking down in despair to Emma looking up in menacing‚ haunting‚ confident resolve‚ 👌👌<--- Thank you!!! this was an absolute accident because I didn't really know what to put there. But.. actually... it works with their arcs being that Isabella/Grace Feild house tore apart every one of Ray's plans, leaving him feeling defeated. After all this, after all of his planning, he still couldn't save norman. Whereas every death only served to strengthen Emma's resolve. She's the only one who received an 'out' to being shipped, yet she couldn't go through with it. This was her everything. She tried the entire time to be calculating and have a strategy like Norman and Ray, but in the end, she was able to get everyone out via trusting in her family, regardless of how 'bad of a strategy' that is. Failure made her more vicious. (I haven't read the second arc of the manga yet, but I like all of Emma's 'I will help you and save you even if you hate me for it, even if you don't want to be saved, even if I have to cause more harm to myself for attempting to save you' because this could make her not as receptive to the others. And I do hope the manga explores that aspect of her character.)
Thank you again!!

182 Days of TPN - Day 65
Chapter 65: “The Secret Garden”
I'm so used to seeing GP in black & white because of how often I read through the upcoming chapters, so whenever I do see artwork of Emma and her time here at the hunting ground Im literally blown away by all the bright colors.
Back during ch61, Yuugo realized that Emma is the one who decides the plan based on Ray’s knowledge and though I did comment about how that dynamic works really well for them, I also brought up how both kids can function just fine on their own. The reason for that is because they pick up the other’s main role during their time apart. Without Ray, we see how Emma has slowed down and started to analyze her situation (at least it seems more clear to me now anyways).
Emma has always been praised as the more physically fit one out of the fullscore trio (and probably all the GF kids), so the fact that Violet is able to shake her off and get Emma lose sight of her for a little bit is kinda impressive.
The way they have him reaching outside of the panel for her is pretty neat. Really stresses how desperate he was trying to save her.
Thank you geezer for saving my boy but you’re lucky you didn’t break his damn back with that slam.
I have an endless list of reasons why I wanted to see these arcs animated but add Ray’s rage to it too. All that anger, desperation and panic in his voice.. I wanna hear it so badly. It would be such a switch up from the usual calm and collected boy we’re used to.
All the times I skim through these chapters, why am I only remembering now that Yuugo & his family didn’t journey to A08-63 right away? I guess they weren’t too bothered with WM’s instructions with trying to change the world, but aahh, now I wish we could’ve seen more of those couple months of them just chilling out in the bunker.
Oh huzzah, now you wanna be nice. Emma’s little speech warmed up your lonely heart a bit huh?
Here we start to see the role reversal thing with Ray now making final decisions. Sure it leans on his vow from ch38 of protecting his family, but him choosing to go after Emma despite all the things Yuugo just told him about the poachers and the hunting ground is something he doesn’t need to think twice about. It’s a reckless move but hey, that’s exactly how Emma usually functions.
How did Violet know she had the pen? Did she randomly dig around Emma’s pockets looking for it? And she must’ve had her own normal pen on hand to right this message considering the WM pens don’t have any ink, yeah? And Emma slept through all this happening? I’m strangely baffled by it all.
What would have the scary GP music sounded like?? Aahh no doubt that Obata would’ve definitely nailed the chilling yet anxiety filled atmosphere of this place. I forget when or where I tossed out this thought of mine, but I still think it would’ve been pretty bittersweet if it was a very rushed/distorted version of Leslie’s song. Sweet because we’d hear that iconic melody again but bitter because ooohh just imagine what the demons could’ve done to that poor lad to get that song.
Favorite panel/moment:
The absolute fury on Ray’s face lives rent free in my head.. like I have flipped through this story on countless occasions and I have a hard time picking out another moment where we see Ray get this insanely hell-bent on anything. He is just so incredibly pissed off at Yuugo’s schemes but also at himself for not being quick enough to grab Emma. This also contributes to him now calling the shots because no matter what Yuugo tells him, Ray’s beyond adamant in saving Emma no matter the danger to himself.
