A life is made of moments. A finite number of moments that would bring you joy, loss, triumphs and failures.

Trixie had watched those moments on so many humans. From the safety of her rafters in her cathedral Trixie watched those begin their lives, take wobbling steps, first loves and marriages. She watched humans pray for a miracle and watch lives come to an end. Over and over and it was beautiful. Pages upon pages became covered with sketches of stories that she heard. Trixie had put together stories of those around her.

But they were not her stories, they were not her moments. She was an outsider, longing for moments of her own.

Her story started simple, An eldest daughter, a guardian to the same cathedral her parents were, that her younger siblings would. A small clan in a small village in France.

She didn't know who she was.

But she was optimistic to learn, starting her journey away from her family. She attempted job after job, exploring passions she never would have had a chance to.

She attempted love, though that was a failure at the mention of who she was.

She attempted to be a guardian in other ways, as a nurse, a caretaker.

She attempted to be creative as a writer and then creative as a baker.

But in-between these moments, these tiny slivers of stories. Trixie experienced loss and war and death and major advancements.

It was kind of exhausting.

These days, Trixie longs for the quiet morning of the cathedral. After almost hundred years of moments of loss, of pain, of War and death. She's not sure if her long story is worth continuing around humans and mortals or if she should return home. To be the guardian she was meant to be.

Even after all this time Trixie still isn't too sure who she is.

Jeannette Philips might have loved a man, once, might have found Paul intelligent and engaging, more than most of the bland souls she met at coven meetings. She didn't necessarily want a husband, but having one made little difference. She held her own place of importance in the branch of the coven she was devoted to, in a small, unsuspecting little Michigan town; a husband fit the image of wholesome and mundane. 

Jeannette wanted a child, jealousy simply would accept nothing less when her dear friend Emily became pregnant. But for the Philips there was no easy conception, no comfortable pregnancy. And when little Andy was born so perfect, her Sydney was born too weak, not ready. It wasn't love that drove her to work out the idea with Paul to steal the reagents from the Davis child to craft the magic to ensure their own would survive; she deserved a child more. Love was hardly ever a factor. 

Paul found it all foolish, a distraction at best, tolerable only for the fact that his Magick son, one he never claimed as more than the result of an unfaithful wife to keep his own status hidden from outsiders, was of interest to the coven because such extreme magic so young? It blurred the line between human and Construct. And anything of interest to the coven was, in his mind, salvageable. 

Even worth uprooting the family when people in that small town began to speak too curiously about the similarities between the boy who lived next door and the one in his own home. 

The Boiling Isles were better suited to their needs anyway, less questions. Jeannette loathed the idea but she had grown indifferent to most things about her husband and the son she had been so determined to have then so dismissive of. 

Hannah came along next and Sid found the seemingly endless scrutiny of his father, the distance of his mother, something he alone suffered. His sister arrived without complication; the universe gave the Philips their flawless child. Sid couldn't risk loving her outwardly, knowing she had to learn to be strong quickly because love was no lasting promise in the Philips home. 

Mother was only a shadow in his memory, sister a word Sid has tried to forget since the day Jeanette decided Paul wasn't worth being married to after all. The day she left it was with her perfect daughter, forgetting her imperfect son. The son Paul took some strange delight in reminding at every chance that alchemy magic is not meant to sustain forever, that Sid's future looms empty. 

Sid's world narrowed to just his father, he stumbled into his teens knowing mistakes were not acceptable, knowing the consequences were much larger than the man’s icy reactions and those were vicious enough. 

It was like the universe finally tilted in his favor when the magic caught up with Paul and the vile man began to rapidly decline; dragging Sid along in his search around the world to find a way to reverse the terrible state of his health, to save himself.

Sid can't say he has much sympathy, considering his own situation. He can look in the mirror and watch the emptiness bleed like shadows in the corners of his eyes, can feel the shift of whatever about him that had the humanity peeled away moving under his skin restless and bizarre; the Void stares back at him and it wants to devour him from the inside out with his own magic. 

He isn't willing to let it, not yet, regardless of what he has to do to keep it at bay a little longer.

All her life Jessie has been the one left behind when she thought she’d found a family. And that’s a long life, with a lot of leaving. First her parents, trying to stay out of her unhappy marriage, then her wastrel of a husband. He’d always seen her as a trophy, but a trophy brings no comfort to a man whose only real love is the chase, and so of course one morning he was gone with nothing but a note to promise that he’d return once he’d struck it lucky in the gold rush out west. After that she swore she wouldn’t trust so easily. 

Struggling to try and maintain the farm on her own, Jessie kept the peace by turning a blind eye to Pete and his gang, but in turn that became cooking them meals, and fixing up their clothes, and their injuries. Soon enough she abandoned being abandoned, and took up with the gang instead, under Pete’s protection. With the Round Up Gang, Jessie was an integral part of the chaotic, ragtag, dirty band of criminals they called a family. She was the one who whispered in Pete’s ear when the plan needed fixing, the first one to see flaws in a plan and the one who always had a contingency plan, even if Pete was the one taking the glory. And it was Pete’s genius idea to turn them all into Vampires. Perhaps if she’d had longer to think about it, she’d have found the flaw in that plan too, but at the time she was blinded by the thought of an eternal family, a family who would never leave her. 

But then, with the arrival of Bill, something else stirred in her. She saw the worst of the gang coming to the forefront, their cruellest instincts no longer tempered by humanity or faith. Turning Bill was the heaviest weight of her life for many long years - but although she tried to protect him and help him adjust, he was blind to Pete’s cruelty. When the gang fell apart, she felt them leaving her. And this time she had to be the one to leave, to seal her heart and protect herself. 

So she travelled the world, the beautiful woman with the sad eyes and the charming smile, of course she made friends in the upper echelons of society. And of course she put her old skills to good use, scamming and stealing from the heirs and heiresses of the rich through the beginning of the 20th century to fund her next adventure. And with a little canny management of her funds, Jessie hasn’t had to lift a finger to provide for herself since. But then everything shifted. An old favour called in, and Jessie found herself playing witness to the very worst of the twentieth century too. 

After the Second World War, Jessie disappeared almost completely from the view of vampiric society, her whereabouts, and what she was up to known to only a very select few who could be trusted to be discrete. Until she returned, in 2002, in spectacular style as though she’d never been away. Wild, free, always quick to laugh and quick to anger… only a very small handful of people would ever have noticed the difference those years had wrought in her. Now her wanderings, and some forwarded screenshots of a certain gossip blog, have sent her Swynlake bound.

Character Information

Before William Stoddard was even born, his parents took Horace Greely's advice to heart and went west, gaining a plot of land, working a farm and settling down to raise a family. But times were tough, and in order to make ends meet, Mr. Stoddard turned to some less-than savory-connections and ended up committing hold-ups to make ends meet. His wife was not pleased, and their marriage grew strained--until their son came along. Knowing that he had to set a good example for his child, William's father swore off his criminal ways and threw himself into working the farm, putting enough blood and sweat into it that the family prospered.

Thus William grew up doted on by his parents, and his father taught him all about how to work the farm and to care for the animals. He was especially fond of horses, and would often say when he grew up, he wanted to have a large ranch with lots of horses. His father also taught him how to shoot, which William took to very well, so much so that his father gave him the nickname which he has kept for the rest of his long life--Bullseye.

This happy existence was not to last, however. Though Mr. Stoddard had moved beyond his life of crime, that life caught up with him when some of the outlaws he had worked with came looking for him, wanting him to come back and rejoin the fold. He refused, which prompted the outlaws to kill not only him but his wife as well, then to set fire to their house and barn. William only survived because his father had hidden him away in a secret trapdoor under the house when the outlaws arrived, and he managed to crawl out from under the house while the fire raged.

Having lost everything--his family, his home--William had no idea what to do or where to go. He managed to make it to the nearest town, but no one seemed interested in taking pity on him. Occasionally someone would give him some food, but even young as he was, he knew he could not survive like that. Then, in an cruelly ironic twist, a different band of outlaws eventually crossed his path. The leader, Pete, took a shine to the boy and allowed him to tag along, thinking an impressionable lad like him could be a useful part of the gang when he got a bit older.

So, having no idea that his father had done the same thing, William became an outlaw, though in his mind, he could only see it as having found a new family. As time went on and he got older, he became more and more attached to them, especially Jessie, and they in turn saw him as a vital part of the gang, and as he proved his skill with shooting, they too dubbed him the same nickname that his father had--Bullseye. While he might have wished to never have to leave the gang, Bullseye had not expected the offer Pete eventually made to them all. He did not like the idea of becoming a creature like a vampire, but he did like the idea of being able to stay with the gang forever. So he agreed, was turned, and things went on with the gang, albeit with a few different needs and abilities having been added into the mix.

But it was not to last. The other gang members began to grow disillusioned with being vampires, and while Bullseye was not really happy being one either, he still wanted them all to stay together. But the rest of the gang did not, and eventually, they all left Pete, Bullseye included. Once again he found himself not knowing what to do or where to go, especially now that he was a creature who was shunned by most of society. But even through his time with the gang, he had never forgotten his dream of owning a horse ranch, and so he found an uninhabited place near the Rocky Mountains and set himself up with a plot of land and several horses, and for a time, he was as content as it was possible for him to be in his current state.

This too was not to last. As the twentieth century wore on, more and more people began to encroach on his previously uninhabited area, and eventually Bullseye knew he would no longer be able to hide what he was and still be able to live there in peace. So he pulled up stakes and ended up crossing the ocean, finding a place in England called Swynlake, where he has attempted to settle once again, mostly keeping to himself and doing what he loves--caring for horses.

Despite his best efforts, Woody was never adopted, and when he was 18, he enrolled in the police force.

Bright, talented, and ruthlessly clever—Woody climbed quickly through the ranks, becoming the youngest sheriff in his small Texan town.

Unfortunately, a scandal surrounding Woody left many of the townspeople angry with him and so he’s fled to Swynlake, trying to keep a low profile as an officer.
