Making a Spore hard mode species that’s a tardigrade/cat combo and kind of acts like Nibbler from Futurama. Basically like ultimate survivalists that eat everything but are also cute and intentionally play that up to manipulate other species into fighting for them and doing all the heavy lifting.

They live right next to the Eu’phoria who are obsessed with them the way we are with cats. I’m making myself laugh at the different federation races being obsessed with them for completely different reasons.

Creature List

Most of my empires are part of a Galactic Federation focused on undermining the Grox through terraforming and science. Their current project is the Galactic Flyway Project, which would carve a path through the Grox straight to the Galactic Core.

The most powerful empires are the Vithra (Scientist), Eu'phorhea (Shamen), and Toxicore (Diplomat), plus the five Rainbow Coalition empires that act as one. The Toxicore are the organizers of the federation, since they have the most motivation to do all the paperwork and relationship building. The Vithra and Eu'phoria are the heavy hitters when it comes to terraforming. The Eu'phoria are extremely friendly hippies who like to spread life and happiness everywhere, and will sometimes take on diplomatic roles. The Vithra founded the Federation and serve as protectors for some of the smaller empires, but don't really care for day-to-day administrative stuff.

The Rainbow Coalition empires mostly care about their arm of the galaxy and aren't concerned with the rest of the galaxy beyond it. The Crimraptor's (Knight) part of the empire spans horizontally across the entire arm and serves as a blockade. The rest of the coalition are set up behind this barrier and are generally more peaceful. The galaxy arm that they control is well-maintained and a good place to visit.

The Magepie (Trader) are sort of the Toxicore's smaller cousins and see the Federation as a business opportunity. They staff the Federation outposts near wormholes where they set up their Spuckee's (Spore/Space Buckee's) spaceship stops.

The Villipedes (Warrior) are an isolationist empire and aren't part of the Federation due to not being interested in galactic affairs and having enough firepower to vaporize anything that threatens them. They have a decent enough relationship with the Vithra, but the rest of the Federation members find them offputting.

The Villipede captain is less isolationist and hivemind-y than the rest of their empire due to an experience where they were lost in space on the opposite end of the galaxy for several months and had to rely on other alien races in order to survive. They have more interactions with the Federation as an individual that aren't really sanctioned by their empire.

The Risk'aa (Bard) are a tiny-but-social empire protected by the Vithra. They get like one vote in the Galactic Senate, but always have a good time interacting and partying with the other empires.

The races that party the hardest are the Risk'aa, Toxicore, Magepie, and Neovine. The Neovine are a lizard/poison dart frog/plant combination and almost certainly secrete some kind of psychoactive substance.

The Nyct (Zealot) are new to the scene and I may have them try and ally the Grox. They are tentatively in the Federation (claiming that they are only getting close to them to sabotage them), but are on thin fucking ice.

I like the idea of the Vithra being the diplomatic liaison for the morally dubious empires (Villipede and Nyct) that the more good-aligned empires are leerly of.

I always forget about the Cervi (Shamen/Ecologist) they might be unaware of the Federation since they're kind of out there on their own. Might have them have a sort of Xanadu/mystical lost empire thing going on. They would be closest to the Eu'phorhea once they get contacted and in the loop.
