Second Chances [Touya Todoroki x Reader]
Tumblr media
˙⋆✮ That's So True ✮⋆˙
"Looking into big blue eyes. Did it just to hurt me, make me cry Smiling through it all, yeah, that's my life."
even villains deserve a lil redemption
Dabi x F. Reader
𓂃゚ ⋆ ゚ ☂︎ ༄˖°𓂃゚‧₊˚ ☁️⋅♡𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ.
WC: 1398
I'm sat on my thrifted couch by the window as rain softly beats against the glass. I press play on the voicemail for what feels like the millionth time, the words already burned into my memory, but still, I can’t help myself. Maybe this time will be different. Maybe hearing it again will change something.
"Y/N, please come back. What I did was wrong, it’s been months... I can’t lose you. The league misses you, too. Toga won't shut her damn mouth about you. Fuck, I’m so drunk right now... I love you. I know I didn’t say it often, but—"
The sound of Shigaraki’s raspy voice cuts through, sharp and impatient. "What are you yapping about?" he snarls. "We’ve got shit to do, wrap it up."
Dabi’s voice stumbles back in, slurred. "Bye, Y/N. I have to get a new burner soon- I’ll try calling again. Fuck, I know you won’t pick up. You haven’t the last dozen times but I’ll try." The message ends with a quiet beep.
It’s been three months since that call. And by then, I’d already been gone for seven. Seven months since the night I left him—the night I left all of them behind. His betrayal, his lies... it was too much. It’s been almost a year since I stepped away from the league, from the chaos, from the life that almost consumed me and swallowed me whole. A year since I walked out and didn’t look back.
I’m lucky, though. So stupidly lucky. My quiet, lowkey role in the league made slipping away easy, there were no repercussions or police coming after me every time I stepped foot outside. I’ve kept off the radar, built a new life for myself—a quiet life. I work at a flower shop now, which is insanely different than working as a villain for Shigaraki and the League of Villains, and it smells a lot better too. I’ve even gotten myself a little apartment on the edge of town, cozy, with a window that overlooks a quiet street, and roommate, which is actually just a little calico kitty that I named Cupcakes.
I’ve found peace here. Real peace. But the voicemail keeps pulling at me like a thread that came loose on a favorite sweater, both painful circumstances. And no matter how hard I try to ignore it, I know Dabi’s voice will haunt me forever if I don't talk to him at least one more time, and attempt to get better closure than some shitty drunk voicemail.
I text Giran, the broker that supplies the league with everything, including burner phones. Dabi stopped calling recently, so I assumed he lost my number with the last burner, because knowing him, he wouldn't stop calling just to give me space.
Me: Hi Giran! It's Y/N, I know we haven't talked in a while, but I was wondering if you know Dabi's current burner phone #? 😇
He gets back to me almost immediately.
Giran: Y/N!! So good to hear from you, kid, thought you fell off the planet lmao. And yea I can send the number. Giran: ###-###-####
He sends me the number, and I dial it immediately, my hands trembling. After a few rings, Dabi picks up, his voice sounding annoyed. "Who’s this? And how’d you get this number?"
"Hey, uhm... it’s me, Y/N."
"Y/N?" His tone softens, a hint of surprise in his voice. "Didn’t think I’d hear from you tonight. What’s up?"
I hesitate for a moment before speaking. "I just wanted to talk... are you busy?" I can hear a lot of voices in the background—probably everyone from the League. "If you’re tied up, it’s fine. It’s nothing important."
"Never too busy for you, doll." His voice shifts, and I hear him step away from the noise, the background chatter fading as he walks off.
The noise in the background slowly fades as he steps away, and I imagine him walking down a hallway, his boots hitting the floor with a slow, deliberate rhythm. The sounds of his breathing and the soft hum of his movements are the only things I can hear now. It’s strange, this feeling of distance and closeness at the same time.
“Alright, I’m all yours,” Dabi says, his voice rough but clear now, like he’s giving me his full attention. “What’s on your mind, Y/N?”
I swallow hard, staring at the rain outside, the droplets running down the glass, blurring everything in sight. My heart races in my chest, a million thoughts running through my head, none of them making sense. “I don’t know,” I admit, running a hand through my h/c hair. “I guess... I just needed to hear your voice.”
“Yeah, I figured that.” He lets out a soft chuckle, though it sounds a little strained. “You’ve been gone for a while. Thought you were never gonna reach out.”
“I didn’t think I would either,” I reply quietly. “But... I keep listening to that last voicemail you left. Over and over again. I just... I couldn’t stop myself.”
There’s another long pause, and I can almost hear the shift in his posture. Maybe he’s rubbing his face, or clenching his jaw. I wouldn’t be surprised. Dabi’s never been one for easy emotions. “Shit,” he mutters, sounding like he’s been through too much to deal with this. “I shouldn’t have left that message. I meant what I said but I wish I said it better, I wasn’t thinking straight.”
"It's okay. I liked it." I say softly.
"Really?" He asks, his voice almost in disbelief at me admitting that I enjoy his shitty drunk voicemail despite everything.
“Yeah,” I answer quietly, feeling the weight of the words settle between us. “It wasn't like you at all- guess the liquid courage helped a lil, huh?" I laugh dryly, "It was real sweet its own way. I could tell you meant it, even if you were drunk n didn’t know how to say it.”
Dabi’s silence on the other end feels heavier now. I can almost picture him—frowning, leaning against a wall, trying to collect himself. "Fuck," he mutters after a moment, voice low. "I never thought I'd hear you say something like that. But... I'm glad you did."
“I’ve been avoiding it,” I admit, my fingers tightening around my phone. "Avoiding you, avoiding everything. But I can’t keep running forever."
Dabi lets out a long exhale, like a weight’s been lifted from his chest. "I get it. I know you had your reasons for leaving, and I don’t blame you for it. I fucked up." His voice drops a little. "But if I’m being honest... I’ve missed you, Y/N. More than I ever thought I would."
My heart skips a beat. It’s strange to hear him speak so plainly, without the usual sharpness in his voice. "I’ve missed you too," I whisper before I can stop myself. The confession catches me off guard, and I quickly add, "But that doesn’t mean I’m ready to just jump back into everything. Things are... complicated."
"I know," Dabi replies, quieter now, as if he’s absorbing my words. "I’m not asking you to. I’m just... saying that I’m here. And I’m not going anywhere. If you want me to prove it, I’ll prove it."
There’s something in his voice now that feels different, a promise without needing the words. A subtle shift in how he speaks to me, less like the cocky villain and more like a person who’s afraid of losing something he doesn’t deserve.
I stare out the window at the rain, a tightness in my chest as I let the quiet wash over me. I know I can’t go back to the way things were, but maybe—just maybe—I can start a new chapter with him, one where we’re both trying, even if we don’t have all the answers.
“I don’t know how I feel yet,” I say finally, voice soft but steady. “But... maybe we can try again. Slowly.”
Dabi’s voice is quieter now, but there's an undeniable relief in it. "That’s all I need. A chance. We can take it slow."
I lean back against the couch, closing my eyes as I listen to the steady rain and his steady breathing on the other end of the line. For the first time in a long while, the knot in my chest begins to loosen. There’s no going back to what we were before, but maybe there’s still a chance for something else.
"Alright," I whisper, a faint smile tugging at my lips despite myself. "Let’s see where this goes."

Hi, How are you ☺️.
Can you guess the LOV's favourite games. Or just the Genre of Games they would like.
Sorry if someone else has already asked
Shigaraki has been confirmed to have played a lot of PvP games, but then switched to simulation games. We know he plays League of Legends (I’m pretty sure that’s where he got the name of the league from lmao) He was a League of Legends/Call of Duty/Fortnite gamer. I’ve joked about it before, but I think he’d actually really like Animal Crossing. The game is so reflective of taking on the role of a leader and caring for your villagers and making the town better for them (like he wants for the league members 😭)
Spinner is also confirmed to have liked League of Legends, and from the context we get about him and Shigaraki bonding over video games, I’m willing to bet their tastes are very similar— however he loves the Grand Theft Auto series. (That is how he learned to drive, after all). Also, I feel like he’s probably lost several months of his life to World of Warcraft.
-the rest of this is just my assumptions bc we have no canon info about the others gaming habits lmao-
Dabi doesn’t game very often, but he’s the only one in the league who is willing to play horror games. He probably also likes games like Dead by Daylight, but only if his role is the killer.
Toga gives me Sims energy and she works hours on making her sims perfect (yes, she will make people she knows irl). She also definitely plays dress-up games and dating sims.
Magne doesn’t strike me as an avid gamer, but she would LOVE playing the Jackbox party games with the league. She also gets mad competitive over board games lmao
Twice gives me classic Nintendo vibes. Super Mario, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong (etc.) He probably loves Super Smash Bros.
Mr. Compress also doesn’t strike me as an avid gamer, but Shigaraki once suggested Ace Attorney to him and he loved it. (this man lives for a courtroom drama)
Kurogiri unfortunately isn’t a gamer. However, I could see Shigaraki trying to teach him how to play video games and then Kurogiri trying to teach Shigaraki how to play card/bar games in return.
Giran 👈 THIS MAN GAMBLES ONLINE
AFO has never touched a video game in his life, and if he has, it was Pong— and he sucked at it.

League of Villains band au where:
Btw this is a no quirks au, skdjkdndmdmdnd
It starts with an announcement on Kurogiri's bar. Tomura had been on and off for a whole year on different bands, but nothing worked, so he decides to start his own project.
Giran owns Kurogiri a few favors, so he makes some calls and eventually comes across two young punks who look exactly like Tomura's brand of crazy.
Toga is a drop-out high-schooler who was kicked from home. She was making a name for herself singing in the streets while playing either the drums or her guitar.
Touya's dream was to be a pop king like his dad. After his accident and recovery, Rei and the other Todoroki kids agreed to help Touya change his appearance and move to his own apartment, where Enji wouldn't find him. He can't sing like before due the damage on his vocal cords, but his a total showman on the guitar or bass and an insane lyricist.
Tomura processed the trauma of his family death through music from a young age. In other words, he's able to play a good number of instruments and knows a lot about music theory. He prefers the piano, however. The movement on the fingers help him relax.
The first time they play together because they can't decide which genre they want to play or who sings or who plays what. They decide to find at least one or two more bandmates and try it out.
That's how they met Spinner, a barely known bassist from a small town, and Twice, a kinda older drummer that makes it sound like he has more arms than he has when he plays the drums, holy shit.
They try again. It takes them a few intense days until they make it. Funnily enough, they were chilling all across the bar messing with some cover when Kurogiri walked in and started correcting them individually. That's how they learned that Kurogiri is some musical genius or something.
They start pulling their influence. Found in Magne a make-up artist and in Mr. Compress a visionary man when it comes to the stage arrangements. Mustard is their first fan, Muscular their bodyguard and they have a poor mutilated plushie that they call nomu, the mascot of the band.
They start playing on Kurogiri's bar, getting barely enough money to buy a broken ass van and travel as they can to other places. Their reputation is mostly due how crazy they all look stumbling down the van and getting on stage. They're like a fever dream.
They start creating their own lore. Maybe there's a superior evil pulling their strings. Maybe the world turned them into villains. Maybe Dabi can breath fire and Tomura always wear gloves because he destroys everything he touches and Toga has fangs and drink blood and Spinner ir a lizard man and there is a different Twice every night and...
Before they know it, it's not about the fame anymore. They sign with Meta Liberation records. Magazines are calling them a menace to the music industry. They're competing with the best boy bands and solo artists and records of Japan.
It's a delicate thing to find themselves a second before diving in a spiral of fame and attention. It's chaos and it's hurting them but also there's nowhere else for them to be.

this is a shitty first intro to them i have a whole ass google sheet but it's not completely finished lmao this is jus a quick run thru before i post their actual oc sheet
but my oc's name is Génesis, they're the same age as Tomura but they meet like a year before USJ when they're 19. They're Salvadoran-American from a small town in California and lived in LA for a while. They're non-binary! They use THEY/THEM pronouns only. They snuck into Japan after to have a fresh start after going thru the most traumatic time of their life (spoilers). Their quirk is Tech/Quirk Manipulation. Gl1tch's quirk is rowdy and unsettling, its mainly powered by their emotions and activates at random. Their body physically glitches, colored pixel blocks n everything. It affects all their surroundings, people and tech.
Tech Aspect: They can alter the programming and function of electronics based off their mental state and stamina.
Quirk Aspect: They can turn off a quirk, weaken it's power or override it. They have less of control over this part of their quirk...
Genesis grew up in a rough n strict environment where her family forced them to suppress their disruptive quirk to avoid unwanted attention from corrupt heroes and cops in their high surveillance lower-middle class neighborhood. Gl1tch grew up around other ppl w unfavorable, "useless" quirks, and mutant quirk users.
Genesis is an off putting, awkward, chaotic, and nerdy individual. Think of Rue Bennett from Euphoria and Abed Nadir from Community mixed together. Sassy and vulgar as hell but quiet at first for the most part. They have a special interest with retro things specifically older technology, music, and video games.
When the arrive to Japan they work w/ Giran and later with Tomura.
Tomura and Genesis fucking despised each other in the beginning of their relationship cus Genesis robbed them when they first met at an arcade but later learned to tolerate each other as they were forced to get along for work and became friends. THEN more shit happened (SPOILERS) and they stopped talking for months till USJ n Tomura blackmailed them into joining his League.
I WILL UPLOAD MY DRAWINGS OF THEM LATER I SWEARRR but plssss if u have any questions abt them i will happily answer them!! i hope yall like them

Jay needs to use a cane to get around comfortably but he hates that he has to use it so he often goes without it, despite the fact he could really really use the help

Robin left his hometown to go on a solo summer roadtrip after graduating high school. the drive lasted about 2hrs until the car spun out (he's fine) and he couldn't restart it, so he went into town for help. he's lived in that exact town ever since!

lifespans are a bit different in my story, Guardian of the Sky. each fae/demon has a different life expectancy, and hybrids are super murky on their estimated lifespans! nymphs like Sky can live up to 300yrs while elves like Clementine can live to 3,000yrs!
Grian is a fae-demon mix(faun and tiefling) so his life expectancy is somewhere in between those two, about 160yrs. even though Clem and Giran about the same age (Giran: 67yrs, Clem 65yrs) Giran is around 45ish in human years while Clem is closer to 25ish.
Per usual, I thrive off of your asks. Ask me anything-- Tumblr may hide it from me but I will persist💪

How would Himiko have access to where Izuku is from and his mother being friends with Bakugo's? Rather easily, I believe.
Where Izuku is from: assuming UA doesn't say the city or town the students in the Sports Festival's third event are from (possible but uncertain) or Izuku didn't write it down on his social profile(s), Aldera would be bragging about him for anyone who cares to find out (and Himiko would be the first to).
How to find out his mother is friends with Bakugo's: social accounts. From Izuku's she goes to Inko's, from there to Mitsuki's, and from Mitsuki's to Bakugo's.
Both: ask Garaki or pay Giran.
I find it unlikely that Aldera or Midoriya would advertise the other, considering what things were like there

Dragons are meant to hoard. It's a rumor passed through generations turned fact in the eyes of the people.
What they don't know is that even half dragons are not immune to keeping what they love close.
Or half dragon Spinner who hoards love. (Cue readmore, it's a spinaraki fantasy au idea but the side notes are just me world building and includes a variety of heroes/villains/students)
Not a possessive love but more like, spending time with people until they decide to leave and (hopefully) return because the best love is love freely given and in all his years of loneliness Spinner never forces anyone to stay with him (not saying this would be a double edged sword of never feeling like he's good enough to have people stay but that's what I'm saying).
At the start, Spinner has Compress and Mustard (who more often than not is off doing who knows what [crime]). They're wandering from town to town in part so Compress can give a few shows and move on to the next.
Cue mage Shigaraki who comes from a land where dragons are loud and violent and attack the settlers (because the people have stolen or ruined their hoards. The people don't know this because not all hoards are material so they assume it's unwarranted anger.). He's suspicious and wary of this stranger with skin that reminds him too much of the fights back home. There are no half dragons in Shigaraki's homeland so he doesn't really catch on, but sometimes he thinks he sees a 3rd eyelid flick across Spinner's eye in particularly windy weather, which doesn't help.
Shigaraki is in the town to meet up with Dabi, his pen pal (fellow plotter), who by this point has gained a tag along, Toga. Unfortunately they're detained at the border to the province.
Giran, Shigaraki's point of contact for smuggling, is in hiding and the only one who is willing to help Shigaraki find Giran is Spinner. He's been through enough towns, villages, and cities to know how to navigate the underbelly and figure things out.
Cue shenanigans, Magne and Twice joining them, and a plot to assassinate some ruling nobles. A perfect backdrop to learning how to be vulnerable and falling in love.
SIDE NOTES (of which there are many):
Is one of the ruling nobles Redestro? Perhaps. I like the idea of keeping him as a sort of figurehead after the (attempted) assassination who is loyal to Shigaraki.
Speaking of assassinations - I feel like that's be a good way to introduce Stain as a side character. Or Stain was the one who taught a young Spinner to defend himself and taught him how to live as a traveler. Either way, we aren't forgetting Stain.
Spinner isn't as old as he might sound - he's been on his own from a young age which means he has more experiences than you'd expect for a 20 - something year old.
There are general magic users, but their magic affinity is quite low. They take the form of healers or other roles where general magic knowledge is useful, but not needed to be exceptionally powerful. A handful of magic users have a strong affinity for one type of magic. Either it's evident from a young age (shown in little ways from birth) or it "suddenly appears" one day (really it's just a buildup of magical energy from birth being released).
AFO's, Ujiko's, and Kurogiri's roles are similar to canon but they don't play much of a part in the story as they stay in Shigaraki's homeland doing whatever villains in power do. Basically I'm sidelining them.
AFO still supports Shigaraki but instead of familial adoption it's more raising him to take his place (AFO's ward). AFO is a strong mage but it's kept very hush hush to the general populace. Magic has a place, but the stronger the magic user, the less trustworthy they are seen due to being more powerful (and less controllable).
Ujiko is still up to his usual nomu stuff. Maybe via necromancy? Yeah, I guess I'm making him a necromancer. Which, if he has an affinity for "death" magic I could see how, if the primary death (corpse) has different rates of decay due to naturally stored pockets of magical energy, it would mean he'd have to replace those parts/sections with pieces from another source, hence the "mixing" of people. And if everyone/everything has latent magical energy, then it would allow him to use regular (non-mages or hybrids) people. Then let's take it further and say that the mixing of latent magic energy results in artificial mages or strengths in the revived corpse. To what end would he do this? I'm not sure.
Debating if Kurogiri should be Oboro or if I want to split them into 2 different characters. (Traveling erasercloudmic would be really fun but I like the idea of betrayal/mourning too.)
Spinner is equal parts a traveler and a homebody. Last time he was hurt badly by companions leaving, he spent a few years in full dragon form in his cave. He only left because he got lonely. (Other dragons are both too far away to casually visit and don't care much for hybrids. Whether that's general resentment for being able to live among humans or just wanting to stay and guard their hoards depends on the dragon. I'm thinking the dragons that Spinner comes from are inclined to be solitary. The group Kirishima is descended from is more community based and social.)
Where do Hawks, the heroes, and students fit in? Yes, yep, for sure. If deku and/or bakugou centric fantasy au fics can ignore the villains then I can do the same thing. Vaguely though, they're floating around doing their own stuff in various roles. (Edit: I'm a liar and expand some on this later.)
Dabi has an affinity for flame magic. It doesn't manifest the same way Enji's did which causes a lot of strife within the family. Enji is still trying to one up Toshinori and thinks Shouto will fulfill his shoes the best. Natsuo doesn't mind (he'd rather help the people in their city more personally) and Fuyumi is married off. I like the idea of Fuyumi being an active leader and setting up social programs where ever she ends up (I think that'd be a nice translation of her teacher job but maybe I'm just projecting).
Hawks is a good old bird human hybrid (unique avian species? Harpy? I always default to the Maximum Ride interpretation so I'm biased).
He and Dabi meet on the road and Dabi is annoyed with this guy who won't stop swooping over him and can't he set up his own camp? Toga, no, don't invite him to eat dinner with them. Great, they fed him and now he won't leave.
Hawks has his own mission and he's definitely keeping up that friendly, a little invasive, but overall seemingly kind of ditsy persona while investigating Endeavor's oldest kid.
The Commission is the nefarious background group influencing the ruling class (the more obvious members take the place of advisors while others are the behind closed doors, secret dealings type of characters). They have their own ideas of how society should progress and they're not afraid to manipulate events however they need to.
I've seen other aus have Aizawa take up an advisor/teacher role for the kids and I really like that so I'm keeping it. He usually travels with Mic and Oboro but took up a temporary role at the castle to teach (I guess the students are ending up there at some point). Mic and Oboro stop by every so often to mess with Aizawa (and teach the kids some magic and mischief). I decided it was too sad to have Mic traveling by himself, so Oboro and Kurogiri are 2 different characters.
Izuku is that kid in the town always wanting to learn and striving for out of reach goals (a position of power - he's got ideas to improve life in the outskirt towns and villages). Bakugou is the son of the "barbarian" leader and doesn't think Izuku can do it (which has more to do with fear that he won't be able to be as good of a leader as Izuku than Izuku's abilities).
(only using barbarian because that's fantasy au's designation for him, but think of it as a nomadic group that camps near the town in winters)
Feeling like I've side tracked from the original premise.
Still not sure what the video game equivalent would be for Spinner and Shigaraki in this universe.
Anyways I'm a sucker for a good fantasy story, but I'm not good at writing dialogue so I'll leave this plot bunny as it is. In the right hands this could easily be a dabihawks and spinaraki fic. (If anyone wants to write it though...... I'd have no complaints.)

- - Open Thread | Villain!Izuku - -
“How’d I wind up in this scenario?” mumbled Izuku.
He was walking throughout town aimlessly, writing away in a notebook. He looked tired, moreso than usual. Though at this point, even more time had passed, and the bandage that once covered his cheek and left jawline was now replaced with a much smaller one, revealing a jagged scar.
Irritated tapping came from his pencil against the page. It seemed to be a case profile of the activities of a specific Villain. The victims, how they died, everything relevant that was available was placed there, along with vague ideas.
But to answer his question, this occurred approximately a week ago:
“Wait…you want me to what?” Midoriya was shocked, pointing to himself in slight concern. “Are you sure about that? What about Giran? Isn’t he more qualified to find people like this?”
“Find him for us,” Kurogiri instructed, standing above and behind their pseudo-leader from the bar. “Shigaraki wants to talk to him, and he wants you to do it. Besides, it wouldn’t hurt to increase your areas of expertise.”
A small grumbling sound came from Midoriya as he tried to get some sort of idea flowing through his brain. “Well…you’re not wrong… MaybeifIfindhismurderpattern… No,thatwouldn’twork… Thepolicerecordsmightbeuseful, butI’dneedSensei’sconnections… I might be able to find him in…three or five weeks?”
“You’ve got two weeks.” Shigaraki one-sidedly gave this order. “Do it, and I’ll consider it a rank up.”
“…EH?”
And now, back in the present…
Izuku groaned, burying his face into his notebook, slowly lowering it to the tip of his nose. “I need more time…”

Cry me a river
Chapter 1: Another fish in the sea
A sweet music could be heard on repeat at the bar for longer than 30 minutes now, but no soul moved to change it. Everybody was too absorbed in their own conversations. Their mouths couldn't stop moving, each one at a different speed depending on what liquor had passed through them previously.
Still, on the more isolated corner, there was a customer who hasn't moved their lips since the moment they entered the bar. Or if they had, others couldn't tell because of the black mask that covered their mouth and nose and ran down their neck. They wore a dark blue sweater, and a black wool cap, and beside them, there was a gym bag almost bursting. Not peculiar enough to drive enough attention to that corner, even with the black paint around their eyes.
The world in recent years had put to the test what could be considered ordinary or not. It was not uncommon to observe passersby on the streets who would long ago have been burned or taken away to be dissected the moment they appeared in public. Now they were drinking coffee, talking to people who possessed the appearance that was once considered normal, or just contemplating life in its futility and impermanence. There were even those called heroes, once martyrs, now role models that everyone who possessed a quirk wanted to follow.
Physical appearance had almost seized to be relevant, at least on that part of town where any evil-doer, any thief or schemer would walk unnoticed. Another fish in the sea, another villain, nothing more.
The customer seemed to be in wait for something or someone. That could only explain their head turning from time to time subtly. They haven't raised a finger to ask for a drink once, nor did they answer verbally when the waiter offered them. When the manager finally tried to approach to ask them to leave, since they have been taking space for too long without ordering anything, she turned around midway, panting, heart beating fast. Afraid of something she couldn't name, which came out of nowhere like a wave.
That was for the dissatisfaction of the others there. Another fish in the sea they whispered, but that wasn't enough to keep them from wondering what on earth did that person, someone new around, wanted there.
But the answer would come shortly.
The door opened once more, and seeing who had just walked in, gasps and sighs both of delight and dismay crossed the air.
Giran, a gray haired man wearing a purple coat and a puffy scarf that was probably a fake, knew very well that you couldn't always please everyone around you, especially if you don't pick a side to stand for. He remembered so as he walked across the bar, not like he owned the place, but like he knew the person who did. That was his life. As long as he knew how to play in someone else's game, he would be safe.
"Giran! How's life been treating you?" A man near the counter shouted.
"Oh, you know. Some days better than others"
He waved at some while trying not to look at other tables before approaching the jukebox and letting a coin he took from the bartender fall through the hole. With the click of one of the buttons, a different melody got mixed with the small talk in the place. He snapped his fingers at the beat before turning.
That was when he saw them.
Both stared at each other before Giran walked back to the counter. He and the first man who spoke to him took a table that forced him to look directly to that mask if he were to taunt his head. But he didn't, and the guest in that corner also made no effort to earn a glance.
Giran started up a conversation with the man on the other side of the table, paying no mind to anything else, but always awfully aware of what could be behind him. The customer started to drum their finger on their thighs for a change, while looking steadily at the door.
Time went by, and when only half of the people from earlier remained inside the bar, when even the jukebox seized to play, they went to the bathroom. At the same moment, two men and a woman came in. One of the man, the one who opened the door, was the smallest of the two, and wore a ragged pea coat slightly open on the upper chest area where traces of a tattoo were showing, and the other wore similar clothing, except his coat was fully buttoned up. The woman wore a trench coat equally torn and fingerless gloves, with tattoos running up on the fingertips of both hands like briars.
The manager told her workers to go to the back of the counter, while the other customers glanced around and thought about a way to flee without the three noticing. Giran chewed at his fourth cigarette, trying to ignore the sweat in his face and under his arms. Those three were no strangers to him, nor to anyone at the bar. They have, after a fight, claimed their share of territory on the alleys of the city, taking over what once the other group they defeated thought was theirs. They were rarely seen separated, and also rarely left their spot in the streets. That would explain the uneasy atmosphere that took over the place.
"Alright...where's the little shit?" The smallest man asked, looking around.
His eyes fixated on the gauntlets before seeing the eyes. Eyes covered in ink, like war paint.
"There you are. Gotta get you back for the favor you paid us back there, you bastard" Just as he was reaching up for the collar of his coat, the woman held him back by the shoulder.
"Step away, Nao" She yanks off her gloves to reveal the rest of the tattoos that course along the whole extent of her hands, but specially on her palms, that have each one a circle in the middle, adorned by complicated wavy lines "They're mine"
The manager stepped between the woman and the quiet customer.
"Hey, if you got anything to solve, do it outsi-"
The tattoo on the woman's right hand started shining in bright red, and in a second, she bent her arm back before hurling it ahead.
All the manager could see was a red gap in the middle of the circle on the woman's hand that kept getting bigger and bigger. All her employees could see from the back of the counter was a sharp red dagger flying from the palm of the woman's hand straight to their boss' face. They had a glimpse of her nose being cut in the middle, and the blood that would come out of it in seconds, bathing her face and staining the floor.
Seconds were enough for her to close her eyes. And it was also enough for the painted one to close the distance between where they stood and the woman about to be stabbed in the face.
The clinking of metal against metal ringed, and when the manager took enough courage to open her eyes again, she only had the time to make out the arm with the gauntlet covering the front of her face before being pushed aside by the masked person against the wooden counter, where the dagger, red as a siren, was stuck for a few seconds before vanishing in a red puff of smoke.
"You're thinking of putting up a fight now? Why don't you run like you did before?" The womanin the pea coat let her arm fall to her side.
Instead of answering, the quiet customer raised both arms and flexed their legs in defense position. They had fingerless gauntlets on both arms, with oval shields on top of them, and underneath those there was a sort of shooter with a small harpoon tip coming out from its muzzle.
"Quit staring Aya. Just finish them, c'mon!" Nao seemed more thrilled than his other two partners. One leaned against the wall near the door, the other, ready to stab the masked one until their cold dead body did a contrast with their hot blood pouring out from the wounds she yearned to open.
With a harsh scream, Aya began to wave her arms, her tattoos shining in brightly red and shooting dagger after dagger. The gauntlets blocked them the best way they could, but she could tell, their wielder wasn't that fast.
She started to walk forward, aiming as if her opponent's dance has been seen by her countless times before. Their attempts to attack kept being replaced by the shields blocking the daggers, forcing them to sometimes retreat, but never completely.
Aya threw a dagger at their forehead, and when the shield went up to protect that half of a face being shown, Aya ran and kicked her opponent on the side that was unprotected. They did not grunt, but their eyes shut tightly, the only hint the impact against the counter hurt.
"Where's that cleverness you put up against me back ther-" a glass filled with whiskey from the counter hit her in the face "Shit!" Wasting no time, they cut the air with the sharp edge of the shield horizontally, but Aya dodged it by lowering her head with a groan.
As she did so, her face met with her opponent's knee that was quickly flexed in the air.
Aya stumbled back, trying to contain the blood running from her nose.
"Don't just stand there asshead! Do something!" She shouted to Nao, who brought both hands to his chest, his tattoo glowing just like Aya's. With a swift movement, two bright red swords appeared in his hands once he pulled them away from his body.
"Finally, my turn!" Nao darted, one sword up and the other down.
Another series of sounds of crashing metal. The masked one trying their best to block each of Nao's moves, whose swords kept searching for flesh to cut. Again, like Aya, he seemed to always be one step ahead, always knowing where each unprotected part would be with every defense move, and by the sweat running down his opponent's temple, he could see they were getting tired.
That wasn't untrue. But the masked one was not worried. They had found what they wanted.
Aya came from behind with a dagger in her hands. She passed it around the masked one's neck, ready to slice their throat through the fabric of the mask.
"Come here" She whispered.
"Get them!" Nao shouted.
"Finally..." their third friend sighed to himself by the door.
The masked one raised their arm and shot, aiming for the wall where the door was, for the spot beside the third friend.
A chain, thick enough to fit the shooter, was launched, passing under Nao's raised arm, straight to that spot, but its sharp point didn't hit the wall. It stopped a few inches from it, and when the chain retreated to the muzzle, blood started spilling from apparently thin air. The man leaning against the wall turned to where the blood was coming from. The source of the blood seemed to twitch a little, and as it began to lower, a woman wearing a white dress, now stained, and a white blindfold began to appear, starting from her head to her heals . The man beside her knelt down to hold her.
Aya and Nao stopped moving the moment the chain was shot, both staring at the scene back there. The masked one threw his head back, hitting Aya's face again, who tripped back holding her nose. Her dagger faded in red smoke, and so did one of Nao's sword when it got kicked by the one fighting the two.
He quickly began to attack with the remaining sword.
"Nao, stop playing around!" Aya spoke through gritted teeth.
"What d'you want me to do?! I'm in the dark here now too!"
The quiet one kicked Nao in the stomach and turned to Aya, barely blocking the dagger descending on their face in time. Now up close, without being able to throw them, she took one dagger on each hand while trying to keep the same posture. But now she wasn't as accurate on her attacks as she was before.
"Sana! Get back up dammit!" She shouted to the two by the door.
"She's not waking up!" The man by the door was holding the blindfolded girl in his arms.
Nao, red in the face, brought his free hand to his tattoo and started to pull another sword from his chest when Aya was about to stab the quiet customer in the face. Her dagger ended up on Nao's hand when their opponent jumped to the right.
Nao screamed holding his bloody hand.
Aya froze, watching his face distort into a pained expression. She did not noticed the masked one's arm coming from behind. They hit her with the shield on the back of her neck, making her fall to the floor knocked out. Nao made a fruitless effort to stab them with his good hand, but all it took was a dodge and a swing of their arm for him to join Aya after a punch.
Surely, the eyes from the manager and her workers after the fight was over were far from gentle.
"Out...GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE! ALL OF YOU! NOW!" The manager started screaming, grabbing the first thing she laid eyes upon and throwing it at the woman on the floor, who grunted.
Being the only one standing, the quiet costumer passed one foot after the other over Nao's unconscious body and walked to the door, closing it behind them.
Outside, late at night, the mask was pulled down, and its user stopped under a flickering lamp post and lit a cigarette. No one was around to see their face without the mask, but if there was, it wouldn't cause that much of a fuss. Another fish in the sea, nothing more.
There they stayed. Waiting again.
And then, from the corner of the street, the sound of steps started echoing, getting closer and closer. The person under the lampshade dropped the cigarette on the street and stepped on it, making it join the hundreds of others discarded in that filthy concrete.
When the sound of the steps finally reached its peak, and the shadow accompanying them got smaller, Giran appeared, with his hands on his pockets, walking down the sidewalk towards the once again masked person.
"Well, hey there" he started "Not the calmest night we're having, right?"
His greeting was met with nothing but silence. Seeing no other option, he continued.
"We've been bumping into each other for quite some time lately, and I'm starting to think it is not a coincidence. I have a good eye for that. Why don't we walk a little bit? I suppose you are not allowed in Chikao's bar again."
The other one nodded, and both started strolling down the street.
"As for what I wanted, well, I saw a lot of potential in you for the past few days. Such talent should not go hidden from the world in a dead end like this place" Both walked into an alley, with only Giran's voice being heard while the masked person squinted their eyes at him "That being said, I have a business proposal to you...or better...I have a client who has been looking for people to accept this proposal. It's promising enough. If you are interested, I can tell you more. Not that there is that much to unpack actually, bu-"
The masked one stopped dead on their tracks and started to look at Giran and behind them anxiously.
They reached for their pants pocket and pulled out a small notebook with a spent blue cover and a pencil. After quickly scribbling something on one page, they tore it and shoved it on Giran's hands.
And then, they ran all the way back to the corner Giran came from.
Confused, but somewhat unimpressed, Giran walked out of the alley to read the note in the dim light of the nearest lamp post.
《Please don't leave. I'm interested in the proposal.
I forgot my bag at the bar.
Be back soon.》

It took Isamu, the second man of that group, an hour and some help from two other people drinking at the bar to carry his three friends to the alley he thought was good enough to pass the night.
Being the worst of the three, Isamu started to apply some tissue with alcohol in Sana's pierced shoulder. The woman woke up seconds after he started, moaning in pain.
"Try to stay still, I'm almost finished" he was not, but all he wanted at the moment was for her to get better.
While he was at it, he began to wonder about the person responsible for this. They were not that uncommon to look at. C'mon, a mask? What was so impressive about it.
Nothing.
What was impressive was the fact that they knew he was hiding Sana at the bar. When they talked to him and Aya, both didn't say there was a fourth member to the group. That was the Tatoochi Group secret. Their secret. With Sana's quirk, they could know their enemies next steps and never break a sweat while destroying them.
When that person asked them for help and then betrayed the group, it was obvious Aya would want to go after them for a rematch.
But without Sana telling her what to do...
Speaking of her, Aya grunted and started to get up while rubbing the back of her neck. To the sound of his sister, Nao moved in his sleep.
"Lay down Aya-chan. I'll see your head in a minute" Again, it wouldn't take Isamu only that.
Seeing the state his group was in, Isamu couldn't ignore the anger boiling in his chest. They were defeated for the first time since they stared working as a team.
"What happened after that?" Aya's voice was barely recognizable with the pain throbbing on the back of her head. If she raised her fingers, she swore she would see the blood from the concussion.
"They left through the door without looking back" Isamu answered, done cleaning Sana's shoulder.
"Fuck" She covered her eyes with the hand that was not supporting her neck "All that circus, and they didn't even stay for a rematch"
"Like you would be up for it..." Nao whispered, still with his eyes closed.
"Shut up" Aya grunted "After Sana's better, we will find them again. And this time, try to pick a better hiding spot Isamu!"
"I don't think there will be a next time" Isamu said as he rolled a bandage in his hand.
"Have you forgotten who's in charge here I-sa-mu-kun?" Aya said with a stern tone while sitting with legs crossed.
"Before they left, they actually dropped something" Isamu reached inside his pocket and threw a small cylindrical paper wrapper tied by a string.
Aya opened it as Isamu moved behind her to clean her neck.
Inside, there was a total of JPY6.000 and a note.
《I hope this will be enough to cover the damage for now.
If you ever come after me again, I will rip out your tongues and ears.》
"Dammit" Aya threw the note far.
"Told you"
"Well, that might have changed your mind, but not mine. I'm going after them, and when I find them, I will double the price"
"You shouldn't worry about it, Aya-chan"
Isamu and Aya stared at the blindfolded woman on the ground, speaking in a weak tone.
"What do you mean, dear?" Isamu asked, carefully.
"I saw it...they will die soon"

Shigaraki’s Guard Dog (Male)
Tomura Shigaraki X Male!Reader
Word Count: 2020
Summary: All For One happen to get his hands on another kid that he trains to be Shigaraki’s bodyguard and friend and you take your job very seriously.
A/N: working on making a male version as well, which isn’t going to take very long so hopefully that’ll be up tomorrow for those who are interested in that, I’ll put a link on this post when it’s up :) Also thinking about a part 2 if anyone is interested in that.
Female Reader
Tumblr media
Shigaraki remembered the day that All For One brought you to him, you were his age, he watched as you sat next to him and put your hands out to him “You can touch him.” One For All encouraged, he looked at you for a second and you smiled pushing your hands forward.
“He’ll turn to dust.” He shook his head. “No, I won't, I promise.” You smiled, it was the first time that you had spoken but you seemed so happy when he didn’t move you rolled your eyes and dove forward with extraordinary speed and wrapped your hands around his, he waited for you to disappear but your weight stayed solid and he opened his eyes to see that you were still there unchanged and smiling brightly. “This is your new friend, there will be times when even I can be with you but he will always be with you.” All For One promised as you nodded, sitting with your legs crossed. “What’s his name?” Shigaraki asked. “You get to give him one.” All For One answered waving a hand at him before turning to leave, “I’ll be back later, get to know him.” “W-what do you want to be called?” Shigaraki looked at you but you shrugged your shoulders smiling. “I don’t know that many names, what do you think?” You asked, Shigaraki seemed to think about it for a while before speaking again. “I’ll call you (Y/N). What do you think about that?” He asked. “Mmm.” You nodded your head as you hummed, sticking your pinky finger out. “What are you doing?” He asked. “Well he said we’re friends right, so lets make a promise.” You suggested. “No one ever keeps those.” Shigaraki mumbled and you shook your head. “I promise that you can count on me, no matter what I’ll follow you.” You wiggled your little finger and he looked at it for a second “Come on I kept my other one. I didn’t disappear.” Shigaraki finally looped his finger with yours and a bright smile took over your face as you nodded in confirmation.
From there on, you were never apart, while Shigaraki changed from a scared little boy to a villain on the rise, you had become his loyal dog, you spoke when you needed to otherwise you kept to yourself until you were needed, it was easy for him to see that you were broken and you had been for a while conditioned to listen to and protect him and him alone, he could remember days when you ignored something had asked, you were dragged away and brought back the next day. Now that he was older he knew that they must have taken you to punish you in some way but at the time it was just another thing that he didn’t understand. It was clear that the reconditioning had you relying on him as much as he relied on you, it became clear that you didn’t know what to do when he wasn’t around and with you being the only person that he could physically be in contact with, he held you closer than anyone else. However, now that the League was gaining potential members, you both seemed to worry that you wouldn’t be needed anymore.
You were sitting in the back corner of the bar with a drink in hand as you waited for your next order “Are you interested in the child Izuku Midoriya?” Kurogiri asked as the door to the bar opened. “Shigaraki your League Of Villains has been the talk of the town these days.” You leaned forward putting the drink on the table and leaning your elbows against your knees as Giran walked into the bar, he glanced at you for a second before continuing to say “word on the streets is your about to start something big.” “And who did you bring?” Shigaraki asked as he disintegrated the picture that he was looking at, he turned and left two people walking in. “So it’s really you?” The taller male asked, you looked over at him, was dressed in a long blue coat, white tee and dark trousers, but the thing that kept your attention was the burn scars that he was covered in. “I’ve seen your pictures but your way creepier in person.” “Woah it’s the weird-hand guy your friends with my hero Stain right?” The younger girl, who seemed to be dressed in a school uniform cheered as she moved her hands in an exciting motion. “Let me join the league, I want to be part of your crew.” “Kurogiri, get rid of these two, I can tell they’re exactly the kind of trash I hate.” Shigaraki gestured to the two in the bar and you tensed ready to move should the need arise. “A brat and a guy with no manners.” “Now, now Tomura Shigaraki, they've come all this way, the least we can do is hear them out.” He suggested. “Give them a chance plus this man is a trusted broker they are bound to be valuable assets.” “Like them or not you still owe me a finders fee, in cash, I suppose that I can introduce them before I go.” He said as he walked forward. “This one looks like an adorable school girl but she’s currently the suspect in a series of murders where the victims all bled to death, currently her face and name are being kept out of the media.” “Toga here, Himiko Toga.” She cheered, your eyes moved over her as you quietly grabbed the knife from the inside of the shoe. “Life is hard, I just want to make it easier to live in this work, I want to be Mr Stainy, I want to kill Mr Stainy come on handyman let me be in your league of villains.” “You’ve got to be kidding me, is she crazy?” Shigaraki asked. “Well, she can hold a conversation for the most part, at least come on she could be useful,” Giran answered but you didn’t take your eyes off her.  “And this guy hasn’t committed any flashy crimes but he’s taken Stain’s ideology to heart.” “I don’t like this, is your little group really dedicated to the hero killers' mission, I can imagine that you are if you're going to let this little psycho join you.” He leaned around to look at Toga who just laughed. “Grow up she may be a psycho but at least she knows how to introduce herself to people.” Shigaraki fired back. “Don’t just stare, what's your name?” “Right now I’m going by Dabi.” The guy answered and you frowned, you gathered that it wasn’t his real name and it seemed so did Shigaraki. “No, I want to know your real name.” He lifted his finger to point at him. “I’ll tell you when you need to know it.” Dabi dismissed the request easily and you knew he was the one that you needed to be careful with should they stick around. “In any case, my new mission is to carry out the Hero Killer’s will.” “That wasn’t what I asked you patchwork, why is everyone so caught up on Stain?” He asked as he rose from his chair “He’s all I hear about every damn day, it’s really pissing me off. You two are done!” In that split second your eyes connected with Kurogiri as you seemed to appear in front of Shigaraki, kicking Dabi away and disarming Toga putting the dagger to her neck instead, she giggled. “Where did you come from?” She asked. “What do you want me to do?” You asked, waiting for Shigaraki to tell you. “Tomura Shigaraki please calm down, if your dream is to be realized then we have to increase our numbers, now that we’re in the spotlight our chance is at hand, I implore you to be more accepting.” You saw out of the corner of your eyes that he snuck around to whisper something in his ear, he relaxed behind you, he moved past you carefully before pushing past the others. “I’m out of here, (Y/N) stay here, watch them.” He ordered. “Yes Sir.” You nodded, stabbing the dagger into the bar and walking back to where you were sitting before leaning back into the chair, eyes trained on the new arrivals, Dabi was righting himself after you kicked him and Toga was grabbing the knife that you had left on the bar. “I try to make it a point not to complain about clients but that guy is too young, too immature,” Giran said. “Careful or I’ll put a knife through your neck respected broker or not?” You warned downing the last of your drink before putting the glass back on the table. “I really thought that he was going to tell him to kill us.” Toga laughed. “That guy makes me want to vomit,” Dabi commented and you glared at him but didn’t say anything more. “Shall we get back to you about recruitment at a later date, I believe our leader knows what he has to do, that’s why he left when he did, he understands the circumstances, first All Might, then the Hero Killer he has been humbled twice very recently, I’m sure that he’ll give you an answer one that will satisfy both of you and himself.” “Alright so what's your story? How’d you find yourself with a creep like him?” Dabi asked, throwing himself down in the chair opposite you. “Call him by anything but his name one more time and you’ll lose a finger for-” “(Y/N) careful, the young master may still need them in working condition.” Kurogiri warned, you glanced at him for a second. “It’s none of your concern how I ended up here.” You finally answered. “Aw come on! Give us something!” Toga slid into the booth next to you, her hip hitting yours as she settled. “What I’ll give you is a concussion.” You warned. “(Y/N)!” Kurogiri warned again. “Trust me that’ll be an improvement.” You argued. “Alright I get it.” Dabi mumbled from where he was sitting, he had been silent this whole time apparently analyzing everything that you did. “Get what?” You asked as you looked back at him and he smirked. “Don’t you worry about that Doll.” He leant back in the chair as you leaned forward. “Don’t call me that.” You warned him.
A couple of hours later Shigaraki was back, Kurogiri had long since shown the other two to their rooms for the night. It was the first time that it had been silent for a long time, the other 2 argued constantly when you stopped entertaining them. “What are you still doing up?” Shigaraki asked as he pulled down the hood of his jumper. “You told me to keep an eye on them.” You reminded him, he walked over to the booth that you were sitting in and sat opposite you. “Well?” He asked. “They’re annoying.” You answered immediately. “And?” He rolled his eyes as you slid your drink across the table for him to finish. “They’re dedicated, smart for the most part, but they’re not enough on their own.” You answered honestly. “Not for what you want.” “Mmm.” He hummed. “It's going to get crowded around here isn’t it?” You asked as you looked around the bar as if trying to commit the image to memory before it all changed. “Mmm.” He hummed again as he looked around for himself before his eyes landed back on you again, you had your pinky finger outstretched to him. “Promise you won’t.” You almost pleaded and he rolled his eyes before wrapping his finger around yours. “This is so stupid.” He grumbled but you only smiled as you stood from your seat. “Get some rest, you’ve got a long day of recruiting tomorrow.” You reminded him. “We.” He corrected “you’ll be there too.” “Of course I made a promise, remember.” You smirked before leaving him alone and going to your own room, not seeing the small smile on his lips at the confirmation.

The Hands that Will Save the League
In chapter 321 we're reminded once again of the reoccurring motif of hands reaching out to save someone in need, especially with the double spread close-up of Iida's hands reaching for Deku's hands. I couldn't help but think how this could apply to the league of villains. Hand symbolism has always been associated with Shigaraki (duh), both in the fact that his hands destroy everything they touched, and also his reason for being a villain stems from the fact that not a single hand reached out to save him that day. However, we've also had another character in the league with hands drawn up close and personal reaching out to save the others: spinner.
1. Just an Empty Cosplayer
I'm not the first one to make this observation. @codenamesazanka pointed this out long before me, especially in regards to Spinner's importance to the league, but basically, Spinner's role is that despite being a teenage mutant ninja turtle he's also the everyman of the league. He's not connected to the main conflict of the story by bloodline or legacy, the way Shigaraki, Dabi, and Compress are. He's not someone with an incredibly powerful or deviant quirk like Twice or Toga. He is a victim, but he doesn't have the elaborate villain backstories of Twice, Shigaraki, Dabi, and Toga.
He literally is just some guy with a lizard quirk. He has the weakest quirk in the league and the weakest reason for why he joined the league. Spinner faces societal abuse because of his quirk, but what spurred him to action was seeing Stain appear on TV, and a desire to be a less empty person than he was before. Spinner was pushed, he was rejected by society, but I would say as an inverse to the league who are driven by extraordinary circumstances, Spinner is basically an every man who drives himself to keep up with the rest of the league despite seemingly lacking everything "special" they have.
And I believe this every man quality, and this drive Spinner has is what's going to be the key to piecing the league back together. It's because Spinner sees himself as so far behind the rest of the league, and so much less special than they are, that he's driven to try to understand them.
Not only is Spinner a member who has tried to understand every member of the league in one way or another, Spinner is also someone who similiar to Sihgaraki foils every single character in the league despite just being an everyman.
2. Spinner and Toga
Tumblr media
While Spinner and Toga may not have the same level of development to their interactions as Twice and Toga, Spinner reaches out to her once but not twice, and there are a lot of parallels you can draw between the characters.
Both Spinner and Toga joined the league for the same reason, an empty admiration for Stain, without really caring about Stain's ideals. Toga admires Stain because he's covered in blood and fighting for something and she wants to become more like the people she admires, Spinner because he saw himself as pathetic for hiding in his room all day and when he saw Stain taking a stand trying to change the whole world on his own he wanted to become that way too. Which means both of them have a tendency to want to become more like the people they admire, because their own sense of personal identity is so weak.
Himiko and Spinner both define themselves by the way society has rejected them. Spinner has internalized the idea that he's an empty person who can't accomplish anything on his own, every terrible thing other people said about him due to his heteromorph quirk he accepted it. At the same time, Toga was somebody born with a "dangerous quirk" who was told to repress it and then did that living under a fake identity as a normal school girl that would please her parents and the people around her for as long as she could. Both Toga and Spinner are taught by the society around them to be self-loathing and to repress themselves because of their quirks. They're also characters who are both defined by a desire for release.
When Spinner asks if Toga still wants to be in the league because of Stain and she responds, Now I wanna become everyone I love. Spinner comments, "You're so free."
Spinner and Toga both claim they joined the league because of love for another person, they both loved and admired some aspect of Stain, but their real reason for joining, or at least the reason they stay is that deep down both of them desire the freedom to be themselves. Toga wrapping her desires up in language like love for other people, and wanting to become them, is because deep down she believes because of her quirk there's no one who would accept her for herself, as the normal girl she believes she is, no one will let her live as Toga thus she tries to become other people. It's the same for Spinner, who believes he can't be anything other than the Lizard Freak, so he too tries to dress himself up and become a Stain Cosplayer. It's only through the league's acceptance that Toga and Spinner slowly begin to learn that they are good enough on their own, just as themselves, and their priorities begin to shift.
3. Spinner and Twice
Twice and Spinner have several backstory parallels already. They are both characters affected by poverty, Spinner lived in a backwater town plagued by old views of heteromorph quirks, Twice lost his parents and began working to support himself at a young age before becoming homeless. Spinner and Twice were also both labeled in a way that stuck with them, after Twice got a criminal charge in an accident on his permanent record he couldn't find another job after being labeled deviant. Spinner was labeled as a deviant because of his quirk and the idea that he's a lizard freak has always stuck with him the same way that Twice has internalized the idea that "bad people don't get saved."
They also both chose to isolate themselves because of the circumstances they faced. Twice's first response to homelessness was to decide to never trust anybody but himself, and he became a criminal who pulled off heists with only clones of himself as team members until that stopped working for him. Spinner's response was also to shut himself away in his room and become a NEET. They both cut themselves off to the society that labeled them as unacceptable, but in the process they also cut themselves off from other people and became unable to trust others.
While they have major backstory parallels, I believe the greatest parallel between them is going to be that Spinner will inherit that role that Twice had for the league. While Shigaraki is the leader, Twice more than anybody else believed the League to be a family, and encouraged everyone to be friendly with one another.
Tumblr media
It's Twice more than anyone else who emphasizes the bond of the league, that they're all strays, that they need to take care of each other and save each other. It's Twice who urges Shigaraki to save Giran because he's one of them. He makes the unspoken bond of the league as a group of miscreants into a spoken one, because Twice wants those things, he's well aware of the fact that he wants trust and acceptance and came to the league to find those things. This is the greatest thing that ties Spinner and Twice's characters together, because they both view themselves as worthless, they define themselves by how they help the other members of the league.
Twice's death so far isn't something that has been really capitalized on by the plot, Hawks has yet to face consequences, we haven't gotten to see much of the league's reaction because they were scattered soon afterwards. However, if Twice's death is going to cause development eventually I believe it will be in the vacuum in the league created now that Twice is gone. There is no longer someone who is urging all of them to be together. Twice's death causes most of the league to become less stable. Toga goes on a killing spree, Dabi attacks Hawks, Compress tries to kill himself in a heroic sacrifice, Shigaraki hasn't gotten the chance to react yet but he's also gotten worse considering he's currently possessed. You could even say that Twice's death has caused other characters to double down on their worst habits.
Dabi's worst habit is that he acts separately from the league and refuses to participate in the group dynamic, believing himself to be a solo avenger. Dabi not trusting or telling the league what he was planning on doing with Hawks, as a consequence of his decision to play solo avenger, caused Twice to trust Hawks which led to his death. Hawks was the one who killed him but Dabi played a part, and when Twice dies Dabi obviously reacts to it, but also his decision is to double down on his bad habit, insisting he's only using the league and he doesn't care about the rest of the group. Toga also doubles down on her bad habit, she runs away from the rest of the league and insists she's only doing this for the freedom to do whatever she pleases, not because you know Twice got killed right in front of her. Compress's arc is less pronounced, but he also does, in fact, try to kill himself in a grand heroic sacrifice for the rest of the league.
When twice dies the league begins to fall apart and everyone acts on their individual worst flaws, ignoring that they were always stronger together as a group. However, there is still one person who wanted the exact same thing Twice did, to be trusted, to belong to a group. This is most likely the role that Spinner is going to grow to, someone who is trusted by everyone in the group.
Tumblr media
Notably, when Toga is about to run away it's Spinner who reminds her that the league is a place for them to come back to. Toga who was probably the closest to Twice and spiraling the worst because of his death, and Toga and Twice's friendship was the first time we really saw how much of a "bond" the league had formed with one another, because in the camp arc they barely cooperated, only begrudgingly. It's Spinner who who emphasizes that even though everyone in the league is doing this for individualism "doing what they want" that they are also together as a group. Spinner is set to inherit Twice's role as the heart, because one he tries to understand other people in the league making the effort to reach out, and two Spinner is aware of what he wants just like Twice he wants to be trusted by the rest of the group.
4. Spinner and Dabi
This one is a little bit harder because Dabi's character arc really hasn't started yet. We have just now gotten to the reveal of who he is and what his motivations are, after it being a mystery for so long. However unlike the rest of the league, we haven't really seen how Dabi has reacted and changed by becoming a part of the group. Even if his motivation isn't "I'm only using them" and deep down he really does care, I don't think he's even realized yet that he does care or that he's not just using them. Dabi still believes himself to be alone, and therefore he's still isolated from the rest of the league and flying his revenge quest solo even though he's really not.
In that case, the biggest parallel between Spinner and Dabi is that they both had to be won over by the league. They both joined because of admiration for Stain, probably because Dabi genuinely believed in Stain's ideals of taking down impure heroes because it fit his own agenda so well, whereas Spinner is a self-proclaimed empty cosplayer.
Tumblr media
Spinner, however, has already gone through an arc where he was dissatisfied with his reasons for joining the league and didn't believe he belonged with the rest of the group. He didn't have anything to love like Toga. He didn't know yet he wanted friends he could trust like Twice already did. He doesn't have a strong backstory motivation like Compress, or Dabi or even knows what he wants out of society. However, the entirety of MVA is Spinner letting himself be changed because of his interaction with the group.
Tumblr media
Spinner failed at life, his quirk is worthless and only good for sticking to walls. He also internalized the idea that he himself was a failure, and locked himself inside believing he couldn't accomplish anything on his own. Spinner says he has nothing he loves, and nothing he wants to do. Not only that he feels unloved and unwanted. However, Spinner finds something to love in Shigaraki, even if he can't find a strong sense of individualism and still believes himself to be worthless he becomes motivated to help others. Spinner, the most normal person in the group with the most worthless quirk, becomes the greatest help to Shigaraki, basically once he gets over himself and his preconceived notions of himself. Because, you don't actually have to be a special person or have a strong quirk to be a hero, you have to reach out a hand.
The same way Spinner was won over by the League, Dabi has yet to be won over. However, if that does happen, it's probably going to look like Spinner's arc. Dabi antagonizes Spinner a lot, but they actually have more in common than they do differences. They both have failure quirks, while Dabi has an overwhelming fire quirk he wasn't allowed to use, Spinner is literally just a gecko. They both also were labeled as disappointments and given up on, Enji gave up on Touya, Spinner never had any potential from the start and locked himself away in his room. However, their paths so far have been opposites, Spinner let Shigaraki reach him and became a part of the group, Dabi at every possible opportunity insists he's doing this all alone. He takes every chance he can to separate himself from others. If Dabi's arc is going to be a mirror to Shoto's arc eventually, then someone has to reach him and convince him he can't do this all on his own, and Dabi can only truly find himself when he's part of the group once more. After all, so far Dabi is the one most resistant to change. Toga's goal has changed, Shigaraki's changed, Spinner has changed, even Compress now admits that while they're just a gang of thieves that he cares more about everyone else's dreams than his own. Dabi is still nursing a ten-year grudge against Endeavor and doing everything he can to take him down on his own because he hasn't let the group in. And he won't improve or change until he does let others in.
Tumblr media
5. Spinner and Shigaraki
I love Compress but I'm skipping over him because his arc hasn't been elaborated on yet. If you want a quick summary though, both Spinner and Compress didn't believe the group to be anything more than a gathering of selfish criminals, however, both of them changed because they wanted to see Shigaraki's dream come true. Not only was Shigaraki the one who inspired both of them to change, but also Compress is the one who first sees how close Spinner is to Shigaraki more than anyone else in the group was.
He also sacrifices himself BECAUSE he's come to realize that what he wants more than his own dreams is to see everyone else's dreams come true. I know Compress's backstory is rushed as all hell, but it almost... almost... works because Compress isn't actually doing this because he's Oji Harima's grandson. His motivation changed a long time ago, he just didn't realize it until he was about to lose the league.
There are a few more parallels, they're both dropouts. It's implied that Compress was literally just a retired and failed stage magician before he decided to become a villain. Hopefully we'll become more on that later because the idea of Compress sucking in showbiz so he decided to follow his grandfather's legacy is really awesome. Spinner was a Neet before he saw Stain on television. They also both have more minor quirks, Compress just shrinks people, Spinner sticks to things. They both also are characters who don't seem important at first, but consistently hover around in the background constantly making sure everyone in the group is okay. Compress calls to check up on people, he talks to Dabi a lot, he tries to keep up with everybody in a melee, it's the little things he does that make Compress same for Spinner. They're both cosplaying as legendary villains who are greater than they are, Stein is cosplaying his grandfather, Spinner is cosplaying Stain, but it's unknown whether Compress really cares that much about his grandfather's ideals, I think he cares about the league more. Compress and Spinner are also people who question and try to understand things, Compress lectures the kids that they had their ideals handed down to them for adult, Compress realizes Spinner's importance to Shigaraki before Spinner even did, Compress and Spinner also both try to understand other people's dreams because they're lacking in their own. Spinner doesn't even have a dream, but he's the one who listened to Shigaraki's dream first.
Tumblr media
Now it's been directly said by canon that Spinner and Shigaraki's connection is the most developed, and they are the closest to one another. By developed I mean, it changed over time, when it started out they had almost nothing to do with one another. Spinner was just a rank and file league member that Shigaraki used on the hideout raid. They didn't even get a character introduction scene like Shigarki did with Dabi and Toga.
However, Spinner and Shigaraki's characters are extremely closely tied together. Shigaraki's like the main character of the league, his backstories parallel everyone else's, including the main character of the entire story Deku. He's the one who makes the plans, goes through training arcs, he's the one who the league unites around. However, Spinner actually has all of that too. I just spent a very long time showing how Spinner despite not having an overly complicated backstory has strong parallels to everyone in the league. If Shigaraki is the main character, then Spinner is the everyman / the perspective character, hence why he's the narrator of MVA. Shigaraki is a person of extraordinary circumstance, the symbol of society's oppression who everyone in the league deepy relates to because he's suffered the same way that they have and he accepts them. Whereas, Spinner has suffered because of Hero Society too, he's more like a normal guy who makes an effort to understand everyone around him.
However, Deku wasn't saved by his love interest, or even his childhood friend who is apparently his destined rival, he was saved by Iida trying his best to keep up with him.
Spinner and Shigaraki are both the emotional core of the league in different ways. The league all respects Shigaraki, they rally around his ideas, his dreams are what inspire everybody. However, more and more it's looking like Spinner, ordinary, average, Spinner is working to build emotional connections to everyone in a much more normal way. He talks to Toga and tries to understand her love. He even consoles Toga when twice is gone. He challenges Shigaraki directly to his face. Compress who is always sort of watching the league in the background and checking up on them in little ways notices how hard that Spinner is trying to take care of Shigaraki.
Shigaraki accepts people at their worst and gives them a place to belong, but I think by Spinner's efforts to get to know and understand others, we as an audience are shown how humanizing of a presence that Spinner is on everyone else. Spinner, just being a normal guy, brings out the fact that the rest of the league despite their extraordinary circumstances are deep down just normal people to, who want to be loved normally, and live normally. Spinner literally wakes up Shigaraki, because he remembered the one time that he opened up in front of all of them, and cares enough to try to understand Shigaraki's hurt feelings and what he cares about.
If anything from the last arc in the manga, we're shown at great length, how understanding, reaching out, it all takes effort and it's not as flashy as defeating a villain or rescuing someone from a natural disaster.
Spinner is so important to Shigaraki, because while Shigaraki has given everyone in the group a place where they can be individuals, Shigaraki hasn't realized he himself can be an individual yet. He ultimately, shares the same character flaw as Deku. It's because he's decided that he's going to carry out his dreams for the sake of the league and to create a better future for them, that Shigaraki no longer cares what happens to himself, or about his own future. Everyone talks about Dabi's suicidal nature, but this is something that Shigaraki is challenged on over and over again. What are your motivations. What are your reasons. What do you want to accomplish. He always responds with nothing. There's nothing that he wants, there's nothing worth living for, he only wants to destroy and make a better world for the people who are around him. Shigaraki is the most thoroughly dehumanized character, to the point where he just straight up accepts "god of destruction" because that is at least an identity. Shigaraki needs Spinner and his normalizing influence, because Shigaraki can't see himself as a normal person.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki shares the same character flaw as Deku, he does everything for the sake of others, with no regard to himself, which leads to extreme bouts of self-harming and fighting alone. Shigaraki faced off against Endeavor, and basically all the heroes alone even though he did call for backup. However, even before that Shigaraki made the decision to get dangerous risky surgery that would be like hell, because he believed deep down he wasn't good enough alone. Shigaraki just does not care about himself and is unable to see himself as an individual, which is exactly why he needs someone to care for him and see him that way.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki's greatest challenge to date is that he's been dehumanized so thoroughly, and lost sight of himself to the point where he's lost even his own body autonomy. When Shigaraki is battling for possession of his body as AFO attempts to take total control and make him into a symbol again, denying him his personhood, we're set up directly with Spinner being the one who reminds us that Shigaraki is just a person, who likes video games, and gets along with his friends. It's Spinner who notices right away that AFO is different from Shigaraki and challenges him the same way that he challenged Shigaraki directly in the My VIllain Academia arc. This is all set up most likely, for Spinner being the one to reach out a hand the same way IIDA did, because what Shigaraki needs the most right now, is not a hero who will save him, but rather a normal person who will understand him and remind him that deep down he was just a normal kid too before all of this happened. What Shigaraki is most in need of is a hand that will reach out to him, and Spinner has already done this once putting Nana's hand back on his face when he couldn't wake up, but what he's failed to realize is that it's his own scaly lizard hands that should be doing the reaching out.

he goes back to the start of the series. has to get the league together again. Finding the established villains (Twice, Mr. Compress, Magne) is easy. Giran can probably locate the already-criming Toga and Dabi without too much difficulty.
But Spinner—Shigaraki has to go get no-criminal-background hikikomori loser nerd Spinner from his backwater rural town himself...
