Ramses II's sarcophagus can be shown in Paris after a rare journey from Egypt.
Ramses II, the Pharaoh of Egypt, has long captivated the hearts and minds of the French people, inspiring similarities to Louis XIV, the Sun King of France.
Visitors to Paris museums can now see the ruler's sarcophagus, which is thought to be more than 3,000 years old, for the first time in almost 50 years. The ancient coffin has travelled outside of Egypt for the first time ever to the Grande Halle de la Villette, where it will be on exhibit through the end of September.
Ramses is always mentioned when a French person is asked to name a pharaoh, according to Egyptologist Dominique Farout, the exhibition's organiser. He is comparable to Louis XIV in terms of grandeur and prominence, in our opinion.
The cedar wood coffin depicts the lying King clutching two throne sceptres while his arms are crossed over his chest. His lips are sealed but his large, rounded eyes are open. A uraeus, a holy serpent frequently seen on Egyptian kings, is carved into the crown of his head.
The worn-out yellow paint on the bare wooden sculpture makes it appear unfit for a monarch, let alone the head of a powerful civilization. But according to archaeologists, it previously had intricate gilding and expensive stone and glass inlay. According to the American Society of Archaeologists in Egypt, at a time of political and economic unrest in Egypt, these may have been stolen from the sarcophagus by the High Priests of Amun who claimed to be guarding the tombs.
If you're looking for Egypt tours that will help you get away from it all, look no further than Egypt.
Egypt shore excursions are the perfect way to see the most famous landmarks in Egypt.
We offer a wide range of Alexandria shore excursions, from half-day excursions to full-day trips, and everything in between.
Our Safaga shore excursions will take you through the streets of Cairo, where you'll be able to see some of the most famous landmarks in Egypt.
You'll get to see the Pyramids, which are one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World with our Sokhna shore excursions.
our Sharm el Shiekh shore excursions also help you discover modern-day Egypt's cities, beaches and mountains.
Port said shore excursions are a great way to explore the country's rich history and culture.
