I had this question in my mind for few days now but.. how many AUs have you made up for both Subnautica games?
I'm really curious because I started writing down all the ones that ever came on my mind (I have twelve now) - I wrote them into a Word document and some even have a description
I mean like the medieval, college.. any kind of au
hmmm actually i don't have that many? wait no nevermind. i just counted there's at least 8 counting survivors KABDKABFOHA
ANYWAYS here's a brief rundown of all my aus! once again long post so its under a read more. because by brief i mean at least a paragraph per au because im bad at being brief.
survivors
so this is the au im currently writing for! degasi lives, avery lives, various aurora crew live and they save the planet from the kharra a few times and raise some sea emp babies. big found family and some literal just family. some murder on the side too but that's not important found family only. probably the only one of this list that's ever to be properly written and finished.
melon and the coconut + dreamland
avery/bart centrenic au, partly based on an alteration of survivors where only they live. bart lives in his own fantasy of different outcomes to events, dreaming of something else. avery grows distant and bitter with bart's unwillingness to accept what's happened, and starts to blame him for everything. eventually the two drift apart so much that they barely interact, and avery leaves bart's base to build his own. bart never goes after him, and avery never purposely looks for him again. i got obsessed with glass animals + specifically these two songs so i daydreamed an au up. saddest out of all these i think :(
keen au
its keen sole survivor au babey!! according to 🌟realism🌟 most ppl don't live if they pass out for longer than like an hour (that does not include sitting in a small area w a fire and smoke for 3+ hours) so ryley uhhh Dies. keen doesn't go back to the aurora w/ yu and ends up being the only survivor. bc im a sucker for bart lives that might be a thing, perhaps not, it depends on my mood half way through.
ghost au
main plot of game with only on the crater, but everyone else is a ghost now and haunt ryley. ghosts can see ryley, ryley can see ghosts, ghosts cannot see each other, although they can occasionally hear each other if the people in question were close before they died. mostly just subnautica but ryley befriends dead people.
horror au
survivors but like….. mutations with WAY WORSE consequences and all the effects of the kharra that i forgot about. did you know the kharra causes aggression? because i did not. its mentioned in like 1 log and i totally forgot. living in complete isolation for 10 years and believing everyone you know is dead, and blaming yourself for the future deaths u know are coming? being able to hear a goddamn mile around you at all times while still having mostly the same normal human eardrums? being able to stop yours and others hearts AT ANY TIME WITH NO CONTROL OVER THIS AT ALL?
these powers fuck them up a lot more in this variation. also ocean scary. but mostly mutations and kharra and everything messes up everything for everyone.
paul fucking dies au
everything's the same up until the landslide at the first island base, where the degasi were inside when that giant boulder crashed into it. bart and marg escape but paul dies. whoops! never thought too hard about this one but marg probably makes all decisions, they explore further, maybe meet sea mama?? and stop the aurora + sunbeam from crashing?? hmmmm. but yeah just paul dies faster.
degasi in arctic au
the entire degasi ends up floating out to sector zero and marg is not alone! bart adopts preston. that is literally all i've thought about in this au, the base premise of it and bart adopts a dog.
evil bart au
bart….. but no longer Baby. bart is now Feral and Rabid. kind of a bad title bc hes not like, intentionally evil, but he makes some fucked up decisions and ppl die. basically the very original plot of survivors where bart gets obsessed with finding sea mama and curing the planet that Nothing Will Stop Him. destroys precursor stuff to stop the others from interacting w it and finding out anything, specifically lets micah and beatrix die bc they spoke out about him too much, probably lets danby die instead of helping him, probably partly responsible for paul's death similar to the very first degasi logs. havent thought about it in a long while so i dont remember much about it other than bart was evil. not rlly an au as opposed to a strange character choice for him that i ended up not liking, so prob the only one on here ill def never write out but hey figured id list it anyways
and i think that's all?? all of the ones i could remember or bothered to write down at least lol. got me a big list!!! :o

Show Notes 103 "Magnetism"
Agents, you are getting sleepy… Very sleepy…
Click play on the player above to listen to this week’s episode while you read, if you so choose.
Wow! We covered so much this week! Where to start… Where to start…
Well, first of all, we had a lovely Warehouse Agent from our Patreon page where people can be Patrons for our show (Hey, did I mention we have a Patreon) introduce us!
This week’s Warehouse Agent was a representative from Emp-RSS.com, an online presence dedicated to empowering women to find their voice and providing mentors for young women entering the workforce. I can’t think of a Patron more appropriate to Myka’s arc this episode.
So, the first thing we had questions about was what all the jurisdictions were for the Secret Service, CIA, FBI, and NSA. I linked the answers above, They’re pretty dry, BUT—
The interesting thing I found—as a person who is decidedly NOT a law enforcement agent or a lawyer—is that basically the Secret Service’s jurisdiction is basically whatever protects presidents, vice presidents, former presidents and their spouses and children. Unlike other agencies that have geologically defined jurisdictions, the Secret Service’s jurisdiction seems pretty vague. I can definitely see how that could be exploited by the Warehouse. Pete and Myka are technically protecting those people but also protecting, like, literally everyone else in the world. LOL.
The episode opened with Pete and Myka in France taking the blade of the guillotine that took the life (and head!) of Marie Antoinette. Want to know more about Marie Antoinette and her grizzly end? Boy, oh boy do the History Chicks have you covered! They have an amazingly detailed and informative two part episode dedicated to her fascinating life—there was much more to her than a beheading and a misquote about some cake (Part 1, Part 2). The link to each part links to the audio for each episode as well as the show notes for each respective section. Don’t worry about the fact that the episode is called a “reboot.” You’re not missing something. The first episode of the History Chicks ever recorded was about Marie Antoinette, and it was very poor audio quality. They deleted the original file, re-recorded the episode, and included new information the second time around—hence, reboot.
Still not enough Marie? Don’t worry! There’s more! On the History Chicks’ side podcast, The Recappery, they recap the 2006 film, Marie Antoinette. That episode is also a two-parter (Part 1, Part 2).
There are so many emotional moments in Marie Antoinette’s life that could have led to the creation of artifacts. The History Chicks cover those and anything else you want to know, too! They did a series of Biography Channel mini-documentaries on famous historical women. Three(!) of them focused on Marie Antoinette: a general one about her life, one about the scandalous but rarely discussed affair of the diamond necklace, and one about her small house called the Petit Trianon on the grounds of Versailles.
Moving on, we talked about the famous Mission Impossible scene that Pete was attempting to imitate with perhaps, ahem, a tad less grace. This is the image we were talking about:
Miranda brilliantly discussed the importance of Affect Theory to the Warehouse and its artifacts. Here’s a very brief overview about that.
Miranda made a reference to the purple goo shower that Artie inflicted on Myka and Pete being like slime. For those who didn’t grow up watching the American television network, Nickelodeon, here’s what you need to know about getting slimed. It was a huge thing when we were growing up. On kid/family game shows on Nick (the affectionate slang name for Nickelodeon Network), contestants who lost or got a wrong answer or who won a prize were punished/rewarded with being slimed—i.e. having green goo rained down upon you from above. Why were punishments and rewards both related to slime??? 1) Because it’s always funny to see adults have copious amounts of green goop poured onto adults heads. 2) It supposedly tasted like vanilla pudding!
To this day, adults attending or presenting at the Kids Choice Awards (presented by Nick) should be wary…anybody can be slimed.
We also mentioned that Myka and Jill share a love of True Religion flap-pocket jeans. Here’s what those are.
We talked about the collaborative involvement between M.C. Escher, Nikola Tesla, and Thomas Edison in the early days of the Warehouse.
Tesla and Edison didn’t like each other very much. And the internet is full of links that can fill you in as to why. I wouldn’t even know where to start. So, instead, please enjoy this rap battle between Tesla and Edison from the legendary Epic Rap Battles of History YouTube channel. (I can’t speak for Miranda, but I am totally #TeamTesla).
We also went into a little more detail on M.C. Escher. In particular, we discussed his art works, Relativity and Drawing Hands.
We also discussed his vital contributions to science and to mathematics (Math Link 1, Math Link 2).
Jill also talked about how much second-hand embarrassment she felt when Myka started talking about how much she hated men to Father Braid. Here’s actual footage of Jillian watching that scene.
That scene and earlier discussions of Myka’s feminist rage led to a discussion about the Bechdel Test. The test is a huge part of feminist theory, media studies, and film studies. And, honestly, it’s a super low bar that you’d be astounded how few pieces of media even reach. Want to see if your favorite movie passes the test? Click here! There’s actually a film festival dedicated to celebrating films that pass the test. The theory is not without its critics, however. Many people think that the bar of the Bechdel Test is not high enough and we need to expect more of female representation in media than their mere existence in scenes together and the absence of discussions about men. I’m inclined to agree that we should expect more, but I also think that the Bechdel Test is still a great way to assess if a piece of media is able to do a basic job of representing women on screen. Interested in the criticism? There’s an op-ed from The Washington Post and The Verge that might pique your interest.
When discussing magnetism, with Jill and with our incredible and intelligent guest, Kameron Sanzo, Miranda mentioned her (not really) favorite song (LOL). Here’s that song that asks the ever important question, “Fuckin’ Magnets. How do they work?!”
If you’re actually interested, this is how magnets work.
Anyway…
Other things Miranda discussed with our guest, Kameron Sanzo, include animal magnetism and mesmerism as well as hypnosis. Some cursory information about the founder of Mesmerism, Anton Mesmer, can be found here. A fun exploration of mesmerism can be found in the eleventh episode of the Audible original podcast, Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets, which has been linked before in a previous episode’s show notes, because of its relevance to Spiritualism. You can purchase the podcast from Amazon or with an Audible subscription.
Of course, this episode would not be complete without addressing the creator of this week’s artifact, James Braid. There was some discussion of the similarities and differences between hypnosis and mesmerism especially before and after the development of the scientific method.
Now, I’m not a doctor.
(And yes, I know that fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Parks and Recreation just said “Not a doctor” in the voice from the end credits. Don’t worry, Internet. I’ve provided a clip of that for you, also)
Now that we’ve got that out of the way…
I’m not a doctor and don’t want to seem like I know too much about the evolution and modern usage of hypnosis/hypnotherapy in a medical sense. But what I can say is that—while mesmerism is widely understood by scientists to not be a real thing—hypnotherapy is actually still quite relevant to modern medicine. Its origin may share the outlandish nature of mesmerism. However, there is apparently a difference between traditional and modern hypnosis. There is also a difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy. The Mayo Clinic goes into more detail on the topic as does Psychology Today.
Kameron Sanzo also compared mesmerism and hypnosis with Reiki. Here’s a couple links that provide more information on what Reiki is (Link 1, Link 2).
Finally, we also discussed the use of filmic language and angles and how they can induce feelings of fear and anxiety. No one was better at this than Alfred Hitchcock. Here’s some information on the filmic language he created (high-angle shots, other techniques).
Now, let’s delve into some ~Heavy Themes~
We gave a shout-out to Eddie McClintock to celebrate his 18 years of sobriety! A monumental achievement!
Addiction is a serious issue and if the themes covered in this episode of the podcast or show regarding addiction affected you in any way and you need or want help, here are some links that may provide what you’re looking for.
For substance abuse, please consult Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. If you are a loved one of someone who struggles with alcoholism, there are resources for you, too! Please check out Al-Anon—not to be confused with Alcoholics Anonymous.

ok I gotta know what the fuck happened in Sherlock bc people are FREAKING OUT
so um i don’t know how caught up you are but (spoilers ahead, obviously)
this whole season has seemed off- the characterization, the storytelling, the very jumpy, hole-ridden plot that has not matched up AT ALL with what was foreshadowed previously or really any sort of linear narrative at all, it’s all been a mess. So a lot of people were theorizing there was deliberate alteration going on this season - either we were presented a lie, being told to protect someone’s innocence (alibi theory), or Sherlock had never woken up from the gunshot in HLV/drug trip in TAB and everything was occurring in his mind (EMP theory). This was also backed up by other Fucky Stuff ™ such as really glaring obvious continuity errors that would have required actual effort to create (like walls turning different colors and a painting in 221B being lit up differently at random) and John ignoring his child 99% of the time and Sherlock’s birthday being at the wrong time of year and pretty much every character reusing lines that had previously been Moriarty’s.
theeeeeen, on thursday, the preview of TFP at the BFI was held. no one was required to sign an NDA (Fucky Stuff ™), so spoilers got out, and based on details a lot of BNF started to theorize that the version shown at the screening was incomplete, altered, or even completely fake. this theory was partially based on s4 sharing a tagline (It’s Not Just A Game Anymore) with the Clue movie, which infamously had multiple endings. another theory, based on a line in the show last week (”people always give up after 3″) was that a secret 4th episode would be announced when TFP ended.
yesterday, the episode as shown at the BFI leaked on the site of the Russian channel that airs Sherlock - complete and in HD. earlier today, the Turkish affiliate released it (in English with subtitles this time). and like… the BBC did nothing about it. The showrunners and the official show Twitter tweeted something like “the episode has leaked, please keep the secrets”, but the leaked episodes were not taken down (I literally watched the Turkish one on their site as the TV version was airing in the UK lol) and there was no action taken by a legal team that is normally extraordinarily tight fisted re. this show (according to people who were in the fandom in previous seasons, leaking spoilers could get your blog taken down). So naturally, large portions of the fandom are now convinced it has to be fake, otherwise they would at least act like they care, right?
Well, the show aired and turns out this wasn’t the case. And despite the entire marketing cycle (until this very morning) having been all about how this episode would be GROUNDBREAKING and TELEVISION HISTORY and INSANE WISH FULFILLMENT and TYING UP LOOSE ENDS and CLIMAX OF 7 YEARS OF BUILDUP and so on… it was terrible. I’m not even talking about no Johnlock:
the whole thing started with just writing off last week’s cliffhanger in one majorly underwhelming sentence
the entire plot was a reach; any “buildup” we got for it occurred exclusively in s4, not over the whole series arc
it also involved playing the “mental illness = danger to society” trope for shits and giggles so there’s that
there were multiple gaping, obvious plotholes in the same vein as the earlier s4 episodes (and none of those holes were stitched up including but not limited to:
the main characters surviving an explosion that resulted in a fall from an upstairs window with NO injury whatsoever
John being chained up in a well and then the chains magically disappearing one transition later
Sherlock’s villain!sister being able to control people’s minds, apparently
and Sherlock being able to apparently enter HER mind/the whole airplane thing just doesn’t add up)
there was a lot of ridiculous, over-the-top pastiche of horror movies like saw and ring
3 Garridebs, perhaps the most emotional climax in the ACD canon, was completely squandered - played for laughs with nothing of the original plot retained beyond names
Victor Trevor, another story fans have been expecting would be a Big Moment if it was adapted, was almost an afterthought despite being the point of the whole episode - we got no real info on who he was, his relationship to Sherlock, or really even why Euros killed him
all the buildup about Moriarty went nowhere meaningful either
the love confession from the trailer was coerced and actually ruined Sherlock’s relationship with the person he said it to (Molly)
the cinematography and visual style characteristic of the show were almost completely absent
there was little to no variety of location, the sets used in the lion’s share of the episode looked cheap, and there were almost no special or practical effects (unlike every other episode) and what was there was cheap and terrible looking
despite being promised “loads of new music, every note composed with love” by the composers themselves, there was maybe one cue that was not an exact copy of music from earlier episodes
at the end of the episode, a voiceover from Mary (who died two episodes ago I might add) says that “it’s not who you really are that matters, it’s the story, the legend” as the series’ Big Ending Moment when literally every episode up to this point has been about the exact opposite of that so yeah that felt cheap af
there was a lot of other just over-the-top stuff like Sherlock commandeering a boat in the most ridiculous manner ever and creepy clowns and portraits crying blood and umbrellaswordgun and Elephant Glass and Uncle Rudy and and and and
and the “seems fake but ok” nature of the last two episodes continued to be the case in this one
and yeah okay after last week when J&S finally got back together as friends with dead!Mary imploring John to be the man he wants to be and John telling Sherlock that romance would complete him as a person and The Hug, yeah, not getting Johnlock was pretty surprising considering that these writers have been outspokenly pro-textual gays and anti-queerbaiting in many panels and interviews they’ve given
We got no real answers for any of the existing questions, opened up a lot more, and the whole thing felt cheap and poorly thought out. so yeah even though my life doesn’t hinge on canon johnlock like a lot of fans, I still feel ripped off because this thing was a hot goddamn mess. TAB + S4 have also included what at least seemed to be some really obvious shoutouts to TJLC theories, and of course they noticed, so they’re feeling REALLY led on. And since it was strongly implied during publicity that this was either the last season ever, or at least the last one for a realllllllllllllly long time (i’d guess 5+ years) they are going stark raving mad thinking this is all they’re going to get, that this mess is where Moftiss really intend to end this. (There were no extra scenes, nor has there been any announcement thus far about a secret/bonus episode.)
Moffatt actually said in an interview earlier this year that TFP was the single piece of his writing that he was most proud of and like if that’s true… then every negative opinion people have of him is totally, completely, and absolutely justified because this episode was unequivocally trash.
