its ya boy, 🎲 anon (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ with genshin impact headcannons this time!!
ichika straight up refuses to play genshin for no logical reason. (source: i was this like 6 months ago and now i have an average of 1.5h+ in genshin a day)
shiho is very secretly into genshin. shes a chongyun main. no she doesnt watch that one streamer. also she despises whales and has no c6s. or c5s. or c4s. or c3s. shes only a chongyun main because she has c2 chongyun and xingqu and she doesnt have the heart to seperate the boyfriends.
saki has the most incoherent horribly unbalenced teams. what is an elemental reaction. also she has no impulse control and 0 primos constantly.
honami doesnt play genshin but she can recite almost the entirety of raiden ei's story quest from the top of her head (because shiho cried in it and wont let it go.)
airi is the only mmj member who plays genshin. she is ar 55 and has streamed genshin pulling in the past. shes not a whale but her viewers are and theyre convinced that yelling "motto motto jump high" in the twitch tts will bless her pulls. it does not. she threw a chair once after losing the fourth 50/50 in a row. hey, at least she has c6 diluc and mona?
kohane doesnt play genshin but she does play honkai! shes kinda shit at it but sticks around for yaoi and dang heng's voice (me too girliepops me too)
toya has only missed 4 days of login in the whole of genshins lifespan. hes entirely f2p. he has all the lore memorised. he predicted natlans release date 3 months before it was announced. if he didnt live with haramuchi hed probably do cosplay. he has c6 furina and got it in 80 pulls. noone believes him. hes max ar. its so intense. he has posters. he has every achievement. hes done every character quest. yeah.
akito is horrific at genshin. like really bad. hes only up to the start of fontaine bc he saw the court scene and decided to replay the ace attorney trilogy. hes a kirara main and doesnt know what elemental reactions are. kinda like saki he has no impulse control and constantly has 0 primos but he has a toya who stole his account info and will grind for him simply bc theres nothing left for him to do on his main.
tsukasa has an account. it functions as saki and toyas reroll account. mostly sakis because toya has impulse control. he has never actually played the game.
nene is an avid genshin player and was ashamed of it at first but now she has keyrings of visions and shit. shes also actual shit at the game itself. shes there for lore, characters and gambling. she has matching albedo/fischl/sucrose pfps with rui and mizuki
rui got genshin bc mizuki played and actually got really into it. hes a childe main but has matching albedo/fischl/sucrose pfps with mizuki and nene.
mizuki plays genshin 100%. theyre unironically really good at it. fischl main though chiori is a close second. matching albedo/fischl/sucrose pfps with rui and nene! (i should specify, not as a ship. like buddies. besties even.) friends in-app with shiho's totally secret account thats not called sbibo or anything. they bonded over crying in raiden ei's character quest. tragic siblings or smth.
ena is a genshin player but only because airi made her get it so she didnt have to stream alone. shes a kaveh main. reads fanfiction. ao3 search history between her and god. arllechino simp. the works.
mafuyu doesnt get to play much but she does sometimes. shes a ganyu main and spends an awful lot of time critiquing the bow users. when sethos came out she cheered in vc. (hes the only one who uses it correctly)
bonus: npcs!!
mio plays genshin!! shes a noelle main and has c5 on her.
nanami plays genshin only when her chat demands it, but shes played with airi before! they failed at windtrace together
kotaro got genshin after hearing toya ramble about it and doesnt really get it. he never got past mondstat but he did watch a 4 hour plot summary and proceeded to understand none of it
yuuki plays online with mizuki a lot but other than that doesnt play much

https-furina’s 2023 genshin impact recap !!
Tumblr media
2023 is officially about to end so i wanted to go over my genshin account and all the progress i’ve made this year. this isn’t a brag post ! i want to record my progress especially since i took a year break and a lot of things have changed. maybe you want to do this too?
this is like an insight into my genshin account if you guys just want to be nosey.. ehe. let’s get started (it’s gonna be long !!)
i started genshin in march 2021 !! i took a break from september 2021 to april 2023 however i came online multiple times during 2022, i just didn’t stay for good. i came back this april (with no specific date.) i came back with no 100% map, way too many quests, no fully ascended characters, no lvl10 friendships and no built characters.
this year i have fully ascended diluc, hu tao, lyney, zhongli, furina, kazuha, wanderer, heizou, cyno, alhaitham, nilou, kaeya, xingqiu, miko, jean, diona, ganyu & childe !!
the first character to be fully ascended & lvl90 was diluc !!
these characters have reached lvl90: diluc, hu tao, cyno, alhaitham, zhongli, heizou, wanderer, kazuha & nilou.
these characters have reached lvl10 friendship: diluc, hu tao, lyney, furina, kazuha, wanderer, heizou, alhaitham, nilou, miko, diona & chongyun.
when i came back i had three 5* weapons: wolfs gravestone and 2x aquila favonia.
i now have: r2 wolfs gravestone, 2x aquila favonia, 3x skyward harp, r3 lost prayers, r1 lost prayers, r2 vortex vanquisher, staff of scarlet sands, splendor of tranquil waters & staff of homa.
these characters are built to my satisfication (and i’ve probably used in spiral abyss): hu tao, alhaitham, nilou, kazuha, furina, zhongli, heizou, ganyu, shenhe, miko, layla, wanderer, xingqiu, shinobu, qiqi, baizhu, collei, lyney, cyno & ayaka
who do i think my best builds are? cyno, ayaka, heizou, zhongli, furina, kazuha & hu tao.
i came back on spiral floor 6-1 and 2023 is ending on spiral floor 11-3.
5* characters that i’ve obtained this year are shenhe, jean, miko, alhaitham, wanderer, dehya, lyney, hu tao, wriothesley, venti, furina, cyno, ayaka, navia, nilou & baizhu.
4* characters that i’ve obtained this year are gorou, thoma, yun jin, heizou, lynette, freminet, charlotte, faruzan, layla, collei, yaoyao, kirara, kaveh, candace, shinobu, mika & dori.
5* cons i’ve acquired this year: c2 zhongli, c3/c4/c5/c6 diluc, c1/c2 jean, c2/c3 mona, c2 qiqi, c2 keqing, c1 dehya, c1 ayaka.
characters i have c6 (not necessarily from this year alone): diluc, diona, chongyun, kirara, xinyan, barbara, rosaria, kaveh, xingqiu, yanfei, xiangling, razor, thoma, sucrose, beidou, sayu, charlotte, dori.
i’m missing neuvillette, yelan, ayato, kokomi, raiden (not for long), xiao, klee, albedo, itto, nahida, eula & tighnari.
story quests i’ve finished this year: raiden shogun (both acts), yoimiya (both acts), zhongli (act 2), lyney, furina, wriothesley, neuvillette, nahida (act 1), baizhu, kokomi, itto, tighnari, nilou, cyno, eula, ayaka, ayato, kazuha, miko, alhaitham.
hangouts i’ve completed (not necessarily this year): heizou, gorou, thoma, barbara, noelle, bennett, chongyun, diona, faruzan, kaveh, shinobu, ningguang.
my favourite story quests are neuvillette, lyney, tighnari, zhongli, yelan, cyno.
my favourite hangouts are heizou, gorou, faruzan, thoma.
i have four areas left to 100% on my map (previously, i hadn't 100% any areas.) i have a total of 789 achievements done! i have maxed three out of five statues. i have maxed three reputations; mondstadt, liyue and fontaine. i have maxed the frostbearing tree and the sacred sakura! my favourite areas to explore was the hypostyle desert, dragonspine and tsurumi island! my favourite nations are fontaine & inazuma. my favourite nation osts are liyue, sumeru & inazuma.
i came back in april 2023 as a diluc, diona & chongyun main. i am ending december 2023 as a hu tao, zhongli, ayaka & heizou main.
i am ending 2023 on ar57!
questions for 2024: hoyo, where's dain? /hj but also, why do i have a really uneasy feeling that celestia is watching our every move?

PA Video Games
I like cozying up with games as the weather gets colder almost as much as I like cozying up with books. Here’s some ideas to Pink-ify Pokémon, Animal Crossing and Genshin Impact!
Sorry for the mobile-standard editing!
Let me know if you’d love to see any other games!
Pokémon
- contests! Contests are Pokémon beauty pageants, and you strategise your moves and aesthetics.
- Fairy types- they’re largely cute and pink, so you know we have to have a fairy bias here.
- Psychic types- there’s a lot of cute, pink psychic types too, and they have the association of the mind. Pretty and intelligent aka goals
- Customising your character- Serena from X and Y is a total fashion girl, but there are some options in other games too.
- Research the lore and origins of your faves! Pokemon are often inspired by different cultures and myths, so the games are a fun way to learn something new.
Animal Crossing
- You could have a study or office in your house with a book stand, stack of books and an essay set.
- Outside, you can do the perfect park for sitting and reading with flowers and trees and iron garden benches and some of the statues!
- You could add areas such as an amphitheater or outdoor exhibitors at your museum- perhaps a book fair?
- There are a tonne of pink villagers to pick from (my fave is Flora!) but some PA faves of mine include Ankha, Audie, Cookie, and Diana.
- Turn your villagers’ houses into schools, beauty parlours, cafes, and anything else that suits your brand of Pink
Genshin Impact
The most PA characters in my opinion are:
- Lisa, the librarian in a cute outfit who drinks high tea
- Amber, who is always ready to help and up for a challenge
- Beidou, a fleet captain for all the girlboss enjoyers
- Yae Miko, who owns a publishing house
- Xiangling, a head chef who loves to try new things
- Noelle, a maid who dreams of being a knight
As always, let me know if you have any other ideas!

✎ Filipino Headcanons | Genshin Impact
↠ Featuring: Look at the Tags :)
↠ Humor + Fluff | Headcanons
↠ Before You Read:
more headcanons because i can and it's funny and i lowkey miss face to face classes ಥ‿ಥ also because im trying to pull out more filos that hang around tumblr, LET'S ALL VIBE FAM.
all based on what i experienced in jhs because shs decided to be online. they're stupid, but they're also the little things i miss ಥ‿ಥ i also tried to be more inclusive of everybody or almost everybody-
↠ Rules for Requesting | Masterlist
Tumblr media
• rosaria is the girl that takes no bs from any of the guys in your class and has no problem revealing embarrassing secrets to other girls from other sections about the guys *ahem, tohma, kaeya childe, ahem* that have a crush on them.
• kaeya pokes you with the rolled up cartolina he buys from the canteen and when it gets crumpled, rosaria makes him go buy another one but not before hitting him with it too.
• kaeya also as the guy who goes around asking for materials from another group to bring to you so you wouldnt asterisk his name in the final submission.
• kazuha who has a lot of female friends because they gossip to him and he is very invested.
• albedo getting excused from class frequently for science contests. he reaches all the way to nationals too, everyone whines when he gets exempted from the science exam.
• student police head scaramouche. he lets his friends get away with wearing improper uniform under their jackets during checking in the morning.
• class pres. jean and vice pres. lisa, who gets mad at the class for jean.
• klee, diona and qiqi are the teachers' kids that they take with them to the classroom.
klee sits on albedo's lap and he lets her draw over his notes.
diona reads over kaeya's answers to the activity and giggles, pretending they're wrong before proceeding to look at everyone's answer.
qiqi is content with watching movies while sitting at the teacher's desk.
• sucrose, noelle and barbara have literally anything and everything in their bags. complete notes too, you can bet everyone has at least one picture of one page of their notes at the end of every quarter.
• beidou, tohma, kaeya, childe, scaramouche, and rosaria. you'd think they don't have breakfast at home because first subject and they're eating siomai rice from the canteen already.
• tohma sees you at the front of the line in the canteen and he automatically goes to you, totally disregarding the other people in line even if you arent close 😭😂.
• ningguang terror leader. just show up on time for practices, actually cooperate and pull your weight and she'll be good.
• during free subjects, xiao lets you rest your head on the arm of his chair.
• albedo or zhongli staying back after class helping you make the props for the class presentation.
• childe forgets his book / module at home, so he shares with you, leaning over until you prop it between your armchairs.
• xiao letting you rest your head on his shoulder on the jeep on your way home.
• childe/tohma/kaeya forgetting their umbrellas at home and suddenly ducking under yours because you have the same jeepney station and his friends are left fending for themselves in the rain.
• xiao/albedo with bracelets and those rubber arm band things - im not sure what they're called - and are reminders of contests they've won and souvenirs for places they went to for competitions.
• we've never had a prom :(( what's it like :((
• diluc is quiet, but has derpy pictures of everybody that he posts on their birthday as a greeting. xiao too. and albedo. they make it a contest to see who has the most in their gallery by the end of the year.
• additionally, kaeya, childe and tohma (lovingly being labelled as the three idiots) are the ones that volunteer you for competitions because they think you're good at something.
im getting carried away again-

Note
I saw you rebloged the fluff sentence starters list. Could you write something for Albedo with “When you were drunk last night you kept telling me I kiss better than anyone, and I don’t know why since we’ve never kissed before.” and “What are your favorite petnames?”. These knocked me out of my motorcycle (figuratively).
Tumblr media
Prompts: “when you were drunk last night you told me I kiss better than anyone, and I don’t know why since we’ve never kissed before.” And, “what are your favorite pet names”
Warnings: mentions of alcohol, very minor cursing, and probably grammatical errors
Game/ fandom: genshin impact
Character: albedo (kaeya’s thrown in there, but as a side character)
Pronouns for reader: gender neutral/ not mentioned
A/n: hello, and thank you for requesting! This one was a bit difficult, because... I can’t drink lmao. And it’s a bit different than what I usually do, so I hope you all like the small change! Have a peaceful day/afternoon/night, and take care of yourself!
Tumblr media
It was no secret to the people of mondstadt how much you liked albedo. The way you would look at him with adoration, it was the subtle changes in your whole demeanor that let people know how much you liked him. Though no one knew how he hasn’t caught on by now. Or maybe he has? Maybe he’s just curious to see how long this will go on for? Or maybe he’s too nervous to make the first move. Nonetheless he still invited you to go drinking with him and kaeya.
Albedo wasn’t much of a drinker by any means, but when kaeya invited him one night, he might as well have another close friend with him. Kaeya didn’t mind, in fact he gave albedo the idea. Though you told them that you’d run a bit late due to having to clean up at the knights headquarters with noelle. They both understood, and waited patiently for you.
Well... sort of. Kaeya ordered some drinks for the both of them while they waited for you. Albedo ordered some dandelion wine, curious about what made it so special. He found that he really liked it, and got another glass. Still waiting or you.
Anyone who frequented angels share could a whole bottle of drink dandelion wine with ease. Though albedo was no regular, he’s probably had 2 glasses of wine in his whole life (not including the two he’s had tonight.) so he got... a bit tipsy. Even before you arrived.
After about a total of 15 minutes you arrived to see the cavalry captain and the alchemist conversing with one another. You greeted them both before sitting down. “Ah y/n, glad you could make it.” Kaeya said with a smile. “Oh... y/n... hello.” Albedo said, even in his drunken state he was still polite.
You were having casual conversation until kaeya asked, “Y/n, do you want anything to drink? I can go ask Diluc to make you something.” You contemplated for a minute before saying, “some cider would be nice?” Kaeya nodded and excused himself.
You were left alone with albedo, and made casual conversation. You could tell he was a bit tipsy, but he still answered casual questions, so you knew he wasn’t that tipsy. What you didn’t know though was that albedo felt a sudden burst of confidence. And a sudden incline in his adoration for you. “I think one of my favorite places in mondstadt is-“ you were saying before you were cut off by albedo saying, “what’s your favorite pet name?”
The shock on your face was so clear that kaeya could see it from across the bar. Albedo looked as calm as ever though. “Um... I’m.. ok... hold on let me compose myself.” You said not wanting to make yourself seem like a fool. “Well um... I guess I don’t have a favorite...?” Albedo though for a moment.
Was this his way of flirting with you? Or was he way more drunk than you expected? There was truly no way to tell. At least not until you both were walking home together. Kaeya lived in the other direction, so it was just you and albedo. You were making casual conversation once more, at least until albedo spoke up once more.
“And that’s why I think honey toast is over rated“ you were on a tangent until albedo stopped you, “you kiss better than anyone.” He said, with a straight face. “...” “...” “what the fuck” you said after a few seconds of silence. “Are you... are you drunk? Like... drunk drunk.” You said actually concerned now. Albedo has never shown interest in you, and never said anything like this to anyone that you know of. So why now? And why to you?
“Mm... no? Yes? I had some dandelion wine? But... that was it?” Albedo said recalling the night. “Right... well... I’m going home. I’ll see you at work tomorrow.” You bid farewell to the alchemist who was... sad. Sad to see you leave. He didn’t know why but, he didn’t want you to leave. Though he didn’t have much courage in him left, so he made his way home.
The next day at the knights headquarters, you needed to drop something off for albedo straight from Jean. What he said yesterday has been bothering you since you arrived home last night. You could recall it like it happened moments ago, the memory fresh, and as clear as ever. You thought you should confront him about it. You weren’t mad, or uncomfortable. Just confused.
You knocked on the door of albedos office asking to come in. All you hear was a ‘yes.’ And made your way into the room. “Ah y/n, do you need something?” Albedo said. “Well yes I have the papers from Jean and uh...” you said looking straight into his bright blue eyes “what happened last night?” His face turned to one of curiosity and confusion.
“I don’t know what you mean?” Albedo said taking the papers from your hand and examining them. “I mean when you were drunk last night you told me I kiss better than anyone, and I don’t know why since we’ve never kissed before?” You said as he turned his head towards you, and away from the papers in his hand.
“I... deepest apologies... I don’t know what came over me last night.” He said a blush dusting his cheeks. “Oh no it’s alright I just... was confused.” You said almost... disappointed? Maybe you were hoping he’d say something more, or make some sort of move. Just something. “Well... would it be alright if I tried again tonight? We don’t have to go to angels share but... may I try to... take you on a date?” He said, almost not thinking.
His words filled the room, making the atmosphere feel almost foreign between the two of you. It was a amazing surprise but, a surprise nonetheless. You almost chocked on air when he said that, but after regaining your composure you said, “yes, I’d... I’d really like that.” A smile spread across his face and his eyes grew full of fondness.
“Hm... then it’s settled. We can talk about it as we do what Jean asked of me, that is if you’d like to help?” He said turning back to look at the papers. “Yeah... I’ll help you, I don’t have much other to do around here at the moment.” You said with a laugh. You felt excitement running through your whole body, excited for your date tonight.

what if... genshin impact persona au...
bear with me, there are like five videogames in total that i've ever been obsessed with and these two are among them and the mechanics fit together surprisingly nicely (this is all i have for now but i might elaborate more in the future)
similarly to p3, you can still chose aether or lumine as the protag; they have different starter personas, as well as slightly different choice options and character interactions
it's the reverse of p3; lumine is quiet, reserved and elegant, kind of mysterious as the protagonist, while aether sounds more upbeat and energetic and he's more likely to jump into action
paimon is igor's assistant in the velvet room
dainsleif could be there as well, but he'd either perform a different task than paimon (think marie from p4) or have an occasional cameo or be a lumine-only option like theodore
visions get swapped out for inheritance types depending on their element/elemental skill/burst effects
persona franchise ready has physical, fire, ice, wind and electricity (those are self-explanatory), but a healer like barbara or even noelle would absoloutely need to have bless type skills
since genshin has only five types of weapons, some characters would have to swap out (someone like jean would look absolutely stunning with a rapier and i stand by it)
first mission team could consist either of starter characters (protag, kaeya, lisa, amber) or prologue quest characters (protag, diluc, jean, venti); either way, dvalin is the main shadow there
i'm leaning towards the latter because, personal bias aside, i see lisa, sucrose and albedo as confidants who sell you stuff like medicine and weapons (think iwai and takemi)
characters i see as definite party members are amber, jean, kaeya, diluc, eula and mona (because mona would make the best navi ever, fight me)
other potential party members are venti, lisa, albedo, xiao, zhongli, rosaria, keqing, ganyu and beidou (some of these characters could easily pull off noncombat roles, some i can't quite picture working alongside mondstadt's characters and some don't have story quests yet)
i'm thinking that tartaglia should get his own shadow boss battle and persona as well because??? c'mon, he could easily blend into p5's cast! he even has a mask!!! (oh, and he's definitely the shady foreign transfer student)
characters who didn't make cut for persona havers would still be relevant as social links
venti is the token link that levels up as the story progresses, as well as the token nonhuman character (perhaps zhongli would be one as well, except his revelation comes like mid-story)
personas are named after deities maybe??
similarly to p5, we get characters change outfits once they step into abyss, which is this au's equivalent of metaverse/tartarus/midnight channel
knights of favonius could be something similar to s.e.e.s (diluc is still a former member)
[[ edit: fixed some grammar and spelling (hopefully everything) and elaborated in the reblogs ]]

VII. Adjustments & Optimizations
● System
Spiral Abyss
Starting from the first time that the Blessing of the Abyssal Moon changes after updating to Version 1.4, the two Blessings of the Abyssal Moon will be as follows:
○ Period I: Windward Moon
Characters possess an ATK-increasing Windward Aura that can increase their ATK by a maximum of 60%. For every opponent who steps within the Aura, the Aura's effect is decreased by 25%. When 4 or more opponents are within the Aura, this effect will not provide an ATK increase.
○ Period II: Skyward Moon
Hitting an opponent with a Plunging Attack decreases their DEF by 40% for 10s.
※ There will be no change to the reset times of the Spiral Abyss and Blessing of the Abyssal Moon. These remain the first and sixteenth days of each month, respectively.
Increases the maximum quantity of Condensed Resin that may be held. Travelers may now hold up to 5 Condensed Resin at any one time.
Optimizes the order of item drops: More valuable items will appear earlier in the list.
Optimizes the cooking function: After unlocking Auto Cook, the option Cook Manually remains.
Optimizes the Spiral Abyss challenge: Challenges can be restarted mid-stage; Elemental Resonance effects can be viewed from the character selection screen; adds the option to exit before entering the next floor.
Cooking, crafting, and forging functions remember your previous character selection.
Optimizes Xiao's expression when casting his Elemental Skill.
Optimizes the visual effect in Co-Op Mode when the camera makes contact with a teammate or NPC.
Optimizes camera close-up transitions in some domains and quests.
Optimizes the Original Resin replenishment screen: Travelers can view the quantity of Fragile Resin they own and decide which item to replenish Original Resin with more easily.
When you first download the game client on a mobile device, only the voice-over resources corresponding to your device's system language will be downloaded initially by default. (Example: Devices where the system language is set to English will download only English voice-over resources by default.) When you update the game client on a mobile device, voice-over resources will be downloaded for both the voice-over language corresponding to your device's system language and the currently selected voice-over language in the game. (Example: If your device's system language is set to English and you have selected Japanese voice-over in the game, both English and Japanese voice-over resources will be downloaded when you update the game.)
Travelers can download any additional voice-over languages they wish to use from within the game.

heyyy don’t worry, life gets busy! Hahahaha the whole world of anime bamboozles me anyway because there’s so much going on and so much content to keep up with!!
for seventeen would recommend: Rock with you & Crush from their latest album Attacca. GAM3 BO1 & Anyone from their album Your Choice. Left & Right and also Kidult from Heng:gareae.
for got7: just right (this one is olddd from their first album I think like 7 years ago sjsjs), not by the moon, you calling my name, poison, breath I’ll shut up now! All of them have solo songs too and they’re all honesty amazing in my very biased opinion <3 would recommend Slow Mo from Bambam’s last album, and literally everything Jay B and Yugyeom have released 💀 okay I’ll shut up now fr about them
i loved Coco!!! And yes I would consider those movies! I haven’t seen Encanto yet though. I am honestly struggling to remember the last non/animated movie I watched lmao I think it was Don’t Look Up on Netflix (something about the end of the world and how a meteor was gonna hit earth). Rn I’m watching a crime documentary on Netflix while I’ll finish today probably and I’m slowlyyyy watching Naruto and Hometown Cha Cha (romantic kdrama) so I kinda flip flop between them depending on how I’m feeling.
Nooo I totally get that!!! I like listening to podcasts or video essays when I’m doing other things or just put on a really familiar tv show I’ve watched before to have in the background so I’m not sitting in complete silence lool
Omg…relatable! Nowadays because of the pandemic, I really just work from home, read in my spare time, bake stuff and also rot away online 🤝
YOU KNOW I actually played genshin impact for a while on my phone in my downtime but I stopped playing because some of the challenges were too hard and my party was not strong enough skdbdjsjdw and honestly I just really enjoyed running around and unlocking the teleport waypoints and collecting fruit 💀💀💀 omg who does your party consist of? I usually kept Bennett (my beloved), Kaeya (also my beloved, my son), Lisa & Noelle because they were my strongest and I covered a good range of elements with them - Monbebe Valentine 💕
ohhhhh these r some lovely songs god damn! i really liked rock with you, anyone, not by the moon and you calling my name... straight up saved them ehehe
also i appreciate the passion for sharing your fav song! so thank u -w-
what crime documentary? :o i love that stuff
rotting away online is actually peak human experience akdhjskadhkj good for us (?) B)
omg starting genshin was so fun... the casual exploration was probably the most joyful thing ever ! and i can sorta relate to not having strong enough parties. my characters are just ok.. i don't care. they can get the job done and that's it and i'm happy with it askjdhaskjd
i don't really have a specific party anymore (mainly because i make very disfunctional parties with a bunch of characters who i want to get friendship levels up with)
buuut my 2 main damage dealers are kaeya and ningguan! i love them both to death, i've put the most effort into them, they're my pride and joy and i'm simping for them. hard.
then my best pyro support is xiangling (my baby daughter)
another great support but also a healer - bennet (my baby son)
epic anemo god - venti (absolute creature i adore him)
main geo support - albedo (stole all of my money i hate him)
so yeah i guess my "ideal" team would have kaeya, ningguan, venti and somebody else depending on the situation :p
(back in the days when i didn't spend much primogems my main team was kaeya, amber (replaced by xiangling once i got her), lisa and traveler (replaced by ningguan once i got into liyue lol))

GENSHIN IMPACT VERSE INFO
Kira isn’t actually sure when/how she got her vision (cryo).?? She was really young and just woke up one morning and felt a cold orb nestled close to her. It was the prettiest thing she had ever seen, and somehow it was hers. (in actuality, her mind has blocked out the memory, among others from her childhood, because of how traumatic they were)
Her “adoptive parents” didn’t want her to have it. They probably knew it was a vision and kept taking it from her, telling her that she stole it when she didn’t. She would cry, as that orb was her only friend, only to have it magically return to her every morning.
She didn’t know it was a vision or that it held power until years later when she was 7. Her “adoptive father” found the orb after she hid it for a few years and tried to take it from her, but she refused to let him have it. It was out in the rain, and so when she accidentally used the vision’s power… she froze him.
So she panicked. She thought she killed him with magic, which she didn’t even know existed.!! Part of her hated the orb but she didn’t want to get rid of it, so she took it with her and ran. Varka soon found her and, after just recently losing his own daughter and wife, took the scared little girl in as his adoptive daughter. The two healed together as she grew up with him in the Knights of Favonius.
It was amazing to her to meet other people with orbs like hers that could USE them, and use them for good. So, she wanted to become a knight. However, she had no fighting experience so she helped out in the library. The librarian before Lisa taught her to read and write, and she found out that she loved learning and mastering spells.
She studied swordplay with Varka, hoping she’s soon be able to actually go on missions, like Noelle hopes now. But she’s been “in the knights” for 10 years now (started actually WORKING when she was 13; is 23 now) and still hasn’t gotten to do much but be Lisa’s helper. She finds now that she doesn’t really want to be an actual knight anymore.
Her elemental skill involves her creating two swords of ice (one in each of her hands) that she does a single attack with. They can be stacked over time with a total of 5 possible attacks that could be used one after the other. (in threads, the swords would last longer, but this is just if she were a playable character. Also, a more in-depth explanation can be found in traits)
Her elemental burst involves her creating a snow/hail storm that applies Cryo damage to enemies as well as make the surrounding area so thick with falling snow/hail that monsters can’t see her and thus can’t attack until the storm ends. It also affects any character inside of the storm with the Cryo status, so don’t get wet!! (more in-depth explanation can be found in traits)
Lia is her best friend (THEY ARENT RELATED IN THIS VERSE AND ARE MORE LIKE SISTER FIGURES), and her roommate. She admires Jean, is kind of unsure about Kaeya, works for Lisa, and enjoys talking to Amber.
She uses a catalyst, of course XDD save for that one ice sword move  LOL
Kira’s mother was from Sumeru while her father was actually a knight for Khaenri’ah. Kira doesn’t know this about her lineage, and in fact doesn’t really even know Khaenri’ah exists, save for the fact that there’s a nation that was destroyed long ago (she doesn’t even know the name). This probably won’t come up in threads unless she’s interacting with someone from Khaenri’ah or someone who was around before it fell, because her eyes have that same starred pupil that Kaeya and Dainsleif have (except it’s a little more faded)

I spent some time (and money) playing Genshin Impact
I've spent some time with Genshin Impact over the past few weeks.  (It's probably come to about 60 hours and 60 dollars that I've spent.)
All of the things that need to be said about this game has probably already been said by others: yes, it's very much similar to Zelda: Breath of the Wild in terms of the open world exploration and visuals. It's also a free-to-play gacha game where you have to put money into the slot machine if you want to be guaranteed to get the characters you want, and you have a limited amount of daily stamina to get rewards from certain repeatable content.
The thing that seems to be under-acknowledged is that Genshin Impact is largely two different games: an open-world exploration game that you’re largely free to play through at your own pace, and a “grind to make the numbers go up” game where your progress is mostly limited by daily missions and activities. These two games are sort of intertwined, but I think I’ve managed to decouple the two, and it’s greatly enhanced my ability to enjoy Genshin Impact.
Genshin Impact is at its best when it is an open world game where you wander around, discovering treasure and puzzles and shrines and fighting groups of enemies who are guarding chests.  This is the part that takes after Breath of the Wild: it does a great job of filling the overworld with content in a way that, every time you finish a task, you need only to pan the camera around to see another activity off in the distance that you can do.  And if you don't see anything to do, just climb the nearest mountain and pan the camera around to look for a glowing point of interest.  This, too, is very BotW-esque: you can climb any vertical surface (how high you can climb is limited by your stamina), then jump from the peak using your glider.  Scattered around the world, you will find orbs (usually cleverly hidden within environmental puzzles), and you feed these orbs to a statue in each region to raise your character’s stamina so that you can climb mountains more easily.
Tumblr media
The environment has an incredible amount of verticality, and I had a lot of time in one particularly mountainous region (pictured above), gliding from clifftop to clifftop, then walking around the "mid-tier" of the mountains where everything was connected by suspension bridges, and finally exploring all of the valleys.  And of course, I was constantly switching between the different "tiers" of the environment: I would begin gliding from one clifftop to another, but then I would pan the camera down and see, "ooh, there's a chest down in that valley.  Let me take a 'small detour' to obtain it," and then I would parachute down from the sky before climbing back up to see what other goodies were hidden in the world.
Genshin Impact, like Breath of the Wild, is all about seeing an interesting landmark in the distance, walking in that direction, and repeatedly getting distracted by detours and other smaller points of interest on the way there. You can stumble across a random torch, think “there’s probably a bunch of other torches in this area that will give me a reward if I light all of them,” and you will be right. No matter where you are in the world, there’s always multiple things that you can see in the distance that make you say, “ooh, I want to see what’s over there. I bet I’ll find another korok seed blue wisp.” It’s kind of great.
The thing that it actually does better than BotW is that everything you do in the overworld feels like it is giving you forward progress, whether it’s hunting for hidden treasure or fighting enemies.  In BotW, there are genuinely some enemy encounters where you will just fight a bunch of enemies and afterwards go, "Great, I just wasted half of this sword's durability, and all I have to show for it is a much crappier sword than the one I used to kill these enemies."  In Genshin Impact, there is no weapon durability, and every enemy drops materials that you will eventually use to "ascend" your characters and weapons (essentially raising the level cap), so even time that you spend fighting trash mobs isn’t wasted (though there are usually faster ways to progress, so I don’t fight every single enemy I come across).  Every chest that you open gives you progress toward raising your "adventure rank," which determines how high you can raise the level cap. The open world is fun to spend time in, and it always feels like you are making progress.
In fact, exploring the open world is so much fun that it's easy to forget that there's actually a main questline, though the questline is actually quite enjoyable. (And, unlike BotW, that main questline actually involves a large amount of story where you meet and talk to different characters, like you would in most open-world fantasy games!)  There's voice acting and cutscenes and an interesting story that explores the different cultures in this world, including an interesting contrast between one vaguely-western European region where you meet characters with names like "Jean" and Bennet" and "Noelle," and a China analog where the characters have names like "Chongyun" and "Ningguang” and "Xingqiu" (who you can see pictured below).
Tumblr media
The cultural influences aren’t merely aesthetic (though they are definitely reflected in the fashion and architecture of these two regions).
Tumblr media
There are also “character” story quests where you will, for example, meet a character who is a book nerd and help him track down a volume of a novel he’s been trying to find. In the process of helping the book geek, you will meet with the merchants guild to engage in financial speculation and market manipulation, and also there are some combat sequences where you get to play with the book nerd character and find out that he’s also pretty good with a sword and water magic, and hey, if you’d like him to be a permanent part of your team, maybe you could consider spending some money on the gacha slot machine for a chance of getting him?
(By the way, if all of that sounds like a bit much just to help some kid track down a novel, it should be noted that this game is set in a time where books are quite a prized commodity: there’s also a story set in the game’s “vaguely western European” region that involves helping a librarian character track down overdue library books, and I don’t think it’s spoiling anything to tell you that part of this quest involves entering a dungeon and fighting a bunch of enemies.)
These “character stories” do feel like a pretty obvious way to get you to care about and “try out” characters that are locked behind the paywall, but I’m glad they’re there, as they are easily the most endearing part of the game’s story. I’ve been content with my main squad of 5-ish main characters without the need to dig into the game’s roster of ~25 characters (with more to surely be added with each update).
There’s a finite amount of content, in the sense that eventually, you will explore all of the open world and uncover all of the secrets, and do all of the main questline and all the character sidequests and whatnot.  (The game does have some repeatable and “daily” content...but we’ll get to that later.) The game’s open world and story seems to represent about 60 hours of content, from my own estimates (and estimates I’ve seen by others), and it is worth noting that more content is on the way: the game currently has 2 regions, but the map (and the game’s lore) has room for a total of 7 regions, and of course I’m sure that more characters (and accompanying side stories) are on the way, since getting you to pull for new characters is how the game makes money.
I enjoyed my time with that game very much, and will probably be coming back every time there’s a major update that adds a new region.  It’s also worth mentioning that while some of the activities in the open world are one-time puzzles, there are many chests throughout the world that do respawn every few days, so there is still stuff to do if you want to keep exploring the open world even after you’ve cleared everything.
All of what I’ve described above could be a regular AAA game that I’d be perfectly content to spend $60 on (and, as it just so happens, I have spent approximately that amount of money on it, because I wanted to recruit the mischievous bard archer whose ultimate ability is to summon tornadoes, and the chuuni thunder princess whose ultimate lets you fly around as an electro-charged raven and zap everything. I don’t regret that purchase.)
Tumblr media
This leads into the “second game” that is Genshin Impact.
One of the main “rewards” for exploring the open world of Genshin Impact (as well as doing the main questline and the side quests) is that nearly everything you do (including opening random chests in the overworld) gives you experience toward raising your “adventure rank.” Adventure rank 1-20 is when you are mainly progressing to unlock the game’s features.  This is done pretty well, for the most part: tying various features to the game’s progression system ensures that you’re not inundated with too much stuff to do right out of the gate, and it gives you an incentive to keep progressing the main quest to continue advancing your adventure rank.
The final “feature” that the game unlocks for you at adventure rank 20 is that you now have the ability to ascend the game’s “world level.”  At adventure rank 20, you ascend from “world level 0″ to “world level 1.”  (From this point on, every 5 adventure rank you gain allows you to raise the “world level” again: at adventure rank 25, you hit world level 2, at adventure rank 30, you hit world level 3, and so on.)
This is where you encounter the second game within Genshin Impact, which is a game that is basically about watching numbers go up.
You explore the open world and do quests to raise your adventure rank, which lets you raise the world level.  Raising the world level raises the level cap for all of your characters.  Raising the world level also makes all of the enemies stronger, but this is good because it means they drop better materials, which you need in order to ascend your characters to hit the new level cap.  This becomes the main “gameplay loop” of Genshin Impact: you want to raise your adventure rank, so that you can become stronger and so that the enemies become stronger so that you can become stronger faster.
This is where the complaints about the “stamina” system come in.  You see, the part of Genshin Impact that is just about watching the numbers go up is all tied to your adventure rank, and the open world has an essentially finite amount of adventure exp.  Early on, your adventure rank grows quickly because the story quests and sidequests give you generous amounts of adventure exp, but eventually the main soure of renewable adventure exp becomes tied to daily quests and the game’s energy system.
The game is filled with overworld bosses, short dungeons, and “leylines” (which are basically random points on the open world where you can spawn and fight through waves of enemies).  You can do these as much as you want, but they only give adventure exp (and other rewards) if you spend energy, which you get a finite amount of every day.  You get 180 energy per day, and each activity costs 20-40 energy.  (Also, energy constantly regenerates and you can only store 120 energy at a time, so if you don’t want to “waste” energy by hitting the cap, it means you have to log in multiple times per day to spend it.)
This means that, at a certain point, your “adventure rank” progress is gated by energy/dailies. (For me, this happened at around adventure rank 30.) Of course, you can spend money to get extra energy. This is what has a lot of players upset. (The game’s energy system is called “resin,” and doing a google search for ‘genshin impact resin’ or simply pulling up the Genshin Impact subreddit will probably turn up pages of such complaints, if you’re interested in reading such things.)
The thing is, the “energy system” doesn’t really impede your ability to explore the open world, which is where this game is really at it’s best.  In fact, there are people who have gone through the entire world and found all of hundreds of hidden orbs even before ascending to world level 1.
When I say that Genshin Impact eventually becomes a game about watching the numbers go up, I mean that quite literally: at world level 3, I am fighting the exact same enemies that I was at world level 1; they just have bigger numbers over their heads.  I am using the same characters and abilities and doing all of the same activities, but now instead of killing level 18 goblin archers to collect “firm arrowheads,” I’m killing level 45 goblin archers to get “sharp arrowheads.” The difference between these two items is that “firm arrowheads” are required to ascend my archer up to level 40, while “sharp arrowheads” are required to ascend my archer up to level 60.  Eventually, I’ll graduate to fighting even higher levels of goblin archers to get “weathered arrowheads,” which will let me ascend my archer up to level 80.
It is worth noting that the game’s “loop” of watching the numbers go up is quite satisfying: while it is easy to describe the game in a reductive way that makes it feel dumb and arbitrary, I’ll admit that once I graduated from fighting level 35 slimes (who only drop “slime condensate”) to fighting level 40 slimes (who were then able to drop “slime secretions”), and then used those “slime secretions” to upgrade my my wind archer’s attacks to do more damage, it felt good.
Whether it’s leveling your characters, ascending your characters, leveling your weapons, ascending your weapons, level up each of your character’s individual talents, leveling each of their individual pieces of equipment...it just feels good to make the numbers go up, and to keep making the numbers go up, you have to raise the world level to make the enemies stronger.  Every milestone feels like a significant achievement, and it’s great at giving you the constant feeling that you get when you “prestige” in a game like Call of Duty: the game ratchets up in difficulty, and you once again get to go through the process of grinding your characters up until you slowly accomplish the task of once again hitting the new level cap.
And so I absolutely understand the frustration that a lot of players hit once the “the wall” where only way to keep making the numbers go up is to sign in every day to do their dailies and spend their energy, or spend money to get more energy.  I myself was a bit annoyed, and even spent a couple dollars’ worth of the game’s premium currency so that I could gain more adventure exp to make the number go up faster.
But I quickly realized, “No matter what my adventure rank is, I’m still fighting the same goblins, slimes, wizards, and electro cubes that I was fighting 10 hours ago.” Even if my progress is being arbitrarily gated by an energy system, on a moment-to-moment basis, the gameplay is pretty much the same.
And at that point, I basically abandoned the game within Genshin Impact that is “make the numbers go up,” and went back to playing the thing that made me enjoy Genshin Impact, which is the game of “wander around in the open world, look for activities to do, collect all the orbs, open all the chests, and fight the various enemies that I fight along the way.” Doing this still makes the numbers go up, just more slowly than if I was spending energy on all of the game’s repeatable content.  And that game continues to be quite fun.  Eventually I’ll run out of things to do, and at that point I will probably put down Genshin Impact until the next region comes out and gives me another few dozen hours of open-world content to explore.
Most people I’ve seen recommend Genshin Impact do so with the caveat that before you go in, you should be aware of the gacha system so you don’t spend too much money, and maybe stay away if you lack the self control to avoid dumping too much money into it.  In my case, the money I’ve lost to gacha games has always paled in comparison to the amount of time and mental energy I’ve lost to playing any game that has “dailies” that make me feel obligated to sign in once a day (or more than once a day) so I’m not “wasting” a resource that the game is giving me for “free.”
Now that I’ve resigned myself to not particularly caring about the numbers in Genshin Impact, it’s not such a big problem for me, but if you are the kind of person who is going to lose a ton of mental bandwidth to any game that has “dailies” or an energy system, be aware that Genshin Impact is one of those.  Also be aware that playing the game at higher “World Ranks” is pretty much the same experience as playing it at World Rank 1 in terms of the enemies you fight against and the abilities that you use, and if you’re able to cross that mental hurdle (like I eventually did), you can loop around to not really caring too much about the game’s energy system (which prevents you from getting frustrated by having your progress, but perhaps more critically saves you from feeling like you need to log in every day for fear of “wasting” energy).

Genshin Impact character opinions (alphabetical)-
Tumblr media
0/10 Albedo is my least favorite design... He looks so fuckin goofy and from what I know about his character the fact he looks so goofy is not great.... The shorts look so dumb and the blue of his shirt looks weird...
Tumblr media
Just wanted to visualize my issues with his goofy outfit... wont be ‘fixing’ anyone elses.
Tumblr media
10/10 So fucking cute. The colors are beautiful and well spread through the design, Zettai ryōiki. bunny theme...terrific. Ambers just perfect. Look at that fucking adorable face as well... look at her big ol smile and tell me she aint a 10/10. She’d get a 10 if all I ever saw was that big ol smile.
Tumblr media
9/10 Barbara is adorable. Her costume is gorgeous. I love the white with blue and the gold accents. Very pretty my only gripe is the lighter blue on her bow...
Tumblr media
10/10 Beidou is just gorgeous.... I love that shade of pinkish-red with the off-black and purple with the gold trim. Shes just so hot... also her English voice is also top tier which is irrelevant to my ranking... maybe but--
Tumblr media
1/10 Bennetts not as bad as Albedo but god hes annoying to look at... and listen to....  he looks like hes a Kingdom Hearts knock off, the colors are weird, and he has the personality of s1 Ash Ketchum.... Im sure hes a swell lad... but
Tumblr media
6/10 Chongyun I mean I love the color pallet and over all its fine. I think the onesie with the cropped jacket and the weird half robe is weird but it looks fine if I dont think about too much.
Tumblr media
7/10 Diluc is pretty but not as fun to look at as some others. I do really like those red palm gloves. My biggest gripe is his shirt.... with the belt? WHAT? Sir do you know what a belt is for.....
Tumblr media
8/10 Diona... so cute. I kinda just wish her hair wasnt pink. I dont like the pink in her design at all but other than that... super cute. I just noticed her gloves had little peets on them.... THATS SO CUTE.
Tumblr media
4/10 Fischls color pallet (other than her hair) is gorgeous but other than that... hate the overall design... Im not opposed to sexiness... but come on....
Tumblr media
7/10 Ganyu is very cute but idk whats going on with her outfit at all.... its a very confusing piece.... but I dont hate it...
Tumblr media
7/10 Whoops forgot the new girl... Her designs cute... but it is a bit dampened by the fact I think about toilet boy Hanako.... but other than that very cute!
Tumblr media
9/10 Jeans a hottie. Love her tight pants... is it too much to ask for more hot girls in tight pants? IS THAT SO WRONG?! I dont really like the weird open top bit or the red bits but I dont hate it either.
Tumblr media
10/10 Kaeyas design is one of my favs. His color pallet is gorgeous, the design is cool, tasteful tiddie window... its great. Good for him. I’ll even excuse the spiked fingerless gloves which no other character could possibly pull off.
Tumblr media
10/10 Keqing is gorgeous too. Again with the beautiful colors, a really charming outfit design combined with those little cat-ear buns. I do often see up her skirt when flying and climbing however and it makes me feel like a bad person LMAO IM SORRY KEQING!! I DONT MEAN IT. She seems like the type thatd be really embarrassed about it!!
Tumblr media
10/10 Klee is so fucking cute. I kinda wish her eyes were green like her charm but the red is good too. That red and white with the warm brown is really nice, and you cant go wrong with a poofy hat! Shes so cute.
Tumblr media
10/10 Lisa was designed to be a smoke show but she pulls it off better than Fischl. Love the roses throughout her design, the color pallet is on point, her hair matching the dull gold of the accents is really nice, a peak of Zettai ryōiki and her green eyes just POP. Shes beautiful.... I love her.
Tumblr media
3/10 My issue with Mona is mostly her bottom half... I get that her tights design looks cool but with the rest of her vibe having her main clothing piece be like... a bathing suit? ITS A CHOICE and it ruins her design for me. Also I hate the baubles on the ends of her hair.... but her color pallet is real nice. I also like her bigger eyebrows...
Tumblr media
10/10 Ningguang... also a total smokin hottie. Her colors are beautiful and really feel RICH. That brassy color and gold on white with the ginkgo designs... the bitch is just poppin. She looks fantastic.
Tumblr media
8/10 Noelle is so cute... I like when I add her to my party and she gets all excited and eager to help... very cute. Her design is an endearing mix of badass knight and dutiful maid.... my only issue is her skirt.... looks kinda weird. Wish she had some petticoats to fill it out more. Also dont like that her roses pop out the way they do... reminds me of Shreks ears....
Tumblr media
10/10 Qiqi is adorable I love Jiangshi, love the colors, wish she wasnt wearin horni thigh highs(I only ever see thigh highs squeeze thighs like that in l00d art dont come for me... I didnt design her.) but lolis gonna lol. But again her design is top tier. Shes so cute.
Tumblr media
5/10 Razor... is kind of a mess but its largely the colors.... its a lot of weird colors. Also his design makes me think of the male MC... I literally thought he was like an AU version of the MC....
Tumblr media
10/10 Sucrose is so cute. Again that white blue and gold look great... I like her frilly shorts and thigh highs.... her boots are cute... her hair color is a little weird but I dont dislike it. Kinda wish her eyes were a different color tho.
Tumblr media
4/10 Childe is fine... but after seeing all the other Fatui designs and his own monster form I look at him like this and go.... REALLY? Thats what were goin with... alright... Also his whole design screams ‘fire’ to me not just colors either the shape of his mask and the pattern on his scarf thing.... its weird that hes Hydro.
Tumblr media
10/10 I love the female MCs design... I chose the male MC because his colors popped more and im a dumb animal and was like ‘ooh shiny‘ but I think her design is a bit better over all...
Tumblr media
9/10 Male MC is still good... its very cute. I like how she looks more suited to the Anemo and he looks more Geo... Thats pretty cool. I really like his colors... the browns/gold/white... its a striking look.
Tumblr media
6/10 Ventis pretty cute... I dont get the weird... corset thing hes wearing, dont like his shoes,,, but other than that its pretty cute but nothing special imo.
Tumblr media
10/10 Xiangling is so fucking cute. everything in her design makes me clutch my heart at how endearing she is. Love her. Weird color palette... its even weirder that it fully works.
Tumblr media
7/10 Look I love Xiao hes a good lad so I cant be too harsh... but all the colors on his design look a bit weird which really brings his over all design down... which I think is cool over all.
Tumblr media
9/10 Really cute design for Xingqiu! The colors are beautiful... I love blue and white and gold obviously and he even does it with more of an emphasis on the blue and its a greenish blue and it looks great. the top is just gorgeous, those frilly sleeves are super cute... not a huge fan of the shorts but I hear theyre comfy and easy to wear.
Tumblr media
10/10 Xinyan just looks terrific. Cool and punky, great fiery color pallet, cool theme, cheeky personality without it being obnoxious....  Shes great! Weird voice tho... lmao
Tumblr media
11/10 You cant tell me what to do! Zhongli is the only male smoke show in the playable cast for that he gets an 11 ok? I love a dumb old man. I do think the coat over his longer coat is a bit weird but I aint mad at it. Love the colors, very earthy, the subtle gold design on his pant legs are cool and really hes got a lot of cool bits on his coat, his face/hair are lovely. Hes a total babe.

Hello Self Ship Community!
So, since I’ve realized just how much it can help to have a little personalized message from any of your f/os, I’ve decided to begin taking cosplay requests! How I believe this is gonna work would be you can send me one of your f/os that I cosplay and the next time I’m in that cosplay, I can make you a little personalized message! However, since it is just going to be when I naturally get into that cosplay again, combined with the fact that I have work and other obligations, I may not get it done super fast, but I will get it done when I can!
More information under the cut!
If you happen to be interested, please send me an ask with the following:
the name of the f/o
their relationship to you (romantic, platonic, familial, ect)

Fundamental Game Design Problems with Genshin Impact
I’ve been playing Genshin Impact since its launch, and I’ve had some sort of a love-hate relationship with it. On one hand, I love the world, the characters, the story, and how it feels so carefree and beautiful. On the other hand, I really hate its leveling system, its gacha system, and the time-reward ratio of its activities.
I find that there are quite a few issues in Genshin Impact that just doesn’t make sense from a game design perspective. These issues make the player want to play less, or avoid features in the game that should not be avoided, and instead should be encouraged to explore. Coincidentally, the very same game design issues do encourage players to spend real money on the game, so I guess that’s the crux of the issue.
Issue 1: The Resin System
If you play Genshin Impact, we all saw this issue coming, didn’t we?
Resin is basically the stamina/energy that you would know in other gacha games. The problem is that there’s just too little resin, which leads to almost every other problem that I’m going to talk about later.
In short, there’s just too little resin given to the player. The amount of time to recover resin is just too long for the amount of rewards given in exchange.
In Genshin Impact, you can spend resin on ley lines (random fights in the open world that give either character experience or money), domains (instanced fights that give you artifact equipment, or weapon ascension materials), and open world bosses (gives you character ascension materials). Nothing wrong with that, so far so good.
What if I told you that you need to spend approximately 5 hours worth of resin in order to get the rewards from a world boss, and that boss might not even drop the material? Just this past week alone, I spent about 5 days worth of resin on just one boss and nothing else, and I came out with no high tier materials at all. On the bright side, the game does allow you to combine lower tier materials into higher tier materials. This still doesn’t sound too bad... but read on to issue 2 and 3 to see why this becomes a problem that snowballs.
Another strange point is that the weekly quests require you to spend more resin than you can recover. This pretty much means that you must spend real money in order to complete the quest. Totally broken.
Issue 2: The World Level System
In Genshin Impact, there is something called a “World Level”. This determines the level of the monsters in the world, which in turn determines the quality of the loot that they drop.
The problem is, the world level increases as your adventure rank increases. Your adventure rank increases when you do pretty much anything in the game. Completing quests, opening chests, completing domains, defeating bosses, and completing ley lines all give you adventure rank experience.
This means that you will be kept on your toes, and you cannot afford to spend your resin on things you do not need. God forbid that you end up with a high world level with weak characters. You’re pretty much dead if that happens.
I’ve not found myself in such a situation yet, and I have no idea if it’s possible to break out of such an impasse. Too weak to farm materials, and no way to get around that. Big oof.
It’s strange, because this is such a chill and calming game, but the system behind it is anything but.
Ever since I hit adventure rank 30, I’ve avoided doing any random quests that I come across in the open world (game design problem: your players are avoiding quests). I simply do not want to level up! I’m scared of leveling up (game design problem: your players do not want to level up).
Now, why does this happen? The resin system! The player is just not able to farm enough to become strong enough to handle a higher world level.
There is a minor breather for this though. Every 10 adventure rank levels starting at level 25, there’s a trial that you have to pass before the world level will go up. This gives the you an infinite amount of time to catch up and farm whatever you want, and the world level will not go up. However, you will still earn adventure rank experience, which will all be added once you’ve passed the trial. I skipped level 26-30 this way and jumped two world levels because of this. Luckily, I was prepared enough to handle it.
You might think that this trial is there to counter this problem of being too weak in the world level you’re in. Nope. The boss (electro hypostasis) in the trial is one of the easiest bosses in the game due to a lack of an enrage timer (DPS check) and it has very obvious attacks that are easily dodged. So... it doesn’t gatekeep anything.
Issue 3: The Leveling System
In Genshin Impact, your characters level up using character experience cards. These cards are dropped from chests, and are given as rewards from quests or ley lines.
In Genshin Impact, you also control a squad of four characters at a time, and elemental reactions and elemental advantages are a big part of the combat system. So, you aren’t just going to be able to get away with training one character, and I’d say that you would need about 6 characters to cover all your bases.
I’ve personally leveled up two characters to 70, one to 60, two to 50, and one to 40. And I’m all out of character experience cards.
The problem? The resin system! Your main source of character experience cards in the late game would be from ley lines, and this requires resin if you want to gain rewards from it. But wait! I also need resin to farm weapon ascension materials and character ascension materials! Well, too bad. Welcome to Genshin Impact.
The fundamental game design issue from this is that it prevents the player from experimentation. You would think, “Hmm, what would character X be like if I used her in this squad? Oh wait, I don’t have the resources to level her up anyway”. You might think that’s fine, because you might think that you could just go farm some resources to level this character up and try her out. But remember issue 2? Your world level might go up while you’re doing this, which will make all content more difficult to clear. Is there really time for experimentation? What if the character doesn’t work out? Then your main squad hasn’t gained any strength while the world level went up. I guess you’re dead.
I’m not even excited about getting new characters anymore, because I know that all they’ll do is sit in my roster at level 1, and the only time they’ll ever get used is when I send them off to collect materials on expeditions. I have a Venti doing just that. Will I ever be able to train him? Ha! Who knows? Maybe when I’m stuck at adventure rank 45.
So from the start of the game, you have to pick your squad, maybe you’re allowed to deviate and level up two new characters on top of your main four, and that’s it. You got to lock that squad in and never use any other character ever again because you just can’t afford to.
Wut.
Issue 4: The Gacha Rates
In Genshin Impact, the highest rarity (5 star) comes at a 0.6% rate. Compared to other popular gacha games which come in at around 1-2%, the difference is huge.
To me, this alone is already an issue from a design perspective. When it’s too low, it can get people frustrated enough to quit the game (I was planning to, until the last roll I could afford gave me Klee). The amount of money the whales are spending just to get a single character or weapon can easily go into the hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Another problem that arises from the poor rates is you start to lack important archetypes in your squad. For a long time I lacked a heavy-hitting claymore user (this is important to break shields and rocks), and I also lacked someone good against frost enemies. So I spent all my free gems (six 10 rolls, worth US$180) and finally got Klee, a fire bomb user. The game does give a free claymore user, but I don’t have the resources to train another character (see, resin raises its ugly head again). The game also does give a good free fire character, but she isn’t fiery enough to fight a whole domain of frost enemies.
If Genshin Impact wants to keep its gacha rates low, fine by me. But the game needs to give all players a complete and well-rounded set of characters that can cover all bases. Every element needs to be countered, a healer is needed, and a shield-breaker is needed. And this set of characters need to do the job well. Having complete jokes of a character like Amber is not going to help. Having a difficult to understand/build character like Noelle is not going to help.
-----
I do like this game, and I do want to keep playing it. But sometimes I wonder if I should wait a little and let Mihoyo fix the game before I start playing again.
