Oh boy. Day 7 of the Total Drama Fanfic recs. With the prompt being "overall favorite".

I uh. i couldn't pick. Sorry!

It's a tie! It's a three-way tie!

The first i'll mention is obvious if you've been following me for a while, but Amicus Curiae (by @courtney-deserved-better) is fucking AWESOME YOU GUYS. It's a Ridonculous Race rewrite that replaces both Carrie and Devin with a team of Alejandro and Courtney. Most of the fic is focused on friendships, specifically the ones that formed between this new Best Friends team, the Reality TV Pros and the Sisters. It also includes alenoah AND is the only long form fic im aware of that features Courtemma as a major pairing. It recently ended too, so every chapter is up right now! please go read it! aaa!

The second is a more recent (and for now unfinished) fic - Lovers and Fools by @henke-penke is an Alenoaheather World Tour AU based on an AU constructed by two of my mutuals over the course of multiple reblog chains (of which i've reblogged the majority of). The TLDR of it is Alejandro and Heather going to Noah individually to fake a relationship to make the other jealous. It escalates, let's just say. Henke-penke's writing is awesome in general, please go check it out!!!

Finally, and this is sort of a cheat, but i nominate both the fic Inescapable and the AU it takes place in (written by @fluidfox) are fucking awesome. It takes place post canon and while the fics in the AU generally follow the TD cast after All-Stars, Inescapable itself mostly focuses on Noah, his friendships with team escope and his relationship with Alejandro after he reconnects with him. Let's just say, this is the fic that got me to ship alenoah. The next two fics are respectivally an Evzy fic and a Duntrent oneshot and are also awesome, but that first one will always be my favorite of them <3

a mouth full of teeth and nothing to sing by @cal-daisies-and-briars A HEN CENTRIC FIC!!!!! I'm living. Post 07x03, Hen struggles to process the cruise ship rescue and drunk driver call in the midst of ongoing tension with her friends. In which Hen gets the apologies she deserves and gets to vent her frustrations, whilst also self examining her own actions. Fantastic crunchy characterisation.

time will tell by @bekkachaos '5 times Hen and Karen suspect Buck might not be one hundred percent straight, and 1 time they realise they were so damn right. aka., Henren knows and they occasionally speculate about Buck, and Eddie, and now, Tommy.' For everyone absolutely thriving over that reaction in 7x06.

Better Late Than Never by @pop-me soft semi-somnophilic sapphic henren married vibes which I ADORED. Pillow princess Karen, as she deserves. A gorgeous little slice of life domestic scene that was truly so loving and sexy, loved it.

and my heart and my hat by Anonymous (who are you mysterious author, I love your Tommy voice SO MUCH!) This was such a great Tommy POV from 7x03-7x04, charting his feelings from the moment Chim calls him to ask for his help with the cruise ship search, through to the kiss. I really enjoyed the whole ensemble camaraderie of this fic, Tommy's perspective on Hen, as well as the lovely moments where we see all the ways Buck just being Buck is charming to Tommy. So enjoyable.

raspberry. by @buckttommy good lord...hot!!!!! Buck, Tommy, a gay club, a handsome stranger, exhibitionism and some exploratory D/S vibes. This was just *fans self* super sensuous and unabashedly queer, I loved it.

And if you threw a party, and invited everyone you knew by @pantsaretherealheroes In which 'Eddie wakes up the morning after Maddie and Chimney’s wedding with a hangover, and unexpected bed-mate, has a panic attack and a hell of a realisation. Josh makes coffee. They talk.' This is ultimately a buddie fic, but with some glorious supportive Josh along the way, with just the right amount of cattiness too. I just really loved this dynamic and odd couple vibe.

are we still friends? can we be friends? by @pantsaretherealheroes ok how about that, but instead Buck and Josh genuinely have a casual dating set up and all sorts of fun together, mutually agreeing to keep each other in the loop if it stops being what they want. Meanwhile Eddie is PINING, and Maddie is feeling some kind of way about it all. I just really enjoyed the maturity of the dating within these parameters, and the complicated feelings along the way.

treat your mouth as if it's heaven's gate by @bucktheally this is the fourth part in an bucktommy alternative meeting bright as the morning, soft as the rain series in which Tommy was never part of the 118, but can also be read standalone. Look this instalment of the fic got me totally enchanted the moment that Buck set himself up with his laptop 'intent on Wikipedia’ing himself into the queer community in-between naps.' Perfect characterisation. No notes. The fic is sexy, sweet, and I love the development of their relationship set up from this initial premise. Buck just loves to learn!

Won't Be Long Before I Belong by @justaswampdemon a post madney wedding coda fic in which Buck accidentally comes out via soot and Tommy meets everyone. Sweet, tender, gentle and caring.

I had no idea there was a @totaldramaficrecweek until just now. To anyone who wants more recs, here's what I suggest for days 1 through 4.

Day 1 (15 July): Favourite Canon Divergence

Favorite by AyaWilliams, an Aletyler and Heatherra rewrite of TDI. I loved seeing how these two relationships could've developed in that season and I thought both were handled very well. I also liked Heather and Noah's alliance. Not to spoil anything, but I also loved the 'Mr. Coconut' equivalent AyaWilliams made for the fic and I thought it was very in character.

I also really enjoyed Slippery Slopes by courtney-deserved-better just like a whole lot of other TD fans. I'm happy it inspired many other people to make Alenoah fanworks. I even wrote about it on Fanlore along with the ship itself, both of which were super fun to make. I really liked how the fic explored Noah's family and how that's been carried over to other fics, since canon gives us so little information.

Day 2 (16 July): Favourite Canon Compliant Fic

7 Minutes in Heaven (It Feels Like 70) by elsleaze, a Tyzeke Playa Des Losers 7 Minutes in Heaven AU. Does this count as canon compliant? Probably not, but I wanted to share this one. It was interesting seeing all the eliminated characters up to Sadie interact with one another, and the actual kissing scene with Tyler and Ezekiel felt very natural. It's a very cozy fic with the steamy moments in the 7 Minutes closet, and it got me to like Ezekiel more.

New Beginnings by CerendaRoth, a Nowen AU that takes place from Greece's Pieces until Owen is eliminated during Niagara Brawls. Not exactly canon compliant, again, but I wanted to share this one. I love how Owen's thoughts in a Nowen AU were explored. It has a great sense of soul, and Team-Escope was great!

Day 3 (17 July): Favourite Alternate Universe - No Total Drama

The Perfect Resolution by Brick_bronze165, a High School AU Aletyler fic written for new years 2024. This is my go-to comfort fic. Alejandro and Tyler's relationship develops naturally and I love all the scenes in this fic, each one shows the stage of their relationship very well. They also have good characterizations, though Tyler's is stronger overall.

i don't hate you, i'm just passing the time by jasmine_sea, a High School AU Alenoah fic written for Alenoah Week 2024. This one is genuinely very well written and may be one of my top 10 favorite fics I've ever read. Seriously. Both Alejandro and Noah are characterized very well and I love the side characters. Their relationship develops naturally and it has amazing scenes. It has a great sense of groundedness, if that makes sense, and the world the characters live in is very believable without being boring.

Day 4 (18 July): Favourite Short Fic (Under 2k)

Solace by AyaWilliams, an Alecody fic where Alejandro hides Cody from Sierra when she tried to make him drink that love tea. I liked the imagery of Alejandro basically cuddling Cody under a table.

Ugly Doll by natalynsie, a solid Heather & Leshawna interaction fic that takes place just after Heather's head is shaved by Chef, but it's not all completely off yet. A very good take on both characters, and this fic also has a lot of soul to it. I once shaved my head so I related a little to Heather's pain here, even if I did it completely on my own terms.

Ok Total Drama Fic Rec Week day 2!

The prompt this time is Favorite Canon Compliant fic! Aside from the fact i did technically write a canon compliant fic a while back, i do actually have multiple recommendations this time!

First of all, the fic Being Smart + Knowing Things is awesome. It's a Leshawna + Lindsay friendship fic that takes place during World Tour after both girls are eliminated. They discuss their respective times on the show and it's sweet!

Second of all, the fic Too Much Blush is one of my favorite jomaria one-shots. In general i like how Brookiidookiii writes jomaria, their dynamic is cute!

Finally i could've picked from a bunch of mkulia fics that were written while the second season of the reboot was getting leaked, but i've settled on just below the stitching as i like how MK's plush unicorn Theodore is plot relevant in it :)

Total Drama Fic Rec Week day 3 that i definitely did not nearly forget!

The prompt this time is Alternate Universe - No Total Drama and oh BOY i had material for this. And not just because i've written one, either.

Ok i have four different reqs this time!!! First of all, shouting out one of the more underrated fics Courtney-Deserved-Better wrote, I Rather Like Having Friends. It's a highschool au centered on the dynamic between most of the roti cast and courtney, which features a bunch of rare friendships that i find very neat actually! they bake cookies and play Just Dance and it's sweet :p

Next up, against all odds! It's a Lindsay-Noah friendship fic where the latter tutors the former in maths and they become friends over the course of the fic! It's just really sweet, and actually explores Lindsay's character which i always like. (this is also where i got the "Lindsay has face blindness" Headcanon from, btw)

Now i've already talked about how much i loved the next two; A New Kind of Design is a lesheather college au that mostly focuses on Action dynamics and also Duncan is there and not a terrible presence for once. I like how Heather and Leshawna are written in it. We need more content with dynamics from Action in this fandom man

Terrible taste in nerds and video games is an alenoah fic with hbombs friendship as both a relevant friendship and important characters. Basically, Heather gets Alejandro to play the game Harold's been developping - a parody of Stardew Valley - to get Alejandro to stop moping about his brother bothering him. It works a little too well. I adore how much of a loser Alejandro is in it, and in general i like all the friendships present!

Another day, another Total Drama Fic rec!

The prompt for Day 6 is Favorite Romance, and it turns out that it's kind of hard for me to pick since i assume the focus needs to be solely or mostly on the romantic relationship, and it turns out the majority of the fics i love with ships in them also feature. friendships. big shock for the aromantic person to like friendship in their fanfiction.

Also i cannot stop myself and two of the fics i'll recommend today were written by the same person oops

SO. FIRST ONE. Fake It ‘Til You Make Out is a Fake Dating AU fic involving jomaria, except that they're exes on top of that; Jo needs a date for her cousin's wedding, and she's resorted to asking Anne Maria for help. Romcom schenanigans insue.

The second fic from apocryphalknight is Wannabe Romantic, a scike one-shot. Scott makes Mike and himself a spaghetti dinner for Valentines Day. I like how it's written!

Finally i uh, i have no clue if this counts for the theme, but it is focused on a romantic relationship! Kind of! What a Wipeout! is a heathette Meet-Ugly, No TD au fic where Bridgette smacks Heather with her surfboard upon first meeting. it's really neat and you should read it.

Total Drama Fic Rec Week day 5 time!

So, funny story about today. I may or may not have already recommended most of my favorite gen fics yesterday since more are under 2k words. oops.

So! i only have three recs this time!

First is the fic What is this Feeling? that focuses on Priya and Caleb's relationship in a not romantic context, which i am a big fan of. it also involves aroace Caleb which is one of my favorite headcanons, and the fic is generally sweet :p

Next is Devil Doesn't Bargain which is focused on Emma and Bowie reconnecting as friends post season 1 of the reboot, with Bowie helping Emma with her absolute garbage fire relationship with Chase post break-up. We need more of their friendship man :(

Finally is the first unfinished fic im recommending, Cracked Mirror. There's only two chapters out and it takes place during World Tour. it bounces from multiple different perspectives, but mostly centers on Noah, Gwen and Alejandro during the second chapter. Also all three are trans in some way, which is the main thing explored in the fic (well Alejandro hasn't realised it yet, but the author confirmed this was what they were going for). I just had to shout it out for being like the only work i've seen with a non binary Alejandro? also Gwen's enby and i think the way it's handled is awesome. Maybe this shoutout will lead to the fic getting an update? who knows!

Total Drama Fic Rec Week day 4 that im doing now so i don't forget!

Today's prompt is Favorite short fic (< 2000 words), and OH BOY DO I HAVE RECS!!!

I could've picked any fic included in the All-Stars: Behind the Scenes series since they're all oneshots under 2000 words, but i picked the Ex-Fangirl and the Ex-Con since it's a Sierra character exploration and i love those :p also Duncan is there and doesn't suck so bonus points for that 👍

Next, i'd recommend the fic Fairytales (to tell yourself), which is a pre-series character exploration of Ella and GOD i love it. We need more of this. I really like the specific take on Ella of her playing the princess character as a form of escapism or in this fic's case, a metaphor on the attitude she adopted to fit in. I want to give her a hug in this fic so badly

Here's another Pahkitew fic, a really short one called It Should've Been, an exploration of Jasmine's feelings on Sammy's elimination after A Blast from the Past, featuring Scarlett at the very end. It's pretty dang good!

Im super happy this one fits under this criteria, I wanna be your girlfriend is one of two heatheva fics on ao3 and definitely the one i like more! Basically, Heather includes Eva in her alliance arrangement as a sort of fake girlfriend. Neat idea, and im very glad to see one of my rarepairs getting a fic :D

Speaking of rarepairs i like, Concern is a justowen fic that takes place during action, and also includes Lindsay as a major character. I like how both Justin and Lindsay are written in it!

FINALLY (god this post is getting long), Drop the (Killer) Bass is a fic in @henke-penke's rewrite of Island which involves a friendship forming between their rewritten Sadie and Harold. It's really sweet, in general it convinced me Sadie and Katie would love rave music :p

Ok so i am actually doing that Total Drama Fic Rec Week thing, mostly because it gives me an excuse to just gush about my favorite fics!!

So today's Prompt is Canon Divergence. You'd think it would be easy for me to come up with a ton of examples for it. Turns out there's only a couple i really like that aren't also just blatant rewrites XD

With that said i've come up with one! I've already recommended Temporary Permanence before, but i'll do it again! It's a Skylett fic, picking up right after the team switch with a focus on how Sky, Scarlett and surprisingly Dave view attachments all with the competition complicating things. The fic honestly made me understand Sky and Scarlett's characters better and made me like them more, on top of featuring an interesting take on a Dave and Sky friendship. Honestly cannot recommend it enough!
