Reposted from @hungrygirlintoronto - “Ghar Ka Khana” or home cooked food is something which stirs up memories of soul soothing comfort which is pristine in its simplicity or decadent meals resplendent with flavours of our ancestry and culture. . I was tagged by Gayatri @gayatriisingh to upload my version of #gharkakhana , however unfortunately I rarely cook the amount of courses my mom makes daily. Three to four courses is pretty normal and though I used to do that sometimes before my baby was born, cooking multiple courses is something I just don’t have the energy for yet. . But it’s been a lovely few weeks of eating low carb or no carb meals and thus I thought of celebrating Victoria Day with a simple home cooked thaali. It’s really really simple food but it was a nice change from our usual grilled goodies. 🌶Moong Daal with a tempering of asafoetida and fennel seeds - this daal was made exactly with those two ingredients and then just finished off with green chillies and seasoning. 🌶Prawn Curry with nigella seeds - This is one of my favourite recipes and this curry has no onions, garlic or ginger. Yup this is a simple broth made with nigella seeds, tomatoes and just red chilli powder, turmeric and salt. Garnished with slit green chillies and freshly chopped coriander , this is a dream of a curry with hot rice. 🌶Pan Fried Salmon with Indian spices and curry leaves 🌶 Salad and a slice of the gorgeous kaffir lime. . It was a lovely lunch yesterday and I realized this was probably the first time I made multiple courses after my parents left Toronto. Thank you my lovely @gayatriisingh for tagging me❤️.
