Fan httyd dragon species because I can..this is the Whiskerdance. They’re spunky little tracker class dragons with various subspecies to adapt to different continents. This little guy is a part of of the Vicious Whiskerdance variant, and is adapted to live in forested areas.
On their own they don’t look like they pose much of a threat, as they are small, dull colored, and noodley looking. However, these deceiving dragons are the sworn enemy of the slitherwing and one of the few things that can pose a direct threat to them. Initially, their ancestors were prey to the Slitherwing, but overtime certain packs of Whiskerdance with higher tolerance for venom began to fight back and eventually became more and more resistant to its toxic properties until they became immune to it entirely. Now they are fierce predators in their own right and will even go out of their way to hunt their former tormentors in packs.
They are not completely infallible to falling victim to their life long enemies, but they win enough fights that the slitherwing will often think twice before picking a fight with this dragon. Due to how wary the slitherwing is of the Whiskerdance, a symbiotic relationship has started to form between the Deathsong and Whiskerdance. The Deathsong allow packs of Whiskerdance to come close to it and share its territory in exchange for protection against Slitherwing in the area.
They are..incredibly hard to train due to their aggressive nature and “fight first, ask questions later” personality, but it can be done. Once a rider tames a specimen their dragon will then see the rider as a part of their family pack and will treat them accordingly, making them incredibly loyal and reliable dragons. They are also surprisingly affectionate, with hatchlings being known to wrap around Vikings neck like a warm scarf. Adults can also do this as well but..the results aren’t always successful.
