I'll write more into detail but this is basically edd not being strong enough to process the radioactivenes, he does get his powers to an extent but in the process the radioactive material deteriorates his mental health, making him unstable. In fear of losing his friends, He goes on to try to make them just like him so they can stay together, so it's up to tord,matt and tom to try and cure edd without having to resort to killing him.
